Personally I think representation should be a character who isn't defined by one specific trait but many of them together. Considering barely anyone knows Chatterer is lgbt+ he unironically fits the box- he isn't defined by the one specific trait but by a lot of movie appearances and the fact he's a Cenobite.

It isn't perfect, since again, Cenobite, but it's actually far from the worse form of "Stereotype Mc.Stereotype"

This: "Personally I think representation should be a character who isn't defined by one specific trait but many of them together" Is something that I can fully agree on. I'm sick of seeing 1-dimensional characters who exist to fill a representation quota. But with being said, Chatterer is not even close to the representation you are looking for.

He is not human. He holds no human values. There is nothing about him that can be recognisable as human. Saying that he counts as LGBT- etc representation because in his lore he was human once.

Oh yeah, it isn't the best form of representation known to mankind but it's still an lgbt+ character, alongside Look-See, Birch, and Mordeo, bringing our total up to 4.

And none of them were made by BHVR but I'm still hoping one day

What kind of representation are you vouching for if it groups up regular, everyday people with horrific monsters driven by sadomasochism?

i think it cause chatterer and like the other cenobites used to be human. tho i think sexuality and gender was thrown out the door after they lost themselves to whatever makes the cenobites.

Exactly my point! They're not human anymore. Therefore, they cannot represent anything that is human.

As I am not familiar with the comics, I don't know for certain what OP is talking about, but the Cenobites are considered demons/angels by most people although in their own lore they used to be humans that were transformed through a torturous transformation ritual.

@VioletCrimes Who this monster was before being transformed doesn't matter. They're a cenobite now. Something that is distinctly non-human and cannot have human concepts such as gender and sexuality applied to them.

    There is no representation here.

  • @gatsby said:

In the lore of Hellraiser, the person that turned into the Cenobite Chatterer is LGBT+

Wow the representation finally happened through a legendary cosmetic of a character that wasn't created by Behavior. You love to see it?

What are you talking about? It's a demon/angel from hell/heaven. Did someone unironically listen to the mortally challenged line from Doom Eternal and start including interdimensional monsters as a minority group??

He clearly did if you jumped on a random discussion just to crap on him.

The best part about all this is that I don't even really care about Trickster - I appreciate the character from a creative standpoint and their masterful ability to blend flamboyance with slasher horror, but I mostly just like pissing people off by baiting people with Trickster mentions and watching the clearly offended people go out of their way to shite on the character and anyone who doesn't pretend he's the worst thing since [INSERT SECONDARY PERSONAL GRIEVANCE]

As the conversation between you and Sweet_Tour spirals ever deeper into a shouting match, I thought I would like to state a point against Trickster's addition to the game that's more reasonable. How he performs in the game itself.

Not only is his power horribly 1-dimensional but its effectiveness is entirely based on what part of the map you're in. Are you in a narrow corridor with no cover? You get a free injure or down. Are you near a loop with lots of LoS breakers? Enjoy the next minute of running around in circles before you even scratch the survivor.

There's very little actual threat that comes from facing a Trickster unless you're caught out in a bad position. And when you are caught its often more frustrating for the survivors compared to facing a killer such as Huntress, who has to predict and aim her throws, whereas the brainless knife-spam that Trickster outputs often feels cheap. And it feels cheap because of how little input the Trickster player needs to down you.

So it would stand to reason that people would start disliking other things about him, like his appearance, if his core-gameplay loop isn't enjoyable to begin with.

  • @Shaped said:

It seems fun and even rewarding but I dunno. It is the same to me as going for flashlight saves. I would rather not waste time and do gens instead.

I know stuns can cause a massive blow to killers momentum but unless you are a pro with it you can also fail and you could have done a gen instead.

I understand having fun. People should play how they want. I just don't see it very optimal when it comes to average users.

But with flashbangs you have to do gens before you can go for saves. Seems more productive than hovering around your team mates with a flashlight doesn't it?

  • @CashelP14 said:

You forgot to include Flashbang locker saves. These are extremely easy to do and work a lot more consistently than Flashlights. Even the killers who are impossible to save against at lockers (PH, Blight and Demo) you can get these saves with.

Although I haven't had much of a chance to do these, they're just another use of many of the glorious flashbang! Thanks for reminding me.

