I don't think the meta changing is significant unless the core philosophy towards the concept of meta changes. BHVR nerfed Decisive Strike into the ground but buffed Off The Record because they still want surviors to dedicate a perk to anti-tunneling, but wanted to change the perk itself so that they could say the meta had changed and that the game was fresh. They didn't want to actually do anything about tunneling or the need for anti-tunneling perks. They changed gen regression from passive to an active, kicking playstyle. They're now pushing gen-rush perks in every DLC. The core hasn't changed, only the method. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Ideally the game should be balanced so that so that there is no meta outside of the most tryhard tournament settings. Perks should be more about playstyle rather than "I need this to have a chance at winning, or to counter the utter nonsense my opponent has".
-
The game is fundamentally built around tunneling (and also camping, though that one depends on where you down the survivor in relation to generators and the behaviour of survivors) and not tunneling means that you're eight hooks in and still have no kills. Then 4 people t-bag you at the exit gates. No amount of survivor nerfs are going to make killers tunnel less, it's the way they are supposed to play.
-
Bioshock, because we should get System Shock instead. Better game, better killer.
-
Literally all they had to do was just make the cypress moris basekit. That's all anyone wanted.
-
There are maybe five people playing Sadako. Are people really complaining about her?
-
Kill rate is irrelevant. What is relevant is how those kills are distributed. Is it all 4Ks against solo queue and 0Ks against killsquads?
-
Solo queue needs Kindred to be basekit. Other than that, there's nothing BHVR can do to change the fact that the average player doesn't even want to win and would instead rather swarm the killer at all times.
-
If Hag is dead, I don't think a single survivor is going to mourn her.
-
It's not about coverage but about how he could be out of terror radius and then suddenly he's right on top of you.
-
Because he can cover a huge distance with his power and suddenly be right on top of you. Unlike a killer like Oni or Blight, it happens all at once instead of gradually, and unlike Nurse he moves normally once he's finished traveling.
-
You don't even need to "juke" Wesker. His power is so buggy that half the time you'll do a first dash to get around the corner and then the game will just refuse to let you dash a second time despite having a second charge ready to go.
-
Wesker might actually be the worst killer in the entire game right now.
-
The trick is to realize his power is completely worthless, easy to dodge (or even have phase right through you) and just loop him like an M1 killer. If you fear his power and respect it he will cancel it and get an actual M1, but unlike Pyramid Head his power isn't actually threatening.

I agree. No basketball outfit for Rebecca? Wasted potential.
-
Rebecca may have the most outfits of any RE character. We need more.

Constructive criticism.
-
Need basketball Rebecca...
-
Let me take that hat off of Rebecca, it's non-canon I says!

Resident Evil 1 HD Remaster
You unlock it after you beat the game for the first time as Chris.
The hat, I mean. The hat isn't from the game.
-
Bizarre that they would add something like that. It's not even from the game.
-
BHVR has made it pretty clear with loads of statements that they view that Nurse, a free, immediately available killer, being completely broken somehow absolves the otherwise pay to win nature of the game, since whatever power you could get by getting paid perks like STBFL on Demogorgon, you could get even more power by just playing Nurse, even without perks. They're not going to change her, it's company policy for her to be overpowered at this point.

Probably cuz people would have complained that its another Jill situation where her default and a og outfit shared the same head
Well, they lost my sale.
-
More importantly, why did they throw a hat on her back for the western outfit? It's not in the game.
-
Wesker's RE1 remake look is by far the most likely candidate, I think.
-
Off the Record and Kindred are basically mandatory in solo queue so I don't really get to have "builds".
-
He's unfun and non-interactive so I'd prefer whatever makes me see him as little as possible.
-
I'd agree if she actually looked like herself. But she doesn't, so I usually just play Lisa. May switch to Rebecca.
-
I will paypig for Rebecca. Any and all outfits.

