Behavior can take something out of the game just as easily as they put it in. That is my point here.
People want to make the case that tunneling & camping are inevitables when they most certainly are not.
As far as anyone knows, BHVR could have already gone down the rabbit hole and explored versions of DBD where tunneling and camping are not viable strategies. Its entirely possible they drew conclusions that they don't know how to make it work while preserving DBD's identity. Or perhaps they've just received pushback from investors or lead designers to take that risk and make such radical changes to a game that is doing well enough.
Regardless, I don't think we (the community) should be complacent about tunneling & camping in its current state.

This couldn't be further from the truth.
What I said was objectively true, sorry. It's in this thread as well as others. Feel free to go read it. On the first page there is a post implying tunneling is toxic. The steam forums are constantly filled with people implying or stating tunneling is "toxic behavior"

Why do I somehow get the feeling your talking about cm winter?
I don't think CM winter averages over 5k viewers. Honestly the only DBD streamer I know of who has that is Otz. Unless it's one of the non-English speaking streamers.

@BenZ0 said:
Tunneling, Camping and Slugging is just a thing as doing gens or using dead hard. I dont get it how ppl cry about it, its just childish.
Because they see it as a personal insult. They feel the killer is doing it specifically to ruin their day and get under their skin. Rather than just, you know, trying to win the game as is the point of playing. Meanwhile tbagging at the gates does absolutely nothing to help you win, since you have already won, and it's considered "not a bad thing" and "you need to get over it."
-
It's hard to pick one thing because there's a very long list of things that are essentially the straws that broke the camels back. If I had to pick a single thing that makes me go "Eh, not gonna play killer" it's toxicity, and it being seen as a borderline positive thing by much of the community. We've had multiple threads where people defend BMing and blame those who dislike it rather than those doing it. Being toxic just seem to be what the community wants and I don't care to endure it, so I don't play killer anymore. I'd sooner play with cheaters than toxic people.
Plenty of other things have made me quit. MMR, constant killer nerfs, realization over time on what the developers mindset is, constantly degrading performance of the game, bugs, and overall animosity I often see from the devs toward the playerbase. Sometimes it's honestly a bit unprofessional. Such as the infamous "Play something else." line that came across absurdly cocky and also completely dodged the players question which was "What are you going to do to make killer less stressful?" They also just seem to not care about killer players at all, if not actively disliking them. It's hard to think otherwise when their Christmas gift to killers was "You get nothing special to do for the event. Survivors get a new buff to better beat you. Happy Holidays suckers!"
And it's hard to get excited for anything new. If it's a new killer, I can be confident they will either A. Be garbage on release or B. Be decent/good on PTB and day 1 nerfed to ensure they're not very good. Then they just get entirely forgotten in a week or two like artist. I can't muster up the desire to learn a new killer on release when I know the devs will likely gut them within 3 months. Why waste my time?
I don't even really play survivor either because I don't care to wait 10+ minutes for a game/have to play at 4 am. I really just read up on what's going on with the game now. I barely play it anymore because killer is unfun and honestly feels like you're being abused when you play it, and survivor is generally just boring due to being easy, and takes forever to get into a match. I don't know how long the game can go on like this but behavior tend to be very cocky so I wouldn't expect changes unless VHS or something really starts stealing players. As for what games I have gone to to play instead of DBD? VHS beta and Phasmophobia. VHS is actually quite fun, and the Ghosts in Phasmophobia don't tbag me and insult my mother when I lose.

ah yes, one survivor becoming untouchable because no matter what the killer does to them it's merely a waste of their time too. Want to do the gens in the Killer's face? Want to be the one who does stuff like Pinhead's box? Mr. Reckless Flashlight? Bodyblock Bob? Sure, go ahead, the worst you can suffer is ~wasting the Killer's time~.
I swear, this hard anti-tunnelling crusade is powered by an inability to consider any consequences.
Survivor mains aren't very good at self awareness in my experience.
-
It's whatever for most hooks. I don't think scourge hooks should, though. Or if they do, another hook should become a scourge hook
-
That's just 95% of survivor mains so it's normal. We literally had multiple threads here full of people desperately defending that being toxic is actually a good thing.
-
I have never had an issue with tunneling because it's a legit tactic and sometimes it is the best move the killer can make. I'm not going to get mad at my opponent for not babying me and letting me win. Getting mad at tunneling is the sign of a survivor-only player. Killers who don't tunnel regardless of circumstances are just bad killers.

