@Mandy can we get clarification from the dev team on this?

I don't see how this can be. My killler matches pretty much always have an abandon or two at the end, yet my stats are still fine. Some of my monthly numbers are close to 90% on some killers. That shouldn't even be a possible number if half of my kills aren't counting.
I'll have to start writing them down and comparing them, I guess.
Yeah I am thinking the same thing. Basically every one of my killer matches has at least one abandon, yet I am still seeing the results show up in my stats tracker.
@ThatRyanB any chance we can get some clarification from the devs about what is and is not tracked in the player stats page?

I never said I wanted DC penalties changed for everyone. Not once did I say that. I asked WHY the specific change was made that made it so you had to stay logged into your game for their timer to run out.
I’ve been playing this game since 2020. The DC penalty timer was changed very recently with the go next prevention which made it so that if you had a timer, you now have to stay logged into the game for it to run down. It did not used to be that way. Before if you had a penalty, for let’s say an hour.. you could log out of the game and go watch tv for an hour then come back and your penalty would be gone and you could play again. That was your “cool off” period for ruining the games by DCing. Now they changed it to where in order for your penalty to run down, you must keep your game launched and sit in lobby while your timer runs down.
THATs what my complaint is about. Why is BHVR making people sit in their game lobby like a child in the corner forcing them to stare at a lobby screen for the duration of their timer? Whether you stay in game or log out, you’re still being banned from playing their game until your timer ends and that’s supposed to be the point of the penalty. This extra step of having to stay logged into feels like being petty or establishing for the sake of. Like “we don’t want you to be able to go play another game and have fun while you wait for our timer to run out. You have to sit here in your corner (corner being the game lobby) and think about what you did until your time is up.”
That’s the point I’m making. That’s silly and absolutely stupid imo. You’re not playing the game regardless of if you’re logged in or not so it just seems like an extra step to punish for no reason. Now they want to control your ability to have fun elsewhere outside of their game if they’re currently punishing you in their game? Thats weird full stop. I had a friend decide to take a break because after Dcing for like 4 matches, they obviously were not enjoying it and decided to step away. They logged off for 3 days, came back and when they logged in, their 15 minute DC penalty was still sitting there. Waiting for them to sit in the lobby for 15 minutes to wait it out.
I’m sorry for the novel but I’m trying to make it clear what my complaint is because I don’t think you’re getting it. I’m not advocating for removing or lessening the times of the DC penalty. I’m simply asking why this extra step was added that was never in the game the entire time to begin with, and only seems to be there to infantilize the games playerbase.
I’m not gonna continue to reply to your responses about my troubleshooting because it’s not relevant to my complaint. How I chose to troubleshoot is my business and I’m not complaining about the fact that I received the DC penalty. I knew it would likely happen and I accepted it.
The whole point is for the DC punishment to be painful and frustrating for the offender. If the new system is more painful and frustrating than the old system, which based on your complaints it sounds like it is, then it’s working exactly as intended.

Thank you for completely missing the point of the post, especially as I said game crashes cause dc penalties too. Have a good day!
I didn’t miss any point. I read every word of it and I stand by my reply. You’re still ruining other people’s games even if it’s unintentional. The penalty is meant to punish people who are doing it intentionally, and for those who are not doing it intentionally, to force them to fix their crashing issues before returning to play.
-
Just don’t DC and ruin other people’s games. Problem solved.

Interesting, the high MMR actually makes sense. Still less then 50%. SO even at the highest MMR 4 man SWF still slightly favors Killer?
Yes, and that’s what a lot of people, especially people who only play survivor, have a problem with. I can understand where they are coming from because everyone is going to have a different opinion on what the target kill rate should be.
Just my personal opinion, as someone who plays both sides about equally (actually a bit more as survivor) the 60% kill rate / 40% escape rate feels balanced to me. I remember when kill rates were lower before the infamous 6.1 patch and playing killer felt much worse than it does now. A lot of other killer players clearly felt the same as I remember 10-15 minute survivor queues every single time I would play in the peak evening times. Now, the survivor queue times during peak hours seems much more reasonable. I still get instant killer queues, but survivor queues are usually no more than 5 minutes. We’re never going to get broad agreement about whether the target kill rate should be 60% or something much higher or lower, but it’s a lot easier to respect differing opinions when they come from players who have the experience and perspective from both sides.

