I have played this game since 2017 on and off. That's not to comment about my skill, just that I have seen the game change a lot. In early DBD which strove to create a wacky fun experience for all players I supported killer addons, old flashlights, medkits and everything else. But eventually the direction changed to one of balance.
This game is the most balanced it has ever been. So why are killer addons still viable? I mean they seriously nerfed toolboxes, medkits and keys. Sure that's all fine, but why can I throw on addon that boosts my killer power? Even small changes have big impact. Look at made for this with it's 3% increase. So you can't argue that even small boosts in killer power don't have a huge impact. The more power addons are like versing completely different killers. If a killer needs the addon, then why not make it basekit and remove the all addons. There is no reason most killers need a power boost.
At the minimum killers should not get normal blood points. Cut it by half at least to show hey you won, but not really. If you are going to say well remove survivor items as well. Might as well most of them have been nerfed into inconsequence.
if the game is “the most balanced it’s ever been”, why would you be proposing any changes? That doesn’t make any sense

100% agree. Adding bots was a giant middle finger to the community. I was looking forward to 2v8 (playing both roles) but I will not be participating this time.

BHVR, please have mercy and don't do this.
don’t bother asking them to change their minds. The response to this has been overwhelmingly negative but they’re going to do it anyway. This is the way that BHVR have handled all major changes in the past.
-
well, looks like this is confirmed by BHVR. I am 100% out. This is a terrible idea and many, many others on the forum have expressed this opinion as well. We are ruining the survivor experience to give killers a little bit shorter queues. It’s very sad because I had a lot of fun playing 2v8 (both killer and survivor) during previous events.
Honestly I don’t know why anyone bothers to provide feedback on anything. BHVR have shown time and time and time again that they are going to do what they want regardless of how the community responds. You know what would result in even shorter queue times for killers? Having all 8 survivor players be bots. Why don’t we just do that? -

If silent hill could render fog on the ps2, anything from 2016 should be able to as well.
yeah but this is DbD optimization we’re talking about here…
-
is this a reliable source to confirm that bots will be in 2v8 mode. I’ll wait for confirmation before posting my angry comments :)
-
I think the fog rendering caused people’s systems to explode
-
Yes, it would be very helpful for the devs to comment on this. If they keep staying silent on it, all we can assume is that the incentives are broken and the programmers don’t know how to fix them.

They will never do that, because a heatlhy chapter will not bring the cash for them. They dont care about FNAF players, they will have already purchased DBD when they discover these problems
I was going to say something similar. They won’t do it because they can’t delay the revenue that new chapters will bring in.
This strategy of ignoring bugs and other potential game improvements and keeping the game in a just-playable-enough state has worked to keep the player count stable and keep the game alive for almost 9 years. If I was BHVR, I wouldn’t do things differently either. Clearly it’s working for them.

Survivor gameplay needs to drastically change from Generators, Pallets, Vaults, flashlights, toolboxes, medkits everything needs to change it's been 10 years and gameplay has been the same stale old thing.
Devs gain some courage and make more changes
what incentive is there for BHVR to make significant changes? That would take a ton of resources and wouldn’t bring in additional revenue the way that new chapters and skins do. As long as the player count remains stable, they’re going to stay on the same course of cranking out new content and putting less priority on fixing bugs and adding new mechanics to the game.
-
I play killer about 50% of the time and the difficulty level seems fine to me. Some matches I stomp the survivors (especially if someone DCs or goes next), some matches I get 3-4 hooks and no kills, and everything in between.
I have to say that every time I see posts from people claiming that they never lose as killer, I am highly skeptical. Even the best pro streamers don’t go for weeks without losing like you claim. If you really are this good, why don’t you stream or play competitively? I’m not saying this to be rude or dismissive - it’s just difficult to believe. Winning this often would put you in like the top 0.01% of players in the world. -

hiding until server ends without trying to progress gens is holding the game hostage and reportable actually.
This shouldn’t be reportable because it’s something that the devs could very easily fix, but they refuse to. All they need to do is put in a a mechanic that will reveal survivors to killer if they go too long without interacting with the killer or touching a gen. It’s ridiculous that the devs are putting the burden on players to report something that is very difficult to prove with video evidence in many cases.

