  • As someone noted before/elsewhere, the devs are also dealing with covid right now, so things will be a lot slower. And hey, at least they didn't go and wait 3+ months to half-heartedly 'fix' a bug that made the game unplayable after banning people who been able to point out the codelines precisely and made mods to fix it.

  • It's mostly graphical and sound issues, but nothing game breaking for the majority of people like last time.

  • I think it's an issue with a lot of tinted glasses. Jane has the same problem. they didn't so much replace the glasses, as there seems to be an issue with the colour in their texture.

  • Are there unique animations and stuff for killers? Or would that be too big spoilers?

  • @xenotimebong said:

Nobody wants to answer an “honest question” when you proceed to argue with everyone who answers it and agree with people who circlejerk about how everyone who disagrees with you is just incapable of adapting.

“Honest question: why do Deathslinger players enjoy playing him? If you play Deathslinger you’re just incapable of learning how to chase well as killer and want easy downs I guess. Just asking!”

Your argument would have more weight if you wouldn't have said

'You might as well ask why Deathslinger mains don't go and play the way some survivors demand every killer must be played so that survivors don't have to adapt'

  • Have the same issue on Deathslinger and Plague. Their load-in animations are broken for some reason. This might be as there are possible new animations for one of the event items that allows them to rush?

  • The sound balance in overall and on all platforms is all over the place since the patch.

A lot of killer sounds are cut short as well (deathslinger's chuckle as well as his aim (on both sides), huntress' wind up yell etc).

The ambient sound is off as well, and there's now crows that make the AFK sound in such regularity and volume that it's a pain.

And then there's the broken load-in animations on many killers.

  • @Falkner09 said:

The simple reason they hate him is that he alters the exploits they're used to using against most other killers, and they simply do not want to change tactics. In fact, for many, doing so never occurs to them. So they keep playing in ways that work great against other killers, but not against him. It doesn't occur to them that maybe they shouldn't have gone for the low loop. Maybe they should have stayed away from certain areas before the chase began. Maybe they should have ignored the window, and so forth.

You see the same thing with Pyramid Head.

"theres no avoiding the hit once you're at the window/pallet! He beats DS/BT/unbreakable etc.!

"Ok, so you shouldn't have ran for the window/pallet. Don't rely so much on those 4 meta perks, use other skills and switch up your build with 1 or 2 others." and they just BS their way through this conversation, refusing to address the idea that they might consider new tactics, claiming it's unfair that new killer X can beat the narrow set of skills and approach to the game they've focused on.

It's also a problem with the fact that survivor play never changes. I mean, every killer is different, and must be played differently. It would be absurd for a Billy main to complain that Huntress is too slow, because obviously she shouldn't be played like Billy. Yet survivors expect every killer to work the same for them. Their gameplay style sort of breeds this narrow viewpoint on how the game should work.

    ^^^

this. and it's what I mean when I'm baffled at things like the gate healing. Especially in a scenario where they have gotten injured near the gate and they still sit down to heal and teabag while Deathslinger reloads. I had high ranks that still healed and teabag when I missed that shot and reloaded again.

Why? The amount of points for late heals isn't that high...

That's not how that works in many maps and please stop saying "just use x perk" already.

The counterplay to a good deathslinger is dropping safe pallets instantly without attempting any sort of mindgames (even then he can potentially hit you with good addons on some loops) or using your skill anywhere with the exception of some certain pallet loops. Really fun right?

so you are saying he's 'unfun' because some people know how to play him?

  • Alright, question:

You are up against trapper: do you run past a pallet trying to stun him?

You are up against clown: do you run him into a narrow area/gym corridor?

You are up against hag: do you run towards a hook/a glowing totem? Do you ignore totems?

You are up against Plague: Do you cleanse?

You are up against Pig: Do you rush gens?

Ah just use spine chill, as well as iron will and fixated and off the record for spirit, an obsession perk so you don't get tunneled, kindred too for solo.

    Oh wait 4 perks. Nevermind

no. just spine chill and use your eyes.

Seriously, Deathslinger's counterplay is by all means the same as Myers... or are you usually the survivor who boosts Myers to T3 before the first gen pops?

