  • I'm of two minds.

1). On paper, it definitely sounds like a lot, yet

2). This really wouldn't bother someone who didn't tunnel the same person immediately.

  • This entire update is a big ######### you to solo survivors. Killers definitely needed some TLC, nobody is arguing that, but this update comes at the cost of a big chunk of the casual player base.

And the ironic thing is, the same people who are calling solo survivors "crybabies", or mocking them for losing their "crutch perks", etc. are the ones who have spent the last year crying themselves and using crutch perks.

The devs have made it clear they 100% expect survivors to be in or move toward SWFs at this point.

  • As a solo q player, OTR is going to be a staple in my build if it goes live.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

It seems like survivors are being given quite a few options to acquire haste. This is going to make end game quite rough and I foresee a lot of sweating once there’s only one Gen left.

End game is exactly when there SHOULD be sweating, if there is any at all - not tunneling someone out or 4k slugging at 5 gens, or genrushing from the get-go to cut matches short.

  • I'm a bit nervous as well, but also glad because this is necessary.

This is what happens when players take a survival horror game too seriously and try to make it e-sports. The game has never been more sweaty and unfun than it has been the past year. Couple that with each side trying to basically gut the others' strengths at all times, and here we are.

I hope the entire meta is drastically changed for both roles so that they actually have to use their brains a bit more.

  • I’m not sure how well those will protect you on their own…

It's a universal benefit, not a personal offering. It is meant to be used for everyone not just for yourself. Period.

You can say “period” all you want, it doesn’t make your argument have any weight.

The devs have already implemented time-specific things. If they wanted a freaking bloodpoint offering included in this, they’d do it.

Your temper tantrum that others won’t stack with you thankfully doesn’t dictate game mechanics.

  • @Jaxton2000 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3002180#Comment_3002180

There's no point in not using them, unless you have a plan to use them instead of stacking. There should be a deadline for things to be expired so they get used regardless of what a player thinks. I think the difference between a benefit, and an event item like a flashlight or toolbox etc. Is much different. An offering to be used for bloodpoints for an anniversary/event should be required to be used within the event and expire afterwards because otherwise it's most likely not going to be used because you want it for keeps sake and that's the truth. You have other items to keep as keep sake from this anniversary. I want them to expire.

No. You’re just mad that some people aren’t benefiting you by using theirs, and your argument has no basis.

I’ll use them when I want to, period. It’s not for you to decide what the “point” is.

  • @Jaxton2000 said:

I agree. It's an annoyance to see people brag about not using them.

So be annoyed for a few seconds and then move on? Your annoyance doesn’t justify retiring them completely.

I’ll use them when I want to, not when others want me to.

Not just licensed killers, I have a couple of Wooden Splinter Offerings that let you play as Hag.

Because they are the same people who complain about the grind but only further contribute to it. The cakes wouldn't have to be used until the next cakes arrive.

I never said it only applied to licensed killers, I said their decision was probably based around that. And for the sake of consistency, they retired the offering as a whole.

Flans will last for 2 weeks whether people use them or not. Holding onto any offering/item/add-on/etc does not contribute to the grind. You've already obtained it, and it will appear in a future bloodweb regardless of what you do with it.

  • @agonizing said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3002041#Comment_3002041

You are correct. However, my point is that the cakes were made to be used in conjunction with others as it was intended for celebration of the anniversary event. Even if you are against the cake usage, they should not disappear, but just be held as retired if they really just want to "sit there."

The gist I'm getting in your argument is "I don't have any logical reason for this, I'm just mad people are hoarding cakes/flans 😤"

  • @agonizing said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3002028#Comment_3002028

Incorrect, if you've been playing this game long enough, you will have killer offerings (offering that let you play as a different killer) for the trial. These offerings were retired but still sit in my inventory.

The reason the cakes should be retired is that there are many people who hoard the cakes and never use them for the intended purposes but merely sit on them. You can look at other streamers showing off how many cakes they have from past events some in the hundreds place.

EDIT: misread your statement, I'm sure in that regard there's something surrounding licensed killers and content they had to pay for. Otherwise, I doubt it'd be retired.

