This right here is definitely the definition of selfishness. You bully BHVR into getting what you want then complain about it more. Demanding a refund is not something you have a right to especially since its in the EULA. Didnt read it? Thats your fault, Bruh. You bought it so quit complaining. Even if it is a cash brah it pays for all the work they put into all your selfish desires. If you dont like it THEN DONT BUY THEIR #########
Customers are allowed to be unhappy with the way they're treated and speak up about it. BHVR is a company releasing a product. Customers either speak up so that they're happy with what they're paying for, or they stop being customers. If enough people stop being customers, there stops being a product.
Many companies will refund the difference if something goes on sale within a week or two of purchasing it. Why? It's good business. It keeps people happy. It retains customers, and that in the long term means more money. I can tell you right now from past experience, if the players who purchased the skins don't get refunded the difference, they will no longer be day-one purchasers. They will wait, and once you wait a week or two then you lose enthusiasm and just wait indefinitely for a sale if you ever even buy it at all. It will be lost money for BHVR.
It's not selfish to want to be treated fairly. You do realize the ones who are feeling shafted right now are the loyal players who love this game and put a lot of time and money into it, right? Those are the people who bought the skins day one and thus don't get the benefit for the sale. They're not selfish, they want to get the same benefits BHVR is giving everyone else, but because they were enthusiastic about the game they are not getting the same benefits.
You know what I am? I'm a player who has gotten pretty unhappy about the state of this game over the years, especially with its performance on PS4, so at this point I put little to no money into it. I save my shards for chapter releases. I did not buy the new skins because I just didn't care. You know what happened? The skins went on sale and 9k shards is like nothing so I bought a couple. Woohoo! I benefited from the sale! Meanwhile, the people who actually want to support the game got totally shafted.
Is that fair? Should I be the one to come out ahead instead of the people who have real enthusiasm for the game? Is that a good way for a company to treat its fanbase?

After the second head-on I probably would've gone afk at an exit gate. I don't wanna get stunned over and over, and they apparently don't wanna do gens, but which side will win that battle of wills?
(Unless I was in a really, really memey mood. But when I meme it's usually teabagging as Ghostface or something. Getting stunned just does not feel fun.)
There've been times I used Head On just once to stun the killer for a challenge and I still felt like a dick for doing it. I felt bad, baiting a poor Doc by blowing up a gen just so I could hop in the locker and wait for him. I survived that match somehow, but I stayed behind and had him hook me, anyway. (If I do well against a killer, I know that killer must be low rank and inexperienced as hell; I don't feel good about that.)

The problem is that every year people need to complain. 2 years ago, it was about the vials being separate from killer and survivor and the waiting times for killers being very high. So people complained and they merged the vials so you could play either role and get them all. Last year, they only wanted to give 1 free outfit, people complained again and we got two of them. Now, this year, no free outfits and they were very pricy. People complained, they lowered the cost and we will get daily log in bonus so people can at least get one of these outfits for free. But why keep making mistakes year after year? And worse, only try to fix things if people complain...
It's not even just that they make mistakes year after year, but that even after said mistakes are "fixed" the event is still worse off than it was the year before. They had a new mechanic and the ability to earn two full outfits in 2018. Then, in 2019 there are no pustula plants and only one earnable outfit; when they altered it due to complaining, we got the second earnable outfit back but the fun event was still heavily neutered to instead focus on the Rift. This year, they offer zero earnable outfits; instead, they put outfits in the store at the expensive price. When people complain, they put them on sale and offer one outfit for free. (Of course, I don't think most of us were asking for a free outfit we get just by logging in; we wanted a reward to work towards by playing the game.) So, the event was originally nonexistent and now after backlash the event is half of what it was last year which was already less than what it was the year before. This is not a good pattern.
As the company grows, shouldn't events get better rather than worse? Wouldn't we usually expect to see a game build on a past event rather than strip it down? Right now, the future looks bleak.

