I don't understand why it's so hard to add server side checks for cases where not even high ping can cause someone to teleport from one side of the map to the other, or move at speeds not even possible to achieve in game, or instantly heal someone. This would curb the blatant cheaters considerably, leaving the subtle ones which sadly are harder to detect.
yeah, I don’t get it either. I can’t believe that it’s not technically possible to have the game be able to automatically detect when a player is doing something that should not be possible in the game. This should be able to catch even subtle cheating. For example, survivor is running at a higher than their base speed and doesn’t have any perks that would allow them to do this. Game should be able to detect stuff like that.
-
I agree. The non-functional matchmaking is by far the biggest problem with the game. Should be #1 priority for the game health updates.

I'm just hoping future game dev teams can take BHVR's blunder of offering unlimited free epic accounts as an example of what not to do. The faster the industry realizes that offering free unlimited accounts will cause a mass infestation, the better.
The free account problem could be easily solved if BHVR and/or Epic would simply deactivate any unused account from that free giveaway.

Some people are just terrible human beings. It’s as simple as that. There’s no point in trying to understand it.

I'm less familiar with statistics and probability, but i threw this into Chat GPT and it explained the actual probability formulas and came out to about the same results.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/1J2C1NV5VNTT/image.png
So, if we define:
- Loss as 0-1 kills (approximately 17.92% chance),
- Draw as exactly 2 kills (approximately 34.56% chance), and
- Win as 3-4 kills (approximately 47.52% chance),
the win rate is about 47.5%, which is just under 50%.
In summary, using a 60% kill rate under these conditions results in roughly a 47.5% win rate, not exactly 50%.
super helpful - thanks!

60/40 kill rate to escape rate doesn't make it "killer sided" 60/40 balances the game around a 50% win rate due to how the math for it works.
do you have a link to any good forum posts that discuss this? I’ve never looked into it in detail

Ok, so askip we can't talk about things on this topic, but i'm not gonna let you stop me from speaking. You just banned two of people who supported my opinion about my thinking of this game being more and more killer sided for a supposed discussion that not had to be. All of the discussion can be, with respect. You created forum, and let us create new discussion so we can talk with other people, but you can't banned people for beeing supporter of a thinking, because it's not forbidden. So let me tel you one thing. You can ban me, i don't care about what you're going to do for me. I just want to say that yes, you have a preference. Yes, you are actually killer sided and all of your updates from years ago boost and buff killers after killers, and survivors get their perk nerfed, perk after perk. You are creating a significant equity difference that lead to both side toxicity growing. Do what you want with my words, or continue you're killer in the path of killer's growing strength, and create more and more unblance.
Your reaction to my supporters clearly shows on which side you are.
Your friends probably got banned for breaking forum rules. It’s really nothing more than that.
Also, the game is supposed to be killer sided 60/40. If you don’t like it then there are plenty of other games out there to play. Go ahead and try playing killer yourself for a while. Once you start facing good survivors consistently, even if they are solo queue, you’ll find it’s not as easy as you think it is.

Am going to bump this, seriously remove it, its just being used maliciously. How long is this so called test to be?
This has played out exactly as expected. Anything that even remotely defends the killer player point of view gets a disproportionate amount of downvotes because a large portion of the player base never plays killer. I really have no idea what the point of this downvote test is other than tell us things we already know about the demographics of the player base.
-
Why is the this specific surrender scenario even needed? What killer is going to want to choose to surrender when survivors are hiding and not doing gens? This was not thought through very well at all. The other surrender scenarios are fine, but this one is incredibly stupid. Just release the “reveal survivors that are doing nothing” mechanic along with the other surrender options that actually make sense at the same time.

Nobody here is arguing that. We've acknowledged that SWF are stronger than killers, but that wasn't the point. The point is being ignored because for some reason you don't want to admit that this behavior is heavily detrimental and boring to solo queue players. Last time I checked, solo queue accounted for over half of survivor teams, which means that statistically speaking the people complaining are more likely to be people who play solo. That's why this whole "yeah but SWF" argument is a strawman.
how am I supposed to know if a team is solo queue or SWF? If I get into a match and I can tell the survivors are good and know what they’re doing, I’m going to use these tactics if needed. I won’t use them if the survivors are bad and I don’t need to use them.
The goal of all the complaints is to try to nerf these legitimate strategies which is only going to make it more difficult for killer players to compete in matches against skilled survivors. You can’t nerf these only for matches where they are not needed. -

