ohhh that makes sense. so they COULD have 99ed it but there was no point. when opening the gate, were you locked in animation? if not, did progress reset if you stopped opening the gate? i just cant remember any of this stuff for some reason

Opening the gate worked the same way it does now. Survivors could stop opening at any point and there was no regression on progress. So, you could partially open a gate, run away when the killer shows up, and someone else could finish opening it. Just like now, only since there was no timer it was actually best to completely open the exit gate before making a save.

Edit: I forgot! There was one reason to 99% the exit gates before the EGC: to try to avoid Bloodwarden. Duh. But yeah, that was pretty rare.

  • Before the EGC, there was no timer to end the match. Survivors could open the exit gates, then screw around on the map indefinitely. There was no reason to 99% the exit gates because there was no end-game timer to avoid.

Is that what they renamed auto aim to? At least give me the option to disable it. It has helped me land maybe 3 hits since I started playing and has hindered literally dozens. The worst is when it auto snaps you to a pallet or something. What kind of "dressing" turns my character 180 degrees? I want zero handicaps, and I especially don't want handicaps that others can exploit.

When devs defined what "aim dressing" is, they specified that it will never help a killer land a hit they shouldn't have; it can only cause killers to miss hits they should have made. There's no aim assist or auto aim, there's nothing to help killers land a hit. Huntress doesn't even get a crosshair.

They won't let killers disable it because aim dressing is there to make the animation look better. There's no gameplay benefit to it; it's just for visuals.

  • I would love that. Being able to switch between the 2018 Hallowed Blight and the new Silent Hill menus... ah, heaven.

Hi there. New to killer. I kicked generators quite a few times in one match but it only registered that I kicked a generator twice.

Can you keep kicking a generator non stop? It kept giving the prompt to damage generator right after I had just kicked it. Does this mean my kicks weren't working? Thanks in advance!

If you kick a generator and then it gives you the prompt again without a survivor touching it, that probably means you didn't fully damage the generator. If you let go of the button even slightly early, then it won't count. When the generator is damaged, you'll see sparks come out of it and you'll get a little BP notification on the side of the screen telling you you got points for damaging the generator.

recently they stopped the noise for all dc's so you can't say it was unintentional or intentional because of that. Penalties are IN EFFECT right now and was announced in the game news, you can see it if you click that in the main menu and scroll down just a tiny bit.

Thank you for the clarification on both accounts! I forgot all about that news announcement; it's such a tiny little thing buried under huge Rift and Cosmetics announcements.

You are not making any sense saying that people are banned for doing officially stated game objective if it takes them too long, where "too long" is an arbitrary undefined number.

And he did literally say that. I'm quoting. "The longest you can stay on a hook is 2 minutes (+34 seconds if you happen to have Camaraderie). Beyond that, nobody is allowed to take the game hostage."

This literally said that anything beyond 2 minutes and 34 seconds is not allowed. Anyway, don't bother replying as there is too much nonsense for me to bother with here. I'm unsubbing from this thread. Have a good day.

lol Peanits wasn't saying that no one is allowed to take the game hostage beyond 2 minutes 34 seconds. He was responding to someone asking why killers are allowed to take the game hostage (the thread is literally titled "Why are killers allowed to take the game hostage but survivors aren't?"), and he was saying that no one is allowed to take the game hostage on either side. https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1259979/#Comment_1259979 There's the link to the actual comment, since you seem to need context and also proof that the screenshot isn't a fake.

I mean maybe I'm incorrect. I hope I'm incorrect. Last I heard, they were disabled because of some hacker stuff going on.

Anyway, if you know where you saw that said or whatever, please link me it because I don't want to spread misinformation. :P Also, I want to know if I've also just been getting mass amounts of people disconnecting even though the penalties are back. I've had multiple games in a row with disconnects recently. More of them than not, in fact.

I could've sworn I saw someone talking about the disconnect penalties returning a few days ago, but I'm lazy and the forum search is broken right now. This thread posted today though suggests that the DC penalties are back: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/177256/dc-penalty

I don't know for sure, though. If anyone has a definite answer on whether or not DC penalties are in effect right now, it'd be much appreciated.

