Nah, pretty sure it's still 100% the killer's fault, not the survivors'.

sure if the survivor decides to be a detriment to the team and not dissuade the killer from chasing them with at least off the record...lets see an easy target to chase and increase my odds or the unhooker who decided to hide?

In Magic The Gathering there's three main categories of players, Timmy who is thrilled to play the game for the most part, Johnny who wants to win but in an unconventional way (like with his weird strategy,/weird deck) and Spike, who wants to win by any means necessary.

People who play this game as a party game might be more like Timmy, killers who wanna win playing some hex build or mid-low tier killers they find fun are closer to Johhny and people who wanna win whatever the cost, so they play Blight/Nurse and whatever other strong perks/add ones/killers come around are Spike.

Most people probably fall in the Johnny category, they do care about winning just not in the sort of way to sacrifice their fun (looking at Nurse's feet everytime she end her teleport is pretty boring). ALso playing at the highest level is inherently boring because the incentive to experiment is low (as it raises the risk of failure/losing) so people rather rely on good and tried strategies that are as safe as possible and often those lack interaction with the other party.

but this game is trying to be everything under just one game mode...a competitive ranked mode and an unranked casual mode at the same time which isnt working with the current mmr system

That's why tunnelling and camping needs big nerfs. I would like to see your gameplay without them.

even streamers with thousands of hours do it to get the 3k more often than not (not that there is anything wrong with that)

That's subjective. My partner, niece and friends all find them unattractive.

I don't care for them either. I've Lisa, Claire and almost Ada p100 now.

so which female killers do they find attractive?

You're talking about not having multiple different avenues of a specific build.

I'm talking about only ever being able to bring one build.

You can still bring chase perks, info perks, stealth perks, TR perks, baggage perks, etc.

But survivors are supposed to just always bring an anti-tunnel build. Because otherwise 'it's their own fault!'.

my point is if they dont bring those perks then yeah it kind of is their fault if they get tunneled easily out of the game...i always bring those perks now and made sure to learn how to loop correctly to be an asset to my team when i play

it is how i would blame a killer who doesnt bring bamboozle (for most killers)and gets looped like crazy on harder loops

  • @Raconteurminator said:

Why is it so important for Survivors to do gens quickly? Why sweat so hard to get them done? I mean, it just leads to harder and harder matches and more mental stress. We can psycho analyse all we want and put it down to "asserting dominance," but there's a much simpler explanation.

It's a game with a predefined win condition that people are working towards; both Survivors and Killers. Winning is the optimal outcome that rewards the most pips and bloodpoints. Those harder, more stressful games don't come from a few 4Ks here and there, they come from the MMR system being an absolute desk.

surviving doesnt give the optimal bloodpoints for survivors though...gen rushing and escaping only gives around 15 to 20 thousand bps

Lots of people find winning fun, something about dominating a team and getting a 4k is just enjoyable.

it is fun but for me only if i switch up which killers i play

  • @Pulsar said:

I like to win and I feel like not trying my best is doing a disservice to the Survivors. I can ease off, but I'm not gonna do something that will be throwing.

I'm not going to slug people for 4 minutes just to 4K, but I'm gonna do my best to win, especially if it's a good team,

never understood slugging for 4k....that time wasted is another game that could be played. i am usually happy with a 3k and if the last survivor gets hatch then so be it

So what do we do against the killers that chase us for 3 gens then tunnel us through the final ones because they committed too much time to us at the start? Because if argue that involves making yourself not worth chasing, yet they do it anyway, then tunnel, then facecamp, then get a 2k minimum anyway because solo queue teammates have the collective brain cells of a goldfish.

by that time hopefully your teammates did enough to be able to escape...i am not saying it will stop the tunneling but it makes most killers second guess if going after you for just a 1k is worth it in the long run

I had a game today where I thought a team mate was getting tunnelled, but they were so good in chase it was honestly detrimental for the killer to go for them. One game later, I got matched with that same survivor again and I watched them and realised they were purposely tracking the killer down and pretty much carrying the team with their chase skills. I unhooked them on their first hook and they let me heal them, then they ran off and seconds later had the little chase claws around their icon 🤣

out of curiosity what perks was your teammate running?

  • @AssortedSorting said:

It’s important to see both sides. Try playing Killer to understand the tools they have available to tunnel.

This comes across as a survivor main under the assumption that their teammates are always at fault.

i play enough solo queue to see that really bad teammates who go down at the first loop

  • @Pulsar said:

    this is just...idk.

