Excellent post. Charge the userbase out the arse and then have them do free work for you when they're running out of ideas.

"Great idea playerbase we charge every 90 days on top of huge amounts of overpriced skins. We'll take your idea and charge you for it!! :)"

    Well aren’t you a sunshine? :D

this thread was freely created by a forum member and not by BHVR. Giving feedback and suggestions is also something done in every gaming forum.. and there are tons of creative and fun suggestions in the ‚Share your work‘ section but the devs are still creating their own content…

and DbD isn’t ‚charging‘ anyone ‚out the arse‘. Every original chapter can easily be bought with shards which you just accumulate by playing. And skins are completely optional and can also be bought by shards in most cases… literally no one forced you to spend more money on this game than what you have to spend on the base game and maybe licensed chars, but you surely understand why they cost money right?

How do you define an infinite loop? Because i think being able to go through a window 3X where a killer cant catch up then go through a different loop where the killer cant catch up then right back to the first loop is kinda infinite (look at cowshed on coldwind)

Sounds like either very bad (and rare) rng or you did something wrong. Not blaming you, but I am -as i said- a bad Killer player. But I have yet to see a real infinite (only really started playing killer with the first tome)

I don't believe that Ormond is balance.

It still big and survivor that are a bit good can be annoying on it.

I don't think the dev know how to balance maps properly seeing how we have hawkin and current Gideon.

The only map that I think is more balance then the rest is saloon. Being small with loops that can be mind game at while having only a few safe loop in the map but I do think that need some changes to it to be better.

Gideon was badly reworked. But Ormond is objectively viewed now in a way way better place than it was before.

keep in mind most reworks were only supposed to be graphical upgrades and not balance reworks.

Hawkins is only not entirely survivor or killer sided, it very much depends on the killers power.. we are also not sure if it gets a rework or not..

  • actual infinite loops used to be a thing but aren’t any more.

Ormond rework made one of the most survivor sided maps pretty balanced (though the Game was overdone and needs adjustments with the safe pallets)

Playing killer is not as difficult as you make it out to be, this is said by a pretty bad casual killer player that uses a controller. Many survivors are also casuals and can’t run you for 5 gens straight, not even on red ranks.

sore winners are on both sides, usually they don’t win that much and that’s why they have to ‚rub it in‘, but keep in mind, that’s not survivor specific. Head nodding, hook slapping and letting people bleed out without any reason is often seen by killer players.

it seems like you are burnt out and only see the bad side of you matches. You need a serious distance from the game, maybe play surv if that’s so easy for you or do something else. Also hope for a working MMR system and give it a chance. Obviously it will not make every match perfectly matched though.

  • it only prevents the players you block from sending you friend invites. It was introduced when they also introduced the in-game friend list and crossplay friends I think.

Wasn't this in a tome a long time back though? I know average wait is 6 months but I'm pretty sure it's been longer than that and ive been playing since August last year

6 months is not the average wait time but the minimum wait time.

for the first tome the wait time for the first cosmetics in store were around.a full year it think.

  • i would kinda expect some mention in the anniversary stream. Next week on Tuesday. Not a guarantee that it will be featured of course but since they said they will talk about a roadmap for the year I guess it’s pretty likely

  • I think there are just too much of them and they make the other green rarity offerings rarer just by existing. Give them their own rarity class in the bloodwebs.

as for specific maps: Haddonfield and Red Forest are still about to get their graphical reworks and will probably both get some adjustments because they are known to be survivor sided..

Yes and no. I gain more points messing around and farming as killer than I do sweating. Admittedly I'm pretty trash most of the time. I do see where sweat killers gain max points sometimes by try-harding. I just mean to say I can just as easily earn the same points a sweat can by goofing off in my own experience

Oh yeah you definitely can get BP this way, but that way dont necessarily increase for 4K chances. Still possible though..

but -as was pointed out- this behavior of not letting the other side have points especially with BPS is not specific for killers. Survs may also go out of their way to make sure the killer gains as few points as possible..

  • you can’t expect them to farm or play super fair just because you bring an offering.

hard tunneling/making the match as miserable as possible for one Surv on purpose is sadly the most rewarding gameplay for killer in terms of BP outcome and winning chances (if it’s not a sweat Squad of course)…

  • Yeah it is considered rude. the scream was implemented by the devs and belongs into the game, if you like it or not. The fact that they stop screaming because of a hit is probably a bug not worth fixing though (it would actually make more sense if the survivors start a new scream then…)

if it’s just one quick hit after the hook i personally don’t mind. But it shouldn’t surprise any killer player that survs might think it’s rude. I mean.. many killers get triggered just because the survs tap the crouch button multiple times…

  • I burn all map offerings that I have regardless of side I am playing. I don’t really think that much about advantages or disadvantages.

i am a casual player and mostly like the aesthetics of all maps, I got bad matches as surv on Haddonfield and bad matches as killer on Hawkins. No need to be toxic towards casual players just because you don’t like the map.

