Must you M1 the snowman as killer or could you break it with, say, Demo's Lunge?
As survivor I got sparkles when Victor hit me in one, I don't know if it made killer sparkle too though. If it did I would think Demo shred would count.

They really need to stop making charms be for one side and let both sides use them. It's totally unnecessary.

I think the 2k thing is an increasing tendency among killers to 'manage' their MMR.
I'll play some more matches out, but I'm already seeing more people using the snowmen for a pretty significant advantage moreso than 'having fun'.
Until today I haven't seen it, if it was a 2k it wasn't because the killer let it be one.
My only advice is just don't take it so seriously. Meme around and have fun. I mean if you just goof off with survivors for the event you could just end up dropping killer mmr and get less sweaty matches that way.

Imagine if this had been reversed, and the killer got a speed boost from popping a snowman, or they left survivors with the Exposed status after interacting?
I have a feeling that the same people going 'lol it's just an game why u taek it so serious relax' would be up in arms.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2688333#Comment_2688333
See, now there's an idea I could get behind.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2688335#Comment_2688335
Sigh.
- That's not a mechanical difference.
- Sure, killers can camp any gen, much like survivors can sabo/bodyblock any hook. I'm...not sure what point you are trying to make here. If the event hooks gave Mangled or something, that would be comparable.
- Killers have a lot less free time to chase glyphs than survivors do, and chasing a purple glyph is pretty much giving out free escapes unless you are already winning.
I'm honestly not sure what you think you are arguing here - but I'm not seeing your point. This isn't about how hard it is for either side to get the event bonus, it's about how the event gimmick amounts to a pretty strong extra tool that only benefits one side.
The comment I responded to (which was responding to something I had said) said that on killer side you can only m1, you can't goof off in the snowmen like survivors. There was nothing in my original comment, their comment or my response about the snowmen being an extra tool - that is something you are bringing up. My response was examples of how the killer side usually gets to relax/goof off while survivors have to put in work for their rewards and that their rewards are generally easily prevented - for once we have an event where this is not the case.
My point wasn't about who has a harder time but rather for once survivors have an event where they can relax and have fun. Both killers and survivors get BP from the snowmen. Both killers and survivors get cosmetics easily. Survivors for once can goof off instead of having to genrush to get their cosmetics.

I'm not seeing anyone playing less sweatily or being less BM when they win.
It's quite frustrating when you don't get that one really important down because someone popped into a snowman, resulting in you getting a 0k.
I think people are just tense because this is another event gimmick that offers benefits to only one side.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2688187#Comment_2688187
Sure. But at the end of the day, this isn't Minecraft.
This is an APvP game with a winner and a loser, and giving survivors yet another defensive tool as an event gimmick without, say, also giving killers something - yeah, people are going to be annoyed.
The pumpkins, for example were well done. Both killers and survivors could benefit from the RNG speed boost.
I guess those have been your matches, I've definitely seen a decrease in sweat in my matches. There have still been sweaty matches but most are just chilling out a bit. Killers seem to be going for 2k and then backing off. Survivors not needing to escape for cosmetics has made them not just focus on escaping as fast is possible like with Anniversary event. Both sides seem to want to enjoy event a little bit in my matches. Maybe I finally have a good MMR where people want to have fun and not either hide entire match or play like they are in a competition.

But thats only on the survivor side on the killer side its just something else to m1. Sure its funny to watch survivors goof off in them but that only last so long.
Anniversary event survivors had to work to escape to get their crowns while killers just had to not DC. Halloween killers could camp a gen to prevent survivors from getting any event points and until this year survivors weren't able to sabo event hooks. Blue glyph challenges for survivor make them blind or oblivious and yellow glyph they have to hit rapid fire skill checks (both survivors need to run around to find with only sound to help) meanwhile purple glyph killer just needs to find their glyph that leaves bright trail and shows aura anytime someone is hooked. This is one event that survivors can actually have fun with and not be completely prevented from participating in by killers.

