  • I just want the first three survivors to gtfo and the fourth survivor to wait until I've closed the hatch. But hey, whatever. They leave right away? Awesome, onto the next match. They stick around? Cool, I get to break pallets and walls while they waste their time because I dunno whatever it is they're doing over there braiding each other's hair or something.

But survivors should understand that very few of their brethren stick around to let the killer hit them, so a lot of killers aren't going to the exit gates, anymore.

  • Every once in a while I laugh at NOED. I'm more likely to laugh if I'm cleansing the totem as the last gen pops and then boom, hex explosion.

My favorite gut-buster in this game is when a survivor dies after the exit gates are open because they do something dumb instead of, you know, leaving. Whether I'm playing survivor or killer, I find that hilarious. (My favorite was a Dwight who was being kind of a dick while I was playing nice and just messing around a bit. At the end he's running towards the open exit and I guess as an extra bit of "eff you" he timed it so that me hitting him would propel him right through that gate to freedom at the last second... I didn't hit him, and he died to the EGC just a few steps away. Kids, don't assume that a nice killer is a stupid killer.)

  • If the killer drops me far away from the hatch, I usually refuse to crawl to it. I had one killer get really mad about that and hit me repeatedly on the hook as I died for not playing their little game. Made me laugh.

I also had one match where I think the Ghostface wanted to kill me even though he let me open the exit gate, 'cause he downed me after and then stood right next to the exit point, so I crawled away from the gate. He picked me up and carried me back over; the whole thing looked ridiculous. Anyway, I was able to wiggle off his shoulder, and I booked it right out of the exit at the last second. I got to the end screen and it showed the killer had disconnected. I never did know what to make of that, but it was pretty funny.

As killer, I don't believe in being a dick about it. Either I kill the last survivor immediately, or I let them go. However, it's becoming rare that I let the last survivor go; I've had some act toxic after I was nice to them and let them escape. So, unless I take pity on that survivor for how the match went I put them on a hook, no letting the last survivor go just because they make an offering after I find them.

Is it worth it to get maybe 4 pallets = 400 Points instand of talking the risk to get 4 Hits = 1200 Points?

Yes. When averaged out over multiple matches, I earn more by going to break doors and pallets than I do by going to the exit gates. That's how few survivors let me hit them, and because survivors stick around at the exit gates waiting for a killer who's never going to show up, I have enough time to break a whole lotta stuff. It's better to go for the guarantee over the gamble.

I'm sure the Killer would kill you If you give him the chance so... No. But the Killer also get Points for slaping me in the gates, so what's the problem with that? Just press M1!

But there's no guarantee the survivors will let the killer hit them. In fact, in the majority of cases the survivors don't let the killer hit them. Which is why so many killers no longer go to the exit gates, there's no point. Breaking pallets and walls are guaranteed points for the killer, so that's what the killer should do.

How is it debatable whether or not you should play a match that is unplayable?

I think it's fine to suicide if the lag is horrendous; I've seen other people say it's not. Hence, it's apparently "debatable."

Wait what? Why should I give the Killer free bbq stacks when the gates are open. And no I don't farm in this game

But wait, you just said you expect the killer to farm points with you by giving you free WGLF stacks. Which is it? Do you want to play for real, in which case escape is the priority, or do you want to play for points? I'm confused, because according to you, free points for you when you've already won are a requirement for good sportsmanship; helping the player who's going to end the match with very few points is a definite no, and even just being nice towards the player who got stomped comes with conditions. Which, I mean, that can't possibly be what you meant, otherwise you'd be a hugely sore winner and definitely not mature enough for a game that's rated M, and I'm sure neither of those describe you.

(Though, there's also a good reason to get hooked during the EGC. Two reasons, actually. Survivors not only get more points for EGC hook saves, but there's also a Tome Challenge right now requiring exactly that. The hook saves would even count for WGLF stacks. But hey, you do you and deprive the killer, your teammates, and even yourself of those extra points.)

  • I am sorry that after you and your team gave the killer free BBQ stacks he didn't return the favor and give you free WGLF stacks. That was quite thoughtless of him not to return the favor. Not all players know how to farm properly, though, so you should use that multi-platform chat function to inform players how to help the other side earn points.

