It happens with me just as much as taking a break from the game does.
Sometimes I wanna play Dead by Daylight and sometimes I wanna play Dark Souls, or Darkest Dungeon, or Life is Strange, or whatever. Games are meant to be fun, and endless repetition will only make something boring.
That said, I'm personally still not really eager to start playing DBD again, and I don't really care about the new update (Autohaven changes are really nice - much better than MacMillan changes IMO - but they're still the same maps, more or less).
I still do like this game though, just probably not going to playing any time soon - and that's okay. When I'm in the mood, I'll probably play again. And then when I'm done, I'll probably stop playing DBD. And so on, and so on.
-
I miss the old version's ability to deplete charges.
Wanna heal yourself with that brown Medkit? One smack = nope.
Trying to genrush or sabotage? Say goodbye to a chunk of that toolbox.
Looking at stuff with that burrito? Not for as long as you'd like!
Have a Key? Not if I hit you enough times, you don't. And good luck opening Hatch when I can smack it out of your hands.
Like, the new version is cool and all, but I can't say I've had enough items evaporate on the ground that I feel like it's clearly better than just taking 15% of the item per hit.
All in all, I still love Franklin's; if only because it gives some kind of counterplay to Dull and Skeleton Keys.
-
Yea, I versed EdgarAlanBro.
I found out later that I got called "brain dead" on stream (I didn't see him through the corn). That made me laugh.
All in all it was a pretty sucky game though. Everyone involved, streamer and myself included, played pretty badly. But even so, I had fun watching myself on the VOD.
-
I know some people find Doctor's Killer POV music repetitive and annoying, but I really dig it.
I still don't play him a lot but it's probably my favorite as Killer.
Too bad it's bugged right now.

Does anyone have a screenshot/picture of these gens? I'm curious as to how bad they look.

Yes please!
Let me see other players do this as Killer or as Survivor.

Whats the problem?
I've heard that as Killer it will only play for like three seconds. Then it will stop completely.
Then it will start for three seconds again. Then stop. Then start. Then stop. And so on and so on.
For Survivor he apparently just has one of the default TRs and chase themes.

I say apparently because I haven't played or faced Doctor since the bug, just heard the complaints of people who have.

Instadown killers
I feel like instadown Killers don't really make Dead Hard worse.
Survivors become encouraged to avoid healing so that they can use Dead Hard to avoid the Killer's instadown/basic attacks after they're unhooked, Escape chase, or picked up.
The one situation where Dead Hard is meaningless is if you get instadowned and are left to die on hook by your teammates.
Otherwise you will always get potential value.
-
As for the topic.
Personally, I don't really think that Dead Hard being consistently good is a bad thing. I think more perks should have near guaranteed value like Dead Hard or Whispers.
I'm not saying Dead Hard is totally fine - Dead Hard for distance is annoying and Dead Hard against Trapper, Huntress, Nurse, and Blight can be frustratingly strong - just saying that I'm not so sure that a perk being reliably good is problematic.
-
1/10 as both. Regardless of role played, I will always find a way to mess something up.
-
I anti-hoard with Quentin; I refuse to level him (even once) until I've used almost every useable item, add-on, and offering on him.
I make an exception for Emergency Medkits, Halloween items, and event cakes, but everything else must go!
-
On Nea though, I absolutely do hoard every item and offering. She's also the only Survivor I have that I managed to get more than one 3rd Year Event Cake on, because of how stupid the spawn rates were for Survivors and how little I play Survivor.
-
Yea, I had the switch happen as I entered a lobby. It also unequipped the event stuff.
Blight Bubba no more :c

Yea it's there too.
There's a little boarded up alcove by the bed with a skull, candles, and (IIRC) the black box of photos that Nancy and Quentin find in the movie.

The Evil Within's The Keeper and Sebastian Castellanos. The Keeper is basically made for DbD already with barbed wire traps, a teleporting mechanic, a weapon hit cooldown animation, and a name that already fits DbD's killer naming convention (i.e. ' The _____'). Sebastian is just a cool character that I'd like to play as in DbD.
Harry Warden/The Miner from My Bloody Valentine could be fun as a Killer; let him blind Survivors with his mining headlamp and give Flashlight squads a taste of their own medicine.
Any of the special zombies from L4D or L4D2 as a Killer along with the rest of the Survivors as Legendary cosmetics (yea, yea, Dwight has an Ellis cosplay and etc. But it's just not the same :c ) would be something I would Mori for.

