I think it's more that the balancing of high level play in DBD is a joke. There's a reason the tournaments literally would not let survivors run all the meta perks, because it's that skewed towards them. You can only be so mechanically skilled with a ton of the killer roster. A safe pallet is a safe pallet, there's nothing the majority of the killer roster can do against it. A huge map is a huge map, it doesn't matter if your chases are insanely fast when you lose half a gen just walking across the map. Keys are keys. SWFs with keys are a joke, just like old Mori's were a joke. But you get high enough into SBMM and it's keys all the time (not that I don't see them a ton already).

It really just pidgeonholes the killer into a few characters. Which is a massive shame, because the game has come full circle. Survivors were god mode in 2016-2018; only Nurse/Billy could compete. Now it's Nurse/Spirit/Blight. And i've already spammed so much Nurse in the past I really don't feel like having to do it again.

Ohhh what's up bud I've seen u in pros stream I think ahah

Yes, I play this game for like 5+ years. I don't run slowdown builds most of the time since I don't rly care about winning or my rank and I don't want stressfull games where I have to care about gens and hooks so much.

I play Shadowborn, Lightborn and Barbecue on all killers. Shadowborn is simply there to feel good, I just like increased FOV because it just feels better to play as a Killer since your FOV is not that big by default and I see more of my skins better :D. Lightborn is simply there to reduce the stress of the game and it's also funny since most survivors don't expect this perk and they will keep trying to blind you and it just doesn't work and they just waste their time or expose themselfs to you. I just rly dislike when someone last second switch to flashlight or when there are like 2+ flashlights and making me stressfull about picking someone that I downed. Barbecue is there for me to know where to go next after I hook someone so I don't waste time just running randomly around a map or gens. Also that sweet extra points are always welcome.

Last perk I pick depending on the killer. For example, on ranged killers I like to play Iron Maiden since it helps reload and again, it feels good to play it since you are faster. As you asked, yes for Trickster I play this as well, it just feel good to reload his ammo fast too.

For other killers like Twins I like to run Deerstalker, since it helps me know where my Victor downed someone or if I have to slug then I don't lose the sight of the Survivors. For Oni, I have to play for Infectious Fright because it helps him so much then to snowball with his power. On Nurse I play Lethal Persuer since it helps to start chase quickly as a Nurse where her weakness is hidding Survivors.

Most of the avarage killer (trapper, wraith, freddy, etc.) roaster I play the last perk Enduring because it makes you rly don't care about the pallets and you are not scared / annoyed to get stunned.

Btw you can go for Bamboozle for Trickster for sure, it helps with shack or other window loops to down them quicker :)

Thanks so much for your reply friend! I'm about 3+ years in myself and I've slowly started feeling that myself, to not care to win and just have fun ya know!

Thanks for your clarification on trickster, but can I ask again what you'd put on nemesis? I'd also love to hear your survivor build.

I very much appreciate you going into detail for some of the other killers! Anymore you wanna talk about?

Have a wonderful day my friend!

  • @Chocolate_Cosmos said:

    I play anti-stress build:

Shadow Born, Light Born, Barbecue and last perk usualy something like Enduring, Bamboozle or for ranged killers I like Iron Maiden.

I can respect that, you a long time player? I usually only see long time DBD players completely drop slowdowns. Seems like just a comfy build. You run this on every killer? Seems like fun, I'm tempted

What bout survivor? I'm curious what build you run.

Edit: oh and following your rules for your fourth perk, what would u run on say trickster, he's ranged so iron maiden...but bamboozle is also really well on him for forcing survs in the open to get those easy knife shots. And what about nemesis, which would be better for him in your opinion as a 4th.

I'm almost tempted to ask what u run as a 4th on each killer if that's not too much lmao

The devs keep saying that, but they haven't actually tested it with the playerbase. It could at least be afforded a test in a future PTB to see how the community feels about it. BHVR should know by now they aren't always right

I'd personally like to see his tier 3 buffed a little bit to make it actually worth getting tier 3 because to me I'm not worried about getting tier 3, usually I'm like rushing to get the tier 2 which don't get me wrong tier 3 is great to have.