No, you should never, in any circumstance, "be happy you got anything" when it comes to a product you've paid money for. This isn't a charity for them, and it's not a charity for you, either. You should always be demanding more bang for your buck from any product or service you pay for. And then the company behind that product or service will be trying to get more dollars from you than they put into the product or service.
The whole thing kind of falls apart and becomes a shitshow when consumers are "grateful" for being allowed to spend less-than-a-ridiculous-amount-of-currency-that-still-took-hundreds-of-hours-to-earn in exchange for a skin. It's okay to enjoy something, or to think you got a pretty good deal, but going "oh well, at least it's something" means the product or service is not meeting your expectations.
^ This. For god's sake, people, this. Just because a company offers you something more than what it was before doesn't make it good. "Better" does not equal "good."
BHVR is a business, not a charity. Doing events, rewarding players, keeping their playerbase happy, that's what game companies do to retain players. It's not charity, it's good business. If people who spent/spend money on this game are unhappy, they can and should speak up. If you tell paying customers who are unhappy to just "be happy with what you get," they will no longer be customers.
Last year, BHVR did less for Halloween than they did in 2018. This year, they're doing even less than what they did last year, and their "olive branch" is still less than what they did last year.
You can't expect long-time players to be happy when they get less and less from a product.

I find this Rift to be the most disappointing by miles. The only thing I like is Kate's hair. Maybe. It's hard to see it well on the preview screen.

Where you went wrong here is you simply didn't plan out your purchases properly. If you are on the forum you will have noticed a trend of people complaining about not enough free stuff and BHVR in kind responded with this new event. What you should have done is wait till the last day or two of the event where you buy whatever your heart contends to. by doing this you are playing with the skins you know for a little longer but you get the best return on your effort and currency. As far as the EULA goes its like going to any store in the U.S. They have the right to refuse service for any reason, period. Just because BHVR and Steam partner to put this game out to us it is ultimately BHVR's call as to refund you or not. I urge you to next time sit on your currency and watch what the community starts demanding. BHVR give us an awful lot of play and tries to appease even the most demanding of players. I hope you can understand what I am trying to get to you and I hope you take this lesson in stride for future purchases.
No, they don't have to. We know they don't have to. We're saying they should.
A lot of stores will refund the difference if someone buys an item and it goes on sale within a week of purchase. Why? It's good business. Customer retention is important. And which customers bought the skins day one? Probably the hardcore loyal fans who put a lot of time and money into the game. They should not be treated like their time and money is unimportant. If they feel shafted, they will leave. And even if they don't leave, they won't forget. If BHVR doesn't refund the difference, there are a lot of customers who will not buy cosmetics and even possibly chapters right when they come out. More people will wait for sales.
Again, the people who somehow love this game enough to buy cosmetics day one should not feel shafted and left out when BHVR rewards players Returning players should feel appreciated and thus happy so they spend more money. Unhappy players (like me) barely put a dime into this game. Guess what? I benefited from this cosmetics sale. Is that fair at all?
-
Does anyone know the math of how many hours it takes to earn shards? I'm curious how many hours it takes to earn 9k shards vs 21,600 shards.
-
It would make sense if a lot of people were playing him to celebrate Halloween. Or if casual players came in and chose him because of his iconic Halloween horror status.
I've been playing Myers, but I always play Myers because I just enjoy staying in Tier 1 and remaining Undetectable all match.
-
The irony here is that it's probably the super dedicated players who already bought the outfits. And who gets the benefit of this sale? The people who shrugged and were like, "Eh, cool, but I don't need them." That's what I did. I saw them, thought they were too expensive, and also wanted to wait to see if BHVR backtracked on this really poorly thought-out event. I've also been burned in other games (Battlefront II released an amazing Legendary skin, you know the expensive stuff, and then right after gave it away for free for completing a simple challenge. I was pissed. It was unprecedented, and there was no compensation to those of us who'd only just bought it. And you know what I got from the forums? The same kind of lack-of-sympathy that others are getting here.) and learned my lesson about buying stuff without waiting.
Again, the really messed up thing is that the people who buy the stuff right away are the ones really supporting the game, and to not give them a refund for the difference is like saying "Your support isn't valuable to us. You don't get the same benefit the other people who didn't care enough to purchase these right away are getting."