  • Why do discussions about the characters of this game always turn into arguments about identity? What is there to be gained about yet another comment thread about subjective beauty added to the dozens that already went over the exact same thing?

I feel that this topic always ends up going in circles with nothing productive being said. So what if the game doesn't fit an arbitrary counter for people with a specific race/gender/sexuality or attractiveness? The only people who this even matters for are the artists at Behaviour who have to create the characters.

The inane demand for more X,Y and Z traits to be more represented seem to be based more on what the individual stating the argument personally wants to see. Compared to making interesting characters. Because making well designed fictional characters has nothing to do with meaningless factors such as how they conform to the current standard of beauty. But by what unique idea constitutes their existence.

Now with all of that out of the way, I'd personally like to see an Egyptian or Medieval knight based killer.

  • I agree. It's a bizarre limitation of his power that otherwise has pretty solid design. Even if you were to camp with it, you'd still have to be near the survivor hit with the chain to get value out of it.

But at least Pinhead's buffs seem nice.

  • They're mostly just "meh".

Secondwind is easily the most useful out of all of them. The time saved after being unhooked is great if the killer is nearby and decides to tunnel. Even if getting a full heal before getting hooked is a bit uncommon.

Babysitter is very situational. It requires the killer to not be undetectable, (as it stops the aura reading), and to not be too close to the hook, and for the survivor you saved to start running away instead of being healed. Not too useful most of the time from my experience.

Camaraderie is completely useless unless your team mates don't know how to unhook. It only shines if you're in a game where people loop around the hook and don't lure the killer away.

Overall, I think they need some buffs.

  • I'm out of the loop. What are the changes to Hex: Crowd Control?

I mean just by virtue of posting about it instead of just playing a different game says something.

But I have been. I just finished a session and was pondering what to do next. I thought of dbd and its latest update and wanted to share what I was thinking. Can I not do that?

  • @lucid4444 said:

You're addicted, which is why it feels like that. It's okay to take a break or even never play the game again. It's just a game, and if you're not having fun with it then find something better to do with your time!

I'd hardly call myself addicted. I've been playing the game sparsely since Trickster came out and every update since then has caused me to play the game even less. I'm just at the point where I see no reason to keep playing.

  • @MadLordJack said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2301140#Comment_2301140

Because there's significantly more important issues in DbD that the limited resources of this development team should be used for.

And what is the likelihood of those things, (balance, bug fixing, etc), actually being fixed?

The things I'm complaining about have the exact same chance of being addressed, I think.

  • @MadLordJack said:

Okay, what exactly were you expecting? This is an extremely underfunded game with oversight that doesn't care and a Dev team that doesn't fix any serious issues, and you're genuinely complaining... About voice lines.

I'm just glad they have unique voice lines. I half expected them to be copied from other survivors.

You answered your own question. This game has issues and the devs don't care to fix most of them. Why shouldn't I complain?

  • @Elena said:

"you can't seriously think-" according to you I'm joking so...

What? Nothing I said implied that I thought you were joking. I did imply that you were wrong in thinking that the Claire in dbd sounds in character because I just gave evidence of how she actually sounds. And it's as far away from dbd Claire as a steam engine is from sounding like a Blue Jay.

  • @HP150 said:

I've only recently gotten into the main-line Resident Evil games. But I've played enough to know that none of the characters we have in dbd sound correct.

Nice. Welcome to the series. The voice actors and character appearances / models notoriously change from game to game (Leon is probably the most consistent appearance wise and even he has had 5 different English voice actors portray him throughout the series).

Just recently, Chris Redfield's voice in the latest entry "Resident Evil Village" used the exact same voice actor of the secondary-protagonist of Resident Evil 3 Remake (which he does not appear in), which was released just a year earlier. Same vocal inflection / mannerism and everything. Very noticeable.

Like I said, voices aren't very consistent throughout the series. Hell, if you want a real trip take at look at how Chris Redfield basically bodymorphs between games:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/PUGBA21I7O5X/q4yebxvqsme21.jpg

And that doesn't even include his latest appearance, spin-offs, or movie appearances.

That's trippy as hell. He seems to become a different person every other game. What is the reason behind his constant re-designs?

