Honestly at this point I'm convinced those Blights are produced in a factory as they're all the same. Same perks, same addons, same *cough* playstyle, same attitude if the match is remotely close. Didn't expect myself to ever hate Blight almost as much as Nurse but here I am...
Honestly,4 slowdown Twins are even worse.Slugging until everyone bleeds out after like 30 minutes :>
Idk,people suddenly seem to believe that MMR started some kind of tournament in which the winner gets everything they are wishing for and sweating as much as humanly possible

As killer I haven't noticed much of a difference. I've always faced survivors that played fairly well or even flawlessly. Hell, I used to face UBK (tourney team) fairly regularly for a while as I played at the same time as them and live roughly in the same region.
As survivor however I'm now almost exclusively facing:
"hook BMing campers/tunnelers/sluggers at 5 gens whilst running the strongest addons on the strongest killers and 4 slowdown perks" while I'm trying off meta stuff like AfterCare.
Skillbased MatchMaking made every skillful killer disappear.
EDIT: To be fair I've noticed people are often doing gens instead of watching the person die on the hook for 2 minutes so I guess teammates are better on average I guess ?
So yeah MMR is a success in some way.
"hook BMing campers/tunnelers/sluggers at 5 gens whilst running the strongest addons on the strongest killers and 4 slowdown perks" while I'm trying off meta stuff like AfterCare.
Agreed, really kills my mood when trying to play survivor.
Also,i've yet to face a Blight that isn't running Alchemist Ring + another strong addon with multiple slowdown perks 🙂
-
It exists i guess.
Queue times are pretty much the same.
Meta gamers on both sides are a LOT more common though, which makes the game so damn boring.
Match quality feels about the same as before. It's either stomp or get stomped.Balanced games are still rare.
Overall,it feels worse than without SBMM.I guess i will try to give it a bit more time considering that i didn't play that much lately.

You realize that this is a boring build regardless of which killer right?
Slugging is more understandable on Twins because Victor (even as much as he'd like to) cannot pick up survivors, thus it is core to power.
It's funny that you mention slugging because your very own name has the name of a killer who is also known to slug, and yet he (unlike Victor) can pick up survivors, but somehow the counter argument is always "This is pretty optimal for him because he only gets his power so often".
I do,but these boring builds get even more awful to play against if it synergizes well with the killers power.
And i completely understand that slugging is a necessary part of killer gameplay, obviously, because i'm doing that aswell.
However,it just gets incredibly frustrating to deal with when your teammates are unable to play against Twins, which leads to a gameplay of people getting slugged while the others are trying to pick them up.
I have no issues going against killers that slug, but if that gonna go for 30 minutes or so then yeah,it tends to get frustrating

If there's a way we can encourage anything but slugging people for over 30 minutes then please BHVR,go ahead 🙂

This is BHVR we are talking about.
We have Trapper, the mascot of DbD,who is still the worst killer in the game.
BHVRs balance team might aswell be a random number generator at this point considering how far their changes are reaching from really good to completely confusing

You can't though?
Or am i mistaken?

@bm33 said:
I don't use stretch res, I'm on ps4 and couldn't even if I wanted to. I've heard the reveal for Ghostface go off while I was behind a rock and all but maybe a tiny corner of my screen was covered by the rock. Meanwhile I can face him head on an arms length away and nothing. Not saying stretched res isn't a problem - they definitely need to do something to remove the advantage it gives - but Ghostface reveal is so inconsistent and messed up that even without stretch res you can reveal him without actually seeing him on your screen.
Exactly

