  • Thank you. In Hindsight I probably should have used "submerged" instead of "buried", but ah well.

While people may disagree, I started playing this game due to its simplicity.

I do not want some Worldcraft toolbar across my screen with 20 different F key buttons to mash, I like this game for lack of looting things, bank system,s, and too many toolbar icons.

    I like the simple.

My roommate recently told me he liked playing dead by Daylight over other games for this exact reason. The core gameplay is relatively simple.

"The only reason BHVR doesn't do more balance changes is because they're unwilling to do so."

"The devs spend more time getting hold of licenses and going through legal channels to add licensed stuff than they do making sure the balance of what they add is good, and that's the problem."

Oh sorry, I did not recognize that you have ABSOLUTE KNOWLEDGE, and know everything that's going on at BHVR, so your judgement must be the ultimate right, my bad.

"90% of perks are worthless and rightfully go completely ignored and unused."

Thats complete bs. Yes there are weak perks, esp. the recent ones. You wrote in your last comment, in 100 games you wouldn't encoutner more than 30 different perks. I challenge you to actually do that and keep track of the used perks. There will be more, I'm certain of that. Of course not all are as good as the meta perks, but there are far more that you claim to be worthless which are actually quite decent. Why don't you list me the 10% perks you deem to be useful, and list you additional perks you missed?

I don't get this omnipresent hate towards the devs in this forum. It seems they can do nothing right, everthing that happens is blamed on them. Even bullshit talking points like you are using, which are no real issue or higjhly exagerated (imo). And all the things the get right are just totally ignored, or get spinned in the opposite direction. A recent example is the billy rework. The whole forum whining about that he was nerfed to much (which he was, to bo fair) and ADDITIONALY, thet BHVR will NEVER change anything after the PTB, bc the do not listen. Then they actually DO listen, tweak the heat mechanic, so its not as punishing, and then there's whining that the devs cater for killers. Like SERIOUSLY??

The short version is people are jerks who tend to accentuate the negative.

I've seen the same thing. The devs so much as breathe and people go nuts with complaining. Makes it very hard to take that complaining seriously, since the sea of negativity drowns out any legitimate issues that might be buried in the vitriol.

  • I've taken to running Borrowed Time alongside Babysitter. I try not to make stupid saves with it, since part of the idea is to use Babysitter to give them a chance to get away, but I have gone for the occasional YOLO Save.

  • @Mister_xD said:

i dislike it for the fact that it just encourages hookfarming.

i guarantee you, if BT didnt exist 75% of the unhooks in the killers face wouldnt happen.

they should change it so the unhooker gets the unsafe unhook penalities when the unhooked survivor gets hit, not when they go down withing 10 seconds of being unhooked.

just so its no longer a guaranteed safe unhook for the hoor farmers.

Don't be so sure. I had a game recently where a Kate unhooked in my face twice without Borrowed Time. I know she didn't have it because, while I won't actively tunnel a freshly unhooked Survivor, I will attack them if given the opportunity, and I downed the rescuee both times. Rather than re-hook though, I just went after the Kate each time and hooked her.

  • Someone once told me that learning to throw the Clown's bottles accurately can help with other Killers with similar distance mechanics. My case was specific to learning the distances for Nurse blinks, though I imagine Huntress hatchets would qualify too.

I'm not 100% sure seriously to take that, but it was interesting nonetheless.

    Yes.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1468164#Comment_1468164

You're comparing 3 perks to 1 perk. The synergy of 75% of your loadout should be better than 25% of your loadout.

The point remains that your Lucky Break is too easily made into a broken and abusable combo. It's all upside with no down to balance it. Bond and Empathy let you see your teammates, but only within a certain distance/ if they're hurt.

If you want to improve it, my thought would be either make it permanent while lessening bleeding, instead of stopping it, or leave it as no bleeding but make it rechargeable by being in at full health.

  • @6yXJI0 said:

    Is Lucky Break Permanent?

