"Consumer pretends that a contract can't be disagreed with, objected to, or protested, while praying to Lord Profit. More details pretty much every second."

I see what you did there. You took what I wrote, then you projected your own feelings and assumptions about my beliefs into it in an attempt to mock me. Wow. Aren't you just creative!

This is capitalism. Just because I'm not getting outraged that a for profit company is screwing over the environment to pad their pockets doesn't mean I agree with them or pray to "Lord Profit" as you oh so brilliantly wrote. Get over yourself.

If people are going to flame BHVR, at least don't be disingenuous while you're doing it. BHVR never lied or misled you. They simply never cared to include your in the process. This is true of most companies. With a lack of information, people formed their own conclusions, and when they proved to be false they got into their feelings and looked for someone or something to blame.

I am all for people protesting this game if you believe the company no longer stands in line with your beliefs. But please stop acting surprised that a for profit company makes decisions with respect to their bottom lines and not their moral compass.

  • "For profit company does (most likely contractually obligated) deal for profit. Consumers outraged. More details at 6."

  • Play as efficiently/selfishly as you like, with the best strategy that you think will allow you to "win". Just be prepared to eventually only be placed with other players who feel the same way. That is how SBMM will "reward" you.

    Good luck.

  • As far as I understand it:

    • 1K is one win and 3 losess.
    • 1K gives you a certain amount of points (lets say 10 for the sake of simple argument)
    • 3 escapes subtracts a certain amount of points (let's say -10 x 3... so -30 points)
    • 10 - 30 = -20

At the end of the match, it's a net loss of 20 points. So your MMR goes down by 20 points.

  • DBD is extremely harsh on newbies. On the Killer side, you'll sometimes get toxic SWFs who as soon as they realize you're new will do their best to humiliate you as often as possible. On the Survivor side, you sometimes get "efficient" Killers who want to "win" and will just tunnel you out of the game immediately - not allowing you any real time to actually learn anything or experience much of the game.

Remember the Devs said everyone starts at 1100 (I think), with 800 being the soft cap on the low end. So it is possible experienced killers who don't necessarily play well could match up with new players. This is no different than in the rank system where people would smurf purposely to accomplish the same goal.

Sorry the game didn't take with your friends OP. At least you tried to bring in and help some new blood.

    • Game Speed (I'm cheating a bit as this is a mix of both map size and gen speed)
    • The unhealthy mentality of a subsection of the playerbase that bleeds into gameplay.

Iron Will currently provides absurd value for zero input and zero opportunity for counterplay. You shouldn't be able to delete a game mechanic entirely by simply equipping a perk.

I don't play with headphones, so I don't have a real dog in this fight - but I just want to point out that Lightborn deletes a game mechanic (killer stuns/blinds) by simply equipping a perk.

Suiciding on the hook is not a reportable offence at all.

I'm on PS4 and I was never aware that was the case. I always clicked on the report screen when people DC'd under "unsportsmanlike - Rage Quitting". Sorry for some of the spam then.

Could we possibly get a message to the Devs asking them to update the in game report screen to prevent some confusion and lessen wasteful report spam?

  • I just played a Huntress game where I was trying to do the Beast of Prey rift challenge. So I chased everyone, and only hit them once BoP proc'd. Didn't throw any hatchets. Didn't tunnel anyone. By the end of the game, I had 2 of them on death hook. Hooked someone at the start of EGC, and I backed off and swung towards the hook and nodded to let one of the survivors know that I wasn't going to tunnel or try to stop the unhook. Give a half hearted chase to the person who did the unooking, and clearly stopped and spun in circles way in front of the gate to let them know I wasn't going in - and STILL a Bill decided to t-bag furiously. I literally laughed out loud.

I share this story to say, some people are just dumb. Try not to let dumb people get to you if you can.

  • I think you answered your own question. Most survivors get upset because it's not fun. The only counter play they have against it is running meta perks and hoping that their teammates are capable enough to help them.

My question to you is: Does it bother you that it upsets them? If so, why?

You are aware how hard it is to make an asymm game and compete in the genre, right?