Killer main here. I agree slugging is boring, but I also feel like it's kind of a necessary evil sometimes, especially when dealing with SWFs. Plenty of people make entire team loadouts designed around denying hooks. Stuff like Decisive Strike, Background Player, Breakout, sabo builds, flashlights. There are a LOT of ways to deny killers hooks, and killers don't have nearly as many options to block the survivor equivalent of generators with the gen kick nerf (Granted, I'm not advocating for Chess Merchant meta either).
I feel like it depends pretty heavily on the context of the match. If the survivors are tryharding, there's nothing wrong with the killer tryharding as well. If it's obviously a match with a bunch of solo queue players and a killer bleeds all four out, yeah they're a dick.
I’m sure the people downvoting this can send us some clips of their killer gameplay to show us all how they can easily beat good coordinated teams without ever camping, tunneling or slugging
-
I sure hope this isn’t the final change to deal with situations where survivors are hiding and not doing anything to advance the game. Hopefully there will be a reveal mechanic when survivors don’t work on objectives for a certain period of time so that the survivors rather than the killer are being punished in this situation.
-
95% of the people complaining have never played killer before and don’t understand that there are situations where these tactics are the right play for the killer. They don’t understand that once you get to a level where you are consistently playing against good survivors who know what they are doing that it’s very difficult to secure kills without ever camping, tunneling or slugging.

Is dropping someone ten meters away from the hatch or the exit gate with the intention of moriing them before they make it to the exit the same as or worse than survivors tea-bagging at the exit gate? As a survivor, I know you're going to mori me, so why waste my time?
yes. A killer will only do this is they are intentionally being a d***. However, if the survivor was BM-ing them in the match, it’s justifiable retaliation.

best news of the day today

I had a lot of fun with 2v8 after bots were removed. I’m sad to see it go.
I’m kind of worried for the killer side with the allusions to “anti-camp, anti-slug, anti-tunnel”. I understand the desire to de-incentivize these strategies, but doing that without providing killers with other tools to help put pressure on survivors is just going to make fewer people want to play killer. We’ve seen what happened in the past when kill rates got too low. Survivor queue times became unbearably long during peak evening hours (at least they did where I live in eastern US time zone).
-
I had a lot of fun playing as survivor (and a couple matches as killer too) after the devs finally listened to feedback and removed the bots. I really wish they would have done that from the beginning and hopefully they will listen to the community sooner next time.
I didn’t see too many bugs, but I did definitely noticed that cages were often not moving when killers were close by. I also had one match where a Wraith downed a Sable and her body was stuck on his legs for the rest of the match. He just dragged her around while afk crows circled her because she clearly wasn’t able to move LOL -
most of my 2v8 matches have been survivor wins but I was in one where both of the killers were extremely good and they were definitely coordinating on comms. I thought maybe I would finally see an 8k with zero gens done, but due to the comeback mechanic somebody finished a gen when most survivors were already dead. I think everyone basically just gave up after the first few minutes in that one and started waiting for hatches to spawn

Is he? Just because he is a known streamer doesn't mean he is like the best. There could be hundreds of killers as good as him or better that nobody knows. I feel like that is a disingenuous attempt to justify the OPness of killer. I feel like you would have a different opinion if some random survivor streamer could just own every game and escape every time they wanted to. The truth of the matter is that survivor streamers rarely escape. There is no contest to see who can be a good survivor because the game is that far stacked against survivors. As soon as they see a cracked Blight or any other killer then they just lose.
look at the escape rates. Even at high MMR solo queue, which should be the most stacked against survivor according to you, survivors are escaping 40% of the time, which is exactly the escape rate that the devs are targeting for this game. Sorry, you are just flat out wrong and the stats prove it

Yes, killer will always win. You can play perfectly as survivor but still lose if the killer is good.
Basically the best killer player in the world always wins, therefore all other killer players also always win. Got it

People underestimate how much you have to pay attention to things as a killer.
Same for the survivor side, I think that's why it's so divisive in general on the forums.
Killer -- you have to ensure that you close down a chase fast, monitor your gens (you're practically babysitting them), be aware of your surroundings for those pesky flashlights/flashbangs (if you're not using Lightborne), and a plethora amount of other things.
I find myself getting more frustrated when I play killer than I do survivor, hence why I prefer playing survivor. You can relax and not deal with some things as there is general downtime for you unless you're experiencing a snowball or something generally out of your control.
When you play killer, you can easily get tilted for how people are playing but I mean, both sides can get tilted I'm just speaking on killer. I got more annoyed playing as Wraith and dealing with survivors on Eeyrie of Crows than I do playing survivor on Midwich but that's just my opinion. 🤷🏾♀️
playing as survivor is way less stressful than playing as killer. As long as I have competent teammates, I definitely prefer the survivor role. The major problem with survivor side is of course solo queue where you get none of the communication benefits that SWF enjoy and the matchmaking system doesn’t work so you will often get paired with brand new survivors even if you have thousands of hours in the game and know what you are doing.
-
disagree with all of these except No Mither. The benefits of all those perks far outweigh any minor downsides that they have. No Mither definitely helps killer more than survivor. Same with any boon perk or invocation because of how much time people waste activating those perks (which have very marginal benefits) instead of working on gens or rescuing/healing teammates.

