Before any "this platform only" or "that platform pref pls" bs is even considered, one should probably ask the devs for killer to survivor player ratios for that specific platform or better all platform in general.
Iirc correctly before X-Play was on, consoles had horrendous queue times due to killer shortage for example.
Implementing any of those ridiculous preference systems would bring people back to those times and tif there are enough and enough whining the devs might temper with matchmaking again to shorten the queues and we would be back in elo free for all.
-
As many people already said, neither. The devs are way too scared to anger the masses without giving some for carrot (buff survivor or nerf killer related stuff) to accompany the stick (gen nerf).
-
The biggest strength is not in chase but when survivor preemptively hide.
Then there are no scratch marks, the blood is faded except directly below there feet and they crouch behind cover so "use you eyes" is also no option.
And there is absolutely no downside to it for a 100% benefit. Most of the killer perks that work that way have only slight gains like brutal strength, agitation or iron grasp. Perks without any downside or interactive aspect but don't have nearly the same strength.
-
The symbols ok the left are now called grades and "work" the same as old ranks as you climb them via pipping but it is impossible to depip with them and they only offer a BP reward at the end of each month circle on the 13th and reset completely back to Ashe 4 (the grey one).
Matchmaking is now done with a hidden MMR value and each killer starts on a medium level. Also if you main on killer and increase your MMR with them significantly it passively pulls the MMR of all other killer with it to compensate for transferable skills.
-
Oh no another master baiter got banned.

There a game that are played against player that aren't competitive like Mario kart, Mario party, smash.
When playing PvP game. You are playing to win but not to the extent to those who play PvP game competitively.
I never misinterpreted what competitive means which your definition (which has weird wording) doesn't describe it
Great examples 👍 /s
Three Nintendo games usually played together on the couch, as free for alls and not against randoms over iNet and iirc at least the last has even a real competitive niche "eSports" scene.
DBD is set up with two distinct counteracting sides working against each other and is outside of "kill your friends" "casual competitive" just because you can't distinguish between ranked and non ranked so the extremes have to be taken into consideration.
Again you never can balance a game for the casuals because the tryhards will break everything going for max efficiency shown by either hardcore nurse Mains or full swf on coms.

player v player aren't necessarily competitive
And again people misinterpreting the word competitive with eSports. And I mean you, not Mila.
2 sides Steigung for counteracting goals is pretty much a lexicon definition. (And no I didn't look up the correct definition.)

It's called being a casual player. If you can't comprehend THAT than you're the one with the thick skull. Bad game balance is not fun for casual OR serious players. It's that simple.
Maybe but balancing for the casuals will brake every game once some competitive players work out all the tricks that are possible in the game.
Hence why most pvp titles get balanced around the top and not the bottom.
Also this is where MMR comes into play. When truly the top play against the top (and not the amalgam of everything from noob to pro like with rank 1, IF they didn't make a low hard cap for MMR) only then they can balance this game.
The only problem then is for the casuals to refuse to play efficient mimicking the top.

First, these tactics are not toxic. Bad game design maybe.
But, yes I am tired of it. I respect everyone and their right to play how they want. But, I like to play with my lady when I am not in solo. And it has become impossible. She just gets tunneled out of every single game anymore. Even if we offer ourselves to the killer in an attempt to get them to leave her alone and just let her play.
So, yes I am tired of it. I know both sides have complaints, But we are not all god like survivors, some of us like to have a few drinks and play with our unskilled partners.
I know high MMR makes games just as tough for some killers. But, please, we are far from that death squad. ######### my lady plays hardly at all and my other buddy plays with only 1 finger on his right hand. No hyperbole, lost most of his hand in an explosion when he was young.
But sure, tunnel and camp us because someone, somewhere, has to play against some great survivors.
Well there is sadly absolutely no incentive to play like me for example. Going for 8 hooks, never the same survivor twice in a row and giving room for unhooks.
The game gives none and even survivor don't show any appreciation for it. Either there is nothing resembling positive feedback or the same negativity the here discussed playstyle provokes.
And it is absolutely rare for survivor to step from the gas when encountering my playstyle.
So both sides are guilty in this and we of the minority are the vict of the masses.
-
I love the smell of lazy uninspired whataboutism threads in the morning.
Not that the other thread is any better but i guess reposting the same thread with inverted viewpoint is helpful on these forums.
-
Well it wouldn't surprise me as behaviour is too afraid that their player base is too small for a realistic MMR range from noob to pro and so they cap it and keep the widening of matchmaking parameters to compensate for long queue times.
So all in all in the long-term they simply painted the old system over, (assumingly) took out the monthly reset for another timeframe i don't know ATM and sold it for something completely new with old problems after some time.

