  • I enjoy versing a killer I have to actually respect. I do understand the criticism with spirit though

  • I mean... I was having fun. I doubt the survivors had quite as much fun since they failed about 200 skill checks within 10 minutes while going up against a rank 1 killer. Seems like they need to adjust the settings so that no red rank/experienced killer is ever facing any survivor under rank 13 (SWF aside)

  • Ideally, it would be much better if there would either be console optimization, or consoles would be given the option to turn down graphical settings so that you never have to deal with the slideshow scenario to begin with...that's frustrating

  • I can't stand how dark autohaven maps are on console. But they do look pretty

  • I usually only dodge a lobby if there's a blendette (don't feel like playing against invisible survivors), or a legacy cosmetic. The latter is either a hacker or someone with 20 bajillion hours in the game. Not a fun time either way

I don't really blame anyone that dodges keys or a bunch of items, though

  • Pretty much just doing a minimum 1 match per day of killer and survivor for the 300 bonus exp, then doing rift challenges. Otherwise, it's just an endless grind. Based on time played, not performance (aside from the tiny tiny amount you get from emblems)

I'd imagine killer would earn fragments slightly faster since queue times are shorter 24/7, so it's less time spent in queues

  • Unfortunately, he just got his rework a few months ago, so he's probably not going to get any treatment for another year or two. Rework did help him to the point where he's better than before, but not by all that much. I don't think he's the worst, but he's probably still bottom 5ish. Double tonic does work great at most loops (if the survivor isn't smart enough to just run away to the next loop)

  • Best - Old Billy :(

Worst - Twins. Everything I could say has probably already been said 100 times before

  • Ruin + pop is still the best gen defense perk combo imo. Ruin + undying usually isn't worth running anymore. Devour hope can be fun but usually gets broken before you get any value out of it. All other hex perks are varying degrees of... not great

  • Can we add a 4th difficulty rating just for him - Miserable

  • I really don't understand the arguments that a Mr. X skin couldn't work because Nemmy has a tentacle and Mr. X doesn't. Let's look at some other legendary skins that seemingly wouldn't make sense:

    • The Look-see skin for doctor. Look-see does not shock people at all or laugh at them. He also doesn't ever use a giant electric wrench
    • The Minotaur skin for Oni still uses the japanese club thing
    • The Krampus skin for trapper. Does Krampus set up bear traps? Genuine question but I don't think so

Ok, I guess I only really had 3 examples, but it's enough. None of this ######### needs to make canonical sense, it's a ######### game

  • I'm biased, but I think A tier is right around where he belongs. Not S tier, as he can still get dumpstered by a good SWF slamming gens, unfortunately

But otherwise, if played well, he can be a monster in chase. The nerf/rework was annoying but 90% of the time you can still force a lose/lose situation for survivors by bodyblocking pallets/windows, it just means it takes slightly longer to pull off due to the new cooldown

It can't be that, I've play 4 games now and thats all I've been doing... So its gotta be something else.

Just checked the archives again - my bad, think I mixed this up with the other challenge that was for getting 4 survivors to max infection. I agree with TragicSolitude, it's probably just getting 6 hits with corrupt purge and that's a typo in the description. You could bring double apple addons to make that pretty easy

  • I think you can do this by just getting survivors to full infection 6 times. So that will require you to infect all 4, have at least 2 cleanse, and then re-infect those 2. Might want to bring thanatophobia if you have it, since that will encourage cleansing

  • This is pretty much the first chapter for me that I'm not dreading the grind, but that's because I haven't liked any new killers since pyramid head, so I have about 3 million BP saved with old and current archive challenges from the past year. Won't be as much of a pain in the ass when I can circumvent the 1 million BP cap and essentially go into the new chapter with 4x that. Gunna P3 Nemmy pretty quick. Probably gunna pick up Jill and Leon but I never prestige survivors because it just feels like way too much work

That said, the grind on this game is comical. They really need to just make it so you can select which perks you want to buy from the bloodweb for 50k BP or something. Or let you disable a set amount of perks you never want to see (monstrous shrine, looking at you). Shouldn't have to spend 2 million extra BP to get a handful of perks on top of the insane grind of just getting to lvl 50 and prestiging

  • On the one hand... I love it for the visuals and the fidelity to RE2

On the other hand... It looks like an absolute nightmare to navigate for ALL players. Midwich 2.0

I do feel like the happy middle ground here is just cutting it in halves or thirds and making multiple maps out of it. And maybe having some additional wall breaks for the more labyrinthian areas

  • PS Plus free game way back in the day

  • Maybe not toxic, but if someone last second switches to a survivor with a key, or multiple people switch to the same survivor to make things confusing...

