  • The main issue is people don't play rin and caleb as intended. Rin, looking at everything plainly, is meant to scout around the map and pop out the ghostworld to strike. caleb is, all thing considered, meant to 'punish' players for recklessness: too impatient unhooks after he walked away, unwillingness to take the environment into account etc.

But too many people play them the same way:

they camp (phasecampe for rin), the slug, they tunnel, because they never learned to play killers differently. You will see players like that play all their killers the same, be it huntress, doctor or myers...

  • Repeating some points:

    • Remove the music when not in a chase
    • add (more) environmental sounds (newer maps already have them, and lbr how many of us have mistaken the bloody vultures for survivors/killers)
    • make all killers survivor sized. I know why most of them look like scaled-up humans, but it'd really add to things if they were the size they were before the entity snatched them
    • Make the killer undetectable until the first interaction/spotting. Ghostface proves that that is codeable.

Yea I think that’s dumb. If you want counter play on a killer that involves unique movement and knowledge, look at oni’s power, blight, huntress and killers like that who really change up the style of the game and how running killers works.

Just watch people say 'oh but huntress has her lullaby so you know what you're up against' and then wail about how she's so unfair because 'insert reason x here', be it her addons, be it her range and so forth.

    it's a two-fold issue

on survivor side you have some people unwilling to play a match according to whom you are facing, and on killer side you have some people unwilling to play the killer according to their ability. Just look how even big name players play spirit, deathslinger, blight or oni as m1 killers...

Who plays survivor to do gens though or hold w. If you do then that’s honestly just sad.

that's the gameplay a lot of people who claim deathslinger and PH have no counterplay are calling for, proclaiming it (with an addition of perma-looping) to be 'the most fun' and 'what the game's intended as'...

  • Yeah, there should be unique gates for the maps (also Dead Dawg needs a different sound effect... and MAYBE change the lightbulbs to gaslamps that flare up)

Badham could be an alarmclock, btw.

Also, I don't remember if this was mentioned as something they are planning, but will we also be getting unique Gens for every map at some point?

  • Deathslinger. I'm no good and rarely get a 4k in, but damn he's great to troll people :D

How about we be happy for a moment that a killer is enjoying the game, its a good thing and I am really happy to hear you like blight. Glad you beat the dc tactic too buddy 👍👍

i'll let op have their fun if they prove they didn't run noed and weren't camping

  • @ALostPuppy said:

I don't know why you want people to read when it looks like you created this post for the sole purpose of taking a stab at survivors, as if we don't have enough of these posts on the forums.

bet you ten aurics he's running noed too

  • from around rank 17-15 on, that's were the hypercompetitive thinking starts. That's when people will unquestioningly parrot big name streamers without double checking if said streamer isn't just biased (I mean just look at how many people still claim Deathslinger has no counterplay cause they can't loop him at low-wall loops and stuff). It's when you will get more people focusing so much on their own score that they neglect actually doing stuff more or less effectively.

Since that ungodly tournament recently I have seen so many survivors (as survivor) that make me want to work with the killer: Each time someone gets injured the two others on the team jump up from the gens, sneak over and try to unhook the person just after hooking, consequentially getting knocked down and the game's over before even three gens got done despite three people having been on gens.

  • Instead of a penalty DCs should make the game easier for the remaining players: BP boost (unless people are in an sfw and one of them discos), faster gen times, lower TR and slight speedboost etc

It's perfectly code-able and it'd benefit the remaining players.

  • I've only seen people complain he has no counterplay when they try to apply the same 'counterplay' as they do to killers that don't have a speargun... like, looping around low obstacles, running away in a straight line etc...

OP has a very good point, and gen speed is a counterplay as it's part of a strategy... there's a reason why 3genning is a thing survivors try to avoid.

  • Y'know what'd be funny? if the other killers would put together and put a bounty on Blight's head, enlisting Deathslinger's services (he's have to make himself immune to the serum first, but I think he could)

  • pushing this back up cause I think we're thinking in too narrow terms:

the inmate from 1860 is caleb. Mad Mick, however, might easily not have been caleb.

I think it's more likely that 'mad mick' was another irish-american inmate in the recent past (from zarina's pov) possessed by caleb's lingering spirit/energy what have you.

If Caleb would have been 'mad mick' and they'd closed down the entire wing, I think they'd thus have closed down the entire prison, because at Caleb's time that wing was probably all there was to the prison? whereas in zarina's time the original prison is part of the new structure.

and even if it would have been just part of the old prison: why should they close it down in caleb's time and never reopen/demolish that part in 100 years?

