How can we seriously trash the devs when we all know their MMR system isn't even being given a good chance to function properly, with all the lobby dodging and backfilling going on?
We are absolutely doing it to ourselves.
-
Skip any lobby at all. Just load directly into the match.
Solves all of these concerns plus kills off that last-second swapping bs survs can do too.

Hi, I just wanted to suggest allowing survivors to either keep their blood points (or at least a predetermined amount of blood points) when a killer DCs. It's stinks when they DC at the end of a long match once you've accumulated a lot of bloodpoints and you end up with nothing but wasted time. ☹️
If the endgame screen shows the killer DC'd with no points, and you also got no points, I'm willing to bet it showed you had DC'd as well.

I don't want killers to go easy, my issue is getting placed for the benefit of swf groups. It's also not a matter of fairness since what you stated is disregarding an individual's desire for fun just to benefit a groups access to faster matchmaking.
Not every solo would opt out, just like crossplay is an option not everyone takes. If the change proves that dramatic then maybe the devs could review what makes swf so unappealing.
Do you know how their CrossPlay system works? No one uses it for a reason.
-
Wouldn't this crush the queue times for three-man groups? And seriously lengthen the queues for two-mans as well?
Both groups pull from solos to fill, and two-mans by far make up the majority of groupings. Something like half of all survs are in some form of a SWF.
-
If all survs are down with no way to pick themselves up, after a certain time (say 90 seconds) the Entity kills them, much like the EGC timer running out.

I was wondering because its the same account and I want to play DBD in my laptop when im not at my house
There currently is no Cross Progression between Xbox and any PC for DBD. The devs know it's wanted by the community, but they haven't been able to strike a deal with Microsoft (or Sony) to make it happen sadly. And a deal with Nintendo for the Switch was due out last September but fell through.
The Game Pass has nothing to do with it.
-
@tea said:
Sorry, context? What happened to your Switch progress?
I'm assuming they went from the Switch to a PC, and without Cross Progression that means they have to start DBD all over again from scratch.
Something I'll never do personally.

Lobby shopping is breaking the matchmaking and is entirely selfish.

I don't care about queue times.
But I don't see why anyone should face sweating and slugging nurses at 5 gens THREE TIMES in a row...unless your goal is for people to alt f4.
Also fix your map repeat prevention. Make it realm-wide, not just map.
What if the MMR is working in your case? And it matches your skill level with an appropriate killer?
A while back they tested stricter MMR. It resulted in nothing but sweat matches along with longer queues. Apparently those most efficient at the game constantly going against each other isn't too fun.

Well apparently there isn't a single employee at BHVR that can play their own game at the highest level on both sides, so how could we possibly expect them to balance either of those experiences in the best ways possible.. News flash.. We can't..

That's a bit harsh.
It's widely accepted the vast majority of the playerbase isn't in that "high" MMR area, what I call the efficient or "sweats" level. Nor is it balanced with that level foremost in mind.

I've wondered lately if the intent of perks such as this is to destroy muscle memory.
After many many hours skilled killers and survs learn the timing and distances of the gane, assuming a reasonably stable ping. Do I make it to this pallet? To this window before the surv can vault? Is that a medium vault from here or fast? Are they close enough to DH them?
Maybe they're seeking to have players all moving at different speeds? Sprint Burst and Lithe already temporarily disrupt timings, and Made For This certainly does, especially paired with a couple of other perks.
Also the threat of a surv running MFT is becoming a factor, just as old Decisive Strike did. Causes hesitation (again effecting speeds) and can change decision making while in chase.
-
Personally I think it's fine, for all the reasons most have given here.
I would like to see the stats on it being run vs. actually activating, perhaps broken down by MMR too. That would be a better guide to me as to it's effectiveness, whether it's a perk problem or an efficient team problem, or much more likely not a major problem.

-
Nope nope nope. Any killer ban system would be open to way too much abuse.
Popular and/or strong killers like Blight and Wesker would have their queue times soar, and players in general for many killers would also see long waits. This would also reduce the available killers in the pool, ruining the matchmaking all around.

DBD Mobile has a full another team working on it. They could have copy/paste Core and call it a day.
The mobile version was indeed by an entirely different team. They coded the game from scratch, which is why it has so many other options than the base game.

