  • This is pretty good. :)

  • This would be nice. Would also limit the number of times a three-man SWF leaves you on a hook or on the ground because "you're some random".

  • Yeah, they seemed to want to be creative with the description for that one but it can be confusing.

What's supposed to happen is when people are hooked or gens get done a green glyph will spawn on the map where a totem can spawn, just where a totem isn't already spawned/up, and if you're having trouble finding them when EGC starts their aura will show up map-wide for several seconds.

This one seemed to be bugged, as the first 2-3 trials I ran with that tome entry activated no green glyphs spawned at all anywhere. During EGC no auras confirmed that the glyphs didn't spawn. I was able to get it done on the trial after that, though, so I don't know what the issue was.

I boot up the game, see that the new player report feedback system is now live, and then queue into matches as killer against 2 bully squads in a row.

Midwich offering, 3 hook offerings, when the match starts there are 3 No Mither survivors with toolboxes. I'm not getting any hooks this match, which ultimately means an L. Furthermore, why even play? Because if I don't then they get to submit FOUR unsportsmanlike reports against me for idling.

Eyrie of Crows. I get an early down, but they went down under a pallet and all 3 survivors are nearby to try and pallet save them if I pick up or pick them up off the ground if I don't. Anyone I commit to just runs away, so I had no choice again but to take the L and commit to someone else completely. Then they sabo any hook I carry to after that. The match is an L, so why even play? If I don't then they get to submit FOUR unsportsmanlike reports against me for idling.

Nothing they are doing is against the rules, but if I don't be their little bloodpoint pinata for an hour (or until they get bored or scared of losing) then I get reported for it. Great game...

The second group isn't really bullying, though the first group is clearly setup to be conducive to bullying. An offering for a map that is already known to be problematic for number of hooks and hook placement, three hook offerings, and perk setup for anti-slug. Honestly I'd have just skipped the first trial altogether. They can report if they want.

If BHVR was serious in expecting a killer to play through a trial like that they'd adjust the number of hooks and hook placement on that map and limit the number of hook offerings that can be played at any given time. The likely outcome in a situation like you were put in was if the group was even half-decent the killer gets rendered powerless, if the killer was OP (ex: really skilled Nurse) the group has to be bled out. Neither is a situation I'd expect the developer to want to put the players in, just like an hour-long three gen, but here we are.

The best option for you would be if you see an offering setup like that again, have a network issue and go next.

  • With the reputation that SM has, without some kind of formal update announcement from BHVR regarding it most people will still expect three gen hell and suicide/DC out.

You can play however you want, though, and may luck out with some people staying.

  • It'd be nice, but until the devs update the game so that things like hooks/chase/gen kicks/object destruction/hits are cumulatively valued towards a killer win as much as a kill, and chase/gen repair/heals/totem destruction are cumulatively valued as much as an escape for a survivor win, it's really a non-starter. The game was created with these win conditions, and it hasn't changed drastically since launch.

You can change your personal perception of a "win" to fit whatever you need it to (and that's often the best course of action for your own sanity), but it won't change how the game works or the way the majority of the players play it.

I'm hoping BHVR does perform these changes to the game, as it will be a huge benefit across the board for everyone. But since we are where we are this far into the game's life and nothing on the horizon but the occasional band-aid, I don't foresee the game doing anything but becoming more stressful/toxic for both sides as time moves on.

  • Some of the names of the Xeno addons are kinda...uninspired. Of all the stuff in the Aliens universe, even limiting it to the first movie, resorting to instances of caps and helmets seems a bit meh. You'd think they'd lean more towards the Alien itself vs the crew items, which would be more appropriate for the survivor.

  • It's actually the best place for it. It can be seen by many and reported by many before it hits live.

PTB is the place to find and test this type of thing.

  • Would change little. There will always be a way around it, or it will make the game worse for the remaining survivors (the "saved" player throws all the pallets on the map, follows the unhooker while sprinting/fast vaulting everywhere to alert the killer, AFKs in front of one of the gate control panels, runs to the killer to get downed/hooked again, etc.).

BHVR has already stated they have no intention of forcing a player to remain in a trial. Realistically it's because it would cause even more negative feedback for them and in a way that would hurt their image more than balance/bug complaints, and could ultimately cause a percentage of players to quit the game (cutting into their DLC/cosmetic profits).

BHVR has already trained much of the player base to be willing to put up with a lot of negativity and game issues. I mean obviously most people are just going to come to the discussion boards and complain about hook suicides/DCs/other game problems and not actually quit the game/stop forking over cash for junk.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

I say there should be a 'sacrifice to entity' button on all items and offerings, that give you a 50% refund on Blood points.

