The game is set up so that survivors control the game. The killer is mostly reactionary, and survivors have a much higher skill ceiling and more tools to play with than most killers do. SWF intensifies the issue. Good survivors = survivors win, regardless of killer skill level. Bad survivors = killer wins even if he's even worse than the survivors. This is because the killer is largely reactionary and has no agency. This means that survivors are overpowered when they're good and killers are overpowered when they're not good, regardless of killer skill level. No amount of nerfs to survivors are ever going to change this. It will just make less skilled survivors die even faster. I don't think the devs can fix the balance issues because the problems are fundamental. It's literally impossible for anything but a Nurse to beat a good SWF team.

SB didn't nullify any abilities, it was used as a counter to ambush style attacks. Did it always work? No it didn't, but because it works some of the time it has to be nerfed because Killers can't stand the fact that they don't get a free hit when using an ambush attack. It absolutely always did work. Sprint Burst even has invincibility frames.
-
The devs have been doing bandaid fixes, and often charging for them, since the game launched. Generators get done so fast relative to chase times that winning is literally impossible against even decent survivors? Sell the Ruin perk and tell killers to equip it every single match. They're never going to address the problems SWF presents or overhaul all the maps.

As I've said, Triangle Face from Resident Evil.
-
Only if the Clown one has lots of honking.
-
We need Triangle Face from Resident Evil.
-
The Huntress is stronger than the Clown. He's better in a chase, sure, but he can't damage survivors as quickly or put as much pressure on them. He's king of mid tier, nothing more. The Clown only has a few bottles, so you can try to dodge one or two or throw that pallet down early and run while he reloads. Or just break line of sight in a walled area and loop so he can't see you. He'll start throwing bottles at halfway points in the loop and you can run or hide while he does this.

My opinion on the priority list.- Freddy
- Wraith
- Leatherface
- Pig (maybe)
- Clown (gigantic maybe)
Everybody else imo is fine currently.
All the Clown needs is a little something for getting a direct hit with a bottle. It's a waste of a mechanic and score event if it only does anything with an ultra-rare addon.

The Wraith doesn't need a buff. He needs a rework. He's a killer who can cloak, uncloak and chase without a power. And that's it. A killer with no tools to assist in a chase is not a good killer and never will be. Wraith was designed for the DbD of two years ago, not the DbD of today. He was quickly eclipsed by newer stealthy ambush killers.
-
I'd rather have Silent Hill, but I doubt Konami cares enough about its IPs to even pimp them out for cash.

This is a lie, no one is talking about the clown and no one is playing him either.Which is odd, because he's actually pretty damn good. Probably the fourth best killer.

Everyone says "Blank is too OP" when first fighting them, I'm not seeing him being a top tier killer though and I doubt the stats are there to support it at higher ranks
I'm not seeing Clown much at any rank. He seems very unpopular for a new killer, even though he's clearly one of the stronger ones.
-
Enduring soft-counters Decisive Strike and allows you to swing through every pallet without fear of the stun. It also lets you hit someone as they throw down a pallet and then grab them as they try to jump over, giving you a quick hook. All Brutal Strength does is let you break a pallet a little faster. It won't make a huge difference to most killers. I imagine Clown can get some good out of it, throwing bottle across the pallet and towards where the survivor is obviously going to run once he starts breaking, and then start breaking, but for most killers Enduring is far, far better even after the recent pallet changes. Before the recent pallet changes you frankly couldn't win without Enduring.
-
BBQ was designed to incentivize not tunneling. That's why you get the auras and have to hook everyone at least once to maximize your BP gain. Your change would remove the reason they made the perk in the first place.
-
@ACoolName said:
killer main ; Gen-Rushing is not real. it is survivors doing their one and only job. want to deal with gen- rush? you give more objectives to survivors.
tunneling doesn't exist. it's killer doing his job.
camping is the safe play for killer. but only nets him one or two kills if the survivors know what they are doing ( aka, said non existent genrush)And yet, the game incentivizes not tunneling, through meta perks like BBQ and Chili and other perks like Make Your Choice.
-
In terms of playstyle, the only way for a killer to be toxic is to do stuff like spam and cancel moris, leave people on the ground just because he wants them to have to bleed out when there's no D-strike to be afraid of, bodyblock to hold a match hostage, or hard camping someone even when it's not in his interest to do so and he knows everyone else is on the other side of the map. That said, Doctor and Freddy force pallet looping, time wasting and generator rushing, eliminating all choice in playstyle, so they're inherently toxic, and Hag is a mobile camper so all Hags are toxic as well. It's not the fault of the player, the characters are just poorly designed and not fun to play against.