Yes, you got downvoted for posting private collection data that is used to push an agenda, rightly so.
As opposed to just using your own personal experience and the (completely unverifiable) anecdotal experiences of others you see positing on TikTok and other forums to draw broad conclusions about game balance?
Some people love to dismiss the stats because they don’t support their preferred narrative. But these same people never suggest any alternative or better way to draw conclusions about game balance other than “solo queue is not fun for me and also I saw some people on TikTok say that they don’t have fun in solo queue either”.
-
4-man SWF escape rate across all MMRs is actually lower than solo queue LOL. The only outlier here is high MMR 4-man SWF and that makes sense. Coordinated, experienced teams are very difficult to deal with and get more than 1-2 kills, especially if you’re not playing with S-tier killers.
I draw two conclusions from this: 1) solo queue is not nearly as bad as some people here make it out to be. I can speak from experience on this as well as my lifetime escape rate is 43%, and probably higher more recently as I was much worse in my early days than I am now. 2) 4-man SWF really only “breaks the game” at the high MMR range. This makes sense as coordination alone really doesn’t help teams win consistently. It’s coordination plus the ability of every survivor on the team to take killers in extended chases.

Both the average and top killrates are too high. I doubt you would find another game where even if it was one person could curb stomp for thousands of games. That indicates a very massive balance problem. No other game community or dev team would find that acceptable. That's why DBD is laughed at.
I can respect that you feel that the average kill rate is too high, but you have to keep in mind that the average killer player needs to have fun too. Making balance changes to reduce kill rates has consequences for everyone who plays killer and makes the game more frustrating for them, especially for the non S-tier killers.
I play both sides and I feel like when I play killer (I don’t play any of the top-tier killers) the difficultly is average to high for most of my games. It usually doesn’t feel too easy and a minority of my games are “curb-stomps”.
How about for you? Are you regularly dominating survivor teams in most of your games? -
@PleaseRewind said:
Sometimes I think I'm playing a different game to some people who comment on here about the state of solo q. This is just not my experience as a solo player at all. Sure, at times I have frustrations but for the most part I enjoy myself. That's why I continue to play.
Same for me.
Every game has a natural skill curve. Some players are going to be very bad and some players are going to be very good and everything in between. The players who are struggling need to realize that if BHVR buffs their side/nerfs the other side and makes the game easier for them, that has serious consequences for game balance.
For example, blanket nerfs for killers or blanket buffs to survivors to help those survivor players on the lower end of the skills curve just makes the game more difficult for killer players across all skills levels. The very good killers will still be fine, but the bad killers will just get even worse, and the average-skilled killers will now be way more frustrated with the game. So all you have done is shifted frustration from one group to another and probably increased the amount of frustration overall across the player base. We are seeing a very good example of this now with some maps getting way too many strong pallets needlessly added to themThe goal for the balance team should be to minimize frustration across the entire skills curve, and I feel like they are doing a decent (but not perfect) job of that. There are still some busted killers that need to be further nerfed and some quality of life improvements to bring solo queue a bit closer to the level of SWF.
-
What’s the point here? That anyone else who plays solo queue will have the exact same experience as you?
I play solo queue too. I enjoy it and I escape regularly. Lifetime escape rate is 43%, likely higher recently because I escaped a lot less when I was a newer player (my last 30 days I’ve escaped 23 out of 39 matches). What about the masses of other solo queue players out there? How in the average escape rate 40% if the game is “unplayable” for all of them?
I have no doubt that some survivors struggle with the game (in the matches I lose as solo queue I get some pretty terrible teammates). Every game has a skill curve with very bad players on one end and very good players on the other end. But the stats say that a large portion of solo queue players are able to escape regularly. -