I hate having stuff in my inventory I don't use 😂

Indeed. Probably about 70%+ of the junk I get from the bloodweb on both survivors and killers I'll never use.

  • This would be visually neat, but could be problematic for killers that need an element of surprise to get that first hit/down.

Besides, can you imagine if Nurse had her own hooks? Survivors wouldn't need to wait to hear the first blink sound effect, they could just DC on seeing her hook.

  • It's nuts. I got a daily to play Oni and get four blood fury attacks. It took five trials to complete it, as whenever going for the hit, at the last second auto aim turned my character to face too far left or right of the survivor and either hit some random junk or straight up wiff.

I had to fight against both the survivor trying to evade and the game spinning me sideways. During one chase I was running down a survivor between two straight walls with a pallet that was already gone and it would have been a guaranteed hit due to how close I was and the remaining distance to the end of the wall, but right as I swung all of a sudden there was a wall in my face, and when I looked around I was right-angled into one of the walls with the survivor disappearing around the end corner.

Eventually I just slightly spun my character randomly left/right while going for the hit and wound up getting hits more frequently than actually attempting to hit the survivor.

I typically play M1 killers, and it's bad enough catching up to a survivor running MFT, greeding a pallet for three loops, then turning invincible going through a window, but not being able to hit a survivor standing directly in front of you with nowhere to go is just beyond all reason. BHVR can call it whatever they want, but this is some buggy šħĭţ.

  • Depends on the circumstance. I play Wraith a lot, and prefer to get each survivor double hooked before killing anyone off. Gives both sides the opportunity to play, earn some points, have some fun. If I'm getting gen rushed or have a particular survivor who keeps getting in my face trying to get my attention when they really shouldn't (already injured, can't loop well, already been hooked, etc.), I'll tunnel them/someone out to slow the trial down or get rid of the annoyance.

That's one of the main problems with the current game status. Gens fly way too fast, so far more often than I'd like I have to tunnel someone out just to have time to get in some good chases with the other survivors. It's even worse when playing killers with lower mobility or require setup time.

  • WoO and Lethal should both go. Play the game and do your job. Being led by the nose via perk is sad and does nothing to improve yourself.

  • The way the game is now a 6th gen should be added as a condition to open the exits since by the time you start your first chase one gen is already gone.

I'm all for having the game help prevent a 3-gen, but there needs to be a counter balance to it. Either gen repair times increase, all killers get some kind of basekit Ruin, kicking gens takes off double the current value + increased kicking speed, something.

  • Frosty Eyes. Oof. Always the sign of a terrible killer.

  • Trial's over/waste of time.

I would agree that the last person should be compensated with the equivalent amount of struggle BPs.

Seems a bit extreme. We don't know what went on with ST being pulled from DBD, and based on their track record I'd be as soon to blame BHVR as someone else.

  • @bm33 said:

Original BBQ event all survivors still in match got BP from event gen. Current events only Lunar New Year does this - the rest you have to be on the gen or you miss out on event BP.

This is why during most events survivors are left on hooks while teammates do gens - if they leave gen for save they may miss out on event BP. It also builds up alot more frustration during matches - someone runs killer at teammate that's almost done with gen, teammate gets chased off and the one that brought killer over hops on to finish gen and get the event BP.

There's the argument that "if everyone gets BP there will be survivors doing nothing and getting the bonus BP." Personally I think the alternative of missing out because you distracted killer in chase for multiple gens or you were chased off gen that was almost done feels alot worse than maybe someone hiding in a bush gets a little event BP.

The limited event BP on top of it not being much doesn't make this event feel that great. It just feels weirdly stingy when it comes to giving out BP for an event.

    This. Exactly.

I've stopped farming/running the event offering as it's just not worth it all around.

  • Sometimes it's more obvious than others. I get a kick out of the ones that flashlight click at the killer to get their attention and then lead them to other survivors. I make it a point of recording and reporting those. Had one last night apparently get pissed because no one healed them up off the ground fast enough, so when they did get up they started dragging the killer to other survivors. The killer of course went along with it.

Since BHVR doesn't have any means to see this stuff on their end (which I still find bizarre, since this is their game), most non-streamer players don't record their own games, and reporting anything in the game is a long and clunky process, people think they can get away with doing stuff like that.

I keep recording software open and ready to go with a hotkey press, and hit it as soon as someone starts acting up. It may take upwards of 45mins to get everything ready and reported, but at this point I consider it a metagame that goes with DBD.

