@Frankie Yep I plan on trying to get good. Just hoping the system does as well. You have more experience in the game than I do so maybe you're right? I can't say. Everything is on a "we'll see" basis.
Edit: Interesting video. This does make a better point.
-
The forums won't let me quote today, so tag it'll be.
@Frankie I don't buy into there isn't some skill in getting to red rank. Yes, there are red rank potatoes. I'm a rank 2 survivor atm and seen it plenty. However, I've not seen a rank 15 survivor compare to a rank 1 potato yet. It also took me 4 months to hit red ranks playing pretty regularly.
I'm still learning killers. I don't think it's asking for much to be paired with people around my skill level. How they will do it? I don't know. BHVR has said they can though with the new system. Guess we'll see.
Edit: I caught your post before you edited so my response was to that version, which is much the same.
-
Yep. Two matches with actual rank 1's just now.
-
Ace made me smile, he looks as cheeky as he needs to be. π
Is the whole thing going to be filmed in black and white like Meg's story?
Looking forward to seeing it.

Asking for charms in the store, lol. Specifically ones from the first rift I missed out on. Some day I hope~*
-
You should put the gif on Imgur.
But yeah I agree, it's most noticeable when you're bent forward for heals or on a hook.
-
Heather, but I like both.
-
Yes please.

Fun as survivor: Everything. Pulling off different builds, getting chased, successfully being stealthy when needed, saving someone (especially if it was a flashlight), watching my bunny ears flap, screaming because Ghost Face yet again jump scared me, random 4% unhooks when you think the game is lost, and so on.
Fun as killer: Learning their mechanics and finally getting 4k's, because they are much harder to learn. Out mind gaming someone. Snoot boops. Meme survivors. Revenge for games past where you lost horribly but now they're on your hook. Probs more but I'm still learning.
Not fun: As said, camping. I hate having it done and I dislike when I've felt the need to. Rude folks -- I ignore it plenty but when you get raging people game after game it does get old. Some people were never taught sportsmanship. AFK / game throwing lots.
-
If you know they are the 360'ing sort, spin with them when you swing. Works half the time, because you're going to have to guess which way they were going.
-
Only applies to PC gamers unfortunately, but if you find yourself lagging a lot or having a low frame rate, I'd look into some guides floating around to boost that. It helps considerably.
Figuring out what to do and where a killer is can help a lot in early game, or even late game. Skills like Kindred, Bond, & Aftercare are great for aura reading, or Spine Chill to know if a killer is coming towards you.
If you know someone is in a chase, do a gen. The amount of games I've seen lost because people are running about like chickens while the killer is occupied is staggering, lol. Totems are also good. Inner Strength allows you to heal after breaking a totem & entering a locker (personally the best heal imo), and breaking totems help combat a killer skill called "No One Escapes Death", which you will see a lot, especially in early ranks. Just always try to be doing something productive.
Good luck!

Not sure how the Twitch Advisory Council is gonna work out but, yeah, Twitch has had some problems with racism and they definitely need some better moderation.
It's not looking good from the publicity I've seen, but it's a step in the right direction. Hopefully they'll improve or move on to a plan b.
-
Twitch has had problems with bigotry for years and the only way to curb stomp it is moderation. Hopefully the DBD team will learn from today's mistake. Just looking away has it's own consequences. A little reading:
Since its inception in 2011, Twitch.tv has consistently remained one of the most popular games streaming platforms in the worldβ¦Three critical flaws could spell the end of Twitch's streaming supremacy. Restrictive contracts, favoritism and toxic chat logs top the list. -
Tbh Pyramid Head was my most wanted, but... An expansion on the old Ghost Face one would be sweet. Brenda Meeks from Not Another Scary Movie please.

Is playing survivor harder than playing killer? No. It's not as hard and you don't have to put up with nearly as much BM and immature bullshit as killers do.
I'm Rank 1 surv and, currently, Rank 6 killer. Rank 1 surv is really, really easy to get, you just have to keep playing. It's almost a guarantee. When it comes to killer, you're going to be facing red ranks almost exclusively if you go any higher than rank 10.
Oof yes. The BM is real. Playing Survivor I might have 1 person come at me every 10 games. And that's a bit of a stretch. Killer? I've just had 4 games in a row of it. If they win, it's "gg ez bb killer" even whey they are purple ranks. If they lose, it's "you camping / tunneling [REDACTED]." Gets old really fast.
-
I've got a lot more hours in survivor than killer, because I just started leveling killer, but man... I've gotta go with killer being harder to learn. I also think it depends on the rank. A good rank 1 killer is SCARY. A good rank 10 survivor VS a rank 10 killer is probably scarier. My opinion might change once I hit red ranks with killer, but I've got a ways to go.