Probably because there isn't many other way to make it appealing.
Like with healing circle. How many ways do survivors have to heal themselves? Self care, inner strength, second wind, partially with solidarity or the best way... just a plain med kit. So now it has to compete with those, and the easiest (and the worst) is to make it flat out stupid.
The thing not only are those boon perks in their current ptb iteration absurdly strong and have the stacking bug but the devs also indirectly nerfed all the already risky hex perks.
The spawns of hex perks were in 60% already aweful (60% because I guess that 3 of 5 spawns on each map are clearly visible or next to key structures/gens) and now with the potentially added carrot survivor might be actively going on the totem hunt with double the rewards: destroy a hex (previously/ATM only the stick) and now getting their boon effect (the future carrot).

It's cleansed. And if you have perks that rely on activation mechanics such as plaything and NOED, they won't activate if there's no dull totems on the map. They won't overwrite Boon totems.
So they can in one step not only destroy the hex but also get there boon effect and the killer can't really destroy their boon perks?
Cool another hard survivor sided mechanic just like gen kicking vs tapping.
Damn glad that even when i played for BP, uninstalled the game and quit already and am just here for the forum bickering action.
-
Btw when a survivor blesses a hex totem, does the hex perk effect persist or is it directly overwritten/cleansed?
-
@R2k said:
Probably main idea is to force players clean totems. Because baby survivors all over complain about hex perks and how they don't want to clean them. U can't just ignore mechanic and then complain about killers.
The thing is apparently survivor needed a carrot (boon benefits) first before paying real attention to totems since the sticks (hexes) weren't enough since the ruin change which made cleansing at everything but the high skilled survivor level mandatory.
But it was too much asked from mediocre and below survivor so they changed it and now survivor mostly ignore ruin or cleanse when they find it by chance.
-
Let's just hope it doesn't have a hard cap that is as easily achievable as the old red ranks or rank 1.
It will lead to the same problem of a big part of the community getting stuck upt their and mismatched until they have to broaden search criteria for matches again (if that is not already the case as it feels that way sometimes).

Survivor is still ateam game, and you're expected to be able to communicate with your team.
Voice chat is entirely condoned and supported by BHVR. The only reason it isn't built into the game is because it doesn't need to be, there's already so many ways to access voice chat, it's even built right into consoles so you can't even twist it into being "third party software".
It is not an "unfair advantage" for survivors, rather it is a disadvantage for solos who don't have it.
And if you've ever played with my friends.... nope. I do way better as a solo survivor. Voice comms is not a guaranteed advantage.
BHVR has already said they won't give more BP for solos, because that would still be penalising people for playing with their friends.
It still passively substitute for over 10 perks that solo wouldve to equip which is impossible. Example like bond, kindred, buckle up and other aura reading perks.
If that isn't a built in potential for advantage at least over solo survivor then i don't know what to tell you.
And I don't give a damn about what the devs condone or not. They are simply not able to deny things like camping, tunneling, slugging or comms so they just declare them okay to bypass any form of responsibility in my eyes.
Edit: it is also not built in this game because I don't think they would manage without breaking something else and it would give killer player a base argument to cry for way more buffs. But since solo without comms is still existing there is a counterargument.

On consoles you can join a party and play dbd with a swf. Is it cheating for players to do that?
Ehm did i specifically talk about swf or third party programs?
And yes these third party programs Advantages are only applicable to one side.
Btw console have, as far as I know a built in voice chat which does the same thing.