If so, then it's likely too powerful. Combo it with Iron Will and Unbreakable and you get a more powerful No Mither with no downsides.

If we want to make Lucky Break's effect permanent it should lessen the blood flow, but not stop it entirely.

  • Tunneling is the one thing I loathe running into as Survivor. When I play killer I won't tunnel. I will slug off the hook of the opportunity presents itself before chasing the rescuer; either the rescuer had Borrowed Time and the freed Survivor has to stop and mend, or the rescuer doesn't and I keep that person off of gens until they get picked up. If the person has Unbreakable, either they're forced to use it or they get picked up and it takes the healer from what they're doing.

One way or another, I'm letting up to 2 or 3 people off gens for at least a little while.

  • Unless you're on Xbox One, it's still happening because the MMR the devs are planning to start trying to use hasn't been implemented yet.

If you are on Xbox One, then I don't know and can only assume the MMR isn't working as planned and/ or isn't fully settled in yet.

  • If you plan to camp, isn't Make Your Choice a waste of a perk, since it explicitly requires you not camp the hook?

  • The premise behind Sole Survivor is, at mentioned, you get buffs for every Survivor taken out of the game. A better buff might be something similar to what Left Behind used to do: offer action speed increases for each Survivor removed from the board. Nothing crazy like double digit percent, but enough that it provides a noticeable benefit. Or maybe add a benefit for each removed Survivor. As an off the cuff example

1 kill: increased chance to kobe

    2 kills: increased action speed

3 kills: Not immediately killed on hook if in phase one

For Overwhelming Presence, would it be too powerful to items unusable, period, while in the Killer's terror radius? If so, would a reduced TR mitigate that?

A lot of people, including myself, only use it to reduce the grind and the aura reading is just a bonus. I think they should keep it like that but buff the survivors version of it to see the killers aura for a few seconds after a unhook.

Hell, half the time I legitimately forget to check for auras.

    @Peanits said:

BBQ & Chilli is only active for 4 seconds after they hook someone. There's no reason to stay there for the entire game. All you gotta' do is get to a locker when someone gets picked up, get in the locker, wait for them to be hooked, then count 4 Mississippis (5 if you're a fast counter and want to be safe). Then you're free to carry on doing whatever you were doing.

Personally I usually go by when the sound effect bubble from the hooked Survivor's scream fades away.

Oh wow! so its actually not for ps4 and xbox cross play... interesting. atleast for now anyway. thanks for that

That's Cross-Progression, not to be confused with Cross-Play. Cross-Play, playing with people across multiple platforms, is sounding like it'll be more across the board.

  • @csandman1977 said:

I thought cross progression was still somethung they were working on but no idea when and if it will happen?

From their own most recent update: https://deadbydaylight.com/en/news/breaking-barriers-with-cross-play-and-cross-progression

"We are thrilled to announce that we are preparing the first steps toward Cross-Progression and that it will be available for Steam, Google Stadia and Nintendo Switch in September! Players will be able to share their progression, purchases, and inventory on those 3 platforms –   Exceptions might have to be made to accommodate for some external licensing needs."

  • There is also cross progression planned between PC, Switch, and something called Google Stadia, so any Switch progress should, on theory, cross over to PC if you decide to change to it at any point.

  • I can actually demonstrate my reaction to seeing my roommate and friend end up on the wrong end of Blood Warden with this Twitch clip.

Short version: I found it hilarious. Partly because we were playing on Switch, where BW is not common since Freddy isn't in it (thus the only way currently to get the perk is nab it on the Shrine of Secrets) so I got a kick out of how unexpected it was. Plus in the clip you'll see it visible before any of us react to it.

  • I agree being activateable at will is too strong. Having Cruel Limits kick in around the Killer is one thing, but possibly still have it kick in only when a generator is completed. If you're in a chase when it happens, too bad for the Survivor. If not, depending on who's around and how long it lasts, could still be useful. Worst case? Tough luck.