My only goal is to escape inside one.
Scratch that, I have a second goal. Get a killer to play along as though they don't see the Snowman moving.
I had a niceish Wraith my first match, after he killed 2 players he let myself and the other random player do gens and leave. Think he was nice to us because while he mori'd the other two we hopped in snowmen and just started goofing around thinking we were screwed anyway and he was amused when he saw us. I ran to nearby Snowman after opening exit gate and was worried time would run out because I was moving so slow. The Wraith just stood there watching me. ๐ I'm just happy I escaped once in a Snowman. I'm disappointed it explodes when you exit like when you jump out in game, I really wanted to watch the snowman slowly move away from the match. ๐
-
Yes. They are too much fun to goof around in instead of actually playing the game. ๐
-
If Doctor shocks a survivor in a snowman it's the same thing, get shocked out with no sparkle.
Plague can puke on you but atleast you stay in the snowman getting sick. ๐
-
Is there a max amount of event BP you can get from smashing snowmen? I was going around smashing them as killer after farming with the survivors in the match, I was waiting for them to finish gens. At a certain point I stopped getting the scoring event. I only had like 3k BP over what my score should've been.

I realized it when I wrote it ๐

@Hoodied said:
As someone who saw the leaks for this event (and knowing that you donโt get a speed boost for getting hit iirc)
this just seems more like complaining about a casual game mode more than anything, 1 free health state but the snowman is broken for 300 seconds before respawning, you move incredibly slow, its incredibly loud, you canโt see auras, and you are not hidden, you can also destroy these snowman before the survivors can even use them (I havenโt updated dbd yet iโm too busy trying to complete infinite warfare zombies and iโm struggling alot at it lmao) and I donโt even think you go into a full cooldown from hitting survivors in snowmen
I swear people ask for something new then get upset when we get something new
That's about right. The cooldown is like if you hit a wall instead of person - slows you down for a second but that's it. Everyone I've seen do this when spectating gets downed few seconds after the snowman hit. If you're playing competitively it's horrible extra few seconds, if you play casual it's fun. I'm enjoying how my matches are - not needing to escape has everyone chilling out instead of seeing who can escape/kill faster.
-
I played a couple killer matches. One match survivors refused to hop into snowmen the other they would pop out anytime I got close. I was even playing nice not hitting anyone, just being Doctor shocking them off gens and then kicking the gen. Guess they didn't want cosmetics. ๐
-
@Shaped said:
I don't think I understood correctly what needs to be done. I only got the reward the first time when Blight hit me while I was in a snowman but after doing that in other matches, I don't get anything anymore.
What am I doing wrong?
As survivor you either need killer to hit you so you become sparkly (doesn't matter if you die or escape) OR if not sparkly you exit match in snowman. As killer you have to hit a survivor in a snowman (you'll get sparkle effect on your screen).
-
It's a killer challenge so make sure you're playing as them.
They make a sound like the other glyphs when you're nearby. Moves pretty slow so if you see purple on ground it's nearby. If you hook survivors you will see the aura for couple seconds.
-
I love that you still get a reward even if you die and you can play as whatever character you want. So far I've really enjoyed my matches both as killer and survivor.

I have news for everyone (especially our PC friends).
I have recently acquired a Series X. This allows me to play DBD and have a much better experience.
I assure you all, I am not going to give up this fight. I am keeping my Xbox One X and will be continuing to test performance whenever a new patch comes out.
I will also be reporting on any issues affecting the Series X (which I hope are few).
That being said, I am comfortable enough with the performance on the Series X to turn Crossplay on. So, who knows, I may see more of you out in the Fog ;)
That's awesome you were able to upgrade. Glad to hear it runs well enough for you to turn crossplay on.
2 matches in on the event. First match against Wraith on new map and game ran fine, no issues hopping in/out of snowmen or getting hit in them. Second match on RPD against Artist was terrible though. I don't know what the trigger was, maybe she hit someone in snowman suit or they hopped out or maybe it was something else, whatever it was I had full on 5+ second freeze while running down a hallway where I thought the game was going to crash.

