That.. is everything a multiplayer vs game is though. A battle of skill and improvement. You can't demand free kills in a shooter because you have bad aim, you can't demand invincibility from bullets because you struggle to dodge? A game like this absolutely should reward skill. Especially over a purchasable perk.

Yes, but skill is rewarded BY skill. Game features should not be gated behind them.

If you are good at cross map snipes, that's a boon in your favor. Making an add on that gives Exposed but only IF you can get a long distance shot is bogus. You are taking an already skilled play and making it even more destructive.

Killers cry rivers about gen rushing and when survs use boon totems the they cry about them

Killers do not cry about boon totems. It is the Circle of Healing that can be used an unlimited number of times and replaced if destroyed.

That's an issue with lack of counterplay, not too much of it. Specifically certain perks (DH best example) and bad map design turn very good survivors into largely invincible ones, and those are the things that should be looked at over making killers equally unhealthy to match.

Killers should be unhealthy to match. It is a 4 on 1. It is not supposed to be fair.

  • I can't answer this question, I'm not a biologist.

  • It does seem a little absurd that a good Survivor can "counterplay" a Killer into being utterly and completely ineffectual.

  • 1.) Run Dead Hard unless I need to for an Archive challenge.

    2.) Teabag a Killer.

3.) Attack a Killer for their playstyle. Killers can play how they want. If they Basement Bubba, camp, tunnel, AFK Pig, etc I just go on to the next match.

Skill is what a good games reward, if you aren't skilled, get better. Why should someone that has put in the effort to hone their skills get out perked instead of outplayed?

    Because they don't need it?

If you are capable of slam dunking a 12 hook game, over and over and over again, have a huge win rate, and rarely lose.... why they hell do you need to be "rewarded" even further? So you can win even HARDER? What is the point of that?

Being skilled at this game is ALREADY a huge advantage without piling it on.

  • Okay. I'll bite.

What IS the counterplay to Artist?

You know, aside from just running in a straight line and hoping she decides you are not worth the time investment?

  • I will never understand the reasoning behind "requires skill to..."

Why should good plays and effects be gated behind skill? That doesn't make any sense. If you are awesome at the game, that is a reward until itself. "Rewarding skilled play" is like a tax break for the rich.

  • A lot of times a Killer will do what they need to do to get their daily and then dip out.

I had a daily last week to get four Marked targets with Ghostface. The survivors absolutely made my life as miserable as humanly possible. The second I got my last Mark I went into the basement and faced the wall. Not worth it. They can teabag my AFK shell.

  • I am also that Survivor.

Borrowed Time / Prove Thyself / We're Gonna Live Forever / Circle of Healing.

After the update I'll probably trade out Circle back to We'll Make It.

Killer Mains will be against every Survivor Buff. Even if it does not really affect them, because DS-Skill Checks (at least on PC) are rarely missed IMO. (But on the other hand, tunneling Killers are swinging when picking up a Survivor who might have DS...as if that will make them miss, lel).

Personally, I think the Skill Check can be removed. It is a relict from a time where DS did not have an activation requirement other than just being picked up. And with Ds being that strong back in the day, a Skill Check was justified. Nowadays the Killer can decide if they want to deal with DS or not, it has an activation requirement and gets deactivated by basically doing anything.

I would rather see a Buff in the Anti-Tunnel aspect, but we know that BHVR will not do that. So, yeah... Skill Check can go, it is outdated.

"Killer Mains will be against every Survivor buff"

I can name TEN ways to improve Survivor gameplay. Buffing Meta perks ain't it.

If Decisive Strike needs a buff, it's a second use per game - one per hook state.