Many of the complaints we see could be from people being backfilled into lobbies they have no business being in as well. We can never tell whether we're a backfill or not. It's part of why I think the zero transparency style SBMM causes more headaches than the devs think.
People might actually face SWFs that are too difficult for them on a regular basis. And it could be because they're often backfilling into those lobbies that other killers dodged. The survivors I 12 hook at 3-5 gens probably feel just as frustrated as the killer players who complain about unbeatable SWFs. Backfills screw everything up.
I mentioned earlier, the 4 man I play in regularly gets dodged. We don't hide our hours and collectively have over 20k. The first 5 or 6 killers will usually dodge the lobby. We end up with a killer who doesn't get a single hook all game half the time and has 200 hours. Usually 1k tops. And they probably complain about SWF when they shouldn't have been playing against us in the first place. I feel bad, but the first 5 killers didn't take the match.
I've brought up that point many times as well.
Newbie killers should never get rolled by a veteran team, SWF or not, just like rookie survs getting stomped by a highly skilled killer shouldn't happen either. All because of dodging.
And during one of the recent surveys they asked the community whether they favor queues over quality matchmaking, and the overwhelming response was faster queue times. So this system only gets one real shot at a fair-ish trial, and backfilling breaks it.

Assuming you have already brought forth this long-time concern from the community to the other development teams while ago, and that you have also already gave them your suggestion of locking lobbies, why has it not been tested yet to see if it helps? It would seem like it would be one of the top priorities to help new players to stay.
I'd also love to see it tested. Like the time they tested out no bloodlust.

I’m see what you’re saying. I tend to find people vastly over exaggerate the mythical high mmr thing. In the sense that it’s not some .01% of the population only being effected. I would say even the top 20% is heavily effected by swf. I do think though that even low to average swf groups are getting a significant unfair advantage though and I believe their stats a while back showed a significant survival increase from swf even at those lower levels.
In the games current state I think locked lobbies would cause more problems than backfilling does. Assuming zero changes of course.
Instead of forcing lobbies they should work to fix the reason people dodge in the first place. Yes some reasons are silly or they just want an advantage, but I don’t believe that is the majority of the cases although some will disagree with this I understand. I believe the majority of dodges are people simply wanting a fair game and there are many unbalanced things in the game currently that prevent a fair game.
And to make it even worse, no one can even agree on what "fair" is. Too subjective. And balancing any asymmetrical game is a nightmare to begin with.
On a side note, locking or removing the lobby would also get rid of that last second swapping bs survs can do. I'm willing to bet no killer would miss that. 😁

@Blueberry said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3511186#Comment_3511186
Could we have some middle ground solutions for swf then if we were going to lock lobbies? There are of course multiple reasons people dodge but one of the main ones is swf and the majority of the community dodges because they feel it isn’t currently balanced for it and is an unfair advantage. Just bringing this up because I think a lot of players would feel upset over this change since it would feel like it’s forcing them into unfair matches.
I have no doubt many players will not like the idea of locking the lobbies or doing away with them altogether. Mostly veteran players I'd think.
There are legit reasons to want to ditch a lobby, and some bad reasons too, in both roles. But I firmly believe taking one of those two options will over time even out the matchmaking, so long as we have the current backfilling system in place.
As for balance and SWF that's another big ol pile of difficulties.
I've heard the notion floating around here and elsewhere that many of the posted complaints are "first-world high MMR problems" that do not really effect the average playerbase much. The devs themselves seem to agree, with what little stats we do get & their responses to us proding those stats.
The problem as I see it is the balance issues mainly crop up and are most strongly felt by those in that mythical high MMR area (not counting people just regurgitating content creators) where the efficient or "sweat" play is. Luckily I'm a lousy killer & ok-ish surv and aren't often swimming around in that area myself.

I cannot believe, that in this day and age, that BHVR can't have a separate beta launcher in steam. Not having this seriously inconveniences people because when they want to play current content after downloading the beta, they need to sit through a 31gig download.
This is the first time I've downloaded the PTB (in my 2100 hours in the game) because I was seriously excited about Xenomorph. A friend came on and I want to play current content with him, now I need to sit here for half an hour. I had no idea this was a thing until now, because it's insanely unoptimized..
As an example, DayZ has a separate launcher on steam for beta/experimental stuff, so they don't need to download the ENTIRE GAME AGAIN.
Xbox has the same experimental "games" for both DayZ and Minecraft.
Maybe if the devs make use of something similar us consolers can participate in PTB's as well.

