  • You mean the build? Beast of Prey, Distressing, BBQ, and a fourth perk of your choosing (I use Whispers).

Beast of Prey is better than Thrill of the Hunt because it gives the same boost to Hunter BP but can't be cleansed. Some people run both, but you really don't need to because Hunter is pretty easy to max out with just the 50% boost. I find a tracking perk to be the best use of the fourth perk slot, and Whispers is my favorite with Nurse's Calling a close second. Whispers is the only tracking perk that is always working to tell you if a survivor is nearby; other tracking perks give precise locations, but they require action on the survivor's part. Whispers keeps you from wasting time in dead areas of the map, which is really good.

I like using Spirit for earning BP, because phase walking alone earns Deviousness and if you get Grudge scoring events on top of that you can max out Deviousness very quickly. Any killer you find it easy to earn Deviousness points with works, though.

  • Oh, I know this is an issue with the Tome and not the Rift, but I hope it's cool to mention it, anyway:

Not being able to select separate challenges (one for survivor and one for killer, or the same challenge for both) is really frustrating. I actually had a chance to complete the "sacrifice 4 in the basement" challenge, but I had tried to play survivor before switching back to killer due to long queue times, and I forgot about switching back to the killer challenge. That was just.... agh.

It's also bad that players can't check to see what challenge they have selected mid-match the way you can see what offerings were burned. (They didn't fix that in the PTB, did they? I know they made some changes, but I don't remember if that was one of them.)

Trying to complete the challenges can be annoying enough. The poor UX when it comes to selecting challenges really needs to be fixed.

  • It's early for the Ruin nerf to be the cause of this. More likely it's dedicated servers messing with things, since those went live for PS4 yesterday.

  • I'd rather face Ruin than a killer who camps or tunnels. I'd rather face Ruin than die to NOED after cleansing four totems.

... I actually kinda like moris because the death animations are way more fun than the hook animations. But, I'll probably get bored with those if I start seeing them all the time, and that would suck, too.

  • It depends. I usually use both Beast of Prey and Distressing, but I'm gonna say Distressing simply because it gives a 100% boost whereas Beast of Prey is only 50%, and maxing out Hunter is usually easier than maxing out Deviousness.

  • Taking the game seriously is a surefire way to misery. Memeing and chilling as killer is the way to go.

I love memeing. And when I'm not memeing, I'm usually running a BP build with no add-ons, so if survivors rush through gens then at least I walk away with more profit than them because my BP build compensates for it.

  • Whatever it does, it needs to make working on gens more difficult. Encouraging survivors to stay on gens because otherwise the gen automatically starts regressing is the opposite of what killers need.

At the beginning of the game, survivors usually spawn on the other side of a map, and low mobility killers have to walk all the way across the map to reach the survivors before they become any sort of a threat and can start pressuring gens. It's during this time that killers can lose a lot of ground, so this is when Ruin needs to be doing something.

With current Ruin, no matter what survivors choose to do, they are slowed down. Even if they can hit every great, the gen speed is still slower than it would be without Ruin. This benefits killers who can't quickly get across a large map. With new Ruin, gens are only affected if the survivors stop working on them, which at the beginning of the game only benefits high mobility killers who don't really need Ruin, anyway.

And no, Corrupt Intervention does not take its place. Corrupt Intervention prevents survivors from working on the farthest gens for a limited amount of time, but it's on a timer, so survivors can just stealth around and wait it out, not forced to do anything. Non-trap killers don't benefit from two extra minutes of not finding survivors. Ruin isn't on a timer, so if survivors want to work on gens unimpeded they at least have to find the totem. With no timer, doing nothing isn't an option.

No matter how much new Ruin increases gen regression, it's not what killers need. I mean, skill checks mostly exist to make sure the survivor's not completely asleep at the wheel while doing gens. They're not really challenging, though. Ruin and maybe to a lesser extent Overcharge are the only things that make working on gens challenging right now. And even if a survivor is a god at hitting great skill checks, Ruin at least keeps them from getting the bonus progression for hitting them, which is something.