  • Again, you are trying to shove caleb to one end of the scale or other. don't do that.

Caleb is extremely hotheaded, going into a blind fury when he's p----d off. The guard was a guard, hell, maybe even a new hire, we don't know.

And the marshal? Caleb, unfortunately, is the kind of person who would brutally lash out at a marshal if said marshal managed to arrest a mark that escaped and angered caleb. There isn't necessarily greed here. The idea of 'there's no reason for a lawman to interfere with bounty hunting'... What do you think bounty hunting is?

If a lawman catches the mark first, tough luck for the bounty hunters. and I can absolutely see Caleb killing someone who (to him) took away his chance for retribution.

Caleb isn't really like Kazan. Kazan's rage is long lasting and stems from a false sense of pride and honor and directed at everyone who doesn't fit into his ideas/questions them. Caleb's rage is, for all we know, short lived (in a sense) and directed at specific targets and those that keep him from said targets.

In short: Yes, Caleb is a bloodthirsty, vengeful bounty hunter, but by all means, he has no reason to kill survivors, unless they invoke his wrath. And in-universe that's easiest achieved by having him see someone he hasn't been able to take revenge on yet.

PS: Caleb and the warden 'befriended' long before the warden's offer, make of caleb designing torture devices what you want. Hell, even some twisted naivity can be the reason, it's not necessary bland sadism and selfishness.

    Characters can be complicated, people.

    EDIT:

Also, look at when the Entity got him and how: It was in a moment of potential despair. This thread pointed out correctly he agreed to the whole bounty hunting thing because of bayshore. so look at where he is in life at the moment the entity takes him: He's broken. He got his revenge, but with it the realization that 1. he's been someone's pawn again and again, and 2. he has nothing left to keep him going. He's not stupid, and we can say he realized that that moment, that's why he wasn't there to see bayshore die proper. instead he went back to his old cell.

The way that bit is written, he's numb. And i think the moment he sits down is when the entity gets him and starts messing with his head. Just look how he can't remember who gave him the wrench anymore. this can be read as the entity severing his ties to the mortal realm and tapping into his need for revenge. it might even have blocked the recent memories of bayshore being dead.

Caleb is one of the 'sleepwalker' killers, if you want to call them that.

  • A USB port/hub is a device that allows you to add multiple usb ports (where you plug things in) to your machine. I'm using ICY BOX , though i dunno if that's a local brand.

  • I don't think it's an either/or with caleb.

He's extremely hotheaded and short-fused, which means he'll lash out at/harm what-/whoever is closest/in his way, but that doesn't mean he doesn't care for innocent lives at all.

Say about the devs what you want, but I don't think that Caleb falls into the 'lost cause' category of characters like e.g. the Doctor, Clown or Ghostface character-building-wise.

Doesn't mean it's simple to just retroactively add that in to a character who was not designed to be able to contextually change their appearance on the fly.

Also, I've already had some experience with programming in the past. Not a whole lot, but some.

Alright. But iirc the artist did intend the mask to face expressions, and as it is just an image overlay the code from before is valid, and it has been shown it's perfectly possible to do what the devs denied is possible in the Q&A. that's why people are upset.

It's really just following the same pattern of code as the bits calling for certain sounds (for example, grunting when pallet-stunned. It should be a simple additional if-event calling for a change of texture to the head-piece.

  • Pushing this up, hoping for the best

(especially wraith deserves a nice and soft)

  • @[Deleted User] said:

In order for that to make sense everything would need to be increased proportionally, and even then it would probably be very unbalanced. For example you'd probably need to have a larger map with 10 generators on it instead of the existing maps. Killers would probably get absolutely massacred on a standard 5-gen map.

Even then, the game really just isn't balanced for 2 killers and 8 survivors. Can you imagine two Bubbas playing together with a basement build, for example? It would be disgusting.

I would like to try this out as like an April Fools thing or something, though. It'd be hilarious in the short term.

the way around basement builds would be a simple to code thing that a lot of people are asking for:

teleport the hook, or in this case killer, if they loiter around the hook for too long. It's ingame in the form of PH's cages, the afk crows show it's possible to recognize a player's time on a certain tile etc.

(the obstacle is that the devs more and more don't seem interested in doing anything that would make the game more enjoyable).

But yeah, it'd need bigger maps, or more objectives to be done in general to open the gates. We already have a perk that slows the gate opening time down, so adding a factor (how many totems do stand, or maybe finding new items) that slows the gate opening down if its not fulfilled should be as simple.