  • I would strongly suggest waiting to see their actually model in-game. The differences to the older (current) version might not be as big as you think they are from those previews (which are also still a work in progress).

    ^ This

Both have their place in the game and both contribute in their own unique ways. Just because you know the stories of licensed killers and what their powers are most likely to be does not necessarily make them any less unique than the original concepts.

And in fact, Dead By Daylight's original concepts which are for the most part well developed, compelling, and interesting characters which can stand on their own two feet aren't even all that original to begin with. Every single original killer has had some kind of previous inspiration, archetype, or story that it is based off of.

As far as inspired by other licenses go:

Trapper has roots derived from Jason Voorhees

Wraith and his power was influenced at least in part by The Predator

Hillbilly is very obviously based on similar themes as Leatherface.

Legion shares some conceptual ideas with Ghostface

The Deathslinger was inspired partly from Stephen King's The Dark Tower book series

The Blight is Dead By Daylight's version of Robert Stevenson's Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

And another chunk of the Dead By Daylight's original cast is based off of folklore, myth, local legend, etc.

The Oni is a perfect example of this, being ripped basically straight out of storybooks that tell of Oni: which is a kind of yōkai, demon, ogre, or troll in Japanese folklore, typically portrayed as hulking figures of blue white or red skin with one or more horns growing out of their heads.

The Spirit is also based off Japanese traditional beliefs and literature, the onryō (literally "vengeful spirit", sometimes rendered "wrathful spirit") refers to a ghost believed to be capable of causing harm in the world of the living, injuring or killing enemies, or even causing natural disasters to exact vengeance to "re-address" the wrongs it received while alive.

The Hag has been said by some to be potentially based on the Wendigo, an Algonquian myth that says those who commit cannibalism will become possessed by spirits, deformed and eventually turn insane. However, it's more likely she's more closely related to Voodoo, Witches, and Witch Doctors due to the nature of her power more than anything else. Although nobody has ever said it can't be a little bit of both.

The Plague is very directly connected to Babylonian Priestesses, Culture and Religion. Not much else to say about that, it's directly written in the lore where she's from.

The Nurse is related more to the standard creepy Nurse (who goes insane) archetype than any specific story, though I don't doubt if I did enough digging that I might find an example of a similar story out from the UK (the nurse is Anglo American)

A very minor portion of the original cast can be seen as based off of real life figures and killers.

The Doctor is well known to be allegedly based on Yang Yongxin, a real life controversial Chinese doctor (Psychiatrist according to google, he's still alive today by the way) who used electroconvulsive therapy on internet addicts to "cure" them of their addiction. I remember the character received a lot of praise on release, especially from those in the Chinese community, for bringing this issue to light and spreading greater awareness about these horrible medical practices. Of course the Doctor could just also be based on your standard archetype of a murderous Medical Doctor (though in Dead By Daylight he's got nothing to do with medicine).

Though I'm not sure if it's confirmed The Clown can also be very easily tied to real life American Serial Killer John Wayne Gacy who performed as a Clown at local parties, charitable events, children hospitals, etc. The Clown from Dead By Daylight can also be somewhat related to Pennywise the Clown from IT, or just your standard archetype of a creepy murderous Clown.

The only original killers I haven't mentioned are the Huntress, and two most recent: The Twins, and the Trickster. But again, with research I have no doubt I could find some origin or source material for the ideas that sparked these characters.

Long Story short, as far as "uniqueness" goes the only difference is that the licensed characters of Dead By Daylight are already so easily recognizable and iconic. They have already proven their worth as characters, and important parts of fictional horror that's why they're popular. People have heard about them and are familiar with their concepts, tones, and themes, and many have proven to be interesting and compelling characters in their own right which have captured the attentions of audiences for literal decades of time. There's a reason why people like them, and there's nothing particularly wrong with liking them. Their source material, or how they appear within Dead By Daylight.

In truth, the question that's left is can any "original" idea- truly be original?

Be prepared, there'll be a quiz next Monday reviewing these concepts.

Holy wall of text, but I do agree with you. though I really like their take on the original killers - even if they are inspired by other stuff. The devs still got the storys, design and feeling super well done, and they work on their own!

  • @Beelzeboop said:

Seems interesting, but would suck to deal with as a survivor.

