So instead of addressing OP's concerns you come in here to advertise.
You guys are terrible at reading the room. Can you guys please do better.
OP didn't post concerns. They mocked. OP wrote six sentences, and five of them were blatantly insulting BHVR. Rizzo gave the thread actual intelligent context - DBD isn't permanently free on EPIC. A mistake that anyone who was only hearing about this for the first time on this thread might make.
Seriously, take a chill pill folks.

Franklin's is annoying, but much better in its current form. The only time Franklin's gets on my nerves is when I'm doing one of those "Deplete X item" rift challenges and I'm the first one hit - I loop a couple of tiles before I realize my item is gone. π
-
Nice timing on this thread. BHVR just announced double blood points from Nov 25-29.

That's not a thing. I'm pretty sure I got 4 person SWFs under the old rank system when I was brand new to the game, much less learning a new killer after playing in red ranks.

Sounds like you've had a run of bad luck.

If I don't, I lose.
I don't particularly enjoy losing, so I try my best to avoid that outcome. Sue me.
You prioritize winning over not sweating, and honestly, that's cool. Some people are more competitive than others. However, no one is forcing you to be that way. Just like no one is "forced" to camp/tunnel/gen rush/bring meta perks. People should just own up to their own motivations and stop shifting blame.
"The game needs better balance" - a valid criticism.
"We are forced to do X" - Nah.
-
Since we're sharing streamers and their thoughts on MMR, here is a timestamped 30 seconds that echo my thoughts on it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXPhTXb8CUg&t=4063s -
"Efficiency" is a bullshit copout for playing to win in a manner that is ultimately not very fun for most people involved. If SBMM has taught us one thing it's that a majority of players don't enjoy the game at its most efficient levels.
-
@Pulsar said:

None of that is fun to me.
Why is it too much to ask to be able to play a normal game and have fun?
Fun is what you make of it (within reasonable parameters). The game provides you an experience. If that experience is no longer fun, or the way you play is no longer fun - change the way you play or stop playing. I'm not trying to sound mean, but you can't expect people to make you have fun.
-
I think at the heart of the issue are the concepts of "efficiency", and "winning".
Winning
Most people who play this game want to "win". Most Killers have defined this as some variation of 3 kills. On the survivor side, most people see their victory condition as escaping the trial. The goal of SBMM, as stated by the Devs, is to get that average to be a 2k and 50% escape rate. Most people on the forums do not seem to accept that as a win condition. So to counteract that, they try to run the best builds they can to chase their own win condition. This is why a lot of people say they are "forced to play sweaty". It's a bullshit claim that removes all self-responsibility. They claim that they don't want to play sweaty, but the reality is that they enjoy "winning" more than they enjoy "playing chill". Or they want to play chill while still dominating their opponents. As their MMR goes up they face more efficient competition (because yes, the MMR system is not measuring skill - it's measuring your success), and to maintain their win conditions they feel like they need to use the strongest tools available.
Efficiency
People here seem to prioritize efficiency over everything. What's the point of running a survivor perk like Distraction when you can run Dead Hard? Whenever people complain about camping and tunneling what is often the response? "It's the most efficient way to achieve your objective as Killer". Why do people run DH, DS, and bring strong medkits? "It's the most efficient way to waste the killers time, extend chases, and prevent yourself from being tunneled". Survivors try to finish gens as fast as possible because they want to "win", Killers try to secure as many kills as possible because they want to "win". As you climb up the MMR, you start going against people who play just as efficient as you do - and it sounds like most people don't like that.
IMO people who prefer the old rank system do so because they had a balance of games in terms of the efficiency of their opponents. They would only occasionally play against opponents who played as efficiently as they did - and those games would be balanced by people who didn't play efficiently or simply did not have the same game knowledge. It was great for them - not so much for the people who had no business going up against them in the first place. With SBMM, the more efficient you play, the more efficient your opposition becomes.

I play PS5 no lag usually, I hit people well before the pallet dropped they should have been downed, even the streamer I was going against said I deserved it but they won't complain against it because why would they. But ever since the dead hard validation change I can hit a survivor 3-5 meters from a pallet and it's not considered a hit some how, I literally had a survivor vault and dead hard at the same time and some how they ended up on the other side of the map and at the exit gate. I don't expect this to be looked at anytime soon.
Most annoying is when you hear the hit, scream then 2 seconds later the pallet dropping sound occurs and nothing actually happened.
Whoa. I've never been hit validated that badly. I'm sorry to hear that's your experience. That would be frustrating as hell.
I'm still holding out hope that something is in the works. Would be great to hear something officially.
-
As Survivor I drop my item at the exit gate as a sign of respect, or if I feel bad because it was a baby killer that got abused (i.e outplayed) during the entire match.
As Killer, I accept the item of the last survivor as a thank you. I usually let the last survivor escape. At my skill level, if I'm getting a 4k it's because they were total noobs, or the messed up/snowballed really bad.