You should probably think a little more critically about the stats that BHVR releases through their own data collection lol I don't really care what you claim tbh, I think you'll claim whatever paints the game in a positive light, so I don't really take it seriously. You can go on tiktok and see clips of DBD with thousands upon thousands of comments from randoms about how awful SoloQ is and how unfun the game has become; you can go to any outlet for this game and see the same thing. SoloQ is unplayable and SWF's make Killer unplayable.
If you refuse to believe the stats or that anyone could actually have fun playing solo queue, there’s no point in arguing with you. All I can do is tell you that I have fun playing solo queue and I escape regularly. You can choose to believe that or not. Obviously this is true for many other players, because if it wasn’t, 1) the average escape rate for solo queue would be way below 40% and 2) nobody would play the game.
We know that solo queue is the largest group of players in the game. How is the player count at historical highs if all these solo queue players are having such a miserable time? I believe there are a lot of people who feel the same way as you, but obviously there are also a ton of people who enjoy solo queue, have fun, and manage to escape regularly. It’s evident in the escape rate stats and the number of people playing the game.
Why do you still play the game if it’s such a miserable and “unplayable” experience? What is your escape rate, anyway? I’m curious to know how infrequently you are actually escaping to consider the game “unplayable”. -
@Roco45 said:
People are DCing because the game is atrocious for SoloQ players, that's a genuine fact and BHVR has done absolutely nothing besides making it worse and worse. Every single match of SoloQ I've tried during this event has been a complete waste of time where the Killer is camping/tunneling/slugging at 5 gens, no wonder they don't want to stick around for that slop. The main game isn't much better, with Killers doing the exact same thing since the PTB tunneling/slugging changes weren't pushed through.
You are right though, Survivors are ruining this game, it's just SWF's that are ruining it and have been since they were added into the game POST launch. If BHVR would actually rework SWF's to be fair to play against, then SoloQ could be buffed to be near identical and then Killers could be reworked. However anytime it's even suggested, people come out to cry about "how dare you suggest that I should be punished for playing with friends" when the entire game is failing because if you aren't playing with friends, the game is unplayable.
Overall you need to stop blaming other SoloQ players, it's not their fault that the MMR is non functional and BHVR does nothing but impose restrictions on SoloQ gameplay.
Solo queue isn’t unplayable. If that’s true, the how is the average escape rate 40% for solo queue? I’m a casual, very average player and I have no problem escaping regularly. So many people call solo queue “unplayable” but never bother sharing their actual escape rate stats to prove how bad it supposedly is. It’s tough to take the complaints seriously when nobody can actually show stats that they or survivors in general are escaping way less frequently than the target escape rate of 40%.

If devs would cater to the majority, the gameplay wouldnt be this bad at all.
”The majority” is people who actually play both sides. The devs should cater to those who want a balanced game, not to players who only play one side and don’t care about how negatively these kinds of changes affect the experience of the side they don’t play.

Because it requires far less effort to just spam pallets everywhere than to actually properly balance maps.

Why do Killers need compensation for basekit Kindred? It's not like it's hindering Killers in any way.
Because the goal here should be to give solo queue and killers offsetting buffs to keep them at their current 60% kill/40% escape balance while not giving any additional help to SWF. Basekit Kindred along with basekit Corrupt would accomplish that.
-
I play solo queue, so I would be totally ok with this, but I also play killer so I think it would only be fair to compensate killers with basekit Corrupt Intervention.

If this doesn't tell you that dbd forums is a survivor sided forums then idk what else can convince u.
I think it’s going to naturally be survivor-sided just because in the overall game population you need 80% of the players at any given time to be in the survivor role and only 20% in the killer role. There’s nothing inherently wrong with that - it’s just the way any asymm PvP game in going to be.
I have no problem with people who choose to only play one side or the other as long as they are 1) honest about it and 2) engage in discussions in a civil manner without resorting to antagonizing the side they don’t like with “us vs them” stuff.
It seems like there are still some people who come here with the sole purpose of stirring up “us vs them” arguments and I really wish we had some additional forum rules to put that to a stop. -

The only thing you do is sticking to your false perception that stats are everything. Ignoring every and each ergument, while just gaslighting. Common sense is that stats are not resembling the balance of the game. Devs and biased people are the minority that do different. And you have not a single resonable argument brought up for all this time to verify youre false perception.
What arguments did I ignore and what did I say that was “gaslighting”? Don’t say things unless you are able to back them up.
You haven’t made any arguments other than saying “common sense is that stats are not resembling balance of the game.” Then you offer nothing to explain how game balance should be measured. Don’t just tell people they are wrong if you’re not going to explain why they are wrong. And simply saying “it’s common sense” doesn’t count. That’s not how a logical argument works.I’m still waiting for you to explain how game balance should be measured if not by kill and escape rate stats.