If the Killer refuse to give me my last Stack(s) I Type ggez instand of ggwp >:(

That's kind of petty and selfish given that the killer had no idea you had WGLF and just wanted to be sure to make some points breaking pallets and stuff. The majority of the time, I go to the exit gates and the survivors refuse to let me do anything to get points, so all I did was waste time making that trip and lose a chance at getting points breaking walls and pallets.

Personally, I'm on PS4 with friend requests and messages turned off, so you'd be talking to yourself.

  • If a survivor suicides or DCs I usually just go afk for the rest of the match. I don't like playing 3v1: playing for real is unsatisfying, especially since the remaining survivors become more likely to DC or suicide, and farming is boring.

I'm a terrible Huntress and I've had survivors disconnect because I made a lucky hit and they were too impatient to find out just how much I suck. I once played as Wraith, running just Lightborn and I think Distressing with no offering and no add-ons. I didn't feel like using his power so I uncloaked as soon as the match loaded and never cloaked after. The first survivor I found went down when he misplayed a pallet... and he immediately disconnected. #########? Did he think he'd find an easier match than a totally M1 killer? I wasn't even using Wraith's power. The only way it could be easier is if I literally stood in a corner staring at a wall. But he disconnected.

There are only a few good reasons for suiciding/disconnecting. 1. The lag is so bad the match is unplayable (debatable). 2. A game-breaking glitch. 3. A teammate has trapped you in a corner and the killer isn't doing anything about it.

I've suicided due to lag and sandbagging teammates (especially if they farm me off the hook without BT, I'm not ruining my joints and hardware spamming X just so they can do it again). I only disconnect due to a glitch if the match literally refuses to end and I have no other choice. Personally, I will suicide if the majority of gens are left and the killer is mori'ing off the first hook, though I won't claim that wanting to move on is a fair or good reason for suiciding, but usually the killer will mori me in a place where the camera is obscured, so I don't feel like it's worth sticking around just so I can not see the death animation.

  • I got Deathgarden on Steam but DbD on PS4. No mask for me because reasons, I guess.

They really should just give it out to console players and be done with it. Deathgarden was given out for free at the end, so all Steam players could acquire it and thus the Meg mask without spending a dime.

  • I want the glowing Legion skins back. Also, I really liked the old glowing spooky medkit; the new one looks like garbage. What an absolute change for the worse for both the skins and the medkit.

In answer to the original question, I didn't play the event. Some pumpkins on generators and hooks isn't an event. I played Dying Light's Halloween event and Animal Crossing's Halloween event and DOAXVV's Halloween event... I logged in for the daily DbD bonuses and half-assed a couple matches here and there for the XP.

What If I want some Wglf stacks? You got min. 2 Hits and I got 2 Stacks. Win-Win

What if you do want WGLF stacks? That's not the killer's problem. I assume the survivors want something like "escape chase" points or a flashlight blind or WGLF stacks... and I don't care. There's a 1 in 3 chance what the survivor wants will also benefit me, so I'm going to play the odds. I'm going to break pallets, break walls, and on the rare nice occasions close the hatch. In that case, it's a guaranteed win for me as I get points; you get your time wasted.

  • I hate Haddonfield, and I've gotten very lazy about playing on it. I refuse to go in the houses or chase around fences. I'll patrol gens outside on the ground and that's it. When I get bored with that, I'll wait at the exit gate for the survivors to finish the last gens so I can get those sweet gate-opening Bloodpoints.

If a survivor burns for Haddonfield, I'll do even less than all that. Well, my killer character will do less. I'll do plenty (like getting snacks) while the survivors get to do their favorite things: working on gens and escaping. It's a win-win.

  • I have always gotten more crap from survivors. As a killer, I've gotten salty messages for killing them and "you suck" messages for not killing them. As a survivor, I've gotten messages telling me off for not throwing my life away to rescue them. Getting messages from survivors was a common occurrence.

I've gotten very, very few messages from killers. One was telling me I played well and we became friends. Another was bait which I just ignored. And the remaining couple were killers apologizing that I died when they weren't trying to kill me. That's it. Whether I play killer or survivor, it's survivors who send me messages.