Well, I'm not giving anyone hatch that game. I don't think it calls for anything more than that unless they're being obnoxious in game too

just look at him as much as possible and one day it will work.

Sooner or later, it'll have to work. My favorite is when I just turn my character around to look directly into his eyes and it still doesn't break him out until I'm exposed

  • It's more of a... kinda for me

    Basically the only bonuses are:

    • If you P3 immediately, you won't waste a metric shitload of BP compared to not doing that but later deciding that you want to
    • For licensed characters, the prestige cosmetics are generally the only free ones

Aaaaand that's pretty much it. I P3 all the killers I plan on playing a lot now, and immediately P3 any new ones, but any other killers or survivors are at most getting to lvl 50 for me

  • I've played against roughly 50 ghostfaces and I still have absolutely no idea how the ######### you're supposed to break him out of stealth. It seems to depend less on what you do and more on the day of the week. Drives me bonkers

  • I didn't know I wanted a dead space chapter until you listed that option. Man, I would kill for a remaster of the first 2 games

it was 100% unnecessary... but that doesnt change it not doing anything.

Addons just dont apply to a killer's strength. Are most of his terrible now, yes, does that make his basekit worse? no

I think the big exception there is feathering. Overheat doesn't do a whole lot if you aren't feathering, but it adds a massive penalty if you are doing it. A good billy used to be able to feather the chainsaw for an indefinite amount of time until they lined up a good backrev or lined up a good curve/got the survivor cornered in a favorable position. Adding a punishment to feathering is a pretty big basekit nerf because it removes a lot of options for a good player. You can still feather, but you're going to build up overheat very quickly

Otherwise, I would agree. Feathering aside, overheat pretty much just adds a larger penalty to the engravings and sometimes punishes you if you repeatedly miss

  • I miss old billy too. If I could choose to revert just one change bhvr made, it would be his rework. He kinda got the nurse treatment and then some

  • Up to red ranks, yes, you can pretty much play a little more chill and give hatch every game and still progress

Once in red ranks, if you're trying to get to rank one, giving hatch or playing more casually will probably mean safety pips or sometimes depips, unfortunately

I'd hazard a guess that a lot of the killers in red ranks though start out a game session playing casually, then get punished for it by getting stomped into the dirt by a good team slamming out all the gens in 4 minutes, so they stop playing casually. That's pretty much how the game goes. If both sides are playing casually, it's fun. If only one side is playing casual, it's miserable for that side

  • Usually the only time I camp is endgame. If I'm tunneling someone, they either:

A - 59 second locker DSed me after I chased and hooked another survivor already. Then it's "oh no... now you're actually being tunneled. If only you still had a perk that was supposed to prevent this..."

B - Borrowed time body blocking is a good way to ask for death. I was going for the unhooker but now you've got my attention

  • I'd be 100% on board with pretty much any option for killer and survivor, but I think a lot of people are going to (at least initially) be disappointed if it's not Nemmy or Mr. X for killer. Pyramid Head was probably the most iconic monster from the Silent Hill series, so it would be weird if the RE chapter had a much less iconic character as the killer

  • I feel like he's somewhere between C and B but I'm leaning towards B now. Buffs made him feel great to play and opened up a lot of new options for him. For the first time in a long time, he actually feels like he's in a pretty decent spot right now

love that build also, but this is a more general build. Where I can slap what ever add-on I want to fit my mood

Gotcha. I would definitely run with sloppy, in that case. You'll always get some degree of value out of it with an M1 killer, so it's a good fit on wraith

  • @Fog_King said:

Oh, I didn't see that either. I was between choosing that challenge and the healing survivors one and since I was playing survivor, I chose the healing because I thought I could do the other as killer too. Thanks for pointing this out.

No problem, glad to know I wasn't the only one thinking that. I was planning to do the same thing and leave that challenge for a killer match

    @QwQw said:

That's kinda dumb, considering the glyph challenges from last rift worked for both sides.

Yeah, I think this one might just be unique to survivor since it gives you blindness or oblivious for a set amount of time. I wish they would change the icon for the challenge to make it look different from the glyph challenges in the last tome

  • @Brokenbones said:

Sloppy Butcher is the better option and you'll get more value out of it if you stick to your hit and run style

Alternatively, you can use Thana and use the 'Blind Warrior - White' addon which will make it so anyone you hit after briefly after uncloaking becomes mangled, which is sloppy butcher in addon form

Both solid options, but Sloppy is better overall if you ask me!