I defienetly never said that solo q is miserable. The game is most survivor-sided it ever been to the point that solo survivor is an absolute powerhouse. I play since 2017 and now it's easiest to play survivor to the point where it's just boring to get free wins, if you wanna say how many things been added then:
- many exhaustion perks that you can recharge in 20s with vigil
- so many ways to heal
- UI to said what are teamates doing
- very strong maps
- pretty busted perks - conviction, dramaturgy, boons etc.
- basekit antitunnel
- removed 3 genning
- removed proxycamping and facecamping
- etc.
Even survivor main must admit, that survivor is beyond ez to play atm.
I was replying to the other commenter in your post that said solo queue is miserable. Sorry for any confusion 😉

You only dismiss the stats because they don’t fit your preferred narrative that the game is massively killer sided. The devs and pretty much anyone who has experience playing both sides of the game use kill and escape rates as the primary measure of game balance. If you would like to suggest a better way to measure game balance, then please do so. I look forward to hearing your ideas.

Its pretty bad when you have to be in a swf to stand any chance in a match with killers. Otherwise you're lucky to escape 10% of your matches.
I play solo queue, very casual and average player, and I escape over 40% of my matches. What is your escape rate? In another post above you demanded that someone else share their stats, so why don’t you also share yours?

What’s with the unprovoked attack on the OP calling them a “killer main” in a derogatory way? This is the kind of divisive and unnecessary “us vs them” stuff that makes this forum such a toxic place sometimes. Just because someone has a different experience playing survivor than you do is no reason to throw insults around. You have no idea how much OP plays survivor or killer role.

-
Ok - I’ll show you a video of perkless Trapper getting a win at 5 gens to prove that he’s way too OP 🙄
I think most agree that Krasue is busted, but using a single video doesn’t prove anything.
-
Kudos to you for actually backing up your opinion with stats. This is very refreshing given that a vast majority of “killer is too easy” or “survivor is too easy” posts come from people who refuse to provide stats to back up their claims and likely don’t even play the role they claim is too easy.
-
I don’t think it would make any difference. We have seen so many examples of busted things from the PTB get released live despite overwhelming negative feedback. Why would this change that?
-
I’m really tired of hearing apologies and “we’re going to do a better job listening” from BHVR because they have proven time and time again that they don’t really mean it. The boosting of garbage maps that everyone hates is the latest example. Nobody asked for it, everyone is complaining about it (on forums, socials, YouTube, etc) but as far as I’ve seen not a single response or explanation from the devs. In a normal week I’ll play for a few hours at least a couple evenings, but both this week and last I haven’t even booted the game up because I’m tired of playing the same horrible maps over and over again.
The very least they could do is provide an explanation for why they are doing this (e.g. they need to collect data for map improvements) and a timeline for going back to the normal, unboosted map rotation.

"Games never been killer sided." Yet at the same time killers are going on 600 game win streaks. lol What a joke. The real reality is the killers don't want to lose their easy wins and want all killers to be S tier. Sure lets buff all killers who aren't nurse, blight, krasue whatever so every match is miserable. As far as gen rushing goes do you know why most gen rush? Its because of fear. If a good huntress, blight, nurse finds you you're basically dead. Besides slugging which counters gen rushing is commonplace now. Literally almost every game I've played solo q when killers slug hard end up 4k. Hell slugging takes out most bully squads. Its that busted. Its a ######### show when you're not a swf. Slug, proxy camp the slug, wait for person to save slug that survivor repeat. Or tunnelling 1 survivor out at 5 gens: down survivor, proxycamp the hook, return to hook repeat. Maybe play solo q a bit before saying the games totally survivor sided.
I play solo queue (more than half of my total playtime) and I do fine. I won’t say the game is “survivor sided” but I also don’t think it’s as bad as you and others with similar opinions portray it to be. I am just above the 40% escape rate and that feels pretty balanced to me. And I am a very average, casual player (usually 6 hours or less per week) so I feel like pretty much anybody should be able to do the same. Even when I have miserable matches in solo queue, 95% of the time it’s because of terrible teammates, not because killers are OP or using “cheap” strategies. Solo queue is almost always a fun and competitive experience for me if I have competent teammates.
What is your escape rate as survivor, just out of curiosity? -
Because previous versions of the void were super annoying safe havens for survivors that wasted way too much killer time. Any time a survivor got injured, they would just flee to the void and the killer could either go choose to waste a bunch of time trying to chase and down them in the void or would have to just let them go, giving the survivor an opportunity to teleport and reset which also wasted killer time because now they spent that time chasing and injuring a survivor with no progress towards their goal. At least now if a survivor tries to flee to the portal after getting injured, the killer doesn’t have to waste as much time trying to down them in the portal.
-
Agree 100%. Lack of competition means no sense of urgency to implement changes or improvements. It’s why it takes sometimes years to implement promised changes or they just never happen. It’s also the reason why the player count has been so stable despite quickly eroding quality control with recent content releases.
But, you have to give a ton of credit for BHVR for making this such a successful game for so long. They’ve found the magic formula to make a successful and long-lasting asym horror game when nobody else could. Despite its faults, it’s still my favorite game to play. -
A few things here:
- Where is the evidence that the game is “hemorrhaging players?” Player count on Steam is still historically high even after the very typical drop in players following the recent chapter release.
- Fully agree that there needs to be some rebalancing of killer strength across the roster. Blight is fine IMO - I’ve never really had a problem with him. Nurse feels very bad to go against with skilled Nurse players, but I rarely run into a skilled Nurse player. Kaneki and Krasue are definitely still busted and need further nerfs. Then there are the killers at the bottom like Trapper and Myers (somehow worse after recent rework) that need some love to make them worth playing.
- Agree with others who added that the existence of good SWF teams is also a big problem for game balance. BHVR’s continued refusal to implement some sort of handicap for these teams based on things like their MMR scores, escape rate, etc means that killer players are going to continue using the sweatiest killers, builds and playstyles to combat really good, coordinated SWF teams. I’m only willing to get behind these types of balance changes if we’re going to address the overpowered aspects of both killer and survivor roles.
-
Where/what time do you all typically play? I play maybe a few times a week, a few hours at a time usually from 8-11PM. US eastern time zone. I haven’t seen an obvious cheater in a very long time, so I am always surprised to see these types of posts. Maybe the problem is much worse in other regions and/or at different times of the day.