I just introduced the game to a friend the other day, and we’ve played about 10 matches, all of which my friend was tunneled out of the game every single time. And I don’t mean the kind of strategic tunneling. I mean the kind of tunneling where we have 5 gens left, the killer face camps the hook and completely ignores everyone else. I brought Borrowed Time, I tried body blocking, and by the 9th match, I even tried the annoying “clickly clicky look at me” flashlight strat, and nothing worked. (Mind you, we went against 2 Leatherfaces, a Hillbilly, 3 Sadakos, a Myers, 2 Wraiths and an Artist, all of which are a bit difficult to effectively body block with 1 teammate)

After the 4th match, I got him Laurie for DS, but he can’t hit the skill check to save his life. Hell, I have 2,000 hours in the game and I still miss the skill check a decent amount. Why do we have such a small skill check when DS is literally the only (self) anti tunnel perk? Shouldn’t it be a little easier to pull off, especially for newer players getting tunneled? Why not make the skill check success zone bigger like with madness skill checks or struggle skill checks? And the condition of deactivating if you miss it? That seems a bit unnecessary. The perk just feels purposefully designed to negatively affect newer players who get tunneled a lot. They find the one perk to help, only to have it waste a perk slot because they can’t pull it off.

Anyways, what’s all of your opinions on the DS skill check? And again, my suggestion is NOT to remove the skill check, just make it bigger to accommodate newer players / people who struggle hitting skill checks, and also to remove the condition that the perk deactivates if you miss it.

"And I don’t mean the kind of strategic tunneling"

All tunnelling is strategic. It removes a player from the game.

  • Exactly how much time and match data do you need to realize her Condemnation is utterly worthless?

I got a Survivor to full Condemnation ONCE in the entire time I've been playing her, even with Ring Drawing and spamming teleports with the Iridescent Tape.

And that one time I got him to the red oreo of death the Survivor managed to use a tape before I could down him. They are not even exposed.

  • As a Survivor:

Taking a Protection Hit. I like playing Heroically on my bloody P3 Leon.

    As a Killer:

Tunnelling a BMer out of the game and then starting a farm match with whoever didn't BM and letting them go. ESPECIALLY if the toxic Survivor hung out all the way until the end just to whine.

  • Deductive points is not the same thing as not condoning. It is incentive to go do something else. At no point have they condemned it. They just give you reasons to go do something else, like Devour Hope and BBQ & Chili.

If they had an issue with it, perks like Kinship would not exist to help you combat it.

I don't know if you have been playing this game long enough, but the hook timer used to pause when Survivors were on the hook and a killer was close. And then Survivors abused this by looping the hook in chase, and BHVR PROMPTLY REVERTED THE CHANGE.

I wonder if people who complain about this alleged "killers getting the best new perks all the time" even understand this game's perk system for killers. It's the exact same thing as the survivor perk system: You have to unequip a good perk to equip another. Killers don't get to stack additional good perks on top of their 4 perk slots, which is what these people make it sound like. And these perks we're getting are way worse than they make them out to be. "More new gen defence?!" Yes, but who uses Eruption? "More new Exposed perks?!" Yes, but who uses Starstruck?

Pretty much. It also goes to show you that there are no "sacred" perks in the Killer arsenal.

Oh I absolutely agree. No argument there.

I would even go so far as to say that even if every killer perk not involving either slowdown or generators in some way was removed from the game, there would probably still be more variety in killer meta than survivor meta as there's multiple ways to go about having a full slowdown build, whether that be ruin/undying/tinkerer +1, PR/DMS/deadlock/corrupt, ruin/pop/corrupt/NWO, ruin/undying/pentimento +1, or even corrupt/pop/brine/eruption, or anything else, vs. BT/prove/DH/IW or DH/DS/UB/COH, or any combination thereof.

I could run a game of Killer with Spies From the Shadows, I'm All Ears, Lethal Pursuer, and Franklin's Demise and still have fun. :P

It's more like if you banned DS and BT survivors likely wouldn't play anymore.

Some of the meta perks exist and are so popular because they give us a second chance against camping, tunneling and slugging which are otherwise helpless scenarios.

I am not sure about Decisive Strike, but Borrowed Time is practically required to play the game at this point.

It actually can be reportable if the killer stalls the game without trying to win. Doc can do it by keeping survivors in madness tier 3, not allowing them to work on gens, but also refusing to slug or hook them, meaning they can't escape and they can't die so their only option to end the match is disconnecting.