I agree with you @EvilJoshy and @VikingDragonXii . Every time I do a mori i'm like "C'mon! C'mon! C'mon! I got people to chase and kill!" and then some other survivor walks up, teabags, and then has time to make distance to a safe loop. π

Kinda like moris
I see an ebony mori every 10-15 matches or so. I've seen a survivor bring a key 3 times in 250+ matches.
That being said, I think the hatch change was a good. The green key, however, should be changed to something completely different that is only focused on aura reading.
-
Everyone's a critic.
-
That information came from a Dev livestream. GoodBoyKaru did a wonderful summary here:
Yoroshiku.
-
If I were to take a guess, I would say that Feng is her family name, and Min is her given name. China has had a longer history of having western media use their family names first. For example, Yao Ming - Yao is his family name. Or President Xi Jingping - Xi is his family name. Japan, ever since the Meji era, has used the western convention for names when written in the Latin alphabet. So ζ¨ζη΅θ‘£(KIMURA Yui) becomes Yui Kimura.
Funny enough, the Japanese government under former Prime Minister Abe announced that starting last year (literally Jan 1, 2020) they would no longer be using the western style when writing their names in English. They want their names to be written family name first, much like the Chinese and Koreans.
TLDR; IMO, Feng Min's given name is Min.

Yes because a trapper being forced to rush forward instead of placing a trap is absolutely a bonus.
A nurse being forced to waste time rushing when a blink is needed is just so damn good, amirite?
Huntress just hooked and sees a target to throw a hatchet at? Nah, she's gonna rush headfirst into a wall instead while that target gets away free.
But yeah, it's totally a good thing to use all the time and the survivor side being able to gain a speed boost on command is totally the worse option. Ya know, a speed boost that against 110 killers makes the survivor nigh uncatchable if they're smart about pallets and windows. Or essentially turns a 115 killer into a 110 in a chase against that survivor. But yeah you're totally right, the random FORCED rushing by killers is clearly the stronger option.
Please, my dude. Ya gotta think a little more critically
Unless it was bugged (which I heard it was), it shouldn't be random. It should activate when you use your power (and you have a token). You should gain a token every time you hook someone. There isn't anything random, or forced about it. If you equip it, you should know how and when to use it.
While I'm sure you want to engage in some kind of "BHVR hates killers" or "Killers have it so hard" conversation, I'm not really interested. If you cannot see how the add-on when used properly changes the fundamental ways you react to killers, and instead want to focus only on the situations where it might be problematic, all in the hopes of proving that it was unfair for the item to not be allowed year-round, then I am not the one who has problems with critical thinking.
-
One is usable up to 12 times a match, and changes the fundamental way that we interact with the game. One is usable once per match.
When talking about Fairness, we need to understand that Equality and Equity are not the same.
-
People make fun of Sluzzy's survivor-centric posts, but don't realize that this is exactly what they sound like with killer-centric doomposting.
-
I liked the hatch change, as it made escaping using the hatch more of a luck thing than a strategy for escaping. Overall, it feels like a healthier change for the game.
That being said, I do think Keys need to be reworked. I don't want them anywhere near their old strength, but it would be nice if the aura reading abilities of the green keys lasted longer.
My idea: Keep the iri key the same. Change green keys to an orb item. One of the main reason I don't bring green keys is because some killers are still stuck in the old key mindset and feel like I'm trying to escape early - so they tunnel me out. At least if they saw an orb at loadout they could realize that I'm just using aura reading abilities.
-
Making it easier to flashlight blind killers would lead to some very toxic play from Survivors.

Have you even met the boon system? 4 survivors, remove 1 totem lights all the boons, noed what? Also noed wasn't a second chance perk anyway to begin with
In my past 50 games as survivor, I have never once been in a match where all 4 boon totems were active at the same time. Even were it to happen, all you would need is one totem unsnuffed for NoED to proc. What you are suggesting is a very unlikely scenario as a counter to a perk.
NoED is very much a second chance perk in that it allows the killer a second chance to snowball at the end of the match. A 1K can suddenly turn into a 3-4K.
-
Killers already have a second chance perk - NoED.

