  • Along with what you've said, I think another major issue are these "fog whisperers". I don't know how much these streamers paid to get included but it's a terrible set up. I think they became a thing sometime in 2018. Since then the buffs, nerfs, reworks, abandoning holiday themed events, have mostly occurred since then. I don't know if Monto is one of them, but he's definitely part of the community problem. He has a huge following but is just as toxic of a player as Ochido was.

Hybridpanda, bless him he's had a really tough year and I'm glad to see him begin recovering, was instrumental in getting the original Mettle of Man nerfed. He certainly wasn't alone but if you go back and watch his videos from April-June 2019 he makes constant complaints about it while also showcasing it wasn't as strong as some thought it was.

The devs aren't listening to the 500, 1,000, 2,000 or 5,000 hour regular players. They seem to be listening to their hand picked streamers and casual players.

Solo Survivor console main here. I don't think BBQ is OP. Only time it really hinders teams is when there are Survivors who are new or unaware of how to handle BBQ. You can easily counter or bait Killers who rely too much on BBQ tracking. Quite fun actually, watching them look around in a spot you baited them to (this also buys Survivors gen time)! Def annoying though when I have teammates who repeatedly get wrecked cus they don't know what's going on, but what can ya do 💁‍♂️ ...oblivious players are oblivious, they'll learn.

"You can easily counter or bait Killers who rely too much on BBQ tracking."

From what I've seen it's all of them that use it. The excuse is always "I only use it for bloodpoints". It might be true if they weren't also using Nurse's Calling or other aura reading perks and add ons.

  • A lot of killer add ons have ridiculous power. Aura reading, one hit down, completely silent. You can tell by some play styles of killers that there's no way they'd get a 4k without using any of that.

  • @Trashmaster said:

Just stop playing solo and do gens faster

I really can't stand gamers like you. No value, no substance, all snark.

  • I tried using Open Handed because I thought, "that's 22 meters!". It did nothing. I only played 4 matches with it and 3 were outdoor, wide open maps and the other was Hawkins which I thought would work.

    It didn't.

This perk definitely needs a buff and I like the idea of increasing wiggle speed.

  • The only time I see Devour Hope work to its full potential is on a map where it's difficult to find totems. In my experience that's been Lery's, Midwich, Sometimes Haddonfield, Gideon, and Hawkins. Even with the poorly re-designed version of Autohaven and MacMillian they're still not hard to find.

  • @hello_hru said:

I disagree. Stridor is a useless perk on basically anyone else but Spirit whereas Iron Will, while strongest against Spirit, is still good across the board. The Stridor/Iron Will interaction is fine, seriously.

No, it's not. Statistics aren't the point either. There should no perk on either side that completely negates another.

The issue, as is brought up everytime, is that any mechanic to try and punish killers for face camping is abused by survivors to get easy saves and punish killers for defending a hook. They tried such things in ptb, and survivors just abused it.

The issue is no matter how much you are angry I am by the hook, it doesn't change the fact that I see the claudette in the bush and don't care about the Meg clicking their flashlight and tea bagging by the killer shed.

Its the same when survivors 3 gen themselves and think I'll follow them when they obviously let me hit them so they can sprint burst to the side of the map without gens. I'm not that stupid, I'm not throwing the game so you can loop me around the shack. It's not camping, it's just not throwing the game.

I don't think the ptb is reliable at all. So many changes get approved when the only real way to test anything is in real time.

  • The only thing I disagree with is the game still leaning to the survivor side. They've removed tiles, made maps smaller, and have a lot of aura reading perks and add ons.

I do agree that BVHR has become extremely lazy in how they're approaching the game for the last 2 years probably. Once they started listening to these moronic "fog whisperers", the quality of the game and the events has gone down. In the case of the latter it's disappeared completely.

  • Great write up and analysis! 3+ year solo survivor here as well and there's no lies or misinformation to be told here. To piggyback on a couple of things: red rank survivors immediately dropping pallets is almost shocking. Especially since it's not always someone with 50 hours or less in game.

Killers really think the "moonwalking" works and they end up wasting so much time trying to out mind game in a chase instead of taking the path of least resistance. I've witnessed too many killers outsmart themselves.

