far from my only unpopular opinion, but one thats on my mind rn since its PTB season.
the PTB isnt unreliable solely cause console players dont have access, the PTB is unreliable because a large majority of survivors who play on it see it as a fun special event where they get to mindlessly play against the new killer/new perks, and they DC if anything that is not that happens because they "want to have fun playing against the new killer." in this PTB i can somewhat understand it, as there is very little added on the killer side besides jason, but there have been past ptbs ive seen where survivors opt out on matches because someones testing something niche but still updated because "its not the new killer".
it shows the mindsets of these players: they dont go looking for actual issues or bugs in the PTB, they treat it like a VIP access first romp of a killer, add nothing to the conversation and never challenge themselves during the PTB, and then get mad when the killer comes to live and people learn how to play it. me and my duo typically spend at least a hour in a custom game testing niche stuff, then we play live matches and note things to post on the forums for feedback/major bugs that should be reported. the Public Test Build is for Testing, more people should try to do that for the sake of the game instead of treating it like the Steam Survivor Special Queue
-
for every killer who makes a suggestion theres 6 survivors to down vote them. for every survivor who makes a suggestion theres 6 killers to down vote them as well. were a happy dysfunctional family during ptb time
-
the modern day small pp build is probably hyperfocus + stake out + no chase perks. player who gen jockeys, hides, dies in chase in 10 seconds, and then gets mad. real small pp energy
i honestly feel like it takes more balls of steel to get off DS without making your entire survivor team hate you
-
killer depends, usually ends up at at least one because i play lower tier killers and it feels like an uphill battle if i dont bring some sort of regression or slowdown condition. even with me feeling like they are somewhat essential on low mobility/high effort killers to do work, i will say i at least can still sometimes make that 1 perk something a bit more niche like call of brine or thanato instead of… pain res surge turn back the clock pop…. pain res surge turn back the clock ruin? pain res pop turn back the clock ruin… ah…

There are no plans to have live design changes during new content release - history has shown us that this is more problematic in getting feedback on new content as well as the changes.
yeah but like
the non new content releases are scarcely timed out between new content chapters, and these balance changes are so direly wanted because there was not enough changes in the last not new content release. there surely has to be a way to address balance concerns that we as a community were told were going to be looked at without having to wait two ptb cycles in their entirity….
if this is about the krasues ptb and how she released very strong because players were concerned with the other content in the PTB; the lack of feedback for krasue was not solely because there were balance changes at all, its that there were so many game altering balance changes at once that if the PTB went live without critique, many (genuinely not great!) changes would get through in some form. the krasue was an extremely complex killer to fully break down at the time, and concerns were elsewhere. it should not be an excuse to just…. ignore perks hurt by diminishing returns on a PTB that is entirely bugfixes, 1 killer, and survivor perks that are not coming to live next release.
also this said i actually do somewhat like having a smaller chapters perks tested a bit before their full release like this. i hope the feedback from them can be taken, applied to the next ptb, and we can test again.
-
team mates on the 4 person team side in the team game when one skill is changed to no longer revolve around avoiding the other side and letting people on soloq either carry chase for you or die on their behalf (they have to actually put on an exhaustion perk and run for 20 seconds instead of play generator simulator):
if you genuinely love deleting progress off gens so much, switch to an unhooking build and use it. your teammate may actually appreciate you using we'll make it to heal them instead of sitting in a locker grinding stake out tokens or looting a chest for specialist stacks
-
my only 2v8 feedback is i would like to play legion again in this mode instead of being told "survivors do not like the killer so we are removing them"

I thought so…so can someone explain to me why I just got destroyed by a legion?
can you click the legion and post his build? theyre kinda too old of a character for that to really prove anything but if they have some silly anniversary add on from years ago thats usually a very evident flag of "im a cheater and i want you to know!!!"
either which way better luck next match alas :)
-
anti heal builds are very inconsistent,
this said if you want a kind of cheeky anti heal perk that will at least tell you when survivors are healing each other/may give no quarter more of a use case, make room for the underrated deathbound from pyramid head. survivor tries to heal another survivor? they scream and tell you where they are. survivor tries to heal themselves? no quarter will kick in. obviously if they are consistent enough to hit all the skill checks this will have mixed results, but it does kind of make out healing to be a lose lose situation no matter how its done. its a fun combo i ran during bloodmoon last year when gen perks didnt do much -