Who cares if people hoard any offerings? If they're still functional, they don't need to be retired.

  • No, they shouldn’t. They’re just bloodpoint offerings. The only things that have been retired have been event-specific offerings that change gameplay, or things based around features the devs took out (like the moonlight offerings).

What would be the reason to retire them?

  • Careful, your opinion is very controversial around here lol

What magical time are you waiting for where this will not be the case?

I'll wait as long as I need to. Or if my friends ever decide to hop back on and SWF.

I've been mostly solo since mid 2019, it was never as bad as it's been this year.

  • To be fair, the events themselves are almost never the issue. A lot of good work goes into them.

It's the people playing it lol.

  • This is literally the only way to play as survivor currently. At least, if you want more than 3-4k bloodpoints.

  • With all of the facecamping and tunneling out my solo q games have had all year? Absolutely not.

  • Why do we need any charms? Why do we need perks? Why do we need DBD?

This argument doesn't do what you think it does.

Hopefully I'm misreading your intention, and if so I do apologize in advance. If I did not, then I don't think I have any else to discuss with you.

I guess you're right on all accounts there.

True understanding is a very hard thing to accomplish unless one has actually experienced the same. Nevertheless I don't think true understanding is a requirement for acceptance.

You're also right about my comment on my friend, on retrospective.

The thing I struggle the most with is this tendency of all these communities to compartmentalize themselves. I mean I just don't see the difference. One can be gay, straight, black, white, progressist or retrograde, or whatever, why is it important? Why can't we just get along and love each other, or at the very least tolerate those we simply cannot commune with? I honestly find all this categorization utterly superfluous. If I like someone, then I like them, I don't even factor any of this.

I mean I was just discriminated because I'm straight male, my opinions discarded without a second glance because of this, by people who have very likely experienced discrimination and dismissal for just being "different". By someone who allegedly strives for acceptance yet indulges in rejection.

Yet I can still accept and appreciate this person, understand that they are probably fed up with bigotry and stuff.

Is it so hard? I dunno it just baffles me.

The unfortunate part is, many people other than you hyperfocus on these differences.

You're right in theory that we all aren't so different, but these differences are what have gotten my LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters hurt, or worse, killed. Hence the need to celebrate and encourage these differences.

@KateMain86's passive homophobia is a small but still crucial part of why we have to keep fighting to be proud of and stand up for ourselves.

It’s so depressing these posts have to devolve like this. I guess least it lets me see people show their true colors. Nothing like having someone tell me that my existence causes division.

Its more so me not wanting another thread to get closed because we went off the rails again. You often tunnel vision your perspective while not fully considering mine. I'd rather we all be able to get along while no one needing to conform to the ways of the other. Thats actually what DBD was when I started playing.

Passive homophobia is still homophobia. You can not want to take our rights away or not insult us while still softly encouraging prejudice by normalizing the idea of hiding pride flags a.k.a hiding queer people.

That is the very antithesis to coexisting peacefully.

  • It's not about thrill though, according to your own logic in asking for pride charms to be hidden.

You don't want to see things that go against your faith. Based on that alone, you should probably be uninstalling DBD entirely.

  • @KateMain86 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2989483#Comment_2989483

But I also don't see having the option to disable charms, whether selectively or just all charms altogether, as taking away anything from those that want to use them. By all means use them if that is what you want to do. I don't think its an unfair opinion to say that pride charms caused division in the community.

Sigh... anyway. I'd rather continue this in a thread more revolved around the topic than here. I've wanted to talk about this, but I don't think this is the thread to do it.

You're objectively right, in that it doesn't take away their right to use them. That's not the topic here. The topic is you choosing a celebratory thread on a new pride charm to ask for this.

And if you really want to break it down even further based on faith, I don't think you should be playing a game with murders, demons, ghosts, and other things that your faith would deem sinful, blasphemous, or evil.

A rainbow bird is the least of your worries.

You're right. I'm not fooling anyone. I never intend to. I think I was being very fair as to not suggest only making the pride charms optional to visibility in the game. That is why I suggested making the option for all charms visible for the individual. Isn't that fair? Anyway, I'll probably make my own thread about this at some point because this is just needless derailment.

