You know AFRO posted that as a joke right?
There is counterplay - don't be out of position. if you're not in a deadzone, which is your own fault anyway, holding M2 does nothing.
How do you avoid being caught out of position by a killer that can teleport around the map and spend basically the entire match Undetectable?
-
Generally a killer can have one or two of the following: mobility, stealth and a chase power. Springtrap gets all three. Imagine if Pig could teleport around the map and fling hatchets at you even after the stealth is over and she has entered chase.

There's no way to come up with unique ideas without somewhat reusing old ones. Moreover, this chapter was a stupid idea from a stupid game to begin with. You're lucky it even happened.
Some of the more recent killers, like Unknown, Vecna and even Ghoul are actually pretty unique. Springtrap was definitely a case of the devs wanting to play it safe and create an all-rounder with an already solid, established playstyle to maximize the chances of success and minimize controversy.
-
I'm very excited for the Vecna Buff Chapter.
-
The Vecna buffs. Don't really care about FNAF and I've never been one for projectile killers. More looking forward to September and November.
-
I don't think he'd be much worse of a fit than Vecna. We're already well past the point of this being a horror game with strict requirements that the characters be from horror media.
-
The novelty of the gameplay and concept, coupled with the jumpscare focus served to bring streamers in on day one. FNAF made for a great "reaction" game, and the younger generations don't actually play videogames, they just watch streamers play games all day and form parasocial relationships with them. Combine that with the lack of story and vague lore being made up on the spot which will require video guides to understand and you have a swarm of "fans", most of which haven't even played the games but they have watched dozens of hours of video essays on them.
If you look at Steamcharts data for FNAF games you'll see that the player numbers have never actually been very high, the Silent Hill 2 remake vastly outperformed even the highest charting FNAF game, and Silent Hill 2's remake has sold maybe 2 million copies with most of them on PS5. In short, the games themselves are irrelevant. It's a cultural phenomenon that stretches past the games themselves because the franchise is hooked into the way that Zoomers consume and discuss culture. If you're just looking at the games you'd never be able to understand why it is popular. It's mostly fan content keeping it popular.
-
Would love to see this. Probably not big enough to get a map though.

Because of the demonstrable lie that all stealth Killers are always weak and that stealth itself is weak. It's not, and they are not. They simply take a lot more time, energy, skill, and effort at the game to become good with than someone more simple to learn like a mobility or speed Killer does. This chapter will draw many new players and BHVR doesn't want this big massive chapter that has been the most asked for Killer for YEARS to be too hard for people to use or get the hang of. A stealth Killer requires much more macro knowledge and setup understanding, tactical thinking, and game sense to win consistently with.
None of that game sense matters when a survivor tells their buddies you are heading to their side of the map.
-
Stealth killers are all on the weaker side, because voice communications (which the game was not built around the expectation of) neuter their stealth capabilities and more skilled survivors require stronger chase power to catch quickly. So if you're putting in FNAF, probably the biggest chapter they'll ever get in terms of appealing to new players, you'd want to turn the FNAF killer into something that doesn't have to play ring-around-the-pallet, even if it is out of character. Bonus points for being able to quickly travel around the map, another essential requirement for a strong killer. The Undetectable feels tacked on for thematic purposes.
I doubt BHVR are fans of the IP, this is a payday, and this is how you get the pay.
-
Years ago I would have said I preferred original chapters (killers and survivors) but these days I tend to prefer the licensed ones. The bar just keeps getting higher and licenses have an easier time clearing it. I don't think there's a single licensed killer I actively dislike, but there are several original killers I'd remove from the game if I could.
On top of that, I'm far more likely to be attached to a licensed survivor, coming from a work that actually has dialogue and a real story, than any of BHVR's originals.
-
I'll only list stuff that is big or important enough that it could feasibly be on the radar, and only list the characters in situations in which it wouldn't be obvious to everyone already.
Horror or horror-adjacent Films: The Thing, Friday the 13th, Predator, Jurassic Park, IT/Pennywise, Terminator (I think BHVR may have already written this one off for gameplay reasons, they managed to get it in Deathgarden 7 years ago)
Non-horror films: Darth Vader, I suppose
Horror games: Amnesia (Probably pulling from multiple games, but with a focus mostly on the first game), Clock Tower, System Shock, Dead Space, Fatal Frame, The Last of Us (probably survivors only, but a killer could work if they were willing to use mooks), Parasite Eve (this one would be tricky to license because of mixed rights. They may have to settle for a survivor only)
Non-horror games: Metal Gear (Psycho Mantis), Sephiroth, Dark Souls/Bloodborne/Elden Ring, something from Blizzard's catalogue, either Warcraft, Starcraft or Diablo.
Anime: Evangelion, with Asuka and Rei as survivors, and Unit 01 as the killer and skins for other Evas (They'd have to shrink the killer to make this one work, but it's worth the payday), Death Note, Berserk, Cyberpunk Edgerunners (this one could be based on the game as well, but I'd rather the survivors be the characters from the anime rather than from the game)
Comics: The Joker could work as a killer, if they gave him a box of fun tricks. Carnage or Venom also fit.
Roleplaying games: Vampire: The Masquerade can work, as long as they pick something that isn't like the Dracula we already have. Easy to license as well.
-
It's a great combo on a handful of killers like Unknown but most can't get any serious value out of Furtive Chase.
-
My game crashed about 30 minutes ago and now I can't find a match either.
Edit: Seeing multiple threads on Steam forums about this. It's definitely a widespread issue and not a problem on our end.
-
They should definitely keep the old tomes in the game so that completionists can have something to work on in the long term. No sense in removing them. They could even make a unique profile banner/badge for people who 100% it. Hell, auto-complete the character specific ones, at least the licensed ones, so you don't have to buy every character to complete them.
-
I don't agree that "anything goes", but I will agree that Adam Smasher fits into the game better than Vecna or even some original killers like Trickster.
-
I want Evangelion. This could be the map. But in regards to DbD's identity and what fits the game, I think we crossed the Rubicon with the Dungeons & Dragons chapter that didn't even focus on the more horror-y elements of the IP.