I turned off messages and friend requests on PS4 solely because of DbD survivors.

  • Usually I go look for the hatch. I like closing the hatch. As Wraith, I've actually killed survivors that way. I've also had survivors try to do some last-second dumbassery and they misjudge how much time they have left and end up dying to the entity (just yesterday, one was desperate to flashlight blind me... I run Lightborn, and they totally died right at the exit). I've also had survivors die to the EGC because they were so preoccupied with making noise next to the gate that they didn't get out in time.

But in general I don't go to the exit gate because I just don't feel like it. Survivors used to let me hit them on the way out, but they stopped doing that a while back. Now they run out before I can get a hit in, so screw 'em.

Anyway, why do you want the killer to go to the exit gate?

  • The corrupt bile is fun as Plague but too many times I've seen survivors run through streams of vomit without getting infected/injured. It quickly becomes frustrating.

I have a lot of fun with Demogorgon's shred and there are no problems with latency/giant gaps in particle streams allowing survivors to dance through it unaffected

  • Yes, I have this sort of luck with BPS, too. It's why I stopped burning them.

One time, I got tunneled out so hard and so fast when burning one that I actually got a message (on PS4) from another survivor saying how much that sucked.

It's not just as survivor; I don't have good luck burning them as killer, either. I avoid the things in my bloodwebs and don't use the ones I have.

  • If survivors equip themselves with Prove Thyself, toolboxes, and BNPs, then they're coming in with the goal of rushing through gens and interacting as little as possible with the killer. I dunno why they do that, some players just find that fun. I guess someone has to find gen repair fun, eh.

Otherwise, gen rushing is a problem with the design of the game and is not the fault of the survivors. Survivors playing efficiently can rush through gens without trying, especially if the killer gets sucked into one chase and doesn't pressure gens. Players will blame the killer, "You need to pressure gens better!" but pressuring gens isn't intuitive and the killer only needs to make a small misstep at the very beginning of the game to cost him the whole match. There are four survivors and only one killer, and whenever a survivor isn't interacting with the killer they should be on a gen, so if you're in a chase with one survivor you have to expect the other three to be on gens. That's why things like "snowball potential" and "map pressure" are regarded so highly when discussing killers; without either of those two things, a killer is basically fighting the game mechanics.

  • WTH it's a survivor-only charm? That's really weird.

The Trap-o-lantern and Dwightcrow charms should both be universal, it makes no sense to have it this way.

@MadLordJack So it doesn't matter when we get screwed over when the killer wants to be sweaty. I've had killers actually dc AFTER we loaded in and we had 3 bps stacked (which would benefit him too) but he wanted to be petty and waste it all.

And if you had a stacked offering giving 100% bonus points to survivors only, killers would basically always DC on those.

    @TangledNoodles said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1716546#Comment_1716546

@Ace_Ventura You clearly didn't read what I said.

First of the killer will always make more points because they stay in the match the longest and literally everyone and their mother uses BBQ cause it actually has a decent use. WGLF doesn't compare, healing someone when they're slugged? ok lol.

Plus you're running to go get those safe unhooks that 2 other people can just deny you (unless you wanna get slapped taking a protection hit that will put you at a disadvantage just for a stack).

If we already have bound envelopes that is for everyone then why can't we have one like bps or at least 50%. When I stack bps with others it's because I want to make more points and not have to sweat for crazy saves and stuff, and have a chill game where I get a decent amount of points.

Yes, the Bound Envelopes offer a 25% bonus, so when stacked they provide at most a 100% bonus average per survivor. If all four survivors burn escape cakes, that's 100% per survivor. The devs are not going to create an offering that lets survivors get more than average of 100% bonus per survivor and leave the killer out. An offering like that would only increase the feelings of hostility between sides.

You're asking the devs to incorporate something that players would use to punish other players of the same game for choosing the opposing side. Devs are not going to punish players of their game just because they play killer.