I slug with nurse, using Infectious Fright + Knoch Out + Nurse's calling + thanatophobia

Put pressure on gens, and that's what i do..... 90% of the time people DC xD

Nurse is one of the few killers who can easily pressure gens. One of the few who new Ruin will actually work well with, because new Ruin helps killers who can get survivors off gens. In other words, the killers who didn't need Ruin in the first place.

It's the killers who have trouble pressuring gens who use old Ruin, and new Ruin is useless on them because the whole reason they use it is that they have poor map pressure and struggle to get survivors off gens.

  • It's difficult between Steve and Ash, but in-game Ash isn't the best sculpt of Bruce Campbell while Steve is adorable, so... I guess I'll go with Steve.

  • Not for me. I like stealth killers, I get grabs, they worked most of the time. Then dedicated servers go live on console and suddenly grabs aren't working for me the way they had been before.

First of all, I never called him a dick. I told him that I wasn’t even mad (which isn’t really true but I wasn’t about to ######### at him while he was steaming. Second of all, I’m responding to somebody who asked why there wasn’t a “It doesn’t have to do with your team deserving it or not” option, and I am essentially asking whether they agree with me or with Scott. I am not bashing him at all; this situation has happened to me several times where the killer tells us they brought OP add-ons or a Mori because we all had toolboxes.

Sorry, I meant "you" in the general sense of one of the survivors, since one did say "dick move is bringing iri head" I was simply trying to point out that Scott didn't claim he wasn't a dick for what he did.

But, I mean, it's a game. You brought powerful stuff and so did he. It's only natural for a killer to see four toolboxes, which have the power to end the match very quickly, and so equip their own stuff that can also end the match quickly. Otherwise, the killer's just going in at a disadvantage.

I use this language because in his stream, after the 4K, Scott said that we were dicks for bringing toolboxes and that we deserved to lose to an Iri Head Huntress in the PTB.

You're leaving out the part where you called him a dick for bringing Iridescent Heads, and then he said something along the lines of, "Yeah, we're both dicks."

Grabs didnt work on perr to peer either so cant blame ded servers

I didn't have a problem with grabs, before. I mean, sure, every once in a while, because the game's never been perfect, but since dedicated servers most of my grabs have failed, and if I'm lucky they get injured, but more likely they do a full-health run to the nearest loop. That did not used to be the case.

  • Right now, as killer, I feel like I can't track for crap. After a few weeks of not playing I'm just completely out of practice. I've also never been good at dealing with loops. I've watched videos on how to handle the killer shack, and I always forget and feel like a fool if the survivor does anything other than immediately drop the god pallet.

As a survivor, I suck at chases. I suck at judging speed vs distance and things like that, so being able to tell if I can make it to a pallet... nuh-uh. I need to get better at thinking during a chase and recognizing opportunities to break LoS and juke the killer.

I watch videos of survivor gameplay and I see them get hit and then they get to a pallet and are able to keep the killer busy... whenever I get hit it seems like I get downed before I can make it to any pallet. The almost inevitable result of me getting hit is ending up on the ground a few seconds later. If I'm able to keep a killer busy in a chase, there's basically no question I'm up against a rank 18 or worse.

And of course when I'm killer it seems like the survivor road-runners halfway across the map when I hit them. -_- Feels bad, man.

It feels even worse when you cleanse all the Totems you see and they STILL end up getting NOED. This happened to me once against a Clown were I cleansed 4 (yes, four Dull Totems) and then got downed instantly. The reason I want the Totem Counter to also be added is to avoid situations like this.

It happens to me all the time that I'll cleanse 4 totems and then die to NOED. Frustrating as hell. I made a joke once that if a survivor cleanses 3+ totems and NOED still pops, then that survivor should stay untouched and the other survivors on the map should immediately be put in the dying state.

I mean, it's kinda a joke. I wouldn't be upset if it became reality, though. If I ran NOED as killer, I'd pause while hooking to tip my hat at the standing survivor as they strolled out the gate.