I guess that's all I could ask for, tier 3 buffs and improve zombie AI so that it's not walking into things so much.

Also off topic, I think I sent u a friend request on discord so that I wouldn't have to talk about builds and ask about them here. Same name...nemmy wemmy

As a strategist and randomist, for survivor I enjoy having Deja Vu appear in my setup, because I like the idea of making the endgame even more tricky for my opponent, and it has saved many of potential 3 gen.

For killer, although I'm not sure why, but Forced Penance is always satisfying to use.

I always liked deja Vu I think it's a tiny bit underrated. Really helps with randoms and not 3 genning. Hell even helps with my swf bc we just sorta play without taking stuff too seriously.

What else you usually run with deja Vu I'm curious?

heres some builds to try with them, if you want any other builds you can ask :)

    "All Seeing" Demo

    Addons:

    -Lifeguard whistle and Sticky Lining

    Perks:

-Ruin, Surveillance, Bitter Murmur, and undying. With this build your portals can act as constant surveillance in important areas (including your ruin totem) and everytime a survivor leaves a generator, your surveillance and ruin will instantly inform you. Bitter murmur also helps a lot, since anytime a gen even manages to get completed without you instantly knowing, you get to see where all the survivors who completed the gen are. The build turns demo into a pretty opressive tracker, its quite fun.

    "Silent Sniper" Pyramid Head

    Addons:

    -Burning Man Painting, Wax Doll.

    Perks:

-Tinkerer, Pop, I'm All Ears, Trail of torment. The idea of this build is to turn pyramidhead into a lethal ambush attacker, and heavily relies on your ability to hit long distance shots outside of the range your sword makes sound. The addons will help a lot with this, but you can feel free to use whatever ones you like. The gist of the build is that whenever tinkerer procs, you move silently towards the gen and snipe anybody on it from long distance. You will pretty frequently get some downs/injures doing this, and its really fun. Pop lets you bring the gen back below tinkerer level so you can use it again, and trail of torment lets you choose to be undetectable whenever you want to get even more silent snipes. Im all ears is just a helpful perk in general, since it lets you get much easier shots during the chase, it can be switched out if you are already confident in your shots.

    "Immersed" Ghostface

    Addons:

-GF Caught on Tape, Chewed Pen

    Perks:

Nurses Calling, Sloppy Butcher, Hex: The Third Seal, Whispers. While this build is not particularly effective in the "slowdown" department, it is a lot of fun and pretty thematic for GF. You want to play VERY stealthy with this build, try to never be seen and be incredibly sneaky. You want to close in on uninjured survivors and use the IRI addon to expose them really quickly for a fast down. Nurses and sloppy lets you take advantage of your near constant stealth to ambush healing survivors, third seal causes survivors to frequently be in a state of confusion leading to you creeping up on them a lot easier. Whispers makes sure you always know where to be, further lending to the idea you are a constant stalker. Really fun build, you'll feel super spooky, and often times i've had survivors tell me i jumpscared them multiple times.

Those are three builds for each killer that i think are really fun, but i have plenty more. Feel free to ask :)

Yeah not gonna lie I really like the "immersed" builds you do like for Nemmy and now ghostie.

I bet immersed demo would be fun if you ever made it, not the best in the world but yeah. Something like bloodhound since he's literally attracted to it.

Haven't tried these builds yet here that you mentioned mostly bc I've been so busy with work, but it's nice to see other killers who don't use the meta 24/7 and can do just fine lol

Do these builds still do fine if u don't have the add-ons? Like say I just wanna hop on in play and not use my add-ons or I ran out.

  • Thanks xD haha you got a cute name too!

Demo, Nemmy, Phead, Blight, And ghostie. I probably like more killers than most, but they're really fun to fight. Demo is probably my favorite though, he's just really fun to fight and has an excellent presence and aesthetic. I never feel unfairly beaten if i die to one.

Yo please tell me your builds for demo, phead and ghostie. I love your nemmy build.

Much love and have a great day!

