Keys only work if enough gens are done... If you have a bunch of people escaping by hatch that means you were already losing badly. And they are very rare or ultra rare.
Dude this comment is completely bonkers.
2 people left with 2 gens is a win for killer, period. There's no way a decent killer loses in this scenario without keys involved.
3 people left with 1 gen is a tossup, but a killer could still bring that back. Keys completely deny that.
Keys autowin endgame collapse scenarios. That's not too healthy either but I could live with that.
The only moment when keys aren't problematic is when all survivors escape through hatch when the gates are powered, because if the game got to that point kills should be hard to secure. But other than that they're a ridiculous item that has no place in this game.
Keys should have a longer animation to open hatch and hatch should close after one person gets through it. That would make them somewhat bearable.
But don't pretend killers need to be "losing badly" for keys to be a problem. Generally it;s the opposite. If enough survivors have died for hatch to spawn with 2 gens left the killer has the upper hand, as they should in this case, period.
Moris are even more ridiculous and require less effort to use but this is not the topic of this discussion so w/e

All games with DC penalties are like this. It doesn't care whether you intentionally disconnected or your game crash. All it knows is you're no longer in the game and to punish you. From what I can tell there's no way to code the game so it knows the difference cause literally every game I've played with DC penalties is this way.
Best thing I can tell you is to just play on Xbox cause it's never crashed on me. Only time I've disconnected is when my WiFi drops out.
Also I don't feel like they should have DC penalties at all. They've gone all this time without them so why implement them now?
Yes, I know that the game can't tell the difference. What i'm saying though is that I've never seen a game that crashes as much as DBD have DC penalties.
-
No reason to change BT. If they're downright farming you can easily go for the rescuer. If they're not you could be doing something else rather than returning to the hook and tunnelling the unhooked survivor. If they're hook diving and the gates are powered, kills should be hard to secure since you failed to kill anyone prior to that.

Any killer that gets royally screwed by the emblem system
Like, I legitimately don't get why Adept for killer isn't just scoring a 4k. It would make a hell of a lot more sense.

A fixed timed period is what Identity V does and it helps immensely in that game with slowing down the early survivor pressure so the Hunter player can get established.
Yeah I was thinking earlier it could be something like a "slow start" to gens.
That could incentivize survivors to go for another things like totems, plundering and saboing. I would go further and increase the penalty for grouped survivors, since that imo is a bigger problem early game (I know it's inneficient but it's tilting as killer when 3 survivors group and take 1 gen before you can do anything).

I'm kind of surprised his popularity hasn't taken off again after the nerfs to Spirit and Nurse, he used to be among the big 3 but it feels like lately you never see him anymore
I feel like that is because Spirit is just miles easier than Billy. His ceiling is crazy high but people have no reason to play him when killers like Spirit and Freddy are also strong but way easier.
Spirit got a slap in the wrist, the nerfs didn't dissuade anyone from playing her.
-
I was thinking of a similar thing too.
But it shouldn't be until someone gets downed. It should be a fixed time period. What if a killer takes 3 minutes to down someone? They shouldn't get rewarded for that. And they shouldn't get punished for downing people too fast either. A fixed time period is best. But I like the core idea.

On top of what you are saying which i agree with the matchmaking has created an swf issue with more being matched into red ranks we also need to look at when this first started.
It was not long after the challenges came into place that the queue times got longer ao that could maybe also account for an imbalance. Now it's quite safe to assume the true mains don't play much of the other side so anyone switching over becomes low rank.
This makes low ranked killer queues longer and low ranked survivor quicker in theory.
Looking at it if 100 killers moved over it affects 100 high rank matches.
If 100 survivors move over it only affects 25 high rank matches.
Just another thought as the last time the devs specifically stated it was a lack of survivors and adjusted the pip system while this time they said it was initially due to the matchmaking.
That's not to say there isn't a shortage as it can create one but as you say logically there are other factors to make it that way other than a few forum people saying they will stop playing a role.
Yeah I had totally forgot about the requirement changes.
I do feel like without Ruin, the devs had an opportunity to keep Gatekeeper as is, and then make survivors requirements tougher. I feel like it's better for game health if the bulk of the playerbase is around purple and green ranks instead of red, so that more red rank matches have a high level. That gives us a better picture of balance imo.

