Ok, so give deathslinger a 1.25 second wind up time before he can shoot if you don't see any differences between Deathslinger and Huntress.

This is usually the time it takes to aim with him due to the small hitbox. Make the hatchet's hitbox the same size as the spear's and we can talk.

  • @lowiq said:

You literally answered your own question in the first sentence of Point 2.

Huntress has to charge up her hatchets. Which introduces interactive counterplay.

Not more than an average Deathslinger aiming. Again, a good Huntress will hit you just the same as a good Deathslinger, and due to the different hitboxes so will an average huntress compared to an average deathslinger.

The Charge Up is nothing as it all boils down to the players.

  • You know what I read in all these threads?

That you are demanding people that like these killers, people that aren't keen on chases etc to uninstall the game, and that they are not welcome in the community.

That they are stupid and don't know how to play 'right' that they suck etc. That their opinions are wrong by default.

All because they like two killers out of nearly two dozens that are a little different to play and play against.

  • Every killer that can keep survivors on their toes without tunneling, camping, slugging, insta-downs and noed. doesn't matter how the match ends, but damn those killers are rare

  • @SkeletalElite said:

Vigo is able to manifest stuff in the entity with some object similar to the auris so he is equally powerful as the archives man basically.

my memory is a little sloppy right now, but isn't it stated somewhere the Observer isn't certain anymore if all his 'own' memories are his own indeed. Isn't there a small chance he is vigo and just forgot/was made forget?

  • Been said before:

The easiest solution (though very tricky to code and execute) would be that the hooks relocate if the killer is camping. the game can tell if someone's inactive on a tile (check with afk crows, moving around on the same tile doesn't count apparently), where someone's looking etc.

So the game could go and move the hooked survivor to another hook and reset the phase if the killer is (proxy-)camping.

It's just very tricky to code to make it hard/nigh impossible to exploit.

  • Lie or not, the devs ought to start looking into HOW a perk is used, not How Often.

Like, Lithe isn't a perk easily abused. Killers have means to counter it at least some. But DS? If you are good and you play fair as killer it's punishing you for being good, and if you are toxic it doesn't do much for the survivors, lbr.

Noed is a similar icky topic. Like, i can understand noed if you got a challenge or are new and need to learn the ropes. but if you are playing any killer that has auto-expose (bubba, ghostface, iri-huntress etc) you should not be able to use it to begin with.

Or OoO. On it's own, in soloQ, it's fine, annoying depending on the player using it, but fine. But in a group? either you play completely toxic and sweaty as killer, or you don't have a chance at all.

Look at him. Looks can tell you a ton about if they're dead or not. He has these ghostly white eyes and in the trailer you can see him move his dislocated jaw back into place. If that's not undead, I don't know what is.

The eyes are the entity's work. The jaw has been broken for a while (see the jaw smasher addon). the entity ramped up the creepy, but I think he's very much alive.

  • @UwUdestroyer said:

    >Survivors genrushing while one tries to engage the Killer in endless chases.

Isn't that how you're supposed to play a game? I mean no hate, just survivors are trying to win, doing gens is the only main task (apart from surviving lmao) and if a killer is sticking to one survivor it's his fault that gens are done quickly. Instead of committing to one surv that you have troubles catching just go for another one. Killer should patrol gens.

And before I am gonna hear anything - I main killer and surv equally.

In the start, yes. But since then so many killers and elements have been added that to play like that leads to frustration on both sides. And seeing how 'fun' is one of the main arguments people bring up against things in the game...

I know what you want to say, but not all killers need to be for the majority of players. If most of them are bad with a killer since they dont play them to their full potential so be it.

    yeah. but that's the thing:

look at the onslaught of threads complaining how X is boring or OP. often enough these threads boil down to said killer calling for a change in playstyle, be it how to go about playing survivor against them, or what perks to use as killer, how to patrol the gens etc. and some very vocal people simply don't want that.

they WANT all killers to be available to all, in the sense that all killers can be approached with the same tactic.

    and that IS boring.