That's exactly what people did when they implemented SBMM in Call of Duty. Imagine spending years of your life getting better in a shooter, at the beggining getting assblasted, and little by little getting better than other players to a point where you could get 25 killstreaks consistently and suddently one day they decide to nah, your average kill death ratio must be 1:1. Many veterans stopped playing the game and the season was a disaster, then they decided to disable it.
Imagine back in Wrath of the Lich King, you are in one of the first people in a guild where you finished the raid content and have better gear than everyone else, you queue excited in a battelground but then you realize that you are put against only people that also have similar gear.
My point is matchmaking based on the luck of the draw instead of similar skill is what gives players a better sense of progression and the satisfaction of "pwning some noobs". I just want to be able to keep using my stupid builds and still do decent in the game, i don't want to have to use ruin pop tinkerer... to continue getting my 4ks, I invested a lot of time in this game and everyone who invests it can get to the same point as me.
Wait a minute,do you realize how rediculous this sounds?
You are seriously complaining that you don't want to play against people of equal skill because then you would actually have to try to get you 4k instead of destroying some 100 hours babys with some silly meme build.

What does playing more chill mean? You will reach top % if you put in any effort at all since most survivors are bad. I’m not going to actively let people go to keep my mmr down. That’s absurd.
-Not trying too hard to get the 4k (like slugging the third survivor to find the 4th one)
-Not playing with super meta loadouts (something like Nurse with recharge+range addons,Tinkerer,Ruin,Pop,Corrupt and an Ebony Mori)
-Try some meme builds or off meta perks
Basically treat the game casually and not like you're trying the win the DbD championship
Also,i seriously doubt that getting to top % MMR is gonna be super easy. It's 100% gonna be harder than just reaching rank 1

Are we both going to sit here and pretend that if this new system works as intended, you'll be able to play whoever you want with whatever perks you want, against the best survivors, and not have your experience be a miserable ordeal? If we're going to play make believe, I'd at least like to know.
The fact of the matter is this: most killers in this game have a very well defined skill ceiling - you'll almost never be able to beat certain teams or players, perks notwithstanding, with a majority of the cast. They have barriers on their efficacy based on the power they're given, and not even the best meta builds can propel them beyond a certain point. This is by design, and you could debate whether or not this is intentional on BVHR's end or just due to ignorance of how the game is played on the killer's end.
Survivors have a much higher skill ceiling than all but the most powerful killer (nurse). That is why she is the most picked killer in tournaments, and that is why competitive players gravitate toward her. There -IS- a point where player's skill with this killer can eclipse that of the survivor, and thus it justifies picking her up, learning her, and mastering her power. Other killers (save maybe Spirit) don't have this benefit, and so you will always be artificially capped on how well you'll do.
If you're only counterpoint to this is "yeah, but you don't have to play X and Y way to win." That already tells me that you're not one of the people that will be affected by these changes. More importantly, this outlook shows a lack of concern for all players that will be at the top end, waiting for longer matches, having longer (arguably less fun but that's subjective) matches, and seeing little variance in killer/perk picks.
But hey, to each their own I suppose. My opinion on this whole SBMM situation is that the game isn't balanced enough to even consider implementing a system like this, nor will it ever be based on BVHR's track record of prior balance changes. DBD doesn't have to become the paragon of game balance, it just has to reach that "close enough" point where people are more satisfied than not with the game's current state. At the moment, firing this system off during this period in the game's life is not only reckless, but shows a massive disconnect (yet again) between the developers and the player base.
TLDR: You will read and love my novella god damnit.
You need to understand that BHVR decided to balance towards the casual part of the community, which makes sense.
The top % is irrelevant for them.SBMM is pretty much designed for that reason aswell,to improve the experience of casual players (meaning,it should prevent those games where 200 hours players went against 6000+ hours players). You can't deny that this is,overall, the best option for the game.
I also can't see how BHVR is supposed to find a way to balance top % levels of play AND casual levels of play.It would be a wastw of time imo.
DbD is and will always be a casual game.
-
@woundcowboy said:

So basically….. F anyone who is good at the game? Why then should we continue playing/supporting?
The thing is, nobody is forcing you to reach and stay the top % level of play.
If you want to play more chill then SBMM should match you with rather chill survivors (which was my experience).