  • @TacitusKilgore said:

Absoloutely. No other killer gets such dopamine injecting moments like phead. If you've ever gotten a multihit as him, or perfectly predicted a shot through the wall, you'll know what i mean. He absoloutely wrecks when you get really good at him, arguably i'd say besides nurse or blight he has the highest skill payoff in the game.

Thanks for the reply on that other thread! I hear you're a demo and phead enjoyer as well! I'd love to see how you play them like perks n add-ons I mean!

  • @TacitusKilgore said:

    I reccomend lore accurate nemesis:

    -Marvins Blood

    -Ink Ribbon

    -Devour Hope

    -Enduring

    -Spirit Fury

    -Starstruck

Honestly it sounds like alot of fun, I've also found that spirit fury works so well with his power bc as nemesis you actually don't care if they predrop, that's an easy pallet break or injure/infection if they do so.

You got a bbq variant for us players who couldn't bare to skip on all those bp gains xD?

  • @Yamaoka said:

    I started playing in 2017/2018 on XB1.

Over the course of the years there were many changes I liked or disliked but what made me quit the game was the performance that got so terrible that I would consider it unplayable.

Now I got a Series X which can run the game on a steady 60fps but for some reason I don't feel like playing DBD anymore.

The long break I took made me realize how the same years old issues are still there making me lose every interest in the game.

As killer: Gens go too quickly.

Boring gameplay. Not worth my time.

As survivor: 90+% killers (proxy)camp/tunnel/slug and try everything they can to get you without a legit chase.

Boring gameplay. Not worth my time.

Wow dude I feel that on a spiritual level, really started playing less and less during the absolutely unplayable (for console) binding of kin chapter, decided to not play till I got a PS5 bc it was that bad. Anyways fast forward to just before the trickster chapter, I played alot of dbd during it, but I felt so...idk empty? I ended up slowly playing alot less.

Like I felt like soooo much time was wasted for the amount of time I out in, hiding survivors that waste sooooo much time after you kill two of them....or survivors who do NO gens while you are playing survivor...I started running whispers on every killer because it started annoying me that much.

Then don't get me started on the grind, it doesn't matter that I have about half the killers p3 all perks, Its still an outrageous grind, takes ages and it makes me feel like I have to always run WGLF/BBQ, because I simply can't give up those bp gains. So as of now I have only two perk slots, whispers to deal with the near hostage taking (idk what other word to use for it but let's not get hung up on semantics) and BBQ to make sure I'm not missing out on BP.

The bugs have been driving me up the wall more then usual like my patience has widdled away. Like the sound bugs, and the countless bugs that are on some killers.

Like don't get me wrong I'm insanely passionate about this game, but I'm like you, I feel like it's sadly not worth my time right now. And it may be silly to some people to hear, but it makes me genuinely sad, because sometimes I think to myself that I wanna play, and all I end up doing is talking myself out of it and being a little down about it.

Edit: What about you Yamaoka? What games you been playing, and what you been doing? (I'm high ground my names been changed in the forums)

  • @EvilJoshy said:

Are you new to dbd? Were you expecting BHVR to do their jobs? They're never going to fix console because it was always an after thought for more $$$

Lmao you seem like me, as more time goes on I've gotten very cynical when I used to be alot more positive/give the benefit of a doubt.

You play trapper right? How do you keep playing? Lately it's been a slog for me, making me feel unfulfilled when I play...idk if it's burn out or I'm just getting tired of the same nonsense.

  • Yeah you can change the bindings mate.

  • @chargernick85 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/264726/fire-up-or-brutal-strength

I love both these perks. Fire up is killer based to me and guessing you are trickster brutal. Fire up is a comeback perk (supposed to be) and helps make your actions faster when you need them the most. Saying that I prefer fire up on slower killers and by slower I am referring to slow starters (Mike and trapper mostly). Brutal is 20% regardless and has some synergy with perks. Brutal + enduring is one of my favorite combos and needing some extra spice in your games? Run brutal and fire up it's very fun especially with wraith. I love (really love) fire up on Mike it makes him pretty stupid in chase (the vault speed is hilarious).

Oh mind sharing some of those builds? Like fired up Mikey?