Works great for the survivors that killers slug until near bled out then pick up repeatedly to try to get them to rat out the last survivor. If I'm the last one and the second to last survivor gets downed, recording starts. It doesn't happen all the time, some survivors nut up and give an FU to the killer by standing there doing nothing, start working on a gen again, or lead the killer to all the wrong places while I finish a gen. But the times they decide to work with the killer, they've made two mistakes. Enjoy the ban.

  • Bots are near-godmode when it comes to most chases, and they rarely if ever get hit with the killer's power (particularly ranged/trap killers) unless the bot is animation locked or a player survivor interferes somehow.

I went against a team last night in Lerys where one person DC'd after burning through a large amount of pallets and realizing their window vault game wasn't up to snuff. It's Lerys, so it already sucks. The other survivors were decent, but the bot was insane. I could down and hook the survivors, even though it took a while in some cases, but the bot I had to wait out until we were both near enough to a window that I could hit them through it while they were slow vaulting. There's no mindgame to be had or survivor misplay. During chase, the bot is 100% on point all the time, can see through walls, can see through stealth, knows with pinpoint accuracy where a ranged shot is going, etc.

If the other three survivors are decent in chase but slow with everything else, you can use the bot to throw most any number of pallets on a map to clear it, but otherwise you really don't want to get in a chase with a bot while there are actual player survivors up.

  • I doubt it was hinting at anything, but it does resemble the Xeno Queen's face from "Aliens" (Alien 2).

  • Any update for this yet? I've seen no info in the bug patches since the bug appeared last year, there's been no response or acknowledgement from the devs on it, and as far as anyone knows it's still bugged. Yet the daily is still popping up, and I still need the achievement.

  • Had a match where one of the other survivors looped the killer for all five gens. After being finally downed and getting picked up, the survivor DC'd. Guessing connection issue or game crash, as I don't know why they'd do that after putting that brilliant amount of work in. The killer wasn't camping the bot and we could get to them and unhooked/out the exit w/o issue. While the killer found and was chasing another survivor we unhooked the bot, which booked it to the exit. We caught it before it got to the panel and it let us heal it. The killer downed and was hooking the third remaining survivor, so we went to get them with the gate 99%'d. The bot tapped the gate panel to open it, and just jogged out.

Now, I realize that that's kinda what it's supposed to do as that's the ultimate goal of playing survivor, but damn. They could at least hang out near the exit to take a protection hit if needed.

  • To play as: Artist. Good at finding survivors, bad at everything else.

To play against: Skull Merchant (game breaking), Wesker (annoying and seen too frequently), or Legion (no killer should have an almost on-demand TR-wide Killer Instinct basekit).

I mean technically you do have a record function on the switch too. It's just not going to be sufficient posting a bunch 30 seconds clips.

Anyways, I play on pc and I have never recorded my games. And to be frank, that shouldn't be expected. BHVR could track these things ingame (they even do it for skillchecks etc.) but for some reason they still don't. After 7 years.

    Preach.

  • The only killer that can consistently do well in Lerys is Nurse, for obvious reasons. Trapper is decent, if the survivors are very slow doing gens. If the survivor group has any game sense whatsoever, Lerys is typically a hellhole for killers.

Singularity is generally relegated to being a noob stomper. Matches you win are ones you don't really need to rely on biopods much at all, and just M1 it. Any above-noob survivor group has at least three EMPs ready to go at all times, making both the biopods and slipstream useless.

If you have the Singularity, just get your achievements done and mothball it until it gets buffed. That's what most people have done, which is why you never see one in public trials.

  • Random crashes have been stacking on me as well. Sitting in lobby, using Bloodweb, loading into a trial, loading out of a trial, looking through addons, etc. Started happening with the anniversary event.

Have ran multiple system diagnostics and swapped out hardware, no change. This is the only game that it's been happening with for me as well, and I've been playing games that are a lot harder on a system than this. Or at least should be, for a game this old with settings on mid-level just so it's playable.

  • As mentioned above, at least in part:

-Best way to learn the killer's powers is without addons.

-If you're really good at a particular killer you can get by with just perks.

-You don't want to be reliant on something that can run out, particularly if it's a rare/high cost item.

-If it's a killer that you farm BPs with, you usually want to spend the BPs elsewhere so you don't spend them on that killer.

-If matches are becoming too fast/easy for you, running with a handicap can bring in more of a challenge, and help you improve playing the killer.

-Some killers have horrible addons (ex: Pyramid Head, Freddy), so playing with addons makes either no difference or a negligble one.

    -Personal/other reasons.

  • She looks like an actor from the beginning of an anti-depression medication commercial.

  • A couple aren't bad, but most of them are just awful. I was disgusted when I pulled up the character select screen. What's worse is they're also used for in-trial portraits. Looks like high school yearbook photos for some CW drama that you don't watch but still hope gets cancelled soon.

