  • If fog whisperers are getting special privilege of being able to leave a match without the d/c penalty and others aren't then thats pretty freaking lame. Even if they do get hackers more often, this clearly is a problem affecting more people than just them. Doesn't seem right or fair in my opinion.

  • Any perk that gives the killer the power to instant down the entire survivor team even if they decide to AFK the whole match will always be a problem.

  • I literally thought this to myself after seeing the new RE chapter video. I was like "wow, Leon really is a rookie." 😂 It was cool seeing Meg surviving too. I remember being a little sad when she "died" in the first RE chapter video.

Can someone actually give a valid reason why we killers should not camp or tunnel when that's the best way to win? A reason that does not involve "cause it's not fun for the other side" nonsense like that? Why should we care about survivors fun when they always try to make us have bad experiences?

Well... how long do you feel like waiting for a match after hitting that ready button? Besides that, are you really winning if you do it by camping and tunneling? The real winners are those who can 4k without doing it. Survivors don't always try to make killers have a bad experience. It happens, but it isn't every match. Even still, is the answer to your previous bad match to be toxic to the next people in the new match that you have no idea how they will play? This is why this is an endless cycle.

  • All of Kate's jorts are still visually bugged too. The slit leather skirt is also visually bugged still. I didn't even realize all of the things you mentioned were also there until I read this post.

Which outfit? I checked all the ones I mentioned back in January the other night and they still haven't been fixed.

    Hey All,

I'm sorry if this is a bit of an odd post. However, it's something that's bummed me out and I was curious if others were dealing with a similar situation.

I'm primarily a survivor main. I do both solo queue and with friends (it's about 40/60). We weren't the best but we would have a lot of fun, and yeah we'd get tunneled but it didn't stop us from playing the game. But since the patch update, all of my friends have seemed to give up on the game (and that's like a good 8-10 people). Some cite burnout, others cite that it's too demoralizing/exhausting to play survivor since the changes, and I understand both perspectives. However, now I'm just kind of the only duck sitting in the pond and I'll admit, it pretty lonely. Just wanted to put this out there, in case others were in the same pickle, and maybe had some tips on how to adjust? lol

This is literally my situation too. My friends who introduced me to the game over 2 years ago have all quit. Playing solo just isn't the same. As far as adjusting, nothing will ever replace that SWF experience so if you still like the game enough to want to keep playing it I would say play it here and there but maybe not all the time otherwise you'll keep being reminded how much better it was with your friends. Even with SWF the game wasn't always fun. There were a lot of matches where we just wanted it over and sometimes just played a different game. The matches that were fun were good memories and made it worth being something we would keep playing together. For solo que I think its harder to keep interest if you're going from SWF to solo.

It did guarantee a lot, actually.

It guaranteed you could greed loops

Make it to windows by using it for distance (Which most killers had to just sit and take with no agency)

I-frames that hard countered oppressive chase powers (Nemesis, Huntress, Victor and so on.)

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3086389#Comment_3086389

I didn't say camping/tunnelling was the meta, just that they are part of the killer experience. The devs haven't (and likely won't) make it impossible to do either because they are tactics that should be discouraged/deincentivised but not outright banned. I think Peanits said as much that the dev team prefers to encourage killers to swap targets with stuff like endurance and the like. If it's not enough, I'm sure we'll see more changes.

Also funny you mention me not saying the same about DH when DH is a perk, not a strat. You want me to justify something's existance on the survivor side? Looping. Looping is part of the surv experience, whether killers like it or not. There you go.

As far as killers tactics go, are they effective? Of course they are.

The problem with your build is Bubba, not the perks. If you have a killer who you cannot save against, then they are the problem.

