yeah, I'm out after these changes. Camping will be even more viable, gens times will make the game more boring, etc. Not to mention what all of these changes will do to solo players...
What game will you be playing?
May I recommend Evil Dead, it's actually really fun and dare I say less 'toxic'. 😜
-
What they gave to Off The Record is what they should have given to DS, especially if they wanted it to deactivate at endgame.
In other words this perk should really... like REALLY shine prior to endgame. Same way Adrenaline and Hope do at end-game.
-
We all know this.
Some of us just choose to understand it more than others.

When you play against well coordinated survivors you can see how busted gen speed is, even without prove thyself.
I've been in coordinated groups, I see a lack of mobility in M1 killers and map design that prevents them from getting to point A to point B.
So, no the gens themselves aren't "busted".
Because on the flip side, you have more oppressive killers WITH mobility where normal gen speeds with slow downs are too much.

We've tested a whole bunch of durations for them leading up to this, and often times they felt too long to be in the base kit. 5 seconds may not sound like much, but it can be a game changer. As long as you can reach a pallet in that time, it accomplishes the same thing. Alternatively, another Survivor can use this time to get in position and take a hit for you.
5 seconds is not a lot. Hell, 15 isn’t a lot right now. If a killer wants to tunnel they will.
You also don’t realize that there are killers like Bubba, like Huntress that can easily cheese the 5 seconds and wait. You have no time to position yourself if all the killer needs to do is wait 5 seconds. Current BT is still giving people a better chance.
What we needed was something a long time lines of Pyramid Head’s cages.
-
They are truly disconnected from their own game if they think that gen speeds are a problem.
Map design and Individual killer mobility are the issue.
-
Yikes.
-
.....
Because they do not need to. I can't wait for BHVR to come out with DBD-style headphones so ya'll will stop trying.

tunneling is not braindead against a survivor that knows how to loop and when the killer is not a blight/nurse. Braindead loops exist and they hurt m1 killers the most. Maps also affect, perks too. Point is: Tunneling can be hard.
Oh sure, because every area has that specific tile you speak of.. NOT. Listen, the point wasn't can the survivor find tiles in the map to try to make tunneling "harder".
The point was the act of Tunneling... You know, when a killer decides "I don't feel like pressuring gens, so I am gonna stay around hook and go for the very person I just hooked" ISN'T skillful play. That is the point. Regardless of whether or not you feel it is fair, that isn't hard to do.

That has nothing to do with my post tho. At no point am I saying that DH isn't strong or that SB is as strong as DH, just that DH and SB excel at different things.
And I disagree that SB can be played around as a killer. If you are playing an M1 killer like Freddy, Ghostface, or Myers, you have no tools to deal with a survivor running from a deadzone to a safe tile unlike already strong killers like Huntress, Blight, or Nurse who have the mobility or range to deal with it. And the killers that can deal with SB the best are also the same killers that deal with DH the best, so it's not like nerfing DH is suddenly going to make weaker killers more usable if SB becomes more popular. So I imagine they'll still be complaints about exhaustion perks after DH nerf.
Now granted fearmonger can deal with SB, but having certain killers feel pressured to run a specific perk is not really a great solution either. Same reason why devs are looking at base changes to the game while adjusting multiple slowdown perks.
As a Michael Myers main, I understand exactly what you are talking about. This is why I brought up the point above.
Part of the people who choose to play with DH isn't because they aren't good at running anything else. They just like riskier playstyles it is part of the fun in the game. So when I have someone who understands that the next time they go around they don't have to worry because they can simply dash with Dead Hard to give them that distance. I am going to assume that they also understand that they are not when they have SB and that instead they get to keep 2 health states instead of one while getting to a "safe" zone. Which is what I think people will see a lot more of.