That's been my day. Match after match of teabagging, flashlight and locker spamming, people immediately giving up on hook, multiple keys, multiple OOO players, sweaty play, and various levels of BM'ing. I used Ghastly Gauteau cakes in every match, and in almost every one, I regretted it, even after I still made a good amount of BP overall.

I run into the same frustration when I play survivor and throw cakes/BPS into the game and run into a super-sweaty killer -- so that's definitely a thing -- but as you correctly pointed out, it's not something exclusive to one side or another. Events seem to bring out the worst in players, sadlly, for whatever reason.

Oh god, BPS and Gateaus are such bad luck. I never burn those anymore, not as survivor and not as killer. I always have the worst games when I use them. Hell, someone else burning them is usually a bad sign, too. Sometimes as killer I try to farm when survivors burn them, but I've even had matches where I tried to be friendly just go horribly (someone DC'd and the three remaining survivors avoided me all match and keyed out as soon as possible, #########?!) so it's rarely worth the effort.

The number of BPS I've trashed when prestiging characters would make some players cry.

  • You're not the first person to suggest this, but the devs aren't going to implement something that would allow survivors to give themselves a 400% bonus and leave the killer out.

  • I think the hook is a boring mechanic in general. As killer, it's repetitive and not satisfying. As survivor, it's basically like being put in a time out during which you just... wait. Nothing interesting happens while you're on the hook. Possibly you spam a button, which is annoying, stressful on a person's joints, and bad for the gaming hardware. And even if you spam the button for the entire time, you may die just because no one felt like rescuing you. There's no guarantee the time you wasted on the hook will be rewarded with anything.

One of DbD's fundamental problems is that survivors spend most of their time doing nothing, whether they're on a hook or repairing a gen (which is for the most part just holding a button for 80 seconds multiple times in a match) or slugged on the ground. Woo.

Plus, like you were saying, camping the hook. It's boring for everyone. But it's possible the killer only knows where one survivor is, that one on the hook, and if they go patrol gens, well, it's a huge map, and their hooked survivor might be saved and healed before the killer even finds a gen being worked on much less another actual survivor. If the killer does stay to keep an eye on their bait, then the person on the hook is just bored as crap because they're in time out with a nanny waiting to bop anyone who comes near.

You can try to add things to the hook mechanic, but in the end it'll probably always come down to just being a possible 2-minute time-out for someone playing a game (Everyone's most fun thing ever, right? Being in time out?), and even if it's somehow made more interesting for survivors it'll still be one of the least interesting ways of killing someone ever put in a horror game. At least, that's how I feel about it.

So, you're not wrong, the hook needs a rework. I just think it needs a much bigger rework than we could come up with because it would require drastic changes to the gameplay.

Having mastered Nurse after weeks of misery, pain and suffering I recently had to take a break from dbd (one month) due to pc issues.

After only 30 days off from playing Nurse I came back to discover I was having . . . trouble . . . with her again.

    Frustrating.

If you don't keep at her it's easy to loose the knack.

I don't have this trouble with any other killer.

    Says a lot I think.

I had a similar problem! I put a lot of time (I mean multiple months) into getting better with her on PS4. Then, I had to go out of town for two weeks. Came back and boom, it felt almost like I was starting from scratch. I tried to regain my footing with her but it just killed my motivation and before long I dropped her completely.

It still makes me sad how much I'd improved and then lost just because I was away from the game for two weeks.

That’s expensive! Maybe you’re better off playing the free version on Xbox, I also heard it runs smoother on Xbox too.

I don't have an Xbox. Plus, I've already put a lot of hours into the game and own all the DLC on PS4. Unless cross-progression becomes a thing (not holding my breath), there will be no switching to a different platform. Either they make it work on PS4 or I stop playing. It's way too expensive to buy all that stuff twice, not to mention having to start over with the ridiculous grind.

Ok well it was a $1 for game pass so not fully free, I did see somewhere that’s it’s free on this weekend though. Not sure about PS4 as I don’t have one.

It depends, what version do you wanna get on PS4?

The Silent Hill Edition is normally $50 but right now is available for $35. Meanwhile, the Stranger Things edition is $40. There's a sale on the lowest-end version of the game at the moment, $12 (normally $30).