I don't think that's true- people assume that people playing in a group automatically means that they're on comms, they're exchanging (correct, relevant, tactical) information, they're trying to win...
I see no reason not to assume a huge chunk of SWF players are just mates chilling out with some DBD, and seeing players grouped isn't even a guarantee they're on comms- I've been in groups without comms before, it happens.
The information you'd get from seeing players are in SWF would actually be kinda useless- you could argue that a killer could brace for potentially tougher matches, but since a group of individual competent survivors can be just as rough, you should probably be doing that anyway. It's just not a useful indicator of anything.
I'm not sure how it's useless considering I use such info all the time when I check profiles and see someone is teamed. It would change quite a lot but I get SWF's really don't want it due to fear they'd have longer queues, which is of course not ok to them. "Mates chilling out" are still leagues above SWF because you can actually trust people you know. If my friend is teamed with me, I am fairly confident he will rescue people, rescue me, etc etc even without comms. With randoms I have never met, I know nothing about them and must play assuming they aren't going to do jack.

No it doesn't, cause then swf get little to no matches because most killers will dodge them.
I don't see how that's my issue. People don't want to play against them. Why should you be able to force them?
-
Probably because it would be silly to complain about especially when several other killers are completely neutered by the snowmen. You can't expect it to be a counter to every killer.
-
Most issues people have with SWF could be solved if the devs just let people see who was SWF.
-
It's a mystery why queues are so long for survivors after they got boons, a dead hard "fix", and a special event for themselves. Might be swamp gas reflecting off of Venus, or a weather balloon. We have top men on it.
-
How will random guy ever recover?

@KajdanKi said:
This is casual game so why not having a snowman which protects me from one hit. its funny
Would you feel the same if it made you exposed or made you exhausted all the time?

@kaneyboy said:
So I got downed in a snowman with a basic attack from a legion… is that meant to happen? I thought they took a hit? They hit me out of it and the end of the same hit it downed me..
But I was told this event was just for fun and no one is using it for an advantage. I've also been told you can't use it for an advantage.
-
Adding an event that basically does nothing at all for killers but make their games less fun, and only gives survivors fun things to do, probably wasn't a good idea for trying to alleviate these complaints.
There is some mysterious group of people who also assert the queues are NOT long and everyone is making it up. Even though you could just go to twitch and watch streamers playing survivor and getting long queues. Even the big streamers experience it.

How to say "I do these things" without saying it.

Unless you are nurse blight or spirit, What can you do against a 4stack on comms with all metas on farm?? I don't get it. How can the devs honestly expect people to play a variety of these killers when they are powerless against survivors at top MMR. Seriously. I play nurse and blight and have no issues. The second I choose an M1 or 110 killer Its over.. I can anticipate everything but am powerless to it. Its either super safe tiles or perks that allow survivors multiple chances in one chase. Which is why killers like Nurse who ignore all that stuff or are least affected by it are the killers you see most at high MMR as survivors. So the question I am asking here is how do you compete with all of this as a killer you may like but know is weak?