Besides I never said the patch was perfect or anything like that, I just disagree with the notion that BHVR 'doesn't care' when they could've just left the game as it was pre this patch and it would've been fine for a while. They didn't tho

DH never guaranteed anything. It was an entirely situational perk. At best in the open it bought you a couple seconds unless you used it at distance then you gained a few seconds. In the best situations for survivors it had to be used at the right moments to offer a considerable reward. You're comparing the plays of high MMR players which is not the norm to that of casual player's use of the perk which is the norm. Any expectation for the majority of survivors to improve up to the skill level of the 1% is unreasonable and will only be met with criticism and negative reviews. I looked at the steam reviews for DBD yesterday and today and was shocked at how many negative reviews this game has gotten since the patch when live. Clearly people are not happy with this and at the end of the day the only thing that matters for this game is satisfied customers.

If DH wasn't 'that good' why was it used in 70% of games? Why was it the most used perk in the whole game?

What I'm about to say isn't a dismissal of your opinion, it's just something I want to point out

If you've never played killer (Esp m1 based killers) for an extensive amount of time, you might not fully understand why the perk was as complained about as it was. As someone who's lost entire matches because of this perk, let me assure you the frustration and cheapness of the perk was there and well earned.

It was used a lot, but did it guarantee anything? No. A killer could have 5 good games in a row but if they have 1 match where a team of DH users doesn't give them the same result as the previous 5 matches then they'll likely remember that 1 match more than the other good ones they had. Negative experiences seem to resonate more than positive ones in certain things. Its kind of a pattern in PvP games in my opinion.

Scott is mostly a killer main. Saying survivors simply need to adapt is making light of the issue that survivors have been nerfed 6 years non-stop and might be tired of adapting. Killers were massively buffed so they don't have to adapt.

Survivors got nothing to replace their meta perks, while killers simply got more or even stronger slow gen perks with STBFL as base-kit and slower gens on top of more slow down regression perks. Scott didn't talk about that.

This right here! A lot of survivor mains are essentially having to relearn how to play the game again after the last patch. Metas form as a counter to the opponent but it doesn't mean those metas break the game or make it impossible for killers to win. I'll never believe DH was as problematic as killer mains made it out to be. It never worked out for me half the time and I even stopped using it because I found better value in other perks.

  • @Brokenbones said:

Sluzzy you can think what you want, I'm not gonna tell you that your opinion is wrong

    But

Dead Hard was objectively broken once it was fixed.

Also, the developers do not agree with you. They said kill rates were lower than they want, so they buffed killer. The developers themselves disagree with you Sluzzy.

But what do they want the kill rates to be? I can tell you from my experience I have seen way more survivors die than escape. If the new survivor experience is to be them dying more than they used to in a match then survivor mains probably aren't going to be too happy about that.

You say this, but based on what you have written on this forum in the past I have no doubt you would take issue no matter how they went about it. People who have issue with representation will always find the smallest thing they can to explain why "I don't have an issue with it, I just don't like how they did it" Oh, please!

If the next character that is lgbt is introduced the same way all the previous characters were introduced, I won't take issue with it. Make the character cool with an awesome cinematic to introduce them with. Make their perks interesting and give them awesome cosmetics. That is what sells the characters the most in my opinion.

I bet the creators of those games haven’t said they won’t add LGBTQ+ content before though, have they?

    context is important.

I still think if BHVR had one stance before and a different one now concerning this they still could do it in more subtle ways and it still be meaningful. I think its less controversial when characters are introduced with this known about them rather than having it be something revealed about them years later. I do get that since the roster didn't have a character previously introduced as such it makes having the first one be behind a paywall open for criticism as well so perhaps now that won't be thrown at the first original lgbt survivor.

  • @Mooks said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3078008#Comment_3078008

He was set apart. Because they have been explicitly excluding anything LGBTQ+ related. His inclusion ended this (before they have only talked about it to the point it almost felt like queerbaiting and added charms which were nice but definitely not enough as far as actual inclusion goes)

have you also talked about how heterosexual relationships were treated differently all those years before? You seem very active now and seem to care about equal treatment. I really hope that’s not only the case for one direction?

I actually do hope future lgbt characters in dbd are introduced the same way a non lgbt character would be. When they release the first new original survivor that is lgbt I don't think many people are going to make a big deal about it if their sexuality isn't announced separately. Also as I said in other games I have played, lgbt characters were introduced the same way other characters were so they weren't treated differently. I'd mention them but they involve story spoilers incase someone may not have played them yet.