    Free it's not.

    https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP3509-CUSA08444_00-DBDSILHILEDITION

  • There was a thread about this just yesterday. To sum it up, there's no guarantee there will ever be cross-progression between PlayStation/Xbox and PC.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/201374/cross-progression-between-pc-and-consoles

  • Hey, the constant bugs and fps problems are making DbD less fun for console players, too, so take comfort in the fact that both sides are miserable.

  • It becomes really embarrassing when he points out DbD only has the one mode. I've pointed out before that I get more from other games, including free events, while their paid DLC is fewer in number and cheaper. Some of the main descriptions of DbD are "buggy," "too grindy," and "frustrating." None of those are what a video game should be known for, much less all three at once, and especially not with the large amount of monetization present.

  • If your friends really do like the gameplay, the best thing for them to do is buy the game on sale and then buy the DLCs they want when those go on sale. The game and DLCs go on sale pretty regularly. I waited until the Stranger Things DLC was half off before buying it.

However, this game isn't new-player friendly. The grind is atrocious, I'd personally be surprised if your friends stuck with the game for very long after purchasing it. That's nothing against them, it's just that in so many ways this game chases away new players.

  • Gosh, that would be nice.

Right now, the way BHVR's store works encourages an all-or-nothing approach to buying cosmetics. Considering a lot of people like to mix-and-match, it shouldn't punish players for doing so. The sale should work so that it encourages players who bought one or two pieces from a set to buy the third, increasing sales where otherwise they'd have none (the player's only buying it because it's cheap and completes the set, not because they really want it).

Having the store function in this manner discourages players from buying pieces of the set at full price. Meaning, players are encouraged to wait until a sale to purchase anything, because like you said one piece of the set during the sale costs more than the full outfit does.

    I actually learned the hard way to turn off messages and friend requests D;

Lol, but maybe I'll try that although I hope it won't turn into a disappointment party when I don't achieve the said goals I came up with.

Thanks so much for this idea <3

    Edit: typo

Hey man, don't be disappointed if you don't achieve your goals. It's all about improving, and failing is part of that. As you get better, you'll achieve the goals you set and you'll make new, more difficult goals which you won't achieve at first but will as you continue playing.

And yes, I've played a bunch of online games but it is specifically only because of DbD that I had to disable both messages and friend requests. Friendly rivalry is not a thing here, nor are understanding teammates who cut you some slack for being inexperienced at playing survivor.

Anyway, you're most welcome. I do hope this helps you. Playing killer helps you get better at playing survivor, too, so even if you continue to prefer survivor it's worth it to play both sides.

  • It is very possible that PS4 and Xbox will never be part of their cross-progression system. Whenever cross-progression comes up, they say it's something they'd like to do. So, there's no estimated date, not even a "soon." It's a wishlist item.

  • @Unicorn said:

I really want to be a Killer main, I just know I won’t be good at it. Every time I play Killer my anxiety rises and I do horribly.

So I guess you can say I’m a Survivor main because I feel much better having a team. My lack of skill won’t reflect so harshly on the performance of my team if I’m the only bad looper xD

I had that when I first started playing. Hell, sometimes I still get that anxiety depending on the match.

For me, it helped to make goals for myself. Hook every survivor once, manage to get 1 hit immediately after Blinking (not easy on PS4), stuff like that. Also, if I don't use any offerings or add-ons, I feel a lot less pressure. Turning off messages and friend requests (or closing chat) also helps relive some of that pressure.

  • I usually try to play both to some degree, but right now I'm only playing killer because the bad framerate on PS4 makes survivor unplayable, frames drop and I die, but as killer frames drop and so I can't chase survivors, I go afk, and at the end I still get the full match's worth of XP so it's fine.

You obviously have a comprehensive skill or two missing. It was not addressed and of it was in the countless responses that are nearly impossible to find then forgive me for not shifting through each and every one of them. I'm serious and others should be too when it comes to what we are considering the new standard for what is a reasonable price in general for a game and it's assets. The fact that pacified and is willing to waste money for low quality service is mind blowing to me. Yes the outfits are nice but where did we come to the conclusion that they're worth 11 dollars or more a piece? This is a good question for gaming in general now. I think it's robbery at a point and I'm actually saddened at the gamers that support it by buying into it. The game is amazing true, their sales practices are not.