90%...there's hyperbole and then there's being Cable News.
Yes, sometimes DH would jank out. But it was still incredibly popular.
Ex perks can be strong, but they don't amount to a third health state that can eat killer powers. You can't SB over a trap. You can't Lithe through a Slinger shot. You can't bypass Nemmy's pallet break with Balanced Landing.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3009478#Comment_3009478
The core issue with DH is that, if used properly, can be anything from 'lol, I have a free health state' and 'lol, I just DH'd to that pallet and now you've lost Bloodlust and the chase will take another minute'.
SB is a strong perk, but it's strong in the right way in that it comes with a sacrifice in sustained speed and can actually be played around. The only counterplay to DH is mindgames that don't often work.
As I've already mentioned before every exhaustion perk has "annoyance" attached to it, the thing is the majority of the reason DH is popular is because people like to engage in chases. Because holding M1 on a generator is boring af. Most other perks do not allow that for people because that is not how they work. There is a fun aspect to DH which is that you feel like you are in danger and you have to calculate when to use and when not to. With some situations being outright baited by the killer's own ability.
I have gotten away from Bubba's power with SB and even Lithe because unlike DH, those perks give me the distance needed to get to a safe zone. I have also been able to work on a generator without any worry in the world that a Ghostface just stalked and exposed me because I know I can finish the gen in his face and leave to go to another safe zone. Those are just as annoying.
People choosing not to see the "annoyance" in each one is on them. It's there. Something being more popular does not change that. Which is why I say that once more people start using SB the crying will just switch to that.
-
@ad19970 said:
I am bit worried too that Sprint Burst isn't getting looked at. Or just exhaustion perks in general. I feel like it will just be the new meta perk, with DH nerfed.
But I guess a new meta is better than nothing. Hopefully they will keep their promise and keep chaning perks in the future as well.
It won't be looked at until the forums start to cry about it.
When DH was still prominent and 90% of the people who used it resulted in being exhausted on the ground, nobody said peep. If people switch to SB and it becomes a more popular perk it will be the same thing that is happening to DH right now. People being annoyed by it because they see it in every match.
It's a vicious cycle with this community. Complain about whatever annoys you. Even though literally each exhaustion perk has scenarios attached to them which would be considered annoying.
-
I really don’t understand why the masks weren’t like in a special chest that you had to hunt down for within the map. So it felt more like a scavenger hunt, rather than a sweat fest.
-
@INoLuv said:
Tunneling is weak because of DS, after DS there are the braindead loops to deal with and dead hard, which is wrong because DS punishes the killer for rushing the kill, while survivors can rush the gens without punishment.
Lmao 🤣
But tunneling isn’t brain dead right? How many pallets did you get stunned with before making it back to the hook? Since apparently it’s soooo “skillful”
-
My friends and I have already started experimenting with SB, and the matches are much more safe.
What we discovered is that, there are A LOT of scenarios where SB is better than DH, that are just as crucial as your beloved "DH to a pallet"....
- You are hooked near far from an exit gate... SB will get you there, which means that you also keep your BT endurance and escape much more safely.
- You can afford to stay on a gen for much longer before the killer gets too close, no matter how "safe" the zone is.
- You can make risky plays around saving teammates because there is no more 'trading' if you manage to get there before you can get hit.
- The list goes on...
Sure you may not love DH, but to undervalue SB because you are not as annoyed by it because you don't see it as often is a big mistake.
-
I don't understand why people are comparing SWF with Nurse. Is SWF a killer with a power? Can survivors teleport between walls too and ignore in-game mechanics?
I don't think every killer is suitable (not capable because there is evidence that they can) to face every single swf scenario. However, it depends on many things, like are they running meta perks? Is your hex in a ######### spawn location? The majority of the things that SWF survivors can do, a solo team CAN also. The difference is the reliability factor because you are playing with strangers vs friends who aren't as willing to make specific decisions that are detrimental, like taking hits, bringing perks like BT to semi-counter Camping and Tunneling, not healing while they could be doing a gen... etc etc
-
Nah, nothing will make me switch from being a Dweet main
-
I love facing SWF. And no.

The game actually used to be fun at some point. But that was before SBMM became a thing
You’re not wrong, SBMM definitely made a giant difference in the casualness that came from in between matches you would get after playing sweaty ones.
For me there are issues that are seeded so deep that have to do with perk-reliance (BT, DS as examples) and Map design on both killer pressure (M1 killers not having mobility to get from point A to point B in a decent amount of time) AND also Maps lacking interaction via more than just dropping a pallet and playing ring around the Rosie.
The game is about to reach its 6th anniversary, like, at this point we should have other things to do besides gens and other ways to play when in a chase.
-
I— - can’t say I disagree.
I’ve started playing Evil Dead lately and I am so happy there is no post chat in that game. You can tell a difference.
I think it’s the devs’ move at this point. The ball is on their court if they want to see players have a better experience. The game currently is full of RNG, whether it’s map design being against killer or survivors, whether it’s survivors wanting to play with non-meta perks only to be subjected to being camped and tunneled, whether it’s killer being subjected to false accusations… we could go on.
The game has the potential to be fun, and it makes me angry that we don’t have that. I know there is no simple answer or solutions and there are many hours and players who genuinely just want to have a good time. The devs should re-work the game from this perspective… that EVERYONE wants to have a fun and interactive game. Winning is absolutely fun, but much of the matches you win in DBD have some type of RNG attached to them followed by players cheesing the match via perks or in-game playstyles.
I remember I used to have more matches in the past where I was losing but I was still having fun, now not so much.