Call me a Survivor main, but this is just completely nonsensical in an actual game and seems like it was written by someone who hasn't spent enough time in Solo Q.

"Tunneling is your fault as a Survivor"

It's easy to loop effectively? Yeah, maybe against Killers who are worse than you. Against Killers that are your skill or better? It's extremely difficult.

There aren't generally many safe loops in maps, plus, many Killer powers make it easier for them to tunnel. DS is a joke, you're better off running something else.

    Completely ridiculous post.

all i do is play solo queue as survivor lately and trust me you want to keep the killer occupied...you can't depend on teammates knowing how to loop or run these perks. it falls on yourself and hoping teammates are doing gens while the killer is occupied with you

it is based on the killer obviously but how does it hurt to be prepared? i see so many threads where people whine about getting tunneled and camped and it is always the killers fault when the perks are right there to use to prolong the game. ds is still useful to run to another safe loop it isnt as useless as people claim.

"Just commit your entire build so that you can last longer in a tunnel"

Might as well remove the other 95% of perks then, if we always have to be prepared for when we get tunnelled.

kind of like how some killers can only run 1 type of build for slowdown?

i mean you can run other perks but if you do then get tunneled whose fault is it?

Yeah, but i was saying that not because of the percentage of high rare addons per web, but since you will be investing tons of Bloodpoints, you will have the oportunity to get much more Purple and Iri addons than if you spend just a little bit.

This way, if you are a Legion main (for example), you can get many Brown and Yellow addons, which are pretty good on him; Otherwise, if you are playing Sadako, maybe you will need many Iri Tape for your matches, which requires a lot more of BP spent.

aaaa ok makes sense...i know a lot of m1 characters need the help with higher addons like trapper...need to run at least 1 iri base kit with him or trapper sack

  • @Rickprado said:

    As a personal task, i think your favorite characters;

As addons (for killers), i think the killers which have very good Iri or Purple addons, like Spirit, Sadako, Wesker, Artist. For killers which their best addons are Green or lower, i don't think too much prestige is necessary, as Green/Yellow/Brown addons are quite easy to farm.

i thought the percentage still wasnt that high for rare addons (i think someone mentioned like an extra red or purple per web)

With ds and off the record turned of in the endgame, how are you supposed to protect yourself from going down immediately after getting unhooked? Do you not remember what it was like getting unhooked with 0 bt just for the killer to hit you down immediately?

also if you hook the survivor next to the game with multiple people still alive, why do you deserve to win that game?

no because if didnt put myself in that situation either i ran with teammates to help unhook and if it was a lost cause i escaped...if i was on hook and it was a lost cause like a bubba basement i suicided on hook to save my teammates

I would say tunneling and camping are tools that people should not be afraid to draw on but not be over reliant on.

Reds tries not to tunnel but he makes up for it with smart slugging. He also would camp someone to second stage if the other survivors decide to push gens over unhooking aka punishing mistakes. D3ad does tunnel but occasionally depending on gen speeds. His mechanical skill lets him win games most of the time.

King wolfe is famous for tunneling and camping but his awareness, footwork and understanding of his favorite maps is what leverages the odds in his favor greatly.

that is why i dont understand survivors demonizing tunneling and camping since they are efficient tools

still red has to use some form of slowdown when he doesnt tunnel which is slugging and pushing surivovrs to the second stage...i would put his skills near the top of the killers mmr

d3ad i dont blame at all since he seems to run into more mmr squads (and some blatant cheaters) who reach those high ranks

king wolfes footwork is ridiculous on his pallet mindgames and he loves to tunnel and camp...reminds me of monto in his mannerisms and humor

    does monto play dbd anymore?

I haven't ever heard of any of the first three.

Tru3 isn't really that good anymore, he plays like it's 2019. That's totally fine, it's just 2023 now.

Otz is pretty good, but he also uses a lot of really off-meta stuff a lot of the time.

D3AD is also good, but I've kinda grown to dislike him with all his "Obvious Toxic SWF Destroyed" videos.

You could try Hens, Zaka and KnightLight. Array is really good too.

pro vengeance is the guiness world record holder for most kills in dbd and i think streak lengths if i remember correctly...and just listing tru3 otz and d3ad is 3 streamers who tunnel and camp...otz less than others.

have only seen hens play niche videos like holding survivors hostage for an hour with knight and how to bully low tier killers like legion...never heard of zaka and knightlight and array will give them a watch...do they never tunnel then?