It's a PTB for testing things against the Doctor, who knew people would try using things against the doctor. and anyone that is taking PTB games seriously enough to be discouraged from playing any more needs a reality check.

again, trying to prevent people that work at bhvr using what they want is ridiculous.

I'm not trying to prevent them from playing what they want. I'm just saying how it comes off. BHVR is notoriously bad at PR ("Civ," "pretty good job so far," the way they worded the reasons for the Ruin nerf focusing on survivors).

And when I see four people who are part of a company doing something that could easily be interpreted as uncool towards a customer, I mean, the natural reaction is to wonder about the intentions and whether or not it reflects a larger attitude within the company. Again, that's just how it is when people are employees at any company. If BHVR were better with PR and didn't have a large number of killers asking "does our fun really matter to you?" then maybe seeing this wouldn't raise questions about the larger attitude within the company.

I dunno, I think I've derailed this thread, and I should probably stop 'cause we're not going to see eye to eye. And that's okay. This is just my opinion about how they so often come off wrong in the eyes of their playerbase. They need to get better at PR and communication in general. It's great that they're as active as they are within the community, it is, but there's undeniably room for improvement.

So bhvr employees should just run 0 perks, items & offerings so they don't accidentally win and make someone look bad?

I never said that, and I never would say that.

Look, when Ghostface came out, I didn't run around using OoO to ruin the fun of every GF I came across. I considered that to be a dick move. You can play the game and try to win without being a dick. Knowing what killer you're going up against and specifically trying to neuter them... if the game were meant to be played that way, survivors would be able to see killers in the lobby.

This has to be some of the embarrassing conversation about DBD I've ever had.

you're essentially saying BHVR employees can't play what they want because it may "look bad"? That is actually the most ridiculous thing I've ever had to read, they want to have fun, they are RANK TWENTY why is this even a conversation I'm partaking in.

Yea I'm sure your friend went "OMG THEY RAN PERKS THAT THEY LIKED? OOOOOOH MY GOSSH AND A 25% BNP? HOW DARE THEYYYYYYY! OMG THEY PICKED A MAP TOO? REEEEEEEE THEYRE BULLIES".

No, my friend didn't say that. He basically said, "That's not cool."

I'm not upset about this, and neither was he. It left a bad taste in my mouth, that's all. I'm not emotional about it or anything. I'm saying that from a business standpoint employees are always representatives, and they should think about the message they send with the things they do. That's all I'm saying.

Edit: Or maybe he said "That's not okay." I don't remember exactly. He's in business, he looks at everything from that point of view.

I honestly don't think they tried to ruin anybody's fun. Based on how they played, i'm going to assume they were just tryin to not get annihilated.

Eh, it's the targeted nature of the loadout. If it had just been the normal meta or meme builds or anything else, then it wouldn't have caught my eye.

Still, it's not like I can prove anything, and I'm not here calling for them to be fired or anything ridiculous like that. But appearances are everything, and my friend's first reaction when he saw the Monto video was disgust at the survivors' loadouts. He doesn't play that much, he's not on the forums, he's just a casual player who can't remember what half the perks do (so, basically, the kind of player DbD is trying to cater to).

    @Seanzu said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/983169#Comment_983169

Do you REALLY think they expected to get a killer anywhere close to rank 20? lmfao

They knew exactly what would happen, they'd probably get a high ranked killer (because PTB ignores ranking) and they know new players are very unlikely to just go into ptb to try out a killer they're bad with.

The fact is, this community is soft, someone runs a map offering "BULLYING" Someone runs a counter perk "BULLYING". You guys are so incredibly soft it's insane.

I wasn't referring to one map offering or to one perk; I was referring to all of it together. It's the combination that raises an eyebrow.

