I remember a really really good one that 1 and 3 other decent survivors (without communication) played against on Suffocation Pit like a year ago or so.
Most fun i've ever had against this killer.
Everyone else just seem to either spam his PotD or zone you with it
-
Nah,this doesn't have to be a SWF thing.
I would agree though that most matches feel like a "stomp or get stomped" kind of thing

I love you lol.
And it is really bad that things are bad on next gen too. No cross progression in sight either so what are we supposed to do? Bhvr?
Maybe buy more cosmetics? 🤔
-
To be fair, the PS5 is like almost a year old.Maybe you should upgrade your hardware?
/s
-
Yes
-
Do you think something like that would be technically feasible and realistic in DBD, or would that waste too much resources and make it impossible to play?
It would look great sure, but optimization is already bad enough as it is.
Additional weather effects would easily make performance even worse than it already is

Not like we have much better slowdown outside of ruin right? Guess i just really like it. Wouldn't be suprised if it was confirmation bias, i just feel naked without it equipped. So many moments i see a nearly done generator and think "i could've prevented that gen from completing with pop"
Pop really isn't good honestly,it's more of a feel good perk.I would ditch it and replace it with Corrupt. That's the only good and consistent "gen regression" perk we have.
I stopped using pop 2 years ago and i really don't miss it.
-
@TacitusKilgore said:
If you equip pop, all killers have time to kick gens. It more than makes up for the time you'll take to walk over and kick the gen, its a great perk.
Idk,i feel like pop is kinda overrated.Yes there are some situation in which it's decent, but it seems more like a time waste.
You invest time to go to that one gen and to kick it ,so you're pretty much trading map pressure for a little bit of slowdown.

My example was just to make a point, the point being that there are plenty of times when the first line of communication between yourself and a game developer would be more than happy to share information with you but is not allowed to. I've been involved in that situation as well and it's the exact same thing. The people who are appointed to act as community managers, public relations directors, etc., are often more or less go-betweens that don't have the authority to make grand declarations regarding something like major bugfixes or when to expect them. That's not a slam against the people in those positions but rather a reiteration of the fact that these decisions are made on the high end, and those people generally tend to feel that it's in everyone's best interest not to share more information until it's ready to be shared.
We know that the company is aware of the issues, we know that the issues don't reflect well on the company or incentivize potential new customers to climb aboard, so it's reasonable to assume that the company doesn't LIKE that there are issues. It is, therefore, also reasonable to assume that the company is being honest when they say that they're looking into the issues and trying to figure out a way to fix them that won't ruin the game. The fact that they release content in the meantime doesn't necessarily indicate anything, as companies have different departments with different budgets, deadlines and contractual obligations.
If BHVR doesn't release content as people expect them to, and that they've announced they will, people will be angry. If they release said content, people will assume that they don't care about more important issues and will be angry. If they give a date when to expect all issues to be resolved and it doesn't happen, people will be angry. If they say nothing, people will be angry. I'm not saying that the company can't do anything more, or anything differently, but they're going to be raked over the coals no matter what - which, as I described earlier, I've been on both sides on before. I can speak from experience when I say that it's normal to acknowledge problems and promise that they're being looked into. But for them to say more - especially when there isn't necessarily anything more to report - is pointless. I'm not trying to take sides, I'm trying to help provide some perspective.
Ah,that's what you were trying to explain with your example.Well, that isn't exactly anything knew either right? It should be obvious that the higher ups at BHVR don't want to adress the optimization issues properly or else we would have gotten more info already.
I absolutely disagree with that.Yes,BHVR knows about the optimization issues, but i don't see ANY noticeable effort on their part to fix it.
FPS and screen freeze triggers have been a known issues for years. They didn't fix anything important regarding Optimization. They actually made it WAY worse with the introduction of the Resident Evil chapter.
If BHVR really cared about opzimization and their playerbase then they would have decided to delay the chapter until it's actually ready to release. But they didn't do it and pushed it out regardless, which clearly tells us that this company cares more about the money they make than delivering a good product to their playerbase that they can actually be proud of.
If BHVR doesn't release content as people expect them to, and that they've announced they will, people will be angry.
Yes,some people will always be angry. No matter what BHVR does, that's obvious. However i assume that the majority of the community (at least the reasonable part) will be ok with delayed content as long as it will release without major bugs/performance issues.
I'm not saying that the company can't do anything more, or anything differently, but they're going to be raked over the coals no matter what - which, as I described earlier, I've been on both sides on before.
They definetely could. It's been 2 years since BHVR stated their aim to improve optimization,so surely their should be some progress so far, right? But nope, there's 0 progress on their side, they made it even worse than before.
Performance has been a huge issues for years so i would say that we as a community deserve to get a decent explanation as to why things are the was they currently are. They did it with hitboxes and latency,so why shouldn't they do the same thing for optimization?