I wouldn't call it fair at all.

If I follow your statement of being a person of faith for a moment, these charms are not taking away your right to believe in that faith. They are not impeding you from playing the game in any way. They are certainly not forcing you to change anything.

Now, take it from another perspective: a racist person asks "why can't I have the option to hide all Claudettes/Adams/Zarinas/Haddies/etc?" Do you see how this is a slippery slope?

DBD isn't forcing you to change anything about yourself or your beliefs. But you can't hide away the existence of others who have done nothing to you.

Oh I know they exists. I exists too. And my suggestion wasn't to cut out evidence of the existence of others. My suggestion was to make it optional so the inclusion of all can continue in peace. The pride charms caused division in this community and its disheartening to see.

Ah ah ah, not so fast buddy:

    @KateMain86 said:

Thank you for making this charm optional.

Your original statement was about making a pride charm optional. Not making all charms optional to view, and CERTAINLY not "so the inclusion of all can continue in peace."

In fact, all charms are optional, as in you don't have to ever put them on your characters or hooks. Viewing charms is NOT optional, as it's left up to whoever you're in a match with. But you already knew all this. You singled in on "making this charm optional"

You aren't fooling anyone - not even yourself.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2964614#Comment_2964614

Sure, you can have a perk that only works if your opponents bring something you can't tell in advance, but don't expect anyone to use it after the first week. Because, like... when's the last time you saw someone bring Distortion? It's not a bad effect, but it's hella unreliable and won't even work against all of the killer info perks. Smash Hit isn't a bad idea, but it banks on the killer being an M1 killer and not respecting pallets, so it's utterly not worth it. Calm Spirit? Great against Doctor or Infectious Fright, but your odds of facing those aren't nearly high enough to justify the perk choice. The meta trio of DS/BT/UB is so prominent because tunneling/camping/slugging is so common - and it'd be even more common if not for the meta. Remember the immediate uptick in tunneling when DS was nerfed? The point is that it's not just a favorable gamble, it's a deterrent (which in and of itself only works because it's meta.) I'm not saying I'm happy with the state of things, mind. I think it sucks that survivors have to bring perks in order to protect themselves from things killers can always do to force them out of the game early. But there's a reason those three perks are used and something like Repressed Alliance isn't.

I feel it's really important to note that Shattered Hope isn't anything groundbreaking against most matches with boons. What it does is protect against those really inconvenient totem spots like Ironworks catwalks or Temple basement, and it also can break up a 3-gen stalemate in the killer's favor. In a bog-standard match with Circle of Healing, the totem's going to get broken once or twice and relocated somewhere else. It might slow down the booner if they don't know where other totems are, but by no means is it stopping boons from being present in the match. Going around hunting for boons instead of survivors is still throwing the game. This perk is not a hard counter the way UB counters slugging or BT counters camping (DS, I believe could use some work as a true anti-tunneling perk), so I really don't think it's worth the risk of bringing when there's a fair chance it has no potential for use at all.

I feel like Lightborn is a fair comparison to make here. Lightborn is a perk that does nothing if the survivors don't have flashlights, firecrackers, or flashbangs - but I can see two out of these three things in the lobby and the first one is by far the most common (not to mention I just don't care about flashbangs period, too easy to dodge.) I don't care if I see one or two flashlights in the lobby, and I can handle that on my own, but three makes me leery and four makes me grab for Lightborn. I don't care if there's a Circle of Healing in the survivors' lineup, but if there's boons and a map offering, that's when Shattered Hope would be worth it. But I can't know that the same way I can know about Lightborn, and the perk really will not do enough in most matches for me to ever spend the perk slot on it. It'd be like bringing Mad Grit every game in case I face a bodyblocker squad. I can't afford to do that. Nobody does that. And if flashlights were invisible in the lobby, nobody would ever bring Lightborn, because why would you bring a perk that's going to give you value once every fifteen games when you can bring a perk that's going to give you value every game?

Meanwhile, you can look at a perk like Soul Guard, which isn't popular but I do see it used more than any of the survivor perks I listed earlier. You only get its full value if the killer's running a hex, which isn't something you can predict, but it has a secondary effect that always applies and that gives it a place in some builds.