That’s funny - against good survivor teams I actually struggle quite a bit. Maybe I’m just a trash killer player. Why don’t you show us some of your killer gameplay so we can learn how it’s done so easily?

Wreckers is by far the most survivor sided map currently. There's a reason almost every match I have as killer, the survivors are bringing azarov offering and quite often DC if they don't get that particular realm.
RPD and The Game are my strongest maps as killer, I regularly get 3/4k, rare I get 2k and dont remember anyoccasion I got less than 2k on those maps.
that’s very surprising to me based on my own experience and what I’ve seen in the community. Almost everyone (including myself) seems to rate Autohaven as one of the more balanced realms overall. Badham or Eyrie always seem to be mentioned as the most survivor-sided maps.
-
I played 4 matches last night and escaped all 4. There was one match with zero kills, two with one kill, and one with 3 kills. I haven’t been keeping track, but I would say my escape rate has easily been over 50% since the event started. There are so many buffs for survivors in this mode and maps are filled with good loops and safe pallets.
I definitely understand what you are seeing with bad teammates though - I’ve had some matches like that too. Players hiding in the corner, nobody doing gens, running away from gens at the slightest sound of a heartbeat even though you can see other people are being chased, players lasting 5 seconds in chase, etc.I play on PC and try to find lobbies with mostly other PC players. I’ve found that the quality of teammates tends to be higher with PC players.
-
some of the 2v8 servers have super high pings for all the players. I wonder if that’s causing your stuttering issues. I’ve seen that happen plenty of times.

I doubt there will be a point where survivors and killers are satisfied. No matter what there always is "tunneling is toxic" "slugging is toxic" "genrushing is toxic" everything is bad for both sides. Constant war of who gets what and who will get more changes. "Game is killer sided" "Game is survivor sided" and so on until one side gets a change and then the other side will cry and it doesnt stop. There is just nothing that would make both sides happy, this is an eternal war of sides fighting.
the game is balanced exactly the way the devs want - 60/40 in favor of killer. And I’m totally fine with that (I play both sides about equally). It should be hard to escape. The only thing that breaks this targeted balance is coordinated SWF teams.
There would be almost no complaining about this balance if everyone played both sides. Nearly all the balance complaints are coming from people who only play one role. -
I almost never see people not getting saved in time. What I see far more often is four people rushing to save the same person, two people then healing the rescued survivor while the other two hang around trying to figure out why they can’t help heal them, and nobody doing gens.
-
it’s never going to happen. BHVR has decided to prioritize making the game available to as many people as possible by letting anyone in the world play on any server they want through VPN rather than ensure an enjoyable and fair experience for all players. As long as people aren’t leaving the game because of this issue (they aren’t, for the most part), then BHVR will stick with this strategy
-
I started playing after bots were removed and have been having fun for the most part. I see 2v8 still suffers from the problem of putting brand new players who have no clue what they’re doing in with other players who have thousands of hours. I guess that’s really no different from normal 1v4 mode, though.

Yep and a fact that will be of no surprise to most people here, they are almost exclusively Epic accounts as the free on Epic promotion still comes back to haunt years later. I have an Epic DBD account too but I never play on it and certainly don't cheat!
But bots signed up for tens of thousands or more free accounts and they are still being sold with cheats to this day from what I can tell.
can’t BHVR and/or Epic simply deactivate all the unused accounts from that promotion? It seems like an incredibly easy solution to this problem. If BHVR and/or Epic aren’t willing to do this, then the blame for this hacker situation rests on them because of their refusal to take appropriate steps to prevent it from happening.
-
I think the simple answer is that it’s not a big enough problem for BHVR to invest a ton of resources in. For me personally, I have not seen an obvious cheater in a very long time. Unless people start leaving the game in large numbers (which is not happening), from a business perspective there’s no reason for BHVR to invest a bunch of resources into a problem that is not widespread.