Same, pretty insane how awful the menus and everything behind it is.
It's so slow and sluggish to the point that i feel like a super old grandma trying to navigate it 👵
-
Balance changes to both perks and killers is waaaaaaaaay too slow
-
I suffer as much because of optimization as you,but turning DC penalties off won't help.
Either play with crossplay off or find a game that actually runs with consistent FPS and isn't as frustrating as DbD currently is

I'm conflicted about that. On one hand you're right - I've seen examples where the company definitely could have benefited by being more transparent. At the same time the attitude that most people here have is the same attitude that most people had toward THQ when I was a member of their forums during the early 2010s. So on one hand, unfortunately, the level of (or lack of) direct interaction and clear answers from BHVR is, for better or worse, not unique. At the same time, having eventually been invited to do some work for THQ during that time, I also saw things from their perspective. A lot of times they wanted to be more clear, answer more questions, provide specific dates, etc., but doing so would either wind up blowing up in their face and making things worse OR there was someone over them - CEOs and so forth - who dictated what they could and couldn't say.
There was, for an example, an event in 2013 during which the upcoming WWE game from THQ / 2K Games was going to feature a famous old wrestler, "The Ultimate Warrior". I and the other people privy to this information were absolutely forbidden by way of NDA and full threat of legal action if we so much as hinted that we knew that the character was going to be included. When discussing this with the people directly above me, they openly admitted that they thought that the secrecy was stupid, that they were excited and would have been quite happy to share the excitement with the fans who they knew would also be excited, but they were nonetheless just as forbidden from sharing this information - not even by THEIR superiors, but by their superiors' superiors.
So I guess I'm saying is that I feel you. But try to understand that this is actually pretty common practice. In the end it's all business, and usually the people at the programming and PR level are the ones who are in agreement with you.
Your example doesn't really work here. It's obvious that those people can't talk about upcoming content.
But we are talking about optimization issues here. There's absolutely no good reason not to update us on their progress on these issues or at least give us a basic explanation as to why it takes several years to fix it
-

As I've stated on numerous threads, particularly the long thread we have here on the forums with regards to console optimisation...this is still work in progress for us and the team is working on fixing the issues that Consoles are currently facing, especially those hitches when things like Dead Hard is being used. This is an ongoing process.
Can we please get at least a basic explanation as to why it takes this long to fix?
FPS drops/screen freeze triggers were a known issue for at least 2 years.BHVR didn't made any noticeable progress on these issues, despite how impactful they are for the player experience.
And now they made it even worse with the introduction of the RE chapter.

They will ignore it.There's no need to respond to it from their POV

Those survivor perks can be countered without the need to bring a perk.
DS? It only affects you if you are a proxy camper or Tunneler of both.
BT? Same as above. Even when in a situation where both camping and tunneling were “warranted”, you can still wait it out and slug. To which brings me to the following perk.
UB? VERY situational. I think all these perks are very rng dependent simply because they rely on the playstyle of that specific player. Otherwise you will not see their effects as much.
so I don’t really think they are that much game changing than say the playstyle of a killer.
To be fair, those three perks are especially strong because of the influence they can have on killer behaviour.
Survivor got unhooked right in front of me?Need to ignore him because he will have DS and BT.
3 survivors are downed and i see the last survivor?I should start to hook them before someone can use UB.

I think it will help in the immediate future and so long as they continue to work on Optimization, it should be fine.
I'm not too hopeful about that considering the sorry state optimization is in right now.
Like after all these years,it didn't get better, but worse
-
You pretty much don't loop the Clown.
Only thing you do against him is pre throwing pallets, run loops that make it awkward for him to use his bottles (e.g most main buildings) or generally start to run as soon as you know that he will go for you.

It would be an awesome QoL feature, which is exactly why we won't see it :)

I don't see all Blights running the same exact addons every match.
He has a ton of good ones to choose from
-
Yep,incredibly slow perk balance is one of the reason why this game feels so stale sometimes.
Like,at least pick 5 perks for each side every chapter/mid-chapter update and maybe even ask the community how they think these perks should be changed (Just to get some more ideas).