I second that. I love running bone clapper and blind warrior for the mostly free sloppy butcher. OP, you can essentially run both perks by running that add-on plus thana. The only downsides are that you have to do an out of cloak hit to apply the mangled status with the add-on, and (I think?) you don't get the more frequent blood pools, but that's not the main point of sloppy butcher anyways

But yeah, if only one option is available for whatever reason, sloppy is better

  • Haven't played the new update yet but I love the changes. Old object wasn't the strongest thing in the game but it was definitely up there in terms of how much fun it sucked out of playing killer. Feels like they made it much less annoying to play against without completely gutting it, so I'm very happy with the changes on paper

  • THIS! I've tried playing console blight and kept wondering what I'm doing wrong when I get counterplayed 100% of the time by survivors taking one step behind a tree. My sensitivity is high enough that I can do a full 360 swing with nurse but with those same settings, blight feels capped at 45 degrees, if that. I wonder if that'll ever get fixed

  • Lots of bug fixes to start with, as she probably has more bugs than any other killer. Nurse is kind of tough because obviously she's difficult to balance, but the rework + bugs made her kind of miserable to play. She's one of the only killers you can play right now where you can 4k with her just fine but still feel exhausted by the end of the match

So really, anything that can bring back some of the fun factor to her without making her any more oppressive for survivors would be great. I'm not sure how to actually accomplish that in reality. Making it so that you don't lose a partially charged blink if you start blinking too early would be a good start

  • @DawnMad said:

It's a perk that gives a free kill at the end of the game for minimal effort. If every other perk was as good as it any killer with 4 perks would get a 4k consistently.

You are saying survivors spent probably 2 generators worth of time finding and doing totems to prevent a perk that the killer might not even have? That sounds like a lot of value to me.

Right, that's the one scenario where someone or all survivors spend 1-2 gens total of time totem hunting. Gens are still fast enough that an extra 1-2 gens worth of time is really not a problem most of the time. Pop, ruin, and arguably even sloppy butcher each provide as much if not more slowdown and aren't as reliant on the survivor's actions, so they're giving much more reliable slowdown

Then there's also the scenario where you can do zero totems all game, and pop just the NOED one at the end. If you don't want to spend the time on totems, you can just make a mental note of where some are in case you need to check them again in endgame. Most are right out in the open next to gens, so you don't even need to go out of your way to spot them. Worst case scenario, if the survivors are unlucky and the killer immediately gets a down + hook close to the totem, then yeah, that's probably a free kill and the survivors should leave. In my experience, the majority of the time, there's going to be distance between the killer and the totem, so they're only going to get roughly 1-2 insta-downs out of NOED before it gets deactivated. And in that scenario, the killer has to play most of the match with 3 perks to potentially have that advantage at the end, and NOED provides zero slowdown prior to endgame

I do get that it can be annoying, and a rework to solve that aspect of it would be great, but there are plenty of objectively stronger perks for most killers

  • Solo is a mixed bag. Some games are pretty fun. Some games you get hard tunneled out of existence because a fellow survivor unhooks without BT and immediately activates their stealth camouflage. Other games, you don't make it a foot away from the hook because you got farmed without BT. Other games, you run the killer for 5 minutes, then as you go down, you see the 3 yellow auras of your teammates hiding behind a bush in the corner of the map

If you're seeing the pattern, usually solo isn't miserable because of the killer. It's usually miserable because of the teammates. I'd love for SWF/Solo/Killer to be balanced equally, and I do think SWF is currently a bit busted, but I do also understand why people would want to play SWF when solo can be a bit maddening

He'd fit better for Hillbilly. The way he runs works better on Hillbilly and the can replace Billy's scream with Salvador's.

Fair point, it's been awhile since I've played RE4 so I can't really remember how he moves. That would really be nice if the skins replaced the voice of the character as well but based on the legendary skins already in the game, it seems like that would probably be overlooked. Which sucks, because that would be really cool to replace the scream

Completely agree, I'm part of the crazy team that hopes they could bring in 2 survivors and 2 killers this chapter because of just how damn huge the Resident Evil franchise is.

Hell yes, I would throw money at BHVR if they did that

  • Just had a game today where I did all 5 bones before the gates were powered and the killer got absolutely zero value out of NOED. It can be deactivated completely before getting any use, or it can be deactivated with one totem at the endgame. I get why it's frustrating if you get hit by it, but there kind of needs to be some punishment to only slamming gens. Totems are the secondary objective, and NOED is pretty much the only thing that keeps it that way. Small game and detective's hunch make totem hunting pretty simple

All that said, NOED could probably use a little bit of a rework to make it less frustrating to play against (not a buff or nerf, just changing how it works a bit)

  • @Cornpopers_Evan said:

Has and always will be Nemesis! Will love basically anything that comes with the chapter though.

The only TWO options that would slightly disappoint me is if it's Dr. Salvador, he seems better as a legendary skin for one of the chainsaw bros and, a zombie... just a regular old, run of the mill zombie. I could see lots of skins happening for a zombie and some sort of infection mechanic for a power but, that's about it. Plus, imho, RE was never just about zombies, they're certainly there but the other monsters and BOW's have stood out far better then the common undead.