  • @Mooks said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3077945#Comment_3077945

You will always find something about inclusion and representation of LGBTQ+ that’s different than heterosexual relationships. Just being LGBTQ+ is being different, and it’s being differently viewed and commented on by society in any case. You don’t come out as straight, it would not make sense to ‚reveal‘ a character as straight and it’s not expected by anyone reasonably. I think the movie ‚Love, Simon‘ expressed this in a great way (about heterosexual teens coming out as heterosexual to their parents) - it doesn’t make sense to demand this kind of equality.

it’s rather about equal treatment in the sense of finally not being explicitly excluded. This is the greatest and most important aspect of inclusion. And this is also the reason why they emphasized David’s reveal. (That and the fact they are collaborating with GaymerX)

Diversity, equality and inclusion does not celebrate or emphasize one thing over another.

And they didn’t do this with David being gay. It wasn’t about gay over straight. At all.

and I can tell you that people would be raging if they ever revealed a still image of two male characters dancing as a still image on Valentine’s Day without any other lore context.

I've seen lgbt characters before in other games that are story driven that were simply there and a part of the story like every other character in it. For David's case it felt like he was set apart due to his sexuality in my opinion. I have never seen the sexuality of a character announced and celebrated the same way David's was. That is why, to me, it felt as such.

  • @Seraphor said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3077007#Comment_3077007

There's never any way of doing this that doesn't 'feel lame' for some people.

You can't say an existing character is gay because then it's a retcon, you can't introduce a brand new character and say they're gay because now it's tokenism and that's all that character exists for. There will always be something to find fault in.

Yet heterosexual characters never have any problems like this. You can introduce an opposite-sex partner for any character and nobody bats an eye. Which just goes to show that this representation is far from being unnecessary.

Until we can all go "hey that's neat, moving on" whenever a character is revealed to be anything other than heteronormative, then it doesn't matter how it's implemented, it needs to be implemented.

The very fact that months after the update this is still being debated, is just all kinds of disappointing.

People think David's sexuality was a retcon because they assumed he was straight all these years. It wasn't a retcon. It was an addition to his lore. Because this happened 5 years after his release and his lore implied he was straight by mentioning girl friends, its going to take some time before people realize it wasn't a retcon. Even still, I think there will always be people who think it was. Leaving things like this in the air for so long only makes it harder for it to be accepted when it happens.

They also made a public announcement of Wraith and Nurse being a thing. I think it was even with a valentines e-card or something.

so.. they actually announced and advertised a heterosexual relationship between playable characters. Which also was mentioned in their cosmetic descriptions iirc.

A still image of wraith and nurse in a dance pose on valentines day (which showed purchasable cosmetics for them) is not the same as giving special attention to a character solely on the basis of their sexuality. There was no celebration or official announcement of their sexuality. To compare those 2 things as if they were the same is a bit of a stretch. Valentines day in the secular sense is a day to celebrate love. The wraith and nurse picture can be interpreted as symbolic of love and doesn't limit it to be exclusively symbolic of only heterosexual relationships. Announcing David's sexuality the way they did set him apart from everyone else and made it an exclusive thing about him to celebrate. Unless every character going forward is going to have their sexuality announced in the same way, there is no equality there. Diversity, equality and inclusion does not celebrate or emphasize one thing over another. If you feel they did this in the past with other characters in the context of heterosexuality, then other sexualities should be treated in like manner. Announcing and celebrating David's sexuality was not done in like manner like in the wraith and nurse picture that you think was an announcement of a heterosexual relationship.

For what it's worth, I would've preferred to discover it naturally rather than have found out via an announcement.

Yes absolutely. I've played a few story driven games where these elements were simply there within the story and never emphasized or treated differently than anyone else in the game. It just happened naturally.

    "in the lore"

I was specifically referring to David's in-game lore, not what happens on social media outside of the game. That's a separate issue.

I know. I just felt like it was a relevant point to David's character in general since this detail wasn't just presented in his lore but also announced publicly.