I agree with you that because of the Hatch change Challenges that involve it are not fair. I'm just trying to give some suggestions on how to help make it easier because we've got Hatch Challenges and will get more Hatch Challenges, it's just how the devs work.
And to each their own, I could not care less about my MMR, because it is a number I can't see and having high MMR means I have less fun games. I am very willing to tank my MMR as Survivor and the only reason I'm not already doing so is because I'm trying to reach Rank 1 for the Achievement. I understand that other people care about their MMR and that it is a factor in these Challenges but it's not a major factor.
Really your best bet would be to find three other people to SWF with. If you lack friends (like myself) there are a lot of recourses to find them. Make a thread on the forums here looking for a group, or join Twitch streamer Discord and pair up with them when you can. You don't HAVE to do these things solo, and until you can try them with SWF do others.
It doesn't fix the problem, but with this game and the devs working on it we kind of just have to learn to deal with stuff like this because if it ever gets fixed it'll take years and then it might be "fixed".
Wait, I just saw you made a post (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/299164/please-stop-asking-us-to-break-pallets#latest) asking for them to stop adding breaking pallet challenges because it's out of the control of the killer if a survivor drops a pallet and for it to be easier you need to play friendly. Then you came in here saying "we just have to learn to deal with this stuff" when I said hatch challenges should no longer be added since the change in mechanic because they require too much out of your control to complete and are only easier for 4SWF that can coordinate. You also said you don't care if you drop MMR in this post because you get easier matches, so wouldn't dropping MMR to get survivors to drop pallets be OK?
I'm sorry but the fact you argued against my points as survivor in here only to use same points as killer in different post is pretty ridiculous.

Again, I know that getting a 4SWF together would be the easiest way - I have acknowledged that in my original post as well as in comments. I know there are sections here in the forums and on discord to find people to play with. The problem is that the challenges shouldn't be forcing people into a 4SWF in the first place. This is an issue in many parts of DBD, the devs keep forgetting there are players that are solo that are being left behind in balance because they only think of 4SWF. Now not only is it balance but it's Tome challenges as well and that's not OK.
Changing a Tome challenge to not involve a hatch would not be something that "takes years to fix", on first archive they changed challenges involving EGC while that rift was still open. All they have to do is change this challenge to do something that would actually make Alert useful like dropping pallets/working on gens and then make a note to not add anymore hatch challenges in future Tomes.
-
Think it starts at 11AM EST so still have about an hour and a half until it starts.
-
Meh. I'm not a fan of the "survivors need to escape to earn the cosmetics but killers just doesn't DC to earn cosmetics" - matches just become super rushed and unfun. Also concerned about the snowmen causing performance issues on console like the pumpkins at Halloween.
-
@vladspellbinder said:
I don't know if console players can chat in the lobby before game as I am a PC player but if you're on PC and have cross-play off you can just use the lobby chat to ask people to leave so you can find Hatch. It's not a perfect solution but it helps somewhat. Another option is as you said going S.W.F. and if you lack people to do that with again, use a lobby chat if you can or messaging on console, asking the people you just played with to team-up to try and help out.
But I do agree, with the changes to Hatch spawning any such Challenges are indeed much harder to do. As Killer I've seen several Hatch escapes and as Survivor I've gotten two myself and seen a few more but they are not as easy as they once were.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2685918#Comment_2685918
Not undo, but change. There NEEDED to be a change to Hatch and slash or Keys, they were WAY too powerful before. The change I WANTED to see done was "Hatch only spawns when five generators are fully repaired", none of that "(gens done) = (live Survivors +1)" math. The main problem a lot of Killer players had was with two or three people managing to escape via the Hatch without having to finish the last one or two gens, making any sort of three-gen useless. Remove the Hatch math and you remove that problem. The devs just went a bit too far in the other direction is all.
Console doesn't have chat, even if it did it would take the entire time of 1 minute in lobby to type out anything with a controller. Same goes for typing out a message to anyone - and that's if they don't have their profile set to private to avoid the toxic messages that come with this game. Like I said before a 4SWF can coordinate for this challenge to work, all the others just need 1 random to prevent them from getting hatch - that's not OK.
I know hatch is possible, I'm not saying it's not. I've gotten hatch by pure luck of it opening next to me when killer has slugged for 4k. The problem is how you now need multiple things outside your control to now escape through the hatch. You need to be the last one in the match so either your whole team dies before last gen finishes (which would be best way outside a 4SWF to find hatch) or hope your team leaves before the EGC timer runs out (and hope none of the randoms are also running the same challenge and waiting for people to leave). If you had to wait for team to leave during EGC timer you need to hope you can find the hatch before the timer runs out.
This challenge also does not help your MMR - you could die trying which will lower your MMR or you escape through hatch and your MMR doesn't go up because hatch escapes don't count towards MMR.
-
I don't know if it will be a licensed game, I'm hoping it will be an original horror game that is multi-player.