For the game's sake, I hope it doesn't go as poorly as I think it will.
My opinion remains that this clearly demonstrates that BHVR is completely chasing the money. I do not think any license, no matter how obscure or how problematic, is off the table as long as they think it'll make them money.
It is disappointing, to me alone perhaps, because I did genuinely think they were better than that.
Well of course they are chasing the money, that's why most of the licenses over the last year have been weird. BHVR has realized that they already have so many horror films, especially slasher films, represented in the game that putting more in isn't going to bring in lots of new players. Even adding Jason Voorhees wouldn't do much because the people who would start playing for Jason already started playing for Freddy or Myers or what have you. So they're expanding into non-horror games, anime, tabletop role playing games. FNAF is actually the most on-track we've been in a while in that it is an outright horror IP, but it's still outside of that slasher well that has dried up.
Though, FNAF isn't obscure and obscure chapters don't bring in the money.
-
It's the first time a licensed chapter has come that I have literally zero interest in, but it's probably going to be an interesting stealth killer and not some broken crap like the Ghoul or another projectile killer so we may be in for some interesting gameplay.
-
The core concept of the mode is fun, but they screwed up by making certain killers overpowered on the mode, other killers worthless and making generator perks not do anything. If they bring it back with these issues addressed I think it will be just as fun as the main game mode.
-
Get multiple great skill checks in a row on a generator while injured to become broken and heal after a time (limited number of uses per match).
-
First you need to find Mew under the truck.
-
Forgotten Ruins, the map that came with Dungeons & Dragons. The entire map is just fundamentally ill-conceived and I don't know how you would fix it.
-
Cakes and streamers are forever. You use your bloodshot eyes during this event or lose them.
-
Reassurance is only good if you're in a party. See, if the killer is even vaguely patrolling around the hook and clearly isn't concerned with actively seeking out chases, then you do not need to unhook the survivor until they are almost at the next stage. You can just leave them for a while and have everyone repair generators. Immediate unhooks are only valuable if the killer has raced to the other side of the map to get more hooks, and if the killer is patrolling then a quick unhook will only give the killer another chase and more pressure, perhaps even aid him in tunneling. This means that Reassurance can keep the killer patrolling around the hook longer, giving your team more time on gens. Problem is that in solo queue everyone is unhook hungry and there is no way to communicate this strategy, so if you run to the hook and use Reassurance the extra time added to the hook timer is wasted because your teammates are not working on generators.
-
The biggest issues are:
Just how free the free injury is. They won't be getting rid of that, but it should be nerfed.
The speed with which he can vault pallets.
How easy it is to break a pallet and catch up for a free hit before the survivor can reach another pallet or window. This one is map dependent and the hardest to solve.
-
The problem isn't the free injury. The problem is that once you are forced to drop a pallet, they will break it and then catch up with you before you can reach the next area that has a pallet.
-
The game was originally a tribute to slasher horror and has drifted away from that with time. With each new addition that drifts the game further from its original purpose you're going to see some complaints. Back when the Silent Hill chapter was announced I saw dozens of complaints that a horror game had no business in DbD, that it was supposed to be a celebration of slasher films. It's all a moot point now because the game is barely a horror game now, and not just because of licenses but because of mechanical changes like stealth being disincentivized and silly killer powers. But within the realm of licenses we already have Dungeons & Dragons and Nicholas Cage who is presented as a meme character with funny perks. Tokyo Ghoul is actually getting the game a little closer on-track. When they make a Naruto chapter then people will have cause to complain.
-
No, I go down instantly in a chase. There's no way to organically learn the loops and how to connect them because there's no training room to experiment in. I play the game a lot less now that stealth has been effectively deleted from the game.
-
I don't control other people's behavior.
-
I started with Meg back when the game launched because she had the most essential starting perks (Dwight was the worst of the four) and it took forever to level up back then. I stuck with her, only experimenting with other characters until the Silent Hill DLC, at which point I jumped ship to Cheryl and her legendary skins, probably permanently. So what makes me main a certain survivor is that they're from another game. A licensed character is, after all, more than a skin, because they come from something with an actual narrative and dialogues.
-
Couldn't care less about FNAF, but I'll hope the chapter ends up being good. If it is here, it may as well be good. More interested in whatever is coming next.

