  • You'll see this referred to as "hook tech."

The devs responded to one thread and said they're looking into fixing it, but it'll take time because it's more complicated than expected. Link: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1013795/#Comment_1013795

To combat "hook tech" for now, just don't try to hit the survivor hiding under the hook. Stand there and stare at them, and that's two people not doing gens.

  • There were a few weeks in 2019, I think it was in June but I'm not positive, where the chase music got lowered a lot and I was able to hear sounds and track survivors via audio...

Best time I ever had in the game. Only lasted a few weeks, though, and then chase music went back to being too loud, and sounds get broken constantly in new updates.

I really miss that audio balance. It's never been as good since.

I feel you. Did you see the patch notes? "Fixed an issue where the AI Meg (from the tutorial) could bleed out if not picked up"

    thank fučk for that

    lol indeed.

I run Distressing on Spirit for the BP, but it had a nice bonus of making it a little easier to surprise nearby survivors due to the increased TR... yeah, this bug kills that. I like using her power for the jump scares rather than during a chase, so I've barely been playing her. Even brown ranks can consistently avoid her when she's broken like this.

But of course Jake's the last one.

I found out yesterday I'd unlocked the Jake face...

He's actually the first one I've unlocked. I still have the other three to get. lol

    DS got changed.

It's not listed in the patch notes, so I'd assume that means it's a bug.

  • Happy No Ruin Day!

Tonight, I think I'm gonna walk around the maps as Clown throwing bottles into the trees. The gas clouds look soooo cool doing that. Hopefully survivors don't do gens so fast I can't get any good screencraps... getting the positioning just right can take time. But whatever, I just want to make sure I don't get in the way of survivors gen rushing, because I'd feel bad if I ruined their fun. :(

i did post a steam charts

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/410/VOOVJO2NTG8Y.png

look. i never claimed the game is gonna die. i just said that the player base is not realy growing since release of the game. it always drops back to 20k because the devs fail to keep the new players. i give the fault to the realy bad match making the ultra long q on low ranks and many bad design choises even though they balance the game around rank 15s.

Sitting in brown ranks as survivor on PS4, it takes forever to get a match. I don't see how they can expect to get new survivor players when new survivors barely get a to play.

Then I go against rank 20 killers who either get stomped or who don't even bother to try to kill anyone, presenting little to no challenge... playing lobby simulator just to sit on gens, hold down a button for a little while, and then leave isn't really much of a game.

The problem is, you can still hear the phasewalk inside her terror radius, so you still cant fake.

That's still around, but Legion being able to regular-hit someone when blind during Feral Frenzy was already fixed. -_- The Legion one took a specific set of circumstances, while the Spirit one affects her constantly.

Sorry if I'm being ridiculous, I'm just annoyed 'cause I like playing Spirit but this bug should've been fixed immediately. I don't agree with which problems are prioritized in this game, sometimes.

  • Old Ruin got survivors off gens or at least slowed them down if they stayed on.

New Ruin keeps survivors on gens and does nothing to slow their progress.

...can't imagine why killers don't think New Ruin is a good replacement...

  • A couple days ago my laptop installed a new NVIDIA driver, and it actually caused the computer to stop seeing the graphics card at all... FPS in games dropped to like 15. I fixed it by using a Windows restore point to before the new driver was installed, and I told Windows to ignore that update in the future.

Not saying that's your problem... just saying, I recently had a problem with FPS and an updated driver turned out to be causing the issue for me...

  • How would I feel if DbD ended?

Relieved. Upset about the money I'd spent, a bit sad that I can no longer pull up Ash and hear his one liners and dress him up in different outfits like a doll, but still... relieved.

  • Put on Beast of Prey, chase survivors and kick gens without doing anything else. Easy BP, easy de-pip.

  • @Zenro said:

How do I combat this other than look everywhere? This has been happening to me lately as killer. I get 2 people dead and then the last 2 just hide and i patrol the gens and they dont work on anything so i have to look in every corner of the map and inspect lockers. Almost always find them together hiding in the corner of the map. This has dragged on games for 10 minutes or so if they hide well. Super boring to go against. How do I combat this? I know i could use whispers but that's all i can come up with. Does anyone else experience this as well?