They removed repairing speed in the new description. It states it only affects healing, chests and totems now.
If it actually did boost repairing speed it would have a function: incentivizing healing someone before returning to work on the generator together. Now I see little purpose to it.
-
Off The Record doesn't work in endgame either. Borrowed Time does though, and it's stronger than it used to be. I do wish they'd just make anti-tunneling and Kindred basekit so I can actually run a full build.
-
Not sure how anyone could enjoy Artist. Even just the process of placing down crows is clunky and unresponsive.
-
BHVR makes the outfits that sell. If they make a Jeff outfit, a few people buy it. If they make a Feng outfit, they make loads of money. Feng players are the biggest whales so it makes sense to cater to them. Other characters like Claudette and Meg also have loads of players and get lots of outfits. This only applies to original characters though. Rebecca has probably the most outfits of any RE character and will have lots of players but you'll probably only ever see one shop outfit for her.

isn't the point of a meta shakeup to, y'know, shake up the meta?
There's no real value in gutting DS, but recognizing how essential it is so you buff OTR to take its place. All that changes is the character you need to level up to unlock the new anti-tunneling perk, and the icon in the scoreboard after the match.
-
If it's solo queue and you're up against a killer like trapper you should just stay away from the basement even if it means you go down faster, and never attempt a save there. Even if it looks like he's leaving, he's really not and he WILL tunnel even through Off The Record. Do the gens and get out. Fortunately nobody plays Trapper anymore. And yeah, Kindred should have been made basekit years ago.

I don't get this argument. It's so ridiculous to me that some people are acting like solo queue has been completely destroyed but swf survivors are as strong as ever. Just insane.
How do the killer buffs not affect swf survivors? And how do these killer buffs make solo queue suddenly unplayable? It's Honestly just so, so ridiculous.
The frustrating part is that survivors do need help at the moment, especially solo queue. It's just not fair for killers to get a bunch of good buffs that help them with their frustrations, but survivors getting nothing in return. And those 5 second endurance after being unhooked are not even close to enough.
But people just seem to rather participate in hyperbole than actually voice proper criticism, at least at times it seems. Solo queue is not dead, and swf hasn't been left untouched. The buffs actually help killers, giving them a better and fairer chance at winning. The problem is just that solo survivors didn't get any help, and that camping and tunneling are still as effective as they ever were, and maybe even more now. Pretty bad if you ask me.
Information is more important than any power. SWF get 20+ perks for free.
-
Basketball Rebecca is mandatory. I'd also like "Wesker Mode" Rebecca.

I think camping and tunneling need to be nerfed first. But I would also be very happy about some solo queue information buffs.
I know some people say that solo queue is dead, but that's just an insane exaggeration. You can still win, even in solo queue. Problem is just that it can be quite rough for solo queue at the moment, or even just survivor in general. Even swf survivors have to suffer camping and tunneling. That is no fun for anyone.
But yeah, solo queue isn't dead. There are still tons of people that seem to be playing survivor solo.
It's not a matter of winning. Most solo queue matches can barely be described as playing a videogame right now. Killer gets infinite pressure in the first minute and it's a total snowball with nothing resembling any gameplay.
-
Yes, I think they actually did. They know the SWF bullies are the ones making all the promotional videos, buying all the Feng skins, and they know they have to choose one or the other, it's not actually possible to balance the two without segregation.
-
Game is completely binary. You go down instantly or you are literally untouchable to more than half the roster, and there's no in-between.
-
They nerfed Decisive Strike because they wanted to change which perks people run, and wanted them to use Off The Record instead. Same purpose, different effect, different perk.
-
The game is controlled by survivor skill level, and survivor skill level is very binary. They either know the map, the loops, and how to chain the loops together or they don't, and the game really doesn't give them the tools to learn. The few that do learn are basically invincible to half the killer roster. Also, factor in that there's a new killer every 3 months, and survivor gets harder every 3 months.

Shrug.
It's going to be very entertaining watching postgame when people complain that I didn't camp XD.
Hag is camping even when she isn't camping.

If someone doesn't learn from their mistakes, that's a personal issue which doesn't need to be addressed by game design.
And yeah you can practice, it's with friends in kill your friends mode. Probably the most chill way to gradually improve and learn tiles against the full roster of killers. But I'll admit a solo bot mod would be my first choice, especially if I could customize the oppositions loadouts.
None of my friends are dumb enough to play this.

Getting better never hurts, I'm aware I always have room for self improvements, but mainly just suggesting self reflection before blaming balance is bias against survivors.
DbD is one of the most unintuitive games ever made. People aren't going to get better no matter how many matches they play. Game won't even let them practice the maps.
-
It depends on the survivor skill level, SWF status, map, and which killer is being played.
-
Yeah, just "get good" and beat the 8 nurses in a row in the game throws at you.
-
I will never understand why Freddy is considered weak. It's impossible to loop him.
-
Remove the survivor vision-blocking black splodge whenever someone gets hooked and it's a deal.
-
Do they have the tools? The game doesn't even let you practice running around a map.
-
SWF get about 20 information perks for free. That's a huge boost even if they're mediocre players.
