Just to show the actual values here.
Swing Chains plus Jump Rope end up being a 12% maximum slowdown if everyone is asleep. That adds around 10 seconds to generators, making it 90 seconds to complete a generator. I don't think that is really daunting at all. Mostly placebo.
I doubt people run Thanatophobia on Freddy since there are much better perks, but if he gets everyone injured with thana, that is another 20% slowdown (16 seconds on a gen). Combined with the slowdown addons, he ends up adding 26 seconds to gens, 106 seconds total. This could be oppressive if he runs Pop as well.
However, you could counter this build by waking up to suffer no slowdown from his addons, and not getting injured / taking healing perks to deny thanatophobia.
EDIT: fixed values.
You "doubt" people run Freddy with Thana?
Obviously you don't play survivor, because Freddy almost always runs Thana. There are three killers in this game where Thanatophobia is part of the basic kit. They are Legion, Plague and Freddy. Almost all of them run Thana. It's optional on every other killer.
I love how killers love to downplay an extra 10 seconds on gens like it's nothing, but a toolkit that shaves off 10 seconds is OP so they had to have it nerfed to be useless.

Because he isn't that strong. There's not really a simple answer with him.
It's not so much a power strength issue as it is a power synergy issue against average to below average survivors. His power synergizes incredibly well with passive slowdowns, and his add ons stack as additional passive slowdown. He's completely carried by this aspect. Otherwise he's Clown with a teleport on a cooldown. Freddy is arguably not even top 5 in a competitive environment. He struggles to down good players.
I'd argue that his perceived strength is more a symptom of the extreme inefficiency of most solo survivors. Gen speeds are ridiculously slow for the most part even at red ranks. Freddy just turns that up to the Nth degree.
"Otherwise he's Clown with a teleport on a cooldown."
You say that as if it were a bad thing. Clown is a strong killer in chase and his only real problem is lack of map pressure. Freddy is basically clown with map pressure. And gen slowdown built in to boot.
This isn't about "perceived strength" the numbers do not lie. Freddy is a strong killer because he has a very high kill rate even at red ranks where all the strong players are. The only perception here is from people like you who perceive Freddy as a weak killer for whatever reason. The actual objective truth is that Freddy is a strong killer.

Did not know keys could still open the hatch after the killer closed it, I'll have to keep that in mind. Bravo.
I actually play this way a lot, most of my satisfaction from this game comes from opening chests. That's why I play Plunderers + Ace in the Hole, it's like opening lootboxes, it's exciting to see if you get junk like a toolbox or gold like a key.
The most ideal result is to fish a key during the match, be the last one standing, killer closes the hatch and patrols the gates while you go to the hatch and jump in. I very rarely get to do this because I don't play like a complete #########, I play normally and help out with gens and unhooks after I'm done opening chests (which itself is hugely inefficient). I don't always last until the end because I don't hide and throw the rest of the team under the bus. It's part of my own private game and keeps the game exciting.
-
Once I had a wraith kill everyone else but me. Then he found the hatch, stealthed and camped it.
When I got to the hatch he was standing right on top of it, so I couldn't get in. Then he kicks the hatch closed in my face and decloaks.
As he does I take out the key I fished from the chest right beneath where he stood and jumped in the hatch.
I bet he left the endgame chat instantly so he wouldn't have to bear with my gloating.
-
Crossplay off isn't hard mode. It's no game mode.
Turning off crossplay makes matchmaking take forever.
I don't find it any harder to play. Just harder to play. (find a game)