  • The very first sentence: "The survivors can get punished to after an extended period of time, if the killer proves they were not bugged or stuck somewhere."

The title of that thread is "Was just held hostage for an hour as the survivors did nothing but hide all game."

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/92088/was-just-held-hostage-for-an-hour-as-the-survivors-did-nothing-but-hide-all-game/

I'm pretty sure this is not the only time a mod/dev has specified that yes, hiding and refusing to work on gens is a bannable offense, but this was the easiest instance to locate with forum search being broken right now.

EDIT: Here's another quote stating the same thing https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1006825/#Comment_1006825

I believe I was very polite in explaining my viewpoint. You don't have to attempt to offend me if you disagree. Watch your language please. You need to learn difference between "facts" and "opinions" before you make blanket statements.

It is a fact that survivors not working on generators for an extended period of time counts as holding the game hostage, that's what people are saying.

    @Rizzo said:

For everything else you can just consult the game rules:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/19450/game-rules-and-report-system

I'm also gonna close the thread, people kept trying to derail it and started attacking each other instead of discussing the topic.

As you can see, it has been officially specifically stated that it is bannable.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1496951#Comment_1496951

Incorrect. Camping in basement is not reportable. Here is the list.

THE FOLLOWING ARE NOT CONSIDERED BANNABLE OFFENSES - PLEASE DO NOT REPORT

    • Camping
    • Slugging
    • Tunneling
    • Streamsniping
    • Teabagging
    • Bodyblocking
    • Looping

"Camping" means killers camping a hook: that is not reportable. If survivors are stealthing around the map for an extended period of time and no one is working on generators, then they're not furthering the objective and there's no way for the match to end unless the killer disconnects (survivors who are not working on gens can stealth around the map indefinitely and avoid being found). Devs have specifically said it is bannable. I have reported such behavior in the past.

  • @Huff said:

Yes. It's because they took out the DC penalties and people are babies.

Is it playing the "Death sound"? (The "Doing!" noise)

If it plays the sound it was 100% an intentional DC because it only plays if they manually hit Leave Match.

If there's no sound it may have been a connection error, crash, or they pulled the cord.

Does it still do that? I'm pretty sure I haven't heard that sound play when someone disconnects in months (PS4 here). I had a definite purposeful disconnect a few days ago where they DC'd the moment I downed them for the first time, it happened so fast they had to have done it through "Leave Match" or "Close App," but no sound played.

So, my question remains: is anyone else experiencing a large number of survivor disconnects?

  • That happens pretty much every time I equip Kindred. At least for me, it often has the opposite effect of what you'd expect.

  • So, rather than letting a killer dodge a lobby they don't want to play against, you'd rather they afk in a corner while survivors do gens and leave? 'Cause that's what I do when I don't feel like playing against a team. That's survivor add-ons and offerings wasted. I can't tell you how many times I've seen survivors lose more in add-ons/offerings than they earned in BP at the end of those matches.

And when I play survivor, I do not want to be the odd one out in a lobby with three Blendettes. Those matches suck, because I'm the only survivor the killer can see. I should be punished with a five-minute wait time because RNG threw me into a guaranteed misery of a lobby?

I don't even understand the problem, really. When a killer leaves a lobby, the survivors aren't sent back into the queue: the lobby remains, and (I think) it gets priority in terms of finding a killer.

  • If only, but they never do. I stopped going to the exit gates a long time ago, but they almost always stick around until the last second.

I find the best thing to do is AFK in a corner or go look for the hatch. Every once in a while I get the chance to deny the hatch to a survivor or even close it for a few extra points.

Leatherface is based on a real serial killer called Ed Gein. For that reason I don't see why they can't create a killer inspired by the Zodiac killer. Lots of films and books are based on real events so why should games be any different.

Uh, not really. Ed Gein inspired a lot of movie killers; certain aspects of Leatherface were inspired by him, but Leatherface is not based on him. The claim the movie made that it was "based on true events" was just marketing.

Anyway, the devs have specifically said they're not going to put real serial killers in the game. Yes, the question has been asked before, and the devs gave a definitive answer.