We all know Dead by Daylight is known for it's Grind. It's what keeps us playing the game, it's what keeps us going through the same loops over and over again and it's why we love to play this game getting as much points as we possibly can for every single match. It's why farm games exists and why (some) people love it when they pop up because it gives them a chance to get a ton of guaranteed bloodpoints for everyone involved in the match.
With that said, I think The Massive Grind is going to become a real issue real soon. Especially with new players who are just joining the game and started playing.
I calculated the amount of Bloodpoints needed to get every single character to Prestige 3, Level 50 with all Perks obtained. Prepare to see some huge numbers.
Since I want to talk about new players specifically, I'll focus on the one thing most new players will most likely do when they first start playing the game. Get as much teachables as they can as soon as possible. Because they want to have fun builds, they want to be able to survive against Killers or Survivors who have (arguably) better perks than them. So let's just assume this New Player wants to grind for every teachable in the game. First they would need to level every Character to Level 40 at a minimum.
It takes a minimum of around 1,250,000 Bloodpoints to get a single character to Level 40. Let's then multiply that with every character that is currently in DBD, there are currently 21 Survivors and 19 Killers. Bringing the number to a total of 40 Characters to level up to Level 40. Which brings the amount of Bloodpoints you need to 50 Million Bloodpoints. If you show this to a new player, they would find this to be incredibly daunting and tedious.
But I hear you asking, "Kibara! Not every one of those characters has perks that are worth to grab!" And you would be right. So let's just remove the characters whose entire perk deck are not in the current meta, very situational or are just not worth to grab in general (Bolded Perks are up for debate on whether or not they are worth getting):
- Ace Visconti (Up the Ante, Open Handed, Ace in the Hole)
- Quentin Smith (Wake Up!, Vigil, Pharmacy)
- Jeff Johansen (Distortion, Aftercare, Breakdown)
- Ash Williams (Mettle of Man, Buckle Up, Flip Flop)
- Steve Harrington (Babysitter, Camaraderie, Second Wind)
- Zarina Kassir (Red Herring, Off the Record, For the People!)
- The Huntress (Beast of Prey, Territorial Imperative, Hex: Huntress Lullaby)
- The Demogorgon (Surge, Mindbreaker, Cruel Limits)
- The Oni (Zanshin Tactics, Blood Echo, Nemesis)
- The Deathslinger (Gearhead, Dead Man's Switch, Hex: Retribution)
And with that, we eliminated 10 (at least in my opinion) characters that you don't need to grind for because their perks are (arguably) not worth to grind for. That still leaves us with 30 characters whose perks are definitely worth grinding for though. Not only do these 30 characters have useful perks, some of them are downright powerful that you would be nuts to not get as soon as possible.
You would be nuts to not go for Dead Hard or BBQ & Chili from the start of your DBD Career, because these perks really REALLY help out a lot in escaping, chasing, detecting or even giving you free Bloodpoints.
Now that we have that sorted out, how much BP do we have to spend now?
37,500,000.
That is STILL A LOT of Bloodpoints. And to any new players, if they saw this number they would find that incredibly discouraging. Because they see the cap is 1 Million Bloodpoints, so they would think 1 Million is a lot of Bloodpoints.
Oho, but we're not yet done with the Grind Train yet, my friends. It gets even more exponentially expensive. It's like playing an Idle Game except you need to always be active to gain cash.
Let's assume those new players become regular players, and they want to fully prestige their characters. They see those bloody outfits and they want their own characters to look like that. Well, if they want to fully Prestige their characters with level 50 on all of them, lets do the math again then, shall we?
To get a Level 1 Character to Level 50, you need roughly around 1,750,000 Bloodpoints. To get A SINGLE CHARACTER to Prestige 3-50, you need to multiply that number 4 times. Meaning the grand total amount, the MINIMUM amount you need to spend on a single character to fully max out their levels is 7,000,000 Bloodpoints.
Yikes! That's already around 1/6th of the amount of Bloodpoints required to gain every teachable that is worth it in the game.
And of course, per our formula, we need to then multiply that number by 40 (assuming they want to prestige every single character in the game to it's max level). After that, we get a grand total of 280,000,000 Bloodpoints to max out every single character is this damn game.