It's 2020, you should keep up with the times if you think ranking up is "easy on both sides". I've been playing killer since I started and with the new changes I played Survivor for 2 days and got to red ranks...
I also had not played killer for months and dropped to 15 then came back a week ago and got rank 1 in 2 days

Why would the matchmaking match me with rank 10s 3/4 of the time in red ranks?
Im very sure there are just no red rank killers, because red ranks suck for killers.
It happens on both sides because matchmaking is messed up right now.
Red ranks have sucked for killers for literal years (once every 10 games), that's not it chief

I would be very interested in seeing the pecentages of the whole playerbase (including all platforms) across all ranks.
Yeah that's the data we're missing tbh.
New rank reset just royally ruins things for me, rank already doesn't mean much and now everyone will be eventually forced into red ranks. Good luck having any indication of skill then. Right now matchmaking is coinflip, with this new rank reset games will be even more coinflip regardless of rank.

I agree its matchmaking. I fear that issues as bad as this matchmaking issue are going to cause the playerbase to stall/fall.
The devs do not seem as invested as they used to be (when i got the game on release for console in 2017 there was a dev stream every week).
New players wont stay. Between the lack of knowledge given by the turorial and the chance to be matched with someone miles above your skill level, the isnt much insentive to grind.
Old/Veteran players could leave as the previous issue, amongst myriad other issues (broken sounds for killer being huge) just arent being addressed. From what i see on the forums some issues dont even get acknowledged
I think it's still the christmas vibes from the devs tbh. They're usually more invested and they have been communicating a lot with the playerbase last year for example. I don't know how it was back in 2017 though because I started early 2018.
I do agree current matchmaking is AWFUL for new players though. As a new survivor or killer I'd just downright quit the game when I first started playing if I got matched against red ranks. This game is already cruel as is for new players without this extra hurdle. I do hope they fix that soon. Matchmaking worries me MUCH more than Ruin atm.

We don’t have numbed to back up either way, as far as reason I think some people left or quit killer because it’s hard or at least they feel it’s hard... do I agree, no but I can see it make people quit.
The problem is matchmaking is so bugged right now it’s hard to know anything if you ask me
And I feel like people would have no reason to quit now. Sure, if we see a player dip after the Ruin changes that's reasonable. But if anything I see people playing more now before Ruin gets actually changed.
Killer has always been hard. No reason to quit now over anytime before, when MoM was a thing for example. I would be way more tempted to quit back then with that busted perk than now.

Can't both be true?
His numbers back it up his idea. For every 4 survivors they need 1 killer, so that means for every killer that decides he quits that takes a game away from 4 survivors. To compound it, for every killer that switched to survivor and is also red rank there that takes a game away from 5 people in a way because he's eating up a survivor slot as well.
I also think matchmaking is super bugged and terrible right now which is also a cause. I am beyond upset that BHVR hasn't addressed this issue since their stream a month ago saying they were looking into it.
Thing is, we have no reason whatsoever to believe that's the case.
Since we had the exact same problem on the survivor side before the matchmaking changed, why are we just assuming killers are quitting when nothing besides angry people threatening to leave (which happens every single day, even without any changes) supports that?
Do we just assume people were quitting from survivor before the matchmaking changed too? A lot, and I mean a lot of people were saying they didn't play survivor anymore, but no one took that seriously. Just like I'm not taking empty threats from killer players seriously now.

