was just about to do a post about this until I found this post already up. Just went against a huntress with 108 ping and I was 50-60 ping, I was confused why she kept throwing hatchets 2 feet behind me until I was running her on a jungle gym and she hit me when I was check spotting around the corner (none of my body was sticking out) and I checked ping and she was 110. It’s so irritating that killer’s get an advantage when it comes to ping in this game, I would go as far to say the game should just validate everything through the survivor’s screen since their inputs are much more important than the killer’s. For example if I can clearly see my feet touch the ground and start to run after vaulting a window or pallet the game should NOT prioritize the killer’s hit on me. Same with dropping a pallet, the stun and getting hit should not happen at the same time, it should prioritize the stun first as long as the survivor started the pallet drop animation.

Why are the survivor’s inputs much more important than the killers? Both sides have to do things that require precise timing. With your solution, the Huntress will throw the hatchet at a survivor, have it appear to be an hit, and then have no hit register. That’s not fair either.

When someone has a high ping, the timings get thrown off and we have to decide which side gets the “benefit of the doubt” when action timings are not aligned. The only solution is to minimize the timing lag on both sides, which means enforcing ping limits in lobbies.

Just throwing this out there as well - I’ve had many instances of hitting survivors at pallets, game shows blood splatter and survivor screams( making me think I got a hit), and then no hit registers and I get stunned instead. It’s not just survivors that are suffering from the high ping problem.

Miserable and unfair for (HIGH PING) killers. Yeah, it would be a bit miserable probably, but people would get used to it or get on an ethernet connection.

It makes no sense to say this and just be okay with survivor players (who have actual good connections by the way) having to play in a "miserable and unfair" way.

I don't care which side (killer or survivor) you play on. High ping should not be an advantage. Good ping shouldn't be an advantage either. it should be the NORM for fair gameplay.

I swear in no game other than DBD do people actively fight in favor of letting high ping players get an upper hand. Any other PvP based game you will be told to upgrade your internet and get off the WiFi. It's crazy to me.

So with your proposed solution, wouldn’t high ping survivors have an unfair advantage? If that was true, now it would be survivors abusing high ping and VPN instead of killers. Also, now you’re telling people “get a better internet connection” when above you said that you don’t want to exclude anyone from being able to play. What if the killer has a great internet connection but no local server? Your solution would punish them, but above you said you didn’t want to punish people for not having a local server to play on.

Also, who is “actively fighting in favor of letting high ping player get an upper hand?” I’m pretty sure everyone here agrees that high ping killers are a problem and I haven’t seen anyone argue otherwise.

Your arguments are confusing and inconsistent.

My solution is that if you are a killer player with high ping, you should have to play the way survivors with good ping play against a killer with high ping right now.

This means, the killer with high ping can still technically play the game, it wouldn't be UNPLAYABLE. BUT it would mean they'd have to get used to the fact they will probably get stunned at pallets when going for hits unless they are right on the survivor's butt for example before taking the M1. Because right now, survivor players have to basically pre-drop pallets against high ping killers or risk getting slapped through the pallet. It should be on the killer with high ping to play in a weird way, and players with good ping can just play normally. Never allow high ping to be advantage. This would mean they'd need to change hit validation to not favor high ping killers basically.

So then we’re just making the game miserable and unfair for killers instead of survivors. We still have a problem, but you just passed it along to someone else.

  • @ralecgos said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3897496#Comment_3897496

It wouldn't solve the problem. It would cause many players to ACTUALLY physically be unable to play the game. I'm not asking for these people to outright be unable to play the game. I'm asking that their outright advantage be stripped from them for simply having a bad connection. The delta between good and bad ping players needs to be closer. That is the point.

What solution do you propose then? I don’t think it’s even technically possible to somehow make hits smooth and accurate on both sides when there is a high ping. Don’t you think if there was a technically possible way to resolve this that it would have been done by now?

The only way to make this work is to ensure everyone has a good ping.