Scream fan, plus fun playing a character that can jumpscare people and also be silly with crouching and memes. ^_^ I'm a mostly friendly killer, as in I'll play fairly, but if people want to be silly, I'll play along with it.

all good reasons especially if you are planning on spending so many hours playing the same killer repeatedly ^_^

  • if a survivor is hooked to close to the exit gate then the basekit borrowed time lets them get out without any counter play from the killer

Allow me to set the stage...

(As required by Forums TOS, and because I want to, the name of this person has been hidden, anyone else uninvolved wont have their names hidden since there is nothing negative involving them.)

Guy loses to Plague meme build (Sloppy Butcher, Leverage, SH: Gift of Pain, and Forced Penance), complains in the post-game chat that Plague is overpowered. Their STEAM Profile says that they insta-DC if they see a Plague, Blackward, or bad Map Offering (basically just Mary's Letter).

The only reason why I snowballed into a 2K was because they kept trying to Flashlight save while infected so I could hear them coughing. They basically fed me hook states the entire game and I ended up with 10 total hooks. 2 of their teammates were actually really damn good, amazing players, the P16 Ada and P3 Dwight specifically, they countered me pretty well, and they even escaped, but their other teammates did weigh them down.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/4U79PNZ9VSMQ/screenshot-28586-29.png

They also complained that I was slugging when ya know, they are right there with Flashlights. They told me to "eat the Flashlight save" (they unironically said this) because "slugging to prevent it is cringe" (I wish I was joking). I seriously dont know how people can act like children in a online game and not care for their own public image... speaking of public image, look at this "-rep" they left.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/HDOISF3WYMHB/screenshot-28588-29.png

Stuff like this is interesting, but also just concerning, since I hope people know that acting like this can really turn away new or less-experienced players away from the game. DBD is fun, but people like this just sour the experience. Even after an unpleasant match, seeing wholesome post-game chats just brightens my mood completely, you just never really see it too much sadly.

This being said... why is this my favorite? Well... Idk really. A lot of my "post-game" chats happen in TTV Chats since I mostly talk with people that stream for a bit, but most of those conversations are long and outside of the game. But this one thing left a lasting impression with me, and even had me changed my STEAM Profile.

My STEAM Profile now has "Also, if you are here to leave a -rep on my account, I would kindly urge you to take a break from whatever game you are playing, since it clearly is not good for your mental health if you go to that length to do so. ːskheartː " for anyone wondering. And it's advice that I give people who are upset with the game still till this day.

hey they wanted to try fancy saves that is on them for losing...it always amuses me when survivors play in uneffective ways

    thanks for sharing ^_^

I went up against a big streamer and managed a fair 4K. I went onto his stream to say gg and this guy fully says 'Oh hello streamsniper' and his chat erupted with everyone calling me names and asking why I did it. Wonder how that happened? There was two gens left and the streamer + a random were healing each other right next to a generator. I got called all these names because I was patrolling gens. I had to explain to him how he was literally healing right next to a generator and how I only looked at his stream once to see how toxic he might be before the game began. I still have no idea how he convinced his viewers I was streamsniping, just shows how much influence these streamers have.

i would understand if they were healing in an area away from the gens but it isnt like you arent going to patrol your objective and find them...seriously i am surprised they didnt heal under a hook as well

I was asking for a specific game or VOD.

Just saying, "They need to tunnel to win against these god Survivors" isn't really gonna do it for me.

what specific game do you need for king wolfe 2, pro vengeance, or quiet kills? show me a vid where they don't tunnel and camp and have them explain why they are doing it... you can literally close your eyes and randomly pick a vid on their channels and get one.

trutalent? once again maybe at least half of his vids as well as him explaining why he has to? otz maybe a fourth of his vids?

deadplays more vs high level swf teams but yeah he mentions it.

unless any of the above mentioned arent high level killer mains i guess

  • of streamers that tunnel? otz does on ocassion, trutalent as well, dead plays, pretty sure there are more

king wolfe, quiet kills, pro vengeance make their reputations on tunneling and camping

redgaming and potatolegion are the two that actually play for hooks and when they do it is usually a draw or a 3k depending on the survivors skill (which is how every game plays it does depend on the survivors skill which is why i say if the survivor gets tunneled then they need to run otr, ds, windows of opportunity hold w and predrop make some distance)

your build should make up for your weaknesses but some survivors don't see it that way

That'd be near the end-game and ir was especially prevalent with SM and Knight.

