https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/226596/the-outcry-for-the-new-ui-is-a-bit-exaggerated
Boy oh boy, I'm in a mood, so here. We. Go!
But I've already adjusted to it, and that means pretty much anyone can.Just because you adjusted to something that is bad doesn't mean that the bad thing is good. I can adjust to a belt being on too tightly and rubbing me wrong while doing my job, but that doesn't mean it's a good thing. In any case, it's not a matter of "adjusting to bad". It's a matter of something needing improvement and a passionate community voicing that issue. If anything, it's a good thing that the community is so together in bringing this up, because it shows they care and that the normal bias issues aren't present. Furthermore, UIs/HUDs are a big deal in games. The original UI was very well designed on account of it's simplicity. The new one being all over the place and scattered looks like you're trying to play a game while you also have the K/D score pulled up on the side. It's silly.
But to say that the game is "unplayable", to say that it's "ruined", to say that it's "dead" because of a UI change is just ridiculous.Yes. It is ridiculous. It's also a tactic that goes as far back as all of mankind to make an overblown response to something in order to express your feelings on it. Some of the greatest minds in history have used this tactic for their own ends. A bunch of people playing cat and mouse on the internet is by no means above such methods.
Y'all are making the pushback against the Nurse nerf, the DS nerf, the bloodlust removal, the Balanced nerf, and everything else seem like nothing compared to this. It's a global issue that resonates with the entire community. Almost NOBODY likes the new HUD. It's barely debated, it's just accepted as being bad. As stated earlier, this is actually a big deal, as the community is almost entirely behind the opinion. For the devs, this is actually a bit of a good thing, because they can see EVERYONE disliking the change and go "Oh, this isn't some bias thing with one side or another, everyone agrees we need to change it". That gives them a clear and obtainable goal without having to worry about upsetting people with a good fix. Other changes, such as balance changes, will always have fans and detractors based on how they are affected. The HUD is almost ALL detractors. It's a clear sign to the devs that they need to improve it.
If y'all were up in arms about actual important issues the game has instead of being petty and choosing sides all the time, I'm sure DBD would be much better right about now.People are "up in arms" about all kinds of issues, all the time. This one simply has global appeal. It's also not THAT hard to fix. I have personally worked on UIs/HUDs in the past, and am currently designing one for a small project. They aren't hard to manipulate so long as you know what you are working with. If BHVR can fix this and make a new layout that everyone agrees is an improvement, then some of the more divisive issues stand a better chance of being addressed, as the devs have shown they are more up to the task.
In closing, you're shaming people for wanting quality out of something they paid for. You're shaming them for agreeing that something is bad and needs improvement. You're telling people they should just accept things that are not up to standard. If everyone had YOUR mindset, the community would be dull and unable to bring up potential changes to improve the game, because they'd be too busy "adjusting to it". You're mindset and actions are the problem, not the people that rightfully pointed out an issue with global appeal.
Thank you very much.I'm tired of people shaming the community for bringing valid criticism
If y'all were up in arms about actual important issues the game has instead of being petty and choosing sides all the time, I'm sure DBD would be much better right about now.
Do you know how MANY posts and discussion we had about the state of optimization (especially on console) and BHVR still decided to do NOTHING?
I'm sorry but your mindset is horrible.

Probably some truth to that, but I think it still shows the dev's solving one thing, but not thinking about what else it would effect.
They could easily have made the traps darker (like the addon for Trapper does) to help alleviate the issue, but nope.
Well, the devs just hate trapper honestly.
Like, why does he not have AT LEAST 2 traps as basekit?
I don't get it

They just need to hand over Dead by Daylight to some other company because they don't deserve it. Another weird question did Starbreeze pull away from BHVR? I no longer see their logo when starting up the game
Nope BHVR bought the complete rights to DbD from Starbreeze

Not_Queen is answering questions on Discord now. This stood out to me, though. I'm not sure if I missed the context of her answer, and I'm hoping I am, but it sounds like they can revert the changes--but won't?
However, to be fair, Not_Queen also said:
"I am trying to get you answers but there are discussions happening at the moment between the team and I have to wait until these are resolved and a plan is cleared out before I can communicate about it."
So, maybe there's still a chance that things will be changed.
Is she seriously telling us that this UI and the system behind it took months to get done?
I'm seriously shocked right now.

Let's imagine BHVR saw the reaction to the PTB and decided they needed to change the UI. What would you have had them do? Delay the patch, including the many other more consequential improvements it contains, in order to tweak it or revert it? It takes time to make these changes and there is basically no chance of anything more involved than minor bug fixes or number value tweaks making it into the final release that weren't in the PTB version. Not having a different UI ready for 4.5.0 does not mean that they're ignoring feedback.
Still, the majority of posts on this forum whine about just about every single new patch and change. Reverting every change the forum doesn't initially approve of would would result in almost no new content being released.
The elephant in the room is also that people notoriously hate UI changes for any software right after release, regardless of whether or not they're actually an improvement. A PTB is not enough time to get used to it enough to fairly evaluate it versus the old UI. It also might be more popular on other platforms, which wouldn't be apparent from a PC-only PTB.
Please don't tell me that the whole UI team isn't able to move the UI elements down to the bottom like they used to be in 4 weeks. That's ridiculous
The thing is,the UI is just objectively bad. There is absolutely no point in denying that.A good UI is able to give me all the important information i need after a quick look, which is absolutely NOT the case with the current one.

