Give us a setting in the options menu where we can select 3 maps to never play on. In case someone uses an offering it gets refunded to them. If I have to play 1 more game with Huntress on RPD or Lerrie's I will lose my mind.

This is how it would look:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/XS65YRUJNG9B/image.png

Wouldn't it be better to tweak maps so playing on them as certain killers doesn't feel like absolute poop? Or the maps where it feels awful to play as surv?

Straight up banning maps or realms I feel is unnecessary and possibly dangerous. Imagine just one surv banning Lery's, Midwich, & Gideon, and another banning all indoor maps as well.

A Myers runs Shytt-Yourself and needs a good indoor map. With this change it would be much more likely they have that build out in the corn or in the forest for example.

I thought with the introduction of bots there would be the ability to reconnect like I’ve seen in some YouTube videos of the mobile version. Just had my internet flake out for 30 seconds like it’s been randomly choosing to do lately but just see a matchmaking lock. Is reconnecting not a thing?

It is not. The mobile version was made by a separate team, and coded from the ground up from scratch. So they were able to put in lots of options, bells, and whistles that the main game can't have sadly.

Maybe over time they can somehow work it in. Most likely in a DBD2.

Flicks aren't a tech. You can do this with normal mouse sensitivity (even I can do it). You just have to know how they work. It is not quite as straight forward as you may think.

If a killer is bad on console that is not a pc issue but a console issue. And unfortunately there is no easy solution for that. Removing flicks will end up killing Blight. We do not need even less viable and fun killers. The more killers you ruin the higher Wesker's pick rate goes (best case scenario). Or you don't have many people playing killer at all and get to enjoy 15 minutes survivor queues again (worst case scenario).

Remember console cannot use M&K it's not supported for DBD. So no flicking, and also the camera turns slower than PC, even at 100% sensitivity on the controller.

  • That's not a viable solution.

If you turn off CrossPlay, you now can only matchmake with others on your particular platform that also have CrossPlay off.

So say I'm on Xbox1. If I turn CrossPlay off I'll only get lobbies with those also just on Xbox1 and also have CrossPlay off. It eliminates all with CrossPlay on, plus everyone on Xbox Series X or S, all of the PlayStations, Switch, Windows, Epic, and Steam whether that have CrossPlay on or off. Just Xbox1, if they have it off.

You'll be waiting for an hour or more, or simply never find a match at all. This is the primary reason so many on the consoles request console-only CrossPlay, because just turning it off isn't a solution.

"Please rewrite your code so I can mess it up easier."

This isn't a game feature. If you want to tamper with the game files that's on your head.

Wait, they have to mess around with the game files to do this? Won't the anti-cheat pounce on them? Aren't they screwed if banned? I seem to remember reading in these forums that the devs can't do squat if banned...

  • @DrKetchup said:

Not only do they give you WALLHACKS on both your teammates and the killer. They also double down as a FREE escape, because most of the time the killer will be defending the 2 gates, if he chooses to defend the hatch then he would open the possibility of a free gate escape.

Keys reward unskilled, teammate ignoring, selfish playstyle and they should not exist in the game!

I haven't seen more than like 3 keys in any build since they changed their hatch interaction about a year and a half ago or so. I'm betting those prolly were just for challenges too.

Their wall-hacks run out surprisingly fast, so if they still had charges left by endgame they've carefully saved them, or the match was extremely short and the killer dominated anyway, where 3 are dead and a hatch escape is absolutely a victory.

This sounds like a "but but but ma four-k" kinda rant to me.

It's not that bad. I think there are some killers that I wouldn't bother with on console due to feedback, but I play Demo and Wraith just fine. Heck, I learned to play Demo on the Switch lmao ultimately it might take a bit longer to get the hang of than it would on PC, but as someone whose never played on PC so don't know what I'm missing out on, I think it's okay.

Sucks that non of the new killer players can run our beloved Demopuppy...

That's interesting, I had no idea. I know of some Fog Whisperers who use a controller but do play on the PC. I wonder if it's so they can show PTB stuff.

It is because everything they do is through Steam, so even those on Windows or Epic cannot participate in the PTB or the Fog Whisperers, let alone the consoles. Just Steam.

I’m nearing 5k hours (4.5k console 0.5k PC) and yeah, it’s horrible when you’re against PC squads using M&K doing those loops so tight that you are practically busting your controller to be at a similar standard.