I only noticed it on the new Macmillan map. And only seen it happen on the hilltop. It was a hill with a hook up there, and the hill was quite rocky. Haven’t tried pushing the survivor out or anything. The killer just hit me once and let me out.
Okay, doesn't sound like it's as bad.
The old one there was literally no way out besides downing the Survivor and using the generosity of the pick up prompt to suck them out of the spot.
-
Ugh, not the hills from hell again.
Can you free people from these spots without getting stuck yourself like you could with the last one? Where exactly are the sticky spots?
-
As a Survivor games are fun or not based more on what kind of teammates I get and how the Killer plays.
Almost any Killer can be really fun or really annoying to face; it's all about the other 4 players.
-
Clown is the only exception.
It's not that he's too strong or that I die to him a lot: I just dislike his power.
It's boring, gives me a headache, and it generally forces you to slam pallets like you're a Rank 20.
-
I swear Bloody Party Streamers are cursed, it doesn't matter what role I'm playing, they mean it's going to be a very one sided game (occasionally it's very one sided in my favor, but that's still not fun).
The only good games I've had with BPSes are when everyone decides to farm.
And even then does a farming game really count as a good game?

I'm sorry, but if all you have to back up this outrageous claim is "I looked it up" with no actual experience for what it was actually like, I can't say yours is a very reliable opinion.
You're an outsider looking in. I'll tell you right now he sucked. He wasn't fun to play as or against, it was boring, it was tedious, and FAR from unique. I don't understand how the hell you can confuse "being unique" with straight up "Being an M1 killer" that's ALL he was unless you scaled really far up the chain to the most skilled of the old version Freddy's who used the brief glimpses of visibility during dream transition to mindgame, but even this wasn't reliable at every tile, (not to mention these people themselves were probably more rare than finding a good Nurse nowadays). Spirit does the exact same goddamn thing or at least something very similar, but consistently, yet I don't see you praising her for being "unique".
These "Old Freddy Sympathizers" need to die out already. I'm tired of hearing this being brought up, especially since it was us the community as a majority that pushed so long (2 FULL YEARS) for these changes. And now people on a whim decide to google it and think "actually, it looked like blast!"
You've got to be kidding me. Hell ######### no it was not.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1717430#Comment_1717430
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
What made Freddy unique was the way that you had to play him, because of how his power worked.
He had to fight the Survivors as whole: putting them all to sleep to benefit from his slowdown, and pressuring multiple people by alternating between leaving people and jumpscaring them to make use of his small Terror Radius and built in aura reading.
Playing him like you would any other Killer would just get you stomped: if you try to 1v1 people you're just a 115% M1 Killer that can only hurt one person at a time. Obviously you'll lose unless the Survivors just give you the win.
Old Freddy was all about juggling people and slowing things down as you chipped through their resources and did your best to keep every plate spinning.
Was he good? Heck no; he needed to be reworked.
Even ignoring the obvious problems of the 7 second transition, skillcheck RNG could and would screw you over: even with the best add-ons to try and counter it. I know, I had my share of games where people could just fail skillchecks midchase, even with both dresses. It was dumb and needed changing.
But the way you had to play him was extremely different from every other Killer. It was like playing a different game, and it was incredibly fun when it worked out.
-
Also Spirit's passive phasing is totally random, you can't use it skillfully as a mindgaming tool as her because you can't know when it happens or for how long. It just happens and maybe tricks Survivors, but maybe they just messed up - you'll never know.
Freddy's was timed and meant that you, the player, could intentionally use it as a mindgame provided you had experience and a suitable loop.
Spirit is a unique Killer, but there's a big difference between the two mechanics.
-
Huntress' meme add-on is Pungent Fiale. It just needs to give extra Deviousness for blinding me with 5000 Hatchet auras.
-
Iridescent Seal of Metatron isn't totally worthless... ...but that's because of a bug.
At least he's not part of the 'my best add-ons are brown' gang? Not that there's anything wrong with Demogorgon or Pig.
-