I get its a matchmaking issue, thats why i marked your answer as accepted. I was unsure as to whether there is actually just a small number red rank killers or not (I dont think anyone is leaving).
I dont particularly care about nor did i mention que times, thats not what this was about. I just want to have a friendly conversation about people (on both sides) being absolutely stomped for no reason other than " matchmaking lol"
I get what you're saying. Assuming people aren't just massively leaving (which would be easy to observe by player count numbers), I don't think there's a lack of red rank killers. Requirements for ranking up haven't changed in quite a while, and rank reset hasn't come yet. That's why I believe it's purely a matchmaking issue.
-
People who play immersed. Nope, not wasting time looking for you again. Better to get rid of you now.

@EverflowingRiver said:
Everyone seems to forget it's 4 on 1. Killers had longer ques earlier because there was small lack of survivors. Now that people are leaving killer for survivor this has shifted. It's simple math.
When you have little to no evidence to support a claim it's better to go for the obvious answer.
Before matchmaking changed, killer queues were long and survivor queues were instant. After the matchmaking changed, things were reversed.
Matchmaking change: a factual phenomenon which can be observed and clearly explained.
"Killer exodus": an isolated phenomenon which has no clear evidence of existing, let alone outside of the bubble which are the forums.
Shall we accept the clear answer? Or do we really need to instill more pointless, baseless conflict based on absolutely nothing?
-
@BigFudge said:
The intention of this post wasnt to start an argument as to the balance of the game but more to ask why green/purple rank killers can be matched with a full team of rank 1s when they clearly have no business being in the same lobby.
We all know there are numerous balance issues for both sides at all ranks.
I am currently a rank 2 survivor and rarely see a red rank killer. I always leave a thumbs up or message the killer to apologise if they were far outide of what should be acceptable matchmaking. Its horrible being utterly obliterated in 5 mins
And the answer has already been given. It's a matchmaking issue. Before they changed MM killer queues were long and survivor queues were instant. That definitely didn't mean there weren't red rank survivors. It was a matchmaking issue, just like what we have now.
-
Tell me enlightened killer players, when killer queues were absolutely awful before they changed matchmaking did that mean survivors were quitting the game? Was the game awful for survivor?

No? So it's absolutely not possible? It sounds like you have something of a bias. You are quick to say killers are overreacting but won't look at problems other than the overall matchmaking issue. It's harder for killer to pip and just because player base isn't dropping doesn't mean everyone is ranking up to red rank.
It's easy for killer to pip. Anyone who's not awful at killer will tell you that. Killers that don't belong in their rank are just as prevalent as survivors who don't belong in their rank.

No, because there's absolutely no reason to think that when the matchmaking problem exists. There's absolutely no reason that would happen when mediocre killers can absolutely make it to red ranks.
When playerbase starts dropping you can bring that up. Until then nah.

You can continue to bury your head in the sand or worship the ground the devs walk on while the exodus of killers persists.
When you stop with the theatrics and start analyzing the facts I'll talk to you. This is a matchmaking problem as anyone who wants to see it instead of whining can see. I haven't heard of a single killer player who stopped playing the game besides faceless names in the internet which is worth just as much as my anecdotal evidence that everything is fine.

Exactly, it needs to go back to the average rank but scaled up a bit so if a swf red ranks can't totally bully the poor green rank that didn't see it coming.
Yeah, that's exactly what I'm in favor of. Average weighed towards the top a bit.
Because let's be real, it's not only the fun factor of the games that gets screwed. How are we supposed to do anything with red rank kill rates if a game with a red rank killer and a single red rank survivor+ 3 yellow rank potatoes counts as a red rank game?
-

Im beginning to think there are little to no red rank killers (on console anyway) i am currently rank 7-6 an EVERY. SINGLE. MATCH is against 4 rank 2-1s. I'm not even exagerrating.
I get there is a 6 rank buffer but the gulf in skill between a rank 6 surv and a rank 1 surv is massive, let alone dealing with 4 of them.
People may tell me to just get gud but the ######### is tough man, when 1 surv can run you for 3 gens and the other 3 are just as good its not fun
That's because of the new matchmaking logic that makes every game a red rank game as long as there's one red rank survivor.
If there's 1 red rank and 3 yellow ranks in the survivor side, the matchmaking looks for a red rank killer. Eventually every single one of them is in a game, so sometimes a game with 4 red rank survs gets a purple, sometimes even green rank killer.
Yeah it's a garbo system but what can we do

For the record, I played about 20 games in a row between the 1 hour ban and the 6 hour soft ban. I think it was 22 to be specific (with the 23rd being when the error happened).
Yeah, 22 games and I still went from 1 hour to 6. Yikes.
And the system was supposed to scale down when you played matches normally lol
If they really want to implement this they need a more forgiving system. No DC ban from any decent game flags as many false positives as the one they tested.