This game is a PC port and the stigma towards console players is up there with the strongest on this game, but it isn’t unmerited. Like you, I played a lot on Xbox (4000 escapes and 9000 sacrifice) but then had to swap over to PC because Xbox wasn’t given access to anonymous mode and I have since played over 400 hours on Steam, so that I can enjoy playing survivor harassment and discrimination free.

On Xbox, you will enjoy the following:

    • Paying a monthly $10+ fee just to get what steam is getting completely free. There is no option to play your owned copy of DBD for free on Xbox, you must own Xbox Live Gold.
    • No option to change your name to whatever fun and humorous thing you like, if you want to change it more than once it will cost $10+ each time and will come with an assortment of random numbers at the end of it.
    • When filing a report against someone you will only be able to select which category, whereas PC is given the option to fill in a paragraph of text to accompany the report.
    • No native M&K support for the most competitive edge (the biggest one for many people)
    • No option for Anonymous Mode, Xbox platforms being the only ones without it and complete radio silence from the devs regarding the matter.
    • No access to Public Test Beta
    • A far less optimized experience on average compared to what PC gets.
    • A general feeling of unworthiness when playing with anyone that is cross-play knowing the only platform worse than yours for this game is the Switch.
    • The most important one of all, no option for cross progression, so if you picked Xbox you are stuck with all of the above unless you start from scratch like I did.

I’m sure there are many more, but these are the things I can think of from the top of my head.

To that list I'd add no representation in the Fog Whisperer program.

I'm under no allusions about them being basically a store front for new game content, but the fact that no consoler can even apply, knowing we're the larger playerbase by a long shot, is rediculous to me.

  • I firmly believe after a thousand hours or so we all develop a love hate hate relationship with DBD. It is strangely addictive af, scratching a unique itch as no other game out there really does.

As the hours mount your knowledge grows, to the point where your passion for the game and it's potential can lead to a big ol' bundle of frustration.

So I get the need to say goodbye, and how they got here.

Apologies to my teammates who lost the match because of me, and to everyone else, please send love at this traumatic time.

To my knowledge every tech on Blight is possible on controller/console

Not if it requires timing. The half-second or so input delay robs so many things.

It's the main reason hardly no one on console runs Hag, as you are missing most of your teleport swings, which apparently are instant with a mouse wheel bind. It hinders those quick hatchet throws/shots over and through things with Huntress or Deathslinger. It's how you somehow miss more than you should with Oni's power, or Pyramidhead's too. This problem is worsened on the older consoles.

Players can practice their butts off with most killers and they will become skilled with them, but so many simply cannot be run to their full potential.

And then there's Trickster. He is the one killer I consider truly unplayable with a controller on console, and I'm not alone in that assessment.

  • @LobbyDodgerLeonidas said:

I don't believe them at all. I want them to release some hard statistics on survival rates for 4 man SWF, but they never will. Pretty sure they're hiding that they're enjoying an extremely high escape rate that's being averaged out by an abysmal solo rate

The most common SWF by far is two-mans, with threes and fours much less common.

We all need to remember nearly all of the playerbase is at best ok at this game, especially the survs. And that middling group is where they focus their attention on, not the newbies or the "sweats" nor efficient players.

So if you are in that mythical high MMR area you are in the tiny minority apparently. I'm not saying take the info for just those players and toss it out, but remember it isn't the basis for proposed changes either.

It is difficult, Console have a harder time hitting skillchecks because of framerate issues. Console also struggles with aiming, even thogh some can overcome this the lack of decent controller settings massively impact high skill aiming killers. Also, even if a select few can get around the aiming hurdles, a large majority are not that skilled. Lastly, controller gamers also struggle from bad keybinds by default, that a large majority will not even know how to change. All in all, console has it pretty bad and this is just for Xbox Series and ps5 <etc.> god save our Switch allies.

Our precious Switch cousins are the real heroes! 😁

  • The Anniversary and event hype have faded, so many returning players have dipped on out again.

From what I can tell the majority of the forum goers are either brand new or the veterans, both groups like I said have gone lurking again.

The average casual player (like my unskilled ass) I don't think posts here a lot and definitely do not comment much on other's threads. It's mostly raging or one-sided nurf-this's.

Not sure what the official stats are but I think I once saw like 70-80% console, 20-30% PC. I know it’s the 19th most played game on Xbox and was the 15th most downloaded game on PS two years ago. I don’t think it’s in the top 20 on PlayStation anymore though.

These ratios of the playerbase are about right.

The interesting thing is that although most of the players are on the consoles, we mostly play as a surv. I wonder why that is???

