To some degree, he has to do that. We don't know what's going on in the game either. Until people decided to vent on the company over the Halloween Event, they have been at each other's throats in violent disagreement over the problems of the game for months. Everyone who is emotionally invested is biased and compromised. With that in mind, most game companies like this try to divest themselves of the emotional appeal and just go by statistics. I'm not saying it is the right thing to do in ever case, but I understand why the method exists.
He used Escape and usage statistics to defend Object of Obsession.
i.e. It's not used often and that people who use it tend to die, so it's okay.
I'm sure Ethan's an awesome guy and a valuable member of the dev team, but if he actually thinks OoO is okay he has no clue what this game is like and focuses too much on statistics.
I will happily admit I stopped watching the stream after that comment, so if he rescinded it later, feel free to correct me.

If you're not having fun with DBD or the community, you should go.
I hope you get a reason to come back some day (fingers crossed this add-on change for Myers is a net buff, not a net nerf), but don't stick around if it's not fun.
DBD is a game at the end of the day. It should be fun to play.

Stay safe out there.

Tbh I was expecting Nea to be the first LGBT survivor (I don't mean to enforce stereotypes but come on, just look at her) but so far there hasn't been any evidence of her being so. Other than that I can't really decide who I would think was LGBT. Maybe Zarina? None of them seem to have any obvious tells about their sexuality.
Actually, there are a lot of characters with tells about their sexuality.
Felix has a girlfriend and a son, Frank and Julie are a couple and apparently really love each other based on their lore, David had a girlfriend in his tome lore, Nurse had a husband whose death strongly affected her, and Nurse and Wraith have cosmetics indicating a relationship between them.
The issue BHVR wanted to address was that all relationships that are hinted at are heterosexual ones.
I'm personally all for trying to keep sexuality as much out of DBD as possible, but BHVR have said they wanted to do something and I'm all for it. So far though, nothing has happened (to the best of my knowledge).

Being a strong woman that stands up for female rights does not make someone a lesbian.
She might be, she might not be. We'll have to wait and see if they ever say.

Less people play Legion compared to Claudette. The Claudette skin will be put out as fully priced but with great detail, and all because people are going to buy it, no questions asked.
If you turn out to be right and isn't in the next Rift or available for shards, I'll be [BAD WORD] mad.

Early 3D renders of the Claudette outfit actually look really good. The only reason why is because more players are survivor mains and half of those survivor mains are Claudette mains, meaning people will want the outfit and therefore spend money on it.
The Claudette outfit literally copied Nea's sweatpants even though the design was significantly different.
The design:

The Legion wasn't coded to have that feature basekit. The Oni was.
That's an excuse.
Legion already changes their noises based on their skin; it's not like the idea is totally alien.
Additionally, they delayed the Claudette outfit because it wasn't ready. If they really liked what Amacky had made they could have taken the time to make it work.
The community was in love with that design, people would have waited.

Yep, that game takes the cake for the worst monetisation I've ever seen. Bethesda's pricing strategy for that game is obscene. Since release they got exponentially worse with it and now it's at an all-time low. To me it's still the single worst game of all time and probably always will be, and it and Fallout 4 are a disgrace to the Fallout franchise as a whole.
Gonna be totally honest, I had to look that up because I didn't believe you.
Nope, sure enough, they tried selling people a $7 fridge. It had a in-game benefit too.
What a joke.

Yeah but you've got 30 in the lobby so you can still buy cosmetics easily, that's what is important to them.
You actually don't; on console switching between menus can freeze the game for a second or two and moving the cursor is really sluggish at times.
I bring this up because I know for a fact that on PC it is much smoother.

Just don't make Ghostface avaliable for free. Simple.
This.
It's not like BHVR couldn't just make GF unavailable for purchase through Putrid Serum. They control the event and the game; it's not like it's a switch that flips either on or off.
-
To be brutally honest, I don't understand why they WOULDN'T do it that way either, because then they could make them auric cell only after the event and nobody would really complain. Everyone who missed the event/didn't progress enough and wanted them would have to pay for them. But instead they're making them shards available, so you'll be able to get them year round.
Why though? From my perspective all it's really done is cheapen the 'event' from "play in special ways; earn special stuff" to 'look at these cool cosmetics' and I don't see what the payoff for them is.
Unless somehow it's a lot easier to make cosmetics available for free for shards forever instead of serum for like two weeks?
I just don't understand.
-
Call me cynical, but since Slippery Meat just got changed, I'd be willing to bet the odds were actually good. Or at least a little higher than they would have been normally.
That said, it is really funny when counters to builds bump into each other in the wild. Like bringing Hangman's Trick and randomly getting a Sabo Squad back in the day. Or having Blindness add-ons and getting an OoO.

No, you can still use the basement stairs; but only when you're chased from a specific direction.

The devs don't know their own game/getting stacks from saves has been a bug since WGLF was released and is only now an intended feature.
I haven't played since the patch, but at least prior to it you would also get stacks for Bear Trap rescues.

