If you rank up in skill, you are tryhard player and should be matched with them (because otherwise it will be bullying baby killers/squads) and if you rank down in skill, you should face baby survs and killers because you are baby player.
I don't see what's wrong with it, really.
Yeah sure, if the requirements for ranking weren't so laughably basic, which was the entire first thing I said in my post.
I can be camped to death on first hook multiple matches in a row, and because I died every time, start facing baby killers. I have 3k hours in the game. I have no business looping a baby killer for 5 gens without getting hit once. That isn't an accurate skill based ranking.
-
It's just a skin. Out of everything there is to complain about with dbd lately, this is a weird hill to die on.
-
My post is all based on personal experience, so take what you will from it.
I'm a solo queue survivor most of the time. I started this game right around the time Stranger Things came out. This was before a lot of changes, but significantly, before SBMM. It's my belief that "S"BMM (it requires no skill whatsoever) is the reason that the community has become worse.
The need to play like a "tryhard" is directly proportionate to the implementation of SBMM. Because of how rudimentary the requirements are for your skill rank, most people have to play in completely different ways than they would have previously. This has made the game fundamentally less enjoyable overall for everyone other than the best SWFs. You "rank" up in skill, you face tryhard squads and sweaty killers. You "rank" down in skill, you face baby killers AND baby teammates who don't know what they're doing to help the team.
To be fair, there are a lot of issues besides this one, of course. But nothing is as glaringly detrimental to the game in my eyes as SBMM. I haven't played in months because of it, and I'd be willing to bet there are a lot of players who feel the same.
-
Fix mmr. Game has been an unplayable clusterfuck since.

What a load of crap. When I play survivors I only play soloQ, because I got no DBD friends, and I escape more trials then not, often getting some daring escapes and rescues into the mix.
People on this forums exaggerate EVERYTHING.
I've been playing solo survivor for almost 3k hours. It is undoubtedly the "worst" experience in DBD, and a team full of solo queues IS almost always thrashed. It's the whole reason good solo players go on to create SWFs.
-
Kindred, BT, DS, and Iron Will are my go to currently.
I hadn't played with DS in a long long time, but the tunneling lately is just horrendous.
-
They can't just make Quentin cosmetics willy nilly lol
-
I think people confuse toxic with annoying/frustrating
The only actual toxic behavior is cheating/hacking, abusive end game messages, breaking rules, and exploiting glitches
Just because you don’t like being tunneled, or don’t like survivors clicking their flashlights at you, doesn’t mean they’re doing anything wrong lol

To be fair, I don't think DBD is particularly scary or serious either. I can't think of a time I was genuinely afraid in DBD, and there's not a match that goes by where I don't think "man this is some silly nonsense".
Agreed. A game where some of the most evil, dastardly, iconic killers can be stunned with a pallet is not as serious as some people think it is lol
-
Absolutely. A lot of "issues" people have with the game aren't issues with the game at all, but rather them making their own misery lol
-
As much as I relate on an emotional level, this is exactly why nostalgia should never be a factor in balancing or tweaking a game.
People tend to actively ignore the bad that used to be around because of their fond memories.

Remember kids:
Killers getting a 4K = Desperate. Sweaty. 'Be happy with the 3K!'
Survivors getting a 4E = 'You're not meant to win every game! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ *Flashlight clicking intensifies* '
In all fairness, one survivor can't escape 4 times in a match, so this isn't applicable to anything except a 4 person SWF, who are ALSO desperate and sweaty lol