  • The issue is more on the players who don't play the killers to their potential. They'll easily cherry-pick what gives them some advantage, and play the ever same with the rest.

There isn't much any dev team could do about that without overhauling the mechanics from the ground up. which so many players are absolutely averse against when asked.

it's the whole eat your cake and have it thing

  • yes.

you can btw guess if a survivor runs DS by not running obsession perks yourself. DS does trigger the 'make them the obsession' effect. while it's not a definite (it could be OoO or both) it's an easy way to pick your targets.

  • New Chapter, I think I accidentally created the Entity's next pick....

  • Another thing: what is it with several red ranks doing the following against deathslinger:

They're in a chase. They do look behind them. The see Deathslinger being a little to the side. Instead of running/dodging to the other, they do a 90° turn and run straight across his line of side like a metal duck in a shooting booth at the carnival...

    WHY?

  • @thefallenloser said:

    Yikes, this is a post...

Pyramid Head and Deathslinger both zoned survivors for free, with no consequences. if old Pyramid Head was within Punishment range, you would get hit if they had line of sight, because either you drop the pallet and get hit by Punish, or don't, and get hit regularly. Deathslinger just forced survivors to drop all pallets super early and hope the loop is good enough. You can predict where he'll shoot, but can't outplay him, just drop pallets and run to the next safe loop, not to mention his nonexistent TR that gives little warning when you'll get shot. This is a ranged killer, BTW. With no warning. At least Huntress has a lullaby.

No one is complaining about killers who don't chase in the traditional way. Nurse is excellent and players love Huntress, Blight, Oni, etc. Old PH and Hashslinging Slasher are just understandably unfun to play against, and since the Pyramid Head change, we're moving in the right direction since survivors actually have options.

    So yikes.

i'm no good survivor and can't run killers to save my life. but I've been evading high rank PHs without problem. And the 'drop pallets early' is a tactic from which streamer again? If you can use your eyes, you can walk around deathslinger easily. The palletdropping is actually a disadvantage against him. THAT gives him a free shot.

  • @Marigoria said:

Why are you comparing PH with Deathslinger?

I personally find it boring to go against PH but love to go against Deathslinger.

Only in the sense that they both put a stop to the aforementioned routine. PH is much more powerful than Deathslinger, but accournding to some they are both 'boring' etc as mentioned above

  • @Kumnut768 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1667827#Comment_1667827

yes he has this insane chase potential because of his lack of map pressure which is why people want his chase potential toned down and a buff to his map pressure

    Unnecessarily.

He's not meant to be engaged in a chase. People just cling to the idea/outdated statement that chases are the most fun and most important part of the game.

The issue is more that the points you earn aren't as dynamic towards which killer you're facing as they should be. like, give people more 'bold' points against Caleb, but fewer 'escaped/chase' points.

  • @Kumnut768 said:

yes he is not op, yes he does not need changes

but he could benefit a change with the devs toning down his chase potential and buffing his mobility and map pressure this would make him so much more fun to verse

he has the chase potential BECAUSE he has little map pressure and mobility. That's the thing, he IS one of the killers where you have to use your eyes. M&A doesn't change that.

People just cry bloody murder because too many of them run the second-chance build as if killers haven't caught on to it yet, which is quite pointless against Deathslinger. Sure, one can't tell which killer they'll go up against but just replace dead hard with spine chill and you're good.

  • @TheClownIsKing said:

Nothing works against survivors during these time periods.

No matter which killer, no matter which strategy is employed, no matter how loops are run or mind-gamed, I’m just spinning my wheels in place.

Why is this game designed in a such a way whereby experienced, coordinated teams make this game 100% impossible as killer?!

    Literally!!!

Play Deathslinger, no matter how the game goes, these survivors will throw a tantrum how he absolutely has no counter.

  • People tend to label anything 'X ripoff' despite facts to the countrary, because people aren't as clever as they make themselves out to be. AND you will often have people (including companies) outright COMPARE games (also books, movies etc) to something popular despite everything OR proclaim their game to be the 'X killer' (do you know how many games have been touted as WoW killer or anything?)