Why do you think people really want to see VHS succeed?

It's easy to just say "If you don't like it, leave." No, if there is a problem in this game, then it should ABSOLUTELY be ######### fixed.

DBD has an absolute hold on the genre because of the amount of licenses it has. The vast vast majority of players, myself included, pllays this game casually and for fun.

But this system is not fun, and I personally am not sold on other asymm games in the market right now that gives me what DBD has given me. So I could either just not play the game and abandon it entirely, or I could help pressure the devs to fix this #########.

While I'm not aware of how difficult it is to compete in this genre, I am aware of how difficult game development is in general.

I think you misunderstand me. I'm not telling people "love it or leave it". I'm saying that comments like "My cat could have come up with a better system", "This is the best they could come up with after 2 years", and "The Devs are so incompetent" does nothing to further anyone's cause. You're not going to get people to listen to you while you're shitting on them. If people actually want the Devs to listen, then they should present their constructive criticism and not just spew vitriol all over the place.

    Don't kid yourself.

A lot of people make hyperbolic statements about how their pets could have done a better job, and how long everything took. I say this with all due respect - if you are certain you could do a better job, please do so. I would genuinely love to give you my hard earned money to play a better product.

You need to stop treating MMR as a rank or bragging rights. Losing MMR isn't "being penalised", it's literally just a way to match you with other players.

If you're doing something that is consistently getting you escapes, then you're doing something your opponents can't compete with. Therefore you should be matched with opponents who can.

"I think a lot of people are looking at mmr wrong.

It isn't a case of your mmr is higher so you are a better player. It isn't meant to be compared.

If a person can hide in a corner and still get out of the exit gate then shouldn't they start facing stronger killers who don't lose what bassically is a 3v1?"

"The original system that they say failed only took into account kills and escapes. This new system revolves around kills and escapes, but the amount at which your MMR increases/decreases is more complicated and based on things like how long it takes to die/escape/kill, and in what order.

It IS more complicated and nuanced than just dying or escaping, and that fine tuning is likely what makes this system work while the first one failed."

    Untitled Image

    Thank you Seraphor.

The one thing I agree with people who don't like SBMM is that it should have been called something else. Nothing makes a gamer's hackles rise faster than questioning their "Skill". Maybe "Results Based Match Making".

Messing around since i have done so much in the game to 100% completion that Bloodpoints are a small necessity to me at this point

I feel you. I am working towards getting that completion. The only thing that gets me to sweat is trying to do some rift challenge. Otherwise, I'm just running around chasing people and trying to get better at understanding how to use whatever killer I have a daily with. 😀

I'd like to agree as I'm open to other opinions (hence the poll I made) but you're coming from a place where you're putting the importance on 4Ks. I'm coming from a place where every match is sweaty and getting even 1 single kill seems like way more work than ever before. Its become competitive which this game should never be and will never be considering how imbalanced it is. Being even slightly good feels like playing in high MMR matches or against SWFs every single match. The game was never this sweaty before SBMM and survivors should never be in control of the match which 90% of the time, it clearly is.

Thank you for the respectful response, I'm very open to other opinions and I think we can get to a place of mutual understanding.

I agree that this game shouldn't be as competitive as it is. I feel like that is because as gamers, we're often a competitive bunch.

I have a question that I think will better help me understand your POV. When you say "you're coming from a place where you're putting the importance on 4Ks", what do you mean? Do you mean that I think (that is to say, my personal opinion is) that 4Ks are important? Or that I think a casual match means that you can get a 4K?

I agree that at higher skill (from what I've seen from YT and Twitch videos) the game seems to be survivor sided - well SWF sided to be more precise. It probably shouldn't be. All things considered, both sides should have a fair shot at doing well - with skill (and TBH a dash of luck) being the deciding factor on which side ultimately succeeds in their objective.

My experience is different from yours, which has tinted my opinion. The level of sweat that I experienced before SBMM hasn't changed. When I first started playing killer, survivors ran the meta perks and enjoyed teabagging me at the exit gates with their 4 person escape. Since SBMM has started, survivors still run meta perks. What I have noticed is that the survivors I go against now aren't the best as maximizing these perks, and using the tiles to the best of their advantage - which is likely a reflection of my (hopefully improving) skills as a killer.

