Actually interesting enough we can also look at this from a scientific perspective.
There is actually evidence that shows that people respond to fiction characters similar to real people. It's call the parasocial contact hypothesis.
It's an interesting phenomenon in which if people form parasocial relationships with fiction characters and those fiction characters happens to be a lgbt or any other minority then it decrease prejudice and hate similar to having a diverse group of friends.
Your brain understands that it's a stranger but it also can't distinguish between empathy for a queer person and a queer character. This is one of the reasons why diverse representation is important.
sure, like i stated before, i have absolutely nothing against representation whatsoever and is something i WANT in games.
And in Story driven games i myself gain connections and emotional attachments to characters.
But in DBD where the characters themselves dont actually matter but to pay homage to a franchise or to bring in new perks to the game and progression?
So yes while representation is important, representation should be relevant to what its being represented in.
Personally this feels kind of insulting to shoe horn in a gay character to make gay/lgbt people happy, like gay people are supposed to want to play david because of his irrelevant sexual orientation?
It comes off as pandering when no one who plays dbd should be thinking about sexual orientation or to what their character is playing as, you could just as well leave it a void and you can pretend its whatever orientation you want if that is somehow important to you trying not to die in a game about murder.
Representation matters in games such as mass effect.
in mass effect you can romance charcters. if you could only romance opposite gender characters THAT is a lack of representation. Romancing isnt integral to the game but is relevant to the gameplay, you can engage with it and in such a format its important to have that representation in.
I don't want to be pandered to because a company wants to score some social justice points. (which is how this feels) i want to simply be represented equally in situations where such representation is relevant and is part of the experience.

On the off chance you're actually curious here's a uni thesis that's good to read on the topic
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/293467/why-representation-in-media-matters
im not gonna read a thesis. I dont mind representation at all, im on the lgbt spectrum. Its a good thing to see.
But, there is no reason to shoehorn stuff for the sake of diversity into places where it doesnt belong.
the sexual orientation of characters in deadbydaylight has zero impact on gameplay, story or anything actually relevant to the game and i am at a loss as why someone would care about what a avatar that doesnt have sex, engage in relationships or anything else of that nature matters.
Look at the update to sims 4 coming where they are adding more sexual orientation options and already had the pronoun option.
thast a game where representation matters, where people dont feel left out because its relevant to the game.
Same with any other game that has relationships or things of that nature built into the game. in these cases its relevant and actually can matter.
In dead by daylight what exactly does this accomplish in something where sexuality is utterly irrelevant to the game other than saying, "now there is a line of text that states this character reskin likes to have sex with other men"
And this is supposed to make lgbt people happy?

no.....no it wasnt. It had a FOV for activation.

i really dont understand why sexual orientation matters at all in a murder video game or why anyone cares what gender some character wants to bang when sex has absolutely no part in this game.
-
baiting out, was still wasting 5 plus seconds you could have been productive and werent, while the survivor running is thus being productive because you arent being productive yourself and their team mates are. Baiting out, is still wasting time which pre patch you sure had very little of.

Those extra seconds on top of all the slowdowns and killer buffs Is for sure the culprit not to mention all the built In killer buffs and survivor nerfs the devs messed up with this patch survivor q Is Instant no one wants to play survivor
um....some regression perks that werent used much got buffed and they most popular and powerful regression perks got heavily nerfed to where they arent very appealing now.
One of the more arguably best perks is overcharge which only has an effect if the survivor doesn't immediately tap the gen after triggering it.
and yea, kill rates for killers were lower than what they wanted so they made changes. If kill rates go too high they will adjust accordingly.

The pick rate for Dead Hard is less than the "mortality rate" of my solo queue teammates after the update. This mean either Dead Hard carried a lot of survivors or killer has been way overbuffed. Both are probably true but weighted more toward the latter.
DH definitely carried. Think about it. Dh changes the way you play. an Overwhelming amount of people ran dh and always dh. they no longer have that gameplay style changing carry perk. they dont know how to handle it.
On games with survivors who know how to play, chases are just as hard. but there are now lots of survivors who i am certain were running dh due to the weird way they are doing chases now and how bad they are at doing them.
I just dont think people want to admit this. Now im sure there are some changes to be made on other aspects as well and will be over time, especially on such a big update but this community is so incredibly whiny and salty over EVERYTHING when it comes down to it, i think many people dont want to admit that when a press E to negate a mistake gets removed, their actual skill comes to surface.