same! I don’t know how many times I’ve escaped a few games in a row then get thrown into a lobby with survivors that have <100 hours in the game. It’s literally just full random matchmaking with whatever players are waiting next in the queue.
-
There have been tons of posts about this, yet nothing but silence from BHVR on it. Doesn’t seem like they have any plans to fix the broken incentives.
-
same here. I’ve had so many times where I’m carrying a survivor to a hook, don’t see or hear anyone around me, then all of a sudden blinded with no sound of a flashbang or firecrackers. Literally nothing I can do. Apparently BHVR are fine with this because like you said they’ve done nothing about it for months.
-
yep, looks about right to me. the matchmaking system is completely non-functional. The devs can tell us that it works all they want, but what I see in my lobbies in most matches proves that it doesn’t

I've noticed lately that survivors seem to get really triggered when they can't stalk my Steam profile. I play killer with an anonymous profile and hide names (both survivor and killer) to just focus on the actual gameplay, but apparently this is some kind of cardinal sin?
The amount of salt I get in post-game chat just for having a private profile is wild. No toxic gameplay, no tunneling or camping - just the mere fact that they can't see my profile seems to set people off. And my profile is literally empty anyway, so what exactly are they hoping to find?
To the survivors who get worked up about this: What's the deal? What dark secrets do you think I'm hiding by wanting a bit of privacy? And to other killers - do you get this kind of reaction too, or am I just lucky?
just ignore them. They are just mad they can’t cyberbully you. These people are not worth your time

why are you trying to report people for something that isn’t reportable?

I'm impressed by you guys that keep playing this game despite the glaring issues.
BHVR are betting that you will still play the game despite its bugs and balance issues. For 9 years they’ve been right. Why would they change their strategy now?

When people are leaving the ship it's already too late for that. They must act NOW when they still have a playerbase.
I agree, but BHVR appear to be making a different bet and so far it has been paying off for them. They’re betting you’ll still play the game despite all the issues that they aren’t working on, and they’re probably right
-
what do you want BHVR to do? They can nerf killers I suppose, which then just makes killer more difficult and frustrating when you go against good survivors / SWF teams. I can tell you that in most of my killer matches, the survivors are very good and certainly they don’t need more help. Maybe I’m just terrible at playing killer after more than 2,000 hours. If that’s the case, I’d love to have some of these people complaining about how bad the survivor side is to are to show me some of their gameplay and how to regularly stomp survivor teams.
-
A common response to this is “the team that works on skins is different than the team that works on fixing bugs”, but that ignores the reality that BHVR could hire more programmers to work on fixing bugs and have fewer people working on skins. The problem is that fixing bugs doesn’t directly bring in revenue the way that selling skins does. It’s a business decision by BHVR and how they allocate their resources. The strategy has been to fix enough bugs to make the game playable but prioritizing resources on new content that they can sell. They’re betting that you’ll still play the game despite the bugs, and they’re probably rights. Obviously it has been working given the longevity of the game and the stability of the player count.
-
I enjoy 2v8 mode - probably more than regular mode - but I absolutely will not play if BHVR moves forward with the terrible idea of putting bots in lobbies. This idea received almost universal negative feedback and I hope the devs will actually listen
-
this is not reportable.
-
it’s never going to happen. The business model is crank out as much content as possible and keep the game in a bugged but playable state. Unless people start leaving the game in large numbers due to bugs, this model isn’t going to change
-
Players have been complaining for years about this, but BHVR isn’t going to do anything about it. They don’t want to enforce any sort of ping limits in lobbies because it would reduce the number of people playing the game and thus reduce revenue. Doesn’t matter if it results in a miserable or unfair experience for the other players.

yes, ever since last 2v8, role incentives have been broken. They make no sense whenever I play. There will be incentive for survivor and nothing for killer, even when survivor queues take minutes and killer queues are instant. It sure appears that there’s no plan or timeline to fix this.

Lately, I’ve been experiencing frequent internet dropouts, but that can happen sometimes, right? I just don’t think it’s fair. I really enjoy playing the game, but this is ruining the fun for me! If I don’t play for a few days, will the penalty reset, or will it still start at 6 hours again?
it’s not fair to the other people whose games you’re ruining by disconnecting. This is not meant to be a cruel comment, like others have said this is part of the expectations for players in a PvP game. You need to make sure that you have a reliable internet connection. You’re not the only person in the match. You are ruining other’s experiences if you are constantly disconnecting, even if it’s not your fault. This is especially true if you’re playing killer as the whole match ends if killer is disconnected.
Ideally the system could detect if a player disconnects due to a legitimate service disruption, but that is not possible. People who want to rage quit can simply unplug their internet connection to make it look like a “legit” disconnection. The DC penalty needs to stay in place to discourage people from doing that.