If I don't want to play in a lobby with fools, cheaters, or tunnelers, then I should be allowed to go next and leave the bot. End the penalties
so you will DC if you consider the other players in your match to be “fools” or “tunnelers”? If so, it’s players like you that necessitate the penalty system. It’s to prevent players like you from regularly ruining other people’s games.
-
I’m with the other skeptics here. I find this very hard to believe. What region are you in? I play US eastern time zone and I haven’t seen an obvious cheater in a very long time. Definitely some suspicious possible subtle cheaters from time to time, but nothing obvious.
-
What specific changes are killer players worried about? We don’t even know what changes are coming yet. Anyone who is threatening to quit is doing so with zero information and simply looking for attention.

Survivor matchmaking (who you get paired with as survivor) felt a lot better under the old system. With the current system, I will escape multiple matches in a row and still get paired with people who have less than 100 hours in the game on a regular basis (and it’s not due to lobby backfills). Matchmaking continues to be by far the biggest problem in this game and I hope they do something different with the upcoming QoL changes.

yeah, it’s comically bad. I’m guessing that with the horrendous optimization in this game that the old, good fog that actually looked like fog was blowing up people’s consoles/PCs and this is the best that the current game can handle (sadly)

it's funny how half the people on the forums are claiming these changes will be survivor sided and the other half are saying it'll be killer sided. just shows that many of you actually have no clue what you're talking about, and are once again blowing things out of proportion before anything is actually implemented.
personally I'm just gonna wait and see what happens. either what they're planning works out and people like the update, or it doesn't work out and they have to do something different. at least they're trying, at least they're somewhat listening, and even if that's the bare minimum, it's still a good thing and they should be given a chance to improve things. immediately tweaking over what you're assuming is going to happen is likely to just discourage them from making any major changes out of fear of backlash.
you guys are comically dramatic and it's impossible to take these kind of posts seriously. please stop with the victim mentality guys...this goes for both killer and survivor mains. bhvr is not aiming to cater to one side or the other, they're making changes to hopefully make the game more enjoyable for the playerbase as a whole. to me, this update actually seems pretty balanced in terms of how many changes each side is getting.
like c'mon, do y'all actually think that they're prioritizing one side over the other in a game where they need people to play both sides? you really believe this video game company, with one title they can truly call a major success, is catering to one side over the other? really guys? if you seriously believe that, then you're so entrenched in the stupid tribalism of this community that you've actually lost touch with reality.
i absolutely understand not having any faith in bhvr to implement these changes in a balanced, or even fully functional way, but at least give them a chance before freaking out like this. y'all want the game to change and improve, yet when presented with change you shoot it down and immediately start with this "aghhhh dbd is being destroyed aaahh dbd is dying the devs are garbage!!! the sky is falling!!!! the end times are upon us!!!!!" bullshit. mfs do this every time there's some sort of change to dbd, for once just sit back and observe. they're not just gonna drop these changes out of the blue, there will be testing and a ptb. if it truly ends up being that bad…then we can resume the doomposting.
This just goes to show how many people only play one role and not the other

...Can you give killers a break? Every little detail and idiosyncrasy killers have is scrutinized, blown out of proportion, and made out to be a bad thing. Like you're doing here, thinking of the worst possible scenario these changes could lead to. Any killer can Lethal and wipe out any team at the start, as long as the team is that bad. Aura isn't free kills; just because the killer sees you doesn't mean he gets you. And is that rage quit justification, too? You're really not helping your cause.
We've done the "survivor buffs first" approach for years, and it isn't working. I mean it is, for survivors, but they're completely ungrateful. Literal free BT + Haste off hook, and they boil it down to "doing nothing." That kind of ingratitude. What we've basically seen is an attempt to make the uncarryable solos beat good killer players, through these changes and through forced mismatches, which doesn't do a thing except make the game more broken in the favor of survivors who know what they're doing, especially SWF/bully squads. It's killers who've been told, "Yeah, they're getting all this stuff, but we'll balance it out eventually." We're still waiting. Maybe with this "killer sided" set of changes, well see something, anything.
I told BHVR good job because they're actually doing something this time, they're actually trying. They've got a plan, a vision. But as part of it, you're getting MORE anti-slug, anti-tunnel, anti-camp, anti-"go next," etc. What's to complain about, just off of speculation? That's what you're mad about, nihilistic speculation, no meaty details, for a role that's had it all since the game launched. Like I alluded to, that doesn't mean an absence of problems. The matchmaking is super messed up and people DC all the time in solo. But that doesn't equate to killers being "OP."
The people who create these kinds of posts have never played killer before. All these posts would go away if people actually bothered to play both sides.