  • @MrLimonka said:

Deathslinger is fully ok. He doesn't need any changes..

I mean, I know, but look how many people claim he ain't.

@Zozzy I know, I meant a more visible one that pops up before he can shoot (it's absolutely unnecessary if people would learn how to play against him, but alas)

@ChantyBoi Yeah, but people are throwing tantrums over how it's his power in chase and insta-shots that make him 'broken and uncounterable and no fun to face'

  • @28_stabs said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1664634#Comment_1664634

She is 10% slower than survivors in her stealth mode. TR take time to completely fade. Good luck calculating when to crouch with 32m radius. Also, survivors can have spine chill and waste it all.

so, you are saying that M&A is bad in Deathslinger, who can't crouch because you assume people DON'T use their eyes, but Okay on pig who can crouch because people use their eyes? what?

  • @28_stabs said:

Devs nerfed Pig's 28m terror radius, but they dont mind this. No idea what they are thinking. Probably, they are just still selling this killer.

Pig has stealth, and the lunge attack. Plus the RBT.

Hag can teleport, sometimes even silently.

Huntress has her humming, but has an addon for insta-downs from any distance

Caleb has an insta-down add on too, but that is much more restricted than Anna's... He needs to score the sharpshooter counter (so at least 15 meters) reel someone in and hit them. which even in dead zones isn't necessarily possible depending on what add ons are used.

  • @azame said:

So we are supposed to let the killer get a second hook on us? Ight g almost had me there.

azame, we know you have a fetish for being chased, but I thought we agreed you'd stop bringing it up...

  • The thing about DS (as with all hated perks and offerings) is how you use it:

If you DO use it against tunneling, fine. but if you have a killer who plays fair and you use it against the, not fine.

If the killer doesn't camp, doesn't tunnel and perhaps even goes out of their way to not hit you if you run into them after getting unhooked, ignore the DS skillcheck when they down you again fair and square.

It's the same as with moris:

you can bring them, but if there's no need to use them, don't

  • @Pizzaeater4ever said:

I just think ds needs a bigger terror radius. If he has monitor, you're basically dead.

I'd rather go for blocking certain killers from M&A as a whole. Caleb isn't the only killer with a smaller TR, but he's slower than the others.

  • I have something similar, but in terms of maps. For about a week my first match of the day as survivor will be on Glenvale.... Good thing I love the map.

  • see the first sentence of my initial post

    1. yep.
    2. 1, 5, 10 and 15 iirc
    3. depends on your playstyle, really. beware that on pc/console there's probably much more hate towards certain characters, especially claudette, nea and meg.
    4. fragments are only for the current tome, but the old tomes still give BP

And I'd say if you have people to play with, play some custom matches to practice killers first.

    Good luck <3

  • Forget M&A, actually.

I ran it for the longest time, only to find I play better with the below:

    Tremors, Bloodhound, Whispers, Gearhead.

I'm not kidding, I've been winning more matches with this than with the old 'M&A, bbq, etc' build.

  • Basically they got upset they don't run circles round you. the got a massive ouchie to their egos, cause myers is one of the killers that break their stale MO.

It's the same people who complain about and insta-dc against Deathslinger or PH, on account of them 'not having any counterplay' aka the players outright refuse to go stealthy instead of 'showing off their haxx0r l00ping skillz'

  • I'll be honest, this feels a little like a common artists problem. you know, when you just cant draw/sculpt something (hair, HANDS) and you just hide them somehow?

it feels as if the process for this was:

Okay, let's make him look steampunkish. *looks up victorian haircuts* *tries to sculpt* *tries to sculpt* *tries to sculpt* (2000 years later) *tries to scu-* ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff *makes him bald*

  • We are not talking about cozying up with bigots and hateful scum, ffs.

we are talking about beating down people who are on our side and who try to do good because they are not the perfect unicorn that does tricks whenever we demand it in precisely the way we demand it.

As I've always complained to them about, it shouldn't take over 4 years to implement a proper options menu instead of requiring people to dig deep in the game's files to modify a .ini file to change most general settings.