To be fair, I most likely have smaller sample size to deal with (I started playing around the time Trickster was released) so I'll take your word when it comes to your own personal experiences. I hope your games improve, and that more people move away from this idea that they have to sweat every match.

True but I wish there was more to sbmm tbh.

I was usually altruistic survivor and it made me less of that so I can get "better" teammates.

1k raising mmr is even more of a blow to me honestly. How can you consider 1k a win?

From what I understood from the stream, 1k is a win in the sense that the killer's MMR is calculated from the perspective of them playing 4 games at once. So getting a 4k would be getting 4 wins. What constitutes "winning the trial" for Killer was left undefined, but the goal is that killers should average around 2 kills per trial.

  • No.

I am starting to feel like what people believed to be casual matches under the rank system were them being significantly more skilled/knowledgeable than their opponents; so much so that they could take their time and savor their 4k. You can still have casual matches - I have them all the time as killer - but it's much harder to get a casual 4k when going against players who are near your level of experience.

Fair enough dude. If you're not enjoying a game that you're playing, you're right. There is no point. I hope you can find something that sparks your joy, whether it's in DBD or elsewhere. 😥

  • "Seems like there's literally no point to playing a lot of games"

One would hope that you're having fun playing the games.

  • So if before EGC starts, a killer pins someone in a corner, it's a bannable offense. Does that mean that technically after EGC has started, a killer can bodyblock someone in a corner?

The real life definition really doesn't apply to me because I am nicer online than I am irl.

That being said, your example is less toxic and more whiny beta syndrome.

I can respect someone who is an ahole in real life, but owns it. What bothers me is when people want to be aholes and have people treat them like they are good people lol.

The reason why I call that behavior toxic is because it creates an atmosphere where people don't want to be around you. Whiny beta people are not fun to be around (at least not for me). We have a finite time on this Earth, why spend it around people that kill your vibe?

  • Loosely defined, toxicity is behavior that kills a community.

Ask yourself, would you behave this way in real life? Or do you only do this because you have the protection of anonymity. If you're playing, say texas hold-em poker, with a group of people, and one person:

    • constantly gloats after winning a hand.
    • Tells everyone else at the table that they suck and should get good.
    • Complains when they lose, and accuses other players of having no talent.
    • Makes everyone wait 2 minutes before revealing their winning hand.

and exhibits just bad manners in general, do you think that person will have many people inviting them back to play poker?

  • @EntitySpawn said:

Is there something I'm missing as to why so many people are giving up on the first down/hook?

None of these games are even going bad, people just give up for no reason so its impossible to win

I can't answer for other people, but I can answer for why I did it a few weeks ago. I mostly play solo, and I am generally against DCing or suiciding on hook. A week or two ago I had 2 or 3 straight bad games. I'm not great at looping, but sometimes I do decent. In two or three straight games, I spent the entire match playing like a good teammate. I made sure my teammates didn't go to second stage on first hook. I would hook swap if the person was in struggle state, or I would run distraction to help someone else get them. And in those two/three straight games, I was left to die on the hook every single time. My teammates would either play double dutch on the attempt to unhook me, or simply would sit on gens while I ate a second hook state, or while I died in struggle state. I started playing a game in Hawkins where I unhooked someone, took a hit for them, and ran somewhere to heal up. The person ran the killer to my location, and used me as a distraction to escape. I was downed, put on the hook, and halfway to my second hook state, I noticed everyone was still staying on gens - I snapped and suicided on hook. The moment I tried the first Kobe, someone immediately tried to run to get me, but they got there as I intentionally missed the second skill check.

TLDR; Sometimes it's not about the current match, but the carry-over from bad experiences in the previous matches.

  • People on the forum: "Tunneling and camping are a part of the game. Deal with it. Run DS and BT."

Also people on the forum: "I'm tired of all these sweaty survivors constantly running these meta perks!"