As if survivors get a choice in deciding where generators are. You do know maps like Rotten Fields, Thompson House, or hell, even some maps notorious for Dead Zones like Gas Haven or Aazarov's Resting Place exist, right? There's even more maps that can plop gens right into dead zones, or right into corners with next to nowhere to run to (which is why I usually target those gens first -- but sometimes the killer does too).

Sometimes survivors may not even know he's coming until he's literally 16 meters on top of them -- and still may not even know because the generator noises cover up a good chunk of that small 16 meter terror radius. This is very often a problem against him in corn maps, unless the survivor is using stretched res to see over the corn, which I certainly refuse to do.

Because you can't run spinechill, look around in general... and... are you implying Deathslinger can look through the corn?

There's a reason a lot of slinger mains hate coldwind and swamp with a burning passion

How is it easier to dodge an instant fully charged huntress hatchet with next to 0 tell? By the time you see him begin to ADS on your screen, he has literally already shot on his.

There's no physically, intentionally dodging that. You are just ducking and weaving pre-emptively hoping he misses. I'm sorry, but I don't find that fun.

Yeah sure, survivors can block his chain -- but it's not like he isn't getting a free hit from that regardless. I mean, people can body block Huntress hatchets too. I do it all the time.

Why would you run Deathslinger out in the open to begin with?

That's like trying to run clown or doctor in one of the small bathrooms on lery's or the lower part of the church.

  • Yeah, the load-in animations of killers are borked. All others are fine, thankfully, but this is really weird... Think it has something to do with them possibly adding new animations to the killers for the event (as apparently one event item allows them to rush and all)?

  • @BattleCast said:

I don’t see why a DS wouldn’t aim before ADSing. You just align the survivor with the middle of the screen and do a quick M2 M1.

All ADSing does is warn the survivor “HEY IM GOING TO SHOOT YOU!”

Because you can't really aim before ADS (unless you do have massive fps experience) due to the limited range and miniscule hitbox. one small move on either side and the aim is off.

Also there is a chance the aim gets a sudden twist to it, which seems to be intended and semi-random.

  • Why are people so certain that the only way to 'fix' things is to make DBD2 instead of step by step rebuilding things in what we have?

  • @[Deleted User] said:

My biggest issue with him is his near instant ADS.

It'd be like if Huntress could instantly wind up and whip a hatchet at you. It's just a lose-lose situation. Either you zig-zag around to try and dodge and he just waddles up to you easily, or you run in a straighter line and he gets an easy shot off on you.

The instant ADS however requires some FPS experience to be pulled off successfully with the frequency some people claim it's being pulled off.

And that's what I meant about learning what he can shoot through/over. So many people try to run him like they'd run Huntress, as if they believe doing so will suddenly change his ability.

Your average Deathslinger player will probably need about as long as a regular Huntress to ADS and shoot, the whole 'just have the surv in the middle of your screen' argument is pretty nonsensical (again, only pans out if someone has massive FPS experience).

And even giving him a definite wind-up time wouldn't do anything about the second point: people blatantly ignoring what his power can do. Like, the know he has a set range, the see the reload animation go through, and still they stand there as if they expect him to walk up and try to m1 them instead of using his power.

Idk I always think to just play the match out. I might play a little bit more of a scumbag if the opportunity arises but that's really it. Unless they're all running sprint burst and object and send me to Midwich. I refuse to play that out and will just DC (and if I get banned for saying this then lol see you on the other side because I know admitting to DCing on the forums is punishable by death by the mods.)

funnily enough, when that happens, at least that's what i observed, find yourself a nice spot and go on a 'smoke break*... like, don't pretend to be afk. just... be on a break. often the survivors will come to you and try to get you into attacking them etc.

I once ran a match where it happened and I ran devour hope. they didn't even try to do bones, popped 2 gens and then looked for me to be annoying. The match was over fairly quickly after that when DH got its stacks in.... twas fun

Play the game? Idk either they're not very good and have no idea how to use object and spine chill or they're actually good and would've had a good chance of winning even without those perks. You're not expected to win against that, just like you're not expected to win against a good nurse. Just play it out, move onto the next one because you're probably not gonna have many matches where every survivor has object and spine chill. That's incredibly rare.

