Interesting. I'm on PC and most of my matches are with players with crossplay icons. It's pretty rare that I get a non-crossplay player in the lobby.

If they can do this why BHVR doesn't do this????? why do they not take the skins and animations?????
Being a gacha game sucks, but this is gorgeous. Better animation, better cosmetics, cosmetics on powers, better moris, multiple moris per killer. It's sad seeing how well a mobile app pulls this off when the original game powered by PCs/consoles lags so far behind.

For me it's the Nemesis perk that let's you see all the survivors at the start of the match. Everyone just barely loaded in and already there's injuries everywhere within like the first minute...
That perk wasn't a great idea to begin with. Does too much work for the killer at the start of the trial, particularly on high mobility killers. If it were changed to randomly show the aura of two survivors and have a range limitation to about 1/2 the map, it'd be more balanced.

I mean, its an unranked online party game. Not everyone is doing the objective or cares if they escape.
I just play casually for maybe 10 hours a week. I could care less if I win, lose, get tunneled out, get slugged, etc. Its a video game that's intended to be fun, not my livelihood.
Some Survivors Are: Playing with new builds seeing how perks interact, only completing Tome / Daily Challenges, Barely paying attention and talking to their friends on discord / XBL Party (not full swf), Trying to "befriend the killer", Away from their screen getting a drink, etc. etc. etc. You aren't going to get competent (or even present) teammates every game, so don't be surprised if people start griefing for fun.
Sometimes, when you get bored its fun to throw a pebble at a teammate that's healing or Red Herring an injured /death hook teammate that's working on a gen. Maybe run empathy and lead the killer to someone that's healing.
Idk man. Sometimes the real killer is your teammates.
I've seen it happen when you open a chest someone else apparently wanted, you ran a killer at them (intentionally or otherwise) so they're holding you up for the killer, etc. I've been known to annoy the hell out of someone who unhooks me while I'm trying to leave the trial.
Usually just play chill, grab what points you can, then gg next. Best way to play solo queue these days.

In solo queue, mmr is such a crap shoot it feels like I have a high chance of wasting any good items I bring.
I also understand it's frustrating for killers to constantly go against teams stacked with a bunch of medkits and toolboxes every match so I try to give them a break. Maybe if more people did so, fewer killers would run black wards with full meta perks. Probably not....
@Halloulle said:
there's usually little point in bringing something other than a medkit or stupidly powerful toolbox. And those are few and far in between and to be used if you need a specific challenge/ritual done or really want to pip or have a specific build in mind.
And since you're not supposed to have an escape rate higher than ~35% and with all the junk in the bloodweb you'll lose items faster than you gain them -- and depending on the match won't even get to use them. So there is really relatively little point in bringing them for any match you play just for the fun of it.

Because outside of my main survivor, the other survivors I use for challenges or themed builds for a challenge. And often I don't feel like investing BP into those characters to get more items so I would rather just bring no items.

I don’t bring item’s because if I’m running a build I don’t want it to hinge on an item that could be getting franklin’d out of my hands.
if i need an item (for healing if i cant self heal) i’ll check basement or some other chest.
keys are worthless.
Toolboxes are useless if the other survivors don’t help on generators.
The sabotage toolbox is better used with friends and sabotage perks.
running a healer build is pointless if you’re playing alone since other players can’t see your perks and will probably get you both killed without Circle of Healing. And the fact circle of healing exists means… well all you need is botany.
flashlights… i mean… there’s only 1 flashlight build worth using.
firecrackers are event exclusives. Kinda like having them.
maps are a wasted item without emotes or that specific add on that makes markers (good luck finding anyone that knows what it’s used for)
and… i think that’s it. So yeah. Good luck with your brown medkit and toolbox. Because nothing else is worth bringing when playing solo.
so that’s what i bring if i bring anything.
@Dreamnomad said:
Well for me, I just don't like losing items when I die. If I don't bring an item then I can't lose it. Some challenges require using certain items so I like to save for those challenges.

I don't like using rare items (green and above) because I know I'm dying like, 80% of the time, and I don't want to waste them while I don't have time to play regularly to get better at surviving.
Yellows and brown can deplete quickly and there are very few items in the bloodweb.
Addditionally, if the rest of my lobby all have items, especially all medkit, I'll tend not to bring an item so that killer has less of a hard time if teammates happened to bring something busted.
Currently messing with Appraisal/Ace in the Hole though, to let my items up to chance. =)
@kingcarl2012 said:
Pretty much all my BP goes to killers so I hoard them until I need them for a challenge and I dont ply soloQ so I try to keep it more fair, sometimes I use them if only playing in a duo though.
So yeah. Any of these work.
Unless I'm doing a tome entry that requires an item or in an SWF (rarely), no real point in bringing anything. Trials are over too fast or I just go next to leave a chitty one.
Hell, I don't even use offerings for BP on survivors. You'll almost never get a decent value out of it unless the killer is up for farming. Wait for the survivor queue bonus to kick in, otherwise farm BPs on killer.