I also spotted that the Meg in the clip didn't make any noise when falling the 2nd time and she doesn't have BL lmao. So sounds are still bad this patch as well.
At this point I'm more surprised when sounds do work as intended.
-
Removing this and his whole M2/M1 choice of death is what they were changing him for, so I think it's safe to say it's not intended.
That said, it was a thing during the PTB too so if it's still in the game IDK. Maybe it's a bug that's just hard to fix?

Yeah it's comparable with old freddy, no good freddy wanted the rework.
Man, Old Freddy was so fun if you knew how to play him and got good skillcheck RNG.
The falling asleep invisibility mind games; Old Nancy's Masterpiece and Nancy's Sketch for Sniper Freddy; the basekit free slow down to asleep Survivors; using Red Paint Brush, M&A, and thick mist to jumpscare sleeping Survivors.
Good times.
Best part of it was that nobody could complain, because you were playing Freddy and everyone knew he was 'garbage'.
-
You're right, Nurse doesn't deserve that.
She can be OP when the game works correctly and you're good at her, but changing her enough to really matter would just be a middle finger to that unique playstyle.
This game needs more wildly different Killers like Nurse and Old Freddy, not less.
-
I haven't played DBD today.
Did they change it all from the PTB; where they brought back all the old infinites but with breakable walls?
So if you want to actually play the game like it's not 2016 you need to break 2-3 walls at the start?

I wouldn’t hold your breath sadly. I just hope console folks protest by not buying a single cosmetic as that seems to be the only thing bhvr puts any effort in to.
I haven't bought Descent Beyond or any cosmetics. Whatever the next chapter is, I'm not getting it.
I have enough auric cells leftover from the 1st Rift so I can get any future ones I complete - I really enjoy playing DbD - but I'm not getting any cosmetics or chapters until they fix the game for console.
Obviously what I buy or don't buy doesn't matter in the slightest to the devs; but it makes any similar actions by someone else more meaningful.
I just hope it adds up enough so that BHVR notices and does something.
-
Awww, Daddy Myers!
That makes me think of that one photo shoot...
-
Oh great, another thing that needed a minor change getting a ton of them suddenly, while stuff that could do with a rework gets a few meters or seconds shifted if it gets any changes at all.
I like the devs, and balancing a game like DBD is probably confusing and complicated as all heck, but just why?
Why nerf stuff like Hangman's Trick, Franklin's Demise, and Discordance?
I genuinely don't see the need to.

I know he was talking about the Killer. However, short of having a Perk to allow the Killer to see in dark conditions (there is one) they also get the same lighting conditions.
Wait, what perk?
Shadowborn doesn't make the Killer's POV brighter and hasn't in a looooong time.
-At topic-
Personally I don't see why the game couldn't be brighter for Killers by default or just brighter in general.
Killers are supposed to have enhanced senses in the lore, and playing a game where you can't see what you're supposed to be doing isn't scary; it's frustrating.

All the people hating Jeff break my heart.
Like, I get hating Nea; most 'toxic' people play her or Claudette. I get hating Quentin; it's natural to become jealous when exposed to what is quite clearly the nigh unattainable peak of humanity.
But Jeff is just a chill guy. He loves art, heavy metal, and his dog. The people who play him are generally chill too.
Stop hating Jeff :'(

Maybe now they will have time to take a look on the niche problems that almost no one has an issue with. DS, Undying, Object for example.

I play solo and only solo I don't have the luxury of telling teamates to split up. And For the rare times I actually find someone playing pyramid head he 4k's 9 times out of 10 if that doesn't seem broken then that's on you.
If your teammates aren't splitting up and doing gens it doesn't matter whether you're facing a Pyramid Head or an addonless Clown; you're probably going to all die.
That's not Pyramid Head being oppressive, that's your team killing you; i.e. the standard solo experience.
-
@mightygiraffe said:

So fake a pallet drop? You don't know how many times I've tried that and it not work, they just backtrack for one milisecond and then continue after me with the m1. He severely needs a cool down to be able to walk again after using rites of judgement.
Nowhere in my, admittedly massive, wall of text did I say fake a pallet drop.
Don't go to loops. Make him think you will but actually just hold W.
Countering Pyramid Head isn't about not going down, it's about making that take as long a time as possible.
-
@mightygiraffe said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1688601#Comment_1688601
No he's just broken right now, I'm stating facts here not open for argument.
You're free to think he's broken, but that's a qualitative attribute and thus an opinion, not a fact.
A fact is that he moves at 4.6 m/s and has 0 extra mobility in his power. He may be great in chases, but if your team does gens you can beat him.
Splitting up and doing separate gens hurts him just like every other Killer.
-
Try to break LOS (at least the first time you're chased) and make him think you'll loop, but really just hold W.
Most Pyramid Heads are kinda goofy and set preemptive trails or go for cheeky PotD hits. If they do you'll make a lot of distance.
Even if they are good/call you out on holding W you'll at least force an M1 (since his M2 is easy to dodge if you're in the open and it slows him a lot) and get a speed boost to keep holding W.
-
If there are multiple level loops abuse the heck out of them.
He can't use POTD over drops or gaps, so windows and pallets that drop down are your best friend. Be aware of potential angles where he can hit you/there is a continuous line of terrain though; loops like the Corn Harvester are safe from most directions, but have angles where POTD can hit you.
Use them at your risk and only if you think the PH is a bit below amazing level.
-
Unless avoiding stepping in a trail would give him a free and easy slug for pressure that could be avoided, don't do it. Ever.
Being Tormented just gives him a free Mori / tunnel / camp if he has Iridescent Seal of Metatron.
Never give him that. It can and will cost the game.
-
Basically, play like a Rank 20 and force him to be an M1 Killer.
It's the dumbest and most boring counterplay in the world, but it actually buys time.
Most of the time.
-
Whether you have teammates that use that time is another matter entirely.
-
I'm a bit confused, is this a "who would be cool" question? Or a "who do you want to be able to hook/Mori as Killer" question?
-
I'd love Sebastian Castellanos from The Evil Within as a Survivor.
He's kinda a stereotypical hard boiled detective, but I just love him. We went through some tense and frustrating times together in The Evil Within.
It'd be fun bumping into him as Killer, tbagging and toxic person playing as him or no.
-
If we're taking Survivors we'd like to kill I wouldn't mind having any of the Scream cast.
Even the first movie went on a bit too long and far with being meta for me, but at least it had a couple really cool sequences (the intro scene is one of the best scenes in horror film IMO). The rest were just bad and leaned way too much into the whole meta angle. They also helped start an, also IMO, annoying trend of 'self aware' horror movies that worry too much about being meta and messing with your expectations.
Being able to murder the heck out of a Dewey, Gale, or Sidney, provided they looked legally distinct enough from their respective actors, might be cathartic.

Doomguy.
Ash, Bill, and Doomguy all become the power role of a new game mode where they hunt down 4 Killers with shotguns as the Killers try to Kill 8 Survivors and Escape.
This is a joke.
-
As a console player unless they have cute matching names or are obvious about it, it's hard to tell.
That aside my experience varies. Sometimes I can have fun fighting and losing against a sweaty team on Ormond, other times it's not fun to face a meme squad that spend more time sandbagging each other than playing the game.
It really depends on me and my mood at the time.
As for knowing or not, I don't really care. It wouldn't change how I prepare for a game.
-
I love doing it if the person obviously had a rough game or had teammates that threw/sandbagged.
Otherwise it's less that I enjoy it, and more that I think they'll enjoy it and I don't really need a 4k.
What I do love is giving Killers a kill. I know they can have a super rough time of it from first hand experience, so being able to be like, "it's okay, kill me" just makes me happy.
It's just too bad that I find Survivor gameplay to generally be a super boring and miserable experience.
-
Not really, but that might be partly because I'm speaking with my wallet until BHVR makes progress towards console optimization.
If I can't earn any Halloween outfits in game, I'm fine with not getting any new Halloween outfits.
-
I think it defeats the point of add-ons and perks if they're all limited usage.
The game might be easier to balance without them sure, but removing them would just make things more boring and samey.
And there's no need to delete all of them instead of just making the problematic stuff better or worse (depending on why it's problematic).
-
They're fictional characters; either of them could win depending on the person describing/writing this encounter.
Personally I say Spirit, because she can teleport, but that doesn't mean there aren't tons of scenarios where Oni might win.
-
He kinda fits the stereotypical coward archetype but not in a 'everyone-else-can-die-for-all-I-care' way, he cares about other people, his perks all revolve around being a team player, his overall look is simple but nice, and he's cute.
The other three are all still cool too though.

Yes; Plague, Oni, and new Leatherface are much better at what he does.
It doesn't help that the Undetectable status effect was a nerf for his Tier 1 because he was always immune to aura reading. All he did was become detectable with Premonition and Spine Chill.
His add-ons are overall okay (nothing like Pig, Pyramid Head, Demogorgon, or etc.) but they don't really improve him as a Killer either and could do with an overhaul.
Myers basically just relies on Survivors grouping up and messing up like Legion does; his only difference is that he Exposes people instead of keeping them Injured. If he can't slug as an 115% M1 Killer, he loses the game.
-
All-in-all there are only four reasons to play as Michael Myers: Scratched Mirror, the Tombstone add-ons, you have a daily for him, or because he's Michael Myers. The devs have said before that they want to take a look at him, I can only hope it's sometime soon.
-
I can't find much on this; it might just be mistakenly referring to this PS4 theme.
Since we don't know anything about the UI of the PS5 yet, or if they'll have themes of any kind, this would be a significant leak if it's true. Which is why we probably won't get any kind of Sony confirmation one way or another; especially with the PS5 coming right around the corner.
-
As Mandy said, it's encrypted.
I think a more likely explanation is that they brought maps to track totems for Ruin + Undying.
