Would be nice. Be able to blow 1mil and get a character to 50.

And often times you wind up having 2000 or below after spending, so this could be a nice alternative to the bloodhunt that can really utilize ALL your points.

  • What I did was play normally, and then at the end I downed one, opened the door myself, and hooked her - it was her final hook too.

I was playing Huntress ONLY because I had 22 petals from last year. I pretty much strictly was an m1/r2 huntress. Just saying I wasn’t using a killer I was at all comfortable with.

Try using noed. This tends to discourage altruistic survivors.

    What facts don't I know?

The fact is that the Rift was advertised to be casual friendly, yet we see that it requires a ridiculous amount of hours that goes against that claim with challenges designed to start off easy at first to lure people in only to be very frustrating to complete with a very limited amount of time to complete the hardest ones to get the rift fragments. Again as I've said, even in the most upmost best case scenario which is basically impossible, it still requires devoting a couple of hours a day. I dunno about you, but that doesn't sound casual at all to me. Would you describe a casual as: "A person who plays a single game for multiple hours everyday day"?

We do know more than 1.5/4 challenges. We could see all of the challenges on the PTB. And in fact, they have changed from the PTB -- to be even harder than they were from the PTB version. That NOED one used to be only 2 kills. That Dark sense one used to be 2 generators -- not 4. Etc. Etc.

"Subject to change" isn't an excuse. This is a product that they're selling now and I'm going to review it as it is now -- not what they may change it to be in the future. I'm also the type of person where, when it comes to a company, who's motive is of course always to make money, that first impressions say a lot. Especially on something where a majority of the community had said that they DO NOT want a battle-pass in DBD and they ignored that feedback anyways. What was even the point of that survey?

To me, this seems like the age-old tactic game developers always do; pushing the bubble as far as they can until the bubble pops, and then taking a single step back. If it's not this, then the only other logical explanation is again, they are woefully disconnected from their playerbase and their own game. Again, either reason is not good. And how shady that we don't have the "full picture" of something and yet is still sold at full price in the store? Sounds pretty anti-consumer to me.

You can try arguing against the math and the time required all you want. But unless something changes drastically and changes soon, then I'll be seeing you later in 67 more days when you've played for more than 250 hours and still haven't maxed your rift and will be looking at the time saver options in the store.

    Heh. “Options.”

Those “time saver” “options” are neither. They WANT and ENCOURAGE you to buy those skips so that $10 pass becomes an entry fee and you end up spending much more than that. If you want to skip you WILL be dropping an extra $5 AT LEAST. Also by the time you will actually want to get such “time savers” - you will have already wasted your time and energy trying to get to the next level and you’re FORCED to buy if you want to proceed.

  • Same for me. It just started. Restarting the app does nothing.

And here we have another bootlicker that is willing to pay for everything the very incompetent devs throw at us. This event is pure ######### compared to literally every other event they've had and any other game is having at the moment. I truly don't want to support the devs any further with this kinda paywall and bullshit they're throwing at us. I mean hell, even Mattieu comes from EA so this kinda BS is expected, he just hid it for this long.

Is this an event or is it “surprise disappointment?”

  • I agree. Halloween should be the biggest event for a horror game like dbd. I remember when there was summer bbq and hallowed blight - those were great events, only needing minor improvements. This is just a soulless cash grab.

People say this all the time because it´s true - you need to take some time to test things first in order to get a proper impression - don´t jump the gun. After two weeks we will have a better idea of how this is working.

It´s also very dramatic to see how many people have used the word "impossible" in this discussion. Maybe in the future, the devs can share some statistics of how many people around the world completed the challenges =)

Some things don’t need to be tested though because people already have knowledge of how it would work. Anyone can tell you that it is not realistic to expect these roadblocks to get done in a single trial, let alone the fact that dcing is all too common - especially among the petty and salty who are aware of the “challenges.”

These “challenges” ARE virtually impossible if you want to play the game fair and normally. The only way for normal players to even attempt to get these done is if you farm (and hope they don’t backstab you) or play toxic.