Eruption got complaints because 25 seconds of having zero options wasn't a good mechanic. It COULD have made going after other Survivors more viable, since you know where they are; most people just used it to tunnel since they knew Survivors couldn't do anything for half a minute.

but eruption led to killers going on chases because killers knew they had the time to juggle the survivors effectively

Yeah and being the obsession is the only way to stop STBFL (coz no one runs DS anymore) in your control, so I've been taking those measures to try and be more altruistic with my build and serve as a distraction.

also helps with making the matches less stale by trying a different build

  • @Chadku said:

    Gift of Pain > Thanatophobia

agree with gift of pain being better than thana and even getting a sloppy butcher effect...yeah about gave up on trying to make dying light work it isnt worth the bad effect

  • @C3Tooth said:

Thana should be 8% 10% 12% 13% or so. I dont know why they keep the equal multiplying for each survivor. 2% for 1 injured is too weak, but 20% is too much on Plague and Legion.

For Dying Light, I think that if you hit Obsession, other 3 survivors get 15% debuff for 30sec. With a reasonable cool down. So the perk still have the idea of keeping Obsession alive as other 2 Myers' perks

those buffs would not even be op with the new meta but it seems like gen regression perks are just staying on the low end of any kind of buff

  • @AGM said:

Dying Light no, not really, as it's more of a "win harder" perk. Like, if you're already winning this perk will make it exceedingly difficult for survivors to make a comeback. Usually when I use this perk, 2 ish gens are already done by the time I get my first hook; all that work for a 3% slowdown to repair and healing that will only be in effect for the last 3 or so gens and doesn't even affect the obsession. Pretty useless perk imo.

Thana really only has a case for it to be used on 2 killers, Legion and Plague, as Thana can temp some survivors to waste time healing versus Legion or cleanse versus Plague, but even then I'm not sure that the potential reward is worth the perk slot as the amount of value you get out of it can vary drastically from game to game depending on how the survivors respond.

i have been trying with those two killers especially just to run a different build but yeah pop the weasel outclasses dying light for the same hook and thana only works on lower to mid mmr survivors with plague

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/377148/lets-discuss-why-are-camping-and-tunneling-considered-bad

Survivors 'tunneling' gens puts the advantage on the Killer side. They either A. group up to give the killer extra pressure, or B. Give the Killer an easy Regression delivery point and Intel where at least 1 person will always be. With B., back in the Pop+Tinker days, I won all too many games ( I honestly didn't deserve to) because Survivors would refuse to find a safer or different gen. 'Tunneling' gens is the Survivor falling prey to sunk-cost fallacy.

Most killer ended tunnel/camp scenarios brush against agency. There is no agency in being camped, or being tunneled in certain deadzones. No matter what you do on hook, in the camping scenario an extra hook state will be juiced. Even worse, you see your soloq Surv teammates doing the worst thing imaginable, a 61s rescue (the second after you hit 2nd state on hook, so the killer can turbotunnel you out of the game).

In the case of tunneling, it typically is a deadzone around the hook because the survivor wouldn't have gone down and dropped the pallet if it wasn't. Also many maps are swapping from fair windows to either 1 or 2 God windows and/or 25 unsafe pallets. You can be bloodlusted at those Borgo/Garden pallets, even if the Killer doesn't have a power to shortcut the chase. That basically means every surv is on a 15s-25s timer after getting unhooked, even when they play the best they can (on newer maps).

When a Survivor dies, they can't play the game anymore. When the gens pop, the Killer is still allowed to play, and potentially get that NWO+Blood Warden play. Even if the Killer doesn't have the perks, they can take advantage of the Surv misplays, and maybe get some extra kills out of the match. The game is horribly balanced with 3 players, so it can feel like an exploit to break the game so soon. In a normal killer match, I usually base my strategy around 1/1/1/1, or 1 on hook, 1 in chase/pressured, 1 for rescue/healing after rescue, 1 on gens. If you drop that to 3 players, there is no one to do gens, so it is just waiting for the Killer to win instead. To be fair, if someone AFKed from the start I typically go for risky plays in the 1v3 (as Killer), both to learn more tactics, and to give them a chance to get some BP or otherwise play the game.

Purposely sending a player out of the match can in essence, kind of hold the player hostage in spirit. In a SWF, they aren't playing until the rest of their group dies also. This makes new players (because the new player is dying first more often in a SWF) have to AFK before they are allowed to learn the game again, a horrible experience, which made 2 of my friends (that otherwise would be willing to play) hard quit learning the game. Also even if it isn't a SWF, the Killer's build is hidden until the match is over, (which is never explained in-game, and shouldn't happen in soloq regardless) so if you are learning and want to know how or why the Killer was able to do something, you have to wait.