I have, and your only other options besides searching every corner of the map are Whispers or go afk until they get so tired of waiting they have to either DC or work on a gen.

Make sure to report them for holding the game hostage.

  • Oh man, I loved using Iron Grasp when I first started. I thought the wiggling was so annoying. Took me a while to get used to playing without it.

When I first started playing, one dumb thing I would do was equip NOED on Leatherface (because I wanted BBQ but couldn't chainsaw for crap) to try to make sure I was able to use all of the event hooks (Hallowed Blight 2018, that's what brought me to DbD). Yeah, I was so bad I needed that safety net. I also tried to play nice and would back off when I saw survivors on the flowers, but they rarely returned the favor and let me get the event hook... it made me sad. :*( Ah, I was so naive.

Also, for a long time I didn't understand how survivors knew to get off gens playing against Spirit. I couldn't really hear the whoosh sound through my TV speakers. Which leads into another stupid thing... for a good while I played without headphones. Holy crap, I didn't realize the difference it would make. Found out I wasn't even able to hear the Terror Radius well through the speakers. What a discovery that was.

  • Went up against a Hag today on PS4... Ruin stayed up the entire match... we all did the gens just fine. I didn't even see any gen tapping, and the entire match was all grey and brown ranks.

It wasn't even annoying to work through. This nerf is just killing the only thing that made working on gens a challenge rather than something that can be sleepwalked through.

I can easily say that going against Ruin is so preferable to being tunneled and camped and slugged. It's not like killers don't do that already, but I'm saying I'd rather have Ruin stay as it is than go up against more killers playing that way.

  • Solo survivor here, checking in to say... A. I'm terrible at surviving, so if I have a challenge to do and the chance to escape, then I'm leaving. I may waver a bit and even hover at the exit gate until the killer chases me out, but I've ditched hooked survivors to complete achievements in the past.

The exception to this is if the other random survivors I was playing with were nice and had saved me a bunch or something. Then, yeah, I might do B. But it depends on the other survivors, 'cause I'm not losing out on my challenge for some unknowns I never even saw all match.

If I'm playing with friends... I dunno. I haven't done that in many months.

  • Dying Light. I need to get back to earning the platinum trophy in Catherine. And there's DOA6.

I'm playing DOAXVV, but I'm always playing that, even while I'm playing DbD, because DbD is on PS4 and DOAXVV is on my laptop.

I actually love when killer brings Mori. Love the animation.

Ohmigod, usually I'm the only one I ever see say this! Yay! Someone else besides me likes dying horribly. :)

  • The powerful offerings should just be hidden completely. If a hidden offering is in play, the opposing side should have no idea. Moris shouldn't be shown, hands on either side don't need to be shown. The shrouds are pretty pointless, survivors start all together half the time without burning anything, and really the killer one should be to start all survivors together, not separated.

  • I really like Dying Light. I just play the single player mode, but there's also multi-player. You can play with friends or you can play as a super-powered zombie. The game's not new, so maybe you've already played it, but I still like recommending it every chance I get because I just have a ton of fun with it, and they've had a bunch of events since I started playing this past October.

  • Actually, the game keeps deranking me due to each month's rank reset... and then I never pip because I rarely kill anyone. I didn't put myself back to rank 19; that's on the game.

Also, even at rank 19 I'm getting green-rank survivors, so I'm not sure it matters what my killer rank is. I do feel bad that when I do my survivor daily, at rank 16 I'm going up against actual rank 20 killers: brand new killers don't deserve even semi-experienced survivors, but that's what they're getting.

  • Forget about an offline mode, they might need bots just to fix these queue times.

  • Most of the community seems to agree that once the last gen has popped, camping and tunneling isn't just okay, it's about the only play left to a killer. I mean, what're you supposed to do? You could "be nice" and let them go, but did any of them give you a free hook as a nicety? If they gave you a free hook, I could see their annoyance, but even then, I've given killers free hooks and never messaged them after because they still killed me.

  • BHVR wants the game to be fun for new survivors, so they change Ruin.