Sunk cost fallacy, and I personally believe if I make enough survivors absolutely miserable they'll cry for a meta change too. I can't imagine ignoring health states is fun for anyone. When I play survivor, it's just rote. Pre-drop pallets and force breaks, find new tilesets, eventually take a hit, eventually deadhead for your third health state, eventually get a body block for your fourth health state- make it to COH and heal or end up on hook and rinse and repeat. If our health states actually mattered the chases would have more value and you could balance around that instead.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2773095#Comment_2773095
No us vs them here, second chance exists on both sides, and it doesn't matter if the majority rest on the survivor side. It takes two to tango and Killers are playing AROUND those perks. You can make changes, you just have to admit it's a glaring problem.
I'm talking about buffing aura perks for survivors. Alert is a great example of a perk that can be used in a loop to bamboozle a killer. Imagine if it gave 7 seconds of aura reading, imagine the stealth nonsense plays you could make with it then? It would additionally tell a solo they're safe to stay on the gen if they see a killer break a pallet across the map and then move even farther away.
If the meta goes, this game could be fixed.
It isn't us vs them and you can't just default to that to escape my point - the concept of "second chance perks" is almost exclusively used in arguments against survivors. So nerfing "second chance perks" would disproportionately affect one side. That's just the truth. You aren't "killing the meta on both sides" if one side is barely affected.
To your second point, I stand corrected about the aura perks in that case. But then in regards to that, exactly how many things can you do with aura perks instead? For example, how would an aura perk help counter tunneling if DS were further nerfed? How would an aura perk help counter camping if BT were nerfed?
-
Tips from a solo queue survivor:
Nurse match: Do gens and deal with it.
Demo match: He downed you, deal with it.

There's nothing here to unpack except that I disagree with you on all points. You don't get to choose the meta as an individual, you have to play around it. I'm allowed to be competitive, full stop. And the slugging is happening far more often than you think it is, regardless of your personal experience.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2773043#Comment_2773043
The alternative is kill the meta completely by nerfing all second chance perks on both sides and considerably buffing aura perks so they additionally become potential mind-game perks and the rest of the perk library while we're at it.
This could work if second chance perks weren't a mostly survivor-sided concept to begin with. A vast majority of the meta that killers play don't give them second chances at anything.
So the result is killers keeping their meta with the addition of buffing aura perks, thus destroying solo queue even more than it already has been.
-
@foxsansbox said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2773025#Comment_2773025
Where have you been? We are working around it. We're slugging more than we ever had, and tunneling more than we ever had. We know it's not fun for you and it's certainly not what we want either.
Hence, the complaining.
But then what is the alternative? Don't buff perks at all? Nerf all perks including metas and make them all laughably weak? Remove the SWF option so that strong perks aren't overwhelming, even though a majority of survivor is solo queue? None of these sound practical or good for the game.
This complaining is an issue on both sides of course, not just killer. But because we're talking about Boil Over, let's look at it in those terms: BO was on no killer's radar previously. Now, it has decent use. Why does a perk getting use automatically warrant complaining and nerfing? Or, to be unbiased, we could make the same argument against old Undying. I didn't agree with survivors immediately screaming to nerf that either.
There are occasions that definitely warrant it, i.e. CoH and old DS, but a lot of perk buffs are not game changers. We have killers and survivors both crying out against the "boring" meta, but then what do you propose to do about that if you don't want weak perks buffed?
-
Felix's is a perfect example. I would love to use the clothes with his Oktoberfest hair, but since they want to be stubborn, I won't be buying any of it at all lol
-
Other players, generally post SBMM
-
Probably not, or if they do, they'll get played for a week and dropped
Both sides will never give up their precious metas unless forced to
-
This sounds fair to me. It definitely needed this, but it really doesn’t need much more other than possibly removing med kit stacking