I managed to get this charm yesterday on PS4. Against all odds, the streamer posted the full code, I took 26 seconds to type it in (I was curious and went back to see), and I still somehow managed to unlock it. They didn't have a lot of viewers and I guess some people weren't paying attention because the streamer was going afk for a minute. (I think it's because my friend told me not to bother because there was no way I could get it with the full code posted all at once, and I did it anyway. Hah! Showed him.)
Anyway, it is possible to get the charm, even on console. It's still a sucky way to do it, given the possibility of stream lag plus how godawful long the codes are and that it's only ten--freaking ten--uses per code. There were much better ways to do this that would reward players for watching streams while allowing them to still play the game (rather than sitting in the DbD store) and not have to stress out competing to get a charm for a code with 10 uses when some streams have thousands of viewers competing for the same charm. Such a limited-use code that's basically a gamble where the odds are not in your favor is not a way to reward players/viewers.
-
People aren't even asking for "free cosmetics." Events like these are meant to bring in new players and increase player retention. For Halloween, many games release items/cosmetics that can be earned by playing the game. Playing the game is what the company wants people to do; it benefits both sides to do events in that manner.
(Right now, Dying Light is doing a double XP event. I've played that like mad and leveled up a bunch, it's super sweet. I also bought two DLC packs from them for cool new weapons. I wonder if that's related? Hmm.)
People are shifting the narrative to say "you guys want free stuff." Well, no, we want a fun event. We want events like BHVR has done previously. I'm not asking for a cosmetic that I get just for opening up the game without even playing.
Giving players extra incentives to play your game is a good thing to do. Hopefully they'll stick around, continue to play, and buy stuff from your store.
For this 2020 event, BHVR is giving out stuff that specifically doesn't require people to play the game. Open up the game once a day? Earn a free cosmetic, don't even have to play. Or keep the store open while watching a streamer so you can type in a code for a chance at a Dwightcrow charm, which actually specifically requires people not to play the game.
Whatever, in some ways this is better for me. I'm on PS4, so I can't really play much; I've found the only way to get around the massive frame drops is to stand still and not move.
-
Because the only fix I've found for the slideshow-like framerate on PS4 right now is to stand still in one spot. And mine isn't as bad as some I've seen posted, but it's still bad enough that at times it's unplayable and I just go afk at a door.
The way it plays on PS4 is nothing like the way it plays on PC. Unless you've experienced it firsthand, you wouldn't understand. Players who have played it on both PC and PS4... their reactions are the best: they usually say that PS4 performance is even worse than they realized.

Huh, from what I heard the first iteration of the event was deeply flawed because people would just ignore gens to harvest the flowers leading to killers easily 4K'ing every game. Truthfully I had taken a break from the game when the first Halloween event was under way so perhaps it's flaws were exaggerated. I remember really enjoying last year's one because there was no intrusive new objective, you just played the game and as long as you were completing the rift you'd get the skins no problem. The double bp meant that I was basically swimming in bloodpoints which was great. I hear we're getting double bp this year too but it's a week after the event's start so it seems like more of a hasty apology for the garbage event rather then a genuine sign of good will.
I almost never had survivors suicide in my matches. To me the event was fun, the matches were usually pretty relaxed, and I liked the Halloween atmosphere in the game.
Watching the stream yesterday, it sounded like the Double XP is to celebrate McCote's birthday and is separate from the event, though maybe I misheard so don't quote me on that.

@Tsulan said:
So we have to choose between playing the game and watching others play the game, so we get a tiny chance to get the charm.
Do they not want us to play their game?
That's what I keep saying! It makes no sense.
I mean, people can either watch the streamers and sit with the store open waiting to enter a code, or they can play the game. They can't do both. And since the charms are limited while playing the game in general is not, there's no incentive to play the game over trying for the charm. It's like BHVR doesn't want people playing the game. What good is a DbD event that only has survivor mains playing while everyone else is glued to Twitch streams?
(Yes, this is a bit of hyperbole, not every person who plays killer cares about the charm, but you get my meaning. This code mess encourages the opposite of what BHVR should want from its playerbase.)
-
Oh, I noticed. A pleasant surprise. It's something I've been wanting and was perplexed why it wasn't already in the game. Weird how it was just randomly finally implemented, but it's definitely appreciated considering how much time I often spend recovering in matches.

