I don't enjoy playing like a sweaty ######### in this game, but for the majority of my games lately that's what I've felt like I had to do. Anytime I try to run a fun or interesting build, I get stomped. Doesn't matter how well I do in chase, the gens fly too fast to do anything. That's not to ######### on survivors, that's literally their only necessary objective, but that just isn't fun gameplay.

I mean..you can derank yourself and face off against greens and yellows if you don't want a challenge. You can run your 'fun' builds there and likely still do good. Or you can focus on gen pressure instead of chases and give yourself a better chance at red ranks. Different strokes for different folks.

  • I just find the idea of teaming up with 3 strangers and escaping with them, challenging and satisfying. Solo que at high rank can be very frustrating but the games where everyone seems to coordinate with each other and knows what to do, doesn't go down immediately in chases, etc...those are awesome.

  • Thats the price you pay for d/cing.

I've found that even with 1-2 d/c's, you can still do enough to get a black pip usually. Now if you don't care about depips and ranks, then you're probably going to d/c a lot.

I've been playing DbD for a couple months now, and genuinely I consider it one of my favorite games. Playing killer helps me get my stress out after hard days at work, even if I get a bit tilted at times. I'm not that good, never have been past yellow rank, but I love playing the game!

Except for survivor... Survivor at low ranks is utterly miserable. Every other game I get involves face camping or proxy camping. If I run a killer even somewhat decently or stay evasive because I'm doing gens and unhooking when he's gone for Deliverance/We'll Make It value i get slapped on the hook. I do three gens in a game and save and I die. Slugging constantly. Long ass queue times. Unhelpful team mates.

I want to enjoy survivor, I truly do, but the experience is so irritating I can barely stand playing two games in a night. I don't consider myself a great killer but at least that's fun and almost entirely in my control. Survivor at baby ranks feels like me praying for a good team/respectable killer.

I can't tell if I'm being whiny or if other new players feel the same way.

You answered your own question. Get to high ranks. If you're not interested in that, then find some friends and let loose with them. I personally love the challenge of solo que, it will frustrate you a lot (even at red ranks) but it is 200% more satisfying winning with 3 strangers who all coordinate together w/o comms.

So in short, its up to you. Practice a lot and get out of low ranks. Focus on being a great teammate and doing a little bit of everything.

  • Nothing will save a bad looper. Practice and learn the tiles. Perks mean very little if you cant maximize their potential. DH will only get you so far (and you will still go down in the end). Most people don't use it well or its VERY predictable when they will use it so its easy to bait out.

I recommend bringing a Med Kit with Syringe though. Can fix a mistake pretty quickly and it will only prolong the chase to the point a good killer will likely let you go to focus on more gen pressure.

Sprint Burst is the only perk I can recommend because it lets you sit on gens longer and not worry as much and you get a nice little head start on the killer.

  • I hate Farm with a passion. Looking for hexes in the corn fields is just aggravating since everything just blends in and has similar shades.

Also I can't remember the last time I got Thompson's House.

  • I don't usually snack when gaming, if I'm hungry I'll just go make myself a meal and take a lil break before getting back to DbD/games.

  • I love the replies and seeing what people consider 'respect'.

Why does giving up your item = 'respect' though?

I'm sorry but I'll take my hook like a man. I aint going to beg someone for mercy. If you got me, congrats on the win. I'm not a teabagger, I just don't like to leave it up to the killer. So if I make it to the end and am likely 99% to escape, then so be it. Same goes for my death. If I'm the only one left and killer closes hatch and forces me to hit EGs, I mean who can you blame really? Thats how the game goes.

I don't know, I guess I'm a lil different to the replies in here, lol.

The game is really simple and kind of lacks depth. It doesn't surprise me too much that people would equate that to being easy. Especially if you already grinded one side out. That being said, I still vaguely have the "so what, exactly" question. Like... If that is a problem to the OP, he doesn't need to play Killer. Or DBD. I do not really see the point.

This forum is killer sided. IDK if you've noticed but they mostly **** on survivors and excuse their own role because that is what they play.