  • The game is slightly killer-sided by design. I play both killer and survivor and I’m completely fine with that. The only people complaining about this are people who don’t play killer and want EZ escapes. You can easily identity them by looking at the downvotes for my comment.

  • @Prometheus1092 said:

I truly hope they increase the penalty for DC, out of 13 survivor matches 10 of them someone has DC'd. Most at the start of the match although a couple had someone DC just before killer hooked them for the 3rd time at the end of the match.

It's been a variety of killers and maps and yet still people DC almost every time. Killers were not tunneling, slugging or camping so can't even justify it with that. A few matches resulted in 2 or 3 escapes with one of the survivors escaping being a bot. People just DC at the smallest things. Harsher penalty for DC should be implemented to prevent these people ruining other people's matches. I understand people don't want to be in a match they don't find fun but seriously, when people DC regardless of the map or killer then I think they should just accept they don't find survivor role fun.

the people who downvoted this were probably the ones who DC’d in your matches

Because you came in here and brought up ping limits, which I said nothing about. I heard this topic talked about somewhere before, maybe a twitch streamer or a twitter post, so I knew instantly you’re a person in the know. You tried bending the topic to something else.

The system is way too easy to intentionally take advantage of to gain an artificial advantage in games -plain-and-simple. I know for a fact doctoring up your ping is way more common than people want to admit. It’s no coincidence that it just so happens that every 100+ ping player is on Huntress in higher MMR lobbies. These people know what they’re doing. Framing everyone with an innocent “they just live far away :(“ narrative is exactly the tactic used by players who don’t want their cute little fun advantage taken away.

Fix the servers, and fix the high ping advantage hit validation. I don’t care how. It makes the quality of many games unenjoyable. It also just generally just makes the game feel CHEAPLY made. Not a good look at all.

I’m so confused about why you’re mad that I’m talking about ping limits. That would literally solve the problem that you’re complaining about.

  • BHVR needs to completely overhaul the way that “skill” is measured in the game. Here is how insane the current system is: Player A DC’s or “goes next” immediately in every single match. Player B is a great teammate, loops killers like a pro, takes protection hits, rescues and heals people, etc, but somehow they never manage to escape for whatever reason. BHVR’s skill-measuring system says that these players are equally skilled.

I think BHVR has done a very good job with the game and continuing to improve it over these past 10 years, but the fact that they haven’t figured out a way to better measure player skill and incorporate that into matchmaking is by far their biggest failure.

  • @UknownShredder said:

Its not crappy connection its server distance, Are you going t to punish players because the game doesnt have enough players to host a server in every country? Who do you think you are ?

Either way - bad connection or distance from server- the problem is the same. Players with local servers and good pings are being punished with unfair matches because BHVR allows players from thousands of miles away to also play on these servers. So keep in mind that you’re ok with the local players being punished with unfair matches with high ping players. I’d much rather ensure a quality experience for the players with local servers and am totally fine with not allowing high ping players on those servers.

I never said anything about enforcing ping limits on players. That's something you concocted in your own head. I said punish people with bad connections and not people with good connections. If the killer clearly misses a shot on a player with good connection, then the hit validation should screw the killer player over, not the people playing the game correctly.

why are you arguing with me and others who agree with you that this is a problem? The fact that BHVR doesn’t enforce ping limits is the reason why you frequently see these high-ping killers in your games. Don’t post threads if you’re just going to lash out at everyone who comments

  • @Jarred2504 said:

Because the devs constantly keep adding ridiculously strong perks to new survivors or buffing perks that are already annoying enough as is. First time in awhile the game was enjoyable with Flashbangs removed. Or nerfing killers to catter to survivors dying so easily, as of right now some killers are having their terror radius INCREASED in the planned upcoming updates, so great more survivor assistance. I already think pallet stunning should just make killers "drop" a survivor instead of letting them escape and run.

All the perks that grant endurance for example is flat out ridiculous and that in itself needs to start being looked at, some of long overdue for nerfs.

what specific survivor perks are “ridiculously strong” and need to be nerfed?