That is a ridiculously large amount of Bloodpoints. I've played for 1.5k Hours in this game and I've only accumulated around 100,000,000 Bloodpoints myself. But hey, you can argue that it needs to be that expensive because Prestiging a character is Optional. You don't have to do it, which is why it's so expensive, it shows you're willing to put more time into the game. And I get that, it is meant to be more of a reward system for loyal players rather than an actual grind you have to overcome.
But what if you want to experiment with Perk Builds? Something that is a part of the game, and arguably, half the fun of Dead by Daylight to some people (myself included).
You would obviously need every single perk in the game to be able to actually experiment with the perks you want to play with. And here is where the massive numbers come in.
It takes roughly around 35 Million Bloodpoints to get every single perk in the game, and that is already close to the minimum we need to get for every single TEACHABLE that is worth to grab from the various characters in DBD. Reduce the number you need for Level 50, and you still need 33,250,000 Bloodpoints. (Keep in mind, I am assuming this character is Prestige 3, which means they already need to spend 5,250,000 Bloodpoints already on a single character.)
Arguably, you can be conservative and say that since every Survivor plays the same. You only need to get it for one Survivor and you'll be able to play with every perk in the game as much as you fancy.
But what if you play Killer?
Every killer plays differently, meaning not every build will work for every single one of them. You may need to mix-and-match separate perks to see what works well for you for that particular killer. So, you might end up grinding Bloodpoints to earn every single perk in the game, for every single Killer in the game if you don't have a single main you always play as.
Meaning, once again, we take the number 38,500,000 Bloodpoints (Assuming they start from Level 1), and we multiply that by 19.... And we get...
731,500,000 Bloodpoints.
And that is the best case scenario, that is assuming the Bloodweb doesn't screw you over by eating up multiple perks at once which has happened to me loads of times when I was maxing out Spirit. That is still a ridiculously huge amount of Bloodpoints, especially for Killers.
Now, if we add up every single Survivor as well, that number skyrockets to...
1,540,000,000 Bloodpoints.
Seeing this number and doing the math makes me think that perks like BBQ and WGLF are sometimes Mandatory because of how ridiculous this grind can be.
This reminds me a lot of PAYDAY 2 prior to them adding the Crime Spree mechanic. You needed to grind hours upon upon of XP to get to Infamy-XXV and you get diminishing returns because doing the best heist in the game for XP over and over again will incur you an XP penalty. It was brutal and unforgiving.
With Crime Spree, yeah the heists became harder but the rewards became much more worth it, it became much more rewarding and the time spent to grind greatly diminished making it easier to grind for Infamy-XXV.
But DBD has nothing like that, With BBQ you'd be lucky if you got 64,000 Bloodpoints in a single match. I just cannot fathom how someone, especially DBD Content Creators, could spend that much hours, that many matches of the same game to max out every character in the game to it's fullest potential. It must be a huge feeling of relief when you finally reach there.
After doing the math, I really hope BHVR takes a look at BP gains, or at least the Bloodweb Mechanic. Because right now DBD is incredibly hostile to new players, and it's driving people away more than it encourages them to stay because of that looming grind over their heads. And I think it would be better for the game, and the playerbase as a whole, if the grind was not this huge.
That's all I have to say regarding the Grind in Dead by Daylight.
Thank you for coming to yet another one of my TED Talks, it is now 6 AM and I have not slept.
The math they did shows how truly outrageous the perk grind is. I still stand by removing tiers.
-
Even when running Kindred or playing with someone I make the hook motion, because I'd rather not let a killer know my build. However yeah, a lot of people do it regardless. It's not really reliable for either side to figure out anything.
-
@Raven014 Just wanted to let you know I used your build finally (hadn't had the chance to play since this discussion) and on the first go I got a 4k. Thanks again! That was a lot more fun.