Multiple streamers have pointed this out, forum users have pointed this out, regular every day players have pointed this out, new users have pointed this out.

There's more survivor players in-game but as far as this forum goes, the criticism/bias only goes so far.

As for your question, I can somewhat agree. But saying 1 side is easy (which it is, both sides are), shouldn't be immediate grounds for 'stop playing then'. All these killer mains acting like their job is so hard, takes skill, etc. Sure it takes some knowledge and playing around a team's play style is different from match to match, but so is a survivor's. Just tired of hearing all these killer mains condescend and talk s* cause they think they have the hardest role in the game.

  • Ignore all the red rank killer mains who got butthurt about your post/thread and tried to condescend on to you.

'Talk when you're in red ranks kid'

    OR, MAYBE

    Its just easy.

  • Because a lot of people find it 'cheap' (usually the same ones who don't do totems and then complain).

Good survivors will cleanse totems. Hell, a lot of good players can recognize the perks a killer brings & count them. There are a lot of signs a killer has NOED for end game. Some really good teammates will even go back into the match and go looking for the NOED after its activated, instead of just getting out safely. They'll take the risk and try to help the teammate on hook.

Bad survivors will cry about how they deserved to get out but instead die because of 1 end-game perk that they could have eliminated during the entire match.

I wouldn't worry though, those 'bad' survivors will stay bad/likely not learn anything. Because of entitlement. And as for the good ones, they won't complain even if they do die to it because they understand its their job to get rid of it and didn't/couldn't.

The whole "people use stretched res cause it's not optimized to run at 1080p" argument is nonsense. They use it for an advantage.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2378451#Comment_2378451

No it shouldn't. FOV should be locked per aspect ratio.

This. I will never believe someone is using stretched res b/c they can't run the game otherwise. Its purely to have an advantage. You can have a GTX900 series or even worse, and still run this game on all low settings. People shouldn't lie about why they use stretched res either, its pathetic. We all know you use it because you know it brings advantages and you 'want' those advantages, its not a necessity. Don't spin it that way.

  • DbD's report system is awful, its like they expect players to regularly record their matches for the rare chance of coming across a hacker/cheater. The average player does not record gameplay for the rare chance of catching cheaters.

Most games don't do this, you report the person and the match you've reported them for is reviewed.

  • Mostly just stocked up on my main survivor/favorite killer.

Didn't really spread points around too much.

  • I don't know man, I think she looks good. I actually love her skin a lot. But I'm not throwing 1500 cells at it.

As for Jonathan Byers..now that is insulting.

  • It makes you feel a little bit better. Thats about it.

  • Sorry bro, I'm busy watching youtube videos and haven't alt tabbed back in!

  • I'm not defending D/cing but let me put it in another way:

Killer mains (especially red rank killers) hold the mentality that they can tunnel, camp, slug and just pull every scummy move to win the match, because they do not care about the survivor's fun. They want to win. And they'll do whatever it takes to ensure the win.

Survivor mains in red ranks, at least the tryhards, will gen rush and hold the mentality that if a killer can't spread pressure around the map, its their fault and they deserve to lose. These survivors want to get out/win. They don't care about your fun just like a tryhard killer doesn't care about a survivor's.

Now apply that mentality to D/cing and it makes a lot of sense why people do it.

Yes it sucks, but its going to keep happening. And truthfully, a grand majority DO NOT CARE about the other team's enjoyment. This is a PvP multiplayer game. You can't expect people to stick around when THEY are not having fun, but for some reason there's this mentality that even if you're having the worst time in your match, you're somehow obligated to stick it out for your team/the match's health.

Its so backwards. You can't have it both ways.

  • Understand that everyone enjoys a game differently. What you consider fun, isn't fun to someone else. And saying 'if your definition of fun is winning and bringing meta builds, this game isn't for you' is your opinion. But you don't get to tell people how to enjoy the game. Grats, you realized you don't like tryharding. Others do. Subjective.