I liked the portraits from two portrait updates ago. The one from before they made the Resident Evil character portraits look oddly wet/shiny for some weird reason.

Of all the stuff they can update, why do they persist in updating things no one complained about?

  • @itsHammyyy said:

adding DC bots while simultaneously keeping penalties is counterintuitive. people already kill themselves on hook or go AFK when they don’t want to play a match, and this will not change after they add bots.

i would much rather have a bot on my team that can actually do the objective than play a 3v1 or, worse, deal with dead weight on my team that’s dropping every pallet on the map out of spite.

    remove dc penalties.

Agreed. As-is, DC bots are going to have a very low impact on the game. Most times it's still going to be 3v1.

    @appleas said:

People will just dc for the smallest thing like hearing a Nurse shriek 5 seconds into the game if penalties are removed.

    They don't do that now?

    @WeenieDog said:

Probabaly won't really help anything. I rarely see people dc anyway and instead, they kill themselves on hook.

And if I am going to be real, I'm still going to get up, go afk and make a cup of tea after my second skull merchant game.

Exactly. Save the DCs for special occasions, or for when the game crashes/disconnects you.

  • Depends on the circumstances of the trial, some have already been listed.

The short answer is because it's a game mechanic available to the killer and the killer decided to use it. You can read into it whatever you want or ask the killer at the end of the match (if mutual chat is possible).

  • @C3Tooth said:

Its a really tough choice. Without penalty, people would constantly DC. But with penalty, people would suicide on hook and left 1v3 instead of a bot helping you.

Pretty much. I don't really see the DC bots as having a big impact on the game overall. Yeah, they'll help for someone who DCs/gets DC'd early on, but they're not going to do anything for someone taking a hook out or AFKing because it's Wesker #27 in a row or the server ping is more ridiculous than usual.

It'd be a much better alternative to give players the option of leaving and having a bot swap in for them. Even if it causes a five minute re-queue penalty.

i give up because ps4 performance is terrible and i love trickster and difference between pc and ps4 is ridiculous. I love this game, but i can play it on pc just this year. im tired os psn and ps4

PC is better, by an absolutely stupid amount.

But I have to be honest, if it were me and I put all that time/money into the game before, there's no cross progression and at this point in the game's life there probably won't be, I'd be looking at a massive time/money sink just to get to where I was before with a game/company that couldn't be bothered to work out a cross progression contract or optimize the code for console seven years in, I really wouldn't do it again. My time/money would be better served investing into one or more games from other companies with better foresight and development/upkeep that'll probably have a longer life ahead of it than what DBD likely has left in it.

It's your time and money, though, so play how you want.

I really dislike the trend to add voice lines to characters, as I find them to often be annoying if not cringe-worthy. Pinhead's are fine in my opinion, but I really dislike Wesker's voice and lines, and if Nic Cage is as talkative I'll respectfully take his perks and put them on someone else.

I don't want the game to broaden its thematics to action and anime, I just want it to stay horror themed and for the love of everything unholy, make the characters quiet or give an option to turn off voice lines.

    @Aven_Fallen said:

I would not call DBD a full Horrorgame anyway.

However, when it comes to voicelines... Yeah, they are overdoing it. At least if they dont add an option to disable them. If they add this option, they can make their characters as talkative as they want.

Very much agreed. I'd love an option to disable voice lines. The occasional one isn't bad, such as Ash, but some are just way too chatty. Wesker in particular, but also Trickster and Singularity. Sounds like Nic's going to be added to the list.

Using nightlight stats it's the 6th most seen surv perk at 17.18%. Funny, since I see at least 2 almost every match, and see an even amount of matches where 4 people are running it and 0 people are running it, so for me it's more like 50% pickrate.

But yea, I can pretty much instantly tell when im versing someone with MTF. Thankfully after I p100 knight I'm putting all my BP into skull merchant to get her p100 so I can get infinite exhaustion add ons and geo readouts. So MFT wont be an issue for me until it gets nerfed.

Nightlight only shows what others upload to it, which is just a small portion of the DBD playerbase.

  • Same. I thought the crash issues were finally fixed in 6.x, but not long after 7.x was released they started up again. Doesn't appear to be any specific thing going on when they happen, either. Sitting in a character lobby doing nothing, loading into a trial, using the bloodweb, running around in-trial, trial is finished and about to load out (this one is really irritating), etc. Reminds me why I only came back for the event.

  • @PeacenGreasealt said:

As someone who used to enjoy playing Clown, I find afterpiece antidotes stupid even if they objectively make him better. It came at the cost of builds I enjoyed which was so alienating that I stopped playing him. They never should have went in that direction because what he gained still didn't make him any better it just ruined the play experience for a fair amount of us older Clown players.