Or you watch a streamer that is giving console players a fair chance, like Paulie or I read Streamdad too? I dunno bout that, but Paulie tried his best with giving console players the time to enter the code and a fair chance. Sadly most other streamers I watched didn't care too much.
I watched a couple streamers today who also posted the first part of the code and then waited a bit to post the last two characters. They didn't have many viewers but were still trying to give console players a fair chance, and that was like right after Paulie did his thing, so it's spreading and some of the streamers are trying.
Also, it was kind of amusing to watch Paulie take ten minutes to type the code in that first time.
-
They apparently want players to sit in the store and watch streamers rather than actually play the game.
-
The first Hallowed Blight event, players were originally only going to be able to earn 1 full outfit. After complaints from the community, they increased it to 2 outfits. Players were happy about that. This year, they decreased it to 0.
The old events weren't perfect, but I liked them. Especially the pustula plants. The lanterns weren't terrible, but I liked the plants and hooks better than competing for lanterns. The plants have never come back. Events were pretty much replaced by the Rift.
People were upset that the Rift was so grindy. The devs lessened the grind a tiny bit by adding more Tome challenges, and people were happy for that. Even if it wasn't enough, it was better than nothing. Guess what, since then the grind for the Tomes has been increasing.
Yes, give them credit where credit is due. Thank them when they do something good. Criticize when they do something that sucks.
I'm not thrilled about the PS4 framerate drop. Bugs happen, though, and they've acknowledged it and said they're working on it so that's something. However, this event and the charm codes and the Rift, those aren't mistakes or bugs, those are decisions, and players have every right to be furious that those decisions were made.
-
@hangm_nn said:
I honestly don't know why and I don't like the thought of this; this might be the new legacy, in a way. Only %00.1 of the community would have it and BHVR would have no excuse, like with legacy to say 'It was truly something that rewarded players for their work' or 'Only sign of 2016 beta players who put a lot of time into the game'
So eventually I'm guessing it should be free.
If not, BHVR is just slacking lately
The irony is that people can either play the game or they can try to get the charm. They can't do both. I've tried, and it's always given out while I'm mid-match because I can't control how the matches go.
The charm is limited time, while the game can still be played after the event is over. So... this seems like a really bad decision on BHVR's part.
-
It's going the same way for me. I've been as fast as I can be. I don't know if the stream is lagging for me or if PS4 is broken or if I'm just too old to be faster than the 14-year-olds who can type like madmen on PC. Really sucks, though.
-
It's a 32 character code. With dashes. And on console, with a keyboard plugged in, one mistype and I have to totally start over.
Ten minutes would've been a lot better. Or 1k or even 100 uses. But 10? That's not nice on their playerbase at all.
-
I really liked the 2018 Hallowed Blight event. I thought it was fun.
Last year I was disappointed, the Tome challenges and pumpkin gens/hooks didn't make up for the lack of awesome pustula plants, but at least we could earn the serum through the Rift. It wasn't perfect, it wasn't nearly as fun as the previous year, but at least there was a goal to work towards.
There's nothing this year. Nothing fun. No goal to work towards. It's just... empty. Absolutely empty.
-
Damn, sucks for the survivors in my matches. I like to play forever T1 Mikey. o_0
Seriously, this is a terrible challenge. I hated the hook-sabo-within-the-killer's-TR challenge and thought it was a pain as survivor, but this is way worse.
-
The framerate with this most recent patch sucks too much for me to do much of anything, really. But the event barely rewards any BP. Just burn a brown BP offering, they cost less in the Bloodweb (I think).
There's really no reason for anyone to play differently on either side right now. Not meaner, not nicer, and not farming. It's just business as usual with a couple of barely noticeable pumpkins thrown in.
-
Clown works, as well. Except when someone used a BP offering (I think one of the gateau offerings), then it glitched and only gave me like 16 points towards the challenge.
-

There's an event going on?
The so-called event is so lackluster, I wouldn't even notice it, if it wasn't so hyped before. The most disappointing part is that there's no way to unlock outfits by gameplay(other tha iri shards, so ni difference from any other skins).
Now, I buy every chapter, every rift and usually 1-2 cosmetics sets every update. It's not like I'm greedy and want a bunch of free skins. It's just something that makes you want to play the event. It's kinda satisfying that you fulfilled some objective and earned something, not just paid money.
Events are getting worse and worse honestly, the last good event was probably Lunar New Year event with lanterns and it was still not as good as Hallowed Blight.
Recently I really don't think like playing this game, thought the event will bring me back, but well, no event, so f me I guess.
This game is so ridiculously grindy, and the grind isn't rewarding. Earning a couple cosmetics during an event, that feels rewarding. And events that add a new mechanic to the game are fun. They have just completely dropped the ball this Halloween.
The Blight 2018 event is what brought me in to play DbD in the first place. Last year was disappointing. This year? What new players could this event possibly bring in? Who would start playing the game for this? No one. This event brings nothing to the game.