yes, I do give this information to the correct departments and they've also seen the videos that Pulsar posted which highlighted many of the issues very clearly.
And with the comments re Devs not responding on here, that is technically my job. The forum is a Community forum after all and the Developers that drop by here are mostly on their own time (except for QA who are here, locked in the bug report section). We occasionally get a couple of game designers dropping by, again that is on their own time and of course the issues discussed in this thread, are nothing to do with game design.
Also as a member of the Community Team (I'm a Community Coordinator), it's my specific job to bring up issues, feedback etc to the team as well as give as much information as I can to the Community. Sadly I can't share details of when fixes will go live, but I can share that the team are actively working on numerous "hitches" including the one with Dead Hard.
Edited to add - can we also please not derail the thread with cute pics, it does kinda make light of this issue that consoles are having and also bloats the thread :( Sorry to be a killjoy....but I do think this thread is important.
Mandy, could it be possible for you to ask the team to give as a basic explanation as to why it takes so incredibly long to fix these performance issues even though they were known years before?
You all did that already with hitboxes/latency and i think at this point we deserve at least an explanation WHY things take literally years to fix.
We would really appreciate it
-
We need proper controller settings to make Trickster a viable option on console, but considering how it took BHVR 3 years after console release just to double sensitivity i doubt it comes anytime soon
-
Simply put,Trickster is bad on console because of the lack of proper controller settings to adjust things like deadzone or response curve.
Trickster requires to track the survivor with your blades and constantly make tiny adjustments to your aim to account survivor movement, environment, recoil and the fact that Trickster never throws his blades in the exact middle of your screen.
It's just incredibly frustrating to deal with on controller and takes a ton of effort compared to Huntress and Deathslinger who only need you to aim well one time to get a healthstate

I played as survivor yesterday and my game didn’t freeze with sloppy butcher I was hit by the perk and the game didn’t lag.
I played against Doc and the game didn’t freeze once.
Played as and against nemesis and game never froze.
the rest I didn’t test yet. I know the game still freezes when you unhook a survivor and when dead hard happens. But the rest like fast vaults and missed skillchecks never froze my game
on my console 5 out of the 10 things you listed never froze my game
Is it a next gen or last gen console though?

If you are a mobility killer yes
Even as a 110% (4,4 m/s) movement speed killer you can cross about 180m of distance before you have to kick a gen.
You could even walk as Nurse and still have enough time to get to most gens.

Hitting same wall on the loop to get speed impossible to react in not fine my friend
Bumping multiple times into a wall is a waste of rush tokens, even with speed addons.
If a Blight is doing that then he's either trying to snipe someone in the distance or tries to hit around a loop which can be avoided by not hugging the loop too tight
-
Hmm,i don't find Tinkerer too strong honestly.
I can totally understand that it's frustrating to go against with Ruin+Undying/Pop on high mobility killers, but getting rid of the totems, splitting up on gens and be aware when the gen hits the 70% mark should be enough to deal with it.
Sure, that's easier said than done in solo queue but that's another problem in itself.

How hard is to make a game that doesn't freeze these days? A lot of developers are still able to do it lmao.
I don't know how can people defend defective products and empty promises for years. What time to be alive.
I also hate the fact that BHVR refuses to explain why it takes that long to fix.
It's insane that even just getting back to pre-Resident Evil chapter performance would be a major improvement.
-
They are aware of the issue, but i suppose it's gonna take another few years to actually fix it 😐

Sure, but it isn't like they haven't known about these issues for multiple years.
There's also 0 excuses for BHVR to not give us any kind of official update on the optimization with a basic explanation as to why it takes so long to fix certain optimzation problems.
-
It was so cute.
My favourite part was when he was talking about how devious and threatening each killer feels to play while we saw gameplay of him chasing all 4 survivors out of the exit gate with only 2 hooks the entire game 🤣
Tierlist could have looked much worse tbg
-
-Terrible optimization
-Insanely slow balancing for both perks and killers
-The map changes were completely pointless regarding balance
-No further changes to the grind to make it better for new players and introduce a more exciting grind for everyone
-Lack of super basic QoL features (e.g toggle button for interactions, controller settings etc.)
-
I agree with Remember Me,Gearhead and Coup De Grâce part. Those nerfs were beyond stupid and unnecessary.
The change to Hangman's Trick was fine though. It's supposed to counter sabotage plays and not provide that amount of map awareness

Anyones game randomly freezing wothout anyone doing anything known to cause issues? Just got downed by freedy on a safe loop because I couldn't move for a few seconds and he got to me. It was not dead hard. Does the game freezes when someone enters dream state too?
It is beyond frustrating that it is somehow acceptable that game is in this state for so long. Console players bad.
Yes,sometimes the game just loves to freeze for absolutely no reason.
Very fun

PC exploit:
Step 1) get a 4 man SWF with 4 dead hards
Step 2) get a few people to become injured
Step 3) Call out to your injured teammates to dead hard while someone is about to get hit
Step 4) The killer lags, misses their attack and the survivor gets a crap ton of distance.
Step 5) Repeat steps 2 - 5.
The fact that this is possible is vile.
(EDIT: also if this gets removed for "promoting exploits", then BHVR sees the complaints about console optimisation but just does care. Also almost 100 pages hellz yeah.)
It's hilarious that i can pretty much always tell when my teammates have Dead Hard even if they're getting chased on the other side of the map

Only thing we get are serious performance issues that can completely throw the game for you.Especially on the killer side.