So I took a short break from DBD and have been enjoying other games but I've recently came back. I get on to play a few rounds of killer and the salt I have in my messages is unreal. I've played a long time so salty messages aren't a new thing, but they've become excessive. I'm talking after every single match. No, I don't camp or tunnel. That playstyle makes no sense to me. I've been accused of doing those things but I think that's survivor talk for "I'm mad you killed me." Don't take that the wrong way, I'm not saying you or anyone else are like that but my experience lately has been nothing but survivors filling my inbox whining about something. It's either my choice of killer, the perks I ran, the addons I had, my playstyle, or just simply playing the game when they thought I should let them go. It used to be funny but it's getting annoying. I don't wanna turn off messages but I may have to. Does it seem like the toxicity has gotten worse for anyone else? Survivors who message the killer, why do you think that's a good idea?
This isn't a knock on all survivors, just my experience. I will say when I'm playing survivor and my team does well not 1 killer has messaged me regardless of my perks or how I played.
No I don't have any issues with salt. Occassionally someone will post crap in the aftergame chat. Happens maybe once a week or so. Not a big deal and not worse than it was before.
-
Not that common. I've had maybe 5 of these matches in the 2000 hours I've been playing. Blatant obvious hackers like that are rare.
I'm more concerned with the "non-obvious" hackers, like the ones using wallhacks.

There's a slew of second chance perks that are just on a completely other level of power compared to all other perks which in turn makes them cloud out all other options from looking decent. That's one of the main issues.
Not saying we should do this, but hypothetically if all the second chance perks like DS, BT, Unbreakable DH ect didn't exist we would see a much larger variety of perks being used.
Second chance perks in this game have needed to be reigned in hard for years.
Removing these perks from the equation works, but opens up a whole new slew of problems. The first issue is that getting hooked is now basically a death sentence. There's no anti tunneling defense whatsoever and there's nothing for anti-camping or slugging. But that is actually the smaller issue.
The main problem is that those three are the main ways a killer can gain a time advantage outside of genslowdown. And on the flipside those three perks are the main perks that affect how a survivor can gain a time advantage over the killer.
Removing those perks needs major rebalancing around it, and basically means the removal of all perks that grant time advantage to both sides. The crap perks that do nothing for time advantage aren't used because the perks that grant time advantage are too precious and strong. Mechanically it's a problem where perks that significantly affect the main objective of both sides, are the only ones that matter in the game.
That's why no matter how much you buff Dark Sense or Monstrous Shrine, nobody is ever going to use them. They are just too far removed from how the game is played.
The overall mechanics need a significant overhaul. But I agree that the main second chance perks should be nerfed heavily or removed, along with all the time advantage perks in the game like Prove Thyself, DS, every Exhuastioin Perk, Ruin, Thanatophobia, NoEd, etc. But then if you do that the game gets a lot more boring. So mechanic overhaul is the better solution.

Its still better having the rift than not. I dont agree with all rift challenges some imo promote bad play/toxic behaviour but before the rift grinding BP was even harder. Its not perfect but its better than without
That depends. Some people get burnt out because of the rift. When they would have been happily playing the game at a much more casual pace if they weren't stressed out trying to finish it.
-
IMO it should be removed and we revert to what came before, which was far superior.

Only killers who are bad at the game say that.

Many thanks. I don't need the BP but I got it anyway.

I know I will not change your mind but the real problem with DS is that this perk, especially at high lvl, is used like an invincibility time to do objectives. Atm it punish mostly fair killers for being too efficient (this efficiency is sometimes caused by survivors poor playing/mismatched), meaning that even if you hook 1 or 2 surv between, you may have to eat it tho you tried your best to play fair and let them a chance.
Also don't fool yourself, DS will not protect you against real tunneler, a real tunneler dont care at all, he will eat it and go chase you as soon as the 5s stun fade, that why its called like that => tunnel vision.
Then hit him and he stops doing objectives. Why is that so hard?
And if you're so good taht you can hook 2 survivors in 1 minute, then why are you even complaining? You for sure steamrolled that match if you can down 3 survivors in less than a minute.
-
They just salty because they can't get 4K and blame it on the meta perks. Don't worry about it.
Survivors also get killed and can't escape so they blame it on meta perks like Ruin, Pop, etc.