I think I'll be running a couple of experiments on what limited data I can, which got me thinking a bit harder about the problematic collection and presentation of yesteryear regarding trial data.
What do you, fellow killers, survivors, and people who've exited the Fog but are still lurking, think good data sets would be, even if collecting that data might be slightly implausible? Here's a couple of my own thoughts:
- How many hooks, kills, and 'escaped chases' per match, per "rank/MMR"[tier]?
- Which perks, items, addons, and offerings were brought per match, including "N/A", per tier?
- Which survivors and killers were chosen proportionately per match, per tier?
- What maps/killers saw the most kills per match, per tier?
- What maps saw each killer receive the most/least average kills per match, per tier?
- How many average pips were gained per survivor/killer per match, per tier?
Think any of these could be refined, or have any of your own?
Ever since the start of SBMM I have been keeping data on my games as killer and survivor.
As Killer I keep:
Killer Name, Match #, Map, My Killer Perks, Survivor Names, Survivor Perks, Outcome of the Match in Kills/Escape/Hatch, and random observations of what happened.
As Survivor I keep:
Match #, My Perk Loadout, Map, Killer, Killer Perks, Outcome of the Match in Kills/Espcae/Hatch, and observations.
I plan on plugging all of these numbers in a spreadsheet to be able to examine my experience in data form.
-
Honestly, neither.
If I had to choose, I would say when a survivor hits a crucial DH for distance and prolongs the chase. That can be annoying. Otherwise, I appreciate when a survivor makes me whiff with a good DH.
I don't tunnel 99% of the time I play, so I rarely eat DS. It's usually a wasted perk slot for most survivors in my killer games.

Thank you, i will stand in a random corner of the map as Wraith, because i want to have fun and not mental issues in a casual game with MMR for some ungodly reason
OK. But if you then go 4k sprees against the baby survivors and casual players you're playing against, you'll only find yourself back in Sweatland.
-
The killers you are playing against don't know how to kick a gen, but they're able to down you and prevent you from getting rescued?
-
Practice mode with bots and the killers/survivors/perks that you already own. Not just Dwight and Trapper, but every character you currently own, and every map that is available to play in.
-
I agree with Seraphor and StarLost. The old Rank system mainly seemed to work well for experienced players and streamers. Newer and intermediate players had a rough time.
SBMM isn't Skill Based Match Making, it's Sweat/Success Based Match Making. If you play the game super efficiently, you will be placed against people who play the same way as you.
Basically, you have choice. What is more important to you? "Winning" or "Playing Chill"? You can't have both. I personally choose playing chill. Sometimes I get a 4K/3K and Hatch, and sometimes I get wrekt with maybe 1-2 hooks. Sometimes I juice the killer for 3 gens and escape, and sometimes I get tunneled out at 4-5 gens.
If you want to "win" the majority of your matches to increase a meaningless number, you can't complain about going against sweaty opponents.
-
I enjoy the SBMM system much more than the old rank system, and my games as survivor and killer have gotten much more fun because of it.
-
I've been doing something similar since SBMM started. I'm at 224 matches at the moment. I can't wait to see what story my data tells.

Damn. I wish it would spawn at the start of map with everything else, and it cannot be opened until the normal conditions are met (like when it spawns now). At least I could accidentally find it during the trial, and try to remember for the end game. This could work for both Killers and Survivors.
I've been looking through YT guides but the only thing I can find is, if your character is walking on air a little bit, that's where hatch will spawn.
To add some more to your hatch question, there was also an issue with solo queue where once there were 2 survivors left they would stop doing gens and try to camp the hatch. I once spectated a game (coincidentally, a Myers game) where one survivor hid in lockers for 10 minutes while the killer chased and slugged (leaving the survivor in the dying state) while looking for them in the locker. Finally, the slugged survivor crawled on top of the hatch and bled to death. The Myers closed the hatch and was able to kill the last survivor when she tried to do the gates. Basically, knowing where the hatch was incentivized selfish play, and would at times needlessly prolong the game.
The best advice I can give on enjoying this game is not to play competitively. You're still learning, and generally that means you're going to get some lumps.