Virtual cosmetics are absolutely not worth $11 a piece. I mean, I guess to some people they are, but really you buy cosmetics to support the future of the game. The more expensive the useless junk like cosmetics, the more you should be able to expect from the game in the future. You know, like fun events. Instead, I put a lot less money into DLC for other games (and that DLC has a lot more value, it's not just one new skin) and I get a lot more out of those games, including fun events. So, DbD is not living up to the implied promise made by its useless eye-candy prices.

And if that money is all going towards the cost of servers, then please go back to having killers host. The game has performed like absolute garbage ever since the servers went live.

As someone else suggested it would of been better if they did it so the event hook moves to a different one after Sabotage

Don't really need to sabotage event hooks. They're always so far away, the majority of survivors get off my shoulder before I get to one.

  • I've given up, man. The way it's gotten worse and worse on PS4... just, whatever. It's always been pretty bad, but now... I get into a chase, the frames drop so much that the survivor disappears, and then I get distracted by something shiny and go afk while survivors do gens and leave. And it's a win-win situation, I guess, so why mess with it: I play a video game that I can walk away from at any moment and it doesn't make a bit of difference to the match, and survivors get to do gens and escape just like they always want. It's the perfect arrangement.

Sorry, your ideas are nice, improving game health would be amazing, it just seems like the game is going in the opposite direction. Performance goes downhill. Maps look same-y. Hell, they punished the playerbase for asking for a positive change to Discordance by nerfing it. The combination of the game's increasing bugs and the way they try to retain the playerbase by adding to the grind rather than making it more fun or optimizing it to perform better has left me cynical.

I started playing dbd during the first Hallowed Blight event, so collecting the pus flowers was a huge part of my beginner's experience. It's super nostalgic for me and It makes me so sad seeing them make the Halloween even suck more and more each year :(

Same for me. The Hallowed Blight 2018 event is what brought me in to start playing DbD. No event they've had since has come close to it, and I regret sticking around because most of the year it just feels like I'm waiting for Halloween, but now twice Halloween has come and there's been nothing. If I'd known they were only going to do the event once, I would never have paid in. I stopped paying in around the time the Rift came out. A good Halloween event might get me excited for the game again, but this Halloween definitely convinces me to continue putting my money towards other games and not this one.

  • I hope you get more survivors to quit playing. I hate having to play survivor for challenges, survivor is the least fun in any game I've had ever, and waiting in a queue only makes miserable matches worse. Who wants to wait in a queue forever to have a bad time? If you make survivors miserable so they never come back, I'll finally have faster queues. Mmm, fast queues. I like the sound of that.

  • I managed to get one on PS4. It was ironic, because it was on the first day they were available, the streamer kept hiding the last two characters, hiding the last two characters, I was entering instantly and not getting it, and then she needed to go afk so she just posted a full code. It took me 26 seconds to enter that full code and submit it, and that was when I unlocked the charm. So, it's always possible. The most helpful thing is probably choosing a streamer with a low view count. The one I was watching usually had between 100 and 200 viewers.

  • I miss actual event mechanics. The pustula flower things were my favorite. The lanterns were interesting but every time an us vs them mechanic is added to the game it just makes the animosity between killers and survivors worse. I wouldn't mind seeing a mechanic where survivors and killers can help each other out but aren't required to (like one side can do something that actually benefits both them and the other side) and they can't completely screw each other over. (Like, for example, a killer could slash a pustula plant, get extra serum/points from it, and then the survivors also got extra serum/points from it. It's not required, but each side benefits.)

Anyway, yeah. A good event is one that introduces a new mechanic of some sort and also rewards players for playing during that time period. Anything less isn't really an event. Pumpkins on generators isn't an event, and giving away free stuff isn't an event.

They have all been given a high number of codes.

The fog whisperers would benefit console players greatly by instead of typing out ONE single, solitary code (minus the last 2 characters), they pre-type out 10 or 20 codes then enter them all onto the screen simultaneously... then enter the last 2 characters for each simultaneously.