@BioX said:
Look I dont want to speak for everyone, and fact is that there are still about 30 - 40k players on steam at any given time so maybe im the weird one here BUT:
In Warframe, they added a similair thing to the rift a while ago called nightwaves, now you cant buy your way through that one so maybe that is already where I got my answer BUT:
In warframe the idea behind it is to give players something to do, to make them come back and play a bit hopefully every day but there is almost zero pressure as you have pleeeeenty of time to do the objectives so its just something extra to work towards while you play the game.
In DBD however the grind is real, there is pressure, I feel I have to play the game an ungodly amount to reach the end in time and the result is just a complete burn out, I have not touched dbd since I finished the last rift and I wont touch it probably until the next one starts, which yeah is decent down time but....does this mean that this game's rift and warframes "rift" have a completely different point to them?
If the rift was not this grindy I would probably play the game relaxed every day instead of playing an unresonable amount and then just be burned out and honestly kinda hating the game (more then usual that is) and thus not playing at all.
Battlepass has never been something "to give players something to do."
It has always been about getting people to fork money over.
In DBD the rift is a tedious grind meant to force you to complete (and potentially buy) the battlepass. The main way to progress in the Battlepass is to do rift challenges. Ad because the battlepass is timelimited, this gives you intense pressure to finish it.
In Warframe Nightwaves is extra objectives, if they "expire" they are put in reserve and you can do them at your leisure. That's why you feel a lot less pressure.
-
Either you nerf meta perks or you buff non-meta perks.
That's the only way to encourage different loadouts.
Also basic game mechanics need to change. Because of the basic gameplay design (bust gens to escape, hook survivors to kill them, looping/camping/slugging as the main way to gain time advantage) perks, items and abilities that affect gen speed, chase and hooking/slugging are going to be more powerful bu nature.
Without chanting these two things meta will always be as stale and stagnant as it has been for the last 4 years.

I understand why people come to this opinion but I don't understand why people push it on others and make fun of or attack the other side.
Please comment why you think it happens below
System Wars has been a part of video gaming since the 80's. Is normal.
Expecting gamers from different tribes to get along is silly. We like to attack the "other tribes" it's fun and it's part of gaming culture and human nature itself. Humans are tribal beings by nature.
Also LOL at console gamers thinking they're better than PC gamers. LOL whatever PC Master Race sorry not sorry.

I tend to get Ruin games quite often, so it has at least activated almost every game. I tend to play with SWF, so I'm picked up most of the time, allowing myself to take a hit while having Endurance.
I'm like Darktrix.
I get Ruin all the time, in like 90% of all games. But I have almost never gotten any mileage out of Soul Guard.
I just don't think it's that good a perk. It's too situational and most of the time killer is not going to slug you. If they slug you normally it's when Ruin already broke. I gave this perk a chance but I stopped using it some time back.
-
Cheryl, easily.
Because you can't get Cheryl with Shards. Use Auric to get Cheryl, use Shards to get Blight. That said, why use Auric? Just buy the chapter in Steam. It's cheaper and you get PH to boot.

Something that controls the lighting. IE a killer power that causes blackouts on the map where you use fire barrels, lanterns, flashlights and an on cooldown extra ability it gives each survivor to temporarily give light around them.
Why would a killer want to make the map darker?
-
The only killer power I want is John Carpenter's The Thing.
It has the ability to turn into the player model of any survivor in the match and loses terror radius and stain when it does, and can pretend to work on gens, totems, open chests, etc. (no progress is done and actually regresses any progress but Survivor won't see the regression) but can't attack survivors in this form. Has slight delay to revert back to monster mode to hit survivors similar to Wraith uncloak. In monster form it has a ranged tentacle attack. Not super long range and nothing over the top.

He has a longer range of hit box than other killers in the game. His pointy fingers seem to give him extendo arms and still hits me when I vault anything. His dream snares are annoying and unfun to play against him in general. Being oblivious causes a lot of issues. Can’t predict where he is. He just M1’s you and then stops chase so you have to waste time healing when you could work on a gen. Not to mention gen slowdown build on Freddy is insane. Adding that to him just makes it unfun. Ruin / Undying / Freddy = GG
I just quit when I get him because what’s the point
What a necro.