Object of obsession is really good against her but that's it. The guessing game or mind games are way in her favor and killers cant seem to grasp that at all. Stealth is strong against her but good luck finding a spirit without radar perks.
Her sound does seem to be buggy a lot though I always bring Stridor so idk. Some days I can hear survs breathing and other days I cant lol.
Yeah that's what people can't grasp. It's all fine and dandy when you play as Spirit because you feel powerful. Playing against her is the opposite of that, it feels like you're waiting for the killer to mess up because that's the only chance you have.

The first day DC punishments were being tested, I had to DC 5 times because of being stuck in the basement bug (with someone else) and the killer not killing us, being stuck in a generator as a killer and the survivors not leaving, being kicked out once by the dedicated servers (with 2 other people -- another survivor and the killer themselves), the game abruptly crashing and throwing up a bug splat, which counts as a DC, and then actually legitimately finishing a match, but it failed to update my rank, which apparently counts as a DC because I got slapped with a 6 hour wait time after that.
Aaaand then I didn't play the game at all because I was legitimately afraid if I tried to play again the next soft ban would be a whopping 24 hours. Also because it pissed me off. ######### that.
Dude, that's exactly what I'm talking about. Why implement a system like this when the game itself can make you get grounded for six hours without disconnecting ONCE?
It's a horror story and the sad thing is that it can happen to anyone. No matter how good your PC is and no matter how much of a good sport you are, if you get BHVRd it's all meaningless for the DC penalty system.

Being banned for a few minutes from a game is literally not even somewhat close of a punishment as a real life crime.
It doesn't matter. Punishes should be for offenders, not for people screwed by bad game programming.
As I said before. If as much as 10% of your punishes go for people who did nothing wrong the system is bad and shouldn't exist. I would lower it to 5% tbh because I've never seen a game that takes itself seriously with that many people being punished without doing anything.

Firstly what the actual ######### stop getting so mad when you don't 4K because of hatch. You already won.
Secondly I agree killers should have a clear advantage on the EGC, but guess what, that already happens. You find the survivor? You win. You find hatch first? You win. You have Whispers? It becomes like a 1% chance the survivor will escape.
Honestly the devs should just give a score event for the killer if anyone escapes through hatch, maybe we'll stop having these annoying daily threads here.

As a PS4 player I can attest to what you are saying. The dedicated servers have made things worse. Longer queue times are the worst part for me. I have noticed I am hitting far far less perfect skill checks since the dedicated servers came into play. It kinda sucks that they switched us to dedicated servers that cause slight time delays in a game where timing is rather important for many aspects.
Dedicated servers will be a major mistake if they can't fix them, that's for sure.
-
If you're playing at anything but the highest level this game is killer sided.
Yes, that means even red ranks.
Only when people are actually good at the game it becomes survivor sided, which is rare because most people aren't very good at the game.
So yeah, survivors are stronger. But for most people it doesn't matter. That's why I cringe a little when I see most people complaining about this, like, it doesn't even matter for most people.

Same problems as before such as? I'm a Nurse main, I don't play Spirit as much
When sounds are functional, a good killer (with good headphones) will always hear footsteps and regular breathing, so even Iron Will isn't a counter. The way to "counter" her is still simply guessing right every time, which is bad especially considering the guessing games are always in her favor. The only way to reliably beat a good Spirit is by getting a big map and spreading out. All the changes gave us was punishing bad Spirits more imo.
When sounds are broken she just feels like garbage to play which is obviously also really bad.