Everyone would be aiming for whichever code they prefer. The possibility of PC players going for the same codes as other PC players would then be greater, providing more opportunity for console gamers to get their Dwight Crow.

Seems like a better option to try an give more console players success.

    ...at least worth the try.

One code at a time isn’t primarily benefiting any other than the PC players.

Vinc3ntvega does 5 codes at a time every hour and then at the end of his stream does a whole bunch, like 15 I think.

I'm going to make myself wildly unpopular with this opinion, but people buying the skins early has, in my opinion, nothing to do with 'wanting to support the game', and everything to do with simply wanting to buy a cool, good-looking skin. When I buy a skin, the thought 'let's support this company!' doesn't even cross my mind once. I just want that skin because I like it.

However, I strongly agree that refunds would have been the right thing to do here. The only reason I didn't buy any of the skins before the major discounts is because I simply didn't have the currency to do so. I truly feel bad for everyone who lost their money/shards here.

I don't think that opinion should make you unpopular. You're kind of right, most people don't think in the terms "I want to support this game so I'm going to buy this outfit." (Some do think that way, but most don't.) Things like virtual cosmetics are probably usually an impulse buy, but the people who repeatedly make those purchases in a game are loyal customers. As long as they're happy and enjoying the game, they probably don't think about it in terms of how their purchases benefit the game but how the purchases make them (the player) happy. Once someone is unhappy, though, then they're more likely to second guess their purchases and hold back because they don't want to support a game they're unhappy with.

In other words, loyal customers supporting the game aren't necessarily thinking about it in those terms because they're happily enjoying the product.

yes and they didn't think of the consequences for changing the pricing of the outfits people paid full price in auric cells or shards for which are not being refunded. This is what really upsets me more than anything, knowing i have to eat the loss on shard because they decided to change the prices to band-aid a problem.

They must've known the community would be upset and they'd have to make changes. They must have. There's no way anyone could be blindsided by the backlash considering the large amount of nothing this event brings to the table. If you look at what other real video games do for Halloween, what DbD is doing doesn't even register as an event. What DbD is doing is more like something you'd see in a mobile game like Love Nikki, which is absolutely unacceptable for a paid PC/console game.

But even if the devs only ever play dress-up-doll mobile games and have never seen any other video game ever, they had enough complaints in 2018 to go from one earnable cosmetic set to two earnable cosmetic sets, so there was no way players were going to celebrate pumpkin generators with zero earnable cosmetic sets and a batch of 21k-shards/auric-cell-only outfits. Everything about what's going on was absolutely foreseeable, no crystal ball or mind-reading powers required, so why was any of it allowed to happen?

The decisions they've made suggest they value the happiness of the people who are iffy about buying their product over the happiness of the loyal customers who purchased cosmetics on day one. It's a really poor stance to take, because their band-aid solution isn't changing the mindset of someone like me who already stopped enthusiastically jumping on the chance to pay into their game. However, going by the response from you and many other forum members, it is affecting you... negatively. There are a lot of loyal players (customers) who no longer feel that BHVR values their time and money.

It's not like this is the first time I've seen video games do something like this—rewarding the people who didn't buy their DLC right after its release, rewarding new players but not the long-time players—and each time it leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. Feeling unappreciated or betrayed is something people don't forget.

  • This is a thing? I had no idea this is a thing. This is definitely an issue that needs resolving. If I choose to appear offline on PS4, games should respect that.

While I do agree the "event" is poorly executed I feel like this needs to be said: complaining about being given FREE STUFF is a pretty entitled way to think and is really an extremely selfish mind set. Sure they gave more stuff before but they never had to give ANYTHING for free. That being said I am not saying that makes being greedy is okay either just that being upset about only getting one free thing instead of more free things is an extremely childish mind set. You are owed nothing, be grateful for the gift, if you get one at all.

Around holidays, game companies compete for players. They run events so that people will play their game rather than a competitor's. They offer rewards (like cosmetics) for playing their event. This is not generosity, it is business. DbD is a horror-related game, so they should have an absolutely amazing Halloween event, because this is their season.