This is what I don't understand. This is a horror game, where you paid an MSRP, where they want you to pay quarterly for DLCs, pay quarterly for a Battlepass, and have a cash shop on top of all that. And "It's not special but it is something," is okay for a Halloween event?

It's no wonder a lot of these game companies barely try anymore and just go all out to milk their players' wallets.

It's a damned shame that games that aren't even horror themed managed to pull off better Halloween events this year. While here in Dead by Daylight, BHVR just continues to do the minimum while expecting you to continuously open your wallet.

And I can see from many threads that some people just continue to open the wallet no matter what. I guess that's what Cote must have meant by: "pretty good job, so far."

The EA-style business model is working out great for them.

    I agree. Ugh.

Halloween should be the event of the year for dbd! Yet it’s CLEARLY just a cash cow to get people paying for the battle pass AND PAYING EXTRA FOR IT TOO.

No, I like a challenge. I would rather just earn say 750 of a 1000 with challenging missions than 500 of 500 with all easy missions.

If you can’t tell the difference between a challenge and a roadblock specifically designed to frustrate, deny, and coerce you to spend more money, I feel really sorry for you.

  • The rebate ac just seems like a gimmick anyway, as well as a sneaky way to lend “credence” to the impossible pie in the sky challenges.

I will not buy something that is designed to frustrate me into spending more money.

  • @Pirscher said:

Oh well, it´s only been a couple of days since this has gone live.

Should we maybe give it some time, wait a couple weeks and see how things work out instead of straight away complaining??

People say this all the time and it literally has never worked. Players are intelligent enough to know that if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s a duck.

Not to mention “hey, what if we just wait and see” also has literally never worked in the history of ever.

  • It’s literally the same philosophy that greedy and predatory mobile games share: “sorry, you can’t play right now but you can speed up the process for only x fake currency used in lieu of real money!”

Not to mention this literally forces players who are not as skilled as Monto, Otz, Tru3, etc. to either give up or pay up.

    Gross.

I was going to invest in the Pass but after seeing the Level 1 challenges of 'Single Trial' challenges, it's making me super wary for higher. And if the only way I'll be able to level up said pass is just playing, it would take far too long, so it's a very hard pass on that for me. I'll stick with free unless these challenges get made a little less frustrating, because yes, people may be like 'Just git gud' or 'They're easy lol'. But lets face it. On what match has any survivor allowed killers to trap them with traps? What game has any survivor let people just hook them all. Low ranks yes, but high ranks, they're freaking toxic as all hell. And now challenges are in the game, I'm seeing more and more DC's because people can't get their single trial challenges, which is impacting games going forward. I was looking forward to the lore, but this has really put a huge negative view on it for me, and I'm going to be super skeptical of the future tomes now. I pray they learn from this and make the single trial ones a little more easy. Not super easy, but at least lower the numbers down.

Survivors tend to usually not want to help the killer. In recent memory, I’ve only came across 2 groups who weren’t trying to screw my (baby) killer, and only 1 of those fully participated (the second had a toxic Nea who liked to make loud and constant noises.)

And survivors will NEVER willingly allow you to sacrifice them. And they’ll MAYBE only allow hooks if there’s a friend near but even then, it’s risky. I myself allow myself to die if the killer had a bad game or was particularly nice, but I know I’m an exception to the rule.

As the pass currently stands, I have no faith or confidence in it. I’m not paying for something that’s blatantly designed to ensure I don’t make it to the end without paying extra. Let’s be honest - those roadblocks mean that a) you’re not supposed to earn ac back and b) you’re encouraged to spend more ac - so the pass really isn’t completely truthful when it says it’s 1000 ac. It’s 1000 ac entry free, at least.

I really hope the devs make later challenges much more feasible. It’s not a challenge if it’s impossible, and if it’s impossible, there is absolutely no fun and nothing worthwhile about it, except unnecessary and undue stress.

You’re a joke if you genuinely think you can do the challenges that will come in later tomes. Good luck with the dcs! Good luck with the stars aligning!

Oh that’s when ps5 comes out!