Have only ran into 2 of them since the update actually launched, played as him and against plenty of them during the PTB thoughYes, I haven't seen a single one yet. Granted I was sick the first week and have only had a few dozen survivor matches. I can think of a lot of reasons for the lack of Clowns.
1: First paid DLC killer you can get for free if you wait and save your shards
2: Known to be crap in the PTB, many are probably unaware of how he was buffed, but heard that he was crap for weeks
3: People who are drawn to his playstyle may be inclined to stick with Huntress or Doctor, who are both similar to the Clown in some ways
4: He's not a top tier killer, and unlike the last three killers is not licensed so there's no hype to get them to buy him regardless
5: Some people don't want to be a fat slob
I don't think I've ever seen a killer this unplayed post-release. Even the Hag had lots of people playing for the first month. -
I used to have no main and just jumped from killer to killer. Now, I'm thinking of maining Clown.

I'd give him a way to have slightly more map pressure tho if I could.
His current power for chases is definitely fine and really strong.I dunno. I think it would be more interesting if you got rewarded for hitting them directly with the bottle.
I'm pretty sure I saw a dev mentionning that a direct bottle hit made the survivor vision more blurry, I don't remenber if it was on stream, somewhere in the forum or on discord doe
Even if that's true, the blur isn't a big deal past rank 20. The power exists for the slowdown.
-
Killers used to have complete control over the hook. Now, survivors can swarm the hook and overpower the killer, rescuing their friend with Borrowed Time and who no doubt has Adrenaline. Survivors have adapted to this playstyle and since Leatherface is one of the few killers who can still assert dominance at the hook, they underestimate him, get destroyed for doing something they'd get away with against most killers, and rage as a result.
-
@Mercury said:
I wish they had done the thing the changed with the doctor. A direct hit prevents vaults or pallet drops. That would be very nice too. I feel he needs something for this. It's the highest skill element to the Clown, complete with a scoring event, yet he gets absolutely nothing for it without an ultra-rare addon. It's bizarre.
-
Shapeshifting and mimicing survivors, though obviously they'd need to segregate SWF first.
-
That's the Hide or Die DLC.
-
Yes, I usually use Lithe because it's useful on just about every map and also synergizes with Dance With Me to help you escape. I'd use Balanced Landing if every map was designed with it in mind, but only maybe a third of them are.
-
It's fantastic on maps with large amounts of verticality, and good for losing the killer. And then you get sent to a launch map with one crappy hill again and again. That's why it isn't as popular as Sprint Burst and is the least used exhaustion perk.

-
I think they should have focused on nerfing or reworking Sprint Burst instead of Exhaustion perks in general. The real issue with Sprint Burst was not that it could recharge in a chase, but that it spoils the initial hit, dramatically extending the chase and seriously weakening killers with ambush potential such as Wraith, Pig and Myers, and killers with fast downing potential, such as Hillbilly, Leatherface and Huntress.

Clown, but only when he's using the cash shop outfit.