  • @Throwaway123 said:

Every day I will propose changes to 1 survivor perk and 1 killer perk to make them not unusable garbage like most perks are.

Survivor Perk: Slippery Meat - You're a difficult target to keep hold of. Your progress your wiggle meter 50% 30% faster while being carried. If you get off of a Killer's shoulder, leave no scratch marks for 5 seconds. If a Killer puts you on the ground off their shoulder, convert your wiggle progress to recovery from the Dying State, up to 40/50/60%. You have 3 additional attempts to escape the hook.

Killer Perk: Mindbreaker - Your prey gets weaker as time goes on. While repairing generators that are more than 50/40/30% complete survivors are afflicted with the Oblivious status effect. When a survivor ends the repair action they are afflicted with the Mind Broken status effect for duration equivalent to the completion of the generator up to a max of 15/30/45 seconds. A Mind Broken survivor cannot activate exhaustion perks, but will recover from Mind Broken even while running.

Justifications: Slippery Meat as it is right now is a meme perk used to Kobe off a hook. It also has minor use in countering one Killer who is so weak that noone should need any help countering him. This change gives use to Slippery Meat outside of the Trapper matchup and gives more incentive for teammates to tank protection hits to save a teammate off the Killer's shoulder. Additionally, the choice for Killers to drop a survivor to chase another or not will be harder with this perk. Additional hook escapes have been kept for meme purposes.

Mindbreaker's purpose seems to be to counter exhaustion perks, but as it exists now works as a 5'th perk for all survivors because it's just that bad. With these changes it's more dangerous to repair generators that are further along and survivors will have to keep a more vigilant eye out. The Mind Broken status effect works as an actual counter to exhaustion perks and more importantly, a punishment for gen tapping.

I have proposed 6 perk changes so far. BHVR has made 0 perk changes since I started.

*Edit* Changed Slippery Meat's wiggle progress from 50% to 30% after a helpful comment.

My own idea for Mindbreaker was the Exhaustion it afflicts is cumulative. The longer you spend on a generator, the longer the Mindbreaker effect lasts once you're off of it or hit that 50% marker. The maximum length of that Exhasution would increase by level. Could also make it a good perk to pair with a Killer that can keep people off gens and/or with Hex: Ruin.

  • @Throwaway123 said:

Every day I will propose changes to 1 survivor perk and 1 killer perk to make them not unusable garbage like most perks are.

Survivor Perk: No Mither - You are affected by the Broken Status Effect for the duration of the Trial. Your injured state is hidden from the killer, you move as if you are uninjured. You do not leave pools of blood. Your injured grunts are muffled by 25/50/75%. Grants the ability to instantly recover yourself or an ally from the dying state once per game. You gain 50/75/100% bonus to bloodpoint gains.

Killer Perk: Territorial Imperative - You are granted 3 tokens which may be used on any hooks. The 24 meter radius around that hook and the basement becomes your territory. Any time a survivor enters your territory receive an alert and the corresponding hook will glow. If a survivor enters your territory while you are 40 meters or more away reveal their aura for 3 seconds.

Justifications: One of the weaknesses of No Mither is the killer knowing you'll go down in 1 hit, making their status hidden will help prevent the killer immediately targeting the No Mither survivor; survivors will still see the broken status on their teammate. Grunts are muffled more. Allowing the user to immediately pick up themselves or a teammate may provide a sufficiently strong ability to make up for having 1 hit all game. This would probably still be too weak, but it's hard to justify being injured all game without giving a truly op ability. Also bonus BP for choosing to play hard mode.

The thought behind Territorial Imperative is in allowing the killer to build an actual Territory. 3 Territories may be too much, but I can't playtest the idea. The idea at least is more interesting than just knowing if someone far away from you entered the basement imo.

I have proposed 4 perk changes so far. BHVR has made 0 perk changes since I started.