@TeabaggingGhostface said:
I'd prefer it if perks had a points system
Agreed. Have perks setup in groups based on what they do then have them weighted accordingly. A four perk loadout has a max number of points that can be used. Using more than one of the same type/category invokes a penalty that uses more of the max allowable points.
So if you wanted to use multiple high-value perks or multiple perks in the same category you can, but you'd wind up having to 3-perk the trial.

How does anyone play skull merchant with that abysmal 2 second loop of chase music? People rightfully gave the reworked chase music for Ghostface crap because it was grating to the ears. Seriously, gameplay discussions aside I can't stand the music. It's very annoying, and no matter how hard I try to look past it, I just can't. Out of all the killers, I can't think of a worse chase music.
The latest Nurse chase music is godawful and loud, but yeah, SM chase music is bad.

Nerf gen regression perks, nerf gen repair speed perks, add pumpkins.

Killer side I tend to lean on Wraith as my point farmer. I just love his ability to surprise and run down survivors fast. Another I have fun running is tablet Plague for the unique/unexpected playstyle, ability to deny healing, and forcing survivors to choose whether to be one-shot or heal and give me unlimited ranged death for 60 seconds at a time.
Survivor side I don't have a particular favorite as they're all just perk skins, no real uniqueness. I'll usually run whichever is the most quiet and/or hides in plain sight well.
-
Solo queue is rough, particularly with how off matchmaking is. You'll get thrown in with clueless teammates, killers that wipe everyone at 4-5 gens, or both. You'd think there would be some in-trial boost to help balance out the difference in rankings when that happens. At least a small action speed buff, minor heal-over-time buff, hit/swing recovery buff, reduction to stun/blind timers, reduction in number of pallets/windows, pallets reset after enough time has passed, etc. Something.

The game looked so much better years ago. Now most maps are...I don't know. Cheerful?

so anyway no gens were touched after the 20 minute mark and the survivors decided to play hide and seek in the lockers. at about the 40 minute mark i got bored and wandered around opening lockers even the basement lockers and they still wouldn't touch the gens. at the 50 minute mark i just decided to take the dc penalty since it was obviously my fault for not bringing an aura reading perk. honestly still can't believe this is still a thing lol

It's okay. Though I have died a few times when trying to complete this challenge in the past because survivors have stuck around until the last possible second to show killers their dance moves.
This time around I hated the co-op healing challenge. As a solo player this took me ages to get it done.
The whole survivors not leaving thing has been what has draaaaaaggged out every hatch challenge I've ever had. Doesn't matter how good or bad the trial went, most survivors will hang out at the exit until forced to leave by the killer or the timer is about to expire.
The solution is pretty simple, though I've no idea why it's never been implemented. Any survivor loitering at or within 12m of an open exit gate for longer than 8 seconds without leaving the trial or going further into the map (such as to try to rescue someone) begins accumulating an exit debuff timer equal to 2 seconds for every 1 second in the area. Hang out for 15 seconds without leaving? The entity blocks both of the final exit gates for you personally for 30 seconds. You lose this debuff on a 1 second to 1 second ratio by being out of that area for the full debuff timer. The accumulation timer is paused if you're actively being chased or are downed. Performing any other action does not pause it. If you're downed you begin losing the debuff timer at a rate of 1.5 seconds to 1 second on timer.
The results are either survivors leave or give the killer a good opportunity to kill them. The issue is solved, for both killers and other survivors.

