do you really think ghostface would of ever got in to DBD if it was never in Scream?
I'm saying with out Scream ghostface costume wouldn't be popular today and would never be in DBD with out Scream there wouldn't been a Scary Movie or at lease not a Cindy Campbell or Brenda whatever her last name was(who cares)
just sick of people saying Sydney Prescott never going to happen I mean why WHY would it never happen like there more survivors then killers
but people still got ghostface but I bet most who got him were Scream fans like myself
and it don't matter DBD GF is not Scream GF it irrelevantit the fact it is ghostface how you think ghostface got so popular it wasn't on it own because if it was never in Scream it just be another halloween costume that comes out ever year no one would care and it wouldn't be in DBD in the first place.
It doesn't matter what made ghostface popular. The scream copyright holders don't have control over the COSTUME. They DO have control over Sydney, but NOT over the Costume or Cindy or Brenda.

ok adding ghostface with out adding Sydney Prescott was the dumbest thing ever,I bet ghostface was a Scream chapter at first why two reason ghostface mori had a cellphone in it and changed last min to camera and one of his perk name was also changed.but I'm sure something fell through but I bet they are sitting on Sydney Prescott model but can't release it right now also bet they are waiting for Scream 5 because neve campbell going to be in it as Sydney Prescott.
why was it dumb because with out Scream ghostface would be nothing but Halloween costume wouldn't be as popular today any wiki on the costume say(best known from the Scream franchise)
so if Ghostface costume never was in Scream it would of never made it into DBD like ever.
cindy and brenda wouldn't be a thing either because Scary Movie is making fun you guessed it Scream and (I know what you did last summer) but mostly Scream.
Your logic is all over the place:
DBD GF is not Scream GF. What made the costume (based on Munch's THE SCREAM) popular is irrelevant. What Scary Movie parodies is irrelevant. If the right holders for Scary movie decide that BHVR can use cindy and brenda and the actresses/their representatives greenlight using their likeness, it doesn't matter what the right-holders of scream say.

That would be fantastic. I'd never be able to play it as a survivor, but I'd be down to slash. ^_^ Heck, just getting rid of the red stain and eliminating TR until you're in a chase would do wonders. Have to do away with gen grabs though or give survivors a different objective (Survive x minutes, grab an item to open an instant gate and locate said gate, ect.) and reduce killer speed otherwise it becomes too much of a power fantasy.
Or give gen-grabs their own struggle/wiggle event. like, that the killer needs to knock the survivor down first before they can take them to the hook.

One of the big kickers when it comes to dulling down the scare factor, is things that make the killer scary, insta downs, jump scares, good stealth or ability to shutdown player's attempts to evade them, get complained about more than anything else.
When I play survivor, I like facing the killers than can pop out of nowhere, shut down loops quickly and generally make me sweat it makes the game scary.
The principle argument about these things are they are boring to play against or there is no counter play.
People don't seem to want scary, they want generic... and any horror survival scenario will suffer in the scare factor as a result.
They should allow for a 'nightmare mode' or something. regular gameplay, but no music (except chasemusic, maybe), no red stain, no TR at all. Killers are scaled down to 'human' size (if human). other perks work as usual, heartbeat is combined with spinechill.
smaller speedboost when hit, scratchmarks lasting longer, automatic bloodhound and all ears.
Survivors get skillchecks to keep quiet when injured and not moving (so no iron will/calm spirit)
-
Ya know... screw sydney. If anything bring in cindy and brenda alongside the ability to smack the killer with a depleted item.

I do know konami is a bad partnership obviously we know what they did to Kojima, and it surprises me that bhvr would deal with them, but pyramid head is a great addition nonetheless and one of my favorite characters, so I commend bhvr for this and they have my eternal customership for it.This one game character opens up a door for someone else to come through wink wink
The paid rift thing though probably has nothing to do with SH most games now have a rift pass it's just the way of growth for games to give back to the community and make some extra cash as long as thier actually purchasable nothing wrong with spending 10 dollars for more than less you know you're not obligated to buy these passes for a few extra nic nacs right.
Yeah. but I regularly see people that seem oblivious to the fact that licenses have to be paid for.
-
@TheStabbiNAngeL said:
I like Sydney Prescott ,what's wrong with having you're favorite survivor or killer on dead by daylight a game that's totally capable of handling that? You strike more of an aliens guy.
Thing is this: Sydney would be a licensed character. GF is NOT the guy from Scream. BHVR would have to purchase a new license for Sydney, which means more costs.
It's bad enough that PH (konami) is in the game. Not because of the killer and what came with him, think about the SH cahpter what you may, but because konami is notorious for being really nasty when it comes to selling and handling licenses. it's not too far-fetched to say that a lot of the 'everything's on the payed rift now and there are so many overpriced linked cosmetics' is an effect of purchasing the SH licenses.

stealth. i know that's not the answer you want to hear, but the counterplay to caleb is... stealth.
He's been a bounty hunter, and that's how you counter him. you hide, evade and stuff.