Made For This's 3% is a million times more accessible than Machine Learning's 10% which is not only time gated, but has a ridiculous setup restriction of kicking two gens and then letting survivors finish the gen. The killer has basically no control over the usage of their own perk and it has always and will always feel bad to have perks centered around the concept of "you need to willingly lose objective control to gain benefits". It's literally perk where if you're doing well you'll likely to never get it when it would be useful and if you're doing poorly it isn't really going to help you turn things around. There are easier ways to get undetectable and there are better haste effects with lower haste values that are much more accessible conditions. Made For This gives a constant 3% just because you got injured and you keep that 3% as long as you stay injured and don't lose it unless you're exhausted. That's worth being concerned about.

Agreed. The antidote is fine in concept, but the flow between switching vials isn't as smooth as it should be and the cooldown hangs sometimes so although you tried to switch and it looked like you did, you didn't, and now you're throwing the wrong vials. Changing up some of the addons was ok, but there was no reason to lean into the antidote as much. Although he may be technically "better" now, he's less fun to play. I'd rather not use the antidote vials at all now. Having the antidote affect the survivors, particularly at the same speed and with the same buff as the killer, is annoying as well. A chunk of the temp speed boost you get is used up to compensate for the length of time you had to stand in the cloud for it to take effect. The time to effect should be shorter or the length of the buff should be longer (or of higher value). And the effect survivors get from the antidote should be lessened or come with a consequence (such as hindered by 3% for a few seconds once the buff wears off).

Your breakdown of MFT vs ML, and MFT granting such a value for just taking a hit, is spot-on.

I want it but I can only play for one more day before the event ends so I won't get it. Don't even think I'll get the first charm. I'm just happy Billy's final piece wasn't locked behind a community challenge. I though it would be and I'd miss out. I'll still do do the first one (second one too if it opens before I leave) to help.

No lie, the top of page two is dragging. If BHVR cut the total amount required for all of the community entries in half it would still shut a lot of people out. I don't know why they estimate these figures way too high. They should be able to see the data on their end for what the average is in the game and plan accordingly.

  • If you manually edited the GameUserSettings.ini file to make any of the setting changes that for some reason aren't available in the game's settings menu, the file may be set to Read-Only. Which you typically want to have set that way so the game doesn't try to revert the settings you made. However, this will also prevent some settings that you want to be set from saving.

Open the game and let it sit on a menu screen. Tab out and go to the GameUserSettings.ini, right click on it, and choose Properties. There's a check box that says "Read-Only". Un-check this and click OK. Tab back into the game, set whatever settings you want, then exit the game. Go back to the GameUserSettings.ini, right-click/Properties, re-check "Read-Only", OK.

Load the game back up and make sure all of the settings are where you want them. Then double check the GameUserSettings.ini file to make sure the settings you put in there are correct as well. This should keep the manual settings you put into it previously plus the settings you changed in-game.

  • Either the tome entry is or the description is incorrect. You have to activate it three times in a trial for credit. Multiple reports have already been given about it on the Bug Forum.

Also, if playing Killer and activating it for the Endurance buff you have to take a pallet hit with the buff for it to be credited (easier just to use it to break pallets or expose Survivors).

Even then it's still buggy and may not count all of the activations, for Killer or Survivor.

  • The issue I've had is the description in the tome entry says to activate any of the invitation's effects one time, but when in trial what pops up appears to show that three times are required. I've not been able to catch it for a screenshot as it only shows up for a split second, but it appears to give credit for 1/3. I've been attempting to get three uses done, but after the first one no further pop-ups appear. Regardless, no credit/completion received at all at the end of the trial.

    Screenshot of tome entry:

  • Drop your MMR. I took an MMR dive just so I can vs a killer other than Wesker, Nurse, Blight, and Spirit. Still heavy Wesker, but not as bad.

  • Halfway through 2023 and I'm still waiting on the "Early 2023 Improved Support Tools". The existing support tools don't even work anymore, so reporting hacks/exploits/etc. is limited to posting on the bug forum. Meh.

  • There really needs to be more than one color difference for gens affected by perks/abilities. Could even pinstripe it with the colors of the perk's effects.

  • Bad/outdated design that gives two bad options in the face of futility. Bad tome entries that push this further.

  • Any update on this?

I've found that turning off my VPN can help, but it's not a complete fix. Having my VPN on has no effect on Killer menus/matches at all (thankfully), but turning it off will sometimes let me go into the Survivor menu and use the Bloodweb and play the occasional trial as Survivor.