Ahh, i didn't know that. I couldn't follow the stream very well because my English isn't very good. Did I understand correctly that the Legion won't be in the 2v8 anymore? They can't be serious.
yes he is being removed, we can ask for him to be added again in a survey that will come with the next 2v8, but they have said they want to add killers based on how much people enjoy them. they are also asking which killers people do not want, and survivors will likely submit legion and kaneki in droves.
feels bad to like them right now :( i came back to the game for bloodmoon and quickly realized i would prefer to play survivor instead of grinding bp as pyramid head, i guess

specifically its not the KI thats the locker bug, there is a FOV bug with legion that when active can allow you to walk up to a locker and clip inside it, effectively seeing a survivor in a locker without opening it.
anyways sad to hear i cant feed frank any blood points… at least ill have fun playing my favorite killer in 2v8-

I guess the cash grab must survive no matter what the playerbase explains. Cannot explain this otherwise. Devs are completely out of touch.
can those who call kaneki a ""cash grab"" then explain why the tokyo ghoul license holders refuse to add any more content of it from the game.
-
ive been doing stake out hyperfocus as my "brain off play game" build on survivor (usually with we'll make it for quick off hook heals and overcome) and i agree this is a rational way to look at it. stake out is a lovely perk that rewards not being a coward with consistency in heals and gen speed, hyperfocus i can see getting a numbers nerf due to the combo with it.
current fast track is an abysmal perk for the game and i have no idea what they were thinking

@Dustin said:
A genuine question but what is the point of showing the killer at all? For stealth killers it can give away the surprise and for every other killer I feel like you're not going to forget who you are playing against halfway through the game. You can only see the killer name and ping and the rest of the info is hidden until post game as usual. It just seems like unnecessary information to even hint towards the survivors. If it's to help new players then it won't do anything because one they see a "You are now facing the KILLER" tooltips at loading screen for the first few times facing someone and the tutorials are still not good.
I have no criticisms for the survivor portion but I feel the killer section shouldn't even really be present - it's not needed outside of possibly showing ping.
i do not know if this is BHVRs answer to this, but if the PTB comes around and this menu allows you to hover over the power icon and get the power description: thats the reason. theyre pinning the addition of this all on helping "new players" (despite it being one of dbds most requested features for years) so they included the killers power icon and a means to hover over it and see how the killer works.
im going to hopefully believe ryan and mandy and hope they delay revealing the icon until like. do a corrupt. a timer of 1 minute or until the first hit (with added considerations for no mither or plot twist)

I understand why sprintburst is used as much as it is. Especially now with the amount of hyper lethal killers that basically only allow shift w.
Against killers like Pig, Ghosty or the like however, it just feels really bad.
What annoys me most in 2v8 is how bad Pyramid head feels. Especially when compared to Nemesis.
His cages do next to nothing and he greatly suffers from sprintburst on command.
i was gonna roll my eyes at this thread but no i agree with this guy. i literally keep forgetting pyramid head is in 2v8 because its so pointless to queue up as him. you dont provide much value to your team mate yourself, you are extremely slow, you dont have perks to work around so prediction shots are blind or done via aura provided by your team mate (can work as a duo but unreliable in solo queue). it generally feels pretty hard to lay down pressure as him, which makes the reward of your quick mori feel so far out of reach.

Meanwhile, Pain Res, DMS, Grim Embrace remains completely unaffected.
what also sucks is hyperfocus stakeout and fast track are not effected. this change to once again "equallize" builds and the meta fails to address what a decent chunk of the player base see as highly efficient builds on their side.
wasnt there word of mouth sometime ago that they wanted to fiddle with a label system for this type of thing? like they wanted to classify each perk and then only allow 1 or 2 of each. this mightve been garbage i read on leaksdbd though. i feel as though if they wanted to force equalization in the sense of "we dont just want swfs running 2 loopers a healer and a gen jockey" i would rather the perks and the mechanics stay as is while were just limited combinations wise.
or just… cap more of this #########. them saying they "tried" capping stats in the past in the livestream made me irate because most the time they basically havent. my main, raging, suggestion during the haste debacle of last year was "if theres a threshold you as a company know you dont want exceeded with haste, why not make that threshold a cap" and instead they scrapped the whole PTB. now, in the end, i agree to that, but you absolutely cannot say they tried. the only cap speed ive ever heard of is with healing, and that cap is so high that you can dedicate a whole build to stacking perks without really worrying about it.
whole things just a mess. its gonna get scrapped like the haste/hindered changes last year due to backlash/people finding means to abuse it/make it suck so bad for one side in the ptb after 10 minutes because they admitted they didnt do a grand sweep of all the perks for readjustments.
im curious how the ptb will go also with the confirmation that killer add ons arent effected by the change. i would probably be excited to queue up as bffs legion and see how haste maxxing feels on him in end game, buuuuuut if i play legion on ptb all the survivors just disconnect before testing anything. honestly, i may never know.