Excellent point, dr. salvador skin for bubba would be amazing. I will also be on board with pretty much any killer they bring, regular zombies aside. I really wish they could manage adding multiple killers for this chapter because there are so many good options

  • Jeff. And then instead of a killer, a 2nd helping of Jeff lore

  • Depressing is the best word to describe current billy. 90% of the community seemed to agree that insta-saw was BS, but otherwise, billy was the gold standard for balance in DBD. Then overheat was added to punish feathering and add further downsides to engravings. And his FOV was #########. And his animations were #########. And all of his other add-ons turned to garbage, maybe with the exception of lopro chains

Curving and feathering took a lot of skill to pull off, and was already punishing on its own right before the changes. BHVR found a way to nerf all the high skill stuff with billy and leave him so that backrevving, his most braindead strategy, is pretty much your best option with him much of the time.

There's a good reason you hardly ever see a billy anymore. All the fun and skillful play has been removed from him. Want mobility? Blight's way better. Want insta-downs? Bubba is so much easier to play and so much less punishing. Want mobility and insta-down? Oni is just a much better version of the same killer. It used to be debatable before, but Oni is easily the stronger killer now. Billy used to be the best console killer, but if Oni is considered A tier by the community in general, you can't say billy should be even close to the same level anymore. He belongs in B or C tier

  • I'd love for either this, or making it so that a survivor stopping regression takes as long as a killer kicking a gen. Kind of BS that a survivor can do a 1 frame animation mid chase to stop regression when a killer needs 2-3 seconds to kick

  • I'd be kind of cool with the husk just being removed entirely. Seeing spirit vanish all of the sudden would give an indication to the survivors that she's just started phasing, and would add some suspense. You'd probably have to give her a small buff to duration and move speed to compensate but that would remove the current major complaint with her. Since collision has already been removed during phase walking, and a vault animation was added. And prayer beads nerfed.

  • Ey, welcome! The fact that you're getting paired with purple ranks when you're at rank 16 is kind of infuriating. I am at red ranks and still often getting a mix of purple and green survivors for my matches. You should not be facing the same level of survivors after playing for a week or 2, sorry you've had to deal with that. If you don't mind me asking, what killers are you playing? For the most part, once you're experienced with killer, you can do pretty well with most of them at any rank, but when you're just starting off, you're going to have a much easier time if you play a stronger killer, as they have a much larger margin of error to them. Spirit, Freddy, Pyramid Head, Oni, Doctor, and Leatherface would probably be good options for killers that aren't super difficult to use but have a lot of strong potential to them

    Some other quick tips:

    • If you can, pick up leatherface and get his teachable BBQ and Chili. Massively massively reduces the grind, and it's a pretty good perk to run on almost every killer. Getting perks unlocked on your killers will make a gigantic improvement to how well you can do in any given match, and BBQ will make that happen twice as fast
    • Slowdown perks will really help you out a lot, and are borderline necessary in a lot of games. Sloppy Butcher is one that is unlocked by default, so that's worth running. Corrupt intervention (plague), pop goes the weasel (clown), hex ruin (hag) are all good alternative options. If you're interested in those characters, they're worth buying just to unlock those perks alone. At red ranks, it generally feels mandatory to run 2-3 slowdown perks. And if you're struggling with matches, those are the perks that are probably going to help the most
    • Easier said than done, but if you can, try to focus more on making small improvements as a killer rather than the result of the match. Eventually, you will be able to crack some skulls
  • Dude, I would kill for this. Comp stomping would help much of the playerbase blow off steam after a bad match, rather than bringing OP stuff into the next match

The bare minimum they should do is at least have a killer training area with no bots so you can practice killer powers. There's no way that could cause any problems. Empty map, just the killer running around practicing. But if mobile can make it work decently with bots, why can't the main game do it too?

  • Honestly, for as much ######### as we give the devs, the game IS actually decently balanced, especially when compared to most other asymmetrical games.

That said, I'd say it's still in favor of survivors (or SWF, at the very least). There are many atrociously imbalanced maps, but more that favor survivor than killer. And keys are still horseshit. Otherwise, balance is currently not in terrible shape imo. Much much better than it has been in the past, at least

  • I'd love that but I doubt bhvr is capable of putting together 2 working killers in the timeframe for a chapter. That said, if they somehow miraculously did 2 or 3 killers on this chapter, I would insta-buy the top 3 poll choices here

  • I'd say Demo for fun factor, and because he's licensed. Then if you can, use shards later for Plague, because her teachables are pretty much the best set in the game