Plus, it would barely effect SWF, so it would just hurt the already suffering solo queue.

The idea is mostly to make survivor gameplay more interesting and give them something to do. I guess it shouldn’t suck as survivor XD

Maybe give them the ability to stand next to a web and remove it with a short animation (think Glyph challenge). That way they can avoid having to remove them with a longer animation and prepare the area where they want to work on a gen?

the SWF problem can’t really be resolved sadly, but I don’t think this would give them any major advantage or solos any major disadvantage.. at least I hope so.

  • Realistically? I go straight into the void.

  • This game is actually way more balanced than people like to admit. It still has its jarring problems though of course. Mainly matchmaking and FEELING of gameplay (killer might feel more stressful even if they ‚win‘).

if the survivors are very skilled and organized (which is more easily achievable for SWF) the balance tilts to the survivor side. But then you just have to take a very skillful killer player and it evens out (see content creators that main one killer, or even generally; they are mostly complaining that survivors are OP and the game should be more balanced around high skill players while they are high skill killer players that almost always win even against …)

  • I still think it would be a good idea to give the exhaustion status effect an additional (negative) effect for the survivors.

something like louder breathing and/or grunts of pain or minimal slower movement speed. It would make sense and give mindbreaker and exhaustion addons another value.

Dead Hard should be looked at either way and I think they have stated they want to look at it..

  • The killer specific challenges are not required to get to the end of the tome level and progress so I don’t see the Problem.

i actually think it would be weird to have a tome dedicated to one killer but not have killer specific challenges… and even though matchmaking is busted it goes both way, eventually you will get a ‚potato‘ survivor team and get the challenge done.

  • People have also mentioned that the font of the 5 is similar to the font of the original RE3 cover.

i don’t think the chapter will be solely based on one RE game either though.

  • IF Mr X doesn’t turn out to be the killer or legendary skin for the RE killer and IF there wasn’t the problem of different licenses colliding I could see Mr X as a Michael Myers skin..

Birkin as a Blight skin was also mentioned several times here on the forums, I have also seen suggestion for Lisa Trevor as a Blight skin.

also, I wonder why there are not more Silent Hill monsters as legendary skins in the game? The rabbit suits for Legion were such a cool idea..

  • @piggygooik said:

it would be interesting but I doubt since almo said they weren't going to do A. I killer powers but maybe they will do since it is the 5th year anniversary after all

I am pretty sure at some point we will get an AI based killer power despite what they said..

but I wouldn’t expect it now, as I think first they should introduce bots for DCers and training mode just like they have on the mobile version…

  • Twitter guy/gal is a funny troll, I like them very much :)

  • @NightmareKiller said:

Oh great as if survivors weren't op enough now they are going to have safe rooms to save the game where the killer can't get in?

    Wut?

How would you even assume that this would ever be a thing?

  • It could very well take some time to get connected I think..

if it really isn’t working, I guess best way is to create a support ticket:

    https://support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

  • Could you add the source to the OP (if it is not related to a leek site of course)

  • Calm down, relax. This was just one match.

those kind of matches exist for both sides, imagine a complete soloQ surv team, without any Meta perks against a God Nurse slugging all 4 at 5 gens with the best addons and perks. (And no, it’s not on them, they are just casual players, you shouldn’t have to be a pro to a a fun time, it is just a game after all)

the game is generally in a good spot in the vast majority of matches. Many broken things on both sides got nerfed, the devs don’t favour one side. There is still much work to be done though, especially on matchmaking which is the cause of most of the problems if you ask me.

  • I think Wraith or Trapper are very good for beginners.

they are essentially M1 killers so you will learn the basics.

Trapper can block some loops that may be too strong and Wraith can help finding a Surv and getting a first hit. Be cautious of survivors with flashlights though, especially for beginners they tend to lightburn you a lot

  • @fogdonkey said:

It was confirmed by devs that the new killer is Nemesis. Also they are adding in the end only a single killer, because two killers could create too many bugs at the same time. Especially if we take into account that also a new survivor item will be added, a new map, and also MMR will finally go live + a new game mode.

Oh look, the troll again :)

  • From that least probably a scarecrow, whose power somehow incorporates the crows

but I actually want to see a killer that has an insect or spider based power.

  • You mean the blocking in the end game score screen?

it prevents the player to send you friend invites. Nothing more.

  • Not really OP especially if you know the surv runs it. But definitely a powerful perk!

i think another downside to exhaustion would be something that the game needs tbh, which would be a small nerf to all exhaustion perks. Something like grunts of pain/breathing is a little bit louder or running speed is minimally slower (test out what number works, probably something less than 1% decrease though?)