This is personally what I believe as well. Historically, the surveys tend to pose a question based on what's hot in the community and somehow we always end up with the result that's least beneficial to us and most beneficial to BHVR. Not to mention users were reporting how flawed the polling system was and yet there's no attempt to redo it.
"Not to mention users were reporting how flawed the polling system was and yet there's no attempt to redo it."
come on now this is BHVR. theyll consider fixing the voting system in about 6 years and will actually do it in 8.

I main Sable so you can imagine that many of the other communities i was in, were echoing sentiments that i found harmful in relation to this topic, so i decided to leave them. Just remember that there are tons of pockets in the dbd community and they won't all feel bad. I choose not to engage in areas that i don't feel safe.
I find it unfortunate that this discourse is likely going to influence the votes though rather than just being based on people's first instinct though. I chose to vote the older lady, i like the pretty one but i prefer sable. But to be honest i've been tempted to vote the prettier one in protest but i'm not going to.
Take care and be kind and true to yourselfsome of the stuff ive seen about just hating old people that much is insane.. probably coming from people who herald bill as an awesome veteran old dude too if i had to bet. literally saw a comment about her needing adult diapers on reddit, like ######### is wrong with people.
also im well. havent played dbd besides the PTB 2v8 test (which i admittedly had a lot of fun on, lol) in a few months and its both been nice but everytime i think about coming back i look at reddit posts and go Oh Dear God.

They can have actual vote results just to "test the waters" and then set something else at the end, for any reason. For example, the blue-haired girl could be winning, but then they decide that the older character would be more "inclusive" and "politically correct", so they just declare she won. Sounds to me like the most likely case, although not the only one possible.
honestly i do think the grimoire is a real vote and not some 8 month long con by bhvr to put extra investment in an original chapter.
i ALSO think the reason were getting a change your fate on the survivor is likely due to a large divided vote on the survivors that were not the blue haired girl, and this is BHVR giving those divided votes a second chance. like you said, we dont get to see the actual tallied votes, so for all we know BHVR saw more votes overall for those 3 , but maybe blue girl one the popular one. or maybe this didnt happen at all, we have no clue.
if bhvr wanted to release a chapter with another female character who is pretty, they have the wrestler concept and couldve gone with it. i actually kinda think they want to give the other ideas a chance too.
maybe they shouldve done a gender vote before all this haha. but then itd be a bloodbath between the same female character enjoyers and those who sob over not having an original male character since gabriel (valid concern, tbf)
-
I also want to note since Leeched persists on hook, any effects that add ons give it also persist while you are on the hook. Specifically, with the Lorenza's Remains add on someone can be left on the hook with Blindness applied, thus being unable to tell if someone is in a good position to save them unless they are on comms. I do not think this is healthy.

I can see the logic if you consider a survivor getting downed again and again by a killer who decided this is all they'll do.
I don't know if this ever happened… but that is the logic I can see.
Toxic players do do it for memes, but again even in these cases.you can add extra conditions to try and not give players a free "i want out" button. We literally have conspicious actions for this type of thing, cant do one before youre downed again? Something might be wrong or youre actively throwing, abandon would be best here. Getting picked up twice in one match is way too feasible in normal play still