Im gonna be honest, i think it's fine the way it is.
If you really want to make it more anonymous and Hide basically any Info about the Survivors for the Killer, then i at least want something to show me who is in a Team together.
I've been able to dodge some Bullets and therefore terrible Matches for Myself by simply checking Steam Profiles.
I don't want to go against a 4 Man SWF Sweat Squad when i just want to play a Meme Build on Demo.
An SWF can have so much Info right at the Start while a Killer has to gain that Info themselves over the course of the Game. At least let me have the chance to not play against People i know will clearly Bully me.
But I don't think that would be a good idea aswell. Just keep it like it is now. If you don't want the Killer to Lobby Dodge you, then simply go into Anonymous Mode.
Xbox cannot use the Anonymous Mode at all

I'd rather wait and be with competent survivors than wait 2 seconds (and even now it takes a while to find a game) and be with incompetent survivors.
Me as well. But during one of the more r cent surveys they asked the community whether they preferred faster queues over quality matchmaking, and we overwhelming chose faster queues.
And as mentioned they tested a couple of variations of stricter MMR a while back. It resulted in unpleasant matches when the sweats only got the sweats, and longer queues on top of that.
We kinda did it to ourselves, just like all the lobby shopping & dodging wreaking the matchmaking as well.

Not much to this.
I don't think the game can be played at an average casual level anymore. I don't think you can really come home from a long day at work and play a couple of games on either role without the game being more trouble than it's worth.
Whether it's problematic Killer designs that are unfun to play against (Legion and Twins), overtuned characters (Blight and Nurse), Skull Merchant or even just the Killer being outright better than you, the casual Survivor experience is bad.
Whether it's teams that force you to play tactically and try hard, people who abuse certain bugs, people who just like to be frustrating (Boil Over) or just plain good teams; the causal Killer experience isn't much better.
I think that should change for both roles. I don't think you should need to sink 6 hours into a play session whilst being hyper-aware and uber competitive in order to have a chance to have fun.
I used to SWF with some awesome folks a few years ago, one of which whenever we got a Plague would spend the entire match chasing me around just to puke on me.
This player was a decent looper, knew what tf gens were, had good game sense, and possessed the uncanny ability to hide in plain sight & somehow get away with it. A definite plus to the overall team. Unless we faced a Plague.
Miss those days. 😕

How about this: each game developer gets to make up their own dictionary for their games, using whatever they deem appropriate. Not us players, they do.
So the devs get to say what is by their definition cheating and what is not.

My personal biggest issue with hooks spawns is how basement can completely screw you over as killer. No nearby hokks due to basement but realistically you cannot get the survivor in there. A good example of this is when it spawns in main building on eyrie. Hooks are usually alright otherwise though.
But I will say for us console killers you don't always get to choose which hook you go for. The wiggle effects feel harder for us to counter so I can't always risk walking to the hook I'd like to just in case I get stuck on a doorway or random piece of scenery.
To that I'd argue us console killers are much more affected by Boil Over sways. Those will limit which hook is chosen, if you can even make it to a hook in some tight spots.
-
I look at the hooks being destroyed on sacrifice similar to survs three-genning themselves.
Hooks are a resource to be managed too.

Cheating: act dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage, especially in a game or examination.
The game is not balanced around SWF, so it is in fact an unfair advantage.
You can keep repeating how they allow SWF but that is irrelevant. Whether or not something is allowed is not part of the definition.
So when a dev comes by here and once again says THEY do not consider comms cheating, would that be enough for ya? It is only their definition that really matters for their game.

Anything that increases win odds by using external software could be considered "cheating" .
Even if devs have given comms a "special treatment" by removing it from the "no external software" rule, it is absolutely an advantage against the killer that the survivors were not supposed to have. Advantage that the game was not built to support. If DBD had Voice Chat , than yes it would not be cheating in the slightest.
Were killers balanced against comms ? No, because there are no comms in the game.
As stated above : the majority of trials are made up of solo queue (56%), duos make up approximately 40%.
Which means that swf teams of four with chat on are a very small minority. One that gives devs reason not to balance against. One that uses software to up their chances. So no reason for killers not to be balanced against that.
The basekit that can be given the killers with a special condition :
If survivor team consists of a pre-made group of 4 friends , the killer will see an aura of a random survivor every 40s for 2s.
Since survivors broadcast everything to each other , the killer can be given a bit of that info too. No arguments against something like this.
"Anything that increases win odds by using external software could be considered "cheating" ."
You mean like filters?