Like I say in my above reply to ggallinftw, my friend who's a casual player's gut reaction to the video wasn't even about them losing, it was about the builds they ran. Appearances are everything. You have a community that's divided with many very vocally upset about a much-used perk getting nerfed, and then you see employees with toolboxes and a BNP. It appears to some like rubbing salt in the wound. Considering how the reason for nerfing Ruin is "the survivors' fun," and killers are saying it appears the devs don't care about the killer's fun, this is the exact opposite of the message you want to send. That's just how it is.

In the live game, most SWF groups aren't going to go into a match with a build targeted to neuter one specific killer. A lot of players consider it bad form to run something like that on the PTB. Yes, some still do it, but it's still widely regarded as not a cool thing to do.

  • @Seanzu said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/983135#Comment_983135

Literally everyone on the ptb is running that kind of stuff, to assume the art devs should "play nice" because someone is testing the doctor is ridiculous, if no one ran these set ups no one would know if they make him criminally underpowered or something.

Do you think killer devs should let the last survivor go because if they kill everyone it'll be a miserable game for the survivors? No, you don't because killers aren't supposed to make the survivors life bliss, and the same goes for survivors, they aren't supposed to make it easy for killers.

They don't have to play nice, but it looks like an attempt at bullying some random player of the game that they help create. It really is different when you're employees of the company. There are different expectations. If they had bullied some rank 20 Doctor, it would've reflected badly on BHVR. Being employees means they're not normal players, no matter how skilled or unskilled they are. They are always representatives of the company.

And obviously unskilled players running a loadout like that against a killer player of unknown rank/skill proves nothing either way.

  • @Seanzu said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/983101#Comment_983101

I didn't look at the offering screen, my bad - either way, they're rank 20 survivors they clearly play next to nothing and just wanted to go through the maps and play a little, and then everyone here is trash talking them because it's just assumed they make balance decisions.

Ragging on them just 'cause they lost is unnecessary. I don't think everyone working at BHVR should be expected to be gods at the game. However, their loadout shows intent to make some poor Doctor player testing out the rework on the PTB miserable; they just happened to get Monto.

Seeing employees eager to ruin the fun of one of their customers makes me uncomfortable and worried about the general attitude of everyone else who works on the game.

Probably wanted to see how cool their map looks and plays even though they don't play much, then have the forum talk mad trash about how they played, it's a wonder why these guys don't play the game more, eh?

They burned a map offering for Red Forest. That's a few maps behind the new rework. Should've been Lery's, but even a Hawkins Lab offering would've been more understandable.

  • @johnmwarner said:

That’s what I thought too, I hate to throw around the word toxic but yeah...

Unless you can tell me that they regularly run calm spirit on their survivors...

Its almost like stream sniping and seeing the person is going be playing as Plague so you run all perks that work while you’re injured.

I mean, I'm not gonna call them toxic (and as other people are pointing out, it's not even confirmed they are devs), but those players went in with every intent to make their opponent miserable. You can't even call that testing, not when they burned an offering for Red Forest (rather than the newly reworked Lery's) as well as two Petrified Oak offerings. Two toolboxes, one with a BNP and an add-on for sabo'ing hooks, and two flashlights. They know they're probably going up against a Doc, and Doc is one of the killers who often used old Ruin to help in the early game due to difficulty applying pressure on large maps, and they double down on trying to exploit his weaknesses. That entire loadout is gross.

So yeah, whoever those players were, that wasn't cool. If they really were BHVR employees, that says something about the mindset of the people working there, and it's not positive.

  • It seems in poor taste to play with Calm Spirit, burn an offering for the largest maps, and bring toolboxes (one with a BNP) on a PTB with a Doc rework and Ruin nerf.

The fact that they lost seems kinda secondary to their intent to make the killer they went against miserable, which reflects poorly on BHVR.

  • Holy hell, that's amazing. I am happy about that.

Yeah, I was just watching Monto playing and immediately noticed it, and I was like, "Wait, I don't think mine looked like that when I played earlier..." A silent buff to the charm on the PTB lol.

  • No improvement as killer. Survivor felt noticeably worse.