  • When you're the one on your team who does 2-3 gens (god help me, there's 3 other survivors), it tends to not be favored as much as other perks. I'll let the attention seeking/super altruistic people go for it if they want. I mean, they got the time right? Since they're not doing gens? I don't think its underpowered, I just think there's other perks that help your team a lot more overall.

I can see it being incredibly strong on a well coordinated SWF, but since I play solo survivor, I value gen progression and saving teammates a lot more. Most teammates I'm with are not good in chases, they go down in seconds. The only way I'll go looking for hexes or even run Counterforce is if I know my team is decent and can buy me time. Which is most of the time, not the case.

  • How are people messaging you on discord from in-game matches? Are you guys on a certain server together, coincidentally? I stay out of DBD servers mainly cause of toxic people like that. And yes, that's def reportable.

  • To all survivors who somehow get to red ranks but don't know how to play against Plague: STOP HEALING FROM THE FOUNTAINS. You are dooming your team and powering her up. Learn to play injured and not rely on 2 hits but strong chases.

    Ty.

And yes, you're not the only one havin a rough night lol.

  • I had something similar happen but it was towards end-game. I did 3 gens for my team (the only ones done) on Glenvale and also 2 unhooks. Everyone died but 1 person and because I knew he was not doing gens, I decided to just try my best for hatch. Teammate realizes I'm hiding in locker and brings the Demo to me so I proceed to run him, lose him in a chase, and then again my teammate brings him over and points at my location. Demo gets ran a bit more and then downs and kills me. Proceeds to kill the other teammate as well.

Complains about holding up the game when it was very clear from my score versus the others, I was the one doing majority of the work lol. I reported him and the teammate, to which he responds 'go to my steam profile and leave a salty comment' and I'm just like ?? Lol. Just left on that note. Some people love playing like that and ruining people's time, its a weird fetish for them. just the way of the game sometimes.

  • ..Nurse. I'm not awful with her but I'm by no means anywhere close to a god tier Nurse player/main who can measure distance really well and not miss ever with blinks.

  • I mix different builds up but priority is always to win. Not to say that playing to win isn't fun, because it is. But that's also why I don't run SWF because solo is a lot more satisfying to win in, versus having comms and relaying info to teammates.

  • Bad mentality man. Yes she's very good and yes a god nurse is going to likely kill everyone or most. But that doesn't mean you can't counter her or make it difficult. Its sort of like playing against Spirit. A LOT of survivors play the same way against her as they do against other heroes and the trick is to have a more stealthy approach and keep her guessing, predrop pallets, if she tries to mindgame you, run or walk away depending on how fast the phasing is, etc.

  • Was never scary. Honestly the only people who thought it was a true HORROR game were the people at low ranks starting out in the game.

Its not like Outlast or Visage, etc. Its a multiplayer game and although you can be caught off guard (like a Myers seeing you through walls and surprising you), its not the same.

It fits the genre of horror in a way, but it is not a truly scary game like others. But I don't expect that from multiplayer games either. The 'scare' factor goes down big time in them. To be honest, I got more of those vibes playing Friday the 13th than I do Dbd. Everyone's different but yea, this game is ...just not scary.

  • Because $$$. People will buy killers/survivors for the perks alone. If they rotate the shrine every 24h, a lot of people will have no reason to spend real money on the killers because the perk they want will show up sooner rather than later.

They're greedy, its the reason why they focus so much on cosmetics and less on gameplay/health of the game.

I do agree with you, 7 days is incredibly too long. But doubt it'll change.

  • At red ranks, there are a lot of boosted players. Don't get me wrong, there can be some satisfying matches (like I just had a teammate bring cake, d/c immediately on Lery's Institute versus Demo - the 3 of us got the gens done and got out) however most are very frustrating. You have people running the killer around the gen being worked on, or around the hooked survivor, people not doing gens, etc.

I'm glad you're having fun with it though. Its definitely the more challenging way to play and overall more interesting. You also learn a lot faster in solo que because mistakes are a lot less forgiving with 3 strangers as teammates.

  • Minimum 3k for a win.

  • Shouldn't feel bad. If 4 survivors can't do even 1 gen, they all deserve to lose.