Because with all the anti-stealth elements the devs have introduced, it's now essential. You may not need to pallet loop a Huntress, instead being able to hide or break the chase and hide because she's slow, but you're going to need to pallet loop that Doctor or Freddy. And then you have Hillbilly with BBQ and Chili, able to reach you before the aura even fades.Doc and freddy can be reworked easily, in fact they are already implementing perks to get rid of docs scream e.g.
People aren't going to equip a perk just to counter one element of a mid-tier at best killer. How many people do you see running Small Game?
Some will indeed (me for example)
But yeah, the majority prefers to stick to the DS, SC sprintburst crutches because looping is just a lot easierEven if you're not using the crutch meta, it really isn't worth it to equip a perk just to deal with one element of one killer that isn't even that strong. Better to equip general purpose perks like Iron Will and Urban Evasion which will make it easier to stealth every other killer in the game.

I think it's way too late to fix anything. The problem is obvious - survivors can loop the killer around for too long, and good survivors are hitting great skillchecks almost constantly so they repair the generators really fast too. You could make killers more deadly in a chase, but that just makes them destroy low rank players, and just makes the strong killers even stronger and the weak killers acceptable at high ranks. If they hadn't gone out of their way to dis-incentivize stealth with the addition of the Doctor, Freddy and various anti-stealth perks then it would be feasible to make the survivors less able to loop killers around for days. But that grave has been dug.
You can stealth the doctor. You only scream when you reach a higher lvl of madness or when you are at madness 3. So it´s not impossible to stealth him.
Same goes for Freddy. You can stealth him before he found you. After that, it´s pretty useless, but then again, stealthing should happen before the killer (any killer) finds you.Expecting the player to completely stealth the doctor and never get into a chase with him is just madness. You have to do unhooks. You have to do generators where stealth really isn't possible.
Isn´t the whole doctor concept about madness?
Never had issues with the doctor. He´s annoying at most.
You can pinpoint where he is, when someone screams and you can SEE his terror radius long before you hear the heartbeat. Once you see the terror radius, just move and hide.
Even if you can´t stealth against a 3 gen doctor, it´s still possible to finish 1 of them.Move and hide where? He's going to be in anti-stealth mode with a massive terror radius. You probably don't have time to get away even with Urban Evasion.
So you get instanly from Madness 2 to 3 when you step on the terror radius of the killer.
Sure mate, whatever you say. You'll scream even in Madness 2.

DbD only has that many people because of hive mentality. Not much better
Well, I'd say DbD is successful because Friday the 13th The Game was a massive dumpster fire and the public is hungry for an online slasher game. I'm sure Behavior loves the fact that Friday the 13th brought more people on board their game and it failed the way it did.
If you look at Steam Charts, DbD's number kind of settled out at around 20K. Then Friday the 13th comes out, people play it, get frustrated with how non-functional it is, and they check out DbD. It also helped that Leatherface came out and brought on board more horror fans.
DbD was successful for a full year before F13 arrived and quickly became irrelevant. I don't doubt it boosted DbD further, however.