Trying to win is sweaty? Do you...not try to win?
DbD is a casual game that refuses to pick a side, there's no way SBMM will actually work in an asymmetrical game.
Like @MadLordJack already explained, there's a big difference in wanting to win and playing Nurse with Recharge+Range,Ruin,Pop,Tinkerer,Corrupt or 4 man SWF with Prove Thyself,Built to Last,Streetwise,Adrenaline and an Ormond Offering.
-
@Pulsar said:

Correct. Balancing FOR the top % is a bad idea.
Balancing the top % is something different, though my idea would probably involve a visible MMR indicator.
Well, they can't balance around the casual AND the top % part of the community.
Also, the problem with your idea is that people will 100% use that to abuse the system.
-
@BadMrFrosty said:
"We know you paid money for our product and have continued to support it (even if sunk cost fallacy plays a massive part in said support), but in the interest of the greater good, you can now enjoy getting fk'd unless you play one of three accepted killers and styles. For survivors, you can now enjoy never encountering 97% of the killer cast or their respective perks. Oh, and we'll balance better based on D A T A that comes from this new MMR (even though our history of changes suggests, more often than not, that we have no idea what we're doing). Have a nice day!"
Neat.
Nobody is forcing you to only play S tier killers with full meta loadout though?

Shifting who gets ######### by the system isn't solving anything, it's just mixing it up.
Not really,BHVR just chooses balance more towards the casual part of the community.
Which is,in my opinion, the better option, considering that the casual part takes up like 99.9% of the playerbase.
The game would completely die if the devs decide to balance towards tournament skill level.

"It's pretty much irrelevant to use them as an arguement against SBMM."
No it isn't. What happens Everytime in games with sbmm is something called skill creep. This will be doubly so because top survivors far outpace top killers. What will happen is top 1% killers/survivors will get frustrated with the game and losing to the top 0.1% and so they will leave. Now sbmm will pair up those top players who remain with lower skilled opponents and they will leave after getting frustrated same as before. This will continue on and on. The OP called it the trickle effect but for games it's better known as Skill Creep.
Even if that would be the case, the overwhelming majority of the playerbase will benefit from this.
Maybe the top percent will get frustrated, some may even leave but at least we shouldn't see people with 100 hours getting matched with players that have like 6000+ hours.

And those people don't matter?
I'm sorry for being concerned about my own experience in the game.
The question would be,do you really want to reach and keep this level of play?
Because if you want to,then it's obvious that that's gonna be a really hard and painful way.
Also, balancing for DbD is really complicated.Like you just can't balance casual levels of play the same way you would balance top percent of play.BHVR decided to balance more towards the casual part of the community so we'll have to live with that decision.

I think it's more that the balancing of high level play in DBD is a joke. There's a reason the tournaments literally would not let survivors run all the meta perks, because it's that skewed towards them. You can only be so mechanically skilled with a ton of the killer roster. A safe pallet is a safe pallet, there's nothing the majority of the killer roster can do against it. A huge map is a huge map, it doesn't matter if your chases are insanely fast when you lose half a gen just walking across the map. Keys are keys. SWFs with keys are a joke, just like old Mori's were a joke. But you get high enough into SBMM and it's keys all the time (not that I don't see them a ton already).
It really just pidgeonholes the killer into a few characters. Which is a massive shame, because the game has come full circle. Survivors were god mode in 2016-2018; only Nurse/Billy could compete. Now it's Nurse/Spirit/Blight. And i've already spammed so much Nurse in the past I really don't feel like having to do it again.
What you and a LOT of people are talking about is like top percent levels of play.
We're talking about a group of people that are about 0.01% of the WHOLE community. It's pretty much irrelevant to use them as an arguement against SBMM.
From my experience,SBMM does a great job at matching you with people of your skill/approach to the game.
It's 100% the players choice whether they want to sweat using the best stuff or to play more chill, maybe with some off meta perks here and there.
It's just gonna take a while for SBMM to properly adjust your skill rating (which is probably too high for many players, because of the awful rank based matchmaking)
-
@DeadByFrameLag said:
I agree. Unfortunatly sbmm is pretty broken. Im not the best nurse in the world, first games with her was "easy-normal", then after literally 2 games became almost impossible to play (super-organized 4 man premades, brand new, full meta build). So yeah, if SBMM will remain the same ill play only Spirit / Nurse with strongest addons & Noed, Mori etc
What kind of loadout are you usually using?
It would make sense to get matched with people that bring strong stuff if you did too
-
I'm pretty average at the game and i like to play rather chill.
The SBMM actually did an amazing job at matching me with people that play in a similiar way like i do.
Games felt a bit harder but there were rarely matches where i felt completely helpless
I definetely look forward to it
-
@Crowman said:
The thing with SBMM is at least it can prevent matching absolute new players with veterans since I doubt SBMM won't select the closest available MMR group to match people with.
But SBMM isn't a ranked mode. Queueing up is still the "casual" mode you are complaining that doesn't exist. I know League of Legend's normal mode has it's own mmr matchmaking as well. This idea that a casual mode can only be casual if it throws veterans vs new players so veterans can have "fun" is bs.
Yeah,i don't get it either.I suppose one part of the community just got used to easy game and, probably think they're amazing at it and then face the harsh reality that they may not be as good at the game as they thought they were when going against people with equal skill.
I know that feeling,it sucks, but people really need to start accepting it
-