I once saw a suggestion for No Mither that, rather than leave you permanently Broken, it instead leave you Permanently Exposed. You still get benefits from being injured, but if it's not in your interest for some reason (vs an Oni, for example) you can heal out of it.

For Territorial Imperative, I once had the idea of the Killer getting a speed boost when moving in the direction of the Basement/Basement Hooks. Or otherwise getting Haste when the effect has triggered.

I have a fondness for the Pig. She was the first Killer I ever 4k'd with. That said, if I had to say which Killer I'm best with, I'd say the Doctor. He's the one I most enjoy playing so he's the one I've gotten good with. I'm decent with Nurse and taking some time to learn Demogorgon, and can do all right with most killers. The ones I feel give me the most trouble are Hillbilly, Leatherface, and Oni. The chainsaw and/or charging mechanics are a bit unwieldy for me.

I played a game were as soon as I got hooked the killer just downed me again I don't have a problem with tunneling camping slugging etc but it just ruins the fun when a killer downs you as soon as you get off the hook. Obviously, in certain situations you have to do that but not when only 1 gen has been completed it would be nice if survivors could get immunity for them to at least get away.

I confess that, when I play Killer, I'll down someone just rescued off the hook if I'm able. However, because that kind of thing annoys me just as much when I play Survivor, I'll at least not re-hook them right away and won't impede pickup. I'll just slug them to maintain pressure and go after the unhooker.

I appreciate it's probably frustrating to the Survivor, though it does help maintain pressure by keeping at up to three people off gens for a period of time (the unhooker, the unhookee, and whoever goes for the pickup while I'm after the unhooker). On a slightly more vindictive note, it denies the unhooker any extra points/emblems for safe unhooks so their farm achieves as little as possible.

    @Doctor_Grizz said:

I know the feeling, I always use Borrowed Time so no farming would be possible

I've also taken to using Borrowed Time and Babysitter as Survivor to help give anyone I unhook the best chance possible.

  • I'm honestly not expecting Cross- Progression to include anything bought with Auric Cells/ Real Money. It's easy to see those being excluded since BHVR alone doesn't profit from those.

  • Just for the sake of being thorough, Static Blast (the area of effect shock) does not prevent actions from being performed.

I just played the game for 3 weeks, I learned everything but still didn't understand that big toxicity. There's always a toxic person in every match, teabagging, flash spamming is eveywhere, there is also a guide called "How to be a toxic survivor on DBD?" Why? Why so toxic man? And whose fault is that? I reported at least 5 person who has toxic behaviour, none of them banned I think. Whose fault is that?

It's humanity's fault. People are jerks. Only thing you can do is not be toxic yourself. It's why I play Killer, personally. Survivors want to be toxic then I at least have a chance to do something about it. Someone d/cs and screws over everyone else, I'm happy to turn it into a farm session and let the rest go. I get points either way, and I don't give a damn about rank, so why should I care?

  • @Pawcelot said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1450501#Comment_1450501

It only procs on normal m1 downs, so it is not suitable for a killer who can down with their power (Huntress, Hillbilly etc).

Hence "I also agree it's most effective on M1 dependent Killers like Legion or Doctor."

  • I leveled up Surge to try Archdruiddrey's regular Doctor build for myself (BBQ, STBFL, Iron Maiden, Surge) and I've grown to like it as a nice convenience perk. It's probably the most replaceable perk in the build, but not having to stop to kick a gen to make it regress can be useful, nonetheless. I take the slightly lower regression as a trade off for that convenience.

I also agree it's most effective on M1 dependent Killers like Legion or Doctor.

  • To me I think a lot of it depends on how seriously you take the game in the first place. I tend to play Survivor more seriously than Killer, so I find it the more stressful role to play. I get annoyed at tunneling killers, or Survivors that won't help or do gens. As Killer, how sweaty the Killer acts is entirely my own choice and if Survivors want to be jerks, I'm in a position to actually do something about it.