True, but that is not patrolling generators. Just putting the survivors in a bad gen spot is not reportable.

  • This is the rule of Ghostface:

You can be revealed through a solid wall, but you can't stalk through corn.

  • @ThiccBudhha said:

It is reportable, for you. The survivors can report YOU for "taking the game hostage" as you play your objective, or afk. Doesn't matter really, what matters is that the survivors who refuse to play are being held hostage. Yes, the game is so survivor sided that even the rules are rigged. I wish I was joking, but I am being 100% at the moment.

The good news is I doubt they would actually report for it. Even the most delusional of survivor mains wouldn't think to report you, thankfully. But if they did and sent the video, you would likely get suspended. Lol.

Uhh.... defending generators is not reportable. I would very much like a citation that shows that a killer defending a 3 gen is reportable, because I am really quite certain it is not. It is not holding the game hostage to patrol gens.

  • @sizzlingmario4 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2895914#Comment_2895914

Tbf, banning DS and BT would be a terrible idea because there would be no deterrence preventing killers from immediately tunneling off hook. But I see your point.

I am not questioning their validity. I'm just pointing out that Killers are far less attached to their perks like a baby blankie than Survivors are. That completely alters how meta works. The OP is correct, to change Survivor meta you need to either make something so good it SOMEHOW outclasses a perk like Dead Hard, or you have to smash the existing perks with a hammer.

  • @Dionysus42 said:

There are basically none. Most people who play this game play both sides.

Stop crying about 'echo chambers'. There are none: if you actually are a survivor main you will think there are more killer threads than there really are, and vice versa. It's basic cognitive bias. Actually count the threads, it is and has always been pretty much balanced bitching from 'both sides'.

Stop crying over how other people play, and make a critical analysis of how the game itself encourages people to play - and you will find that running the strongest things every game is not a moral failing, but a function of how the game is designed, and the same for camping and tunneling.

Most of the forum is pointless bitching. Such as the PTB forums with a dozen threads where people preface themselves with 'Unlike you snowflake Killer mains I'm not so sensitive' and then proceed to throw a tantrum over crouch animations.

And me? I'm waiting for singleplayer bot games so I can start playing again.

I'm sorry, but this statement is false.

There are lots and lots and lots of people that only play one side. You only have to look at the threads that pop up screaming about Daily Rituals to see that.

That is a list of things BHVR is cool with. They are not reportable, bannable, and are not against the rules in any way.

You say BHVR doesn't condone camping. It's right there.

  • @ThatOneDemoPlayer said:

I've seen a lot of recent complaints about Survivors not getting any new meta Perks, which is 100% understandable, Killers have been getting more and more good Perks, and a lot of Survivor Perks just aren't good and aren't getting buffed either.

What my issue with these complaints is, is that there CAN'T be any new meta Perks added.

    Why?

Because for there to be new meta Perks, they'd need to be better than the current meta Perks, which means they'd be straight up broken and overpowered, or easily abuseable. It happened with Boil Over and it happened with Circle Of Healing.

If Survivors wanted new meta Perks, they'd have to accept that most of their meta would need to be nerfed slightly to be on the level of most Perks, along with buffing some of the weaker Perks to find a middle ground

    This guy gets it.

Survivor Mains act like Killers get AMAZING new perks every patch. Listen, just because Killers use new perks does not meant they are meta. It means they are not chained to the same six perks. You could ban TWENTY perks that I could not use as a Killer, and I'd still put together a fun build.

Ban just five perks for Survivors - Dead Hard, Borrowed Time, Iron Will, Decisive Strike, and Unbreakable - and watch the entire Survivor Main community have an absolutely freaking meltdown.

This guy is great at Making Friends and Influencing People.