He was really different and had fun mechanics - most of which took inspiration from the film: his biggest problem was that his entire power revolved around skillchecks - failed skillchecks would wake up sleeping Survivors.
Skillchecks are, by their nature, completely random.
I'm sure you can see the problem here already; how he was released honestly baffles me.
A Survivor might start Self-Caring in your face, instantly mess up a skillcheck and become invincible for 7~ish seconds. Or a Survivor might Self-Care themselves to full through Sloppy Butcher and Freddy's built in sleeping debuff, but not once get a skillcheck.
Depending on the will of RNGeezus you might comfortably slug everyone at 5 gens or get like two or three hooks all game. This is all without mentioning the innate issues behind a Killer that has to wait 7 seconds to attack a Survivor.
Obviously the devs had to do something about both these issues. And unfortunately just buffing Freddy wasn't an option, because (all memes aside) if he kept people in the dream world he was actually oppressive. All action speeds were halved by basekit (he had add-ons to increase the slow down) and he could see your every move outside his Terror Radius.
If he could do that reliably or consistently, he would absolutely crush people.
I don't particularly agree with the direction they took New Freddy, but Old Freddy did need a rework - not just a buff. It's just lame they didn't stick with more of what made him unique, instead of making him another basic Killer.
-
That's a really cool idea. I dig it.
-
Despite potentially forfeiting the ability to find people right as they are about to bleed out and only barely getting those sweet, sweet Sacrifice points in the past; I'm for this. Being able to hold a button to bleed out twice as fast should be a thing.
The quicker a game that is obviously already over can end, the better for everyone involved IMO.
-
@EvilJoshy said:
It was 20k wasnt it?
Yea, AFAIK it was bugged if you used anything that gave extra BP/increased BP gains. People would get like 16 points towards it per game after maxing out Objective or Deviousness.
Kinda funny they just did this, but I suppose giving people a fix quickly is better than taking time to try and find the source of the bug.
-
It used to be old Hangman's Trick because it made sure you always had a hook available. That perk was garbage but I loved it; I'm still upset they nerfed it into a weak tracking perk for apparently no reason.
-
Currently, it's probably Whispers. It's helped me basically since I started playing the game; it was my first perk on Huntress (back then you had to level up a character for their teachables: Whispers was literally the first and only perk I could use) and I've used it off and on ever since.
I love both the simple strength of it's design and the experience that using it to it's utmost requires. You can't just throw Whispers on and benefit; you need experience with the perk, the map, and the way Survivors operate.
There should be more strong perks like that.
-
@danielmaster87 said:
Y'all are so quick and desperate to say that new killer powers are a mix of old killer powers. But when you're in the devs position, I doubt your ideas would be any better.
To a certain degree, people are right though.
There are only four kinds of Killers; ranged, set-up, mobility, and stealth.
Either the Killer has an attack that hits from a distance to catch Survivors off-guard, they use their power in advance in order to give themselves an advantage in catching Survivors off-guard later, they traverse the map quickly to catch Survivors off-guard, or they make themselves harder to notice to catch Survivors off-guard.
We haven't had a unique Killer since our first Ranged type Killer.
-
BUT that's less the developers being incompetent or uncreative, and more their current game having limitations.
A disguise Killer would be countered by Empathy, Bond, Better Together, Kindred, and SWF.
A Killer that corrupts Survivors into it's allies just wouldn't work in the current game.
A puzzle based Killer that forces Survivors to solve challenges just couldn't work in a game based around 12 hook states aand 5 generators.
A Killer that can transform the actual layout of the map (not add props, but shift the map itself around) would break the game's balance in addition to probably being immensely hard to design.
A Killer that is actually multiple Killers just would not work in a game mode with 4 Survivors.
Et cetera.
-
The only unused Killer type I can think of that might work in the current game would be a slowdown Killer - one who can just reduce Survivor action speed.
But we already had one of those; old Freddy. And IIRC after nerfing Forever Freddy IIRC the devs have expressed their desire to avoid giving Killers built in slow down.
---
TL;DR ::: Killers are samey, but that's cuz we only have one game mode.
-
Exactly, it has no effect - so let people want what they want.
If you really don't care why say anything? Just ignore it and move on.