But new survivors are hardly playing the game because they can't actually find a match.

New killers keep being put up against higher-ranking survivors. They're getting quick matches, but many of them aren't having any fun.

Some higher-ranking survivors aren't having fun because they're seeing long queue times and then being put up against low-ranking killers who present no challenge.

... Jeez, that's a lot of people who are getting screwed by long queue times and poor matchmaking. Hell, I just played against two killers who I don't think were actually trying to kill anyone, so... wee?

  • Doesn't Identity V have bots? Maybe BHVR can borrow those.

  • Yes, sometimes I'll hear phantom Huntress humming or phantom Freddy lullaby.

  • I still think solo survivor is a worse experience than killer, which is why I'm happy that killer queues are so fast right now on PS4. I do my one stupid survivor daily, someone disconnects as soon as the map finishes loading in, the killer camps the first survivor and then me, hitting me on the hook the whole time, and then sends a "gg" message after the game ends. Like, really? You need to mine for salt that bad that when I don't send you a message, you send me one to try to get a reaction?

Like, dude, if I actually wanted to play survivor, that might get to me, but... what a waste of your time. If he hadn't camped the hook I probably would've just suicided to get out of that 3v1, but if he's gonna stay at the hook then I'm gonna be annoying and stick around.

Personally, I kinda hope killers keep playing like that while survivors keep getting killers nerfed, that way everyone will stop playing and those of us who can't seem to break away will finally be set free. (that's sarcasm... mostly.)

Ok so I’m rewatching the video and everything sounds normal so I’m extremely confused because when I was playing the game the sounds were all over the place. For example I would hear a gen next to a haybale loop while it was over at whatever other loop. When chasing survivors I would hear them right next to me while they were farther away.

Sounds seem messed up to me all the time while playing on PS4.

  • Yup, I've been getting fast matches as killer on PS4 at all times of day (which didn't used to be the case, it used to only be in the evening) ever since dedicated servers went live. Not that I'm playing much, because I'm burned out and the next rift isn't live, yet, but when I do play I get killer matches fast. Meanwhile, the survivor queues are always longer than killer. Sometimes it's only a few minutes, sometimes it's way longer, but it's never as fast as my killer queues anymore.

  • I said "gg ez" once, and it was to a survivor who messaged me being salty because I was memeing as killer, so I said "gg ez XP" and triggered the crap out of them.

I never message anyone after a match, I've tried a couple times to say thank you, but each time those players had messages blocked, so since it's such a bother on PS4 I don't even try.

Even if I did send messages, it would never be a "gg ez." I play killer a lot, I know what it's like to have a bad game, there is no reason to be a dick about it. If the killer is obviously new, not camping, and I didn't find a nice rainbow map I'd like to escape with, then I may gift them a kill. Especially if I wasted a lot of their time in a chase (which is how I know they're new, because damn, I'm bad at chases).

I don't. I'm advising survivors not to use it if you don't want to f*ck up your team.

This is why so many people advocate for separate modes for casual and ranked play, but that's always shot down with there not being enough players to support more than one mode. Because of that, people who just want to have fun and people who take it seriously will continue to be put together, and you can't really fault either one for their choice of how to play. The devs advocate this being a casual game over a competitive one, so if anything they support playing for fun over playing to win.

  • @Stitch7833 said:

Longer que times will be due to these

    • people who refuse to play killer
    • people who are waiting for the new tome (me)
    • Killer is harder to pip (even though i wish you could 2pip)
    • SWF, all it takes its 1 red mixed with purple and theyre using up red rank killers etc.
    • Lack of players overall in different time zones
    • Players that de-rank just before reset (always longer waits after reset for 1-2weeks)
    • There was also a poll somewhere that showed 80% prefer survivor, which is split right to 4:1 but when factoring in all the other points is why it causes issues.

    ^ This.

There's no reason to think long queue times are only caused by one thing. Any one thing probably wouldn't lead to that noticeable of an effect. It's much more likely a combination of things that's making it so bad.

  • PS4 Pro. Not sure exactly what server, but I'm in Texas.