You better not complain about ANYTHING in the game ever at all, because the developers can do no wrong. And I'm not convinced the developers have condoned face-camping specifically. "Camping" can be a wide net of a term for some people.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2895416#Comment_2895416

    1. Coordinated hook rescue in Survivor solo queue is not something I would expect until you have a lot of time in the game.
    2. Again, you don't know to stay on gens until you know you're dealing with a face camper, but that information is extremely rare to come by until it's too late. The reason Survivors focusing on a gen is okay is because that does not prevent the Killer from playing the game. Sitting on a hook is effectively timeout.
    3. Specific perks? I only have default Survivors and hardly any teachables. You might forget how much time it takes to grind through an entire bloodweb, but I play the game often and put a decent amount of points in and I'm still where I am after over 150 hours. It is simply unreasonable to expect someone to grind that much just to deal with a cheap strat which doesn't require nearly as much effort.

Just because the last attempt at something vaguely similar had a supposedly bad outcome doesn't mean you should stop trying to invent. And, I'll say this once again: I'm a Killer main. In my games, I specifically go out of my way to avoid camping and tunneling, and I still get 4Ks and high BP matches like the rest of them. If you face camp and tunnel, it's more likely that YOU need to shape up, rather than the other way around.

    ORLY?

So I'm really having a hard time going against the Onryo. Like I don't think she's OP, but I still greatly struggle to deal with her because of her surprise attack and overall map pressure.

I've gone against her back to back games tonight and its always with a BBQ and Chili, Lethal Pursuer, Ruin, and some other aura perks usually. My first game she found me IMMEDIATELY, because LP, and I was able to get away thanks to Lithe, lucky a window was nearby, but I barely had any warning with that cloak thing she has.

But for the rest of both games she just STOMPED us into the ground. We couldn't even get 2 gens done! I was able to loop her for a while, but she'd eventually give up, and if any gen progress WAS done, it went away due to Ruin. Her constant map pressure of just teleporting anywhere she wants every single minute is a LOT, especially when she's got BBQ. I'll be across the entire map and unfortunately I'm near a TV, and BOOM--she's there, instantly. Even without BBQ she has like a free aura-perk because her passive fear thing will jump up if a survivor is near a TV when she appears--so even if we manage to hide, she knows we're nearby and can find us.

I heard her teleport thing has like a 60s cooldown? Which seems fair enough, I guess, since she's only rated as like a B-tier killer, but man does it make the entire map just a danger zone, especially if she has BBQ.

I already struggle quite a bit with stealth killers, like Wraith and Pig, but on top of that she's got wicked map presence. Plus i heard she gets a speed boost or something coming out of the TV? like how wraith does coming out of cloak? Idk, I don't have her, and basically none of this info is on google--I've legit been trying to hunt this info down for a hot minute.

Side note, 60 seems insanely short for someone who can teleport ACROS THE ENTIRE MAP. Plus she gets a speed boost coming out of the TV? As a baby legion this just seems so unfair xD because even if I hit EVERY survivor time JUST perfectly, there's STILL no way I'd be able to cross these ENTIRE maps in a single feral frenzy--and thats even if I can manage to FIND all 4 survivors, AND hit them. Even then the base frenzy only lasts 10s((which i had to play a game to find out, because NONE OF THIS IS ON GOOGLE)) and the base recharge takes 34s, including the 4s STUN Legion gets.

Just don't know what to do. I've seen ranks of all survivors just crumble to this killer, and IDK how she 's just "B tier" because I've yet to win a game against her unless they were just COMPLETE noob who didn't teleport.

Okay, I need to clarify something.

She does NOT have a teleport cooldown.

    At all.

    Zero.

However EACH TELEVISION has an independent cooldown. The duration of that cooldown depends on whether the TV turned off from her teleporting to it, or if a Survivor turned it off.

A Sadako can absolutely teleport, get a down quickly, hook you, and then teleport away immediately to a new TV.

