  • There would probably be an issue regarding whether BHVR would be glorifying or celebrating real life murderers. This would be a road to controversy they would most probably not survive.

I'm fine with using myths or urban legends such as La Llorona, Spring-heeled Jack, or The White Death. There would be plenty of scope with those and many more.

  • Discussions by people who only play one side that comment on how the other side is unfair/ unbalanced/ etc.

  • I could see it work! If it's a pirate ship, the top deck might be like Autohaven, whilst the lower decks like The Game.

A more modern ship may work better, due to a more balanced setup: The top deck will have smaller buildings to hope in and out of, whilst lower decks will have larger rooms. It'll feel more balanced.

  • I just randomize every perk using DBD Randomizer and play like that. If I just used the same few perks it would get boring, and miss out on the potential benefits of lesser-used perks, especially knowing the vast majority will not have a setup to counter it.

It's far more enjoyable and whilst during the round it can be competitive, it's just a game and some rounds I'll trash the other side and sometimes they'll trash me. I just play as well as I can, and at the end of the day I am frustrated it always comes down to something I identified in my own playstyle that needs improving, and not on the other side.

  • I tried crossplay on Xbox, and whilst for the me there was no huge difference in terms of queue time, there was a much larger difference in how the movements differed between platforms. PC players were far more nimble, due to the keyboard/mouse combo vs controller.

As a result, for me the balance wasn't there so I turned it off.

There is nothing PC players have done wrong, and it would be completely unfair on them to make them use controllers. But the balance isn't there for me. I'd try crossplay again if we could select which platforms we could face, but it's just not that enjoyable for me to try at present.

  • I'd actually like some more of those to be customised, not I've actually noticed it! The touches to the few with more customised grab actions (The Hag crawling inside; The Legion holding the knife to the survivor's throat) are quite neat!

  • It's not included in the descriptions of the perks, and I've not noticed any increases whilst using those perks. Could be an interesting change, but then again those perks are strong enough already. Maybe there could be a potential survivor perk in future which grants that?

  • Never, but I am a masochist and sometimes the chance of beating a powerful team with my always random and potentially petty perks is a temptation I cannot resist.

  • Slippery Meat is perhaps the perk most needing a buff. The randomness of escaping bear traps still impacts heavily on escaping, and 3 extra attempts of escaping a hook at 4% is pointless.

They'd be better off reworking its purpose. Maybe it could be a perk that reduces the time the Killer has of carrying you to the hook. Not like "Boil Over" which makes the trip more difficult, but just reduces the time the killer has. Scrap the extra attempts for bear traps and hook escapes.

  • To me, the funniest bit is her face. It's got that "I'm really not impressed with this" expression!

If you had a clip, that would most certainly be worthwhile sending that to 4gamers!

  • They've improved the spawn locations, and granted they're trickier to locate, but from a masochistic perspective I enjoy it! Makes it feel really good when I uncover an especially well-hidden totem.

With the new chapter brining a couple of new, potentially-devastating hexes, it could be the start of turning games into actual feats of survival.

  • Tunnelling can cause Killers frustration, result in gens flying left, righr and centre, and basically loses more games than it wins, from my experience.

If you tunnel and knock a guy down quickly, you're pursuing the wrong guy, because the rest of the team may have better players. And once they know they're being tunnelled, the rest of the team can win the game. DS and BT are commonly used, so another good reason not wasting time on them.

The best tactic is actually to spread the chaos out. Start defending gens you want to defend first and aim to injure mainly. As the match progresses, those survivors will eventually start falling.

Basically, tunnelling is one of the less productive tactics.

  • The most important thing is to keep your cool during the round. As Wraith I fought a SWF team and got destroyed, but my defining reason for failing was that I allowed them to swarm. I was easily confused, when really a better tactic would have been to hit and run. Get out of the swarm, and attack when it's easier. I also was missing obvious shots. I played poorly (even though they were extremely good).

Alongside not getting swept up, your map team mate is the basement. That will cause the most damage and can especially cause issues for a more altruistic team.

A final tip is to get then to drop pallets around the area you're guarding for a 3-4 gen strategy quickly. Take the hit, because a dropped pallet earlier on makes it a dangerous place later in the game.