  • I think a lot of survivors feel that gens are boring and they'd rather meme and have fun than squat at a gen holding down M1. Getting MoM to proc is a challenge in itself.

In other words, the survivors you're talking about probably realize what they're doing is stupid. They don't care about escaping; they're just having fun. Not everyone takes the game seriously.

  • I was never looking forward to dedicated servers making it to console...

There have been matches as killer where I could tell the survivors were getting screwed hard by the servers. Even if I were playing for real, I think I'd have felt bad for them and pulled back.

However, every time it stops my grab mid-animation and the survivor runs off unharmed I find myself reconsidering my life choices.

  • @thesuicidefox said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1007844#Comment_1007844

It happened 3 games in a row out of maybe 8 total. I'd say it's a pretty common thing.

"A rank 20 killer getting infinitely looped, pallet stunned, and blinded with flashlights is an equally bad new player experience."

This isn't going to happen if the survivors are legit rank 20's though. This only happens if people smurf like us but are toxic, or if MM screws them over which is a different issue altogether.

Also it's WAY easier to rank up fast as killer at low ranks. For survivor you basically have to do everything by yourself. You're not going to double pip if everyone does a gen. If the killer camps or tunnels you are likely not going to pip. If you get camped or tunneled you are DEFINITELY not going to pip. As killer I basically go out of my way to NOT TRY and still pip quite easily. If I actually went and killed everyone I could double pip pretty much every game up to maybe rank 10 when I start to get good survivors.

The Bubba had BBQ 1 or 2, and NOED 1. That was it. He was indeed a new player.

I wasn't talking about easiness or difficulty; I was saying that, because the game doesn't provide guidance for new killers, they're often going to play in a way that sucks for survivors because they're going to try to complete their objective ("kill") in the most intuitive manner, i.e. tunneling and camping. Pressuring gens isn't intuitive. So, survivors in the low ranks have a bad time because the killers don't play in a manner that's fun for them. When those same killers rank up, they stop having fun because their strategy of camping and tunneling is easily countered by survivors who know to pump out gens.

It wasn't about how easy or difficult the roles may be, just how the lack of guidance leads to a killer playstyle that negatively affects the players on both sides.

  • I think we should go back to old Freddy so I can meme, again. No Power Freddy isn't what it used to be.

  • Right now, PlayStation has a thing that lets you view your hours in your top games for 2019.

    https://www.playstation.com/en-us/campaigns/2019/wrap-up/

For me, under "top games" it says 1419 hours and at the bottom of the page under "Your top game played online with PS Plus" it says 780 hours. I don't know why those two numbers are different or what it means. Maybe the large number is total hours ever and the small number just refers to hours played in 2019? But that would be weird because I only started playing DbD at all in October 2018.

  • The game doesn't help teach killers how to play. It throws them into the deep end against four survivors and is like, "Here, your objective is to kill them." Okay... any help with strategies? No? Well, the most intuitive thing to do is grab one survivor, make sure they die, and then move on to the next one.

The game has no structure and no helpful tutorial, so there's nothing to guide killers to play in an optimal manner and/or play in a way that's fun for survivors.

This lack of any guidance for new players negatively impacts everyone.

  • I'll say "Yeah, that was ambitious" when I go for a long-shot hit and don't make it (like at a window or pallet).

"That's enough of that" when I hit a survivor who's trying to 360.

"Don't touch my [BAD WORD]" when I hit them off a totem.

"Really?" when I know a survivor is in a locker or when I pull one out of a locker due to a lucky guess.

Pretty much everything I say when playing survivor is along the lines of "We're gonna die." Unless I escape, then it's more like, "Holy [BAD WORD], how did that happen?"

I talk a lot during matches, really.

  • @NoShinyPony said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1005107#Comment_1005107

I'm afraid it's too late for that. Low-skilled survivors are now used to being red ranks. If the devs would want to take that away from them, the outcry would be big.

I also think this is intended. You make players feel good by leading them to believe they are very good at the game, in hopes that these people will play the game even more.

It's like with some brands that put a size M on their clothes instead of a truthful size L, just to make their customers feel better.

Ugh, you're right. You're totally right.