  • I wish I had an idea of how many hours it took. I had to guess, and I think I low-balled it, which was probably the wrong way to go given how ungodly bad the grind was. Having to grind XP due to the fact that surprise, not everyone has all 70 days during which to play the game, was miserable and has led to rather severe burnout.

I would feel better about having completed the Rift if the vial charm looked better on hooks. It looks rather pathetic being nearly empty; it should be at least 3/4 full to look aesthetically pleasing.

  • I didn't use Ruin anyway, so the change doesn't affect me.

Dedicated servers came to console today, though, and I may quit the game if those stay live. Having grabs turn into healthy survivors just running to the closest loop... console killers already have a bad time with poor fps and frame drops, they didn't need this crap, too. And survivor doesn't feel good to play as, either.

  • He was testing out Huntress hitboxes, he said so. ;)

  • It's really funny to read "As a survivor player this perk feels like a breath of fresh air now" while talking about a killer perk. That is legit hilarious.

As survivor, Ruin was the only thing that made the mind-numblingly boring task of repairing gens challenging. Regular skill checks just make sure the survivor is only half-asleep at the wheel rather than fully asleep, gen repairing is a joke, and for something that is not entertaining at all to do it rewards very few points.

It's pretty silly that new Ruin benefits killers who can get survivors off gens, and those are the exact killers who didn't need Ruin anyway because they could get survivors off gens. This perk makes them stronger, not that they need it, and it makes the weaker killers even weaker by taking away the perk that gave them a bit of breathing room at the beginning of a match. Brilliant.

What I know is that when I play survivor I can look forward to bringing Small Game every match and then still dying to NOED because I only found four of the five totems, which is pretty up there as one of the most frustrating things about playing solo survivor. Ruin is much less frustrating, and because it's a teachable perk I don't even see Ruin that often when playing against low rank killers. I mean, if 80% of red rank killers use Ruin, and 45% of all killers use Ruin, then that means what, less than 20% of non-red rank killers use Ruin? Isn't that how it averages out, or am I doing the math wrong? If I'm right and it's less than 20%, how is that even an issue for inexperienced survivors? If inexperienced survivors are going up against Ruin a lot, then that shows a problem with matchmaking more than the perk, I'd think.

Dying to NOED multiple times in one night after cleansing 3+ totems is going to get me to turn the game off early a lot more than going against Ruin multiple times in one night, I know that one from past experience.

Ah, I see you are a man of culture as well.

Exactly! That's why I haven't been using Beast of Prey or Hex: Thrill of the Hunt - if they just buffed them to give 100% bp I wouldn't even have to use Freddy to farm BP with his Kid's Drawing add on. I don't think.

Ugh, I remember using Thrill of the Hunt back before I unlocked Beast of Prey... it was awful. Dull totems got cleansed so fast, and I'd have to choose between pressuring survivors or protecting the totem. It never netted me enough profit to justify using it: it just gave the survivors extra BP for cleansing it. -_-

I like using Spirit to farm BP, because with Distressing you can fill up Deviousness pretty quickly just by phase walking around, it's beautiful. If I remember correctly, I think you can also take advantage of phase walking to get "survivor found" points multiple times in quick succession, though that might be unreliable (I know, huge surprise, things like "chase," "survivor found," and "protection hit" events being unreliable).

2 escapes and 2 kills are balanced.14 minutes game not funny from survivor perspective. 5 or 6 minutes should be max

Whether I escape or die, matches that only last 5 or 6 minutes are never the fun ones: they were either too easy or we got slaughtered.

Not fun as killer, either, for the exact same reasons: either I slaughtered them and it was too easy or they rushed through gens and I barely saw them.

Ugh, what an awful thought, every match being that miserable.

  • @NullEXE said:

I'm more bothered that they keep nerfing my killer farming build for 100k bp a match. The build consisted with being able to hook all survivors twice, and max all other categories. With the combination of BBQ, Distressing and add ons. I was able to pull 100kbp a match and black pip while still letting the survivors all escape - which for some way even though I took the game hostage in a way, they always gave me compliments for saying they had a good time.