Basically, keep calm and experiment . The most dangerous of Killers are those who know they have nothing left to lose.

I seriously hope Silent Hill events don't translate to DBD, especially when Pyramid Head encounters a nurse...

    Time to change the rating!!

  • He'd be a welcome addition! Maybe his morphing skills could be a camoflage tactic, or something to do with balloons? Not sure, but it could work!

  • There is so much potential; not to mention the fear factor it would bring!

  • I'm not sure I could take a toy seriously. I wouldn't start whining and moaning, because BHVR might prove me wrong (and I'd hope to). Yet I believe there would be better licensed and unlicensed options.

  • I'd be happy just to see him again. I've versed Nurse more than Pyramid Head on Xbox, and he was a great Killer to face for me.

I mean, yes the Nurse is more common in Silent Hill than Red Pyramid Thing, but that doesn't mean that has to translate to DBD!

  • In the past couple of days I've experienced bad behaviour from both sides, but to be absolute about this it has only happened in these games alone. All other games have been played versus decent people and I just like to say recently my matches have been vastly more positive both before, during and after the trial.

As survivor, I competed against a camping, teabagging Ghost Face (basically, the worst of both worlds in one - horrific!!). I survived with a hatch escape (and yes, a few teabags of my own to avenge my fallen comrades).

As Wraith, a rare glimpse into the world of a 4-man SWF with OoO. A headache? Yes. Teabagging and torches? Yes. Post game abuse? ... No! I'm not ashamed to admit I got 0k, but I did get a few hooks and ended up with Brutal Killer (which is a win for me!).

I do tend to agree a Killer toxicity is more punishing tham survivors. However, maybe we're all using toxic in not quite the right context. Bitter comments and threats and racist/homophobic/mental-health slurs are definitely toxic and should be punished. In-game antics, whilst sometimes feeling toxic, are all allowed within the rules. They could be labelled "unsportsman-like" or "childish", but toxic to me implies something more than acting like a doofus. Toxicity to me is disgusting behaviour. In-game, it's more childish or dull.

But yeah, towards your original question, a Killer's action is more damning than Survivors. Still, both are a bit annoying - nothing more.

  • Anything with a good melody and atmosphere, no matter whether played softly or aggressively. As examples:

Everything Everything; Wild Beasts; Billy Talent; Haim; R.E.M; The Crystal Method; Eva Plays Dead; The Smashing Pumpkins; Delays; Mansun; Catfish and the Bottlemen; Perfume

  • Rules are made to be broken >:)

  • Survivor: We'll Make It. I love the fast heals it offers.

Killer: Spies From The Shadows. It's an excellent detection perk.

I randomize everything anyway. There are so many perks to choose from, so may as well learn how to make the most of them all.

  • Because when someone loses, it's perceived by that individual that they would be weak to admit the opponent outplayed them in that round.

Rather than look at their own game, they would rather complain about others. The anonymity also doesn't help.

Those individuals need to stop making excuses and start focusing on what they can do to play better. I've complimented Killers who were exceptional, and even have asked for tips once or twice and got some useful advice!

People can play competitively within the game, but once the trial's over remember the other person/ people were just playing a game and are human with their own problems and lives to deal with.

    Just be conscientious of others.

  • Once any survivor escapes, what on Earth could erase all of those memories of death, torture and the constant cycle of something no human should go through, or indeed is even made to go through?

The amount of therapy would be unreal, and even then how would a therapist or doctor truely help, when the idea of a giant, eldritch spider creating many arenas got random people to escape them by operating generators, all the while being chased by a plethora of monsters, ghosts and murderers.

Escaping would by far be the best outcome, but all that PTSD that comes with it ... how many would consider a final death upon return?

Yes, but you aren't listening and are beginning to sound like a broken record. Competing in a professional sport vs just playing a video game are very different because sure both people enjoy what they do but one of them is being PAID. Yes, both of the people are trying to win but the people playing those sports will put a lot more effort into it than the person casually playing a video game (Like I've been saying).

I am fully aware of what you're saying, but you've missed the important point that it is competing, and in any game where one vs another, they play to do the best they can and beat the other.