I hope BHVR is hiring A.I. developers, because mixing players of all skill levels together doesn't work in a 1v4 game. Without proper ranks and matchmaking, one side is either dominating or getting dominated. Neither of those things is fun except maybe for SWF who are chatting about Netflix series while repairing gens.

A.I. killers are the future. Possibly even bot survivors to fill the gaps in SWF groups.

  • I'm curious if there will be an increase in the number of killers who "play for fun" or farm. If that happens, will survivor players be happy or bored? An opponent who's not trying to win isn't going to present the same kind of challenge as one who is trying to win.

  • @Sylorknag said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1005107#Comment_1005107

Did they admitted having that idea? If so, holy crp that's a dirty move, even for them.

About what you said, I completely agree with you, there are literally rank 15 skill lvl survivors at the red ranks.

    It's bonkers atm.

I remember seeing someone post a screenshot of one of the mods saying they decided against the idea (from a conversation, not a thread post, so it wasn't "official"), but I myself do not have the screenshot nor do I remember what thread it was posted under (or if that thread still exists), meaning it's just hearsay being relayed by me, a third-party random poster on the forums.

Yeah, it's ridiculous how ranks are so borked that low-skill survivors are making it to red ranks.

And even if ranks were meaningful, matchmaking is still so totally broken right now that many people are finding a rainbow of numbers on their end game screens. Low-rank killers going against high-rank survivors. Even working correctly, the +6/-6 range is too much; a rank 16 survivor shouldn't be put against a rank 20 killer. It really feels like colors should mean something, and having matchmaking being restricted to one color (not including the mess that is SWF) seems reasonable in terms of skill level... queue times are a different story, though.

Identity V has a queue system that tells someone if there are too many players playing one side, giving them the option to switch sides for a faster lobby. Seems like it'd be a great addition to DbD. Knowing which side is faster without having to test the waters by sitting and waiting in the queue would improve player experience.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

Sorta. People tend to forget that there's also a console playerbase and on console the Hag comes with the game. I wouldn't doubt that Ruin being used in low ranks is more than likely happening on Xbox/PS4 more than on Steam.

But also, most people who are gonna get into the game might already know about Ruin if they've watched Youtube videos or Twitch streams.

I sit in ranks 20-13 on PS4, and I don't see Ruin often at all. It still requires either unlocking the teachable on Hag and then leveling up the other killers and getting good RNG, or buying it on the Shrine (where it appeared, what, twice last year?) and again, leveling up the other killers and getting good RNG.

  • Matchmaking and ranking/pipping should be the first thing fixed in this game before any other balance issues are touched.

How can you balance a game when both experienced and inexperienced players are thrust together?

How can you balance a game when the ranking system allows mediocre survivors to reach red ranks? Experienced players in red ranks are finding that many of their teammates are bad at basic game mechanics.

This is a problem. It's damn near impossible to properly balance a game when you have experienced players stomping inexperienced players due to broken matchmaking and a ranking system that doesn't rank players in a meaningful manner.

(Also, the devs said they decided not to go through with removing ranks from the end game screen. Ranks were still visible on the end game screen in the PTB, so it seems they did scrap that idea... at least for now.)

I got reported for doing this because i wouldn't chase them like a robot around the safe loops.

Players will report each other for anything in this game. You didn't actually get banned, did you? Because I don't follow survivors from one loop to another; I'll find someone in a weaker position to target. Some survivors have complained I didn't chase them (i.e. let them bait me), and others have told me I did well (I used an inexperienced survivor to quickly eat through all the pallets before going back after the more experienced one).

I'll say it over and over again: running in circles around knee-high debris isn't fun. Looping is boring. It's a video game; if I'm gonna play, I'm gonna have fun.

  • As a survivor, I kinda liked the extra challenge Ruin provided. Without it, doing gens is boring as crap.

As killer, I rarely used it. I don't like hexes because of how fragile they are. So, because of that, new Ruin is just as useless to me as old Ruin. There's one build where I use Ruin, and I will miss it for that purpose. New Ruin doesn't take the place of old Ruin at all.

1 … 106 107 108 109 110 … 139