I may not be a programmer, but I know it doesn't take 4 years to implement something so simple like an options menu, just like how I don't need have many years in a culinary school to understand that burnt toast shouldn't be burnt.

In that same vein, I also know the amount of bugs this game is riddled with is very, very abnormal and rivals that of an Elderscrolls title. And this isn't some massive open world RPG. This amount of bugs only comes due to poor spaghetti coding. That's nobody's fault but the devs. So yes, it falls on them to fix it, because it is their fault and it is their responsibility.

People paid money and invested lots of time in this game. If they're unhappy about something, they have the right to complain about it. The game is on the store, it's being sold, therefore it's open to criticism. Not all criticism is good criticism, but it's open to it regardless.

okay, so people messed with an .ini file. would it run on all platforms? is it accessable?

Look, I do agree that some stuff not being done is mindboggling, but to say they don't care at all is bullcrap.

You want to know what a company not caring looks like:

    • An actual gamebreaking bug not being fixed for several months, if not years, and every mod that has been tested thoroughly by the community being deleted and prohibited.
    • A HARDWARE damaging bug not getting fixed for months and the fault consistently being put on the players
    • Custom Content being deleted and creators banned to have the exact same thing with new colours be put up for purchase

And before you go and claim point 1 and 2 are happening: you have no idea.

  • So far I haven't met a SINGLE PERSON who is harassing the devs about fixing the game, or cosmetics, or licensed characters who WOULD KNOW ######### about any of that works,

Seriously, they seem to think coding and art is clicking one button, and that license holders would just throw their characters at the devs. Oh, they also seem to think that EVERYONE working at bhvr can literally be put into any of the departments...

Give the devs a bloody break.

  • This is going to sound snarky, but:

    1. how much coding experience do you have
    2. have you seen how many ideas are contradictory?
  • What would you call

'Self-care, small game, spine chill, kindred'

(yes, I am a bit of a coward, cause I can't run killer to save my life (quite literally), but I try to keep others safe)

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/195631/a-question-for-those-hating-on-deathslinger

I certainly agree with you, but can I also say that deathslinger is insanely hard to go against and increasingly frustrating. You do every single m18 juke but it's ever so hard to juke the shot, because it's "effortless" for the slinger to start aiming. Giving a survivor no time to react before. BAM, the surviver is hit, no time to rouge because there is no charge up time.

Devs. If your reading please, please make a small 3 sec charge up time, but not just that give like a little hint that he's charging up.

Just like for billy and for bubba.

It's just not fun, and yeah I know it's part of the game, but sometimes somethings are just impossible.

But this is not the same as perk builds those are people being smart finding builds.

I know this is off the topic but I feel like I need to say something. Poeple are always complaining about perk builds. I say, ITS PART OF THE GAME! This is a type of game where you want to find these things to help YOU LIVE. And I know you want to make sure everyone has fun. But this is a survival game, where you work as a team to survive. So DS+UB, it's a good freaking build, it's stops tunneling, and yeah I know it's annoying in the end game but. That's the play, it helps you survive. UnD+Ruin fantastic build, it helps slow down gen rushing, which BTW I see complaining about," ohh I'm quitting dbd because every game I get gen rushed. :(". Calm down people, use these "toxic" builds and stop it.

My point is, stop complaining, it's a game, people play the game, you can't control what people want to bring in a game.

Next is SWF, holy crap, can a person play with their friends, I know it's annoying I been matched with a SWF group, hello guys I recall I got a 3k.

My last point is just have fun. Playing the game, look past those frustrating minutes, and go again... Freaking tea bag if it brings you what little joy. Stop caring about what others are bringing in or what there feeling, just try (your) to have as much fun as (you) can.

Okay I'm going to shut up now.

All in all I think one issue is that while the maps are random-ish, they are not dynamic. I think a lot of people would hate Caleb less if the maps would adjust to which killer is played against, to encourage either side to use the abilities to full potential.

    similar with other killers.

  • @sotd_coauthor said:

I think this was answered canonically, that the Killers can't meet each other outside of the trials, except for the Legion, who are always together (I like to imagine them all back in the Ormond Resort).