  • @Elena said:

I guess it's subjective, but imo, Claire sounds more in character the most, especially compared to Jill.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AA7KLO87ThA A video of the voice actor of Claire Redfield in Resident Evil 2 reacting to stuff.

Even with the mic she's using at the time, you can't seriously think that the version we have in game sounds anything like her.

  • @Jivetalkin13 said:

I mean...they just grunt and scream. Not much of a paycheck. Plus, they paid for the likeness of the characters and there would be extra costs to pay they voice actors.

What a terrible excuse. Do you seriously think that Behaviour, the small indie dev company that it is, couldn't afford the voice actors if they wanted to? I want professional screams of pain and terror! Not screams that imply the person is enjoying it.

  • I have also noticed this. 9/10 times the person drops the grenade right in front of me and completely wastes it.

I've had a chance to use them myself and discovered that flashbangs are actually pretty useful if you know how to use them. You should drop them around corners just before the killer turns them and when certain killers are about to use their power. Nurse, Huntress, Pyramid Head, and others that have to look at you are prime targets for the flashbang if you time it well.

  • You've managed to reach Tier 4 Madness.

Imagine running these super boring perks if you could just use Lethal Persuer instead 😤

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/7TOX90BT46H3/zombomeme-22062021015147.jpg

My favourite build on him at the moment is the Iridescent Blight Tag and Shredded Notes with Lethal Persuer. It's so much fun to insta-down someone not even 10 seconds into a game. Even if it is map dependant.

  • Its obligatory meme add-on would turn it into a Rolls Royce.

  • @CoalTower said:

Thanks! I'm definitely going to use those add-ons.

Also, I'd recommend Bamboozle for him.

I feel like you can get away without using Bamboozle because your tentacle can reliably hit people who are in a vaulting animation. Just make sure to windup before you reach the window or pallet and you should hit them if they don't quickly swerve away.

  • @TheGorgon said:

Really good guide. In red ranks, I’ve done pretty darn well with him. I’d like to mention that CI is actually not bad at all on him and serves his early game mismatches.

He does need buffs though and I’m surprised you didn’t mention Marvin’s Blood. That’s, in my opinion, his best add on because it basically triples the amount of mutation you get.

Fully agree on the perks. I’m currently running BBQ, STBFL, Ruin, POP/Corrupt.

I think he needs a base kit nerfed version of Marvin’s blood, his bracelet being base, and no sprint burst after the initial contamination.

I didn't mention it because mutation can be ignored once you reach tier 2. The extra meter of range is nice but not worth attempting to hit people with the tentacle's tiny hit-box when you can just punch them.

It's better to run stuff for the zombie's view distance and speed.

  • @Heartbound said:

That's a really good guide, good job!

I just wanna toss in that tonight I had a lot of fun with Nemesis running a Devour Hope / Ruin / Starstruck / Nurses Calling build. People expect a three hit chase but a lot of the time Jimbo just got sent straight to the shadow realm.

That actually sounds like a great build to use the with Serotonin Injector. I might try it sometime.

  • Aye.

I could pretty much stop there. Almost everything in this post is 100% accurate. And It echo the frustrations that a vast majority of the playerbase has been having.

A shame then, that the devs will continue to ignore everything in it. And the problems in this game will continue to go unfixed. Because despite all of the problems they won't address their income will keep rolling in.
  • I agree that Legion, as they are now, is by far one of the worst designed and least threatening killers in the game. There's no arguing against that. Some people can still like them anyway. But that won't magically change the standard of what years of evolution has baked into our brains as "a threat".

What I will argue is that the concept of Legion still has potential. If their power was controlling and/or placing Legion members around the map strategically then I think they'd become not only much more interesting to play as and against, but they'd also finally get that menace factor they've been missing for so long.

A single teenager with a knife isn't much of a threat. But 4 teenagers with knives flanking you and coordinating together could be very scary!

  • I play him every so often when I'm a bit tired of Blight. Apparently some of the skills transfer over because I usually do very well with him.

I had no idea Billy's were so rare though. The overheat nerf really discouraged people from using him didn't it?

  • Only if you wish to learn a whole new definition of Suffering.

  • @shalo said:

So you just need the equivalent of 66% of one gen's worth of repairs to activate it and I guess that can be spread across several gens.

I'm not crazy in thinking that "After repairing Generators for a total of 66%" is not clear at all, right?