Do you have a guilty complex about camping or tunneling that requires you to define them out of existence to absolve yourself or something?
Yes, you are being camped and tunneled. Yes, you're allowed to do these things, no one is going to stop you. Yes, they're valid strategies and you can do them if you want to. No, they aren't fun to be on the receiving end of. Yes, if you do these things without the intention of winning, you're probably a prick.
You are the grandpa we have, but the one we don’t deserve.
Spot on. People seem to forget about the part where there are other human beings on the other end. Like I don’t think people complain because they want sympathy. They just want to play the game and not have to play the part of sacrificial lamb for a match where they have most likely waited a long time to get in. I think that is a fair complaint, regardless of how much of a “strat” it falls under.

I mean look. I understand in certain situations why people camp. Hell I do it to and many others. But some people do it to be complete scum bags like that myers above. 2v1 at 5 gens. Still camp
I agree, I think this 'theory' that killers only camp during a specific situation is ridic.
That is why I think it is a cheap tactic, because while no one is saying don't camp, half of them don't even admit that they do or try to excuse it with "Oh but the maps are too big" "Oh but killers only camp at end-game"... etc etc. when those of us who have to give up a match just so the rest can get gens done know it isn't true.

I think nerfing DS in the end game and buffing it in the not-end game is where we need to be.
I don't think the game should be "do gens" so that the other side gets to have easy access to a kill.
That isn't what DBD should be about IMO.

Coincidentally, I feel similarly about anyone who suggests that the counter to DS is to directly play into it and that it's fine to get punished by DS when you intentionally try to play around it over the course of the game.
DS needs a bit more tweaking in its current state.
Well, considering the state of the game, where they have done nothing regarding why DS gets brought in the first place, I.E. (Camping/Tunneling not being even remotely changed). I don't think nerfing DS is where we need to put the focus on.
You see it as "you have to eat DS" well what about those hundreds of survivors who have "eat a hook state" because someone decided they wanted to exploit a playstyle that doesn't punish them whatsoever?
I do agree DS needs tweaking, by that I mean more buffs since it clearly doesn't deter any killer from Camping and Tunneling.

This is what you sound like just an fyi, "you idiot you know huntress and trickster can throw stuff over pallets and injure you how can not know that."
meanwhile im just sitting here wondering if you read out loud what you type of lol, you can still stun Nurse at pallets she isnt immune to them, you can block her with it by double backing on pallets when she uses up her first blink for distance and then uses the second blink to try to catch you. You make a choice on whether to go back on her side throwing down the pallet on the other side of the loop you were just on or staying on the side and throwing down the pallet. I typically throw it towards her unless she catches on im going to do that, yes you can use pallets against Nurse, no you dont use it normally, yes that is possible. In before you make a reply saying the same thing as before that only makes me wish I never tried discussing anything with you in the first place lol.
I really don’t care what you think I sound like. I usually do not call anyone an idiot unless they give me a reason to, so quotation marks on something I never called you isn't going to change that.
You act as if a pallet stun (something which is very rare- like one in a million) is a reliable counter against Nurse. First off, stunning her would be counter productive because if it is her first blink, you are not getting rid of her power. She can just recharge her second blink and down you. At which point good luck finding cover.
Usually when I think of a counter to a killer, I don't think about the most miniscule way that you can counter them. Especially on a character that by default ignores most mechanics in the game.
-
Honestly I think anyone who suggests it to deactivate is just clueless.
DS is fine as it is in it's current state.
-
This why I will always prefer playing killer over solo queue.
Too damn stressful.
At least playing killer I can control the match from my end.

Yeahhhhhhh, no.
I am not against buffing weak killers. But you can not buff them to Nurse level. There is problems;
- Nurse and Blight are S-tier killer for a reason. Both killers needs high skills. Casual killers can not use them very well, you need to pratice and learn.
- Wraith, Legion, Trapper etc are easy to learn killers. If you bring them to S-tier, people will play easy killers. Easy killers should not have strong powers.
- Like i said, killers are already op against low tier survivors. Everyone are not playing this game for long days. People are playing this game after work, school for couple games. You can not expect from casuals to be good players. They have not time to pratice those things. They will just leave game, if game stops being fun. Your suggestion is making game unfun for casual survivors.
- Killers have long queues when BHVR releasing new chapters. And imagine if all killers be Nurse level, more people will play killer. Less people will play surv. And plus people will leave game if they can not enjoy with surv. Result = Really long killer queues. You need 4 survivor for match. If you make game pain for survivors, less people will play surv. I'd leave game if all killers became to Nurse level and i am not even surv main.
- Tunnel and camp are strong strategies. Even Nurse and Blights are tunnelling when they want. So this strategies would be worse.
- Solo survivors have not enough information like SWF teams. You would destroy Solo-q exp, it is already so bad atm.
We need better balance. But balancing game around Nurse is not healthy for sure.
I tend to agree with everything you said here.
There is even an argument to be made about some killers' powers not being made for high skill ceilings. Like, they would literally have to completely re-design said killer's powers in order for them to to actually be harder for them to be learned.