  • @jedimaster505 said:

it should be no secret by now that BHVR has been handholding killer mains since update 6.1.

Very on-brand for you to come here and throw in a trolling “us vs them” remark that has nothing to do with the thread topic

  • The community has asked for this thousands of times and BHVR continues to ignore the issue. They won’t enforce ping limits because then fewer people would be able to play, which means less revenue. They are prioritizing $ over player experience and so far it has worked for them because plenty of people are still playing the game. At this point it’s just a waste of time to keep asking BHVR to do something about it, because they won’t.

It is very cute of you to assume I do not have equal hours in both. It is very cute of you to assume I do not face good survivors.

I bet you don't face good survivors consistently because MMR in this game is trash so come back to us when you face good survivors 100% of your games and still win with your cringe playstyle because that crap don't work against the top tier high MMR full stack SWFs you clearly always go against.

I do understand the perspective from both sides. I just understand ITS A VIDEO GAME and people who queue up to play it should be able to play it which is clearly something you do not understand.

And to clarify, yes I was talking about the extreme cases. The situations where the killer drops chase to go after the person unhooked whom they are not even close to. The situations where they are 4 man slugging with more than a gen left. Situational, I understand. But that is not what I encounter. And then you add in clinically stupid survivors who unhook directly in front of a camping killer who has already shown they will tunnel off hook. DO A DAMNED GEN.

Ok - show us how to play killer in a way that survivors find enjoyable. Don’t complain about other people using these tactics unless you’re going to show us all how to play without ever using them. Looking forward to learning how it’s done.

Now please tell me how your comment is helpful, insightful or anything other than a troll?

No - people who actually play both sides and understand the perspective of both sides don’t start threads like this. There would be no “us vs them” if everyone played both “us” and “them” sides

I have been playing killer. Interestingly enough I find it too easy which is why I prefer survivor, the mode that doesn't play itself. But, no I do not camp, I do not tunnel, I do not slug, I do not give half a rat's tail about the finisher mori so there is no point in slugging for it. Maybe that's because I do not sweat and do not feel the need to cry when I do not get the 4k. Which I guess is the real difference here, I do not care about winning. I WANT TO PLAY THE GAME I PAYED TO PLAY.

Keep playing for a little while. Once you win enough and start facing good survivors consistently, please come back and show us how things go without ever camping/tunneling/slugging. If you’re going to reply back with “well I don’t care if I win”, well ok, that’s you. Some killer players do want to win and they have every right to do whatever they can within the rules of the game to win. Asking other players to change the way they want to play because you don’t like it comes off as very self-centered.

Why is it always this extreme which is used? The problem is not slugging, tunneling, camping, 3-genning or whatever. The problem is the amount which will be used.

Nobody aside from the most entitled Survivor Mains has a problem with getting slugged for pressure. Or being tunneled when the Killer needs to secure a Kill. Or when you get camped because other Survivors are nearby and provide free map pressure. Or going for a 3-Gen when the Survivors mess up.

The problem is extensive slugging up to the point of never picking someone up. Tunneling and camping with 5 Gens to go. 3-Genning from the start without ever having the intention of leaving said 3-Gen.

Same goes for Slowdown-Perks - nobody really has a problem with using 1 or 2 Slowdown-Perks, the problem comes when 4 Slowdown-Perks are stacked - since that much slowdown is not even needed.

And the result is that things get nerfed because people just overdo it. We have seen this with Slowdown-Perks, which got the individual Perks nerfed, since it is the easier solution for BHVR. They could either make them not stackable or nerf the power of the individual Perks and they went with the second one. Sucks for those who only use one or two Slowdowns, but the main reason is because people used 4 Slowdowns.

Same with the Gen Kick Limit - there is 0 issue with holding a 3-Gen when the Survivors messed up. But there is an issue with hodling a 3-Gen from the start. And this is why the Gen Regression Limit was introduced. And people who do extensive slugging, camping and tunneling are the reason why the Devs try to fix those in Phase 2.