But they will make money because aren't they remastering the first Silent Hill game or is it a whole new game coming to the PS5? I wasn't clear on that when I saw the news.
I wish, but I think it comes down on who you choose to believe.
The rumours of a Silent Hill remake developed by Sony as a PS5 exclusive will not die, despite Konami saying theyβre not true.Konami is finally starting to pay more attention to the 'Silent Hill' series again with a 'Dead by Daylight' crossover, so is this a prelude to bigger β and better β news?If Konami has actually said no (I can't seem to find where they said no), then I'm guessing no. A soft reboot does seem more likely? So who knows really.
-
I'd be alright with that, but I'd prefer basements to match their maps more so. Default basement at Hawkins is just out of place.
-
Almost everyone I've come across outside of forums is either happy it's Pyramid Head or just neutral. There's only one person I know who is unhappy, because he hates Konami with a passion, and doesn't like seeing them make money.
-
Stephen King appears to be uninterested in working with DBD. The challenge alone wouldn't really be worth making a hard to get license into a skin. On top of that, if Stephen King did agree to it, he'd probably expect big fanfare over it. And I have a feeling in general, people who have wanted this for a long time would be disappointed if it was a skin compared to a whole new DLC.
-
I'm always joking someone needs to buy him vape. I smoked a good portion of my life, and smokers are some dedicated mofos. There were times I stood outside in -20 degree weather just for a puff, despite the fact the puff hurt. I suppose a hook wouldn't stop some. Heck, you'd probs think you need it. Last request before death and all!
-
I'm southern, iced sweet tea please.
Seriously though I only do it to other survivors to goof off or say hi. Same with the clicky-clicky flashlights. I've only pointed at killers who are determined to tunnel someone when I'm right beside them, lol. Things like that. Oh, and snoot boops.
No sense in being mean. Now, I do recognize it as a tactic to throw someone off their game by upsetting them, but... 1.) I don't wanna upset anyone and 2.) Someone who does get upset by something like that is probably pretty young and/or sensitive. Just not right.
-
PTB is to find bugs. While bugs are more likely to occur with the new killer, it's actually not bad to see what happens with other killers before the patch goes out.
When the PTB first released I got a match with a clown. I didn't mind, but my fellow survivors did. Two asked why he was playing Clown, and the killer & I both explained he'd gotten a small update. They threw a tantrum saying "Yeah but it's not a big deal!" and worse things. However, code is weird, a small change could break something else easy. People need to play Clown a bit.
-
That's literally what the PTB is for -- testing bugs. So I wouldn't worry a bit. Report them though.
-
I mean yeah, just make the old Meg the new Claud and vice versa. However, I think the old Claud better suits a female Dwight. π
-
Was talking to a Plague yesterday and telling her how much I love seeing someone playing her. And like Nub said, as long as you have a good team, she's really not that bad. Now, one bad apple can spoil the bunch.
-
If this was Reddit, I'd give you an award. Great work at displaying the comparisons! I need to play the old Silent Hill's again some time.