No, BHVR does not have to have a good event, but that just means people will ditch and go play the games with good events. Dying Light's Halloween event hasn't even started yet, but I'm having a blast just earning Double XP right now. And where does my money go? Does it go into DbD's overpriced cosmetics for a game with no real Halloween event? Or do I buy DLC for the game I am playing? (By the way, the new rifle with the silencer in Dying Light is [BAD WORD]ing awesome.)

Events are important for player retention. Sure, DbD players could just say "okay, thanks" for what BHVR has put out but then just not play it because, come on, there are much much better Halloween events going on, and BHVR would have a lot of nice words but no one telling them why they're not seeing the rise in numbers you'd expect for a horror game at Halloween. Or, people can be vocal and tell them that their event isn't good enough so that, rather than just go play a different game, DbD will implement an event the players want to participate in.

Except they technically are giving you something as compensation which is more then generous. But you wont see that. You just see that its not enough. Sorry to burst your bubble, but they have gone above and beyond already. And there is a difference between speaking up and whining. Personally I applaud them for not doing what whiners want. Learn to speak up and not threaten, bully, or whine and you might find them more responsive

I never threatened, bullied, or whined. I know what the future holds, though, because this situation happened to me in a different game. You know what happened? I stopped buying stuff when it came out. If I ever bought anything, it was when it went on sale. But often, if someone doesn't buy something when it's initially released, the consumer loses the enthusiasm for it and never buys it at all. I mean, these are virtual outfits with no real world value; buying them is more of an impulse thing, and once that impulse passes, if the consumer didn't already buy it then the company loses out on a sale.

You're making assumptions about me, insulting me by calling me a whiner, and for some reason making this personal when it's not personal. I'm just talking business and psychology, here.

They also did not go "above and beyond." I played the 2018 Hallowed Blight event; I loved it. Last year's Halloween event was nowhere near what the 2018 event was, and the 2020 event even after this "generosity" of theirs is still worse than the 2019 event. Despite growing as a company and gaining a bigger fanbase and more profits, the quality of the Halloween event has gone downhill each year. That's not above and beyond. That feels more like someone testing the waters to see how little they can give their consumers while still maintaining said consumers.

You can be unhappy about it. You accepted the user agreements. That enters you into a binding contract to follow them. They are absolute by legal standards. You can't fight it. So yes. You can be unhappy. Can you complain like you are? No.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1705148#Comment_1705148

Arbitrary rules? No. Binding legal contract that you sign the moment you click accept. You accepted the contract and therefore by law, you are bound to it. If BHVR wants to, they could outright ignore you and not give you anything. But they were nice enough to give you something. Be happy about that.

If people never speak up when they're unhappy, nothing will ever change. People can absolutely speak out against it, they're consumers and this is a forum, the proper place for criticism.

Also, what you're advocating for is bad business practice. Just because BHVR can refuse to refund doesn't mean that's the smart thing for them to do, and it doesn't mean people have to be happy about it. BHVR is a company, so what you call "nice" people who understand business call "the bare minimum." Players say they're unhappy, players stop playing, so the company has to do something to try to keep people playing. That's not "nice," that's self-preservation; it's necessary for their continued existence.

These forums exist in part so that, rather than just not playing, people will come here and say what's wrong so BHVR can fix it before people stop playing. If people just came here and said "great job!" without ever saying what they don't like, the forums would be absolutely useless and the game would already be dead.

I didnt ask any questions. and If i did, it was rhetorical. I still think the "backlash" from players are just petty grievances. also I had to stop reading your post about your 1k hour on Left for dead 2 being worth 15 "dollars" imagine being proud of spending 1k hours for 15 dollars. my time is worth way more than that.

I'm getting nothing but constant framedrops that make playing the game nearly impossible on PS4. That's a petty grievance? I have put a lot of money into this game over the years, but update after update the performance has gotten worse. I've really been putting money into a game so I could play it less? That's what's happened. That's not okay.

Also, you apparently took their comment the opposite of how they meant it. They're saying they got more out of $15 with Left 4 Dead 2 than they got out of the much larger amount of money they've put into DbD.