    😂

I feel similar to you OP. Then again, I don't really play killer to "win". Most of the games I play as killer, the only meta perk I see proc is DH. Only time I will tunnel is when someone tries to body block me with BT - but like someone said earlier "I can count to 12". Or sometimes when they BM during chase b/c they want my attention.

I will give props to the forum for convincing me to never go to the exit gates. That has saved me a lot of disappointment. I just go around breaking doors, pallets, and doing other last second BP farming.

  • I hated Haddonfield as a survivor for the longest time. Now it's pretty meh for me. I still hate it as a killer.

  • I'm also looking forward to trying her out once she's been given the directional sound cue.

  • This would be a great change. Keeping people safe and making the game slightly less toxic. I fully support this.

  • When some people on these forums talk about balance, I imagine they mean how feasible/viable it is for them to consistently get 4k as a killer or (full) escape as a survivor. When I think about balance I think about agency. All things being equal skill-wise, is there anything I can do to give myself a chance at success?

  • I like this key change. I think it will have a larger impact on SWF play - which is a good thing. In terms of solo play, I don't think it will have as much of an impact because some selfish solo players will still prefer taking the chances of hiding until the hatch spawns instead of doing gens. Overall, it's a positive change.

If I had to make one change, I'd say the hatch doesn't spawn until one player is left OR all gens are completed. If you do all 5 gens and are able to find the hatch and open it with a key (with an animation that takes the same time as opening a gate) I think it should be fine. To balance it, I would let killer perks that affect the gate affect the hatch as well (Blood Warden/No Way Out etc).

  • I predict a rise in hatch offerings in solo q.

    Lol you’re trying hard huh?

And I’m not wrong literally during that time the only skirts we had was Claudette’s green rarity outfits, Feng Min’s ‘I <3 the 80’s’ collection, and Feng Min’s Lunar Qipao.

Sorry I wanna dress how I dress irl lol

Ok. Let me be sincere in my comment this time.

As someone who has been told that they don't look like their ethnic background, I think that comment is in poor taste. I have latina friends who look like Jane. I've met latinas who look like Nea or Kate. Just because someone doesn't fit your stereotype does not invalidate the authenticity of their background.

If your issue is that you'd like some more diversity in the cosmetics, then that is valid. I can understand and agree with that. Your post, however, came across to me as a typical "I want the women in the games I play to fit my idea of attractive", compounded with what I perceived as a rigid definition of "femininity", led me to believe your post presented a problematic way of thinking. Perhaps that was just my misreading of your intentions. If so, I apologize.

  • *Women exist in a game*

There is nothing wrong with Jane.

As to the comment about skirts and looking more "feminine". Just... oof.

People should realize the game hasn't changed. Its been this way for a long time and has been ignored or dismissed.

Its just the rank based system crowded everyone at the top. Thus matches were a mixed of skilled and unskilled players before.

    This.

As a casual player who just started playing this year, I was consistently mismatched. The matchmaking was terrible. As a survivor, I only made it to purple and consistently played against legit rank 1 killers. As a very casual killer, I only made it to green and I was consistently placed against red rank SWFs. The matchmaking was bad before, but now my experience has improved.

If I had to wager a guess, I would say a lot of the red rank killers on these forums were stomping casuals and newer players like myself. Now that pool is gone, and they are mainly playing against competent survivors or strong SWF teams. That really sucks - but I don't think the solution is to match you against newer/less skilled players. The solution is that SWFs need to be balanced somehow so that they don't steamroll competent killers. How you do that, however, is above my pay grade. 😂

  • Typically, I feel bad because I know there is another human being on the other side of that screen who is not having a good time. I know real well how it feels to get wrecked. So in the rare times when I'm a part of the group doing the wrecking, I usually say "Poor <insert killer>" out loud.

  • The point of SBMM is to place people of relatively equal skill against each other.

Were your matches really that less sweaty before SBMM? Mine were not.

  • Spirit's phasing noise count?

    Doctor's static blast charging sound?

  • Only if some creative player (maybe a streamer) figures out an interesting and strong tactic that everyone will ape instead of coming up with their own idea/play style .