  • @Vampwire said:

I would advocate this if it weren't for the fact that some killers put you in lose/lose scenarios without DH. I think if DH were to get nerfed that would need to be addressed as well. I'm by no means saying that it's balanced or healthy. But many of the good survivors run it expecting these sorts of situations. i.e a ranged killer is going to barely clip you after turning a corner, zoned out by an ability, trying to not get hit through a window 1 second after vaulting. Some may say that these are deserved, but I disagree. The killer will eventually gain enough distance on you that those abilities are unavoidable. And it doesn't take as long as you would think. And zoning is not a playstyle that should be promoted. It eventually becomes less of a skillful play and more "no you can't do x because I can do y". Equally comparable to DH, maybe even stronger as it doesn't require a perk slot.

Balancing every single killer power to account for this would be very hard and would probably take a long time. But if we truly want a "balanced" dbd, or as close as we can get to one, then we need to account for both parties.

So first Killers were not allowed to tunnel.

Then they were not allowed to camp.

Then they were not allowed to slug.

Now Killers should not be able to zone, either?

Coming in 2023: removing M1 attacks from killers, as it was causing Survivors to get put into the Dying State, and that isn't fair.

The threads about killer being unfun and weak is getting old. Killers are not leaving either. Right now survivors are much faster to get in matches than killers during the peak of the day.

There has been 6 years of constant and unrelenting survivor nerfs to the extent that experienced killers practically never lose now because the game is so broken in favor of killer.

If you are not winning, all that can really be said is to git gud. Stop crying to BHVR to make the game easy for you. Survivors are practically spawning in the dying state as we speak.

And lastly, if you think killer is hard, please play solo matches. You will experience the hardest, most unfair, and most impossible thing in any video game. Survivors are extremely disadvantaged and this is why the game is losing its momentum. It is definitely not because "killers are weak".

I'll run perks to counter valid strategies, like how when I play Killer I will run Lightborn to counter beamers or my pallet perks to counter pallet drops. The responsibility for dealing with face camping should not be on the players because it's not the intended way of play, anyway.

So. Let's hear your other suggestions. Got 'em?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2894572#Comment_2894572

It is clear from this post that you did indeed read it and so that makes your comments that much the sweeter. Two claps for you.

But yes, I agree and I give my personal seal of approval for this to be canonical supplementary text to the original post above. Anyone who may have trouble stomaching the length of that tapeworm can come to Annso's post for some cool chilling refreshments a-la 1000 characters or less (I didn't actually count it; don't @ me).

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2894392#Comment_2894392

The "catch" mechanic is a poor state. I can't tell you how many times the catch animation will start and then fail suddenly, or I will get points for a catch without getting one at all. So, whether it's the game ######### up or Survivors cheesing their interaction to prevent the catch, it's entirely unreliable. I don't really think Survivors being caught on the hook is the problem here; in my games, it doesn't happen even when it should.

You are correct when you say that face-campers will evolve their strategy, but I still think it is necessary, because you go from virtually no chance of a rescue to having the (pretty good) chance to dodge the axe or the shot. It might not solve all problems, like Insidious or Ghost Face, but with previous changes in place, now we can focus on those specifics. Survivors are pretty crafty. They really just need a tiny bit of breathing room and they'll make the plays happen.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2894367#Comment_2894367

The main issue is getting the Killer's physical body to get away from the hook to give more of a chance for an unhook. With Nurse and those other mobility Killers, closing that distance and getting the grab requires some amount of skill, and there's a chance to outsmart or outpace the Killer. It takes no skill to stand next to a hook and body block it.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2894342#Comment_2894342

If I just came in here with my first post looking like a Tweet asking for a modified Kindred to be added to basekit, that'd gone over worse. My hope is that I understand the issue and I show that in my explanation. My second hope is that with that context it becomes clear why my proposal would be effective. My third hope is that by putting in that work the developers see that effort and return it with an honest, thorough evaluation, which, because I'm a raging narcissist, I think will obviously lead them to my same conclusion. Fourth, quite a lot of the post is fluff to appeal to humor, in a hope I won't appear as "taking myself too seriously" which always attracts people who want to tear YOU down instead of your ideas. That, and to make it easier to stomach the read. If I thought I'd get the same outcome with a shorter post, I probably would have. It took way too long to write.