  • @EJmurdermain said:

Well I think they did a "pretty good job" with all the new things in the patch. Competitive players get the lore, casuals get free pass for noob rewards. Win/Win

So you really think it’s fair to lock lore behind impossible challenges? As I said in an earlier post, there’s a difference between a challenge and a roadblock. Games like Dark Souls, Celeste, and Bloodborne are designed to be challenging and people love them. They’re fun and they respect the players’ time and dedication.

People hate things like the Mein Leben trophy in Wolfenstein 2 because it completely puts a kabosh on your hard work and asks the impossible of you - not only that, but it drains the fun out of a challenge because it does not respect you or your time.

This rift pass falls under the second category.

Also there are plenty of players interested in dbd and the lore but cannot play on a competitive level like your Otzes and Montos etc. and they literally won’t be able to do some of those challenges, be forced to give up or pay up. That is neither right nor consumer friendly.

The lore in the tome is separate from the prizes in the rift, and lets be honest...you can easily read online anything you dont unlock. Personally, I think it's setup pretty well so far. Ive only gotten to play abit today, so havent done many challenges yet but already have the majority of the first page of prizes unlocked in the rift. We have 68 more days to go and all the event serums are within the first 6 pages of rift challenges. Im holding off on buying the premium track atm, because Im currently broke and I wanna see how far I can get the rift unlocked before doing it.

People keep bringing up how hard some of the highest end challenges are, but I have a feeling...with 68 more days, plenty of ppl will end up finishing all 9 pages of rift rewards without even having to do alot of those challenges.

Are you aware that people actually don’t have 68 days for the pass since each tome is time locked? The fourth won’t be available until the end.

The only reason it seems like survivors dc more is because there is 4 of them. The dc rate is probably the same for both sides. Also killers will dc because their ruin got cleansed at the start of the match there is pettiness on both sides.

So you admit that survivors dc more because there ARE more of them. It’s not an illusion - survivors dc more. Period.

And I disagree they’re equal. Killers don’t dc every other game. Survivors do.

  • It’s because it’s not a free battle pass.

It’s a trial of the premium version.

“Look at what you COULD get if you fork over 1000+ auric cells! It’s not guaranteed but take your chances!”

  • @Incurable_BOFA said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/799723#Comment_799723

So that means killers are okay to dc?

idec if a killer dcs as long as it doesn’t affect me, but if it denies rift progress then it’s kind of annoying

Did I say that? No, I did not.

I’m just saying survivors are way more likely to dc and deny progression for killers and other survivors alike. Of course there are toxic killers. I know and have experienced this. But generally speaking, killers don’t dc unless the survivors go out of their way to make them miserable. Survivors dc literally because they are petty and salty and want to ruin the game for others.

  • Survivors dc way more than killers do. And most killers don’t dc unless the survivors are being particularly cruel.

  • @WINTERS said:

I was having fun with the first level of the Tome until I saw this... 😖 I don't think this is possible for me since I play solo. I don't play with NOED as killer and it seems so toxic. I don't think survivors will stay in the game... If I do that.

I'm happy that I decided to stay with the free rift and only pay when I was finished.

If all the tomes or whatever were like level 1, the battle pass absolutely would be reasonable. But in its current form? No way.

I think the problem is that when they said you would have the opportunity to earn back your 1000 AC that people assumed it would be easy for everyone to earn back all of their AC.

There was never any guarantee and of course they aren't going to make it super easy to get a full refund of your AC. That's just common sense. I get it everyone wants something for free, but seriously? Anyone that's played video games in the last decade knows that's not how this industry works.

Nobody is getting anything for free. You’re spending money on a pass - the pass should be feasible to complete. And the pass in it’s current state is absolutely not, not without spending additional auric cells.

Anyone who has played video games in the past decade should be smart enough to see how much games have gone from being actual games to being micro transaction casinos and live services by greedy companies who only see players as payers.

I feel genuinely sorry for you that you welcome such bold and greedy maneuvers to get you to hand over money for something you have absolutely no chance of even completing without spending additional money.