Now, when they create original characters, they probably look at events and individuals throughout history to get inspiration (The Doctor is inspired by an actual person), so some elements from serial killers may be there, but people have requested blatantly putting real serial killers in the game and that's never going to happen.

  • The theme should come with the Silent Hill PS4 DLC. Why does the Silent Hill chapter cost more on PS4 than on Steam and then not even bother to come with the theme? That's really not cool.

They basically punish long-time players by not letting them get the theme without buying the complete game plus duplicate DLC. New players should not get access to something in a way that excludes loyal long-term customers. That's bad business practice. It alienates the people who consistently purchase their product.

  • I burn a cake, get tunneled out, and end up with less than 8k total for the match. I've gotten less than 20k when 5 cakes are burned in a match.

So yeah, I'm not being cheap, it's that I'm not earning cakes by burning cakes, I'm just losing.

  • My thumb slips or I lose the rhythm pretty often while having to press the stupid button on my controller. Struggle state is an awful mechanic. Really [BAD WORD]ing awful. I've also had the game screw up and kill me when I never stopped pressing the button, but I did see lag onscreen. I've died right as people come to save me. It sucks. Players shouldn't be able to die accidentally during a minute-long state on the hook. It's an absolute [BAD WORD] mechanic.

  • Did you get two crowns for Frank or something? Or are you upset that there are only two crowns, one for Frank and one for Julie, instead of four? I know it sucks that Susie and Joey are left out, but they aren't the defaults.

  • Are flashlights broken? Because these days it seems like I get blinded even if I'm not looking in the direction of the survivor with a flashlight. I dunno if it's latency or what, but Lightborn has a permanent spot in my perk lineup right now because even facing walls doesn't seem to 100% work.

  • I've been using Lightborn the past week or so just because I'm lazy and tired of all the flashlight spam due to the stupid Tome challenge. I leave it on whether I see a flashlight in the lobby or not, because it seems like 90% of items pulled out of chests during this event are flashlights. Lightborn as it is right now is handy but not perfect. The upcoming change to Lightborn sounds fantastic.

  • Killer is at 100% sensitivity. I think survivor is like 80%, I dunno. I should mess around with the survivor sensitivity and see if it has any effect, but I've been lazy about it.

  • That add-on sounds awful.

I hope they don't mess with Carburettor Tuning Guide. I don't remember what other add-ons I used, maybe The Grease, but CTG is definitely my fav of his add-ons. Please let that one get by unscathed.

But it was a very simple and original concept, i think that everything can be difficult for new people playing this game, just a little practice and then it’s more easy

I'm just telling you that's one of the reasons they gave for changing it. That being the case, I doubt they're going to make him more confusing by giving him the ability to completely change his powers with an add-on. That would make him worse than he was before the change.

Specific things mentioned by the devs that they didn't like were his being able to see the auras of sleeping survivors and the fact that all survivor actions were slowed down while asleep. So, if they did bring any part of his old kit back, those parts would almost certainly be removed. That leaves, what? Needing to ask permission before hitting a survivor by spending 7 seconds putting them to sleep?

You're not the first person to request this as an add-on, and I don't think the devs gave any response previously.

  • One of the reasons they changed Freddy's power is because new survivor players didn't understand it and had no idea how to counter it... returning those powers with an add-on would make him even more confusing for survivors than he was before.

  • @Primalux135 said:

I dont wanna be the killer main but maybe they could add like for 5 secs you can see the one who saved from cage to compensate.

Yeah, this thought occurred to me, too. Giving PH some sort of information to compensate would be nice. And/or the survivor making the uncage shouldn't lose Torment if they have it applied. I dunno, something. This basically just gives survivors a free rescue with little danger. I mean, I'm not necessarily against PH being unable to see the cage auras, because getting tunneled out as a survivor really does suck, but nothing was done to compensate for this large change to his kit. Information is sooo important when playing killer and caging a survivor now requires giving up a lot of info and for what, so two survivors can lose Torment with no way for the killer to intervene? At least before you had a chance to chase off any Tormented survivor and force an un-Tormented one to make the rescue, and that would give you three survivors not working on gens.