This is my least favorite thing about the forums, how can you just ignore everything they said just to get your dumb point across. Like do you really think he meant to act like you were playing against every other m1 killer to pallet stun them? Do you just drop pallets normally against the huntress or completely ignore pallets when you see a huntress? Well guess what skilled players can get stuns against killers with anti-pallet abilities, you don't go about them the same way as typical m1 killers though, but you probably don't know this seeing as how you are blatantly ignoring this fact.
Who ever said anything about throwing pallets against Nurse the same as you would against an M1 killer.
I am questioning your idea that you can use a pallet as a means to counter Nurse. I can't believe I even have to ask...
You do realize that she can go through them, right?
-
@Marigoria said:
Lethal Pursuer exists, so yes it would be too strong.
Without Lethal I think it would be fine imo
Exactly what I was thinking.
For me he is already annoying enough to go against, not because I feel he is OP, but because half of the match involves trying to rush a gen because of his snowball potential.
-
After playing Evil Dead, and seeing how cool and unique each character feels there. I think it would be a great idea.
I think the real challenge is that there are too many characters and perks in DBD. So it’s much harder to balance especially because how heavily reliant on perks survivors are. Because then it makes it hard to even add just ‘subtle’ unique traits.
-
I actually hope they introduce more perks like Dead Hard.
I agree that it is fun and also interactive. I think it provides intensity that this game lacks ALOT. The killer can mind-game and bait it out in some situations WHILE the survivor can mind-game and dodge the killer's swing in some situations, and die in others.
When I play killer and people have SB matches seem boring to me because it's basically they just gaining a lot of distance or as much as possible and holding W. I'm not a fan of playing ring around the rosie so to me it is by far the least fun part of this game.
-
I think when they refuse to escape they are being friendly?
Idk, I don’t think every flashlight click or t-bag means they are cocky. Sometimes it’s just more like a “hey! Kill me so you can have a kill”.
-

Gen speeds are the bone of the game. So much stuff was built around them. It would be insanely difficult to change gens speeds that would satsify everyone and make sure it doesnt break something.
Maps changing or a new slowdown mechanic could be introduced to combat this.
They would have to literally nerf a lot, if not all gen slow down perks in order to nerf their base speed.
Something which I believe they won’t do.

The killer wants to tunnel someone out because it's the most effective way to win.
If the gens went slower, they'd STILL do it because they like winning, only it's even more effective now.
I don't understand why in 2022 people are still under this assumption that "If x/y/z happened killers would play nicer and not tunnel and camp".
Killers take advantage of what they can, even when scales are not against them.

The nurse does NOT ignore anything.
Her ability is based on phasing, you can still use pallets, you can still use the line of sight, skill hard etc.
Skilled survivors know how to use the above things and the time and place of when to use them for example when she blinks and she's about to swing after you've double-backed over a pallet loop and you throw the pallet on the swing, not the block.
Sounds like a user error problem.
Imagine thinking you can use a pallet against Nurse. LOL
You have obviously never played against a Nurse seeing as you think pallets are a counter to her power.

Fair is fair after all.
Except that you dont need to play extreme Nurse for her to be considered broken.

"Oppressive" aka anything which stands a chance against a SWF.
Survivor virtue calling code words.
No, it's understanding balance in a game. SWF have little advantage when compared to how much of the game Nurse ignores.
It doesn't take a genius to know this.
-
You have more perks to slow gens down than ever before. There shouldn’t really be an excuse. You are merely there to patrol gens not guard them.
Also, you provide no context of what killer you played, what map, how many hours. All of which make a difference in the match. Because RNG and skill is a huge denominator of the outcome of a match in this game.
Are we to just assume that you played your match in circumstances where you should have downed and hooked someone in a reasonable timeframe?

it's not unheard of for some games to allow players to disable other players cosmetics. Town of Salem allows it.
I think it's be cool to be able to turn them off. Also the ability to adjust an extended sound settings.
Other games also have different customization options.
The charms are already small enough that you can't even see them half the time. So I consider "hiding" them an unnecessary option.