Honestly yea now I can take "Using circle of healing means you're trash" out of my bio thank god.
One perk dictates the quality of how a wide variety of survivors play? Don’t killer mains usually use “valid tactic” as a comeback whenever survivors whine about perks or playstyles too?
What a weird and irrational take. You sure told them though lol.
-
DCs cannot count as hooks in any way other than the regular BPs a killer would miss.
For example, let's say a teammate's internet drops out randomly - they aren't being chased, they aren't even injured. Why does the killer suddenly get a BBQ stack, a PGTW proc, aura reading, etc? This would be way too broken.
The ONLY way it'd be feasible is if they game could somehow differentiate between DCs just before hooks, vs random DCs. But if the system could do that, there wouldn't be penalties for anyone other than rage quitters.
It's just not practical, nor fair really. DCing is a problem for sure, but the remaining players just have to eat that match and go on after.
-
The skill itself hasn't changed significantly since patch 2.0 where people could dead hard onto untouchable obstacles and exploit maps. But what really changed? Ahhh right....the surrounding game changed. Hit validation changed the game, Pallet distance changed the game, Map spread changed the game. A perk that wasn't really a huge problem before, is now completely bricking people. But ask yourself this.... do you attack the perk, or do you attack the systems put in place that put the perk over the top? Make your choice.
Finally, a common sense post on this forum about DH. People cry out for nerfs, but DH has been the same perk for ages now. It only started being used more frequently when the DS nerf came.
IMO, the problem lies with the Realm Beyond and the way they've changed the maps around. DH FEELS worse to face because of the way it operates on maps now.
-
MMR really knocked this game down, which is frustrating because it's something a lot of the community wanted, albeit in a better form than we have it now.

I just really want a bare bones mode, no more COH, no more Dead hard, no more second chances, just survivors and killers focusing solely on resource/time management.
And what killer perks would you have removed from this mode as well then?
-
Dead Hard was never really complained about until this last year - coincidentally after the DS nerf, and when survivors started to replace DS with other perks - so I'm inclined to believe it isn't actually deserving of one. Just seems to be the next bandwagon perk people are crying out against (for the record, DS absolutely deserved it's nerf and is balanced well now, but some people on either side make it their mission to solely get the other nerfed).
CoH definitely needs a few big tweaks to keep it's strength but not make it the ridiculous course-correction it is now. The other boons are fine as they are.
-
Honestly, I wasn't the biggest fan, but I lowkey miss the Hawkins map a lot now lol.
I'd give anything to have it repurposed into a lab for the Blight or something.

There's a couple of issues to your logic when it comes to saying nerfing perks will make the game boring
First, is that it's already at that point while killers have universally used perks such a bbq the side also has varying gameplays unlike survivor which is the same no matter what person you use which leads to people wanting their meta perks gone.
And second is the fact that it game itself is way too perk dependent as it is cause think about it like this. Without the perks survivors will have no crutches, no excuses and no ego trips anymore and for killer it could lead to some being revealed as having bad base kits and some do need balancing but as it stands now the perks are the problem and as long as people keep trying to defend using said perks it's going to stay unbalanced.
You're right in the sense that I worded my statement a bit wonky. I don't care about having more variety of perks in play necessarily - people play what they want and we can't control that.
What I care about is not nerfing everything that's even slightly strong to useless levels, which is what both survivors and killers seem to aim for when it comes to nerfing the other side's meta.
I do agree about perk dependence being a problem, but I don't think making EVERYTHING weak is the way to go for that.
-