@turntris said:
That's all there really is to it. This game is so survivor-sided at this point that playing killer just isn't worth the headache and frustration anymore. I used to enjoy playing killer before dead hard validation, constant boons, borrowed time's changes, just everything that has made playing survivor easier. The cherry on top are these stupid snowmen. I'll be inches from a person and they hop into a snowman to tank another hit and make enough distance to start looping again. I feel like BHVR has made all of these changes to make playing survivor more fun since it's the statistically more played role, but they don't take into account that playing killer is just as necessary and needs to feel rewarding. As of now, it feels absolutely dreadful to hit someone, they scream, you go into cooldown, but they pressed Dead Hard on their McDonald's wifi and have now made it to another loop. I'm just sick of feeling like instead of having to outsmart 4 survivors, I have to outsmart 4 survivors and all of the game's second chances to at least get one kill. Am I alone in thinking this?
No, and that's why survivor queues are abysmal now. People do not want to play killer, especially during an "event" that is basically a punishment for 2 weeks. The devs have designed the game so people generally will not want to play killer. Because I guess they forgot both roles are needed for a match. I honestly think we'll see AI Killers/players randomly selected to play killer, before we see meaningful killer buffs for all killers, that brings them on par with survivors.
-
@NatzAshe said:
I say we give the dunce cap to whomever decided that being hit inside the snowman does not damage the survivor within.
Most likely a survivor main on the dev team. Many Survivor mains for some bizzare reason lack the empathy to understand why this event sucks for killers. And the thing is, no one can convince me that if this event could randomly make the survivors exposed or exhausted mid game, while giving them nothing to do or any benefits at all, that this forum would not be on fire with survivor complaints, and rightfully so.
-
So, working as intended then?
-
Tbagging will always be pretty pathetic.
-
Survivors REALLY want this game to die it feels
-
BM is why I also am not going to let up or play "nice." I'm going to play to my fullest rather than play "relaxed" let crappy people beat me, and then think they're good because I was going easy. I'd rather just make them work for it. BMers are the prime reason I'm not going to willingly let the survivors escape because 9 times out of 10 at least one of them will BM at the exit.
Also I think SOME tbag/click is okay during a match, depending on context. It can be a legitimate tool people try to use to distract the killer from a different target. But when it's at the exit gates it's solely just to be a jerk to others.
-
I am so surprised survivors don't want a buff changed. Shocked, even. I have to assume either 1. they are uninformed or 2. They want the extra hit/counter to specific killers for some reason. You will never be able to convince me an event should render multiple killers basically unplayable. Maybe give killers something next year. Like jumping in the snowman=exposed. I am sure survivors won't mind.

BBQ...why?
The aura reading is a bit meh and it's one of the few ways to improve the grind.
I've always felt like people who primarily play survivor or exclusively play it have some weird idea BBQ is an OP perk because it's "meta" for killers. Some people don't get that's it meta not for it's pretty mediocre aura read, but because this game is absurdly grindy and it's the best way to alleviate some of that grind. If anything, the killer is using a so-so perk in terms of match use, in exchange for lessening the grind.

You literally admitted in the OP that he had the basement hooks challenge, and that you were actively avoiding giving it to him by running as far away as possible from the basement.
Seriously, my guy?
Not letting the killer kill you should not be grounds to get literally blocked in a corner and forced to DC. Would it be nice if the survivor let him? Sure. But they don't have to and him not letting the killer do it isn't justification for the killer doing a literal bannable thing in anger.
-
Some people are very bitter about the event basically being non existent for killers.
-
And they also made an event just to screw over one side lol
-
"[Insert killer name] Is OP/Garbage." 2 hours after they release on the PTB.

You don’t need to be a psychologist to know that DBD is a video game and not real life.
There’s no “tough love.” If somebody gets an uncomfortable feeling from being teabagged in a video game, they should be encouraged to see it for the trivial irrelevance that it is. After all, their reaction is the only thing that can give it power in the first place. That’s not “tough love” but common sense.
I sympathise with anyone getting stressed out etc, but it’s on them to change how they react to it.
You aren't a psychologist, so again, I think you shouldn't talk about things you clearly don't have much knowledge in. Your belief people SHOULD deal with something and shouldn't have an issue with it is solely your feeling based on nothing at all but your own belief. I have seen nothing refering actual psychology here. And yes, psychology applies to everything including games.

There is no excuse for camping at 5 gens at any point unless your just like ruining the game for every one. I have had fun playing killer with the event so far. The snowman are cool and with demo I just shred them and so far for me the survivors I hit in the snowman don’t get a speed-boost. A lot of killers have had a great time with the event (maybe not twin mains lol). Even if you don’t like it, camping at 5 gens is just a pathetic play style and there no justifying it unless the survivor was being extremely toxic at the very beginning. Camping in the endgame to secure a kill is find tho that’s not what I’m complaining about.
Yeah the excuse is I'm gonna have fun however I want and since it's not against the rules you really can't stop me?