The first variation of the build was with Forever Freddy, with Kids Drawing + Swing Chains, Jump Rope, or Outdoor Rope. Distressing, BBQ, Thanatophobia, and Sloppy Butcher. Then the buffs to healing others, and nerfs to Forever Freddy came so I had to change the build.

The second variation of the build was Freddy, with Kids Drawing + No other add on. Distressing, BBQ, Ruin, and Pop Goes The Weasel.

Both Variations would use a BP increase offering.

Now they are nerfing Ruin, so I'll probably be moving to BBQ, Distressing, Surveilance, Ruin, or back to to the Thanatophobia/Sloppy combo. I have been testing Thana and Pop on the PTB, but so far haven't really found any build that gives positive results as of yet.

If you find a killer named Friendly Freddy, please give a coin to your witcher - o valley of plenty.

I stay in the super crap ranks and pull off about 29k BP base (before BBQ or any offerings) without killing by running Distressing, Beast of Prey, BBQ, and Whispers. Even in the crap ranks I resort to slugging to slow survivors down sometimes, though, which I feel bad about but I prefer Whispers over Ruin and I'm not giving up any of the BP-boosting perks.

I really wish they would add a 50% boost to Brutality to Beast of Prey, though. Distressing gets a 100% boost, why can't Beast of Prey at least get a combined 100%. Instead, they added the Undetectable status effect, which is nice I guess but reaching Bloodlust is usually considered a bad thing; I'd rather have gotten the BP boost to Brutality.

  • Old Ruin slowed down gen repair time at the beginning of the match. No matter what survivors did--hit greats, hit goods and power through it, look for the totem--it slowed down gens. If it managed to last a couple minutes before being cleansed, that was still a couple minutes of slower gen times, which considering how fast matches can go was a positive thing for killers.

New Ruin does not slow down gen repair speed: it only regresses gens when survivors stop working on them. It actually keeps survivors working on gens to avoid the penalty and provides no way to slow them down unless they stop, and the problem many killers had was that survivors were not stopping, not even to heal or to make hook rescues. So, new Ruin can actually make the problem old Ruin was there to address worse.

And it's still a hex perk, meaning if it lasts until late game it's only because the survivors are so unthreatened by it that they don't care enough to cleanse it.

  • Just play killer relaxed. Even if gens get done in five minutes and all four escape, don't worry about it. Even when playing solo survivor is frustrating, it's not a stressful race against time the way killer is. So, just refuse to put any more work into the match than a survivor has to. If the survivors prefer to rush through gens and escape in five minutes, if that's what they consider fun, then don't worry about it, just use those five minutes to have fun yourself and then move on to the next match. 'Cause you're right, trying to play killer in this environment isn't enjoyable, so ignore whatever it is the game expects of you and make your own rules; the game gives you the freedom to do so.

  • Not spending money is definitely the first step. However, forcing queue times to become longer by not playing puts added pressure on devs because it will cause others who would normally continue playing and putting money into the game to stop. Devs will have to either change the direction they're taking the game or finally program bots to fix the queue times.

By leaving the game you just hurt the community. That usually gets game developers to just start a new project instead of working on a failing one.

It's best to stick around and give feedback.

It gets better in time, with ups and downs

Take a look at Warframe or Battlefront 2.

I miss Battlefront II... Extraction was so much fun. :*( Nothing they've added since has been nearly as good, and they all but removed Extraction from the game. Between Battlefront II and DbD, I've come to see that online multiplayer games are not a good investment.

lol yeah, even when typing that I knew I was lucky I got a hit rather than just getting stuck in the grab animation or something, but damn I was really hoping for more time before console got stuck with this.

So when the unhooked survivor body blocks you because they have bt you won't notice it?

Hook saves during the end game are sooo good with BT. I save them, they body block and take the hit, we both escape out the exit gate. BT is one of the best perks in the game, especially once the exit gates are open. I actually feel bad sometimes because I've had killers just disconnect when they get cucked by it during the EGC.