Also, I may sound like a broken record, but you've not given me reason to change my responses. The payment bit is irrelevant. I'm showing that if there is a versus element, there will be competition. Unfortunately, you've not focused on the point I made about how games are played, instead focusing on finances which has no relevance on the point in hand.

My stance stays the same. I respect yours, but your argument delving into pay feels like a smoke screen over the main issue of versus and competitive nature of games in general.

  • The devs have done really well. As with any game there have been bugs and balancing issues, but I've always felt they've done the best with what they have. Certainly, they do not deserve all the smack-talk they get burdened with. Sure, if there's a problem, a mature, critical response to make them aware is important. But calling them one-sided or that they "don't care" is completely false.

Overall, it's a fun game where no 2 rounds are the same. I do hope the next patch gets rid of that darn hill glitch though!

That's inaccurate especially since pro football players get serious injuries that have lasting damage while playing and still go back and play because it's both something they like and makes them on average 5 million dollars. Most people would stop playing Dead by Daylight if they had a chance to break a bone or get a concussion while playing.

I think that's the main point you made there - "it's something they like". People have passions and hobbies. I used major sports and such as an obvious illustration. But competitiveness is at every level.

If it's a school game of football or rugby, the aim is still the same. Even in a friendly game of cards, despite being relaxed, you still play to win. Playing to win doesn't equal an a*****e. It's natural to compete.

Ultimately, it's about whether someone is a good or bad winner or loser. If someone is a bad winner they will unjustly mock their conquest. A bad loser will make excuses to take away from focusing on themselves.

Its usually used when people only care about winning in a casual game.

With all games there is a competitive nature. Anyone who plays this goes into a game with the aim to achieve something. If they do that, they "win". If a killer defeats a 4 man SWF using tunnelling and camping (I don't like those tactics by the way), or a 4 man SWF blitzes a victory, anyone on a losing side can call them "sweaty", and that's my issue with the word: It's just a word used by people who want to save face from a loss. Says more about them than the target.

#1, comparing someones jobs that they get paid for to a very buggy cat and mouse style game that people play in their free time is (no offense) stupid. Especially the football one since each game matters for the future of their career which pays somewhere around 5.15 million on average. And #2 trying to actually win and playing like you ARE a football star playing for your paycheck of 5 million dollars is completely different

Not at all. Someone playing to win a football game vs someone trying to win playing Mario is exactly the same thing when it comes to effort. Money has no relevance in terms of how hard someone plays. In any competitive game online, people play as well as can be. Just because someone wants to play well doesn't make them sweaty. Sweaty is purely a term used by people to justify their own losses.

Oh no its not The Sims its... Fnaf( Yeah... I'm expecting some hate)., I'm not talking about the newer stuff but the older like original, 1 through 4 those I find slightly scarier, for when you play through the game I just find the ambience and the silence disturbing, and it makes you feel alone, vulnerable, helpless I feel uncomfortable playing it at times. When you let your guard down your basically dead, I know fnaf is portrayed as a kids game to many but in my opinion its not, its like for teens really. I didn't want to say it because I know how much people in the community hates fnaf but I like it, for this is what got me into the horror genre, plus comparing it to a game like Silent hill makes me feel like I'm sounding childish, again I'm sorry but I just wasn't as terrified while playing silent hill then I was playing fnaf, I hope you can understand.

No need to apologise! Everyone has different fear levels. Like, with me, FNAF isn't scary, but I admit when it first came out I did like the camera idea as that whole voyeuristic approach can be very unsettling. So I understand why people could get scared.

Fear also comes down to different perspectives and also experiences. I have a lot of experience with bad mental health, which is why Silent Hill affects me (hallucinations, suicide, etc.). Your fear may be the advance in technology, hence animatronics.

Whichever, never feel guilty for what scares you. Heck, jewelry scares me for goodness sake! :))

I'm okay with that I personally think Outlast is scarier than Silent Hill for the sense of helplessness is what makes me feel unsafe. And there is another game I find scarier than Silent Hill but I think saying it particularly nowadays within the community would be deemed ill advice but I get what your saying

Oh no, you can't talk about a game scarier than Silent Hill and not say it! That's teasing! I'm sure that we'll understand when you say it ... so long as it's not "The Sims"!