I'm a Killer main, so I feel like I can talk about this stuff pretty confidently. I agree on some maps in particular pallets are awful. Survivors also have a lot of perks that give them second chances. Big HOWEVER. Those are two separate problems. If me, a Plain Jane Killer Kid, still averages 3Ks on games that I explicitly go out of my way to not tunnel and camp, well, then....

So, yeah, I agree map design is a big issue. Personally, I would not give a hoot about a map dense with safe pallets if I had the heads up to run an anti-pallet build on it. The dynamic where no one knows each others perks until it's too late to change them is, to me, not just a head-scratcher, but a head gouger. But these are different things, and even if the game were "fixed" in those regards, face-camping would still be as effective and as possible as it was before.

Oh. I know who hurt you. :(

But in all seriousness, it's probably because there are "anti-camping" and "anti-tunneling" perks built into the game? And you know, since they had to walk to school five miles uphill both ways in the snow while being chased by the neighbors dogs, everyone else just needs to get gud and develop an immuno-response to the toxicity. It's only natural.

Although, I will say that people have different definitions of camping and tunneling. My definitions are pretty strict.

    The behavior must be intentional.

The behavior must be unmotivated by events in the game.

So this means a camper sits on hook at 3 gens the same way they sit on hook at 5 gens. Killer stays at hook during exit gates? That's motivated by events in the game and is (more) understandable.

It also means a tunneler purposefully tracks the same Survivor to hook them out of the game, even if other Survivors are around or easier targets. Coincidentally finding your last hook victim self-healing in a corner? Well it's not ideal to down and hook them, but it's far from egregious.

Even the Illustrious @Warphead who replied first to this thread in disagreement does not fit those definitions of behavior. What Warphead says Warphead does is absolutely fine for Warphead to do. It's not worthwhile to call someone's behavior camping or tunneling unless it is disruptive to normal gameplay, which, again, the style of behavior from people like Warphead is not.

    Warphead.

Wait, is it Warp Head or War Phead? What would a war phead be?

It IS a valid strategy. Source: the developers. You know, the people that made the game.

  • No, because if you get instadowned, hooked, and unhooked.... you now have an active Dead Hard.

If you get instadowned, hooked, and unbooked.... you now have a worthless Overcome.

The earliest it will probably come out is either at the end of 2022 or some time in 2023, probably around the Anniversary

My guess would be the Midchapter for the chapter after the anniversary. Whatever that maths out to be.

Weren't the Twins next on the chopping block?

Correct. Confirmed in the Q&A stream.

However, Patrick stressed it would not be anytime soon.

  • All you did was type a lot of words asking for Kindred base kit.

    Guess what?

The devs have flat out said no to that idea. Directly. NO. A solid, flat NO.

If you don't like it, run Kindred.

Yes, you need to run perks to counter strategies. You not liking it does not make it true. Don't like getting tunnelled off the hook? Decisive Strike. Don't like stealth killers? Spine Chill. And so on.

Just saying "I shouldn't have to run a perk!" is not an argument. You get FOUR. You will manage.

  • For me it is not the Killer daily so much as what Killer.

My dailies have this one simple question:

"Can I do this in one game?"

If I can, I do it. If not, I swipe it. Like tier up 4 times as Myers? Sold. Land four hatchets as Anna? Done. You want me to Escape as Jane? Nah, screw that.

  • You give too much credit to Fake Freddy.

    Robert deserved better.

Why do you think you can decide what DH is supposed to be used for?

The Distance and the i-Frames are both part of the effect. Both are the supposed effect of DH. And if you want to make one the "main" effect, I would say it is the distance, considering it is mentioned first.

But overall, both are the "supposed" effect. You stating that it is supposed to dodge a Hit is just your interpretation.

And well, they are just saying they are looking into it. Not that they are looking into changing it, this is a difference. However, if they remove the distance, the Perk will be one of the worst Exhaustion-Perks.

    GOOD.