And i'm tired of nonsense non-logical statements like yours.
If we nerf meta perks, the game is boring? automatically?..did you forget this game has 200 perks?
Ok, even if that absolute non sense statement was the case. How is nerfing Twins and Clown making the game more fun and add variety??
Wouldn't it make MORE SENSE to buff killers and build that are not played in every match so then we would actually see variety?
Twins and Clown/add-ons in general have nothing to do with anything I said, as I was talking about perks (both killer and survivor perks btw), so for someone who supposedly prides themselves on logic, that was a very illogical counter to make lol.
My main point is that nerfing all meta perks all the time is not the way to go, period. I don't care about perk variety, I care about perk usability. People can play whatever perks they want, but if we nerf all strong perks to pathetic levels, THAT is what makes gameplay more boring.
-
@IamFran said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2737373#Comment_2737373
In fact, with some meta perks nerfed there would be more variety, not less because people would be forced to be more creative with their builds.
Also, at least in my case, I don't want my side elevated, I just want DH and CoH nerfed and some maps balanced, I don't mind the state of BT, DS, Sprint Burst, the other boons, etc. I think I'm not asking big things.
And if everyone could view things like you, we'd be in a much better state as a community.
However, as it stands, once DH gets it's inevitable nerf, and CoH is changed, then it will move on to "Sprint Burst gives too much distance!!!" Same thing with survivors- if they were to touch Pop/Corrupt/NOED, then it becomes "Tinkerer is op and shouldn't have stealth!!!" and then it'll trickle down to anything else that somehow starts getting used.
You can already witness this with threads about Dead Man's Switch and Boil Over. Most players DO just want their side elevated.
-
I'm so tired of seeing whining on both sides about strong perks. I've been playing since 2019, so not even the duration of the game, yet DH was rarely complained about until the meta shifted after other perks were nerfed. It's like each side is set out to nerf every meta perk the other has, one at a time.
Sure, let's nerf DH, BT, CoH, NOED, Ruin, BBQ, and all meta perks into the ground and make this game absolutely boring with no variety. While we're at it, let's just remove perks from the game entirely, REALLY make it about skill and skill alone. That way, no one's feelings can be hurt by a perk in a game.
For the record, a few like CoH definitely could benefit with a change, of course. But most people aren't actually looking for balance, they're looking for their side to be elevated.

Even though I kinda made that as a troll move I am serious about one thing.
Why is it when people want to talk about the balance of the game, bming, and so on, it always has at least one person say " Tunneling and camping are making the game unfun" or "Antiloopers are unskilled" or something on those lines but when someone calls out the other sides bullshit it's always met with basically toddler arguments?
So you just voluntarily pretend not to see when killers do it as well, right?
Both sides complain and whine about everything on here. You're not making any intelligent point by cherry-picking where you see it.

Ah, there's your issue, then. You're assuming that game balancing works that you look at "what side" needs "buffs or nerfs", instead of looking at where the problems in general lay and what the solutions would be. There are problems on the survivor side too, and there's nothing wrong with fixing those if doing so is quick and simple- and while these proposed changes are by no means a full fix, they are quick and simple, so implementing them is just fine.
There is absolutely no reason they can't make changes that will benefit both sides at the same time- and if they don't, that's worthy of criticism! But leaning hard into criticising an attempted fix for a problem that very much does exist, just because you can't look beyond the "us vs them" side-based view of balance, is a very silly thing to do.
And again, this isn't a massive buff. Survivors already have access to much stronger versions of this effect, either from perks or from being on comms with friends. This will only benefit people who don't play on comms, and the gap between SWF and SoloQ does need to be shortened before any meaningful balance can be made. This is laid out in the dev update that sparked this conversation, even.
This user doesn't seem to want anything for the survivor side of the game, period, based on their posts I've seen throughout the forum.
That said, I appreciate your logical, unbiased approach to countering them. Very good opinions to read in a thread, honestly.

There's no useful discussion to be had when a person rants about something ridiculous right out of the gate.
-
I do what I need to do, because a 4 K/4 man escape is not important to me lol. I play as normal as I can, but my goal is my goal and I stick to it if I can.

Because as a survivor going against a hacker you just die or escape it's easy to leave the game you're never held hostage unlike killer
This is not true lol.
A friend and I played a Trapper who kept nuking our gens and then planting traps underneath us, forcing us to struggle our way out, but the speed was so slow that it took 10 minutes just for one try. He would then reset you into the trap if you managed to somehow break out.
I and the two randoms eventually DCed, but my friend stayed in that match for almost 2 hours because he has a DCing problem (lol) and didn't want to get hit with a high penalty.
Either way, though - DCing should not be a necessary option to leave a match.
-
This melodrama is so tiring.
The game is not "one-sided" overall. There are for sure glaring issues for both sides, but most people do not play this game as seriously as the vocal minority on the forums do, and the general population that plays would likely find they win and lose fairly evenly, if they even care about "winning" at all instead of just messing around and having fun.
That equates to many killers and survivors are not playing like ultra sweatlords who's lives are devoted to this game. Those types of players are the ones who feel the game is one-sided because they can no longer ez 4k or 4 man escape anymore.
-
I use online perk roulettes and randomizers to pick what I bring in my build/what my win condition will be for that match.
I've had some really strange games with weird plays I never thought possible because of this lol.