  • @Lord_Tony said:

if most of my games consist of all 4 survivors running dead hard then clearly this perk is overused and overperforming.

but any overused, overperforming killer perk would get nerfed in months.

    Love the double standards.

    @onemind said:

I dont like to agree with bait players but ruin was nerfed because 87% of the killer base used it. Undying was nerfed because a large amount of players used it.

I wonder what the % of survivor perks are used

Ruin and Undying were not solely nerfed because they were overused. Otherwise BBQ would have been nerfed hard already..

especially for Ruin they have said this was only one of the arguments to change it.

also they have said they will look at Dead Hard either way. But maybe just it’s performance in regards to dedicated servers.

  • kate is one of the survs with the most outfits available.

when does Jeff get a new (not recollect) outfit is the real question!

(i would also ask for an Adam outfit, but I already have a hard time deciding what to use on him now, as most of the stuff he has is damn great)

  • I wouldn’t expect a RE teaser, but maybe something else?

As it’s the anniversary chapter I am expecting something more than just licensed content to be added. Maybe more character model update teasers, maybe map rework (if there is one alongside the RE map, which fully expect), maybe anniversary event teaser?

  • What are you talking about?

OP clearly talks about the change that now every match has an obsession regardless of perks and addons

  • @Lord_Tony said:

But every survivor had DS so they didn't need it.

Now DS is nerfed they get what they want

No. Not every survivor had DS. And there have been matches without any obsession before. But yeah the majority had it.

survivors still asked for an obsession every match.

  • Survivors asked for an obsession in every game since the introduction of obsession mechanic.

there is probably another reason why the devs decided to have an obsession every match. Maybe ask that in the next Q&A (speaking of that, seems a long time since the last one..)

Well, Resident Evil is action-adventure, not PvP. That removes the aspect of humanity from the monsters and horror. Nemesis doesn't teabag you, after all.

Weird, I could swear I have seen it being labeled a horror video game, horror survival, maybe horror-action…

  • That was not the question :)

you don’t have to like it or find it scary but that doesn’t make it not-Horror. Same for DbD..

  • @ShamelessPigMain said:

No. A horror game is going to be wildly in favor of the killer, since the point of horror is to fear inevitable mortality. DBD, along with most similarly-themed PvP games, is a slasher.

Wait.. so Resident Evil is not even a horror game?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if a killer hits someone but they get away with BT, doesn't that not count as a safe unhook because the survivor was damaged?

And for clarification, the survivor would have to actually get 80 seconds of repair time, not just pop a gen.

No, if someone gets hit with Endurance the unhook will still be safe. BT pretty much guarantees a safe unhook except for when a good and dedicated Bubba gets a double hit with one chainsaw swing or if the survivor runs into the killer after getting hit with the Endurance effect

I'm not sure why Wraith's tome story would suddenly mean he doesn't deserve to be freed. Unlike Nurse, who was manipulated into a murderer in a time if mental strain and grief, Phillip lost everything. I mean I'm completely biased, I admit that, but I don't think Nurse and Wraith are anywhere near the same. Both times we know Wraith murdered anybody it was because they were objectively bad people. People that killed for money. Nurse euthanized people because they weren't pure. Neither are okay, don't get me wrong, but I don't think they're anywhere close either.

I definitely agree that Adiris deserves it, but I don't think Wraith's tome makes him less deserving.

I'm also probably just getting too into the lore.

oh I just think Adiris deserves it a little bit more after reading Wraiths tome. He is definitely up there in the top three I would set free still, that’s why I mentioned him.

but he did let his anger and thirst for revenge be careless for those that needed him and that actually saved him before. And he might be my number one choice after I re-read Adiris backstory or after her tome story gets revealed…

Oh you did? What's the item? Sorry if it looked like I copied your idea.

    Pocket knife

i didn’t want to imply you copied me! I am pretty sure the concept on itself was posted in fan creations countless times before :)

  • I just have posted an item concept in the Share Your Work section that pretty much does what you have as an additional effect on Flip Flop.

but yeah, hard agree on all of Ashs perks needing some rework to make them worth running.

  • Survivor:

Claudette, she seems like such a. Ice and innocent person (well most do.. but she seems also very sensitive and needs to have her free space, the others mostly feel like they can comfort each other)

Maybe Elodie instead, as her experience in the Entity’s realm combined with her experience and knowledge before might help her trying to save the others somehow?

    Killer:

After Nurses and Wraiths tome story’s I guess I would pick Adiris at this point. She seems like the most innocent out of the cast and was just misguided due to her religious beliefs.