Or...gens aren't getting done because the devs made gens take longer? And also buffed quite a few regression perks. Shockingly enough, Dead Hard had pretty much nothing to do with gen speed.
hm, when it was common that in the first chase 2-3 gens would get done and now survivors have no idea how to play the game now apparently cant get any done with a simple 10 second addition to gens?
Somehow i dont think 10 seconds is the culprit here on whether half the gens are done by the time the first chase ends or starts here.

What is many times and how many are solo and how many are SWF? How many times have you survived as solo? I've survived six out of 15 trials. Of the 45 survivors I've been teamed with, eight have survived. I've survived 40% of trials, my teammates survive 13% of the time, 23% total. That's easy mode, sorry.
what was the pickrate on dh again? and how many of those survivors no longer had Dh? says it all.

The biggest problem by far playing Solo Q was the sheer level of camping/tunneling Killers. Camping can decimate a Solo Q match simply due to the lack of info.
So Devs have now nerfed anti-tunneling perks like DS into ashes. A perk I personally relied om, not for cheeky escapes, or trolling, but truly to get away from being tunneled.
Now Killers are tunneling MORE. Gen speeds are at a crawl, and you get more bang for your buck when camping a survivor at 5 gens. Idk what the "Meta" is going to be (tho Killers seem to have their already, or at leats close to it). I'm quite certain SWF will do just fine tho!. As usual.
killer camps someone on hook. takes 2 mins to bleed out from stage 1. 3 survivors get on 3 gens. 3 gens get done before that guy dies. you have just hurt the killer for doing so.
when a killer is camping and survivors keep trying to save, you are rewarding the killer for doing so. there are perks that make it easy to tell from a distance if a killer is camping.
Dont reward an easily counterable playstyle if you dislike it.
the games I get where there is an actual camper, if the team keeps trying to save, we lose, if they do gens we win. Its literally that simple.
and perhaps you really are encountering all this camping, but i play plenty of survivors and actual campers or actual tunnelers are MAYBE 10% of games.
and I know for a fact people call camping or tunneling rather frequently on situations that are not either.

if you cant handle 10 seconds on a gen, especially with multiple regression perks being nerfed....get better?

if you can't 4k after these buffs in any playstyle then you can't be helped man. the game as killer is mind numbingly easy now...

My main problem is the inherent slow-downs in Killer's kits adding to the chaos.
Pig's traps are basically just a time waste, but combined with increased gen times, it actually takes a long time to get everything done.
Same with Mending. What was a normal "slow down" mechanic for the game seems slightly overkill.
Small tweaks could change this.
I love pig but stopped playing her for a long time because i felt i was guarenteed to lose with her each game. I picked her up again a few days ago and she feels good. her slowdown feels like an actual slowdown, where before a trap would always seem to come off within 30 seconds after it was put on.
im not sure if the extra 10 seconds is really that big of a deal. ive never had much of an issue with mending but tbh, for whatever reason in the entirety of my time playing DBD ive had mend applied on me like MAYBE 5 times. so i might just not have enough experience with it to see what its impact is in a negative way.

I never used DH Im a Q&Q Head on person, but I disagree DH Is still good take an extra hit get a speed boost chases just aren't happening killers are just using slowdowns and hard camping tunneling the first two survivors out In my games at least
im not saying DH is bad now, i think they got it to a good spot. My point is, the results here are the same for me and i am not a slowdown heavy killer, either run none at all because im obsessed with like 5 different perks or run 1 slowdown perk.
I am still getting these games and noticing alot of people doing much poorer jobs at doing chases, while far less DH is being used.
I believe personally, these games are occurring at least in part because survivors' have had DH as their perk for years and dont know how to play the game without it and basically are noobs.

Literally no one cares about dead hard, killer mains are still obsessed with it though.
People have a problem with most of everything else specially these ridiculous gen times and solo q being garbage,
....its 10 seconds and toolboxes are cheap. its 50 seconds total extra. the alternative is 2-3 gens getting done in 1 chase. come on now.
-
gens arent getting done because survs dont know how to play without DH. I dont run slowdown usually on killers and when i do its normally something basic like jolt. Im winning many games at 4 gens left to go because survs have no idea how to do chases without DH to save them.
-
one thing i think is happening is that ALOT of survivors have no idea how to play the game without dead hard and are making really stupid choices in chases.
Im not running slowdown or anything other than my same kinda builds based around palet smashing or plaything, or jolt as my go to slow down perk and ive had many games end with 4 gens left to go.
I really believe that people complaining about survivor becoming much harder, are people who relied on dead hard to win games. As survivor ive never used dead hard but for 1 game and my games arent any harder.