  • @AppleCinamon said:

I love fire up, even tho it does not have as much of an impact as other perks but doing everything faster is always nice.

what killer/build do you use it on? I just wish they'd go ahead and increase the numbers on this perk lol it's an easy buff.

@chargernick85 ignore this @ I tried to quote u and now I can't seem to remove that @ hahaha

  • Absolutely I wouldn't. I use bbq/wglf in every build solely bc of the bps. I'd prefer to use other perks. Tho I won't be afraid to admit picking up slugs alot faster with wglf or seeing auras with bbq isn't nice at times just not something I want most of the time.

  • @FrndlyChnswSalzmn said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2339801#Comment_2339801

I don't use BBQ unless i'm farming, so can't help you there.

Alright! Did you ever more thoroughly test out infectious & zombies? Or you still liking huntress Lullaby most?

I had an idea of a starting point for a build but it's a bit gimmicky. Dragons Grip and Overcharge. You kick a gen, if they touch it they're forced to scream instantly failing the overcharge skillcheck. Alerting zombies nearby who may help you find the exposed surv easier. But again dragons grip has a lengthy cooldown and let's be real, overcharge is bad haha

Also you got a yt or anything to watch your games I'd be interested in watching.

  • I'd agree but mostly bc I like seeing weak perks get the buffs they deserve.

  • @FrndlyChnswSalzmn said:

Update: HOLY ######### HOARDER + SPIES IS SO GOOD ON NEMESIS!

Total map awareness with these two perks. Every time survivors pick up an item, every time they touch a vaccine, every time they startle a crow - you know where they are. Add in Infectious Fright and the zombies are just all over them constantly. Oppression makes them near-incapable of doing a gen. So good.

Ah so infectious does in fact help the zombies then?

I wouldn't think spies and hoarders would since you're the only one hearing them. Unless you mean you're just using them for info, but I definitely think we're on to something with infectious/failed skillcheck perks.

I just noticed that it says

"Zombies will react to Distraction Perks, such as Diversion or Red Herring .

Zombies will react to all sorts of noises produced by Survivors, e.g. rushed actions, failed Skill Checks, Generator Repairs, Chest Unlocks, etc." But this doesn't mention screaming so It makes me wonder...I think it needs tested tbh

In all seriousness do you have a bbq build you can recommend me?

  • @FrndlyChnswSalzmn said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2337293#Comment_2337293

I prefer Lullaby over Ruin because it actually makes noise when survivors blow a gen, which attracts zombies. I have also doubled up, swapping Undying for Ruin and that works well, but then Oppression is useless unless you lose Ruin early (and sometimes you will).

Speaking of Oppression I cannot stress enough how crazy good it is. Oppression has been the difference between '3 gens pop at once' and 'i and/or the zombies got there in time to stop all of them from popping'.

Anything that forces Survivors to make noise notifications is good on nemesis.

Gibb build with bbq pls. I'm starving over here plus event ;)

But yeah I don't know why I never thought of that because gens blowing up does in fact attract zombies. I wonder if screaming does too? Like infectious/Deathbound.

  • @brokedownpalace said:

    That's all. Take care everybody.

Why though? I'm getting fed up myself I just wanna hear what's been getting on your nerves! Love your presence in the forums.

  • What was the build exactly? I only took away corrupt and lightborn from the post.

I enjoy lightborn myself, it's funny seeing them try and fail over and over, nets a decent amount of hits especially those that try to stun at pallets. Not amazing but I enjoy not being a meta slave always.

Never really thought of it on Myers, but yeah stalking flashlight users can be annoying at times so I see the synergy

  • @MarcoPoloYolo said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2317865#Comment_2317865

I disagree, and allow me to elaborate.

Clown can pretty much guarantee hits outside of redropped pallets, and as long as the loop isn't gigantic, he can make the loop playable with the yellow bottle. Not to mention he can catch up to survivors a bit faster than other killers.

Legion gives large amounts of in-kit info, and has slowdown, which works fairly well for running something like 2 slowdown and 2 chase perks. (enduring and bamboozle in particular).