I get that some Killer are faster than other.
But why specificly are killer like Hag, who is not a high tier killer like billy, slower paced
i mean yea her traps kind of make it unnecessary but she needs to run around to place them in the first place, if there is no trap while she chases it makes it harder for her to catch up and placing them mid chase just gives the survivor a chance to run away and she only has 10 to set up before she starts recycling them. i know this is kind of vague but i don´t want to write a novel so i hope you get my point.
on the other Hand Billy for example has a higher pace... but why?
he literally has a chainsaw to run around and before you all go on to enlight me with the information that his chainsaw can overheat, which i know. It just seems to me it would make it more valuable to decide to run around with the chainsaw or downing a survivor.
To make it clear i don´t think that way about these killer specificly but rather that Obvious low tier killer as well as Obvious high tier Killer should get adjustments regarding their speed. It could make just the difference to make some killer more attractive to play.
Since when were you under the impression that Hag isn't high tier?
Hag is one of the most powerful killers in the game. Same with Huntress and Deathslinger, slow killers but two of the strongest in the game.
The speed differences are done out of consideration as balance for the killer's powers. They are sensible for the most part. Killers with weaker powers tend to have higher movement speed to compensate.

The buff for Fixated was honestly the most embarassing one.
They really needed 1,5 years to realize that it should also work when injured?
Even though that was the same problem with urban evasion?
Their changes are waaaaaay too slow and in most cases just pretty underwhelming in my opinion.
BHVR's game design sense is pretty embarassing to be honest. But I give them credit for creating a really fun genre.
-
Frankly I think all meta perks should be nerfed.
DS, Unbreakable, DH, Ruin, Pop, BBQ, etc.
All of them need to be gutted to be as amazing as Camarederie, Monstrous Shrine, No One Left Behind, This is not Happening, etc.
Then we'd have a really fun game.

@Blueberry said:
People still sleeping on WGLF. Nearly one person running it and slugging for the match is nearly nonviable.
When people complain about slugging it just shows they don't play killer almost at all. Slugging is required to win against good survivors.
Literally just pick up and hook time is more than half an entire gen..every time you down someone...let that sink in. Roughly 15 seconds for a pick up and hook x3 other survivors, that's 45 seconds of gen time the other survivors gained.
Love that hyperbole. You have to multiply it by three to get your narrative across.
-
@Klakky said:
Because killers r forced to slug at end for 4k otherwise they get easy hatch, that's how the game works
There is a slugging epidemic right now.
Basically standard load out is either Nurse, Huntress, Freddy or Spirit. Perks are usually some combination of: Ruin, Surveillance, Infectious, Knockout, Thanatophobia, Stridor
Killer will go and slug from the start and it's not uncommon to see games end with 4-5 gens not yet done.

Cry some more and please learn to play without Ruin for a change so you learn some actual skills.
@gendoss said:
As a survivor main I don't think anything will be problematic after the undying nerf.
Tbh I never thought undying was the problem it was more ruin. The fact that the killer can regress gens double the speed the survivors repair them at while not even pressuring that hard is kinda bonkers ngl, the problem is only exacerbated by undying, but even without it ruin can still a god-like perk.
I just typically run ruin + pop anyway it's much more consistent.
This actually. Undying wasn't really the problem. Ruin is the actual problem. Ruin is far too strong for a single perk. Undying just made it worse but the real issue in that equation was Ruin. Guess what killers. Ruin is still pretty strong and if you need something to help you win Ruin is what you need to run. It's been that way for years and it's still that way even after the Ruin nerf.

Maybe I need to do more research on MMR.
This is how MMR works in theory.
If you win a lot you go up in ELO, and face similar players with high ELO as well, so your skill levels will be pretty close. If you can't hack it at that level of play you will lose, lowering your ELO, and you go down and match with players who were not as good as the ones that destroyed you. Inversely, if you are playing against people far beneath you and smash them, your ELO goes up and you fight against people with better skills. You will eventually find your perfect spot in the pecking order because that's how actual MMR works. If you aren't at the top you'll need to suck it up and realize you're not as good as you thought you were. And if you're at the bottom you need to learn to get better.
In reality, BHVR can't implement a proper MMR system if a psychopath held a gun to their heads. In all likelihood MMR won't work at all and we'll just see random mixed rank matches all throughout our DBD lives.