Very kind. Idk. Just seems like they don’t want me in the game anymore. I don’t play better or worse than anyone except when I’m actually getting tunneled bc I panick. I try to be respectful and use nonmeta perks or items but I just keep getting kicked from these games. I’m usually just tunneled out mid game, 2-3 gens and everyone already been hooked or one person hasn’t. Idk. Maybe it’s just misfortune. Currently running blight Claud with shorts.
I'm sorry things are going poorly for you; solo queue frankly sucks.
You could bring DS, Unbreakable, and etc., play like a god and still get killed by your own team. I know I've been handed wins against a really good Survivor or two just because their teammates were bad.
-
I'm a Killer Main, it's tough for me to give Survivor advice, but I'd suggest running whatever perks you want.
If you don't wanna run meta perks, don't. But also don't be afraid to run them just because they might annoy certain players.
I think acting respectfully in-game and in post game chat speaks a lot louder than what perks you use. I never look at someone's perks, see meta stuff, and think "What a jerk".
Additionally, try to find fun in things besides pipping or Escaping. You can't control whether you do either of those, so try to find something else to gauge victory by.
I know that's easier said than done, but there are people who play Killer and will do their utmost to kill people for having a funny name or playing a specific Survivor.
Being able to let that kind of stuff slide off you instead of bugging you will help a lot.
-
I'm sorry if none of this helps; I hope you have better and more enjoyable future matches.
-
If I think the person in question is a bit derpy and can be quickly and easily downed, I'll slug to either force someone to pick them up or eat their Unbreakable while I chase their rescuer. If nobody ever picks them up (their bleed out bar starts to run out) I'll hook them again/give Hatch if everyone else is dead.
If they have OoO and have non Rank 20 teammates, I have to tunnel them - they're just too dangerous to be left alive.
If they have a Key and gens are close to all getting done I have to tunnel them - again too dangerous to be left alive.
If they sandbagged another Survivor I will make sure they die and the sandbag victim lives.
-
I was always hoping that whenever we got The Alchemist as a playable character that he'd come with the Town of Weeks as his map.
In the old lore it was a place in our world where the Entity's Realm was close; people would vanish consistently and the townspeople had strange secrets.
It was the impetus for Benedict Baker's investigation and his eventual imprisonment in the Entity's Realm, as well as having a strong relationship with The Trapper and the MacMillan estate.
A foggy town with vaguely unsettling architecture, narrow streets and alleys amidst cramped buildings, secret rooms inside buildings that are blocked off with breakable walls/secret doors that open with generators, and the silhouette of the MacMillan estate in the distance would make for an amazing map IMO - lore relevance aside.
-
What I don't like about the Us vs. Them stuff is that it's inescapable.
You can't post a meme on the subreddit or answer a question on the forums without seeing "All Killers are sweaty tryhards and need to be tbagged" or "Survivors are all brain dead idiots because they're all toxic jerks" or whatever nonsense people say.
I'm a Killer Main, but I don't have trouble understanding that people play the other side too. Every game has 5 people in it, and the four that aren't me are just as important as I am.

I have a question for you that you might not be able to answer: how does the Wraith open his fridge without going blind and screaming?
The Pig unscrewed the light bulb from his fridge for him. Mandy's a true friend like that.
Unfortunately, every time Phillip wants to make a sandwich he has to stick his hands into a Jigsaw box and feel around for the right ingredients, but it's a small price to pay.

This is 2020, not 2016. Nobody cares about his lame invisibility anymore.
I mean, how many other Killers have musical instruments?
Does Legion get a kazoo? Where are Trapper's bongos? Why doesn't Huntress have a guitar?
No, Wraith gets all the love and adoration of BHVR and people still want to give him buffs? SHM my head.
It's almost like people think he doesn't need to be Lightburned or could do with a higher movement speed while cloaked. All his many penalties are obviously there to offset the amazing power of music.