  • The only slugging situation I feel really needs looking at is all survs are down with no way to get up, and they are all being bled out. That shouldn't be possible, whether it's due to horrible surv play or intentional bleeding out of multiple survs.

Most likely needs something that just ends the trial then and there, kinda like the Entity killing everyone when ECG runs out.

  • The entire point of EGC is to bring the trial to an end once the gates are opened. It isn't supposed to favor one role or the other necessarily, just prevent the stalemates that were prevalent in the past.

That said, if there's a surv on the hook and at least two other survs alive during endgame, expect some teamwork efforts to get that rescue. The game provides the tools for dealing with most situations, and rng always plays an element, however it isn't supposed to be easy with that many survs still alive.

Dead by Daylight, a popular asymmetrical horror game, currently lacks mouse and keyboard support on consoles, which has been a point of contention among players. Introducing mouse and keyboard compatibility to the console version of the game would offer several compelling advantages over controller. First and foremost, it would enhance the gameplay experience for those who are accustomed to the precision and fluidity of mouse aiming and keyboard controls, potentially attracting a broader player base. Additionally, it would create a more level playing field for cross-platform gameplay, as PC players with these input options currently have an advantage over console players. By integrating mouse and keyboard support on consoles, the developers would not only cater to the preferences of existing players but also promote inclusivity and fairness, ensuring a more enjoyable experience for everyone regardless of their chosen platform. Why can pc users use controllers but we can’t use mouse and keyboard? How long is BHVR going to dodge this question, so many people would love to use m&k. Just add it please for the sake of your player base

Been asked for many many times over the years. Last word was they have no plans to add it.

The reasons given were it would take way too long, require way too much resources, and require a UI update as well to implement it.

There is an adapter available for the PlayStations for like $240 USD, but sadly it doesn't work for the Xbox's.

I would just hide prestige and items personally, and maybe display the killers name (and profile + ping) for survivors.

There's no reason to hide which survivors are being used because they're just skins, and there are valid reasons for dodging specific players, considering there's no effective block feature to prevent matching with someone you don't want to.

Showing profiles doesn't do much for us on console.

I just want to see it tested out for a few days or so, see the impact on match parity.

I wonder if the notion of blocking people could be brought up once again if there weren't lobbies....

Oh for sure, you cant use SWFs as an excuse... but... comms does definitely play a role and mess with some killers more than others, and it's pretty destructive to any killer relying on surprise elements.

A strong team of Solos is not helpless by any means, but they ARE less coordinated than the same players in a SWF, and you ignore that at your own risk.

When you're playing someone like Pig where chase is bad and takes a while, where you rely on stealth to close the gap before the chase begins... someone calling where you are going/are after a hook totally kills your stealth approach... I've really noticed the difference when playing SoloQ (players load in to lobby 1 at a time) vs. SWF (all at once).

Now you can get builds to deal with this, I'm actually planning to get the Knight next so I can get his perk Nowhere to Hide to deal with survivors pre-emptively ditching gens as I arrive and hiding round corners, combined with Enduring so I can be greedy on pallets and commit without much penalty, however the point is vs. a SWF, you MUST respect snd factor in their greater coordination, or you're gonna get rolled.

Ofc, if you're playing the big chase killers, comms is less of a factor. If you're able to find and down within 30 seconds, great, but if you're taking 45 seconds, a minute or more, vs. Solos the natural uncoordinated solo gameplay is not necessarily a huge problem... but vs. A SWF, that is death.

The when survs load into a lobby thing is not too reliable I've noticed. Back when the killer hosted the lobby before dedicated servers that usually was the case. Now it's more about ping and distances from the servers.

The only thing I've consistently seen is us consolers definitely take longer to load into the match. Those on PC take several steps before my camera stops spinning around, and my friends also noticed the same thing.

  • @GannTM said:

This makes me grateful I P100’d a killer instead. But yes, not sure why it’s so hard for BHVR to just hide prestiges in the pre match lobby.

This. It would help stabilize MMR greatly.

I'd also like them to test out having no lobbies at all, everyone just sees the offerings & then directly loads into the match. It would give their MMR system its best chance to do it's thing, and eliminate that last second swapping bs survs can do as well.

Me too, especially because of the piss poor optimization gimping consoles even more than most PC's, and the lack of M&K support coming ever. But think it through.

First off the entire point of CrossPlay was to unite the playerbase, not split it.

Secondly the vast majority of the playerbase is on the consoles, so those on PC would see their queue times get out of hand fast.