  • @ImmersedNurse Just wanted to comment on what you said above about David being a gay character being treated equally in the lore. (I didn't quote it because you were responding to another forum member and I just wanted to comment on one thing you said in it).

David is the first and only character in DBD who's sexuality has been publicly announced and celebrated by the company who made him. That is not equality. That is giving special attention to a character based solely on the fact that he is now gay. This is counter productive to the idea of normalization and diversity in my opinion.

  • @psionic said:

I think at the time David and Huntress were release Behaviour was not thinking about characters sexuality (I guess lore wasn't a priority before). But you know, DbD evolved and representation is always welcome. I'm glad the chose an original character.

DBD hasn't really evolved in the lore sense really. They've added more lore but DBD isn't a story driven game and without content that makes the character's lore relevant these extra details about any given character only hold so much substance. If I had to guess, I would say most character purchases in DBD have been merely based on the outward appearance of the character rather than anything pertaining to their lore.

  • It was a recent revelation for the players and not something that was part of his lore for the first 5 years he was in the game. Its something they worked to add to his lore over the past year.

  • Kate sells. From a marketing perspective it makes sense. Every time I play DBD I see some survivors way more often than others and Kate is one of them. Some I never see at all. It makes sense for them to make more cosmetics for the more popular survivors.

  • My matches tonight have been mostly miserable. I had only a couple that were Ok. My last match against a legion was beyond annoying. I can't tell you how many times I had to mend that match and the amount of time that 1 generator was left to do that never got done. I literally just gave up because the game just got very boring and I wanted out of it. Escaping now feels like an impossible challenge. I don't think I have had a match yet where the killer didn't have thanatophobia and other gen slowing perks. Doing gens now has basically just become a chore instead of an objective. Tunneling is still the norm it seems. My guess is in the coming days killer mains are just going to be running all the perks that make the match last as long as possible.

She kind of does actually now that you mention it. It definitely spooked the hell out of me when I first saw this Spirit running past me. 😂

  • Not only did I get the Spirit but I got the AoT Spirit as my first Spirit match after the update! It only took 4 matches too. Lucky me I guess. 😁

    AoT Spirit.jpg

  • Is it really? I bought the rift way back when it was available there so I can't see any in game pricing on it anymore. I didn't even know it was available for iri shards. I wonder if this is intended or not. I will say it would be pretty lame if it was iri shards before the update and changed to auric cells only after.

  • AoT is something I saw maybe 5 minutes of while flipping through channels on the TV I don't know how many years ago. It didn't interest me at all. When I saw it was going to be a thing in dbd I scratched my head too and wondered why.

  • It might be too early to tell but people sure seem to be really divided on these changes. I think killer mains are more likely to keep playing when the game may seem rough for them than survivors are. Survivors are the ones chased, thrown on hooks, mori'd, camped, slugged and tunneled. Killers only have to deal with so much from survivors and can't be eliminated from the match. If survivor mains feel those things are more common now or just happen easier than before then I can see why they'll decide they've had enough. The killer role in my opinion has always seemed easier to just accept a bad match and move on. Speaking from a survivor main perspective however reaching those points of frustration that just make you want to close the game out do happen often.

  • Dead Hard was never press E to win. DH was only ever a chance to avoid a hit and bought you mere seconds unless you had something to work with nearby and knew how to use it.

  • All the games I already play other than DBD which has become my least played game now.

Overwatch (most favorite), WoW, 7 Days to Die, Ark, Stardew Valley, Raft to name a few.

It never seems to end well when things like this happen. People care about their favorite franchises. I just checked the Rotten Tomatoes review page for the netflix Resident Evil show and well... lets just say its pretty bad.

Synopsis:Year 2036 -- 14 years after the spread of Joy caused so much pain, Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by the blood-thirsty infected and mind-shattering creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father?s chilling connections to the sinister Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie.

"The new" isn't always a good thing and the long established fandom of one of the most iconic franchises in video game history is speaking their mind on this. Their opinion and criticism matters. This may appeal to a new audience but its not going to go without the criticism of the original fandom that don't like what they see. Criticism is not off limits and praise is not the only opinion allowed on things like this. Some things are better left unchanged but rather expanded on from its roots.