Saying "Oh, win without ever doing this and that" is just an extreme which is a) unreasonable and b) waters down the problems which indeed exist in the game and really hurt the Survivor experience. And I dont really know why the Forums are doing that, whenever I say that Killer is not as bad as some people paint it to be, there is sometimes one weirdo who is like "Ok, show us and win 10 games in a row with perkless Trapper".

OP was not talking about extreme cases of camping, tunneling or slugging. At least they did not frame their argument that way. This is yet another general slugging/tunneling/camping complaint without any sort of qualifier like “hey, I am talking about extreme cases where the killer is doing this just to be a jerk”. If it was, I would agree with you. But when people throw out these general complaints about tactics that are 1) very much allowed in the game and 2) sometimes if not often necessary depending on what level you play at, I am going to give the same response I always do.

  • @Iron_Cutlass said:

Youll get claims like these on both sides. It mostly just stems from tribalism since instead of taking the time to understand why things get changed, they are more upset by the idea of the other side getting something to begin with, because it isnt their role.

The easiest way to snuff that stuff is to ignore it or respond with "Us VS Them" and 95% of the time they will stop.

Nearly all the tribalism would be gone if everyone bothered to play both sides

  • why don’t you try playing killer yourself and show us all how to win consistently without ever using slugging, tunneling, camping or 3-genning in any situation. Looking forward to learning how it’s done.

  • Bots have wall hacks so they can be very difficult to catch at some loops. But they also do some very stupid things while out in the open. I feel like these things kind of balance out and I typically find bots easier to down than skilled, experienced human survivors.

"It's cost effective for everyone to suffer high ping and latency issues." - Behaviour (Interactive).

yep, this. They are totally fine with people playing with 200-300+ pings, using VPN’s, and ruining games for everyone else who is trying to have a fair match on a local server with low pings.

  • I play about 50/50 survivor (solo q) and killer. Survivor side is fun if teammates know what they are doing, but the problem is the non-functional matchmaking. I’ll escape several times in a row and then get matched with someone who has less than 100 hours in the game. Just complete random matchmaking.

On the killer side, it’s usually fun unless I’m going against a coordinated SWF who cranks out the gens in like 5 minutes or I get sent to a busted map like Eyrie or Badham. In those matches there’s usually no way to secure a kill without playing super scummy.

Overall, I guess I still enjoy the game quite a lot because I play it far more than any other game.

  • At minimum, totems should not be allowed to spawn immediately next to generators. I played a survivor match yesterday and the killer’s hex totem was just about touching a generator. It’s been a problem for years and BHVR still hasn’t fixed this.

Macmillan is one of the biggest and most popular survivor map. It has op tiles and jungle jims. It has a lot of pallets as well.

You do realize people will just go afk instead of dcing. I get punishing players who get downed first and rage quit. But you can't expect people to stay in a match they are being tunneled out of. There is literally no benefit to play the match, other than to allow other players to do gens. But me as a solo que survivor is not my problem, just like most killer mains will say its not their problem you as a survivor arent having fun being tunneled/camped/slugged. Why should I stay in a match im not allowed to do anything except watch, when I can move on to another one where I can possibly actually play the game.

THIS IS WHATS WRONG WITH THIS COMMUNITY AND GAME....

If you’re “being tunneled”, the best thing you can do for your team is stay in the game and not give up. Keep improving at looping and chases so that if the killer focuses on you, you waste more of the killer’s time. When I play killer side and try to tunnel someone out, if they are a good survivor player and make an effort to loop me around the map as much as they can, it’s very difficult to get more than 1-2 kills because the other survivors can crank out the gens with no pressure.

Players like you who think it’s ok to not try if you’re being tunneled (which by the way should statistically be only 25% of your matches, and assumes 100% of killer players use a tunneling strategy, which is not true, so it’s even less than 25% of your matches) are a big reason why the solo queue experience is so frustrating. I have plenty of fun in solo queue most of the time if my teammates actually try and don’t give up immediately.