I would also like to note the pyramid screenshot is mine and im the user who was playing as james undertale. Everytime someone suggested killers being able to abandon, it typically gets shot down since they still have a chance to make a comeback. It's not quite that.
It is easy to draw a simple, easy for computer code to determine line where the survivors have virtually no chance of a comeback that simultaneously is not easy for a toxic killer to circumvent.
It is very hard to draw a line where the killer has virtually no chance of a comeback that would not simultaneously be very easy for toxic survivors to circumvent.
But on this issue, yes, I don't know why we're getting it.
typically i only see this brought up when asking for killers to be able to abandon after the gate is opened (which is a very easy to toggle state within the games code) with people going the "you can still win route" because in theory the killer can still secure kills in end game. to be clear i dont side with adding an abandon feature for that, id prefer speeding up endgame timer based on how many survivors are standing in the gates to cuck tbagging weirdos.
this is my same issue with this change. its not being downed multiple times in a few minutes, or before moving a certain distance, or without doing a conspicuous action, this just kicks in if you go down and up twice with no other thought put into it. its literally a "you get to quit because youre not having fun" button like how survivors will dc any ptb match they dont find immediately cozy and funny. its a horrible standard to set and people should play the game they queue up for. if they wanted this to counter killers standing over you and downing you, raise it above 2 or make it only proc if these downs occur twice without any conspicuous actions occuring. the abandon feature is supposed to value players times, forcing the killer to play with bots because of sabo and slug squads is disrespectful of theirs.

i usually like the things you post but this aint it man. youre literally admitting in your own post that the tunneling penalties are too extreme but theyre okay because theyre not happening to you and are happening to a killer solely because they have the POTENTIAL to tunnel. saying the system balances out MMR is also blatantly incorrect due to the mmr system being insanely flawed with its soft caps, thats like saying the go next system actually stops go nexting. while i agree with you solely on the concept that BHVRs mindset to get rid of these malicious behaviors is the correct way to take balancing, saying these changes are good completely negates edge cases and arbritrary decisions being put onto the killers hands on who to kill, or not kill, or slug instead of kill, or ignore because of overtuned penalties aiming to correct a portion of the killer player base. all you have done in this post is call killers innately toxic and "braindead" (ableism in the big 25 bro?) and blame weak killers for having bad kits while giving no in game examples and saying killers essentially just deserve it. this isnt constructive or helpful feedback, its rage bait and your own opinion with no evidence or anything to back it up.
-
this is not a bug, the note on the patch notes states the game only ports over the dlc you have physically bought on steam, but to compensate all perks are readily available. there are some issues with this, such as some people being unable to play cenobite despite owning him since they bought him with shards, but there isnt a bug.

So I might have a small brain or something but I don't know why people are upset about it. The idea is just saying "hey don't be sweaty and try to spread hooks around" I have played both killer and survivor and I will say I have tunneled once or twice when I was having a bad day. But I don't understand why people are upset about it when basically it's just learn your not gonna get a 4k all the time and a 3k is still technically a win 1k or 0 is a lose and 2 is a tie. So I might be missing something in all this but I really don't understand why so many people are upset with it.
im not complaining because i tunnel, im complaining because the circumstances theyve laid out for anti-tunneling are applied to all facets of the game instead of those going solely for this strategy and as a result it makes the game invertedly more complicated on the killer side. hooks are now obscured for over 10 seconds after unhook because killers like blight or nurse can come back to hook from any point on any map and restart a chase, so killers i play who benefit from punishing bold and close unhooks get a kick in the head (oh you want to use phead and get hits under hook? hope you like proxy camping now). there are real, plausible situations where the 6 hook penalty for killing a survivor can be at risk of activating if a survivor does not play well in early game (or any point in game if the killer is having a bad match) that will force killers to still 'tunnel' and face the penalties OR slug the survivor for added pressure (this is something a new player will not know to do innately and with the anti slug changes it risks giving someone free UB if the team focuses gens instead of picking.)
with any changes related to tunneling, and even with the go next changes, ive noticed the recurring problem that lines of code in a game cannot determine the difference between someone playing badly and someone going through an unoptimized and unfair game experience. since the tunneling system is based on when the killer hooks a survivor and who it is, and nothing else, this then defines tunneling in game as any act of hooking the same survivor twice concurrently, where as im sure any regular player who plays both sides will tell you that the same survivor gaining two hook states minutes apart is not someone being tunneled innately (it could be, in some cases, but genuinely sometimes the same person is just found again or returns to a spot they were already at, making them easy to find.) and there are multiple plausible reasons why another hook on the same survivor happened in a row, if were using a system that does not consider time spent in between like this one.
and like i agree, if the killer sucks they should and likely will lose, that is fine. but with a system like thats supposed to encourage more fair gameplay it feels as though it is occasionally too lenient in the tunneling penalties department allowing for too possible of edge cases where someone just playing the game can punish themselves for just trying to play. yes people are posting "malding killers when they cant tunnel at 5 gens" memes but this just isnt it. toxic players will find new things to use to assure wins (or ive seen some claim tunneling is still easy enough on some killers) while as the casual playerbase has to dance around silly rules and make double sided penalizing decisions in matches that are already losing battles lest daddy bhvr says those last two gens are getting done in 70 seconds or less. unlike unhook protection changes which i always saw as a needed fix for a long standing problem (easy hook trades) this stuff feels so restricting even if i dont tunnel. like youre taking away my ability to see unhooks for this? really?