Survivors absolutely need some form of buff to their bloodpoint gains. Killers get lots of BP, especially with BBQ and Chili which half of them would run even without the BP bonus, so running it is a no brainer. Meanwhile survivors get very little BP unless it's a perfect game, WGLF gives no advantage and is a wasted slot used to reduce grind, and on top of that getting 4 WGLF tokens practically requires you spend all game unhooking, getting your team killed and generally not contributing. Killers will get 4 BBQ tokens most matches so long as they are trying to do so.It isn't true that WGLF encourages altruism. What is encourages is for everyone to divebomb the hook and make suicidal saves that will likely get their teammate killed or at the very least nobody is working on generators because they know the only way to make decent BP gains (or pip) is to do unhooks.
There is a difference in the survivor and killer BP gain. Because survivors can get a new match, when they die quickly, while the killer is stuck with the survivors until they all die or leave.
It´s way easier to get WGLF tokens than BBQ tokens. And not a single killer would use BBQ if they remove the bonus BPs.
Catching 4 loopers is way harder than standing in front of a hook, when someone is about to get hooked.Allow me to rephrase. It is very difficult to get 4 WGLF tokens without completely abandoning generators and just hookfarming all your teammates. Meanwhile all the killer has to do is hook everyone once. He doesn't even have to come close to winning.
And matches aren't very long, so the killer will get plenty of BP after a short time while the survivor gets almost nothing whether the match is short or long.
I´m not sure if you are trolling. But i´ll explain it anyway.
To get 4 tokens on BBQ, the killer needs to find, chase, down and hook every survivor once.
This is way harder than getting WGLF tokens.
Since you only need to leave your gen, stand in front of the hook when the killer is about to hook someone. The killer hits you (1 token), he hooks, and you unhook (2 tokens). Or you unhook (1 token) and get hit near the injured survivor (2 tokens). Which means you get 2 tokens for one of the killers hooks.
How is this in any way harder to achieve than BBQ tokens?!I suppose if you want to go out of your way to aid the killer to the point of letting him get a free hit on you before he does his hook AND informing him that you're nearby, then yeah, you can get the tokens easily, but I think I covered that when I talked about sabotaging the team.
Hook blocking is now sabotaging the team and not the killer?
Unless you're doing it at the end of a long hook walk or know the other guy has decisive strike, and thus know the guy is going to get free, then yes. 90% of the time a hook block is going to accomplish nothing.

The buffs they're already testing for him sound pretty good to me. 4 seconds instead of 7 seconds, self-care stops waking people up, these two changes alone make Freddy a lot stronger.
-
Freddy by far, assuming he's still invading people's dreams and isn't just a manlet with a clawed glove.

Camping works because the game forces you to unhook people if you want a decent amount of bloodpoints or a pip. Even the survivor perk that allows you to get a half-decent amount of BP requires unhooks.

I've been playing Friday the 13th for about a year now and will admit that I do very much enjoy it, even with its problems. The recent update has virtually destroyed it though. I'm a PC gamer and the F13 player base has dwindled to numbers in the hundreds. So, I finally gave in and just started playing Dead by Daylight. In F13 my favorite thing about Jason is his Stalk ability, and when I play as a counselor I normally take the "lone wolf" approach. So, naturally, I took the Wraith out for a spin before any other and I really like the mechanics. I've tried the Trapper, Nurse, Doctor, Leatherface, Meyers, and the hatchet thrower (don't remember the name).
The Wraith feels good to use, getting right up on top of survivors and popping out of cloak. He's fast, handles well, his ability allows for some great chases if you can correctly anticipate the survivors next move(s). I'll always gravitate towards stealthy game play if it's an option. I'll get around to learning Myers at some point.
I've been playing about a week now. Killing no one in a match is obviously not fun. Killing 2 of 2 is a fun match. 4 of 4 feels really rewarding. I'll stick with the Wraith for now. I've got him up to level 25 now and I'm experimenting with the perks, I'm using (sorry I can't remember the name) the one where you hear the Entity when a survivor is close, the one that drops your fear radius to 0 after standing still, and I think the bloodhound one. Really enjoying him all around. And, this new candle set-up he has coming is just all kinds of sick.
I play, or rather, played F13 as well, and enjoyed stalking too. If you want to be a stalking killer I'd really recommend Myers or the Pig instead because they can actually walk around a corner and hit a survivor with no warning, even if they can't become invisible. The Wraith has to give himself away which ruins the jumpscare. Plus, Wraith is garbage while Myers is actually pretty good.
Myers is the kind of killer who can build his power to 99%, have almost no terror radius with the Doctor's Monitor and Abuse perk, and then turn a corner and oneshot someone with no warning. With the right add-on he could even kill them right then and there with no hooks. Much closer to the Jason stalk experience. Only downside is that he doesn't have the faster movement speed that the Wraith has while cloaked, and he's quite visible and only stealthy in the sense that he has a small terror radius, so you need to be sneaky.