  • So.... Spirit "sucks" now? Cool. Time for me to finally start learning how to play her. 😂

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/281627/the-sbmm-conundrum-in-dbd

So what do you do if you are sweating hard just to get 2 hooks and 0 kills. You'd expect SBMM to rank you down appropriately but that's not happening for me. Every game I get destroyed with all gens done after 1-3 chases and maybe 2-3 hooks.

So after 10 games of this I get 1 game where I can get 2-3k and then its another run of 10 games of getting destroyed. Its not about 4k's or "winning" its about having a good game of horror survival where the likelyhood of getting killed is high so the tension is high. You can't have 1 game in 10 where that happens and feel motivated to keep playing.

So you switch to survivor but then you sit all game on a gen and then walk out the door because the killer only interacts with part of the team spending the whole game just trying to catch that one other survivor.

DBD is now loopy sweat tag and its kinda tedious to play. I haven't had a good nail biter hook exchange game since SBMM was brought in.

Also you are exhibiting this behaviour too with the negative rationalizing of "enjoy your x killers", "enjoy your SWF seat squads". Now whatever you need to do to keep yourself in a good head space go ahead and do it, but a game shouldn't make you feel like you have to do that if its actually fun.

“So what do you do if you are sweating hard just to get 2 hooks and 0 kills. You'd expect SBMM to rank you down appropriately but that's not happening for me. Every game I get destroyed with all gens done after 1-3 chases and maybe 2-3 hooks. “

I'm sorry that has been your experience. I wonder if the experience has been the same for the majority of the playerbase. My experience hasn't been like that – and I definitely hope that your experience improves. I think one of the issue of these forums is that you have a very small but very vocal community expressing their experiences and then normalizing/projecting said experiences as how every player feels.

“So after 10 games of this I get 1 game where I can get 2-3k and then its another run of 10 games of getting destroyed. Its not about 4k's or "winning" its about having a good game of horror survival where the likelyhood of getting killed is high so the tension is high. So you switch to survivor but then you sit all game on a gen and then walk out the door because the killer only interacts with part of the team spending the whole game just trying to catch that one other survivor.”

I understand. No one wants to play a game where they feel like they have no chance of success, even if they are improving. A 9% success rate definitely does little to motivate one to keep playing – and if that is how it continues for you, then you have a more than valid complaint.

I know how a 9% success rate feels. When I first started I hated rift challenges as a survivor that asked you to escape, because I almost never could. It sucked. I got tunneled out because I was often the clear weak link – and somehow I kept getting red rank killers or (what I assumed were) smurfed killers. On the killer side, I hated challenges like the one that askes you to 4k before all gens are complete. I kept going against (what I assumed were) red rank SWFs and experienced survivors who could loop me for days and teabagged at every pallet. The old rank system consistently misplaced me against opponents.

“Also you are exhibiting this behaviour too with the negative rationalizing of "enjoy your x killers", "enjoy your SWF seat squads". Now whatever you need to do to keep yourself in a good head space go ahead and do it, but a game shouldn't make you feel like you have to do that if its actually fun.”

That's a fair point. I didn't add enough context for that statement and it came off more negative than I intended. When I said “enjoy your Nurses/Spirits/Blights” and “enjoy your SWF sweat squads” it wasn't because I have any particular negative opinion towards the people who play those killers or play that style, but because the narrative is that those are currently the strongest S tier killers in the game, and SWFs have the most advantage in the game. These are the only killers that are supposedly viable at high MMR. By making high MMR one's target, by playing as efficient and meta as possible, and if streams/forum and reddit posts are to be believed, you will get to a point where the variety is extremely limited. You will be inundated with matches against those three killers or SWF teams running the most meta perks. If that doesn't sound like “fun” then maybe people should modify how they play. This is what I mean by “You can't eat your cake and have it too”.