I can't wait for all the randoms to hide for the entire match waiting for everyone to die so they can get hatch while running Alert.

Because the more it happens, the penalty increases
Unless Steam is kicking you off multiple times in short period the penalty isn't increasing - if you're getting more than 5 minutes that means you are DCing outside of Steam being down.

@Laluzi said:
Please. Trying to get hatch in solo queue is hell because survivors love to wait at the gates until the end of the collapse, either because they want to spite the killer, they want to spite you, or because they mistakenly want to help you and end up getting you killed. Used to be you'd just die on the hatch, now you straight up don't have enough time to look for it when people will only leave with 15 seconds left in the game.
It is easier to get hatch by means of a chill killer when you all die than it is to get it in a game where you could have escaped out the gates. That's how stupid it is.
That's the thing, not only do you need to wait for everyone else to leave but you also need to find it. Before you could bring a key and leave during EGC if people decided to hang back until time runs out but now that isn't even an option. In 4SWF you can coordinate leaving but 3SWF/2SWF/Solo you can have just 1 survivor staying back that prevents you from completing the challenge.
People HATE the challenge of "have others escape while you're still alive" because it's basically the same thing - you need the randoms to just leave but alot of times they just hang back.
-
The matchmaking I get feels like when during rank matchmaking it would be rainbow ranks - teammates feel like mix of brand new and veteran while killer can go either way. I really wish they'd include more than just kills/escapes.
-
It looks fun, I'm hoping it comes to console.
-
Congrats!
-
They need to stop with hatch challenges on both sides since they changed the mechanic. Unless you're in a 4swf that can coordinate there's way too much you need to go in your favor.
Also, why Alert? Wouldn't it be better to have challenges that actually use the perk? Like repairing gens/dropping pallets give you more opportunities to see the Alert work, hatch has nothing to do with it. The challenges just having a random perk equipped that have nothing to do with the challenge makes it look like the devs don't even see them as being useful or have no idea what the perk actually does.

I got this year's Halloween skins, I'd be fine with them giving out those skins to those that didn't earn them. Same with the anniversary crowns and outfits. Honestly I'm fine with the event cosmetics getting released to everyone after a year. Exclusive for a year and then everyone can have them. Most just hoard them in their inventory never wearing them and only care if someone else might get them. It'd be good for them to actually stop with exclusives.

Just a correction on that, I think some segment of their services specifically for video games have gone down.
If the entirety of AWS went down, you'd be seeing WAY more services than video games having issues (basically all of them lol) and you'd be more worried.
There are more than just games impacted by AWS being down. CNBC reported multiple services outside trading including streaming and trading.

It's 3, probably because I hunt those totems with Small Game. Thankfully, Small Game also tells me if someone else broke one.
In 104 games, I have seen 5 totems cleansed 5 times.
My swf teammate runs Detectives Hunch, between 2 of us we can get all 5 done but it definitely depends on our teammates and the killer. It's not every match we are getting all cleansed, usually it's a NOED match when we missed 1. ๐

As a killer, always use headphones and learn to track survivors by sound. Listen for generators, especially sounds of them repairing them, and their breathing and footsteps. If you are in a chase and they duck behind a wall you can still usually hear where they are. Listen for where Boon totems are so you can snuff them when you have a moment. Listen for survivors running behind you for a possible flashlight or pallet save when you down someone, and for them running into nearby lockers, etc.
Basically you should be using your ears as much as your eyes as a killer. And headphones make a massive difference in being able to tell the direction and distance of the sound. All killers benefit from using headphones, not just Spirit.
Headphones also help as survivor - can hear stealth killers breathing/footsteps, listen for hex totems, and hear direction of killer heartbeat.