Not the mention the blighted generators and hooks give 1000 bloodpoints (which is absolutely nothing) and you have to bring pustula petals (which cost more to get) so your actually loosing out on bloodpoints.
Absolute stupid event, they should just revert everything and put ghastly gataeus back in the bloodweb. That would actually make people happy compared to this dissapointment of an event.
Except they shouldn't be gataeus, since those are for the anniversary. We could get creepy cupcakes or crimson candy or something, instead. Maybe pustula pumpkins.
But yeah, straight-up point offerings would be waaaay better than the current event offerings, which are absolute garbage.
-
Extremely disappointed. Not really much of an "event." Not only is there no event currency, but the old Halloween skins weren't even made available for Iridescent Shards like the new (non-licensed) ones are. This is also the most uninteresting, lackluster Rift they've had yet. The paid Rift track has nothing of value on it, except maybe Kate's outfit, but that isn't anything more than a simple recolor that should be available cheap from the store in the first place.
Halloween should be the biggest event in any horror-related game. Instead, Animal Crossing NH beats DbD by miles, and all they did was add pumpkins. That's sad, man.
-
I just earned 16 points towards the challenge during a match as Wraith. There's no score event that even rewards as few as 16 Bloodpoints, is there??
-
The lack of event currency this year really sucks. Last year, you could at least earn the serum and buy old Hallowed Blight cosmetics with it. This year, there's no serum to earn. The new cosmetics (except Ghostface, of course) can be bought with Shards, but the old Halloween cosmetics are still Auric Cell only. They're not even temporarily available with Shards during the event. There's no way to earn the old cosmetics this year.
This is also the least interesting, most lackluster Rift they've had yet. Halloween should be a big event in DbD, and yet this whole thing doesn't even feel good enough to be called an afterthought. This is pathetically bad.

The 2018 Halloween event was one of my favourites, quickly folllowed by the Summer event in the same year. People were just running around, getting their flowers, and then mess a bit with the killer, and do some gens. It was so chill, and everyone had fun.
Maybe I am just nostalgic, but I REALLY miss those times.
I enjoyed the event, too. I was so disappointed last year that it didn't come back. Hallowed Blight 2018 is what brought me in to play DbD in the first place.
-
I only remember a couple matches with hook suicides. Otherwise, people played pretty much normally.
-
If someone's sabo'ing hooks, there's a good chance I'll stop hooking and start slugging everyone from then on. I don't know what kind of toolbox the survivor has, I don't know if they're running the Sabo perk. I don't know how many survivors may be sabo'ing, if it's just one or multiple. And I don't feel like wasting my time carrying a survivor to a hook only to have it sabo'ed as I get there. I'd rather slug and move on to the next chase. I may not get the hook points, but I don't really care about that these days. Anyway, at some point I usually get bored with it and go afk so they can finish gens and leave.
A killer has to make decisions based on the info they have. You know you have a brown toolbox; the killer doesn't. If your sabo'ing denies the killer a couple hooks, that could cost them the game, especially if the survivor manages to get off their shoulder before the killer can drop them. A killer doesn't have to be angry to slug. They could've thought it was their best chance at winning. Or maybe they decided to play eye-for-an-eye: you cost them hook points, so they took away any chance at earning points for making hook saves. And you don't know how many sabo'ers they may have had in previous games; maybe they'd had a few and were just tired of it. In this game especially, if someone is playing in a less-than-fun manner, it's often not because of one particular player but because they've had multiple bad matches.
-
[BAD WORD]ing hell this is awful. It stutters like crazy whether I play survivor or killer.
Who can play like this? If console players want to complete the Rift, they'll have to load into matches and just stand there to earn XP. Playing normally much less trying to complete Tome challenges isn't possible with the game in this state.