  • Thinking about the time The Legion came from, I'll give 6 songs each that they may have had, from what I can see.

    Julie's Mix Tape:

"Black" by Pearl Jam; "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden; "Hurt" by NIN; "Atmosphere" by Joy Division; "Lightning Crashes" by Live; "Disarm" by The Smashing Pumpkins

    Susie's Mix Tape:

"No Good (Start The Dance)" by The Prodigy; "Who The F*** Is Alice" the Wonderland Rave Remix; "Something Good" by Utah Saints; "Together" by Hardcore Uproar; "Set You Free" by N-Trance; "Up & Down" by New Balance

    Joey's Mix Tape:

"Sabotage" by Beastie Boys; "Rebel Without A Pause" by Public Enemy; "C.R.E.A.M" by Wu-Tang Clan; "Sugar Hill" by AZ; "U Don't Know Me" by Kid Rock; "Hate In A Puddle" by Illogic

    Frank's Mix Tape:

    "Shame" by Stabbing Westwards; "Dog Day Sunrise" by Fear Factory; "Ruiner" by NIN; "Missing Link" by Curve; "No More Love" by God Lives Underwater; "Discipline" by Throbbing Gristle;

    Fuming Mix Tape:

"The Philosopher" by Death; "Hard Lines Sunken Cheeks" by Pantera; "The Beautiful People" by Marilyn Manson; "Possessed" by Sevenchurch; "Suffer The Children" by Napalm Death; "Hammer Smashed Face" by Cannibal Corpse.

If nothing else, I hope this gives you guys some different music to listen to. :D

  • I think the series is more about a sense of ever-growing horror and dread, rather than a scary game.

For me, no other series has met the standard this series has set for horror. Whilst games like "The Cat Lady" and "Outlast" have been brilliant samples of horror, "Silent Hill" for me has never been beaten in terms of horror.

However, everyone has different tastes, and what someone may consider scary, I'd consider laughable and vice versa. Certainly, thank you and well done for being honest about the game. Admittedly, Eddie was comical to me too, especially the bit where James completely misjudged the situation, resulting in the fight!

Horror is always subjective. My favourite Silent Hill has always been "Silent Hill: The Room". But certainly, if you don't like the idea of fighting back, avoid "Homecoming" at all cost!!! Although, in fairness, the bosses are so well designed!

It is confirmed that he is the Alchemist, as one of his add-ons confirms that he was the one that experimented on the Killers, with the add-on being the tag that the blight killers had on their back:

A glass-like laboratory tag, moulded from The Fog itself. Either a gift from The Entity or a cruel jest to tag The Blight as he once did to others.

Also, the field of flowers was a vision showed to him when he entered the Realm for the first time. But he spent time as a survivor before finding the notes of Vigo and trying to create the serum, then the Entity sent him to the Void and there he made a deal with it, becoming the Blight.

Thank you for confirming this! So he is the first ever survivor-turned-killer? That's great! Genuinely am happy that idea is being put forwards.

Since time is different in The Entity's realm, what are the chances of a dlc that perhaps shows a corrupted version of an original survivor we play, and perhaps a killer who rejected servitude, but whose determination may make The Entity reassign then as a survivor, seeing an opportunity for a feast in their emotions?

I watched a let's play of that one years back! That was a crazy game.

And how! "The Cat Lady" is grossly underrated and not always given the praise it deserves. It most probably is because of its unrestricted analysis of depression and terminal illness, even though it's dealt with with the utmost sensitivity. I'd recommend it to anyone!

Plus, without spoiling anything, the villains are something else!

  • @MeltingPenguins said:

we can speculate that the entity showed him the flowers and let him roam for a while, corrupting himself. IIRC the event lore, The Alchemist wandered through death and decay searching for more flowers.

He did within the "death and decay of the void". It's certainly speculative he might be, but if it is there is a gap between the field of flowers he saw and the void which needs explaining.

Another interesting thought is that a majority of the Killers were influenced or tortured. The Blight seems self-made. If there is a cult, has he inflicted wounds upon himself in some sort of worship?

Like OP, I'm a little concerned about the cult idea. Sometimes it becomes too convoluted. If they do, I hope they take their time in developing it.