You might be happy to wait 10 minutes, but the majority aren't.
This was tested last year. The system we have is the one the playerbase preferred in a blind trial.
The thing is, a large chunk of that playerbase doesn't play anymore. With many of the vets gone, how awful matchmaking is now as a result of post perk overhaul exodus, plus no events going on to bring people in even temporarily, another round of testing/polling needs to be done.
Previously I'd have voted for quicker lobby times, now I'd wait 10+ minutes in a heartbeat to get something close to a balanced match.
In the prior testing they ran a different setup each day, which is very limiting for both sample size and giving players a solid sense of the differences. They should take the top four setups players voted for the last time and run each for one week over the course of a month, then have players rank them one through four. The two least voted for options get dropped, and a new vote is held for the top two (so anyone that voted for one of the two dropped options can at least vote for the lesser of two evils that are left to them).
-
Besides dropping the lobby on a suspected gen rush group, run Franklin's. I run that most of the time on Wraith and for the first couple minutes of the match run around playing hit and run.
If you down a survivor, leave them and keep going until you've knocked everything out of everyone's hands. Sometimes you can slug most of the team because instead of running they'll pick up the item that just got dropped so it doesn't degrade.
Some will get their toolboxes off, but with Wraith speed and making a beeline for where the survivors will likely be immediately, you will usually reach them in time to scare them off the gens before everything's been used. Lethal Pursuer is also good for that.
Franklin's is especially indispensable if one or more of the survivors is running Built to Last, or it's a mixed item group (toolbox, med kit, flashlight).

Sometimes the survivor setup doesn't leave you much choice, no matter how much you want to play chill.
Boil Over + they keep running to an area without hooks? Bleed them out.
Gen rush? Camp and farm unhook attempts.
Multiple oak offerings? Slugfest.
No Mither or No Mither/Boil Over build? Survivor whack-a-mole.
Greed every pallet like they're Gollum and it's their precious? Tunnel them out (or use them to remove all the main/strong pallets).
You adapt to what's being thrown at you and run with it. It can be more strategic (and way more fun) to guarantee a particular person loses/depips than you sweating to win. Especially against an overly altruistic team.

I still find it bizarre that the reporting system made it into the game like this. Seems like it was an afterthought.

Mmmm. False. When I play blight, I get DC’s alllll the time if they get downed too quickly off rip. Or I landed a really nice flick / hug tech. Or….
I waited out their DH. DC.
I mind gamed them. DC.
They tea bag me then instantly go down 10 seconds later. DC out of shame.
I never tunnel and I still get DC’s constantly.
Yeah but...Blight. It's not so much how you played, but that this particular killer and their addon set exists. Playing most other killers on the roster won't net you nearly so many DCs. Same with Nurse.
Beyond that, I have been having a significant increase in game crashes lately. Either the game will spontaneously crash to desktop or stutter then tell me I've been disconnected. Have had at least one system hard lock. Started in the last week. It's irritating on its own, but especially so when it's been a difficult trial and it's building up to a win. All other games are running normally, and system diagnostics come back clean. Driver updates/reinstalls don't change anything. Occasionally running a verify integrity of game files in Steam will find a file that needs to be re-downloaded, though it doesn't specify which, only that it's about 1mb.
Current theory is that the upcoming DLC is sucking so hard that it's created a vacuum that's causing game-wide disturbances.

That seems to happen every other update. One update they work normally, the next they can hit outside of their graphic area.

I don't understand why they need to look into a solution. They can just have an option to turn off bloodweb animations, and have the bloodweb nodes instantly fill in when you click them. And when a bloodweb is completely filled in, the next bloodweb instantly appears.
That's all they need to do for a first pass. Just an option to remove the animations. We don't need to use complicated math, or try to figure out some complex AI solution that autofills bloodwebs.
This. It's simple and effective. The animations are unnecessary, being told what level you're at for the few moments it takes to level past it is unnecessary, hold to click is as unnecessary for the bloodweb as it was for the tome entries. And all it requires is to turn off things that are already on, to start.
-
Most stealth classes can get is easily. I got it on Wraith. Load the perk with three other perks you like to run. Hit someone. Immediately stealth. You'll get ~4 screams before the survivors even know you're running it. Collect the remaining screams while they look for the totem, then finish the trial.
As someone mentioned previously, you can go to the totem yourself and camp it until the collection is done.