  • @PuddleOfBludd said:

    so let’s get this straight…

if you “go next” because you’ve been tunneled, or your teammates are refusing to help you, you are punished.

BUT if you don’t like being left on the ground for the killer to go, after somebody else, you can just surrender and essentially “go next”. And the kicker is you won’t lose any blood points for it but if you do so, on the hook, you’re gonna be punished.

    hypocrites

BHVR is giving you a free pass to “go next” only in very specific situations where most people agree the match should end. You being tunneled or having bad teammates is not one of those situations. If you’re just going to DC every time you feel like you’re being tunneled or your teammates aren’t good enough, well that’s exactly why there needs to be a DC penalty.

This is one of the many reasons why the devs should slow down with the new content (except QOL updates), because they keep breaking stuff with every single patch.

This. New content gets rushed out way too frequently and there’s never enough time to ensure a good quality product. Plenty of people keep buying the content even when it doesn’t work properly, so why would BHVR do anything differently?

  • It helps if you don’t expect to win every single match. I’m not saying that you are one of these people, but there are an awful lot of complainers on this forum that seem to feel like they can’t have fun unless they’re winning 90%+ of their matches.

I honestly feel so depressed this game used to bring me joy now it's just miserable.. after being slugged so many times it gets super annoying now it's so easy to want to get your challenge then take yourself out on hook and in my opinion it's just as awful being found so quickly

Also just had a bright use lethal pursuer took away my only token (distortion) then hooked someone and immediately came directly to my locker with BBQ at 5 gens I would love it if distortion started with 2 instead of 1 it makes no sense since it can be very quickly taken away with lethal pursuer

What has specifically changed with the game to make it go from fun to miserable? I see you complain about slugging, then go on to complain about one specific match where a Blight found you using BBQ while you were (I assume) getting into a locker (honestly that one is kind of your fault). I agree that distortion got a bit overnerfed but also the game shouldn’t allow survivors to stay hidden forever.

Every killer is easy mode, the only question is "how easy?". Survivor is hard mode. I've played both sides long enough to know. Your own matches showed balanced results on average, so you're just complaining that the survivors can put up a fair amount of resistance instead of BHVR handing you a free 4K.

let’s see some of your killer gameplay so you can show us all how “easy mode” it is.

  • @jedimaster505 said:

skill issue. they just get 1 free hit the entire match IF they use it at the right time

I’ll take your “skill issue” accusation seriously if you can prove that actually play the killer side

  • I worry as well. Most of the feedback from people complaining about slugging is coming from people who have never played killer and don’t understand that there are situations where you should slug or need to slug (e.g. when you’re in a bad position to get pallet or flashlight stunned on a pickup with other survivors close by). I play survivor about half the time and I have found that “toxic” slugging - trying to slug an entire team to win - is extremely rare.

I’ll wait to see what comes out of the roadmap changes before drawing conclusions, but I’m worried that “anti-slugging” will mean nerfing slugging when it’s legitimately needed to apply pressure.

  • Flashbangs have no counter unless you bring Lightborn every single match (we always hear complaints about how you shouldn’t have to have perk slots dedicated to countering stuff from the other side) or you slug and search around for any nearby survivors (and we all know how survivor main players feel about slugging). Giving the killer more ways to counter flashbangs will reduce the necessity of unfun counterplay.

  • I primarily play solo queue survivor and have never played as Pinhead on the killer side, so the only memories I have of Pinhead are solo queue teammates dc-ing or giving up immediately when they spawn into the match and realize it’s a Pinhead.

    I will not miss him.

  • I can’t remember the last time I saw anyone claim that the survivor side is too easy and they escape a vast majority of their matches. Maybe I’m wrong and if you find any of these please point them out to me.

What I do see very often is people claiming that killer side is way too easy and they win a vast majority of their matches (or sometimes claim they win literally every single time), even though none of them ever answer the question if they actually play the killer side, much less ever post videos to prove it.

  • we just need all the people on this forum who keep telling us that the game is way too killer-sided and they get easy 4Ks every match to post some of their gameplay videos so we can all learn how to play stress-free

Is anyone else experiencing never going there?