Trickster, on the other hand, is anemic on even somewhat competent survivors. For some perspective, play Huntress, and only go for fully charged shots with the restriction that you can't crossmap. Now pretend that the survivors can go break LOS without fear as long as they're not exposed for the entirety of the hatchet charging. It's abysmal. He lacks every element that makes ranged killers good, while having the full ranged killer drawbacks. He's pretty much like the ranged equivalent to pre buff Letherface. Only good for punishing altruism, and you're going to have a bad time getting to the position to where you can punish altruism.

You basically perfectly summed up my exact thoughts on this topic. Not only that you explained yourself quite well.

I really hope some changes comes to trickster because he has soooo much going against him sadly.

Off topic.....but mind telling me your legion build? You mention bamboozle and enduring which I've used both before but usually not in the same build for whatever reason, also two slowdowns so yeah what do you run?..obligatory build with bbq as well?

  • @[Deleted User] said:

I wish he had a rework and they gave him other types of traps like wires or cages. It's kind of lame that he's called "The Trapper" and only has one type of trap.

I completely agree make him a mixed bag of traps. I don't care what, but more traps even if they are nothing more then a trip wire that gives u info

  • Of course you don't have to use the meta in red ranks to do well, just have to do other things that give yourself pressure like more slugging but don't just slug for the sake of it, gotta do it intelligently when the situation calls for it.

  • @TheClownIsKing said:

I play in red ranks. My mains are Clown (not playing him lately because of the bugs), Plague, Doc, and Twins. I mostly win, and very rarely are my loses really bad, embarrassing loses. I’m very anti meta.

    Here are some of my most used builds;

    Clown -

Coulrophobia, Deathbound, Forced Penance, Sloppy Butcher.

    Doc -

Distressing, Coulrophobia, Overwhelming Presence, Unnerving Presence.

M&A, Dark Devotion, Overcharge, Dragon’s Grip. (Double Calm add ons)

    Plague -

Corrupt Intervention, Dark Devotion, Infectious Fright, Blood Echo.

    Twins -

Coup De Grace, Hoarder, Oppression, Zanshin Tactics.

As you see here, other than Corrupt on Plague, and Sloppy on Clown, there’s nothing very meta here. Game slow down is more than equipping gen slow down perks. That will only get you so far. Gen slow down is also about thinking about strategies you can use with your chosen killers that keep as many survivors off if gens as often as possible. This includes figuring out ways to trick and outwit survivors both within chases, and out of them.

I really wish you made some sort of Google doc or something with your build on every killer similar to like otz or something lmao I freaking love your thought process and builds mate.

  • You'll have to start over as there are no current plans that are known of, to bring cross progression to Xbox/playstation

I’ve been sticking just to his teachables to really understand him.

Hmm I've been using a mix of that and other perks... I've been using lethal pursuer and eruption, bbq and discordance (all like level 2).

So far I feel like eruption is probably a little bit of a waste of time on him unless you use brutal with it to not waste so much time kicking a bunch of gens but lethal pursuer has been great as I've been able to get early game pressure and spread out contamination

  • @TheClownIsKing said:

He’s great. Incredibly designed, and his kit is very robust and thoughtful.

Hey have you theory crafted some perk combinations or add-ons that would be good on him? What have you been using? I'll probably end up asking you again later...because I always value your input on builds n such.

I'm not sure about the add-ons at all, sorta hoping int3r4ct puts out the hard numbers on them all so I can see exactly what they are doing. But so far contamination on survivor hits are what I think is the best, but I've been using zombie detection range and speed together. As for perks I'm in that area where I'm just putting on random stuff or throwing crap at the wall to see if it sticks.

I @ed you on your profile but I honestly don't think those ever send out notifications cause I never get any either.

I interchange DsH and Small game a lot. DsH is my favorite to learn totem spawns in new and reworked maps, especially indoors. After memorizing them, I start using Small Game for the totem counter and bc it doesn't require activation.

Stake-Out is a nice off-meta perk, but it's been a while since I used it. If you can consistently land Great Skill Checks, it's better than resilience IMO as the devs recently buffed the chance to trigger skill checks with toolboxes by 5 times. I am yet to test after those changes, but it has a place in my heart :p

Oh ok I getcha! To be honest outta those 3 builds you listed I really dig the idea of the Repressed Alliance build. I could see it coming in clutch in quite a few situations. Especially against ruin or other perks/situations. Probably the one I'll end up using or attempting to use. I love underrated perks alot lol

Mind me asking what exhaustion you typically run?