The game isn't making us do anything. Last I checked the game has 24 killers with 84 perks and 95 survivor perks. We are choosing the most efficient and powerful play styles because people like to win. Is DBD balanced? No. And by its definition, an asymmetrical game shouldn't be balanced by the conventional definition of the term. Will there always be killer/perk tiers? Most likely. I'm with you that Behavior needs to work on game balance – but how do we achieve balance in an assymetrical game? Personally, I don't think the goal should be to eliminate killer/perk tiers but to significantly decrease the gap in power between the top tier and the bottom tier. If you want a high success rate, play the most efficient killers and use the most efficient perks/add-ons/etc – but do that with the understanding that at the top you will face people with a similar mindset. Otherwise, play whatever you want.

  • Ok, now you have to show us your build. The suspense! 😂

    You're right.

But even then, if kill rates dropped all the way down to 50%, that indicates NOTHING about how well designed the game is, but I expect BHVR to not really care and go "Oh, cool, stats are perfect! Game is balanced!" because why would I expect anything but laziness and fear to make impactful changes from BHVR.

If those 2k games were only possible because of a camp and an endgame kill with NOED or a quick tunnel and a camp to follow it (and I am VERY, VERY confident, from experience on both sides, that a LOT of those 2k games against high MMR players are going to be due to camping and tunneling), then that only shows how awfully designed the game's balance is. I can't even count how many games that I've had to both camp and tunnel to get any kills against high MMR teams because there's absolutely no point in trying to defend a map that's impossible to defend, and I HATE playing this way, but it is what it is. I'm not the only one, that's for damn sure.

BHVR needs to stop hyper-focusing on statistics and numbers and actually address what their game really is at the core. But again, why expect anything but laziness?

If you hate playing that way, then why do you play that way? Is this like when people hate watch a TV show? Are you hate-playing DBD?

I will be the big bad killer that the forums cry about, defying everything in the survivor rule book like some sort of antichrist to maintain it. I am not Otz, I joined during the 5th anniversary. So I need to tunnel, proxy, face camp hook states, blah blah blah. Anything that survivor mains cry about, really. Ruin/Undying/Tinkerer. Heck, I might even start running NOED to bump my average 2k to a 3k. Who knows? I love my BBQ, but it makes me do stupid things like loop house of pain.

For the rest of my killers? We chilling. I can play super nice and prefer to. But on Freddy... 1,2 I am coming for you, and only you. 3,4, you will be bored. 5,6, I will get my fix. 7,8, never leave the hook at this rate.

    Give em' hell. :-)

The problem with your argument is you can apply it to literally any game/competitive environment.

"Bro, why are people trying to be so efficient at MOBAS? Who cares if I want to play support mid"

"why even balance shooters, of course there will always be a meta gun and loadout!"

"Why do people try to devise the best strategy in chess?? who even cares, it's just a game"

"Why do teams analyze their opponents plays and strategies and try to come up with counters? It's not even a big deal, let's just play"

People generally don't play bad on purpose in most mediums/games that have any sort of competitive edge to them. Sure, they might not play on the most cutting edge/meta of things but they don't go out of their way to purposefully lose.

I'm not saying play bad on purpose. I'm saying people shouldn't get so upset that they are getting more difficult matches due to SBMM. If you play your hardest to "win" at DBD, how can you be upset if your opponent does the same?

Somewhere along the lines "strong killers that give me the best chance at a 4k" somehow replaced "viable killers" and "Perks that give me the most meta/efficent advantage" replaced "decent perks".

  • "60% of the killer roster being too weak against competent survivors" sounds like hyperbole.

No one is saying that there aren't things that need to be fixed - but how is that an argument against SBMM? Removing SBMM wouldn't magically fix the balance issues. All that is happening (in theory) is that you're getting more matches against people that are roughly your same skill level, or at least have had the same rate of recent success/failure as you have.

Would you suggest going back to the rank system?

I think half the reason people get so frustrated in this game is because of how seriously people take it. Calm down we’re playing a glorified party game

It really isn't that serious lol.

I'm not going to be a hypocrite and pretend like I don't ever get frustrated - but I usually try to step away and do something else.

  • I know it's unpleasant to hear, but if Wraith beats you to a pallet/vault, has time to uncloak, and hit you, you got outplayed. He read your movements, saw where you were going, and countered your play.

  • Honestly, all that matters is that you are enjoying the perk.