  • Visually, its beautiful. In terms of gameplay and overall health of the game, its the worst map created thus far.

  • It depends on the time of day.

If I'm on during the day, I'd say 2-4 hours. At night, sometimes 30m-1hr. Reason is because the quality of players drops drastically off drastically at night, matchmaking opens up more yellow/green ranks, etc.

  • You've got a weird definition of toxic.

Stop taking every little thing a survivor does as an insult/negative.

  • I don't think Meg is the most hated, man. Claudette and Steve survivors are worse.

  • Baseline kindred for all solo survivors. That alone will go a long way.

  • I use them here and there, probably like 1-2 every 6-10 games. But yes I am hoarding them on my main survivor for the most part.

Also have used cake where it ended up being wasted (either teammates died early/threw) or I'd get tunneled/camped to 2nd hook.

  • Gotta be Freddy considering he has 0. Another close second would be a tie between Myers and Bubba.

    For survivors, Bill.

  • 'stop being so god damn altruistic to the point of killing your team and do the ******* gens'

  • Yea something is up, been waiting 10m in que as survivor. This is during the time everyone is getting off work/getting home. Normally never a problem.

  • I tend to agree its pretty unfair, but I also gotta say..getting out with crown when you did a TON of work for your team, is so satisfying.

I got out as Meg but it was really thanks to the killer (huntress closed Hatch and I got the gate to 90% when they showed up, proceeded to try to bait the hit, opened the gate but they got me almost immediately). Saw them standing still deciding what to do with me (I was hoping they'd be kind) and they thankfully let me go. This was after doing 3 in a half gens, saving 3 people, doing 2 totems.

Was really nice of them! (Kudos to you Huntress if you ever read this).

  • @ShinobuSK said:

You just get that crown as cosmetics on Meg now. Nothing else

Oh alright, it just showed up now AFTER I made this thread. Zzzz.

Thanks for the quick answer (both of you). o7

  • Nah, plenty of killers aren't fun to play against.

You don't get to tell me what is fun to play against and what isn't, period. Cheers bud.

  • To put it bluntly, they realize you aren't good and take advantage of it.

But they also don't know your rank prior to the end-game lobby. They may have had an idea you were low rank, but they had no way to confirm till AFTER the game concludes. A lot of times, they regret their actions at that point. Some also just don't care what rank you are, they just like being frustrating for the killer.

in Just why Comment by Volcz
  • Alright so there's a number of reasons (for me) -

    1. Not enough survivors do gens, too many want to get into chases when they're awful runners (just had a game where I had to do 4 of the 5 myself).
    2. I noticed the killer is catching my teammates and putting on pressure too fast so I have to focus gens, especially if my teammates aren't.
    3. If the killer is just there to 'farm', I don't find that fun and I just want to get out and into my next match asap.
    4. Its also a way to punish the killer if he is tunneling or camping someone. Lots of killer mains forget about Kindred and that ya know, we can see you camping/proxying.
    5. Its our objective to get out, its your objective to stop us from doing gens and kill us. If you're not putting out good map/gen pressure, what do you want us to do about it?
    6. Not healing and getting on a gen is a huge risk, it either pays off or you regret not taking the time to. Actually good killer mains at red ranks (not all of them are good) will make you pay for not healing most of the time. If you notice its a good player, take the time to heal especially.
    7. I recognize a strong loop/area where I am relatively safe while doing the gen, knowing even if the killer shows up I have a chance to get away with a pallet/window or even Fixated.

dude. it actually is a kill simulator for the killer. what do you expect? He's not supposed to feed you cotton candy and play fetch with you. He's supposed to murder you. What game are you playing?

Lmao the same people like you who say this complain about gen-rushing.

If you don't care about the other team's enjoyment, then thats ok. But you don't get to be entitled and expect people to stick around in your matches. Can't have it both ways. :)

  • The irony is that there are more console players than PC players now. But y'all still have garbage optimization/performance focus on your platform. BHVR gotta focus on the cosmetics, sorry man.