Torment isn't easier to apply after this change, but it is easier for survivors to get rid of it since the killer can't see the cage aura. Torment only seems like a threat now if the killer foregoes caging and saves it for the mini-mori.

  • I do it for the BP, mostly. And I choose killers who usually have some passive way to earn Deviousness points, that way if I'm having a bad game against survivors who greatly outskill me, I can just go off and use my power to earn points without them. As survivor, I often get tunneled out of the game, netting me fewer BP. Also, queue times are longer, which makes the BP earning as survivor even worse. Frustrating games feel more frustrating when the queue is longer. A short queue means I can just hop into the next match, which is why I always choose the role with the shorter queue; during the times I play, that's usually killer.

  • @SpaceCoconut said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1405643#Comment_1405643

This is actually what I've been doing. I just try to get everyone tormented then mindgame the ranged attack and M1 for the rest of the match.

It's not very engaging gameplay imo

The ranged attack is what I have fun with while playing as him. Sending people to the cage was nice for the Deviousness points. I'd hook survivors once for BBQ, send them to the cage the second time for the Deviousness points, then let everyone go. I'll try to keep doing that since I'm not "playing for real" right now, but if I notice I'm losing a lot of momentum and BP because I can't quickly find the next survivor I'll have to give up the Deviousness points from caging.

I already didn't like that the person making the save also lost Torment. Many survivors during my matches completely avoid getting Tormented even once, so having two lose it from one caging really sucked. Now you lose Torment on the second survivor while also giving up valuable information about where survivors are located. That's a lot to lose.

  • I used to have 170+ on Pyramid Head (at one time, not altogether if you take into account using them as I got more). At the end of last night, I think the number of cakes on him was down to like 80.

  • I didn't go after the uncaged person, but knowing where they were was helpful for knowing where the other survivors were. If I hadn't found another survivor yet, I could try to find the uncager. Now, the only situation in which caging is good is if you have another survivor right in front of you. Otherwise, the loss of information could cause the killer to lose any and all momentum they may have had. Trying to save Torment for the mini-mori is probably the best way to go.

  • I used the 140% cakes constantly while playing killer. It was the smart thing to do: your own cakes benefited you more when they were 140%. Now, other people's cakes benefit me, but my own cakes benefit me less. Considering how bad most of my killer matches have been, I doubt I'll be burning cakes anymore now that they're fixed.

  • Tier 1 Myers should be immune to Spine Chill. He's slow and he needs to look at survivors to stalk them. He used to be immune while in EW tier 1, back before the "Undetectable" status was a thing; it was changed for "consistency," but making everything consistent across the board ruins some of the uniqueness of the killers.

Yes, I am the rank 1 survivor, i don't know why the other dudes can't see this.. I mean.. it's really obvious xD

haha yeah that was the first thing I noticed before even scrolling down to see the killer's rank. I think a lot of people are used to killers posting about the bad matchmaking and they forget that 1. the survivors may not be having fun when there's no challenge, or 2. the survivors may have empathy. It's a crazy idea that maybe not everyone enjoys steamrolling unskilled players.

  • @SloppyKnockout said:

I'll say it again - stop using matchmaking and ranks as an excuse for you losing. Ranks, even by the DEVELOPERS OF THE GAMES admission, are just a participation trophy. It takes nothing but playtime to rank up, ESPECIALLY as survivor. Even to rank 1.

Go into solo survivor, get to red ranks, and tell me your team mates are good. Do it.

    You can't.

Obviously he’s a relatively new killer and even if those red tank survivors don’t deserve to be there, (which they probably don’t) They’re still gonna have way more time in the game and are going to be much better in most cases.

I just got to rank 4 for the first time a few days ago and have found out red ranks mean nothing so I do understand that lol

The rank 1 survivor at the top is the one that's highlighted, so unless he's posting someone else's screencap... isn't he the rank 1 survivor?

  • What makes a killer annoying? And what makes a killer fun to play against? Not being sarcastic, honestly just wondering what your criteria are.

  • As long as you kinda somewhat participate, you should be fine. AFKing as Wraith will get you reported and possibly banned if you do it repeatedly, but you're not going to get banned if you at least pretend to chase a few times or something. Walk around as Doc and shock people a few times or put some traps down as Trapper or whatever.