They would not have to rework anything, if the gates regressed by 5%. It's 2 seconds to prevent 'I win' no-fear scenarios. What else would have to be reworked?
Nothing.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2703883#Comment_2703883
Fair but gates should still regress to prevent 99ing. Absolutely nothing in this game is in the Killer's favor right now. Nothing. Even Hex's, once the domain of 'too strong (rofl) effects' have been punted into the trash by the absolute OP trash that is Boon Totems.
NOTHING in this game favors Killers anymore. Nothing.
Even Killer powers favor Survivors, and have for years. IE: Nemesis extends chases if he uses his tentacle instead of just punching.
Killers need /something/ or there won't be Killers to play with. I'm already convinced Ringu girl will follow the same pattern of every other Killer:
- Power looks awesome!
- Power plays awesome on PTB!
- Due to (insert BS speak here); we've nerfed the Killer into garbage after everyone bought her. Have fun bullying, Survivors.
To be fair, I'm actually not opposed to a slight regression myself. It would encourage teamwork, i.e. someone would have to stay behind to open the gate for optimal escape.
But killers' energies are better suited to making arguments for nerfs to CoH, buffs for weaker killers, and possibly even buffs to Hexes. The EGC is comparatively a non-issue to those, especially since the devs most likely wouldn't see EGC as a killer issue to begin with.
-
EGC is not a killer tool, it's simply a way to prevent infinite matches.
If anything, the 99 makes it take a bit longer to get the rescued teammate out. The only thing it really affects negatively is Blood Warden, which I'm in favor of slightly buffing for this reason.
If you truly have a problem, bring No Way Out and/or Remember Me, or open a gate yourself.

And so what? I NEVER complained about SWF and i said this isnt a them vs us and yet you make this comment.
I litteraly even said all solos need it information buffs to be ON PAR with SWF.
I never said you did. It isn’t “us vs them”, it’s just simple truth. It’s a perpetuating cycle and both sides are at fault in different ways.
Just because you may have a more nuanced view on this subject doesn’t mean the consensus follows, sadly. People in this very thread are saying survivor is so easy that we don’t need any buffs in solo. That’s just ignorant at best.
My point is to show how purposely withholding from solo queue creates the very thing these same people complain about later - not necessarily you specifically.
Solo queue tends to be the role that gets the most shafted in this game, so I’m not going to apologize for my stance on that.
-
It always amazes me that the retort to “solo queue needs a buff” is “its your TEAM’S fault!!! Work as a TEAM!!”
and yet, in the same breath elsewhere on the forums, “SWFs are ruining this game!!” Uh, SWF is a direct result of decent survivors being tired of having potatoes and WANTING to work together as a team.
You can’t have it both ways. SWFs get free info solos don’t without using entire perk slots. Solos suffer greatly by comparison. Solos then group up to make gameplay more efficient. Killers proceed to complain about SWFs. It’s simple cause and effect.

Great take, chief.
-
I've always advocated for some form of a karma system instead of a penalty, wherein players with bad karma due to dcing would play with like-minded individuals. The karma would not be determined by other players, but by the internal DC detection system.
In theory, the worse your karma is, the smaller your pool of players would be, thus "soft penalizing" you by making you wait ages for a match. Or, if the pool is large, nobody would ever have satisfying games because everyone would be dcing all the time lol
-
I'm not necessarily opposed to a concede option, for both sides.
However, I'm not sure how you'd put limitations on it that would differ it from essentially DCing.