It’s been extremely rare for me as well. I’m fine with that though - I really don’t like the map much on either killer or survivor side. Although I’ll take it 1000x over RPD or Hawkins

  • I haven’t seen a blatant cheater in a long time. I play US eastern time zone. Even suspected subtle cheaters are pretty rare.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/439880/killer-vs-killler-role

The game is not blanketly "killer sided"

The devs balance the game around a 60% kill rate, which, when factoring in hatch, amounts to around a 50% win rate for killers.

The other thing to keep in mind is that balance is at a scale. Most people would agree that at the lowest levels of play, like when you first start playing, the game is massively killer sided. I remember when i first started playing with my friends, we were lucky if we ever got a single generator done in our matches before we were all killed, and this was back in the days when real infinites existed so it should have been easy for us.

Once you move on to the "average skill level" the game starts to even out and become a bit more evenly balanced.

Then once you move onto the highest levels of skill the game shifts back over to survivor sided. There is a reason that comp for example has to heavily restrict survivors and do a ton of scoring systems and such to make the game more fair for killers for example.

Then you have SWF which also complicates it a bit, again at lower levels it probably doesn't make much of a difference, but as you climb the ranks of skill, discord suddenly becomes a massive advantage that you have over your solo queue counterparts.

If you want to know who on the forums has never played killer before, just check the downvotes for this very reasonable and balanced take on the killer vs survivor balance

I liked how you said this isn’t tunneling and then just stated the literal definition of tunneling

You're right I play both sides too and killer is extremely easy, I can 3-4K on auto pilot. For comparison, to be as good at survivor as I am with 3K hours in solo Q, I only need max 200 hours to reach that success level playing killer. In others words, killer is easy mode in the game, far easier even than SWF. The killers that think it is survivor sided are profoundly delusional.

It’s amazing how many god-level killer players we have on this forum. But it’s so weird how we have never seen any actual gameplay from all these pros

  • The biggest problem with Legion is that so many players don’t know how to counter them. I play solo queue, so it’s usually a guarantee that a couple of my teammates will mend and then fully heal every team Legion hits them, meaning they basically never touch gens. Legion are easy to deal with for players who aren’t afraid to player while injured. A vast majority of solo queue players are too afraid to play while injured.

Killers want to pretend it doesn't happen much. The people that controls BHVR doesn't want a fair game.

The same so skilled players would never win more than two or three matches in any actually fair and balanced game.

win streaks by the top killer players in the world prove nothing about game balance for the vast majority of the player base. Let’s think this through here: top killer player in the world is going to be playing against far inferior opponents most of the time because there isn’t going to be a constant stream of comp SWF teams lined up to play against them. So as top killer is going through his win streak, most of his matches are going to be like a 99% chance to win because of the huge gap in player skill between killer side and survivor side. He’s only going to encounter full teams of similarly skilled players every so often, and even in these matches he will have an advantage because the devs have already stated many times that the game is slightly killer sided by design.

None of this means anything for a vast majority of players. If you are winning too much as killer, you will progressively get matched against better and better survivor teams. I’ve experienced this myself by playing killer - it’s easy at the start and then you hit a wall where it becomes difficult to win consistently.

look at the overall win rate for killers for the entire game population. That’s what really matters for telling us something about game balance. I’m sure I’ve said this to you before, but if you are so convinced that the game is overwhelmingly killer sided, try actually playing killer yourself. Not just a few matches, but actually put some hours into it. You’ll eventually see that it’s not nearly as easy as you think it is.

It's a technical impossibility when your code is so spaghetti that changing one line here has consequences in a completely separate area that is seemingly unrelated. We've seen it time and time again.

If only you knew how bad things really are…

yeah that’s a good point. Trying to put auto cheat detection in the existing game code would probably break a thousand other unrelated things

  • this is called tunneling and it’s not bannable. Reporting it is only going to make your future reports get tossed into the trash bin