And third, with lots of practice most of the killers can be run well enough to defeat similarly skilled players, when MMR works. As others have said, you really need to put in the work.

And just pretend Trickster doesn't exist. 🤪

If they'd be lobby dodged I think that speaks volumes and shows something needs to be done. And this is coming from a survivor main.

I don't disagree, but I do not see them implementing anything that will harm queue times as much as this suggestion would. They absolutely need to look into why killers will go out of their way to avoid the most deadly of coordinated teams, rare as those are.

This game's new player experience is already rough af. We shouldn't make it even worse by feeding them to much more experienced players just because we want to dodge all the blasted time.

There has to be a better way.

  • I too wish the PTB came to us consolers, but I see why it's insanely difficult to do so.

@ReikoMori summarized most of the roadblocks to expanding it nicely. If they wanted to they could push out hotfixes 14 times in a day to Steam, but no way would that be practical through the consoles. It can take a week or so for Microsoft and Sony and Nintendo to all separately approve an update, and yes it is not free either. That's why they pack so much into large updates every few weeks or so. It's also why for instance Trickster's chapter was delayed for an additional week as one of the update certifications wasn't in yet.

I may be irked the devs root everything they do through Steam (like only having Fog Whisperer representation from Steam as well, despite console being the vastly larger playerbase) but I do understand why.

Both Minecraft and DayZ offer separate "experimental" games on my Xbox though, so there may be a way. Dunno if it's cost-effective for the devs to use that approach though.

  • @Shroompy said:

    cool story bro

    Not a helpful comment.

I play my Piggy best I can with a controller on my Xbox, but I know I'm limited somewhat simply by the platform I play DBD on.

It's not all doom and gloom as the OP suggests, but the disparity when playing killer is startling. There's no way to play Nurse or even Blight anywhere near full potential on console, the rest are more difficult to git gud with, plus Trickster is absolutely just unplayable.

I really don't know how our dear Switch cousins do it.

  • Which is? Killer capitalizing on such an opportunity? Or survs blocking to stop a tunnel?

  • Survs trading health states is one of the most effective forms of teamwork in this game. It's also sadly often needed to interrupt a hard tunnel.

Smart timely blocking will usually benefit the team overall, whether it's allowing a reset to the team or slowing momentum. But the reverse is true as well. Unwise blocking should lead to the snowballing that can bring everything to a screeching halt.

  • Perhaps it should. But i'm considering the effects on the whole community, not just me.

I firmly believe the horror stories posted here and elsewhere about the veteran killer stomping rookie survs, or the brand new killer being rolled by a very good team, are both a result of the blasted dodging and resultant backfilling.

One of the recent surveys asked the community whether they'd prefer faster queues or quality matchmaking, and overwhelming chose queue times.

Sadly we are actively doing it to ourselves, knowing it'll happen. And for what? Easier games? "Fairer" games?

  • @albertoplus said:

The fact that "those people will get always dodged" it's a myth. Would there be some dodges? Of course, but people says that "swf would never play a game" and that's a blatant lie. Like 1% of the community would dodge swf and the queue times would not change much. There are tons of people who just wouldn't care.

Keep in mind that tons of people already know that a LOT of their games are against swf (2, 3 or 4 players), and those people keep playing the game. If they would dodge SWF they would just not play the game at all knowing that, but they keep playing.

Hell, on other games you already know who is playing with friends (even using external sites) and the games are still running smoothly.

We've had too many players on this very forum say they shop around seven, eight, even ten lobbies each time they queue up to pick their opponents.

The most common defense of this they give is "SWF is completely unfair" so they use their own methods to sniff out teams and shop around. Dodging even once wreaks the MMR badly, leading to the backfilling nightmares complained about so much.

This change would only increase the already very destructive dodging.

  • @Göch said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3485078#Comment_3485078

You can't even pick a high prestige surv without 5 killers dodging the lobby. I think the killer should get way less information and definitely not more, being able to go through the steam profiles of your opponents before the match is already ridiculous.

I'm on Xbox so looking at any profiles is out already.

I'd like to see them test no lobbies at all, just load directly into the trial. It would cut way down on the dodging, giving their MMR system its best chance to do it's thing. And it would prevent that last second swapping bs survs can do too.

  • @GannTM said:

A lot of y’all don’t know that you can still play against people that you’ve blocked.

This. The blocking feature just blocks communication, and has no effect on matchmaking.

  • It's not the offerings themselves to blame. It's the map design and any unbalances on them, real or imagined.

That's where the real work needs to be done.