No its not, since its not holding game hostage.
By that logic, survivors who tbagg at the gates until EGC timer runs out should also be banned, since both is only to bm the other side.
Okay, so, you have someone slugging fairly early on, and then just waiting out the bleedout. How exactly is that the same as 'the gates are open and survs just don't leave'? the game has already happened at that point, compared to the first scenario.
Say,... being a scummy players is not your get-go tactic that you defend it like this, is it?

I'm with you. I don't neccessarily enjoy chases, I do like that it gives you more bloodpoints and all but honestly I like the idea of moving through the map looking for gens and totems and making my way to hooked survivors to help them out. That's what I find the most fun.
And lbh, there is something oddly satisfying in looking for totems, you just found a/the last dull one, last gen pops, the bloody thing lights up just before you finish cleansing it.

Short answer, NO. being slugged isn't a real reason to DC and the killer should not get punished for playing the way you don't like.
Read my post again:
It's not plain slugging in the example: It's slugging and then doing nothing but waiting for survivors to bleed out (maybe knock them down again if they have unbreakable)
That's a difference.

I agree, chases are the only thing that are actually fun. Killers like spirit and pyramid head are killing the game. Slowly but surely.
No, chases aren't fun to everyone. It's an odd believe, but to some people clever evading the killer is more fun. Showing how well one can use the enviroment.
As people said, fun IS subjective, but this community is so dead-set on what you said, that only chases are fun, and that some killers are thus ruining the game because they require a change of that tactic. Which is, in a way, telling people who don't enjoy chases (for what reason ever) that they are not welcome.
Also, I don't think the kate was a streamer, dunno.
But the point stands: when you get obnoxious because people don't cater to you, there's something amiss. If you begin ruining the match for others cause you don't get your way, wth.

@Maperson said:
Is it camping when I hook the survivor, and all his teammates get close to the hook and I don't leave the hook because I see them?
depends. the game can tell if you are genuinely engaging with the survivors or just scare them away. Camping I'd say is when you just hit people to scare them away from the hook and/or tunnel the person who just got unhooked instead of hooking who you might have downed in the process.

Ugh, yeah, the skin suggestions that are just more goofy than anything. Character suggestions like Scooby-Doo, not sure how that doesn't take away from atmosphere.
and then the same people will go and mock and badmouth suggestions like map-based collections for all original characters (like, old west outfits based on glenvale, hospital staffs based on lery's and where the nurse worked etc), citing that that would be 'unrealistic'
-
I think the devs ARE trying to somehow encourage different playstyles, but end up missing the mark (unfortunately). We need a change in game mechanics to encourage different styles, then the challenges will be more fun automatically.

Same people that say colorblind mode would ruin atmosphere probably want dancing emotes added to the game. 🙄
Colorblind settings should've come before the graphic update, or at the very least at the same time.
Not even dancing emotes, but i've seen it here and there that they call for cosmetics or killers or survivors that would... not really work (child survivors, for example... and just... no. or 'clothes destruction' look, people, they're not going to add anything from 'Don't (bleep) in the Woods' no matter how much you insist)
-
I hate it when people say 'but a colorblind mode would ruin the atmosphere'... sorry, but what?

Point at the hook? Though unless you have something really urgent to do, I'd say give the match a chance?