It honestly wasn't, to me. I was a DS hater. But survivor validation really puts me into a tantrum state!
It's not survivor validation, it's server validation. It went from Killer validation (I'm guessing as hold over from when Killers hosted the matches) to now being neither killer nor survivor sided but server sided.
Previously, Dead Hard's invulnerability was calculated on the Killer's client, which led to survivors needing to anticipate the killer's swing to an unreasonable degree in order for it to work. With hit validation, the server will decide if the hit would have landed and reject it if Dead Hard was active without relying on the Killer's client.
About the feedback mechanic, I meant that people are not realizing their hits were invalidated and looking around to see the survivor is gone - because they hear the scream and assumed it hit. There should be better feedback that your hit was invalidated. I don't know if it should be a sound cue or what, but something that would help Killers to realize what happened so they don't lose even more distance.
-
@hiken said:
people got used to the dead hard post servers, people dont remember how dead hard used to work originally (wich literally was so good that you could react to killer swing, it was that good) the problem is that killers gets the hit and the scream ( thats wrong cause its desorientating getting the hit and the scream still no down or injured and taht should be fixed.)
Agreed. The invalidation mechanic could use improvement in terms of feedback to the killer that their hit was invalidated.
-
As long as the stun animation that you suffer from the invalidated hit due to dead hard equals the same that you would have suffered from a missed swing, it's not a buff or nerf.
-
Nurse. I just don't enjoy trying to outplay her power.
-
I like the idea that it only activates after a hook state. That way, you only get a max of two uses out of it.

I don't think there will be a nerf for Myers. If anything, people have been asking for a rework to his abilities.
Honest question, have you ever tried playing as him?

I'm not misquoting you at any point, kiddo - and while I thank you for your candor and consideration, I'll be the first so say I'm not intelligent. Don't give me too much credit :P
Yes, people are in their feelings. I paraphrased your (continued) insinuations that people are just in their feelings - that the outrage isn't something of tangible value here, through your initial disparagement to your current "what can you do?" rhetoric.
Yeah, I knew BHVR wasn't great before all this. It was never this level of bad, to my knowledge, but their practices and policies have never been consumer-focused - which even shills for unfettered capitalism (not saying you are one, to head off that potential miscommunication) can often agree is a red flag. Consumer and feedback-oriented companies tend to survive and adapt better to changing market values and market value, even with an eye to their bottom line.
Those tweets, however, aren't any absolution for BHVR. The initial response is a clear distancing maneuvre, regardless of those who would prefer to take it literally and ignore context. Yes, it's a non-answer, but it's a directed non-answer, and a fairly transparent ploy to anyone who's worked in or around marketing. The most recent tweets, which probably were contractually obligated to a degree, are an official stance supporting and advocating their partnership and work with Boss - even if BHVR could be said to have done no wrong, that positive association is a damning one.
On our pithy initial comments - I was honestly having fun, and you were the target of a generalization. I maintain the generalization, while hyperbolic, carries truth - but the personal implication wasn't inherently necessary. Sorry if offence was taken.
I do think many gaming boycotts fall through. I know some do see success. I don't know which way this'll go, but I'll not have my Hope Devoured just yet.
I'm sincere about my own (and whatever level others can feasibly support) boycott. I can reasonably deny them my money, and I refuse to deny this issue my time.
I think you might have misinterpreted what I wrote and used my quotes outside of context to make arguments. I haven't been a "kiddo" in a couple of decades, but I'm just going to assume that's a term you use like people would use "dude" and not a patronizing/condescending term. π
I never insinuated people are just in their feelings. The just is an important adverb. People who are outraged that BHVR is supporting NFTs and believe NFTs are terrible have every reason to be upset. The people who are claiming that they were outright lied to are in their feelings, IMO. That was my insinuation. Outside of the good point you made on contractual obligations, my stance hasn't changed from my first post. Seeing that I'm pretty ignorant on the NFTs, I don't feel comfortable giving any opinions on them, but I will take everyone's word for it that they are environmentally damaging. Everyone has that hill that they are "willing to die on" so to speak. That line if a company crosses they can no longer support. NFTs aren't mine, but I respect anyone who has made that decision for themselves.
Agreed. Honestly, the older I get, the more capitalism disgusts me - but that's a longer and possibly political story, so I won't go there. Suffice to say, everyone has different things they can and cannot accept from the companies they purchase goods and services from. We need to understand that it is different for each person, and philosophically speaking it is incredibly difficult to normalize. My stance is: understand where your line is and let your money do your talking.
I'd also like to apologize for my initial reaction that was dripping in sarcasm. I think we agree on more than we disagree, but I also think we are both comfortable with our points of disagreement - and I hope we understand each other a bit better.
I say this with the utmost sincerity and no sarcasm whatsoever: Good luck in your boycott!
-
I just watched a popular streamer post a YT video where they are ripping BHVR for this deal. Saying how BHVR wants to make a quick buck, and that they're done - but of course they will continue to stream DBD because it's how they make their money. π
In all seriousness, I respect anyone who actually protests and stops playing the game. Good on you for standing up for what you believe in. Any one else is just full of it.