I'm not going to not give my opinion about something just because you don't like it. If you don't like what I have to say about something then don't read it and most certainly don't respond to it.

I don't know whats going on in the entertainment industry these days but it sure seems like they are very disconnected from the fandoms that made these iconic franchises.

  • I've gotten 2 cenobites, 1 artist and 1 sadako recently but for the most part I hardly see these killers. I've been wanting to have more dredge matches but after the first week or so of its chapter release I haven't gotten a single dredge match.

I remember back when the Resident Evil movies were being made and I watched all of them. There was a lot of criticism on how they didn't reflect the story of the game. I personally loved the RE movies and loved the introduction of a new character like Alice. Even though the movies didn't fully reflect the game's story I greatly enjoyed them and I defend them to this day as being a great addition to the franchise. The idea of Resident Evil is very inspirational so even with stories within the franchise that don't fully reflect the canon story can still be done well. It needs to be handled with care however and not strive too far away from its roots.

Bestie read the comments people don't like Wesker being black and the main characters being women and the movie that just came out made the actors disable their social media accounts due to all the racism RE needs new blood in it's fandom because the old one is super toxic

Wesker has a special charm about him and his outward appearance for 26 years is a big part of that charm. I don't think the criticism is because people have a problem with black people. I think its really just because Wesker has a long time established image and the original RE fandom is still around and values that image. As far as main characters being women, I don't see how that is a problem. Resident Evil's most iconic characters have been women (Claire, Jill, Ashley Rebecca) to name a few. If any of the iconic female characters from the franchise appear in the show I'm sure that alone is going to bring in a lot of fans just out of curiosity.

I commented based on what I have seen and in response to the criticism of a particular character in the RE franchise. I'm not denying nor have I said the Wesker in the netflix show did or did not do a good job representing the character. Maybe he did and if I watch it I'll decide for myself if he did. I've been an RE fan for over 20 years so I know Wesker when I see him. And no, the older RE fandom is not racist, misogynistic and homophobic. Thats basically stereotyping an entire fandom of a franchise because you disagree with their idea of authenticity or was there some other reason you think this about millions of people from 2 decades back?

The Wesker In the new netflix show Is the best he's ever been :)

Is he? Well if he pulls it off and really is the best Wesker has ever been then I'm sure the reviews will reflect it and it'll be received very well by RE fans too. I haven't seen any reviews yet but just going from reactions I've seen on social media, its not looking all that promising.

  • Your picture isn't really reflecting the reactions a lot of people are giving to just the Wesker part of the show, let alone the reaction to the show itself. Just browsing through social media for a few minutes and you can see people are divided on this so your picture should have groups of people on the left side too. Wesker is one of the most iconic Resident Evil characters in the franchise and in horror gaming. Wesker has basically looked the same for 26 years since his debut in 1996. If he all of a sudden looks like a different person in a story about Resident Evil then its not unreasonable for a lot of long time fans of the franchise to take issue with this. People are just used to the iconic Wesker they've known for so long. I can't imagine a lot of RE fans are really going to be interested in this. We'll have to see what the reviews are like.

  • I've only seen Haddie 2 times since her chapter released. As far as the rarest goes I would have to say Jane as I can't recall the last time I saw her in one of my matches.

Man, I didn't know running in a straight line and looking backwards was so difficult, everyone who does that is a comp player

It took me months to learn how to do this and even longer to learn how to do it effectively and still I don't find myself doing it every time because I'm more focused on finding the nearest vault or pallet. It sounds easy but when survivors are getting chased it all depends how comfortable they are with the chase (and if they know how to do it) on whether they can look behind them during a chase.

Reread my post, and the one after it about efficiency. You're only assuming the worst of the opposite side while ignoring the worst of your own. Thats bias.