They don't. but means to find and cleanse totems need a slight buff. Be it a totem counter, be it perks like small game narrowing the cone instead of the distance, things like that. So you don't scramble around an area trying to triangulate the totem while the killer comes closer as they saw your aura pop up due to undying.

yeah, seems like it would be annoying. I’ll probably keep away.
if they have unique animations I might check them out in a custom with friends
but yeah, thanks!
all killers have unique mori animation (the type of mori doesn't matter) and some are awesomely nasty. (checking youtube for them is also a good way)
As for custom matches:
What @RaSavage42 said about getting used to killer powers: custom matches are probably the best place to do so. Get a sense for distance, what you can attack through/over etc Likewise it's great for trying out perks on either side

okay! Thank you again! In relation to what is and isn’t toxic my friend mentioned something call a mori? I’m unsure what those are but he said they are very toxic and I would like to confirm.
A mori is an offering you can bring as killer that allows you to 'kill survivors by your own hand'. AKA you can kill them directly after having hooked them a single time and you knock them down again.
There's three types of mori: yellow, green and pink/red (reffering to their icon color): Yellow allows you to kill the last remaining survivor directly, green allows you to kill one of your choosing, red lets you kill all after they have been hooked once.
It's considered toxic as there is no real counter to it, and it very much screws survivors over.
Also some players use it to be a-holes and carry the last survivor to the hatch, close it, and mori them. Which is absolutely a nasty, no-good move. it's just being mean.
The 'equivalent' (so to speak) on suvivor side, are keys, as they allow you to unlock the hatch once it spawned, and can be quite unfair to the killer. Maybe (depending on the match) not as much as moris, but still.

@RaSavage42 said:
Play this game with a good mindstate
Things will happen:
Camping= Killer stays around hooked survivors
Tunneling= Killer focus on 1 survivor for the whole match
Slugging= Killer downs a survivor but doesn't pick them up ( can happen to multiple survivors as well)
Looping= survivor(s) who like to run the same area with the killer chasing
Pathing= running Loops a certain way to 1) get away from the killer... 2) waste killers time
Understanding killers power: killers have sound/visual cues that tell survivors that the killer is using their power
Huntress grunts as she pulls up a hatchet and a sound will play if she has one fully charged
Micky: if he's just standing off in the distance he's most likely stalking to tier up (from 1-2 or 2-3 and his theme plays every time he tiers up)
Wraith's Bell (unless he's using an addon to make it silent)
ETC...
Also: Make sure you only like/play killers and survivors the loud brats of the community approve of. Or if you don't, don't admit to it. They'll tear you apart and than victimblame, telling you to not participate in any bits of the community, be it the endgame chat, social media, this forum, and that it's your own fault for getting hate for liking X.

Cosmetics 'lore' is a bit all over the place.
-
Someone recently made a wonderful thread asking if people want the game balanced around top players or not, because the majority of threads calling for nerfs/buffs/changes seem to point to top players instead of an average.
Add to that the general vitriol the devs are met with no matter what they do...

@Deadeye said:

The stuff around the harpoon is not relevant. That extends the chase by a few seconds. You still can get downs within 10 seconds of chase. Add 2 seconds of reload and 3 seconds of reeling and you are at 15 seconds. I know it is not always that easy and chases are more complex than that. The main point is: You get absolutely no feedback about what he is doing and when the shot will come. You hop around like a bunny, either wasting time or you run straight and be an easy target. You get no feedback from the killer on what to do, same what is complained about with Spirit. And that is unfun.
Of course it would be not fair to simply make his power worse, as he only has this. Which I already pointed out: His power is to end chases super quickly (shooting through holes in the wall, shooting over low loops and simply walk around it to get the hit, having the ability to shoot through windows and get the hit...). He has nothing else and relies on getting the downs quickly, so he can quickly get other survivors off gens for the unhook and probably get the next one on hook before the first one is saved. Because he has NOTHING else than that. He is slow, he has no travel ability.
Also said it already: watch it from survivor side. Against a good slinger, you just work on gens. Once you get into chase (which is the most fun part for many survivor mains), you have like 15 or 20 seconds of action, then youre done. Not much to enjoy. Short chases and boring M1 simulator in between. That's why I said it is bad killer design.
just as example: My favourite killer regarding fun is Demogorgon. He has a map travel ability, he has a power that gives him information and he can counter a good amount of loops with the shred. And all of that has counterplay. You hear his shred charging, allowing you to fake vaults, you can close open portals and the killer can always chose to commit to a chase even into deadzones because he can quickly get back to the gens. This allows a lot if interaction and decision making on both sides.
And one more point: discussion about slinger is fine. Just your initial post "all can be said about Huntress" has a lot of flaws imo
I think the core issue is that people think all people agree chases are the most fun. If you do, that's fine.
I hate Demo with a passion for example, and I take no joy out of chases. I didn't had a single demo match I would have enjoyed. And I know I'm not alone. That demo telegraphs its attacks doesn't make it different. Spirit telegraphs her stuff too, and look how much hate she's getting cause of how people play her.
Sure, the post is flawed, but it's not outright nonsensical like some arguments I see against Deathslinger.
-
@Deadeye But it's what i commonly get from posts calling for Caleb's nerf/removal:
That he will hit you regardless, that he will win every chase, etc, that there is absolutely no counterplay.
Even when people make suggestions TO give him a delay this is the argument people bring against it (aka 'it won't matter because he will hit').
It's bizarre. I mean, look at this thread alone. Many people brought up the shoot from the hip (which takes practice, and even then it's not a guaranteed hit), and that giving him a delay would solve that.
Question then is, would it be fair to the one playing him, as you'd still have the chain between you?
A huntress who hits you with a non-iri hatched still has to chase you, with the charge up being her delay. Caleb, if he hits you, has to reel you in and, if the chain break, suffers a stun and has to reload, and if not, has the regular base attack recovery and a reload.
I think to settled the topic we'd have to thoroughly check these two killers back to back, on all skill levels, which will take some time.
-
They don't actually have any solid arguments. I mean, look at them claiming Deathslinger has no counterplay and that you'd win with him regardless of whatever. Which objectively isn't true. It's always survivors refusing to adjust their gameplay (the same kind that complains about ruin/devour but won't bring Small Game or such and cleans totems).
Zarina is fine, that person is just grasping for straws cause they probably fall for Red Herring or Off The Record on a regular basis.
-
@OldHunterLight said:
In my opinion, deathslinger is fine, same as huntress.
The only thing that I dislike about deathslinger is the start of the chase, most slingers will have M&A, which makes your TR 16m, but the song starts when he is like 12m, giving you no reaction at all.
Huntress is next to old Billy in terms of balance imo, without insta saws of course.
It does start a bit earlier, we tested. If you run Spine Chill it starts shortly before SC rank 3 comes on. (at least going by the tests)
You said that when I defend the design of a killer and his sheer existence I'm not welcome. Which very much equals that I must share your hate for deathslinger, as that seems to be the option you do approve of.

Easy Killer =/= good Killer. Just take a look at Legion or Wraith. As far as landing shots and hitting speared Survivors go, though, yes, 500 hours is more than enough time to get good with this Killer.

Considering the Deathslinger can literally get a good shot on you as long as he can see you, that's once again more up to the Killer's poor positioning rather than the Survivor's good one.
Not every map is Gideon's.
again, it comes down to the player's experience. The position won't matter.

The only annoying thing about DS is faking the aim at windows or pallets to get a hit, same move as PH which will be reworked next patch. He does not have any cooldown if he cancels it, other than that he is just fine.
PH does have a bigger and longer hitbox (there's a euphemism for y'all), and it again comes down to survivors trying to play against Deathslinger (and PH) the same way as against other killers.
(It's the same as survivors waiting on pallets for Deathslinger...)

Huntress has a wind up and her hatchets do immediate damage.
Deathslinger has no wind up, but he has to reel in survivors and survivors are given the opportunity to try to break the chain during the reel.
Their range attacks simply have different ways to counter it. Complaining that Deathslinger has no wind up is missing the actual counterplay his gun is meant to have.
thank you.
That is another factor things boil down to, it would seem: People's unwillingness to adjust their playstyle to what killer they are facing. If you try to go against Deathslinger like you'd go up against Trapper, you're screwed.

So basically, this isn't supposed to be a bait thread, but if someone disagrees with you, it's not that they have valid reasons as to why they disagree. They just don't like you and your character?
I don't mind people disagreeing, but I do mind when people tell me I am wrong by default, which everyone on this forum gets told when they say Deathslinger has counterplay and makes for fun matches for both sides if played well (well in the sense of non-toxic, something that applies to all killers)
Look around. Whenever someone says they like him, where to play or even just the design and lore, you'll get dozens of people saying that's wrong, he's op, has no counterplay, is ugly etc.
I don't see that with any other player. PH gets his fair share of OP threads, but non of the hate Caleb gets.

You could also just, as you said, look around.
Some people apparently CAN look around for Huntress, but utterly lose that ability for Deathslinger.
And given Deathslinger has a very distinct chase music that argument falls flat.