  • They could do what they've done with Killers, and create add-ons with traits similar their teachables, or make existing ones more likely in certain characters' bloodwebs. Like the key-addon that gives you bond for Dwight, or Medkit addons that give faster healing for Claudette, map tracking addons for Tapp, sabotage addons for Jake, etc.

  • Perk Inventory: A way to quickly see which characters have a specific perk.

Ex: look up Barbecue & Chili and you can see which Killers have it and at what rank.

You want to do a survivor build but forget why had Kindred or something. See who has the perks you want to use.

  • @DragonMasterDarren said:

This is where playing the Doctor comes into play. Use him with Restraint add-ons and Iron Maiden and people will have a much harder time hiding from you.

  • I'm more Doctor main than Nurse main, but I took up playing her a little while back as a challenge. I've done well enough on lower half ranks to 4k, but still have a ways to go. I haven't solidified my build just yet, though I do like using the "Make them scream" add-on for fun and Bloodpoints.

Skin-wise I like using the pumpkin head.

    "I'm proud of you son."

Space Billy: Dad, are you space?

A favorite of mine was being called the nicest Ghost Face ever after I let them farm (I think there was a dc or hook suicide)

  • I think a lot of it depends on how you play. They don't bother me too much, but I'm in mid-ranks and don't play in a way that would make them problematic.

Borrowed Time: I generally don't tunnel off hook, as tunneling is the one thing I absolutely loathe running into as Survivor. I do, however, slug off the hook. Either I knock someone down and keep up pressure by forcing someone to pick them up while I go for the unhooker, or they have BT and I keep that one person off gens just a little bit longer by forcing them to mend while I go for the unhooker.

Decisive Strike: Again, I don't tunnel enough to run into Decisive Strike often, and if I do slug off-hook as mentioned above, I don't impede the pickup. I'm still in mid-ranks though so I haven't run into people goading me into it by jumping into lockers. My hope is if I ever do run into that I'm playing the Trapper.

Unbreakable: Aside from the aforementioned off-hook slug and the occasional "someone else is here, too, I should go after them", I usually pick up right away so Unbreakable doesn't enter into things often.

  • I don't mind playing normally when cakes/BPS are on the table. What I personally don't get are the people who go out of their way to end the game stupidly early in that situation, or Killers who tunnel players out of the game super early, screwing them out of those points.

I'm partial to farming when they're used and I'm killer precisely because that annoys me so much. I'll play sweaty until, at minimum, I've got my Barbecue stacks. From there I'm fine screwing around until I've maxed out non-sacrifice points. After that I'll leave the survivors to their own devices, maybe harass them a bit out of boredom or to give them their own Boldness points, but I'm fine letting people go for the most part.

  • I've been tinkering with an anti tunneling build.

Babysitter and Borrowed Time to protect others, Decisive Strike to protect myself. Haven't worked out a good fourth perk yet so using the previously mentioned Kindred as it's already a favorite for punishing campers.

I've been considering Off the Record because, while Iron Will would be the better choice overall, OTR feels more on-theme. I don't use Dead Hard often but may try it. My issue there is often forgetting to use it when I have it.

So the minute that Silent Hill got released in DBD, I'm seeing the forums have spikes containing posts related to these 3 words exactly. "Fnaf in DBD".

Why exactly is that? We just see a single video-game licensed character and then I'm suddenly seeing posts left and right related to FnaF!

I think that's pretty much it, yeah.

  • I think the more telling thing that devs should pay attention to is that I don't think any streamers have touched the PTB since day one because it in general and Hillbilly in particular were a hot mess. I would think they'd pay attention to that because, while streamers are themselves a minority, they're a small group that reaches out to a much, much bigger one. Sort of like how that D/C Penalty hack was being looked into very soon after it got Tru3Ta1ent banned for 72 hours.