This wasn’t today it was like a week ago but still. The last camping bubba was drunk (he said he took 8 shots). Just great
I am shocked an event that offers no fun for killers and specifically screws over killers has caused killers to just facecamp for weeks rather than take the brilliant forum advice of "Just don't play this game for weeks!"

I’d say codling the younger generation to such an extreme degree can only set them up for failure. If they aren’t able to cope with random strangers spamming a crouch animation in a video game, especially to the extent that they need it to be removed, they may not be able to deal with all manner of things later in life.
Of course you'd do it in real life too, right? You're not a child psychologist and you should stop pretending you know anything about the subject. No psychiatrist or psychologist would recommend this "tough love" junk to anyone because they're pretty well understood to be extremely unhelpful for developing psyches. A basic book on psychology could teach this. Your belief doesn't have any basis in known studied science from what I can tell.
-
The event isn't meant to be fun for killers.
-
I think it's weird survivors are so heavily against just making it so the snowmen do not tank a hit and you get injured/down. Since no one is using this for an advantage and it's all fun, why would that harm anyone at all?
-
If they don't fix its one sided buff aspect then it just becomes the annual killer vacation time.
-
Probably because the survivor role is hilariously over powered and just got a buff event
-
Yeah it's a BS Buff disguised as an event and the survivor mains here seem to be losing their minds at the prospect of the snowmen being nerfed, which is weird since it would have zero effect on survivors if they are truly using the snowmen just for fun and not for an advantage.
-
@Chocolate_Cosmos said:
Well... then what would you change about the snowmans to be more fair?
As for my own opinion, yes, they can be OP againts some Killers but I don't really care because I play for fun and this event is rly funny for me so far. I try to be more nice and tbagg together snowman Survivors, etc. Pretty funny.
However I will probably avoid playing Twins for 2 weeks.
Don't give an extra damage state? If you get hit, you're damaged or downed. That simple. I don't care if you play to meme around. Fun to me is actually playing the game for real.

From the looks of it you needed one months ago

The competitive scene is full of cheaters (stretch res), there's no real rewards for rank, MMR is based solely on results instead of performance, and high level balance play is purposely skewed to one side. The reaction to all of that from the developers has been a range of emotions from "go play something else if you're frustrated" to "we want to let people troll around in games" into "i dont particularly care about winning or losing myself when i play."
I'm hard pressed to find anything that suggests this game's more competitive than, say, Mario Party, other than its generally darker atmosphere.
---
But you're right, no one has to believe it. I like seeing player's passion anyway.
So when have you played DBD at a party?

It's a party game. If you aren't having fun, go play something else.
If you think my words are dismissive, uncaring to your needs, and ignorant to one side of the game's fun, just remember that I'm re-using the literal words and mindset that the owners and developers of this game have used towards player-based frustrations for years.
---
Best to just buckle up and learn to laugh, or go play Civilization.
It being a party game is your belief. No one else is forced to accept that or believe it. Please understand that.
-
All that matters is survivor fun. Killers are selfish meanies if they expect to have fun and not have an event that does nothing for them and serves as a massive nerf to them/buff to survivors. Why can't killers be like survivor mains who would surely never complain if there was an event where killers basically could get NOED in the middle of a match.
-
@Leachy_Jr said:
Please for the love of god stop making it about balance when people are just trying to have a fun time. An event where you walk around at snails speed in a snowman in the entities realm is not to be taken seriously.
If you have that much of an issue balance-wise about snowmen, feel free to use Bubba or STBFL which gives stacks when hitting them.
Please just have fun.
Maybe design an event that's fun for both sides? You don't get to defecate in my cereal and then scream I should be happy and having fun with it because you are. Killers aren't having fun because the event is unfun for them and several killers are completed countered by it. Why are you shocked killers are having no fun with such an event? An event that gives survivors extra health states, negates Ghost faces exposed, negates Victor, Negates Legions power etc is not something too many killers are going to love outside of masochists.
If you want people to only play for fun then the event should have been a separate optional game mode rather than encroaching on the actual game. Not everyone cares about events.