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/799470#Comment_799470

They dont want ALL people to complete the Rift. It is logical that you wont spend 10 Euros one-time and get every future Battle Pass free. I guess they are aiming for a percentage of Players who get it, and if it is too low, they can adjust the difficulty (or increase it, if it is too much). Like, if they aim for 10% who complete the Rift, and it will be 5%, they might lower the difficulty. But if 20% complete the Pass, they might make it harder for the next Archives.

While it is true that DBD is not F2P, it is kinda cheap. And you can get most of the Stuff for free, as long as you dont want to play specific Killers, you dont need to spend any more money. Perks appear in the Shrine, even from licensed Characters, and most Killers and Survivors can be bought via Shards. For Survivor, you only need the Basegame and DS, and you are fine. For Killer, you can get a lot with Shards.

Overall, I think people should just wait until the end of the Rift Period. Because then players know, how much they actually achieve. And if in doubt, everybody can buy the pass at the end, if they are happy with the Progression and what they got.

Negative reinforcement and making the rift only completable by a select few and/or shelling out money will literally only turn people away. I’m not going to waste my money on something that Bhvr clearly doesn’t want me to complete on my own, same with other players with enough self respect as players and consumers. If Bhvr really wants us to buy into the battle pass, which they do, they would want people to feel confident and positive about playing through it so we will want to keep playing the battle pass.

  • @Blackowt_9120 said:

They’re challenges for a reason, it’s expected for the harder ones that you bring a specific build- for example the noed one- bring noed, blood warden, bitter murmur, and maybe pwyf or stbfl and bring a killer with some map presence like spirit, nurse, billy, or Freddy

Challenges are still doable. It’s why people love Dark Souls but everyone hates the Mein Leben trophy in Wolfenstein 2.

These are not challenges. They are roadblocks.

  • @DeKillerKiller said:

Good thing I haven't spent my money on this Battlepass #########, because if it's this impossible I won't be spending a single cent on it.

I haven’t paid for it either, and will not if these “challenges” are still in play when the later levels are announced. They’re not challenges - they’re roadblocks disguised as challenges, like those disgusting mechanics you see in mobile games “sorry! you can’t play right now! but if you spend money, you can keep playing!”

  • @Hoodied said:

You can accomplish these challenges easily, they are not rigged

You just gotta get better at the challenges

Sweetie, you’re looking at the level 1 challenges. Level 4 has challenges like “sacrifice all 4 survivors in the basement,” “trap all 4 survivors as the Trapper in a single trial,” “safely unhook 3 survivors during the egc in a single trial,” and “sacrifice 3 survivors in the egc with noed in a single trial.”

You’re kidding yourself if you think these are actually feasible, especially with dcs being so common. Keep in mind level 4 only unlocks at the end of the rift pass.

  • “I only wait to make sure everyone gets out!”

Sure, Jan. I’m pretty sure everyone is safe if you’re all in the exit gate. And nobody is getting out at the very last second.

This literally happens every game. Just get out.

Well seeing as it's purely for BP and nothing else this time around I kind of expected they wouldn't protect the hooks.

It might be purely bp but it’s still bull that survivors have so many ways to screw the killer out of the event - both as a principle thing and as a “killers have no realistic way to do the same to survivors” thing.

Events should inspire holiday spirit NOT extra toxicity.

  • Apparently it’s true that survivors can sabo the hooks. What. The. Truck.

What is the purpose of this besides to encourage toxicity and animosity among the players?

    @Peanits

  • Killers are screwed with only 1 event hook. Swfs will find it and run away deliberately so the killer can never use it.

They body block you so you can't move in a certain direction.

Or they specifically try to lead the killer right to you, either directly or making loud noises to give away your exact position.

  • No.

Just because survivors have less (arguably - they need not invest in add ons AND they get into new matches much more quickly than killers, who must wait until all have perished or the last survivor chooses to leave) it does NOT mean killers have more.

On the contrary, as a low rank killer, I tend to score LESS than survivors who were higher and better (and, usually, less gracious) than me. When survivors dc, killers score lower too.