  • First match, tried to grab someone off my totem. Started the grab animation and then turned into a hit.

I was dreading the day dedicated servers came to console, I really was. Despite all the problems on PC, I knew it was only a matter of time... -sigh-

Right now, I'm just letting survivors practice working through Ruin in my matches. I mean, dedicated servers break interaction between survivors and killers on both sides, so why subject them (or more importantly myself) to that? Killer queue times are strangely instant right now, which is unheard of at this time of day; usually they're not instant until the evenings when more people are playing.

  • Ruin was the only thing that made the stupidly mindless task of working on gens a challenge. I'd actually bother to work on gens with Ruin up. With no Ruin, it's just completely boring. I'll search chests, I'll cleanse totems, I'll make hook saves, and I'll almost certainly die, but without the challenge of Ruin then the other survivors can do gens 'cause it's not worth it for the small amount of BP and complete lack of entertainment they provide.

Then they should actually change hitboxes for each killer

They can't even fix hitboxes across the board; asking them to make each killer's range unique would break the game.

Also, the devs want things to be consistent across killers. That's why there's now the "Undetectable" status. The devs want more things to be the same, not different.

  • Thank god the one thing that made the mind-numblingly boring task of repairing gens somewhat difficult is getting nerfed. How can I zen out as a survivor if I'm having to stay alert to try to hit great skill checks?

Now, not only do I not have to worry about Ruin slowing me down, but New Ruin will spark if I stop working on a gen, reminding me that it's better to just leave my teammate on the hook for a little bit longer so I can complete this generator rather than stop working on it, especially since that teammate gets like 2 whole minutes on the hook and gens only take 80 seconds. Thanks, New Ruin! You're a pal.

  • BHVR has their money up to this point, but DbD is constantly releasing new content to buy. The red rank players are the ones who consistently continue to play the game, so they're the ones who consistently put in money. New money comes and goes; it's consistent, loyal customers who keep a brand alive. Brands that forget that and treat long-time customers as expendable fall.

  • ... but, if I don't ######### about a video game, then am I even really playing it?

Seriously, though, you know when I stopped posting on the Battlefront II forums voicing my displeasure at changes or the lack thereof? When I stopped playing the game. That's when I stopped caring whether or not it improved. I lost hope and gave up on it.

When I stop posting on the DbD forums voicing my opinion, it'll be because I no longer play the game and my money isn't going towards their product.

You know I'm not on the design team, right? It's not the nerf I would have chosen for ruin, but by the time BL got nerfed killer partisans should have seen the writing on the wall. Nothing is allowed to be strong anymore.

But two of the perks you listed are still strong. Balanced Landing might not be strong, but it's still good. It got nerfed because it created god-tier loops on some maps that killers couldn't counter. Many perks that have been nerfed on the survivor side were things killers couldn't counter. Most of those perks are still strong.

Ruin, however, is already easily countered. After this change, it's not only easily countered, it's also gutted and pretty much useless.

So, survivor stuff goes from "uncounterable" to just "strong" (and if multiplied by four, "really strong"). Meanwhile, Ruin is going from "strong" to "useless." The comparison is not equal.

there are plenty of good killers that play without ruin why can’t people just adapt to the change

There are also plenty of good survivors who can hit skill checks, why can't people just adapt to the way things are now?

One of the main things a survivor is required to do is hit skill checks. But apparently if new survivors struggle with skill checks, then just nerf skill checks. However, even though both new and experienced killers struggle with slowing down gens... "git gud, killers."

I'm on console with its crap fps, my reaction time isn't that great, and still I didn't find Ruin to be that big of a problem to go up against. Even if I was having an off day and never hit a single great, I could still power through it. Or, I could cleanse the totem. Ruin was the only thing that made the mind-numbingly boring task of sitting on a gen holding the trigger button at all difficult; I had to actually put forth effort and try. It provided a challenge to a mindless task.

I know what I can look forward to if this Ruin nerf goes through: I will be running Small Game every match to try to head off the near-guaranteed NOED. Yay, fun.