Every once in awhile I break out basement Bubba just to see how it goes, and every time I’ve done it (granted it’s only been like four times, so small sample size) the survivors always do some bizarre rescue plan that ends in a 4K.
No one ever just pumps out gens, it’s always trading up. I start with one, someone goes for the save and fails, and then the others try to save the two. And these are red rank survivors mind you, no clue what the deal is with that.
In addition to everything everyone else has said, Red Ranks means nothing anymore. Pipping is more indicative of time played since the last 13th than it is of skill.

No , that's not what they were saying. They were saying that Blights first person animations are actually shrunken parts (to keep them within the POV while playing first person, and if they raised the height that the animation would fall outside of the POV entirely and therefore, because the individuals who are needed to make that change are working on something else right now, the change is low priority.
Ah, my bad.

I wonder how it looked from the Survivors' POV.
Whether Tall Blight looked anything like Tall Pig
Or if it was more like Flexing Wraith
Regardless, I'm sure it was glorious though.

I didn't see it myself, but I heard it was "low priority" because "it would take a lot of time?" Which seems weird, SINCE IT HAPPENED ON ACCIDENT.
Forgive me if this was never actually said and I read bad info.
They have said it is low priority and will take a lot of time, but (IIRC) that's because a Killer's 1st person POV is also tied to the Survivors' 3rd person POV.
Apparently, changing one changes the other because they actually both occur; just that each side sees a different animation. So if they wanted to raise his FOV from his crotch to his neck they'll have to completely redo all his animations for both sides. According to the Q&A stream (again, IIRC) the animators are busy working on something else right now, and they can't just drop whatever it is they're doing to fix all The Blight's animations.

I didn't say to use bbq. I said to use whispers. The mention of bbq was an example for him to make the choice from.
You said "Whispers or BBQ".
But it doesn't really matter. I'm just explaining why they might want NOED and why I personally don't think BBQ would be a perk worth taking.
-
@DCash said:
I like trail of Torment on Myers a lot. I would not use noed with this build though. Just my preference. Since it's a build designed to insta kill, having an insta down kinda makes no sense to me. Like if noed has lit up and you still don't have tier 3.....you already lost, you will depip for sure, so what's noed really gonna do? This seems like a waste of a perk slot to me. Nemesis / enduring would go nicely. Whispers or bbq for information for faster tracking and stalking. Corrupt intervention to buy more time early game for stalking. To me this build is about getting that stalk on as fast as possible so you want to have a strong early game. Using an endgame perk for an early game build does not make sense. I think this build could be even stronger if you ditched noed. Personally I always end up going for whispers with this build to find the people who inevitably hide once they realize what's going on.
If I had to guess, NOED is used for the movement speed boost.
But I agree with you that it's a bad choice. If you have Tier 3 PWYF, you can be 119% as long as you bump into your Obsession 3 times before the games ends/they die. Moving at 123% probably isn't going to make that big of a difference, especially since they'll have the Gates available by that point.
Corrupt would be a lot better since it will force people into you and help prevent 3 gens popping all at once while you stalk someone, and Whispers is always useful for any Killer's early and late games. I disagree with you on BBQ though; if you're bringing either of the Tombstones you shouldn't spend time going for hooks or bloodpoints - it's just counterproductive.
-
I know this doesn't really provide immediate help, but I have been able to play cross platform with a friend of mine.
She's on PS4 and I'm on PC. I've been able to invite her and she's been able to invite me multiple times since the update without issue.
If it matters we were cross-friends prior to the update though.
-
This game is fun, but the grind is atrocious for new players.
Especially if you wanna play as the "good guys", AKA The Survivors, like I imagine most of the people I know would, if they decided they were interested.
When I started the grind was really bad (worse in some ways), but you could at least unlock most of what the game had to offer in a reasonable time. The only friend I've recommended it to joined during that time too, and I did it partly because I knew she didn't mind games with a big grind.
Nowadays I cannot imagine starting as a brand new player with no perks, no experience with the game, and no DLC.
I don't think I'd have kept playing if this was the DBD I'd bought about 3 years ago, so I can't (in good conscience) recommend it to someone.
Especially when there are still so many issues with the game.