If i remember correctly, BHVR Devs once said they don't want to play with people fobias anymore, as they did with the Clown. So, if a Spider get into the game i believe it will be an anthropomorfic killer rather than a spider in 8 legs.
And people will try to gatekeep licenses under the pretense that this is a horror game.
-
The people who were running Distortion were not players that refused to play the game. They were people that wanted to do generators and leave the looping to others. You'd agree with them if you saw how fast they go down in a chase.
-
This game has barely had any stealth in it for years now. Nobody runs stealth perks anymore because you can't bruteforce whatever perks the killer may have brought, and a lot of killer powers render stealth null anyway.
-
I think it's because survivors can snatch victory from the jaws of defeat with those second-chance elements, whereas a killer can tell in the first minute if the match is going poorly that they've already lost and there is no clawing their way back. It's demoralizing.
-
After Dungeons and Dragons anything is technically fair game. But Vader isn't known for leaving blood. Star Wars may not be violent enough.

I think the AoT skins were silly, but Tokyo Ghoul is fine. There's worse killers made from worse material in DbD already; if anything Tokyo Ghoul is a step up.
It does leave me wondering what other horror manga/anime we could get. There's not a lot that I know of, and the few I do know wouldn't fit very well as anything other than cosmetics.
I think we'll start getting dark, violent anime that isn't necessarily horror. After something like D&D anything is fair game. There just aren't a lot of horror anime that are well known or marketable.
-
Great game but way too niche to ever be considered for DbD.

They deleted distortion, for exactly this problem, and have given killers 8346572 aura reading perks, abilities, and add-ons.
While I know that "anti hiding" is planned already, I genuinely feel that "finding survivors" is a fundamental killer skill. You can genuinely find people without aura reads at all, if you use game sense and are even vaguely aware of your surroundings.
A huge portion of these "I can't find survivors who are hiding from me" result in "oh, apparently they were in the basement and I didn't think to check there for some reason".
Killers can find survivors because survivors tend to be around generators or hooked survivors and can only move so far before the killer gets to them without running, which leaves scratch marks and leads the killer to them. Killers can't find anyone if they are just hiding in obscure corners of the map, moving just enough to avoid triggering crows.

I wouldn’t call FNAF cute since they are pretty unsettling or at least the originals were. The newever mascot horror however definitely is making cute stuff scary. I still like the OG horror icons. Myers would still scare me if I saw him staring at my window lol
That's because FNAF wasn't specifically targeting children at first, but once it became clear that children were the vast majority of fans, it started introducing sleeker, more colorful designs whose merchandise would appeal more to children, and then its imitators followed.
-
Memes, indie game stuff (mostly not even horror) and non-horror shonen anime. DbD is already clearly moving away from explicitly horror chapters with stuff like Dungeons & Dragons and Castlevania. Probably because most of the film and videogame horror greats are already represented, and stuff like Alien isn't moving the needle anymore.
-
I'm not even bothered by the content delay. I'm bothered that we need to wait another 3 weeks to figure out what the new content will be.
-
30% is an extremely high escape rate for solo queue. Most matches your teammates won't even attempt to do generators.

Can you just make a Twitch account and stream one day? No mic, webcam, I'd just love to see why some people's experiences are the complete opposite of mine.
I'm not even seeing Pain Res much anymore because it doesn't reward tunneling.
-
Virtually every single match that I play has the killer 3 hook someone, then 3 hook the next person until they win. They will leave the hook just long enough to bait an unhook but will never actually commit to chasing anyone else. They use perks like Corrupt Intervention, Deadlock, Dead Man's Switch and so on to ensure they have enough time to tunnel without needing to apply pressure to the group.
-
Do you really want to go back to the days when there were only a few viable killers even against solo queue players?

i had a nurse with pop and pain res Btw we died at 5 gens like if i saw a trapper or a pig with it i wouldn't care that much but blight, nurse, oni i have played against every killer running those 2 perks
Most of the problems with this game boil down to the fact that there is no unified vision for how strong killers should be. Blight and Myers are allowed to exist in the same game. You can't balance the game so that Pig can win without making Nurse broken.
-
It's mandatory on the weaker killers. Definitely really frustrating to see it on something like a Blight.
-
If they did we wouldn't have the Shroud (survivor spawn) offerings.