But it’s okay, I’m sure we were deprived of content this update because anniversary has something good planned… Right? …right?
Pretty hard pass.
-
Oof. As far as the usual 'behind the scenes' marketing fare goes, this seems bland and hastily thrown together. :/
-
So much no, and for more reasons than I'm going to invest time in listing.
The only thing I'm going to suggest is that the locations of totems in general need to be better hidden, and have more spawn location options, as even outside of their sound effects they're usually too easy to find for both sides.
One advantage Booners have is they can pick the totems that are less out in the open to use, but even then there's not always great options available.
Hexes spawn on trial start and are randomly applied to dulls. Having a Hex show up on a totem that's just sitting by a tree or rock, out in the open with nothing else around it, guarantees it's going out within 20 seconds of the match starting. This is the major reason that most traditional Hex perks aren't used anymore, even before some got nerfed. Lifespans are typically too short to get any real value, and you wind up just three perking it for the match.
-
Usually doesn't matter to me one way or the other, for either side. Unless I'm doing a tome/daily that somehow required something that I won't be able to get now. Even then, get it in the next trial.
On Killer it slows the trial down and I can play more chill, often farming with the other survivors. I usually wind up having more fun, and I get to play the mini game of guessing if that was the survivor that brought the map offering.
On Survivor it's more "Ah well." I definitely get it, as I've hooked out on a number of occasions. Sometimes the match is just done for you even if someone else wants to keep playing. It's the other Survivors that still try to get a cheap unhook off you, when it's obvious you're not staying, that's tedious. Now you have to find the Killer and repeat, preferably before the safe unhook BPs go out.
-
It's not just EU. Getting matchmaking errors in NA as well.
Errors are all "Matchmaking Failed", with subheadings "ChurnExceeded" or "QueueTimeout".

You shouldn't focus so much on it. Just play and it will happen in time.
Everything else is just a recipe for stress.
An example from my experience is the hex:devour 4 Mori achievement. I never intentionally looked for it and when it happen didn't even know that it existed. I just did a game with hag for a daily and since i had only crap perks unlocked on her i just used her own plus old bbq and it just happened.
But i was happy nonetheless and can only imagine the stress and frustration actively trying to go for it only for survivor to successfully cleanse the totem midway, one of them DCing (especially the last one is most frustrating when denying you) or they manage to open the gates since i was too focused on the achievement and forgot to pressure them.
Tldr: Just relax, play and it will happen some time.
I don't remember an achievement dedicated to Hex: Devour. Was it "Blood in Your Mouth" (kill a total of 25 survivors by your own hand)? The only other one I can recall where Devour is helpful would be "I See You" (down 30 survivors that are exposed).

But why not use YT or Vimo like they want for the report....I'm pretty sure it's stated in the steps that they want it that way.
The support department is very good at what they do, I haven't had any issue when I report hackers or possible hackers
Where I normally play the office has a firewall preventing access to most streaming sites. I'm not going to submit a request to ask the IT department to grant me personal access to a site like YouTube, just because one game I play won't accept hacking/exploiting/rule breaking/bug videos in/of their game through any other means. Players are already asked too much of to report anything in this game.
This seems to be a recent change as well. Up until about two weeks ago there was never any issues with them pulling video from a media sharing site.
Ah well. Like one less person making an effort at reporting is going to make things any worse.
-
@BougieBlackChick said:
I know they keep saying they working on cheating and they can’t say what they’re doing but that they banned a lot of cheaters. Great.
My issue is the reporting system. When you report a cheater you have to file an in game report which flags the match but then you have to submit a ticket with video evidence. If you’re not a streamer and/or you don’t record all your matches just on the off chance that you’ll have a cheater in your match.. then basically reporting does nothing. The hacker just gets away.
Why is the burden on us the player to record all of our matches in order for BHVR to catch cheaters? This is the only game I’ve played thus far that requires this level of work from the playerbase to find and remove people who are cheating and hacking. What’s the point of EAC?
Correct me if I’m wrong because maybe I don’t understand, but I’ve never had to record every match of other games I play just in case I need to report a hacker/cheater. What are other game devs doing to combat this issue that BHVR isn’t?
It is painfully problematic.
Even in cases where I manage to get video of a player actively hacking, it's like pulling teeth anymore to get the support reps to even look at it. Submit the in-game report, upload the videos and screenshots to a media share site, file the slow/dragged-out/inefficient chat report with the share links. Days later I get an e-mail saying they won't look at the video because it's not in their preferred YouTube or Vimeo format. It's an .mp4 file. Universally playable on anything that can play video.
No, I can't upload it via chat or by e-mail as both have a measly 50mb size limit. Why don't you have an FTP setup on your support servers so the files can be uploaded directly? Or maybe increase the size limit for video files being sent via chat to something realistic, like 350-500mb?
It's a shame. In a flakey company, most of the support department used to be the few people you could rely on to be solid.

For me it's 7pm EST, North America (-5 GMT). This is when the dailies reset, and on Tuesdays when the Shrine resets.