You have to be within 10m of the killer to count for the challenge. Stake out doesn't make any difference in tracking that.
Ya for the record I was referring to ayaya's comment, and that's how I handled the other tome's terror radius challenge. I still think it could help, but I'll try to pull it off first before saying I'm positive.

I'd like to see a latino male, something I've been saying for a while, because my husband is latino. BHVR has said they want their survivors to be someone the players can identify with, so I don't see why representation is being some what scoffed at here? It's not only something people crave because they can relate to it, and not having it is kind of a big deal but I won't go into all that -- but in the case of BHVR it attracts customers. It's a good business move. Judge it how you will, but I'm less apt to playing games that don't have playable female characters, for instance. Been that way since the first Tekken or Resident Evil came on the scene. It doesn't mean I won't play a game with a male lead if it piques my interest, I've played many. However it is a factor that can make me more interested in spending my money and time.

Considering 95% of the perks in the game are junk, and survivors are essentially skins, I don't know why people insist on having every perk on every character.
Stock david king / bill already come with almost the best survivor builds in the game.
You can have full meta builds with 2-3 characters to 40 on both sides.
True, prestiging one and having all the perks is more than enough. I want to be able to mix and match builds, play around with anything I want on a whim, and so forth. I've rarely run meta builds yet, because either the character I'm leveling doesn't have them (I try to use up the yellow-green offerings then move on to the next) or I like to experiment with what I got. Still managed to get to rank 3, for whatever that means. Fun just outweighs it for me though.
So I'm not sure if I'll ever prestige again after the intial survivor and then killer, but... What else is there to do with those points once you've unlocked everything? And nada wrong with feeling a sense of achievement from doing it, either.

Good luck with that! Getting a single character to maxed out Prestige/Perks is going to be quite the BP Dump. I would know, I did the math on it.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/152639/the-massive-grind
It will take several days, or even weeks to get one character to Prestige 3-50, not even maxing them out. Especially on the Survivor side since, again, they do have more perks and their BP gain is much lower to Killers.

Yup I was apart of that discussion at one point! It's still daunting, lol. I mean, I've spent since Feb getting this far though, so I'll just have to be patient and try not to focus on it. They really should do something about the grind however, because it's only going to get worse with each new chapter, and it already deters some potential players.

You might want to start playing Killer more often because Survivor has more perks, meaning you have to grind much more to get every single perk in the game for a single Survivor.
I play survivor more because I got this game for my husband and I. So, it made more sense for me to focus on the side where we could actually play together. And besides, I'm getting close now to being able to prestige one!

Sometimes I've got all the way to level 50 without Self Care or even Inner Strength.
I'm not saying they're essential in ever Survivor build, but it's nice to have one of the healing perks handy.
Yeesh, that's unlucky. I've had 1 survivor turn out that way, think it was Quentin.
At this point I've got 1 survivor left to level to 40+, and only 1 killer to 40. Trying to be as optimal as possible so I can get at least 1 survivor and 1 killer maxed out before I think of doing it to any others. That's taken me 324 hours.
It's like... I'm not mad about the grind, but there are ways BHVR could shorten it a bit. Removing tiers. Upping survivor gains some how. Making "We're Gonna Live Forever" a little more worth wild to take. So on and so forth. It's gonna be a good while before I have that Prestige 3 survivor with all the perks, and even longer for killer. The only reason I put killer off for so long was so I could have at least one half of the game completely unlocked.
-
I'm too lazy to argue, even when I feel I've been wronged, lol. So either I ignore it, or I'll make lighthearted comments, which are sure to annoy anyone looking for a reaction.
-
I just started playing more killer after a couple hundred hours as survivor. Stress wise, it feels about the same, except as killer I have more control in directing my opponent's actions. But ya' know, when I, a rank 15 legion, get paired with a rank 2 survivor, that is painful. I've only ever hit rank 3 in survivor myself.
I've only been truly bullied once now, and it was when I was rank 20 & got matched with a rainbow. They actually apologized, lol. It is a crappy feeling though.
-
I'm good with the levels of gore now. The first time I seen the hook animation in a trailer, it almost put me off the game, and when I tried to get a friend to try it, he told me it put him off. I tried explaining it's really not that bad outside of moris, but he called me desensitized. π€·π»ββοΈ It seems like a common reaction, at least for people who don't indulge in gore horror often. I've always been more into psychological or paranormal horror as opposed to slashers myself.
You could argue "Well, it's a slasher game, it should have more gore." And maybe you're right, but I think anything more blatant would be a turn off for lots of new comers.
-
She is really pretty, though I've heard some people disagree. One person told me she looked like Laurie and Quentin had a baby. π
-
Doing a little 180 when going for close range attacks seems to help me land more, especially when so many survivors try to 360. Other than that, latency I guess.
-
Are we sure you shouldn't be a Dwight...?
You're adorable. π
-
I mean, if you'd have put lets say... Nea? The wild child who has street perks and so on in an urban outfit with a whale tale, that'd have fit better. Claudette was just an odd choice, given her lore yes. However, I don't see the harm in folks who'd like to see more diversity in their choices being happy with this either. She's the one black female character in the game, and not everyone who plays her because they identify with that wants to be a more conservative botanist.
I will say I appreciate that DBD isn't oversexed like many games on the market though. Hopefully it doesn't go beyond something like this, which is pretty tame in comparison to many.
-
Man, I don't even normally like PTB's, but I keep hopping back and forth between it and the live version. I love everything about this chapter so much.