Ruin is weak. The only reason we see it so much is because of Undying, that’s it. Once undying is nerfed Ruin is gone. It doesn’t do enough for how little time it’s going to last after patch.
Really no.
In the last few weeks since the Undying nerf was announced kilers have experimented and stopped using Undying but still use Ruin. It's still a very powerful perk that does a lot and literally wins games for the killer many times. And I'd say about 90% of my games for hte past two weeks had Ruin but no Undying and Ruin made a huge difference in 75% of the games.
I'd be extremely happy if we don't see Ruin anymore after the Undying nerf, but I seriously, seriously doubt that.
-
Why is that bad design?
If you can't handle SWF Command Squad gameplay MMR will drop you below it if you keep losing.
Sounds good.
-
No, it only counts for live surivvors. A dead survivor is already a huge advantage no need to rub salt in the wound.

@Mikeasaurus said:
Because most killers will just up and dodge when they see a survivor holding a key and if they don't dodge, then they can bring Franklins. Doing a switch at the last second stops the killer having enough time to equip Franklins to defend against it, and it's pretty much going into the loading screen at that point.
Franklin's isn't an issue. Why should you be afraid of Franklin's? Super easy to counter with key strategy and it weakens the killer severely by giving up a precious perk slot for a junk perk.
The real issue with showing a key in the lobby is that the killer will bring a pink mori, a pink hatchet, a purple amulet, a pink finger, a green topknot, or purple green breath. When you have a key in the lobby the game goes into hardmode and killer slugs you and will use the worst possible builds to destroy you.
-

As the title says.
Tbh I never understood why anyone would change last second to a character with a key or just equip a key last second.
I can understand that you were afraid to get moried, but that has changed now yet I still see it happen.
Are you not certain about your playstyle in chases or something?
If any, when survivors switch last second to a key I see them getting tunnelled and camped most of the time.
By not have the courage to equip it right from the start instead of at the last second.
I am genuinely curious why this is still a thing.
Mori isn't the only problem in this game.
In 100% of games where I bring in a key killer will switch to Freddy, Nurse, Spirit or Huntress and bring most broken loadout possible and play 100% super sweaty slugging and going for the throat.
Bringing a key in = hard mode. This is a fact.
Switching the key in at least makes it so it's not hard mode, but instead tunnel face camp mode. Which is preferable by far. And if you drop the key off somewhere sometimes the killer takes it easy.

😂 Stop. You lost me at....”Aggressive wiggling.” Then you complain about “mods“ and “possible cheats.” Stop it.
It is easier to play huntress/nurse/slinger on PC. So, you will find more players that can play those killers well. It doesn’t mean that PC is better than console. It doesn’t mean that console is better than PC. It takes a little more practice on console (blinking, for example, requires being much more precise on a controller). But that doesn’t really equate to skill.
ive played against very good console and PC killers. Whoever started this console PC thing is just dumb. The ONLY time this applies is on Switch (always, try playing on 15-22 fps, wear tapping for your movement like an old arcade game is how you move effectively) and last gen base consoles, at certain moments.
None of that has to do with skill. The devs branched out to consoles, with no idea on how to optimize a game for console. The Switch release was a pure money grab. A lot of their moves are related to that btw.
Well to be fair, they have no idea how to optimize, period. For a game with such simple graphics, small maps and low actor count this game performs terribly. Graphics aren't as good as, say, Shadow of Mordor (which came out about a year earlier I think) in terms of effects, lighting, geometry, and size but Shadow of Mordor on Ultra pushes 120 fps on my computer, this game can only manage about 90fps on Medium.
And lol at "Aggressive Wiggling" it is not harder to wiggle on gamepad than on PC.

Time to play Doctor I guess
Legion and Doctor are the best ways to combat stealth. Then use the whole plethora of add-ons and perks if you still can't find survivors keep practicing. Since the rework Doctor's not as good against stealth as he used to be but still top tier at revealing survivors.

Ruin is just still too good. It does far too much for a single perk.
There's a reason why like 90% of games have it.
It's like Decisive Strike. Even after being nerfed it's still more powerful than most other options.
It fell out of favor for a bit after the nerf because people were reacting to the nerf, so the meta moved towards CI and Pop after the buff, but people have realized since that Ruin is still top dog.