(problem is the same as above, though)

  • It's called griefing and actually IS banable.

If that's the only reason, then BHVR should just hire new programmers. It's not a small company anymore..

Even if that were the reason, the fact that it'd be bloody simple to code in stands.

I mean, it's not just oni. it's the code for EVERYTHING ingame that changes appearance depending on an event:

    exploding gens, lit totems etc.

code, no matter how spaghetti is always a bunch of Ifs and Elses.

Tag, if you like I can link you to a lovely little indie-publisher that offers a basic coding language for one to program their own text-based multiple-choice games. sure, it's not graphics, but to give you a feel of how programming works.

Ok then the devs should just add a "choose my killer" poll.

isn't that what stuff like streamloots etc are for?

  • No. for the reasons mentioned.

The things that brings the highest amount of douchebag playing into the game is that people see it as hyper-competitive, winning at any price. if you reward them for being utter scum, you will only eff over the community.

  • @Avilgus said:

When you say farm did they have BT?

To date I haven’t seen a single DeathSlinger ever not proxy camp and tunnel. Not a single one since he came out in February. I’d remember because with Ghostface I’ve at least seen 3, maybe 4 over the past year and its so rare its easy to remember, but with Dudslinger it hasn’t happened once yet. Hes pretty well known for camping, maybe that has something to do with it?

Or maybe they’re in the crowd that hates his power and just wants the game over.

When you say proxy camp, please define. I've seen a ton of people call me camper because I reloaded after hooking and then walked away and hadn't even gotten out of the gun's reach when the person got unhooked...

like.... could people at least way until i turned a corner or something?

Or have actually kicked the nearby gen i walked towards?

  • Everyone saying Deathslinger has no counterplay seems incapable of using their frigging eyes and common sense:

Okay, i do main Caleb, but it's the same on survivor side: know what he can shoot through/over/across. I dunno how often I had purple and red rank survivors trying to duck behind things i could shoot through/over/across and then complain.

Meanwhile I did manage to run a deathslinger long enough for 2 1/2 gens to pop until he decided to just give chase and m1 me. and I suck at running killers.

  • The same kind of survivors are the ones to cry the loudest when they do this while they're injured...

    ...and you play Deathslinger...

  • from atop of my head, i think it's the 'resolution' or something setting? set it down from 100%? not sure

  • no. this is how copyright and licensing works.

SH is the much bigger name to begin with, so, you can gladly tell yourself that it was dbd what gave it a boost, but... that doesn't change the facts about how this stuff works.

A little tip for the devour hope challenge is to play one of the Stalk Bros while bringing a mori (green is enough). Even if Devour gets broken, fully stalking with either counts as exposed for the challenge, meaning you need 6 "hooks" (one of them being the mori).

WAAAAY less rng depended although you will have to use a slot for devour anyways.

issue is I found i'm no good with those killers. It just ends the same :/

    Which is another issue:

the challenges aren't encouraging to try new killers (which seems to be the intend) but are rather punishing people for not being good with this or that killer

He becomes what he is because the Entity took advantage of what happen with the serum accident. If he didn't get addicted to the serum he will still be trying to find a way to get out of the realm.

They can create a friend who is trying to find Talbot after he went missing but adding Talbot will give us a chance in getting a killer version of survivors and it make more sense adding him because they already established him as a survivor.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/discussion/comment/1627242#Comment_1627242

The reason adding Talbot as a survivor work better because he was originally a survivor, not a killer. I don't think we will get a survivor version of the killers because lorewise it won't make sense, but creating a killer version of a survivor work because this is something they established with Talbot.

what I meant with 'want of a nail' (check the meaning here: ) With the 'main' lore it wouldn't make much sense, yes, but i'm talking about alternate timelines, where things went just a little different. What if Anna's mother had survived the encounter? What if Caleb had never started working for bayshore or never agreed to the warden's deal? What is Sally had found a different job after her husband's death? etc.

it's small things that could have led the current killer roster down a path in which the Entity might have snatched them as survivors.

And, hell, the entity has a rotten enough sense of humor for all we know to bring those versions (as well as killer versions of the survivors) into the mix for s---s and giggles.

Not to mention like 3 challenges into the killer side you're barred by 2 more "get iridescent emblems" and "get gold emblems."

Seriously it's not that hard to think up challenges, how are there SO MANY filler ones this time around?

and then there's the 'devour hope' challenge... or the 'kill all survivors by all means' etc

like... on the survivor side you have challenges that can be done with a bit of luck if you don't have a good team.

    but killer side?