Oh, I agree with you 100%. There’s a whole separate conversation to be had about perk viability and usage. I personally would love to see a lot of perk buffs for killer and survivor both.

My point was more toward the idea that only killers can have infallible perks, or that all killer perks have to have viability regardless of what survivors bring. If we’re going to assess killer perks based on viability, and not leave room for guesswork as to if any use will be obtained, we should assess perks for survivors the same way as well.

  • @sizzlingmario4 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2964614#Comment_2964614

I disagree because the killer’s perks matter more.

If one survivor brings a perk that depends on the killer’s behavior, and they don’t get to use it, oh well. That’s 1 perk out of their 4, but their teammates all still have 4 perks.

If a killer uses a perk slot on something that doesn't help them, they’ve wasted a fourth of their entire perk loadout.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2964591#Comment_2964591

Distortion still gives you the info that certain aura perks AREN’T present in the trial, which is info you couldn’t easily have otherwise. So it’s not useless.

But the opposite side of this argument is, there’s a better chance with 4 people that one will bring a boon, thus justifying the risk assessment of bringing Shattered Hope.

  • It doesn’t need one. You’re taking that chance by bringing it.

There are a plethora of survivor perks that depend on the killer’s behavior, or can be negated by the killer not doing or bringing something - heck, even the occasional meta perk like DS can be completely negated.

it’s completely valid and ok for killers to have some perks like this also.

Feel free to call out people by name instead of generalizing all anti-DH players as hypocrites.

Once again, as I mentioned in a previous thread to you where we discussed this, I never addressed ALL of anybody.

Your issue with "generalizations" is not my issue. It'd be more useful to actually address my point instead of laser-focusing on very specific word choices - especially ones you're putting forth, not me. And I'm not going to take the time to tag dozens of people, nor am I going to waste my energy keeping tabs on every single person who's done this for future use.

If you need semantics that insignificant to be broken down for you, I'm not the one to reply to or engage with.

  • NOED is, mechanically, similar to DH. It corrects bad gameplay, not all the time, but often enough. Neither side has to do anything to earn either perk.

Yet, on the forums, you'll see the same people who say DH isn't earned, call NOED balanced or fair. The truth is, both are annoying for either side, and both can be dealt with, albeit not conveniently.

If a survivor has to earn the right to use a perk, a killer should as well, and vice versa.

  • Anything that isn't SWF is pretty unplayable right now, truthfully

  • @Tiufal said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2962582#Comment_2962582

Thats objectively the only truth unless you play against pitty killers that dont know when to drop a survivor. They dont even have to pick you up again, they can down the next one, and come back the moment you get picked up, down you again on spot and have you lost all wiggle progress.

No, it's not. You're either wearing hardcore survivor main glasses, or you're just really bad at the game. Either way, this seems to be a you issue.

  • @Tiufal said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2962545#Comment_2962545

Not really. That progress hardly ever makes a difference.

I am in that dropping the survivor needs more of a downside than it actually has. Its just problamatic due to sabotage, that could be the next Boil Over issue.

This is just objectively not true. I play solo survivor almost exclusively and I almost always break free after being dropped unless I’m dropped right by a hook for some reason.

If a hook is saboed and you’re dropped, simply crawl away from the hook and create some distance?

  • I'm not sure I understand... you just accumulate more wiggle progress when they pick you back up.

Unless you mean when you break free from their grasp? At which point, they're stunned for a second and you get a chance to get away, so it's as if the match "reset" to before you were downed.

In either scenario, there's nothing unfair lol

  • I'm not saying I agree with any of these or DCing in general, but here are some of the reasons I can think of:

    • Denies killer some points (depending on when it's done)
    • Denies killer hook-related perks
    • Teammates are terrible/not doing anything
    • Being sandbagged by teammates
    • Being tunneled repeatedly
    • Frustration due to many toxic matches in a row

Is this justifiable? No, but this is also what happens when solo q is left to rot by the wayside *shrugs*

  • Their approach seems to be addressing the ENTIRETY of the meta for both sides. In order to do that, these perks have to be included.