To be fair I've never heard of a video game that bans people for using third party voice chat
Maybe because in any other online multiplayer game both sides can gain the same advantage?
DBD is the sole survivor of the asymmetric genre and I guess that the one-sided effect of third party was also a partial reason.
There is a group of german youtubers that i watch started group videos playing DBD, last year and a few other games until now and after getting a little better at those games even they notocedthat with coordination they can directly fight against the killer in both games and only one or two from this group that dedicated more time into the killer role were even able to get a "win".
So even noobs can notice fast how to take advantage of coordination via comms.
-
Either you don know it or just ignore it but the color grades have absolutely nothing to do anymore with the ranking of a player.
Especially since deranking is no longer possible.
An iridescent grade on both sides doesn't mean anything skill wise but a huge amount of playtime since the last monthly reset (still a stupidly short timeframe for "seasons").
-
@ukenicky said:
I thought comms were allowed though?
Using third party Software is in most games considered cheating.
Voice over IP programs like discord, Skype (yes I am that old) and TeamSpeak are a somewhat grey area there. In every other online multiplayer genre except the asymmetrical ones it poses the same potential advantages for all sides.
But games like DBD and others that belong to the asymmetrical genre this becomes a one-sided advantage and they would have to compensate for that but seldomly do so.
Also a partial reason why most games in this genre dont life too long, the number role noticed at some point that with comms and coordination they always can beat the solo power figure.

What does the audio cue do again? nothing. Hearing she's coming doesn't change a single thing about her because it's not precise anyway. Considering how buggy sound is in this game anyway it'll be inaccurate most of the time.
"delayed ATM" for Behavior this might mean another 4 years.
Not precise anyway? Same for scratch marks, beside that they are bugged time and time again.
Buggy and inaccurate sound? Same for survivor footsteps. (To the next comment, they are loud? 😂)
And to the delay, welcome to blight that still slides of half of all debris object outside of walls and to nurse which still has a bunch f things she can't really port through and bugs that make her power unusable in situations.
-
That's the ironically funny thing with the killer perk buffs in the this patch. 4 of 5 are hexes and thrill even became completely useless without boon perks in play, it doesn't give an audio queue when a totem is worked on (which could've been too strong against boons) but up to 7 extra seconds on totems won't help much when they killer doesn't even know that their totem is getting cleansed at this moment. And running this to help undyings aura reading time is a ridiculous thought, to run even one more otherwise useless hex perk to protect the main hex.

I actually have the inverse I get so stressed out playing survivor :(
Killer I have more fun because my mindset is different in that I feel free, like I can stomp around the map all I want haha
That's the thing if you feel anxious with the killer around, survivor becomes stressful because of this fear born anxiousness. But only if you are afraid to get caught. Most survivor don't have that.
But killer has the form of anxiousness of racing against the clock because the length of the trial is not set by the killer but by the efficiency of the survivor and the killer can only try to slow them down.
-
What are you talking about?
The directional audio cue is still coming and dust kicking is only delayed ATM?

@Rezblaze said:

There's literally two directions for every pallet.
Even if they hear your directional phase, we don't know how accurate the sound will be. You may hear it in your left ear, but it doesn't tell you;
- How close she is
- If she is doubling back
- If she's even moving
The Red Stain tells you far more about the direction and position of the killer than the Spirit, so I'm not sure what you mean she has "zero mindgame". Its not the game's fault you're uncreative.
While phase walking Survivors within 24 meters of The Spirit (not the husk) hear a directional audio cue that gains volume with proximity
How close she is:
Gains volume with proximity
If she is doubling back:
Directional audio cue
If she is even moving:
Still directional audio cue

Scratch Marks
Footsteps
Grass tufts
For gods sake, Otz played the Spirit with NO AUDIO and he still managed to 4k. So I don't believe you for a second that Iron Will actually matters on Spirit.
Its not easy, but its far from impossible, especially if you understand the survivor's patterns at tiles.
Scratch marks:
Have you seen the spread of scratch makes nowadays? And not really an option at high walled structures (As a mind game comparable to other killer which only can mind game when not seen)
Foot steps:
If I can hear their footsteps accurately then they sure as heck can hear the directional audio cue.
Grass tufts:
Only viable IF there is even grass, also same for spirit only enhanced with the coming dust kicking coming making it even viable in areas without said grass.