I played 5 matches last night against 5 different killers on 5 different maps. Out of all 5 matches I think a total of 3 generators were completed and the killer got a very fast 4k every time. I am not a top MMR player. I'm not great at this game. I was matched against killers who were able to take full control of a match in a matter of seconds. This should not be the experience of a casual survivor main. This is not fun and it most certainly doesn't make me look forward to the next time I play this game. For every bad match a killer has there is probably 100 survivor mains having an even worse match against a sweaty killer. The "worst of our own" is not the majority experience of survivor mains especially those who play solo que. They are the top MMR players who I will never see and get matched with but yet I'll constantly get matched with a killer thats way better at the game than I am.

I'm sorry but the bias is palpable. While you could easily argue sweaty killers make playing survivor (especially solo) much less fun and interactive, what do you have to say about sweaty survivors making killer just as miserable? What if half the time a killer is tunnelling or camping its preemptively avoiding getting steamrolled? Its very easy to require a higher onus of skill from your opponent when making balance considerations, but you have to apply the same to your own side as well.

Killers can't really escape from bad matches, while survivors are practically forced to. Many killers would rather remove the chances of a bad match ASAP than risk having to endure it. Camping and tunnelling will always exist (even if nerfed into the ground,) but in many cases its seen as a defense mechanism vs absolutely busted matches they've experienced, and the mental fatigue/insults/etc that often come with those.

Making other playstyles more viable is the best way to reduce camping and tunnelling. full stop.

Sweaty survivors are usually mentioned in the context of SWF. In solo que, I'm lucky if I get someone on my team that can run the killer for more than 10 seconds. I can't tell you how many times I've had the last survivor on my team walk and hide while the killer is rushing to find the hatch. They don't even try and then run up to the nearest exit gate thinking they'll make it which never ends well for them. I never base my arguments around the top MMR experience. I base it on my experience and what I most commonly see and what I most commonly see are killers gaining quick advantages and control over a match where then survivors have to risk the entire match to try and recover the situation. Killers have too much power and control in this game. Ever played against a cenobite with gen reduction perks? I have never had a fun match let alone escaped against a cenobite with builds like this because they simply have more control over the progression of the match. The game has too many perks and the more it keeps adding the harder its going to be to ever get it into any kind of balanced state.

  • If the update makes the game harder to play and enjoy for survivors than it already is, I would guess quite a few.

Because people ignore the purpose of the game, that is why.

I'm a Survivor Main. When I hear a terror radius, I hide. Do you know why?

Because the objective of the game is to AVOID the killer, complete give generators, and escape.

    AVOID the killer.

    AVOID.

As long as people keep up this "I WANNA BE CHASED!" garbage, you are gonna keep getting hooked.

No they are very well aware what the "purpose of the game" is. They're just sick of sweaty killers treating this game like its an olympic sport.

Interactions are SUPPOSED to be a lost cause. You are SUPPOSED to go down. Chases are meant to be delayment of the inevitable. This whole "I wanna be chased!" thing comes to a grinding halt when it smashes into the reality wall of the Killer shoving you on a hook.

If you are getting downed in the first minute, congratulations. You got a chase and lost. Here are the consequences of your actions. You manged to get seen (mistake), get caught out of position (mistake again), lose the first chase (mistake yet again), get hit and then get hit a second time to get downed (mistake YET AGAIN!)....

.... and now you are sitting on the hook crying foul?

You're still not seeing why for years survivors are still talking about camping and tunneling in a negative light. You want survivor mains to see getting annihilated in a match by sweaty killers as normal and part of the experience of the game. It shouldn't be part of the experience of the game at all. This is about satisfied customers and clearly if people are constantly complaining about the same 2 things for years then they're probably not satisfied, are they? And I know killer mains are part of the game too, but if you think camping and tunneling should be the norm then you're just wanting the same cycle to continue where people get sick of it, complain about it here and eventually quit. This is a problem whether you like it or not. Its the reason why this thread exists as well as all the other ones before and all the ones that will after.

Why do you assume they care about all of that? have you seen how biased and entitled they are?

Are you talking about survivor mains? If so I genuinely think most survivors are just looking to have better matches where they don't feel like their efforts were a lost cause and like I said get eliminated faster than it took them to get into the match.