Do I think this is the best choice? Not really. I think the meta bandaids a lot of other gameplay issues. But at least they're looking at everything.

  • All boons becoming absolutely useless instead of making CoH less frustrating?

why even introduce boons at all then?

  • Yeah I was so excited for the prospect of Haddie but she just looks... sort of goofy.

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2955192#Comment_2955192

I didn't avoid your questioning. It's just not relevant to me:

The vocal portion of the killer community that want dead-hard murdered are probably a small subset, just like the vocal portion of the survivor community that want NOED nerfed. The sizes of those subsets are debatable, but you don't have to say "all" when you make sweeping statements in previous posts. We read it as it was meant to be taken and it was egregious generalizing.

I promise you what isn't a generalization is the sheer number of forum goers that read these nerf threads and roll their eyes, never adding their own input because it isn't even on their radar or it's beaten to death and better solutions have already been offered. You can also click on the OP's name and see how many threads they create or proliferate regarding the same issue. You will find repeat offenders.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2955188#Comment_2955188

And this is my point. Most Nurse and Blight players probably don't complain about DH anywhere near as much as people who play M1 killers that struggle far more with it. You really think DH holds back two of the most mobile killers when they're played properly? If a blight gets hit by DH it's, "Okay, I'll see you soon." If a Ghostface gets hit by DH it's, "Okay, have a nice life maybe I'll get you during the EGC if you tool around enough trying to rescue my 1k".

And in turn, the people who don't give their input are also not relevant to this discussion, because even if they have great and rational ideas, they're offering nothing. You're not wrong, but it's just a moot point.

When Behaviour looks at the community for feedback on perks, who do you think they hear? The eye rollers who contribute nothing, or the loud subsets? It isn't egregious generalizing if that's the only information there is to go off of. Behaviour certainly doesn't survey the community anonymously about specific perks very often, if at all, so other than match statistics, the "vocal minority" as it were are the only other data (based on player opinions) that they have to base decisions on.

  • @foxsansbox said:

Lots of generalizations and assumptions in this post. You just spoke for all killers twice and said something different both times.

    • If killers are so concerned about survivors not "earning" DH, why does the perk fundamentally have to change what it does?
    • You'll find that most people on this forum don't want to give it a condition, they just want it killed, period.

Have you considered that maybe many people have many different solutions and no-one has agreed on anything?

This is a very vague way to avoid my fundamental line of questioning. Yes, many people have many solutions. We're all different people, this isn't some deep or revolutionary talking point.

At what point did I ever say "all" for anyone? I used the general term "killers", and specifically said "most people on this forum", not in the game. Regardless, it's safe to "generalize" and "assume" that most people on this forum want Dead Hard killed, as evidenced by the plethora of topics that literally say "kill Dead Hard", "it should have never been in the game", etc etc.

  • @RenDesune said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2955154#Comment_2955154

If a perk is used in half of all games and causes this much frustration, it's OP. Dead Hard has the capability to extend chases far beyond what they would have originally been just by the press of a single button. The survivor does not work for dead hard, no resources go into using it. It's just a single button press and in exchange it grants the survivor 20+ seconds of free chase. If say three survivors have that perk and all use it well for distance then that is devastating for a killer who's entire gameplay revolves around time management.

And it won't solve the frustrations with SWF but it will be a start. Dead Hard is even worse when playing against SWF because they use it in more risky and unorthodox ways because they know they have another survivor ready to flashlight save them or sobo hook right around the corner. DH is an unhealthy perk no matter how you spin the story. It's a crutch perk thats too good for the skill it takes, it's frustrating for the killers, and enables SWF to be even more unstoppable.

In that case, give it a token system or something specific that procs it besides just being injured. If killers are so concerned about survivors not "earning" DH, why does the perk fundamentally have to change what it does? Why not just give it a condition before it can work?

You'll find that most people on this forum don't want to give it a condition, they just want it killed, period.

Why would nerfing an overwhelmingly complained about perk not improve the Killer experience? Elaborate, I am curious.

If you read my entire post, I specifically say "against SWF squads", which it won't. Bully squads will bully, just as killers will camp and tunnel. The only group this will affect are halfway decent solo survivors.