Well hex the devs have once again shown that they don't have a way with words and make public blunders.
"Pretty good job so far."
"Mori's are toxic"
"Go play civ 6"
Also the public thing on Twitter about colorblind mode.
I think they simply don't think how something can be seen by the public and are just careless with their wording.
-
@NomiNomad said:
But Grandpa! They nerfed Spirit AND Slinger! And Boons are totally OP!!
Yeah I don't get it either. People just focusing on the bad, I guess.
If I had to put my tin-foil-hat again i would say this is not far of for a conspiracy theory.
Just like the timing of the mori change, this patch could be seen as a carrot and a stick in one package for the majority of the player aka the survivor part.
Theori nerf came at time when the game was hard broken by a patch for the first time so to ease the waves they gave in to the majority and made the long demanded nerf of moris.
Now they thought that it is the time to give into the killer demands to implement the proposed idea to change hatchs and indirectly nerf keys.
This idea was proposed ok the first week after the mori nerf and with the exception of an animation for the unlocking process should've been possible then and there together with moris by changing spawning conditions for hatch (which they even screwed up by deleting the hatch spawn with multiple survivor when they gates are powered. Only preemptively opening hatch with gens to do was the irk).
Now they do it but only together with giving survivor a carrot in form of hard balancing deathslinger and spirit and the addition of boon totems as a potential meta changing mechanic which in it's iteration ATM borders broken status.
Trapper change won't help much but makes him feel better, plague gets buffs in non interaction parts of her power and in regard to the addon "purge" i would say it ends on a net zero with buffs to weak stuff and nerfs to the strongest addons.
And finally the "buffs" to killer perks in this patch. 4 of 5 are hex perks which will be even more of a stupid gamble if boons become something akin to meta and survivor start even more actively searching for the spawns. Thrill even became basically useless and should argumentatively be treated the same as totem hunting perks from survivors because it can be a hit or miss when not being able to know if survivor will even run boons and without the alert is useless as effective hex protection now.

At least my brain isn't in overdrive. I could just chill and relax to music while messing about. Sure the team is dumb but eh the mindset is different when you don't have to think about every single thing going in the match.
This. Killer have overall 16 objectives to juggle their attention around:
4 survivor
(their location health/hook states, perk/item loadout),
7 gens
(progress on them, are they regressing, location relative to other gens plus remaining pallet availability in the near vicinity) and the
5 totems,
which until now where only dependent on the loadout of the killer but boon totems might make those also mandatory everytime.
-
Let me ask another question. Why should any killer player want to deal with this?
It's obvious that those teams of survivor have a high chance of being a multiprson swf and I would hard assume that their goal is not the escape but to have fun denying the killer at any possibility.
And thanks to comms and so on they most likely might even succeed against average killer, maybe less since MMR.

That would make sense if we didnt already have maps which do the aura reading WAY better than key's aura reading. And not just that if u find keys in chest it has no add-on's so what is the point? Im glad the keys got nerfed but like everything else, BHVR don't plan ahead on how this item will be used in the future.
I would have to guess that this hatch change is also just a stop gap before the announced complete overhaul of both keys and moris.
But that's only the fools hope speaking out of me and that change might also end like early game collapse and other things that had been staying to long on the drawing board until they got finally scrapped.
@Icaurs i guess they hopefully forgot to mention that hatch still spawns closed when the gates are powered (maybe because it's not a "change" per se)
And then it is still an alternative with multiple people at end game to circumvent bad gate spawns.
If not then they again managed to take only half of the community feedback. Nearly every post i saw that proposed hatch spawn changes to "last survivor standing" had also "all gens done" as spawning requirement. But maybe behaviour stopped reading after the first half and did a bad job again.

Sorry didn't read the discussion but that title made me legit chuckle.
People still have some kind of expectations or hope 😂
Maybe 2 new Halloween skin that are buyable and a little bit of decoration on hooks and gens. More is the reduction down to two evenzt per year not worth I guess.
Takes way too much time for the crative department to rush the next chapter and 20 cosmetics per 3 months. And then there is the dev team trying to fix what breaks everytime.