Where afraid because if the Survivors Gen Rush The Gens there's nothing the Killer can do about it because they cant Kill until 6 total hooks stats. And Rushing there Objective is Tunneling
it wont be the end times but i do think the system is too loose and has potential to cause too many edge case matches where a killer playing completely generically can be punished for survivor mistakes/being efficient over "fair"

Gonna be hard to do when the survivor who was last hooked is dancing around my face and body blocking preventing me from going after someone else because they are in a SWF on discord and get 87 perks for free because they have a mic.
sorry havent you heard what the people in this thread said? since these survivors arent dedicating every frame of the match to solely doing generators and since all survivors are a schroedingers cat of being a good player and a noob, you should have an absolutely free frustration and difficulty free win against these players unless you are horrible at killer! thats the conclusion we reached right? jumping through hoops to complete the objective of the game due to an overtuned system is actually our fault and we have to get gud? theres absolutely no reason why someone in a group of four may die earlier and to be concerned about the remaining 3 players being better at the game, surely, every killer that is upset is just bad at video games and should go play civilization. some canadian french guy told me it was good once.

I have a feeling they'll be switchable at the press of a button, and rather instant. Kind of like how Freddy is with Pallets/Snares, or Clown with the Tonic/Antidote.
The issue with Doctor is that it took like two seconds to switch and incurred a movement speed penalty. They've figured out how to have killers with two modes that isn't the clunkiest thing ever.
As for the update, I'm pretty excited to see how it is. I think the complaints about Myers being turned into a "dash" killer are kind of overblown. It's literally "M1 lunge good, M2 lunge bad".
Especially excited to see Tombstone basekit in a balanced way. The ability to just pick up and kill someone on a whim is very Myers.
The only thing I'm less excited to see is a reduction in Stalk range, especially considering he'll have to be 4.2m/s to do it.
i agree that mode switching killers have gotten better mechanically to use, but my main comparison to old doctor here is one mode is your power on mode (actually stalking) while the other is m1 killer with no power and some speed to compensate. i just feel like on myers this isnt going to feel super great in certain departments and will require a lot of stopping pressure to stalk, which is an issue he still already has in some cases.
i think im a hater on this one. the changed not-coup lunge thing feels like itll get outplayable fast. this feels like chucky with extra steps

the lack of an unhook notif is crazy to me. oh, you turned the corner next to main on toba and someone yoinked that ######### off 4 meters away from you? what? its a bad and dangerous play? well dont worry, we wont tell the killer that youre off the hook so its okay, just keep playing on autopilot in your generator completion simulator and never employ critical thinking towards this games mechanics. we'll just now train the killers to look like schizophrenics and look back at the hook constantly. theres also multiple killers who benefit from targetting survivors who unhook over tunneling (being in frenzy as legion near an unhook is 2 free ferals, pheads hit under hook to injure the unhooker and deep wound the unhooked often, also this will shoot make your choice in the back of the head) so it just feels like bhvr going "tunneling is bad dont you see what you killers do! no going back to hook no consecutive hooks and no info on if survivors are prioritizing gens over saving! its your fault!"

so they gave him the worst part of original doctor (clunky modes you have to swap between) and instead of applying global expose (one of the main reasons i wanted myers in 2v8) tier 3 is now just Scamper That Instas And Cant Jump Pallets So Now You Get To Play As Burger King Blight
…are we really gonna ######### act like this is a buff?