Best tactic against that combo: Don't give them what they want but take the reigns. They think being like that holds the biggest entertainment value, try to take the mic from them. it's tricky, but can work out.

No its understandable, but how would call of duty be if they turned it into a puzzle game? Or in this case if cod became strictly 1v1 or 1v4 now the whole game is changed and its not even good. 3 Survivors is not enough and 4 is, unless gens are too fast. Adding a new gameplay mode would be cool and add more players. But changing the core gameplay is a bold but pointless move and often destructive. And it starts to show that denying these changes isn't fear or bad its logical

    It's not logical.

The 'logical' leap people (you too, sorry) are making is that they sort games by the wrong measures.

CoD is what it is, the 'lore' there doesn't allow for much more than that. But DbD is different. It's more like, as silly as this may sound, Pokemon:

You have your setting, your lore, and what happens based on it is what makes the gamemode.

A 1:4 mode as we have it now would be as possible as a scavenger hunt or 'murder in the dark' (that's among us' genre iirc).

In short: CoD is a FPS because it is made as such and the lore is made to fit that.

DbD can be various things because they would fit with the lore.

Hell, even a single-player puzzle game like 'The Room' or 'House of DaVinci' could theoretically work if it focuses on the characters' lore.

    @[Deleted User] said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1689374#Comment_1689374

Well agreed, but my point is that you wouldn't really be able to use new content for both 1:4 and 2:8. Like, maybe you could make a new realm and you could re-use assets in both a 1:4 and 2:8 map, but there's no way you could play both game modes on the same new map and have them both be balanced.

That's what I meant. But also, yeah, the old maps need an overhaul as well. Just adding breakable walls won't cut it. I'd say the main issue is that a lot of maps are centred around the killer they came with: Swamp is ideal for Hag, Lery's is ideal for Doctor, etc, while on other maps a killer might fall flat.

How well they do on 'fish out of water maps' on average without perks/on adept mode is a pretty good measure for how powerful a killer is, I'd say.

The trouble is that the balance of a 2v8 and 1v4 game would not be the same. Imagine two Forever Freddies playing at the same time, for example. You would have to fully rework the maps, perks, etc. to make that work. It would be like a whole new game balance-wise. This couldn't go hand in hand with balancing the existing 1v4 game, then; it would just divert resources from it.

Alternatively, a 2:8 mode could come with complete new maps that come with more objectives that must be done on either side. but otherwise, yeah

  • @[Deleted User] said:

Pretty much the only game mode I've seen multiple people ask for is 2v8, and that would be a balance nightmare on the current small, 7-gen maps. Given the amount of work necessary to balance this mode, to add larger maps that would better support it, etc., I don't think the juice is worth the squeeze.

I don't think people usually don't want new game modes. They would just rather the core game be more balanced, performance be better, etc.

It would likely be something that goes hand in hand:

Balancing/overhauling the current game and its mechanics and adding in new modes.

For example: Fully dynamic points would maybe encourage more varied gameplay, helping to balance things. Right now you only get 'unique' point boost for certain killers (be it as killer or against them), but no real boost if you play different against them. There's killers where the 'engage in chase and loop while gens get done' doesn't really cut it, yet you won't get significantly more points for e.g. staying out of those killers' sight. I reckon a lot of people would stop trying to engage e.g. myers in a chase (thus letting him stalk them) if they'd get more points for breaking LoS or avoiding him entirely.

  • I think the toxic level seems higher cause the DC penalty came alongside the Rank Reset. People already get scummy on reset day... it just added up.

  • @Bravo0413 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1689214#Comment_1689214

I get what you're saying but atm "among us" is popular, like I never heard of "town of Salem" etc... so DBD creating a mode like "among us" would sort of be piggy backing off of it thus saying "we wanna be like them" where bhvr is king of its own genre.. i don't think it would be good business wise, because why would the players not just play among us at that point?

You might as well ask why people play Among Us AND Town of Salem. Or why they play various FPS. etc.

  • @Bravo0413 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1688959#Comment_1688959

Now I can understand the "among us" mode smack down because if bhvr were to do that it'd be like saying "among us" is better... and DBD is king sooo..but yes other ideas should be tested at least because the game needs to evolve.

well, 'among us' itself is a game in the same vein as Town Of Salem, Werewolf etc. People will always compare apples to oranges, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.