No it does not mean they are a baby killer just a bad one. Though it depends on the situation.
If you camped and tunneled and couldn’t even get 1 kill (for an example). That is pretty bad IMO. You did not bother to chase/apply pressure (where it mattered)/did not mind-game because you never chased/You never hooked more than 1 survivor.
I would never not call someone an amateur if they opted for the cheapest tactic in the book and couldn’t even get that survivor killed.
That's an interesting take but let's imagine the following:
The killer plays fair for the whole match gets some distributed hooks and boom endgame but no one dead. Now the killer opts to tunnel an injured survivor out and camp them for the kill. The other three come in and save with BT, block the killer after the BT hit and survivor has still the DS/UB combo since there was no tunneling or slugging up until this point. Doors are normally 99% or open at this point normally.
Now tell what a killer in general is supposed to do in this circumstances which aren't rare given the killer would play fair and distribute his hookings and survivor run preemptively meta perks?
If the killer only opts to camp/tunnel/slug at that point then they might as well go afk.
Not that any of that concerns me since I don't even try anything more than aiming for 2 hooks each and 4 escape in general.

Well that's good for you then. (No sarcasm or cynism)
I am still hesitant to play solo survivor for the first time since I have low self esteem and am afraid to be one of the brain dead teammates to others.
Not a real healthy mind set if it has so much control over me, I know, but at least i feel some responsibility in every aspect of my life instead of giving no crap like some other special individuals once the person becomes anonymous and unpunishable.

It goes to show that only with survivor and killer together there can be a game.
Maybe we should address things frustration to all people on both sides that take pride and fun in kicking the opposition once it's down or it is obvious that they got outmatched by the system.
But nope both sides have people perpetuating the endless cycle of hate and toxicity, which makes people either join or give up left and right.

You can tell it is a survivor main because they do not know the word "kill."
Do not let those little psychos get you down. That is all they have, their frustrations. It is like a little 5 year old screaming into a pillow, fam. They just do not know any better. But the pillow just has to take it, because it is a pillow. Sad fate for the pillow, but you are better than that because you are not a pillow. This is the wisdom of the Bodhisattva.
I guess you probably already know that but using u alive instead of kill in this circumstances is simply a way to circumvent the chat filter and dodge any form of automated chat based Ban system.
It really amazing how much effort and creativity people put into this to be jerks in online Video Games.
-
I play like this for the last two years. I go for the 2 hooks each if the round lasts that long and then goof around if the survivor still didn't manage to finish the gens given this awefully soft pressure. Or i start killing them when they take too long.
I always give last survivor hatch except when i try to go for the last few adepts. (Hag game on rpd by survivor map offering only ended in brutal yesterday thanks to silver chaser -.-)
Let me ask you this, why should I try to "win" when all it gets me are harder trials against lobbies with increasing chance of getting full 4 men's that only "chill" with the advantage of preselected teammates and coverage of 10+ aura reading perks via comms?
I play to provide a certain amount of action but only to the degree where I don't sweat. And if the survivor take all the control from me aka they are all better at looping and then even try to deny the hook attempt by group bodyblocking, then i simply have no drive to play against that.
One side can chill with friends while the other has to juggle attention between 16 objectives (4survivor, 7 gens and 5 totems depending on if hex perks are used).

Listen sunshine, i generally main survivor, but i do play killer from time to time and i do not have the problems you are describing, and i am relatively bad as killer. So, buckle up, try to improve and then your matches will be better. In the time it took you to write "another troll comment" you could have easily watched a video or two and learned something.
I never understood this argument: "Mostly play survivor but the few times a month j play killer it's easy and I don't have the problems described?"
Yeah, like no ######### Sherlock. Playing killer in what is basically old grey ranks (20-17) due to the infrequently playing is of course easy. Play only killer for a longer time straight and get up into skill brackets equal to deserved purple/red ranks and then come back to talk.
Same on survivor side. First play enough to play with bad (low MMR) and good (high MMR) teammates to make rational informend comments.

2.) DBD can be very frustrating between bugs and the very high skill ceiling, and players can become miserable. "Misery loves company" as the saying goes, so them making you miserable makes them feel a little less miserable.
Can't remember the last time I got a "gg" back. They're usually silent or insulting me in post game chat. Guess that's the Internet for you.
Yeah mostly silence in my "friendly" killer rounds and the rare GG's here and there when I get completely destroyed with 1 or 2 hooks.
Getting props for playing "fair" andor letting them go are even more rare.