Just be aware that de-ranking isn't going to help you that much. I'm rank 16 and I still get purple and red rank survivors in my matches. There is no de-pipping past rank 16 except for disconnecting (which will get you banned) and rank reset.

  • I haven't minded gen rush these past few days. They leave after a few minutes with like 10k (or fewer) points and get to go back to waiting in a 30 minute queue while I get another instant queue as killer where, even if I don't make many Bloodpoints, the matches and queue are so quick that it adds up fast.

Gen rush only hurts the group with the longer queue, and on PS4 that's survivor. I can't imagine those games are fun for them, are they? Thirty minutes in a queue just to do gens and leave? I don't get it.

  • @gatsby said:

    @TheRockstarKnight

I'm not making an S-Tier perk here. It's basically a perk that balances the entire Obsession perk lineup.

Combos well with the Killer Perks: Nemesis, Furtive Chase and STBFL making them all more usuable.

Also, punishes Survivors for running most Obsession perks because suddenly being the Obsession has a tangible drawback.

But it actually doesn't punish survivors for running "most" obsession perks, because the most run obsession perk is DS. At least, it doesn't punish the survivor who runs DS, just some poor unlucky bastard, since DS causes a random survivor to be chosen as obsession.

  • I usually let all the survivors go in my matches. Sometimes I don't even hook anyone. I wish people wouldn't say everyone plays a certain way due to anecdotal evidence. Both sides can seriously suck. I have some miserable games as both survivor and killer, but I know not everyone is out to make others miserable, it's just some players. It's just bad luck to have multiple crappy games in a row, or it's due to your specific region/platform/time of day. Not everyone shares the same experience in their matches.

  • I like to use Whispers, Distressing, Unnerving Presence, and Overcharge on Doc. That's been my go-to build for a long time.

  • "Survivors shouldn't be punished for actually doing a good job and getting to end game"

So why does the match even continue after all the gens are completed? Shouldn't it just end the moment the last gen pops? I mean, what you're basically suggesting is that the match is already over, the survivors have won. How dare the killer present some sort of danger when survivors are supposed to just be running their victory lap.

Let's face it, once an exit gate is open, the killer is a lot less dangerous. If survivors can work together halfway decently, the killer might as well just stand in a corner and go AFK rather than attempt to attempt to present an obstacle to their escape because it'll be just as effective.

You know, in normal games, the end-game boss gets stronger, not weaker. Rarely in a game do players get to a certain point where the opposition stands aside and says, "Oh, wow, you got this far? Here, let me hold the door open for you on your way to the trophy." And in DbD, the survivors actually have a chance to prevent their opposition from ever getting stronger just by cleansing dull totems.

Do I like going down to NOED? No, of course not. I also don't like seeing a gen kicked back to 0 by PGTW or being found because the survivor healing me failed a skill check. It's part of the game.

  • Legion. Their power is boring and very punishing for being non-lethal. For most killers, it feels rewarding to use their powers (landing a ranged attack hit or catching someone in a trap or surprising someone), but Legion's power doesn't feel rewarding at all.

  • Honey butter is amazing ❤️

  • It kinda makes sense. It means the killer can't camp a crown just to prevent survivors from getting it. If a spot a crown appears in is in the middle of nowhere and no one's going to find it, at least it won't be there all game and will pop up in a more trafficked area. I just wish it wouldn't disappear right as I run up to it and go to pick it up. Like, c'mon, give me a few seconds when I'm in proximity.

  • I think the event would've been better if they'd put in a "safety net" for survivors trying to get crowns. So, just by playing, you can earn pieces of the crown. Die or escape without a crown? 1/10. Die with a crown? 1/5. Escape with a crown? Boom, you get the crown, done. That way, when someone keeps trying and failing in seriously unfun matches, at least they know that they are slowly working towards getting the crown and their efforts so far haven't been for naught.

  • Nah, no in-game advantages, that'd be uncool.

The ability to sell back add-ons/items/offerings/perks for a percentage of the BP after reaching P3-50 with a character would be nice. That functionality feels long overdue.

1 … 95 96 97 98 99 … 139