They didn't mess up big, though. The state of the Binding of Kin DLC at launch? That was a big mess up. This is a purely cosmetic issue that is more of a matter of personal taste than anything else. I don't love the HUD, but it's fine. You'd think the devs murdered everyone's dogs with how the reaction has been on the forum. This is the forum crying wolf about the devs destroying their game and I feel it's just giving them less reason to take feedback seriously when something really is broken.
People notoriously hate any UI changes, regardless of whether or not they're good or bad, until they get used to them. That's worth considering when considering lots of day 1 hate for a new HUD.
If people would actually frame their arguments well and stay civil instead of just angrily spamming about things that would be a lot more constructive and helpful for the developers.
Have you even seen the 4.5.0 PTB feedback section?
There was a TON of good feedback why this new UI is bad,but BHVR choosed to ignore it,said they want to also gather feedback from the console players, but then suddenly told us that it's apparently not possible to revert the changes??
I'm sorry but BHVR doesn't care about the feedback from its playerbase and that's why people are so insanely angry right now.

But when less than 5% of the total player base uses either of those methods to provide feedback, it's not a valid representation of "what the community wants."
If they choose to ignore the feedback they get on plattforms like these then they should straight up don't ask for it anymore.
BHVR asked for feedback on the HUD,animations etc.
Community mostly agreed that those changes are bad.
BHVR pushed them on live servers regardless.

I don't understand why it's hard to play around terrain instead of out in the open and relying on jukes. Terrain still interrupts killer hits.
There should still be an option to juke hits from the killer.
It adds more skill on the survivor and killer side
-
@IWasLeft2Die said:
For the topic at hand
They have said they won't revert it and it honestly makes sense since they want it to be uniform and easier to implement changes down the road. Now I have issues with the hud as well but how would you guys want to improve it beyond "throw the entire thing away".
Personally I'd be okay with the just increasing the size of hook meters, increase survivor portrait sizes (and keep portraits for downed survivors), give killer the same hook info, and put generators at the bottom. Other than that I like the look
Just put everything at the bottom how it used to be and don't scatter it across the whole screen
-
@The_Krapper said:
I think a big reason there has been so much backlash is the fact the devs are so secretive and not open about what's happening, the new UI isn't that bad but the new animations are god awful, with the new UI it seems like dbd mobile which if they plan on bringing in the training mode from mobile then the new UI instantly becomes more appealing to the community with some minor adjustments so they aren't all over the place to get basic info.
Point being BHVR having such a secrecy about what they intend on doing in the game is now coming back to bite them because nobody knows the "what" or the "why" to what they're changing they just see changes that everyone disagreed with going live with no other answer than " we can't go back now , you're stuck with it" IF BHVR really cares about this community and the health of the game they need to be more open about what's happening and where they intend on going with the game, Any thoughts?
Personnally, the HUD is the worst thing because it causes eye strains and even headaches after a few games.
Also, they won't.We've seen the whole colorblindness fiasco,we've seen the s***show that is the console optimization and now we got this update?
I simply have no faith in BHVR anymore, just when i thought things got better with the upcoming DS changes and the proposed OoO rework.

make the items/abilities smaller and we're fine.
You can make everything smaller in the settings, there is a scale slider for that (Steam version, no idea if that's also a thing on console).
The best option really would be add an option to customize the placement of the elements somewhere, then everyone can build their own HUD. Maybe add an option to remove certain elements if someone doesn't want or need them.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1933238#Comment_1933238
A TV screen is much bigger than a PC screen (90% of the time it is, some people have huge screens for their PC games). Before it was all clustered together for information. Now it's all over the place
It seems like a lot of people who dislike it have big screens / TVs. Have you tried changing the scale in the Settings menu to see if you can find a value that improves it for you?
My TV is rather small and changing the scale does nothing for me

all those white knights from previous polls telling everyone how dumb they were to think that the forums are a good indication of the overall player sentiment seem to be quiet now. It’s amazing how this happens time after time. These people empower the devs to keep doing things like this.
I really hope this game takes a massive numbers hit (enough to get the bosses in bhvr to take their head out of their posterior and manage the employees) for the over all health of the game. The status quo lately for these devs is atrocious. It feels like people designing things don’t even play video games (HUD).
You don't even have to play video games to realize how bad this UI is

unfortunately you aren't a dev nor do you know what's going on behind the scenes. Adapt and overcome instead of whining and bitching, help them iron out the bugs and report them or stop playing if you hate it that much
There's a difference between "whining and bitching" and giving constructive freedback on what the majority of the community didn't like.