The add ons and perks chart almost hurts my soul. After a match a wraith player in the post chat said people don't realize how strong wraith can be. It's worth mentioning that he had 3 aura reading perks and aura reading add ons. Including being able to see survivors within 16 meters while being cloaked. Between that, bbq, i'm all ears and tinkerer the work was done for them. If I knew where the killer was every second of a match I'd be pretty unstoppable too.

I'd be cool with this, but I really think it would be far down the road priority wise.

I can also see survs roasting each other over chase or gen times and such. Kinda glad I'm on console much harder to send these to each other.

They're going to do that anyway because, even though I'm a solo survivor main, they're never going to be happy. I've escaped matches when the hooked survivor is on the other side of the map. I don't have borrowed time so it's just a 1 for 1. Plus if I get downed the killer is going after the other one. They'll complain anyway.

I've also had matches where I just couldn't get a rescue or even heal but did 3 or 4 gens and a chase or two but that doesn't yield a lot of points and they'll complain about that too.

  • I'm sorry it's been a tough experience for you. I don't play killer much anymore because of things like you mentioned. Unfortunately, the gaming community, which can have great people in it, is marred by immature, selfish, unintelligent people who only enjoy being useless.

  • I don't know how or when it started but I think making Stridor completely cancel out Iron Will is one of the most egregious things the devs and community have done.

  • @Altarf said:

It's not really his hitbox, it's dedicated servers. Plus, if Victor didn't have a generous hitbox, he'd be useless. Remember, one missed pounce and he dies, if the survivor has even decent reactions. It'd be way too punishing for what is already not a particularly strong killer.

It should be acquired skill to properly use Victor. Not a gift because of dedicated servers. Any killer using their power should be a high risk/reward. It used to be that way for the doctor until more casual players and streamers complained about it.

  • I was told that bbq & chili is the only perk preventing face camping. Anyway, bullshit aside, Kindred is a must. More than it ever was before. I don't play with SWF teams but even they use it a lot more now. The information is too valuable. If it's a killer that's not viable without bbq, you'll see them coming. A face camper, you can keep working on gens or try a rescue with borrowed time.

  • Gamers can be a pretty immature, selfish, obnoxious bunch. If you remove one thing, they'll figure something else out. A lot of these people exist to be a nuisance and nothing more. Invariably these are the types that have profiles with a description that reads, "LeAvE uR sALt BeLOw"

  • This makes me think there should be a further customization option for characters. I've wanted to pair David's hard part hair style from the threadbare thirties with the beard.

  • Are you doing an SWF team with any of those other players? If so that could explain the disparity.

  • On some maps that gates are so close to each other that a killer can just stand in one place and wait so I think it's a good idea and speeds up the end game even more.

  • It shouldn't regress. It should stay exactly where it was progressed for only the survivor attempting to cleanse it.

  • On her original design the phase walk was directional. At the very least you could get a small head start on a chase. With Stridor the survivor is always at a huge disadvantage anyway. From what I recall the usual whining from "fog whisperers" and casual players got that nixed.

  • @ReverseVelocity said:

Just straight up roll back the rework and tweak him from there. He was much more interesting in his pre-rework state.

The first week of his release he was just fine. Casual players and streamers complained quite a bit. The devs put a lot of stock into what the "fog whisperers" have to say so they immediately bowed down to them. The original Freddy design lasted ONE WEEK! In hindsight I'm surprised the original Mettle of Man lasted one month.

  • @bkn said:

Billy + Nurse were my mains... both got ruined and are the definition of anti-fun.

And all that because bhrv didn´t listen to the people that spend xk hours playing these characters, but choose to listen to people that never played these killers or killer at all.

The useless (yes, USELESS) opinion of survivor mains, and basement chest looting casual gamers destroyed the game even further, and kept the balance of this game 1 sided.

Now its to late... You deserve the tunneling noed spirits you face every game. You wanted it that way, so deal with it.

I've played against Spirits without the ridiculous add ons and Stridor and it's nowhere near as difficult. Only bbq saves them, as it does most killers. Oh wait, that's just for bloodpoints...

Why not change the "struggle" phase of being hooked to a series of skill checks like the cages. Then you aren't mashing the button.