  • @lagosta said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2264176#Comment_2264176

Not sure about making this feature baseline, at least not for the current implementation of WGLF. I believe the current hook-bomb issue is due to people farming stacks and making it baseline removes the decision factor of when I want to have farming matches and when I want to play with interesting full builds. It would just make the problem spread even more, IMO. Attaching the tokens to perks with similar niches would at least grant some freedom. Some points that could reduce the dependency on those perks are:

    1. Attaching 1 token to each perk slot. If the perk activated 1 time in a match, you get a token for the slot. So if you use each perk at least once in a match, you're rewarded with 100% extra BP.
    2. Adress the main issue and reduce the grind but removing perk ranks. Suddenly the biggest BP sink in the game is gone.

I use different builds for grinding along with WGLF:

    • Exhaustion + Small Game + Inner Strength: lots of heals and totem hate. Very good for tanking protection hits for tokens.
    • Exhaustion + Spine Chill + Iron Will: general build when I am not in the mood for jump scares or want an edge against Spirits.
    • Exhaustion + Repressed Alliance + Spine Chill: Repressed allows me to go for rescues/chases while blocking ruin/pop and highlighting the aura of the gen for my teammates to complete. Very good build in higher-level gameplay.

Welp you sold me on that idea, I much more prefer that way of getting stacks lol Just one activation of a perk grants a stack....freedom of perk builds without overly effecting gameplay..I dig it. I also think there's alot of bloodweb bloat especially on the surv side.

About your builds, sorta expected something along the lines of: Repressed Alliance, Detectives Hunch, Steak Out.. because those are the perks I hear you mention alot!

Nope, they already feel mandatory for anyone grinding for bloodpoints, most of the community in fact.

What they need to do is attach the same extra BP tokens to other perks and make it so you can benefit only from the one you get the most (up to a max of 100% extra). That way, we can diversify our builds while grinding.

I'd actually argue that they should make those bp gains a built in feature so we'd stop having to use bbq/wglf just to get bp and rather have those perks be used for the ability they grant like BBQs aura reading. Because all adding that bp gains to other perks would result in the same problem, youd have to take that specific perk over another u may want more because of the bp gains. I'd change 90% of my builds to something I actually wanted, if that would be the case.

It just sucks feeling like I only have 3 perks to ever work with bc I don't wanna gimp myself out of gains while grinding out unlocking perks for everyone. That's just me tho

Side topic: Anyways mind me asking what your survivor build is? Assuming it has wglf on it like mine always do lol....mostly wanna try a diff build, always gotta have that perk equipped bc I am NOT missing out on those bps.

  • How dare you.

In all seriousness. I'm probably gonna p3 Nemesis and get all perks on him then maybe add Jill into my rotation of survs that I main since I think she's a cutie. (Cheryl main here).

Plus if they ever add Ada...instant ada legendary skin main

Survivor: Borrowed Time, WGLF, Desperate Measures, ~Flex Pick~

Makes bringing the game back from the brink of a loss a lot easier. My 4th perk is almost always Unbreakable, Adrenaline, or an Exhaustion.

    Killer: Ruin, Pop, Tinkerer, Shadowborn

Ruin-Pop-Tinkerer is both powerful and satisfying to use. It's essentially 3 perks with the strength of 5. Shadowborn is just for comfort but the build has room for it since the first 3 are so strong.

    Really like your survivor build!

You plan on incorporating any of the new RE chapter perks into your build? Like resurgence/counterforce/rookie spirit? (Those stood out to me as fun perks).

Also which of adrenaline/unbreakable do you use more between the two?

This gives me giant Call of Duty Cold War vibes. And not in a good way. Cod players will understand

Yup reason I dropped cod. Miserable with friends. I'll end up just playing less or not at all sadly. People are more than welcome to enjoy it, but I'd rather not be forced to play in a sbmm/mmr mode with no option of "unranked" so to say.