I didn't say I wanted easier matches, don't put words in my mouth, friend.
I said that the matches at high MMR are inherently unfair and that no amount of skill will change that. Why do you think tournaments put such heavy restrictions on Survivor?
Until the game is balanced at high MMR, it WILL be miserable for everyone who is good at the game. I'm perfectly content to wait 6 months and watch more and more content creators step away and get burnt out because the game is so ######### at high MMR.
Yes,top levels of play in DbD is definetely unbalanced and problematic. But the thing is,that doesn't affect like 99,9% of the community.Only a handful of people are able to reach those levels.
So,comparing tournament levels of play to the more casual part of the community doesn't matter and is irrelevant to balancing.
I don't really see why content creators would get burned out because of SBMM.Truth is,most content creators are not super highly skilled at the game either.Even if it may look like that.
In my experience,SBMM will pair you with the type of players that match your playstyle.Full Meta loadout every single game? That's what you're gonna verse.
You like to play chill and experiement with off meta perks? Then you're gonna play against players with a similiar approach to the game.
-
At this point we can be happy if it won't get worse than it currently is.
They devs claimed that there will be some performance fixes in the upcoming 5.2.0 update so i guess we'll have to wait and see if things get better or worse
-
Agreed.
I like to play rather chill without super omega gamer builds and SBMM did a great job at matching me with players that approach the game in a more or less similiar way
-
Sounds like the killer version of Hope tbh,so not too interesting

Stunning Blight with a pallet is supposed to be difficult. If anything I think it's been made a lot easier for survivors since they fixed pallet stuns. Still. It's supposed to be hard to time it right, because if it were 100% safe and in the control of survivors, the killer would be unable to do anything about it.
Console Blights have full access to flicks, 180s and most other things Blight has access to on PC. Joysticks are harder to be accurate with, but you have every single tool you'd have on PC, so don't feel discouraged about it! It takes a lot of time and practice to master Blight, because it's a mechanically intensive character either way.
Survivors always have a chance to win against any build or killer. Yes, that Ruin/Undying, Pop, Tinkerer is very strong on Blight, but it is beatable. If the killer is good though, you need your team to be on point too, that's the tough part.
Unfortunately, in the game we have currently, you can't tell, as the killer, if you're gonna go against average teams that will be destroyed by a strong build, or if you're gonna go against a sweaty deathsquad that will need such a build. Better safe than sorry, I suppose, but for what it's worth, I hate gen regression perks and i wish the game weren't balanced around those.
Console Blights have full access to flicks, 180s and most other things Blight has access to on PC. Joysticks are harder to be accurate with, but you have every single tool you'd have on PC
Eh,i disagree on that part.
Console Blight still falls behind PC Blights, due to awful performance (last gen consoles) and lower sensitivity/lack of controller settings