Maps are mostly useless, unless you're doing a tome entry or get an iri map in-trial. And that's before the possibility of it getting Franklin'd or you dying and losing it.
If you're hatch hunting, use the perk Clairvoyance and eat a totem. It'll show you the aura of most everything within 64m of you for up to 10sec per totem (only stores 1 totem charge at a time). The hatch will only become visible to perks/maps when you're the last survivor in the trial.
-
There used to be a ping meter in the lobby that gave your actual ping in ms, with a running update. This was great to let me know when I was being thrown into a lobby on another continent across an ocean for some messed up reason. They removed this last year when the population dropped so low that they had to start widening the geographical regions players could connect to, so lobbies would spawn faster. The intent was to hide how far away you're connecting to by not showing you actual numbers.
It was a terrible decision that's been cursed by players ever since, and BHVR seems willing to die on the hill of never putting it back. They somehow believe that an icon that only shows up when you're already lagging, put in a small lobby with no map loaded and almost no activity, will suffice to let you know how bad it's going to be once you're in the trial.
If you ever wanted insight into their decision making, there you go.

Makes infection time 80 seconds. Doubles infection rate. And faster bp. But cannot direct vomit. Insane with the extra 30 second addon for gen guarding (110 seconds of corruption). But you have to ignore point blank vomits and chase normally unless corrupt purge.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/2SXX35KA2XEX/20230203-143806.jpg
Makes FF 20 seconds. Faster bp. But makes you slower. Stack with mural sketch for FF down incarnate.
(These are supposed to be memey addons that just so happen to make viable alternate playstyles of the character. I personally like meme addons like them. Easy to get a bunch of them and i enjoy the playstyles more)
I really like playing Prayer Tablet Plague. It's more fun and easier than running the Plague with their regular playstyle. That plus one of a few other addons causes survivors to hit max infections/broken very fast. They either have to run around as a one-hit down in a chase, or cleanse and give Plague the option to use Corruption to crush through health states.
For example, you can couple it with a +duration addon and puke on almost everything that a survivor can interact with to guarantee they gain large chunks of infection at a time, or combine with the addon that gives Corruption automatically every time a gen is done and spray survivors that are coming off the gens broken.
You don't have to worry much about lag causing aim issues or a survivor's ability to juke, either, which is just gravy. With the exception of Corruption, everything you're puking on is a static object. Once a survivor is quickly broken, get close, wait for them to try to 360 and smack them.
You can fake a survivor out when needed by puking on them running one way to have them turn and run the other way to a window/pallet you've already infected. The normal vile vomit doesn't actually do anything, but the reaction animation/sound is the same as if it were infecting/damaging the survivor, so during a chase most will react to that out of habit.

The SWFs I ended up with today were great loopers quite understandably since they spent most of the time messing with the Killer while I did the gens. I appreciated keeping the Killer distracted but I'm not sure three survivors were required to be in chase most of the match.
The solos I was queued with did something. What exactly I'm not sure since it wasn't represented by an action icon a lot of the time. They didn't get AFK crows though so I'm not sure what it was exactly but it was something.
So primarily escapes today since I just stayed on gens most of the match (as opposed to getting off to unhook because if one person is hooked and the other two are doing nothing I'm not leaving my gen if I'm the only one doing them) but it was quite the eye-opener to see how little actually gets done in so many matches.
Preach. I play solo queue but seem to be cursed to wind up with 2 or 3 SWF players periodically that have no interest in doing anything but trolling the killer. To make matters worse, most of them aren't as good at it as they think, judging by how often they get downed/hooked/killed.
Getting dropped in a lobby with 2-3 other survivors with high prestige, crazy cosmetics, and kitted out used to be great as it meant that they had a good idea of what they were doing and I wasn't going to have to play Hatch Hunt. Sometime back that changed, and it seemed like half the time that situation was worse than four solos (besides the leaving you to die on a hook because you're a "random").
Now with the new icons I can see just how awful I've suspected it to be. Thus far in the vast majority of the trials there's been a gen icon by my name most of the trial and infrequently by anyone else's. I'll see chase icons beside two people's names for way longer than there should be. I'll see just blank space beside some names most of the trial.
Some people on the forums still feign confusion why people just go next. If no one's going to help get things done and you're going to depip anyway, there's no point in sticking around. Give the next trial a shot and hope it goes better.

My license wishlist is pretty long, however right now i mostly wanna see another cult classic chapter like Phantasm, Maniac Cop, Pumpkinhead, Re-Animator and Wishmaster in dbd.
Phantasm would be sick. The Tall Man with the flying death orbs that can manifest just about any attachment would bring a LOT of options for the killer. Including summoning the little cloaked minions (maybe that's how he carries the bodies to the hook?).
Reggie is a must for survivor. You'd figure he'd get ganked five mins into the first movie, but the guy just keeps on surviving though them.