But on that note its always fun to imagine. Ghostface would probably be really comfortable around the Legion and Amanda, thinking about it they're all still pretty human, and they don't have these superpowered abilities. Pig literally just crouches, and her traps are the ones she designed and used herself. Hillbilly and Bubba, the chainsaw brothers, they'd get along well too. They're similar in their lore, and they can probably connect on a level of both feeling like outsiders from the rest of the world. It would make sense that they would seek each other out. I feel like some of the Killers physically aren't in the same grasp of the entity as the others, like Demo. I feel like they spend a lot of their time in the Upside Down, hunting and breeding. He is a wild animal, technically, and he can access the other world in the trial, so it's not out of the question that he could go there outside of the trials too. Would you think this is the same with PH? I've never played silent Hill, so honestly I have no clue how anything works in relation to that

isn't the statement that the killer can't meet outdated by now?

  • @Rivyn said:

Technically, any game with a 'you vs them' format can do the same, not just DbD.

    Not just those.

It's our society that has us be self-destructively competitive, to the point where we'll turn every game into a competition.

Just look at people getting worked up over their island rating or collections in Animal Crossing.

  • Another absurd thing I observed:

The majority of survivors that complain that you 'can not dodge his shots because instant' are the SAME that will stand in the open gate/hatch WAITING for Deathslinger, tbagging, flashlightclicking etc... and then wonder when they get pulled away and downed.

It's like they don't make the connection between

'if i can not dodge him in a chase I can't react fast enough to leave at the gate either'

  • Also not running any perks that let's them see the other survivors aura (would take away that precious DS slot) and heavens forbid they actually look around...

  • @LetsPlayTogether said:

So tell us how you "shake um your gameplay" vs Deathslinger. There is just no way, so dont tell obvious lies.

    1. stop running your second chance perks and get something that actually tells you if the killer's approaching, be it spinechill, ooo or anything like that. run kindred
    2. pay attention to your surroundings.
    3. stealth. seriously, show us your sneaking skills.
    4. know your gens. genspeed/strategical gen popping IS counterplay against low pressure/mobility killers.

to argue 'but the game rewards chases' is faulty logic: by now there are perks that work against the current 'rewards' (e.g. PWYF) so the statement is outdated

  • @FrostySeal said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1656027#Comment_1656027

Nice strawman. There's probably some people who hate deathslinger for that reason, but most survivors hate him because of the reasons above.

    naw, it's very much that.

because, lbr: the whole 'no counterplay in chases' etc does boil down to 'they don't get to control the match'

just look how an average (fair-ish) match pans out very often against other killers:

    killer find survs

1 surv runs, starts getting the killer away from the other, juking, looping etc ensues. (which is completely okay. it needs practice to be able to do that)

killer potentially downs surv A, picks them up.

the other survivors begin swarming the killer (instead of doing gens)

A might wiggle off, and get chased again (in bad cases they'll claim this is tunneling)

finally A gets hooked (maybe there's gens done at this point)

    Killer leaves hook

A gets unhooked the killer is barely away, if the others having been swarming the hook already.

    etc

Deathslinger cuts that routine short if it's carried out the always same. be it through not letting A get too far away from the group, or by shooting unhookers if they were impatient. (they usually declare that tunneling and camping)

  • I think the coat is a coburn great coat, which, if you can sew, should work well with a basic pattern and the cape added.

  • The issue are the players and especially certain big streamers that got it in their heads that you MUST score the highest/MUST get 4K, must finish the gens in under 4 min/must get people to DC and so worth, otherwise you suck at the game.

If the devs would finally kick those players in the butt and tell them to cut it out, we'd all be a lot happier.

  • not as hard as it might appear I'd say.

Like, you'd automatically get the switcheroo versions with the chapters their originals come from, so, eg you have spirit's dlc, you automatically get Rin and killer!adam.

you'd get full access to whatever outfits you have on your survivor version of a killer when searching for a scavenger match (to better blend in). the game can already tell who is where on the map, so the whole demasking could work on 'did you see it or are you guessing'