Plaything
Its stable. All the others are dead most of the time (Ruin, Undying, Devour, Blood etc.].
Plaything / Pentimento is my favourite combo
i think plaything works as a soft counter to boons as you can kill 4 totems with plaything, have one hex with it like pentimento and boons cease to be a problem. tho i have noticed far far less boon usage. less DH as well which is odd since patch hasnt launched yet

@gatsby said:
I don’t think generator speeds will increase, but I do think more Survivors will be inclined to bring gen perks, toolboxes and be more “gen rushy” to counteract the extra 50 seconds of gen progress needed each match.
Flashlights will probably become less common and more Survivors will die on hook because no one will leave their gen.
so what your saying is....killers have a chance

mine looks like that. does that mean i have the teachables? If so i can assure you i never bought the tinkerer or lightborn teachables. I was scouring each bloodweb for it

Yes. The Orange teachables should show up at 30, 35, and 40. Also AFAIK they *never* go away even if you ignore them for a level or two.
Have you tried leveling another killer to see if Lightborn shows up in their blood web?
Also, even if you are leveling Hillbilly, you do not have to actually play him. I can't play him at all and have barely played him, but I threw BP from other killers at him to get all his perks.
i have not, ive just been focusing on him so can get his teachable to finish up the perk list i want to use for a build on trapper and a few other killers for pallet crushing. but neither tinker or lightborn ever popped up. enduring did at 30 and that was it.
-
oh really, every 5 levels? its not been like that on ANY killer. and i have6 or 7 ay level 50. never have prestiged any of them.

-
@dugman said:

I don’t know the answer to your question because I don’t know why your teachable wouldn’t have spawned on Hillbilly’s bloodweb at levels 30, 35 or 40.
enduring did which was one of the ones i wanted, but im well past level 50, if it was still counting levels, i would be 65-70 levels on him and no other teachables have spawned
-
@dugman said:
Well the good news is if you wait about a week or two the new midchapter patch will be out and then all you have to do it get Hillbilly to level 50 and prestige him once and all three of his perks will be on all your other killers automatically.

I mean, we didn't ask for the DS and IW nerf, I think the majority actually wanted DS buffed, like used for both hook stages
so it can secure a 100% pick rate? i think thats what the devs are trying to avoid.
surv misplays should be punished. not always protected.

Hit the unhooker, beeline for the unhooked.
You wouldn't even have to wait for the unhooked survivor to touch the ground, DS activates the moment they start coming off the hook. They could have it deactivated the instant they get it, because the killer hit the only person who could be injured at that moment. It wouldn't be hard at all to force.
I don't know how I feel about this change.
caveats could be in play such as requiring min distance away or protection hits being ignored. My issue is that if its a anti tunneling perk, it activates when tunneling did not occur. Or in EGC where it ceases to be anti tunnel. I dont like the idea of it being given more uses per match either as that also imo just further rewards misplay.
I dont mind DS too much because it isnt used by everyone and unless your truly trying to tunnel you wont see it tooooo much.
I agree that the poster that stated locker abuse should be addressed with it.
a nice QoL would be nice if there was some indication of who the last person who you hooked was. Hard for me to keep track of which of the three neas I took out last when my attention is on my movement in the game and swinging.
-
Ds should be disabled if during its duration the killer hits or gets in chase with any other survivor. because then you arent tunneling.
-
SWF hurts stealth killers, and oblivious, undetectable and other such traits. also is where bully builds come in.
I dont advocate for removing SWF tho. But it DOES impact games.

And the killer gets 150K. How is that fair?
dealing with the BS survs do is reward. multiple games ive had survivors just hide for 15-20 mins. id rather go ahead and take you out and move on to the next. you could try doing the same.
-
and i think hex need to be buffed in general, not their effects but their actual staying power. majority of games your hexes get obliterated before you can even get any worthwhile use out of them if any at all.
in my opinion, make them like boons. Spend a few seconds to relight them and give a survivors a perk to permanently destroy the hex.
-
Dead Hard - (nerf) - dash distance doubled. invincibility frames removed.
You mean a buff, not a nerf. cuz in no way is that a nerf. the chance of you hitting someone Dhing with I frames is slim to none, and Double dash distance is insane and will extend chases even longer
-

Just play casually.
All that is being asked of killers is to not camp and tunnel survivors out before a gen even gets done lol. Why is that so controversial?
your team has to be pretty bad for a gen to not be finished before someone is out of the game.