Hello fellow fog runners. I've come to a conclusion that makes me sad.. people just don't get it. Or maybe its ME that doesn't get it.. I'll explain..

I play survivor and killer mostly equally, but prefer killer. I am a huge fan of the original Texas chainsaw massacre for over 20 years so obviously main Leatherface.

After 3 years of playing, I've come to a point where literally 90 percent of my matches I find myself finding a corner to stand in so survivors can get some points so the match feels worthwhile to them.

In response to the hate mssgs I received when the game was new to me, I've learned what not to do (tunnel, camp, plank ppl for no reason, etc.) Playing survivor helped me also as I never do as killer what I hate being done to me as survivor.

This is my point I guess, I can come out of a match with 60-100k on average without actually killing anyone (I run BBQ, discordance, gearhead, and beast of prey.) And I feel good that everyone got a lot of points and had fun. I like playing games w survivors to make it interesting and have got nothing but good feedback from matches in the last couple years..

So question.. am I the only one that gets it? Cuz I'm sick to my stomach with the way killers play/act. It's attrocious the things ppl do "because they can"

Wake up killers, your not only hurting your own score by playing with no concience, keep in mind that NOBODY likes getting 3k points a match. It doesn't make you good friend, and karma will get you.

    See you in the fog.

    EmptyBore76

This is close to my own mindset. I tend to fluctuate on how sweaty I play. If a BPS or Cake is involved, or if someone D/Cs or hook-suicides, I'm fine with either farming or, at least, letting the Survivors go so they can get their own 5k+ Survival points. In the case of a player quitting, it's as much out of a feeling of punishing the person by making them lose out on points as much as giving something to the people who otherwise got scrwed. If those aren't a factor, I'll play more seriously, but if I find myself dominating early I'll pull back a bit, let them recover, and go from there. Basically I don't see the point in ending a game so quickly since it's I get more by letting things draw out a bit longer. If I'm playing a Killer I don't use often, or otherwise am not great with, I'll go full tryhard since it's less likely I'll dominate unless the Survivors are utter potatoes.

My one hard and fast rule is I don't tunnel. It's the one thing I hate running into when I play Survivor, so I make a point of not tunneling someone off hook. I will, if the opportunity presents itself, slug off hook to maintain pressure, but I won't re-hook them and won't interfere with their getting picked up.

  • Personally I like the scream. To be fair though that's because every since I see a Puppers video where he versed a Space Billy, I've come to imagine the Hillbilly speaking like the Space Sphere from Portal 2 (Prior to that it was Boomhauer from King of the Hill) Do when he screams I can imagine he's shouting "Spaaaaaaaaaace!"

  • Dark Devotion is my own "just what can I do with this?" Perk.

  • I've been contemplating an idea with the Hag combining it with Hex: The Third Seal and her Mint Rag addon (teleportto traps at will at the cost of a 15 second cooldown). Third Seal helps but wouldn't necessarily be essential, as you could kick a generator and then shoot off anywhere else on the map. Like stealthier Demogorgon portals.

Haven't fully worked it out, though. Maybe Brutal Strength to make the gen kicking faster

  • On a stream recently I saw someone make a suggestion I liked: Rather then No Mither giving permanent Broken status, it gives permanent Exposed status.

It fixes one big issue with NM: the Killer tunneling the No Mither because they know from the start that it's there. In fact, if the Killer isn't paying attention or gets the No Mither with an Instadown or Plague sickness, they might never realize it's in effect. It also prevents No Mither from giving Oni instant blood orbs since you start healthy and being Exposed instead of Broken offers the option of healing.

If you are injured, such as freshly saved from a hook or picking yourself up, the No Mither injured benefits still kick in, offering a tactical angle of healing to keep better hidden or staying injured with lower risk than normal.

My own idea has always just been a bonus to Boldness and/or Survival points the way perks like No One Left Behind, Distressing or Hex: Thrill of the Hunt offer bonus points.