Fun lil hypocrisy in both your posts so far :P
Let's break the first one down: "For profit company does (most likely contractually obligated) deal for profit. Consumers outraged. More details at 6."
"For profit company does ... deal for profit" - While I'm sure some people are acting surprised, I'm not, and most people here aren't. BHVR is a pretty scummy company that operates with no real competition in their niche. Pretending that 'people are just in their feelings about this' is textbook disingenuous projection.
"most likely contractually obligated" - This is simply a non-sequitur, and a non-starter as far as a cogent response or assessment. Contracts are agreements: they get reviewed, edited, revised, and generally agreed upon. In this case, the purported price was access to the Pinhead license, and the cost was either larger than BHVR execs realized, or they knew what was going to happen which is what led to this ass-backwards media spin because they chose obfuscation over true deniability. Whether you want to be honest about it or not, BHVR was talking through both sides of their mouth about this entire debacle - their PR team spun and misled people, and people within the company itself are feeling betrayed, whatever you say to yourself.
The general pretense in both your posts that people are just blowing hot air is just dishonest. Some of the most diehard devotees of the game are leaving - this is the first time boycotts are seeming serious, and in the wake of a substantial loss in playerbase following the release of SBMM.
sigh
You strike me as a fairly intelligent individual. I get the feeling, however, that without a representative from BHVR present you want to paint me as some BHVR shill to have someone to be the antagonist in your verbal sparring session. ποΈ
"While I'm sure some people are acting surprised, I'm not, and most people here aren't. BHVR is a pretty scummy company that operates with no real competition in their niche. Pretending that 'people are just in their feelings about this' is textbook disingenuous projection."
You are misquoting me. I don't know if it's intentional or not, so I'm not going to assume either way. I'm not pretending people are in their feelings, people ARE in their feelings. They FEEL outraged. They FEEL disappointed. You said BHVR is a pretty scummy company, is this something you already knew from before? Or is this something you are just now realizing due to this whole NFT ordeal?
To be absolutely clear, the 'in their feelings' phrase came about from my personal observation that a lot of the outrage seems to be coming from people who made assumptions about two tweets - and when their own personal assumptions were proven incorrect (or incomplete) decided to act as if they were the victims of some Machiavellian lie.
Recently thereβs been some talk about NFTs, so we wanted to clear some things up: When we work with our licensing partners, we provide them with in-game models as well as Chapter keys. They are free to use these however they see fit as the rightful owners of these characters.
To be very clear: There is no exclusive in-game content linked to these models when they are distributed outside of the game in any way. We hope this clarifies some of your questions and doubts.
Nowhere in those tweets do they say that they weren't supporting NFTs. Nowhere in those tweets did they say they didn't work with them. They gave a non-answer to the question. Maybe they just didn't feel like we had a right to know. Maybe they didn't care. Maybe they legally couldn't say anything else. Who knows. My only point is that people read what they wanted to read into those tweets, ran with it, and then went on to say they were lied to. As if BHVR outright said "We have nothing to do with this" and then later said "We did this." If you have some source where BHVR outright lied to us (e.g. the people who buy these NFTs get to unlock the voice for Pinhead), I will gladly stand corrected.
This is simply a non-sequitur, and a non-starter as far as a cogent response or assessment.
Fair point. I gave them too much credit on the contractual side. Maybe they knew or maybe they didn't realize the extent of their contractual obligations. Either way, they agreed to it and are liable for all of the blow-back. They put their bottom line first - like most companies do.
Whether you want to be honest about it or not, BHVR was talking through both sides of their mouth about this entire debacle - their PR team spun and misled people, and people within the company itself are feeling betrayed, whatever you say to yourself.
Again. They weren't talking through both sides of their mouth - they barely talked at all. The little scraps of information we did receive were non-answers.
The general pretense in both your posts that people are just blowing hot air is just dishonest. Some of the most diehard devotees of the game are leaving - this is the first time boycotts are seeming serious, and in the wake of a substantial loss in playerbase following the release of SBMM.
Scummy companies will do scummy things. The majority of companies put money before morality, and this is what we get.
I've seen "gaming boycotts" before. I remember when people were going to boycott Left 4 Dead 2 because of something Valve did (I can't quite remember). Then on release day, the most vocal people who were screaming about being outraged were screencap'd as all playing the game. If this boycott is serious, then GOOD! I'm all for it. Companies don't react to outrage unless it hits their pockets. I hope everyone who posted saying they were done follow through. If you don't, you only prove them right, and make them less concerned about whatever their next scummy move is. If you don't follow through, then yes, you were only blowing hot air.

Agreed. Ever since the whole removing of the voice lines, BHVR seems to be walking on eggshells around the issue of Pinhead. I wonder if the the entire truth will ever come out.