That's the best idea I've seen. There's a precedent so there's no reason to not change it.

Not all SWF's are toxic. I play in a swf and none of us go out of our way to upset the killer, and we don't escape every game. To assume that every swf is toxic is a very narrow assumption.

2500 hours says otherwise. You are correct in that it's not EVERY swf team because that would be statistically impossible. It's still prevalent enough that I think it should go away.

    ..yeah.

    SWFs play to entertain themselves.

    With their video game.

    It's kind of the point.

Don't be pedantic. You know exactly what I'm talking about. Hook diving without borrowed time, using keys with 3 or 4 people left, trying to work with the killer or leave an "offering" early to try and get the hatch.

  • @Katie_met said:

No one would want to willingly play against a swf so therefore swf groups would never find a game.

That's the idea. SWF play to only entertain themselves. They're a nuisance for solo survivors too. This game isn't going to die because teenagers and twenty somethings can't make life miserable for other people.

  • @Rockotheawesomepug said:

There's several maps I would want to see actually.

A church with a graveyard would be really cool imo.

If they ever did an Alien or Dead Space dlc, It would be awesome to be in a spaceship. (I really want the ubermorph and the USG Ishumura)

An abandoned carnival would be awesome, having a giant ferris wheel, all sorts of buildings to go into or just run around. Think of the L4D2 3rd level on Dark Carnival.

Some sort of map (maybe the cabin from Ash VS The Evil Dead) with a blood moon so it gives a bit of a red tint

It would be terrifying to be in a catacombs or in the sewers

Being at some sort of camping area would be great! (Could be Camp Crystal Lake for Friday the 13th DLC)

A subway system (preferably) or maybe a map with a train on it.

Ill stop here since I could go on for days haha

I wouldn't get my hopes up for Friday the 13th branded anything but I do like your idea of a camp on a lake. It's the most cliche horror location and it's absent. I also really love the spaceship idea too. I hope BVHR really starts getting more maps and locations that aren't variations of the same ones.

  • I was actually about to post this exact same topic! I was running distortion with quick and quiet and I realized I'm all ears is being used a lot more frequently now. This killer was using bbq, infectious fright, and I'm all ears. Seems like most of the work is done for you at that point. All 3 tokens were consumed in the first 3 minutes of the match. One hook and one chase that covered some distance. It needs 4 or more tokens or as another suggested, a way to earn more.

  • @gibblywibblywoo said:

I always wanted a shopping mall map but I'd want it to be open, like a seating/food court area. Not like the other indoors maps and all their LOS breakers.

That would be a great Dawn of the Dead inspired map! Cool idea!

  • @Mooks said:

How do you know they tunneled you because of the key?

maybe the item was irrelevant for the killer. Tunneling is a valid and (sadly) very strong strategy, that almost always is beneficial for the killer if the tunneled one is not the strongest looper.

edit: there is also a key rework planned and coming which may nullify the need for visual differences for keys

"Tunneling is a valid and...very strong strategy"

In purple and red ranks this is categorically false. All that does is give three survivors who haven't been hooked plenty of time to do gens.

  • @Healthore77992 said:

If anything they need a MASSIVE buff.

I don't think that's going to do anything either. I've been playing since December 2016 and I've never seen a new release killer used less than the twins. They're not fun to use and they're not fun to play against.

  • The only thing about undying that needs to change is aura reading. There are so many aura reading perks and add ons for killers that, with the right combination, all the work is done for them. Otherwise I don't see a problem with using them together.

  • I use Calm Spirit a lot. More killers use infectious fright and when you get a doctor you feel godly with it. With Iron Will it makes losing the killer in some spots easier because they can't track the direction of the scream and obviously can't hear you in pain, unless they have Stridor, (which is bullshit). I never used it before the buff although I think they should allow it to prevent coughing and gagging again.

  • The aura reading in Undying definitely needs to go. With Decisive Strike, I think it should become unavailable if a survivor jumps in a locker. I do think it's an issue, like Borrowed Time, that killers just wait out the timer. I'm not sure how to prevent that other than pausing the timers if you're in a chase but I think that might make them stronger.

  • @AnnoyedAtTheGame said:

Well... would you want to play as the killer if all you get is.

    Swf groups with comms.