Another update. Killers again get it all. Survivors almost nothing.
It has become way too hard to be a survivor in this game. Unless you enjoy never ever escaping.
The way they have this game set up now it allows for killers to win every time. The generators are way too close together. They've moved the exit gate, so they're just about on top of each other. The killers seem to be moving faster and their abilities have been amped up to where it is almost impossible to overcome them. The crows literally travel across the whole map. Pinhead chains are way longer. The gunslinger now shoots his gun across about a quarter of the map. Hooks are so close together and good luck, wiggling off, that's never going to happen.
Killers camping a hooked survivor has become an everyday occurrence. They never are far enough away from a hooked survivor for anybody to unhook them successfully without ending up on the hook themselves. So you're basically playing a game of everybody on hooking, there's survivor and then everybody dies, and you don't even get a generator started.
You guysYou guys have made it impossible to be a survivor and get out. The game has become no fun to play.
Last night I played for over six hours and loaded in with some pretty good survivors and we didn't get out at. I understand sometimes you load in with survivors that there's no chance at getting out of the map, but I loaded in quite a few times where we should have been able to get out.
I find myself playing with keys in order to even have half a chance to escape. That takes all the fun out of the game.
Survivors often have to play with AI, but if it was easier to be a survivor maybe you wouldn't have to have artificial intelligent players to complete a team. we'd have normal everyday players this game is beginning to make no sense. The way it slanted for killers always to win.
Truthfully, I hope the developers do something and do something sooner. I will have to move on to something else which will make me really sad.As I really love this game.
survivor escape rate is right where the devs are targeting, at least according to the extremely limited (and outdated now) stats that BHVR provides. If you are escaping at a far lower rate, that indicates an individual skill issue. This isn’t meant to be a “git gud” comments, it’s just a reality of the overall skill distribution of the player base. There are players that are really good, there are players that are really bad, and everything in between. The devs should not be balancing the game around players on the low end of the skill distribution curve. That applies to both killer and survivor players.
A lot of these types of posts are coming from people who never play killer. I highly recommend people actually try playing killer for a while before demanding killer nerfs. It’s not as easy as you think once you start going against experienced survivors who know what they’re doing. -
@[Deleted User] said:
It has been ridiculous over the last couple weeks. I'm probably at 10% escape rate in that period. I don't understand why the developers think this is acceptable. It's matchmaking. It's 1000% the matchmaking. You are not entitled to a player's time and money. This is a PVP game. Treat it like one and respect your playerbase's time.
Matchmaking is non-functional and is by far the biggest reason why solo queue experience is terrible. BHVR seems to believe that most players would rather have a fast queue and get matched with whoever, regardless of skill level, than wait a little longer and get matched with similarly-skilled and experienced players. Not to mention how flawed the skill-measuring system is to begin with (escapes being the sole measure of “skill”)
-
A post like this isn’t very helpful if you’re not going to state what specific bugs you have noticed with this new patch. I play survivor about 50% of the time and a few different killers the other half of the time, and I haven’t noticed any significant bugs.
-
@HerInfernalMajesty said:
I could be remembering it wrong but the devs mentioned that the bp bonus is different for everyone depending on things like mmr, region, etc.
True, but the incentives should always correlate with queue times if they are working correctly. The longer queue should have no incentive while the shorter queue should have an incentive that scales with how big the killer:survivor ratio imbalance is. Ever since the last 2v8 event, nearly every single time I’ve played, there has been an incentive for the role with the longer queue time, which makes no sense.
-
Everything makes a lot more sense when you realize the fact that the matchmaking system is completely non-functional. There’s a very good reason why BHVR won’t let us see MMR scores. It would reveal what we already know based on in-game experience that you just get thrown into a lobby with the next team waiting, regardless of MMR, in order to minimize queue times.

Most Sane Killer Mane

Can you explain why voice communication between all 4 players is a significant advantage?
What makes the advantage significant as opposed to the regular communication that will inevitably happen throughout the course of the match?
Communication between all 4 players is a significant advantage and makes it extremely difficult for the killler to get more than 1 kill if the survivors know what they are doing.
If the survivors know what they are doing they don't necessarily require comms to win a great deal of their matches. The game provides soloQ with everything they need to succeed, or fail. If I completely suck at chases, no amount of voice communication will save me from a competent killer. If the entire team is mediocre at best at everything then no amount of voice com will prevent me getting them all.
If you are playing a basic M1 killer and all survivors in the lobby have enough experience to run common tiles vs M1 killers perfectly while using every second not spent in chase holding M1 on a gen then no communication is required. They see you coming, they prerun to the next safest tile to waste your time.
You seriously can’t see how voice communication between teammates provides a significant advantage? wow…
Let me help:
- Negates the need for any perk that provides killer location info so perk slots can be opened for other more useful gen/chase/2nd chance perks
- Coordination of perks before the match even begins
- After killer hooks someone, teammates can call out which gen killer is heading to, giving survivor a head start on leaving the gen for safety
- Team knows who is going for rescue and who should stay on gens
- Team knows which pallets have been used already
- Coordinating which gens to complete to spread out distance between the final gens
- Coordinating flashlight/flashbang saves
- Coordinating pallet saves
- Coordinating body blocks and endurance protection hits
Should I keep going? All of these are benefits that solo teams without comms do not have access to.