  • I don't like the look of the new Lery's. It's dark and drab, just totally visually uninteresting.

I don't like the Doc's new chase music.

I don't like Doc's rework. Cool downs are not fun. This trend of adding cool downs to killers is making killer less and less appealing to play as. I'd much rather continue to play Doc as he is now than as he is in the PTB. As a survivor who can hit skill checks, I don't really see there being much difference when versing him other than his lack of a Static Field being a huge plus: the cool down on the Static Burst makes it feel much less threatening. Oh, and I guess snapping out of it will be stupid easy, rather than just being pretty easy as it is right now.

The change to Ruin is a bad one. It no longer slows survivors down early in the game, which is what killers used it for, and nothing in the game's core mechanics was changed to fix this problem which Ruin was a band-aid for in the first place, so it's just a loss for killers and a win for survivors. Small Game will probably become a mandatory perk for me because I expect many killers to start running NOED in Ruin's place. Yay, fun.

I don't like that sounds are still broken.

I do like that Oni's nerf is getting reverted a bit, so at least there's that.

Im thinking about this game more and more and dont know if I should stay or better buy RDR2 and bury DBD. Im investing almost every evening to playing DBD, trying new builds (as killer), but I feel that this game is very survivor sided. Bad that I have bought all killers and unlocked almost all perks. If I know that game is developing this way I will not invest money. If there is refund option after these nerfes, BHVR will be refunding so much money and reconsider twice every "nerf" they do.

I was suggesting ideas how balance game and add more fun objectives here https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/suggestions but instead of reading opinions of killers players and moving game towards better experience for BOTH sides, BHVR is making only changes in survivors favor (or at least I see it as 85% of nerfs are against killers). i cannot believe my own eyes when I was reading developer notes. My friend sitting next to me (not player of DBD) read it as well and told that this patch is headed against killers. We are discussing about this game and we share opinion that killers are unfairly gutted by game developers.

Lets have a look on dev notes:

    Doc:

"He's been a polarizing figure since his release, and we felt it was time to revisit his kit with an eye to making it less frustrating to play against him."

"It's the lack of action needed on the part of The Doctor to find nearby Survivors that makes it feel annoying to play against."

"One last thing we've addressed is the frustration of using Snap Out Of It to drop from Madness level III to Madness level II."

    Ruin:

"We took a close look at the perk to identify what makes it so frustrating to play against."

As we see game is balance around survivors. Personaly I dont play Ruin so it will have no effect on me but still game is getting harder for killers. And must say that "balancing" game around 20 rank survivors is nonsense. Game should be balance around mid to high ranks, around players that knows basics of game. This is another great mistake that is BHVR doing. Killers are too "frustrated" and some survivor perks are annoying to play "against" and nothing is done.

My friend plays RDR2 / RDO and wishes he'd never bought it because he feels trapped into playing it after spending the money. RDO is riddled with problems: guns are constantly getting nerfed because "realism," the horse doesn't steer properly, the controls are crazy unresponsive. I tried it for a bit and I don't know how he can stand it, it feels like I'm trying to move the character through molasses. You get charged in-game money just for existing, basically. If your horse injures you, you get in trouble because the horse injured someone, even though that someone was you. The game wants you to hunt animals but animals rarely spawn on the map. It loses progress for missions. The game is a real mess.

I share your regret at investing money into DbD. Maybe you'll like RDR2 / RDO, but I just feel I should warn you it's been a pretty big disappointment for the people I know who play it.

  • It's awful. Just another reason to play Doctor on mute.

God, it'd be nice to be able to adjust music volume in this game. Such a standard feature in most video games that is annoyingly absent here.

  • I was going to give a poor Dwight that the players left slugged the hatch, but I couldn't find him on Sanctum of Wrath. He was on the ground for four straight minutes and bled out. I felt bad. :(

I can't track anyone via sound right now. I mean, I can basically never track using sound during a chase because of how unbalanced the audio is, but right now I can't find anyone via sound even when it's completely silent. It's ridiculous.