    Killer nerfs.

    Survivor buffs

    T bagged through the game.

    Etc etc etc and so.

I don't think most players want to play killer because it's always a survivor sided game. The killer hardly gets a good game anymore.

Take for example my last game.

3 gens popped before I even hooked 1 survivor. 0 kills in the game.

Is that fun for the killer? No it is not.

    Why? Unfair matchmaking again.

    "SWF groups with comms"

THAT is the single biggest reason I began playing killer much less than I used to. For the first 2 years I had the game it was 60/40 with 40 being killer. After a while it just wasn't fun. I usually play killer 3 or 4 times a season now and it's just for dailies and maybe some rift challenges.

I'd be more inclined to play killer now if there was a bot system similar to what Friday the 13th has. It's not going to make anyone great but I wouldn't mind getting a warm and fuzzy with blight before going against swf teams.

BBQ is balanced, just because something is meta doesn't mean it's not balanced.

BBQ is almost in every match. Killers really aren't viable without it. I always hear "it's for the bloodpoints" and yet, they often have some other aura reading perks and add ons. At best it's half true. It's very rare at red ranks to a see a build that doesn't any combination of bbq, nurse's, ruin, undying, infectious fright, and tinkerer. Since they maps some maps smaller, clowns can cover the distance using bbq and tinkerer.

I'm not saying the perk isn't balanced, per se, but I'd be interested to see how much use it would still get by removing the aura reading and bonus at different times.

  • @smart212 said:

But it is better we will not see survivor that bring DS and Dead Hard or Sprint Burst and DS simultaneously. They must choose perk wisely.

That's actually a pretty good idea. I don't like killers stacking the deck in their favor so it should swing the other way too.

  • @Mastermind said:

Grabs are already about as inconsistent as they can be. And even if you get grabbed, I believe you still get a DS check. If anything, it should be easier to grab survivors when they're doing stuff like gens, unhooks and vaults.

How about a feature where you hold a button for a certain length of time and the game wins itself for you?

  • @lowiq said:

The perk basically forces you to walk everywhere to use effectively. And if you 99 it then you can't do any stationary action such as dropping a pallet or working on a gen without getting it to 100%.

Yeah who runs around with it at 99? If anyone does that's a stupid move. The balance comes from walking everywhere like you said. It can be a huge detriment to the team if you're tactical in choosing when to run.

  • @PNgamer said:

slug there slug there. Survivors have enough perks and counterplay for it

While that's true, it's not reasonable to always run those builds in the hopes you'll get a slugging killer for it.

  • I think it's a good idea. Players should realize that SWF can be a big problem for solos too.

mate i played in tournies, skill cap im 1 of the world best dbd players. so what u just said is invalid because u havent read what i have wrote. the game is balanced around swfs. u clearly didnt met tourny meta killers. im talking about playing solo and about the bugs and latency issues.

overall its insanely killer sided. like i said unless u face the best teams then ye its balanced around the best vs best. but average killers can easily destroy average solos. get it?

    "mate I played in tournies"

    No, no you didn't.

Yes winning, getting kill streaks, and making flashy plays isn’t the reason I buy CoD.

It’s to “ruin someone’s day” and be an “online bully” when the other player is literally buying it for the exact same reason I do and goes into each game knowing they can either win or lose.

You act like people are being forced into playing video games or something.

Sounds like you're exactly the type of person they're talking about. Sportsmanship be damned as long you're entertained by your own nonsense.

  • I don't think the grunts of pain should change. That's the risk you take not using Iron Will. The big problem is Stridor. I don't know what carrot stick made the suggestion and what bumbling fool at BVHR gave it a greenlight to completely negate Iron Will. There's plenty of perks on both sides that, if conditions aren't optimal, are useless.

When I use Calm Spirit and Iron Will in tandem I can often get the killer off my tail. Like any build, when you use it long enough it gets boring.

  • The original Freddy design, the one that lasted week at the end of September 2017 was fine the way he was. Streamers and casual players complained nonstop instead of learning how to counter created this mess.

  • Friday the 13th, for all its problems, managed to get bots in the game. While obviously not as difficult as human opponents, it allows you to try out different moves, approaches, kills, etc. I can't believe they still won't consider doing that.