Best perk for solo queer would be “somehow fix the busted matchmaking system” perk

I think the game should just remove solo queue
Make the game only possible to be played if you are queueing up with 3 other people from your friends list
thats the only way to balance it out and make people happy
never going to happen. Would decimate the number of players in the game (and also the revenue coming in). Plenty of people (including myself) are willing to play solo queue despite the issues. I don’t mind solo queue as long as my teammates know what they are doing. The core problem is that the non-functional matchmaking system puts me with brand new survivors all the time, even though I have >2,000 hours and consider myself a decent (but not great) survivor player.

Does this seem normal to you, for a multiplayer focused game, in 2025?
Why do we, with 40 ping, get a killer that has 300+ ping from the other part of the world?
After almost ten years, and 3500 hours of playing, I see matchmaking is still terrible, not to say worse.https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/70D8NA2K5F4D/image.png
Furthermore, why pallets don't work sometimes? (same game as the above screenshot)BHVR refuses to enforce ping limits because they want as many people as possible around the world playing the game. They won’t even show us pings in lobbies. Too bad if it results in a crappy and unfair experience for other players. Unless people start leaving the game in large numbers because of this issue, BHVR will never do anything about it.
-
I have no problem with people playing with their friends and communicating, but I am absolutely going to find a different lobby if I can tell it’s a 4-man squad. Communication between all 4 players is a significant advantage and makes it extremely difficult for the killler to get more than 1 kill if the survivors know what they are doing. Anyone claiming otherwise is being dishonest. The game is not balanced around all 4 survivors coordinating with each other.
-
@BorisDDAA said:
Killrate is definitely closer to 70/30 without swf. Any decent killer at minumum just wipes the floor with solo queue.
no, actually it’s about 60% kill rate based on the last stats that BHVR provided, which is exactly the kill rate the devs are targeting

just find a different lobby if you can tell it’s a 4-man SWF. Let them wait for someone else who’s willing to put up with the unfair advantage of comms and coordination.

same here. I play survivor about half the time and it is pretty rare that I see killers intentionally bleed everyone out. I think a lot of these complaints are coming from players who have never played killer. They get super mad anytime they get slugged or tunneled because don’t understand that there are certain situations where tunneling or slugging is the best play for the killer. They definitely never provide any suggestions for how killers can maintain competitiveness in matches without ever slugging or tunneling.

Oh look the standard get better comeback from a killer main who never played survivor in his life. Magic hand needs nerfed to where it slows him down if he lifts a pallet. Right now its incredibly broken. All survivors have is pallets.
I play survivor about half the time and I also think you should try improving your gameplay first instead of immediately asking for everything on the killer side to get nerfed. I think there are certainly a few killer powers that are annoying/overpowered, but everything I’ve seen you asked to get nerfed has ressonable counterplay on the survivor side.
-
The community in general doesn’t complain about Pyramidhead because there’s nothing to complain about. His power is easy to dodge. He’s probably one of the most balanced killers in the whole roster. The only complaints you’ll see occasionally on the forum are about how awful and useless his add-ons are.

That is all fine if survivors can counter it. They can't.
survivors can’t counter slugging? That’s news to me. Every time I leave someone on the ground to chase another nearby survivor, the slugged survivor gets picked up within a minute or two. Every team I face seems to have no issue dealing with it. If survivors aren’t getting picked up by their teammates, that’s a problem with the survivors, not the killer. I agree that Knockout is disproportionately oppressive against solo queue teams, but that is not a problem with killers and how they play. It’s because of the bigger issue of BHVR refusing to address the massive advantage that SWF get from communication
-
I’m fine with discouraging/punishing slugging as long as there is also some encouragement/benefit given to the killer for hooking. If there is only punishment for slugging, then it’s just going to make games ridiculously busted for sabo/flashlight/flashbang teams.