I'm sorry, but it's all 'be as much a scummy douchebag as you can', and it's just frustrating.

  • Like, okay, the level 4 challenges are meant to be 'challenging' but lbr: they seem designed to have both sides get as frustrated as possible.

I'm right now taking a break from playing as killer to help Meg's with their potential challenges, because heaven knows with the '3 iri devout' emblems on killer side this is effed up.

  • same issue here. and i'm already on low settings. my 'workaround' is playing as survivor and running a little till it evens out, but 1. it's no guarantee and 2. it shouldn't need a work around :(

  • I think it comes down to how people play them. When you have people playing their killers as more or less pure M1 get-the-4k-as-quickly-as-possible, no killer is scary, just annoying.

I mean, I know it as Deathslinger main... I have gotten endgame chats thanking me for playing him scary, including someone who said this was their first match against Deathslinger in which they didn't DC because the match was fun

and it's similar with blight I imagine.

  • LBR: some stuff that happens on the devs side is majorly frustrating (not testing updated builds on the ptb for example, please devs, let the ptb run till things are smooth-ish), but a lot of stuff that people whine about shows how little they understand about coding and legal stuff (licensing) and how utterly obsessed with playing the game as hyper-competitive (very unhealthy mindset to begin with) they are.

And, sweet mother mary in her mercy, these people need to shut their piehole. go play lol, or is that too hard for you

  • Personally I'd lvoe to have survivor versions of all original killers ingame, just to see where in their lore the 'want of a nail' point is. bonus points if there'd be special mechanics when they face their counterparts

The idea of having survivor stats has been brought up before, and the biggest argument goes something like this: "I want to play aggressive and run the killer but i just really like claudette who is only good at healing and that's just horrible." And to an extent i agree. Survivors are purposely created as skins just to give the playerbase a wide variety. However, Ive always felt that there should be things to differentiate the characters.

What i would suggest is that in addition to perks, survivors would also have to pick a role. Be it healer, fixer, sprinter. These roles would dictate perk choices to a degree, with perks being grouped in catagories and each role able to use certain catagories. There would be some overlap and as a healer, choosing say an exhaustion perk, that perks effects would be diminished slightly.

Only 2 of the same role could be picked at the same time to avoid too many of the same perks.

Killers i dont think would need roles as there powers already determine how they play and what perks work best.

I think looking back at the original four survivors, the idea of roles has been there at/from the start, and I agree it would be a good thing.

I mean, look at the original four and the four main items: tool box, med kit, map and flashlight. this has 'specific roles' written all over it.

  • @SCP_FOR_DBD said:

I like everything but the survivor stats, I'm just not a very big fan of meta survivors, especially in a competitive environment. Also, are these lore and learned perks the only thing these characters have? Or do they just start with them? Cause I might have a problem with exclusive perks as well. Aside from that, I actually really like this.

I was thinking 'lore' perks would be perks that 'fit' with a characters lore and become 'automatic basekit'. E.g. Deathslinger would automatically have Bloodhound, Pig would automatically have tinkerer, David would automatically have self-care etc. While 'learned' perks are similar to how it works now, just that they'd be a little weaker.

(it's an idea, not set in stone)

  • Pushing this back up, because i think especially after the 'tournament' the point that the system needs a complete overhaul stands stronger than ever.

  • Apparently you have forgotten Spine Chill's a thing *hurries out of the line of sight*

  • Am I the only one who briefly wondered if the Entity knows what a generator sounds like?

  • Same thing still happening to me.

I had hoped to get some friends into the game during the free weekend, but those plans fell very flat due to this :(

  • New chapter is up, who can name all survivors Caleb's dreaming of?

  • I'd say people should have the option whether they'll use skill checks or the current mechanic.

Some people are better with the current mechanic, others with checks.

  • pretty much for the same reason as others above.

sometimes i even let otherwise annoying survivors go if they managed to make me laugh (S/O to the Nea and david who tried to get into the same locker for quite a bit while my Deathslinger was standing very clearly in the doorway... I still feel like I interrupted something)

I think every killer is probably genuinely terrified by the Blight. You have to remember, he was able to kidnap and experiment on them, when he was a survivor. Remember, the Entity gives Killers super powers so the fact that a survivor was able to get the upperhand on over a dozen killers is kind of mind blowing. If they saw him now, they'd probably either hate and fear him and keep their distance, or feel vindicated considering what he's turned into.

A part of me hopes Deathslinger won't get a blight event outfit, on that note, with the reasoning that he very well turned the serum into moonshine and unwittingly made himself immune.........