Why not? I didn't realize this was comp mode and not an optional fun seasonal event mode where survivors spend more time kicking pumpkins than doing gens.
If we're looking to balance seasonal mechanics how about we make fog crystals heal instead of that useless cloud since killers get an attack with theirs?
The void is a guaranteed down unless you hit someone immediately next to a portal. It's not just not a safe haven, it's a death trap.
Why not? Because it was super unfun and a huge waste of time for killers chasing survivors through the void in past events. Don’t pretend that all survivor teams treat this as a casual, fun mode.
You forgot to mention that fog crystals auto-repair gens which seems awfully strong to me. I’ve had several times already where playing as survivor I was able to finish off gens by putting a crystal on them and running off to distract killer or save a teammate. -

That's right, survivors have a big disadvantage in the voi…lol there is like 4 pallets in the void, all in the corners; i mean as survivor, the void is mostly more punishing than it is beneficial.
I wasn’t trying to make a point that the current version of the void is super safe. I know it’s not -that’s the whole point. In previous events, it was much stronger and an easy way for survivors to safely hide or waste a ton of killer time to find and chase them through portal loops. The current version helps ensure that it’s not the safe haven for survivors that it was in previous events.

Because it shouldn’t be a safe haven to take killers on minutes-long wild goose chases between portals like it has been in past events?

I haven’t noticed anything especially killer sided about it. Why do you think this?
I’m sure I’ll get downvoted by the usual folks with no explanation for why they disagree 🙄 -

Just be friendly or dissapear with instadown killer they will look for you and they will find you, which gives you few hooks per game better than nothing and if you feel bad at loosing i think this even has no mmr because Im getting survivors that are way bellow my level but hard to say if its luck or no mmr or bhvr moment.
Yeah I was thinking something similar. I might just play as Trapper, hang out and be friendly in the void, and try to get people to step in my traps and then hook them once or twice and then let them go.

Im a killer main myself, I know killer is hard, but this is just stupid to do… it makes matches completely unplayable. Especially like the one I just had against a 400 ping Ghostface. Their Steam profile says they are from the same area as me, yet I was playing on 30 ping myself… So obviously there is malicious intent here, as in VPN.
Other than that, I alrdy see a constant stream of 100 ping killers. I know you don't have a bad connection in this modern age… so just stop VPN'ing pls. Thanks.
BHVR could easily do something about this by enforcing ping limits, but they refuse to because they prioritize player count (and thus revenue) over player experience. So, I blame BHVR, not the people who are using VPNs.

No offense but policing the "us vs them" is just as counter-productive.
I’m not “policing” anything. That’s the mods’ job. I’m simply pointing out the irony of someone complaining about toxic behavior in the game while at the same time devoting most of their comments on the forum to making broad, insulting generalizations about the side they don’t like.

Most killers during events just want to see the world burn. And BHVR just let them go crazy as they want.
Your non-stop “us vs them” posts aren’t helping the situation either