And, lbr, it's exactly and unfortunately that kind of player that will call for a nerf if something meddles with their plans to annoy the killer

  • Deathslinger's outfit with the rolled up sleeves.

Exactly, I think this needs to be talked about more. I myself am running out of positive excuses for the game team that avoid ridiculing them.

    Yeah :/

And then there's suggestion for smaller modes and features that get put down by the community where it's frankly ridiculous.

Like a colorblind mode where the community is certain it be unfair and would be used for cheating. Or a 'nightmare mode' where you wouldn't have the red stain, TR or music outside of chases.

  • @ToxicMyers said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/198830/afraid-of-change

Personally i have never seen any rejection to a new mode, however i have seen it with people asking to yeet core game mechanics like hooks or generators

    I have.

Mode suggestion in question I can name from the top of my head:

    1. A gamemode similar to Among Us or Werewolf and similar games, that would come with a roleswapped roster of the original characters.
    2. a scavenger mode to replace/simplify the bloodweb
    3. 2:8
    4. Maps with more objectives. (like having to do something first to blow up a barrier before you can proceed to the gates)

They all had their fair share of people saying what Raider said the responses are.

There were also ideas floating around to change the way perks and totems etc work, ideas to make the charms something that is not just decoration etc.

All these ideas commonly get smacked down with 'the game can't handle it' or 'it wouldn't fit dbd' or 'it wouldn't fit with the lore.

  • It could work like this:

If a killer genuine camps (so, doesn't stay around chasing*/looking for nearby survivors) the hooked survivor relocates and their timer is reset. I'd go as far as to say that by the second time in a row (looking at you @Sonzaishinai ) the killer stops seeing the new hooks aura, and be the third time the survivor's timer resets to the first phase.

*chasing in this case means genuinely engaging in a chase, not just hitting them and then returning to the hook.

    I think this could work.

Sure, it's not perfect, but if you are looking for something that cannot be exploited... that's impossible.

  • Stealth?

How many killers in general use Whispers on a regular basis?

  • Everything concerning how licensing works. There's a write-up somewhere, but I can't find it.

  • It's a bit of an older exploit, and I don't think it can be easily fixed unless the hook mechanics/models as such get altered to not allow to crawl under them.

Putting him on a little hill/pedestal might work? Could also work against bodyblocking the hook, maybe?

oh wow. I think he has a good number of counters, and it's especially easier to gather your surroundings to keep him from reeling you in. That's too bad-- He's got such a cool backstory and his game play makes matches more... threatening, haha! Oh well, I hope people leave players alone, it's upsetting to see such negativity. I've had moments where I get nervous when I play against Bubba, but I've met some kind, non camping ones who also don't spam the chainsaw, which I find to be fun!

    Mood.

I mean on the other hand some of the most fun people in the community I met are Deathslinger fans, and I'm grateful for the positive feedback I do get for my little fanfic for him.

It's just sometimes very hard when there's a lot of negativity coming one's way because of something like this...

EDIT: What I also saw is the following reasoning for hating on Caleb:

He and Micah from RDR2 look similar, so they must be the same right? And Micah is.... well, I get the hate for him... But he's not Caleb and Caleb's not him, yet people act like it.

    Take this tweet as example:

Where in Caleb's lore is the proof for that? The person certainly talks as if that's 100% backed-up by lore, yet... there's nothing. This' the kinda thing Micah would do.

  • @megswifey said:

It's a virtual cowboy??? People need to calm down. And why would you hate the character and not the person being scummy?? I've had some awesome Claudette teammates recently, and Deathslinger is actually super fun to play against! I once had a teammate in green ranks while the rest of us were red ranks, Deathslinger gave them hatch after I died. I was happy he let them get those points <3!

it's not even about people playing scummy...

It seems to be solely the following logic:

People believe Deathslinger has no counterplay and is thus unbeatable -> people who play him must be scummy and don't want other to have fun -> people who like him are bad, no matter why they like him

As for examples: just look at about every response to a tweet/post/etc by the devs, how many calls for Caleb's removal you get and how harsh these get when someone says he's fine/not as bad.