Both sides could use some bp buffs. Why for Entity’s sake does Plague earn so little when theoretically she should be raking in bp? Why no bp for recovering, wiggling, using Unbreakable etc.? Why don’t dcs just grant wglf and bbq their bp stack?

  • Hey! Those Myers are the Santas of Halloween - they’re giving you the spooky Halloween event that dbd is unfortunately delaying this year. I deliberately waited to prestige him near Halloween so I could use up my gateaus - a mix between my birthday and a trick or treat thing since I was eating up my good add ons.

When you see a Myers, you thank him and give him a hug.

  • I’m not sure if it’s a misunderstanding, willful ignorance, or a lack of reading comprehension, but there is absolutely a huge difference between what some people are clutching their pearls over and what I’m very clearly describing in the original post.

If you are in a chase, clearly you’re not hiding. If you’re fishing in chests, doing totems, saboing hooks, you’re not hiding and observant killers can hear you. It doesn’t take new and veteran players alike forever to start or find gens. Sure, newbies might be a little hesitant but again, they are miles away from players purposely hiding from the killer for upwards of a whole tv episode’s worth of time.

Holding the game hostage with no way for the killer to find you should be punished and work in the killer’s favor. Whispers is all well and good but 1) you need it on that killer 2) only tier 3 is useful 3) you can’t really predict that the game you’re about to play has survivors who are willing to test your patience for 20+ minutes.

  • Killer: Chainsaw boys, particularly Leatherface, because I can never escape Bubba and teammates don’t really know what to do. Honorable mention to iridescent Huntress because they always have a literal and figurative axe to grind.

Survivor: skin wise, it would have to be Nea and Claudette. Neas tend to be toxic af, Claudettes tend to rely on camo (and be toxic.) However, general rule is that the most annoying survivors are the ones that either hide while the only other survivor is forced to do gens, and the ones that deliberately hide and hold my game hostage.

  • I hate it when me and my friend want to play together, the lobby keeps kicking her out. I also dislike it when you FINALLY get into a game and the game just kicks you out without your bp. I never ever dc so this irks me.

  • Are you being rude and intentionally trying to make someone feel bad or ruin their fun?

If you answer yes, you’re being toxic.

  • @Mochan said:

If they give me the signal I suicide. If they don't I struggle.

"The signal" is teabagging by the way it means they've found the hatch.

You so vindictive man chill and learn to have a bigger heart.

I’m not vindictive, and I have seen the way people play this game (from both sides) and I am fairly certain I’m in the lawful good and kind/merciful category. As a survivor, I will make sure my teammates survive even if it results in my death. I will literally use my ds to save the other person. Heck, even sometimes I’ll let the killer hook me at the end if I sense they got bullied. As a killer, I will protect the survivor who got sandbagged and hunt the other down no matter the cost, and I am far more likely to show mercy to the survivor working on gens by their lonesome than the one hiding in a locker, waiting for the other to die.

I have two rules: don’t be rude and play fair. It’s not vindictive to expect the other survivor to TRY when it’s perfectly obvious it’s in their power to do so.

Generally, if I see someone teabag on the hatch, I’ll purposely stick it to the end - the only exception being if I know they played well and had my back earlier in the match. Like Jeffs. Jeffs are usually good eggs who always try their best.

  • The perk colors don’t even make sense anymore. Yellow is literally only used for incomplete perks, and there is no discernible difference between green and purple.

I would like category options too! Exhaustion perks, aura/location perks, bp perks, hex perks, speed/cool down perks, misc.

It would also be nice to customize the colors, as a console user.

  • @OswinOsgood said:

You could try running kindred so the survivors can see if the killer is near you AND see that non of them are moving their butts to save you lol its a decent solo play perk tbh. But only solo play obvs.

I guarantee that dying on hook or losing a state WITH kindred is 10x more infuriating and just spoils the game more. I know from experience. It’s not a fail safe perk.

  • It has nothing to do with console. Find it quite funny how pc users MUST think it HAS to do with console if something goes wrong. Maybe it has to do with the rift and maybe they were fixing it to be more doable.

1 … 3 4 5 6 7 … 22