All tunneling and camping is fair. They're valid strategies. They are boring and frustrating, but fair and valid all the same.
Proxy camping is still camping, regardless of definition. Tunneling is still tunneling, regardless of when it happens.
You've gone out of your way to state that tunneling is not tunneling, it's just the killer making an intelligent decision. You've gone out of your way to say that proxy camping isn't camping because you're going from A to B, then back again. Because it's just playing SMART.
You can't argue that these strategies do not exist because you want to redefine them to fit your argument. You don't have to avoid using these strategies. It's entirely up to you how you want to play.
I have no stated that tunneling is not tunneling, please re read.
i aslo showed how proxy camping is by definition not camping even if its colloquially referred to as such.
I never said such strategies did not exist but defined them into a more accurate manner.
as i went into great deal with above, it is important when communicating to be accurate with communication. Since "tunneling" has multiple different forms and presumably the gripe with tunneling isnt with EVERY form of tunneling, but with a particular type of tunneling then its important to use SPECIFIC terms to denote what exactly you are talking about.
When someone says tunneling is bad, do they mean ALL forms of tunneling and if they mean a specific kind of it then we need to have a term that denotes that.
but as it stands people just throw terms around willy nilly instead of attempting to be more accurate with what they say.

It's not that strong. My biggest issue is it doesn't work with blocked gens, which means Deadlock won't work with it, and Deadlock is being swept under the rug hardcore when it's far superior to other gen slowdown. Even Dead Man's Switch which it's usually combo'd with won't let Pain Resonance put the regression on the correct gen if it's already blocking it, so getting really quick downs with the combo actually hurts you more than helps you sometimes. And 12 seconds of regression? That's nothing, especially if 2 people are on the gen. The truth is you can't always drop chase to go stop the gen. You have to commit to downs at some point. And assuming you do go to push people off the gen, what's to stop someone else from coming to finish the gen after you've pushed the first person off?
You guys are absolutely cherry picking the best possible scenarios for Pain Resonance and acting like that's happening every single match. That Ruin is up at the same time and hasn't been cleansed, that you also have Pop equipped and are able to kick the nearly finished gen before it's done every time, that Dead Man's isn't already blocking the gen that needs to get Pain Resonanced, that it's still just as worth it to have to personally go and push people off gens to get value from Dead Man's Switch as it is for people to scream and get the gen blocked.
This gen regression meta is meta for the mid-level at best. You will cease to get notable value from gen regression perks at a certain MMR. The survivors will either not go down quick enough and that causes the gens to be done, or they will go down a lot and the gens get done regardless. And the info from Pain Resonance isn't anything impressive either, for the same reason BBQ isn't impressive, because against efficient teams it doesn't matter if you know where everyone is. You have 1 target only in chase, and your goal is to down them as quick as you can, and the info from perks like Pain Resonance and BBQ do nothing for you in that. Running info perks or gen regression perks and having them matter is a luxury you will only find at the mid-level.
good thing the Mid level is where the majority of people presumably are yes?

Okay. Let's go point by point.
I'm saying that Bubba is widely played, and frequently facecamps to the extent that he's frequently memed for it. Your experience is not the wider experience here.
You can't say 'you aren't being camped' when people are being camped.
You can say 'I'm not being camped'.
But that's not what you said.
Yes, that's what tunneling is. There's no special pleading for 'it was late game'. If I camp someone out at EOGC, I'm still camping them out. Now, again, you could say 'well, it's fine to camp and tunnel if it's necessary', but again - that's not what you said. Just because you are starving, doesn't mean you aren't eating the puppy.
No, again - see - you're the one being hostile here. Why are you trying to put words in my mouth? Yes, all definitions are common usage. I don't see your point here.
No, you never said that. You said 'you aren't being tunneled', then you said 'well, I define tunneling as something that can only happen, by definition, under specific conditions'.
sigh
i never said he wasnt widely played or you or anyone else didnt face a bunch of camping bubbas. So im going to ignore that as once again you bring nonsense into this discussion.
If you are allergic to pine trees, do you tell people you are allergic to Trees? or do you tell them you are allergic to pine trees?
Pine trees are Trees but when you are referencing a SPECIFIC type of tree you use a more precise term. This is fundamental to language.
In the case of DBD, you and I both know that not all types of tunneling is bad, but all tunneling is grouped under one label and tunneling is overwhelming viewed negatively when it should only be one particular type.
Therefore, because when we communicate you want to be clear what you are communicating we need
- tunneling to SPECIFICALLY refer to the early game forcing someone out OR we need to use a DIFFERENT term to refer to the Ok types of tunneling instead of using one single term for multiple different things. EGC "tunneling IS different that early game "tunneling".
- proxy camping isnt just called camping is it? its called proxy camping because its different from face camping. and my argument was by definition it is not camping, assuming you actually leave the hook irregardless of whether you return to the hook later.
If you are going to continue to shoehorn irrelevant things into your replies in an attempt to discredit my statements or whatever your trying to do, please dont bother replying.