No you're onto something here. This seems to be what all of my confirmations are leading to as well. People who have bought the last rift seem to be the ones receiving the cells.
I bought the Tome 4 Rift pass and I didn't receive any Auric Cells when I opened the store just a few minutes ago.
-
It's way too much of a pain to type on console. End-game chat would probably be PC players talking at console players more than anything; PC players would write a novel about how the match went while the console player is just trying to type "gg."
On a more personal note, I turned off messages on PS4 specifically because of DbD. End-game chat would just be another thing I'd have to disable.
-
I thought tea bagging meant "please Mr. Killer, don't chase me anymore, I'm no good at chases." I'm a nice person, so I give them what they want: I go back to patrolling gens. I leave that poor helpless survivor alone and don't chase them again.
I've had survivors disconnect because I refused to chase them. I also got messages (back when I left messages enabled) complaining that they were bored because I didn't chase them.
-
On the one hand, I want Haddonfield to be reworked because it is my least favorite map to play on right next to Ormond. On the other hand, it's really useful for getting me to put down my controller and take a break (and it's very important to take breaks while gaming, sitting too long is unhealthy), soooo... not sure which way I hope it goes, really.
-
Pretty much everything in this game is a bad time. There've been the bugs, the survivors who make me regret being nice to them, the multiple games in a row of being tunneled and camped (I love to see that it's a decked-out red rank killer against me and my pathetic yellow rank survivor ass with one tier 1 perk; thanks for the great matchmaking, game!)... and then there are the bad omen offerings: pretty much every game with a BPS in play is the worst match ever... but...
The worst thing is actually what happened to a friend (I'm really protective, so bad things that happen to him bother me more than what happens in my own matches). This was back in the day of pre-buff Freddy (and thus obviously pre-reworked Hex: Ruin). My friend was a bit interested in Freddy, so I was gonna teach him the basics. He didn't have a clue how Freddy worked, so I put on Ruin so he'd have a bit of time to actually play and try out Freddy before the survivors escaped, ya know.
Anyway, the match loads and Ruin is on the other side of the map. He walks over to it and gets there to see a survivor already cleansing it... she finished cleansing the totem while he was putting her to sleep. It was the worst introduction to Freddy he could've had, to just be completely impotent, forced to stand and watch as his only hope at not having the match end in three minutes went poof, trying to hit her and stop her and his hand just went right through her with no effect, and I felt soooo bad about it. I had failed him. Totally dispirited, it killed any enthusiasm he might've had for playing Freddy.
He didn't play that match, and he never did try to play pre-buff Freddy again.

If the event is gonna force me to play survivor--which I absolutely hate doing, playing survivor is the worst experience I have in any game ever--I want faster queue times; slow queue times only make the whole miserable experience worse. Make those survivors suffer so much they uninstall the game and never come back.

I had a match where I was playing add-on-less Wraith, walking around without even being cloaked because I didn't feel like using his power, and I found the first survivor (he basically walked right into me, even though I was uncloaked), chased him, he misplayed a pallet and then DC'd when I downed him.
Disconnected. Against a total M1 no-power killer. What is even the point of that? Does he really think he can find an easier killer to go against?
Killer queues being instant and survivor queues taking forever only made that incident seem all the more idiotic.

Uninstalling the game and leaving it uninstalled is the best thing you can do for your mental health. Seriously. I often go on breaks playing it; I haven't played for a couple weeks right now, and I always feel better when I'm not playing than when I am playing. At some point there's always a match or a few matches that are just... well, I'm not turning the game on again until there's an event or something.
With 4v1, the game needs a very specific balance to be fun for both sides, and it doesn't have that. It has perks for both survivors and killers that can punish the other side for playing well, which is a terrible feeling. Games should be fun, and that crap ain't fun. The game isn't rewarding enough that a 4k (as killer) or an escape (as survivor) makes up for a miserable match.