  • Forgive me for sounding dumb, but do we conclusively know without any doubt that The Blight is The Alchemist? I ask this because in Talbot's lore he is shown a vision of a field of flowers by The Entity before entering, whilst The Alchemist was wandering through the death and decay of the void. Both those places sound very different to me, which could also lead to an idea they are 2 separate people.

  • Never had any issue with it myself. It's been useful, especially against Hag or Trapper. Its cone of influence is concise enough to locate totems and traps, and it has a very low cooldown. It's a decent perk as is for me.

  • Doesn't the word "sweaty" apply to anyone who wants to play well? I don't get that word. When Man Utd dominated football, did other teams claim they were sweaty? When Eastenders won soap of the year, did Coronation Street actors claim it was because they're sweaty? When acts like Meatloaf, Bryan Adams or Drake stayed at no.1 in the charts, did acts like Pantera, Everything Everything, Radiohead, etc. call them sweaty?

I just don't get the word at all. Other than an excuse for another player to feel better about themself, it's completely nonsensical to me. Unless it turns into a mutual meme game it is always competitive in nature.

Admittedly, I don't play crossplay because of the advantages a PC has over console, which makes it unbalanced. However, just because PC players may win more as a result, it's ludicrus to label them sweaty.

  • They're frustrating, no doubt. However, they are tactics that (in some cases) prove useful in certain instances when acted upon sparingly. Also, there are ways to counter these.

For perks alone, tunnelling is countered by Decisive Strike and Borrowed Time. Face camping also has its drawbacks from perks like Kindred or Camaraderie.

Either way, whilst it can bugger things up for the Survivor that's targetted, the Killer too is at a disadvantage. The time wasted doing such things dramatically screws them up with little progress and de-pips, whilst also actively encourages survivors to play dirty in return and show no respect.

In short, it's scummy and crappy (mainly face-camping, as there is a case for tunnelling in some instances), but to make it bannable seems unfair, especially since there are also times where something might be perceived as tunnelling by the Survivor, but actually wasn't.

Have you tried Soma? Its strengths line up really well with your favorites :)

I have, and I do like the philosophical subject behind it, as well as the imagined horror of those within machines. I'd also say that a lesser known horror - a 2D story-driven psychological horror called "The Cat Lady" - is also highly recommended, and is amongst my top 5 horror games. I'd recommenď that one wholly, albeit it is rather dark.

  • Julie's Mixed Tape: I imagining grunge acts like Alice in Chains and Soundgarden, but also some Nick Cave and slower Ozzy Osbourne tracks.

Susie's Mixed Tape: Prodigy, Utah Saints, Nine Inch Nails and similar aggressive dance music.

Joey's Mixed Tape: Rap/ Metal crossovers. Acts like Beastie Boys, Pantera, Kid Rock, Cypress Hill, Public Enemy and Faith No More

Frank's Mixed Tape: Nine Inch Nails, Stabbing Westward, Fear Factory, Joy Division and Recoil

Fuming Mixed Tape: Pantera, Sepultura, Machine Head, White Zombie

I've tried keeping the mi tapes in the era The Legion was about.

  • Currently, I'm playing "The Evil Within". Strong, narrative-based games with a survival and psychological horror element are my favourites.

  • I can't help but wish that what happens next is that The Trapper does a long-winded, bad guy speech, ending with "Now, prepare to meet your doom! Butterfly Traps! Kill them!" and eitherside of him the traps start flapping their jaws, levitate and charge at them.

  • Whatever its status, my matches have felt balanced.

Pretty much this. Calling people "tryhards" is so ridiculous to me. So what, the opponent should let you win and go easy on you every time? Yeah, exploiting the game and using questionable strategies to win is obviously a scummy thing to do, but most of the people I've seen using this insult are just mad that they were killed.

Just to add to that: Exploits - if anything but - is an example of people not trying, as they're after an easy win.

I'm yet to watch any rugby, handball or other sporting event where the losing team accuse the winning team of being a "try-hard". If anything, their manager ought to wonder - were that the case - why that team did not try harder themselves! When put in that context, it's easy to see how ridiculous those claims are.