It seems pretty clear to me. 100% of something is all of it. So 66% is just; "Repair a gen for just over half of its total progress".

  • Pretty much as Pulsar said. Something to note, the perk only counts repairs made by yourself. Helping another survivor with a gen will not make the perk activate faster.

  • @brokedownpalace said:

You mean a direct hit with the bottle or they are unaffected when the bottle explodes next to them?

Direct hits and the bottle going off near them doesn't seem to slow them down. If the gas has been around for a while then it usually slows them like normal.

  • @GannTM said:

WAIT YOURE TELLING ME I 4KED ON HADDONFIELD WITH A BUGGED CLOWN????????

Yep. Pat yourself on the back.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

Eruption does not cause the Generator to regress, it only damages it (which is good, otherwise that would be a bit overkill off-comms given a 30s cd). Could pair it with Surge though (albeit Surge only effects nearby gens).

It does cause them to regress. But only if no survivor was repairing them when the perk was activated.

  • I think Pop is stronger on its own. But combining the 2 perks, especially if you happen to get a 3-gen, is super powerful.

  • Party Streamer Noise

  • I should have clarified. I was referring to Counterforce. Which is basically a better version of small game.

  • @MadLordJack said:

It's certainly not meta on non-mobile killers, that's still Ruin/Undying.

Or, and this one excites me, Lethal Pursuer/Corrupt Intervention.

With the addition of Small Game 2.0, I think that totem builds will likely die down a bit. The RNG of even having them in a good spot won't matter if a survivor can keep cleansing and finding out where the rest are.

How would running 2 perks that both have limited effects before being deactivated permanently become meta? You might make space for 1. But running 2 would cause half your build to be deleted after the timer runs out.

  • I've figured out why Nemesis' hitbox is so janky!

The blue line you see when he attacks is not the actual range of his attack. It is a separate tracer created alongside his attack hitbox. Said hit-box will also stop short if it hits something before a survivor, in the example its a pallet, even though the animation and aforementioned tracer imply that it should go further. It's super misleading and creates a lot of times where it seems that you attack straight through survivors.

They really need to fix it.

  • Clown's power randomly breaks and doesn't slow down survivors. Either by walking in the gas or getting hit by the bottle directly.

  • Nothing seems to be changed about his rushing.

Although his still has a massive problem of sliding off half the stuff in any given map.

Lmao balance of the game? What balance of the game? I'm playing a red ranks, "supposedly" the highest level of play in the game

I've literally seen NOBODY use franklins to counter keys, it's such a waste of time to do. Just win the game stupid lmao.

Who cares if one person escapes? Are you that desperate for a 4K?

Ranks are a poor way to measure skill. It only shows how much time you've spent playing the game. Just because you personally haven't seen people bring Franklins doesn't mean in any way that no one is using it.

I predict this thread is going to be locked soon.

    1. Most people ran it solely to counter keys. Something that the nerf completely removed.
    2. Just because you don't like people that care about the balance of the game doesn't give you the right to be condescending about it.

Its a weird one for sure. There's a lot of killer perks that I feel become instantly non-viable on half the roster thanks to this limitation. Surge is a perfect example. Imagine if you snipe someone with Huntress and break multiple gens from 32M from the down, for example.

I think it'd open more potentially viable perk builds for certain killers.

It's funny that you bring up that Nurse can use all these perks when she has by far the strongest power in the game, yet the reason they don't let certain killers use them is "cUs bAlAncE". Would it really be the end of the world if Demo could proc Sloppy on his Shred? No, probably not.

But then theres the trade off of they'd probably make a perk like STBFL count every attack including powers and thus the perk would become worse on certain killers.

To copy my point from GoodBoyKaru, I think it would be way better to have synergy with many perks than just 1. I'm honestly a bit sick of STBFL because there doesn't seem to be any reason not to run it on certain killers. And I find it makes the perk boring after a certain number of games.

  • @GoodBoyKaru said:

To be fair them not having basic attacks also gives them amazing synergy with STBFL

But it sucks for build diversity. There's no reason not the run the perk on certain killers. Until Demo got his new Black Heart add-on it was almost mandatory on him. Wouldn't it be better to consider running a whole selection of perks than just 1?

1 … 6 7 8 9 10 … 23