I've had survivors complain about slugging and tunneling when I was playing super nice (I slugged to punish bad saves, but I didn't re-hook them, which is far nicer than I get 99% of the time when I play survivor). I've seen comparisons before of how a match looks from a survivor's perspective vs the killer's perspective, and it can look like tunneling to a survivor when to the killer they're bouncing between all four survivors trying to juggle them. Survivors will think the killer is camping the hook because they can't see all the scratchmarks their teammates left around the hook that the killer is trying to track.
As survivor I've been facecamped and hit repeatedly on the hook, and my first thought is always, "It must be a rank 20." And I'm usually right. The game doesn't teach killers how to play, so they think, "I caught one, now I need to make sure this one dies before moving on to the next." It's the most intuitive way to play. And I've discovered that a lot of newbie killers think hitting survivors on the hook makes them die faster. They just don't know better. That's the game's fault, not theirs.
What the game needs isn't a rating system, it needs to teach killers optimal gameplay. It also wouldn't be a bad idea if after a match concludes survivors could rewatch the match from the killer's perspective.

I've done that, though usually I'm playing one side over the other due to queue times, so switching back and forth isn't ideal.
I mean, I usually play pretty nice in general. Back when I had messages turned on, I'd get messages during holiday and BP events thanking me for not playing like a total ass, because apparently I was like the one killer not going hardcore. Events are usually poorly balanced and harder on one side than the other, no reason to add to that frustration.
If as survivor the killer plays nice and doesn't get any kills, I'll often stay behind and die. It's stupid how few points that nets them (a survivor gets 5k for escaping but the killer only gets a few hundred for the survivor not escaping), but it's not about the BP.
I feel like a bully when I do those stun-the-killer or blind-the-killer Tome challenges. If escape isn't a requirement, I'll let the killer kill me. (It's sorta funny when I stand still, let them down and hook me, and then they dance around the hook hitting me repeatedly, but whatever helps them get it out of their system; better me than some innocent survivor who just had the misfortune of getting hooked after I pissed off the killer.) I hate those challenges; I usually end up pulling them off against some poor low-rank killer who's probably already having a bad day, but I have no control over matchmaking.

My problem isn't the motivation itself, just how people value it so highly that they stop having fun because of it. Efficiency is fine, but in a game where you take on the role of a vicious murderer who's purpose is to torture before a kill, I don't see why kills should be the only part that we as killers focus on.
And yes, I could have added more Survivor perks like Botany as healing helps slow downs and extends chases but I thought the point was made.
I would love it if they added in ways to torture survivors before killing them, but you can't set fire to them or chop off limbs or even take a moment to tear out an unnecessary organ. The game doesn't give killers much to do. Spine Chill doesn't let stealth killers have fun with jump scares. I can't even spend the whole match entertaining myself with the killer's power because the power either spends most of its time in cool down or the cool down just breaks the flow; either way, I often forget whatever killer I'm playing can do anything other than swing their weapon.
Sticking survivors on hooks is a really boring mechanic, an uninteresting animation made worse by that really loud annoying scream, but even more boring is a slugged survivor crawling around on the ground.
I look forward to the day when there is a game that lets me take on the role of a vicious murderer. Until then, I guess I'm playing DbD.

I'll often play nicer than I should as killer.
I'll also forget to use my power; I'll play as just an M1 killer even if I'm playing a 110 speed like Huntress or something.
I'm also very lazy. "The survivors are probably all working on that gen over there... Man, Clown is too outta shape to be walking all that way... it's like, twenty whole feet, his heart can't take that." I ignore any gens that require stairs to reach. Sometimes on Haddonfield (with all those stairs and fences and crap) there are only like two gens I'm willing to patrol and the rest I can't be bothered with. (Don't burn Haddonfield against me if you're trying to get that fall-from-a-height-during-a-chase challenge done; I don't go up stairs, not even for chases. That may include porch stairs depending on how winded I'm feeling.)
I don't know if it counts as a bad habit or not, but I don't look behind me often enough in a chase as survivor. I have a lot of trouble maneuvering the camera for that and it usually ends up with me running into obstacles and consequently getting immediately downed if I try.

As I said in previous comments, they can keep scratched mirror
Not everyone uses Scratched Mirror. That requires an add-on; getting through Bloodwebs and getting one specific desired add-on is expensive. I just like being in Tier 1, I don't need auras.
However, I do think it sucks how long it can take to get out of Tier 1. They should reduce the amount of stalking he needs to do to get out of it, and he should be immune to Spine Chill in Tier 1 so he can actually stalk survivors from afar being all spooky rather than being forced to try to stalk them from around obstacles like a big dork because the survivor ran to the nearest loop the moment Spine Chill proc'd.