I agree the problem lies in 'efficiently' playing should be the most fun way to play for everyone. It should be better rewarded to spread the pressure, than focus fire someone out of the game (basekit lesser Grim Embrace that can proc twice, but only if no one is dead). I would go as far as to say soloing gens should be less efficient as well. Healing should be greater incentivized (as both a form of slowdown and BP). Also it should be more punishing to tunnel and camp (only camping was proposed to be nerfed so far with the anti-facecamping measure, even basekit BT backfires as an anti-tunnel mechanism). If a player never did a conspicuous action off of hook, there should be some sort of indicator (maybe glow blue and lose collision) and a tougher time to go for them (maybe built in current perk DS).

completely agree with all your points...i would even say give decisive strike the 5 second stun after a hook as long as the unhooked gets no hit hit collision to try to tank hits that and like you suggested a basekit grim embrace would give killers a reason to go for the unhooker

the funny thing is it's so common these days I'm able to run at a killer with OTR + DS + Dead hard and make them lose an entire match just to kill me because they fall for all three, that's when you know the situation is getting out of hand. and they get so angry and BM when it happens lmfao

and you are playing it smart...good perk loadouts are either finish the objective quickly (doing gens at every given opportunity) or stalling the killers objective (the loadout you are running)

it is up to survivor team to stop the tunneling and camping...your loadout plus lithe/sprint burst or sabotage or flashbang and bodyblocking is how you deter the killer

it is just common sense if gens are popping quickly then a survivor is going to most probably get tunneled (if the killer wants any chance of getting kills in the match)

The sheer power of Eruption, CoB, Overcharge and PR/DL.

Undeniably the strongest Killer has ever been and Killers still decided they'd rather go crazy with the tunneling.

in all fairness wasnt there less tunneling? i remember people complaining about killers not leaving their 3 gens with those perks not tunneling abuse... proximity camping was more rampant in the survivor games i played

  • @Crowman said:

Because at the end of the day, a 3v1 is much better than a 4v1. There's no reward for spreading hooks and the main objective is to kill survivors.

if this was fixed then the game could start to get balanced...a basekit thanataphobia so injuries to the whole team matter or a basekit grim embrace/mini deadlock

  • @Firellius said:

Survivor gameplay consists of doing gens, performing altruistic actions, and doing chases.

Camping removes all three from the person being camped, and two-thirds from the other survivors, while also completely stopping killer gameplay.

Tunnelling removes two-thirds from all survivors, as three are left only doing gens, and one is left only doing chases.

In short, both methods completely annihilate the core concepts of the game.

if the teammates are not being proactive and dont try bodyblocking then yeah that is on the teammates not the killer. if i see a teammate getting tunneled i am for sure going for a bodyblock hit or getting in position for when they go down to try for the pallet stun/flashbang/sabotage play or at the very least making more scratch marks available and try to divert the killer to chase me.

  • @bazarama said:

I tried playing "fair" by going for hooks and I ended the game with 2 on 2 hooks and 2 on one hook. With body blocks etc all 4 escaped. Granted I was playing ghost face but the gen speed is killing the game.

I don't camp but I understand why people do as on average a chase and hook = 2 or 3 gens.

The new scavenger perk is going to be a final nail in the killer's coffin - hope I wrong when update goes live but I have my doubts.

if scavenger goes live as is it will be one of the most broken perks available...too much synergy with getting tokens with a fast repair toolbox to get the tokens and then get the toolbox at full charges again (even built to last has the down time of having to find a locker and go inside to recharge the toolbox).

What do you mean one object?

Just like killer have 4 survivors, survivor has 7 gens.

If you consider 7 gens is one object, why four survivor can't be considered for one object?

All of your list are being nerfed between now and 6.1.0, and I don't think tunnel and camping has become less than 6.1.0,in fact these stick only increase the tunnel and camping.

thanks that is what i meant by tunneling gens or gen rushing i consider them the same thing...tunneling an objective until it is done (getting the kill on the survivor or finishing the gen).

oh boy, the whole tunneling gens thing again.

They aren't considered bad per se, just very unfun and unintuitive to play against. A lot of players crutch on these tactics to win when their macro gameplay is lacking. The skill required to tunnel someone is MUCH less than the skill required to make tunneling a losing strategy, same with camping. A lot of Killer powers also synergize well with those strategies making them even more difficult to counter and even more effective.

You, once again, mention the carrot and the stick approach. We have tried the carrot, it didn't work. People kept tunneling and camping because it was easy and effective, not because they had to tunnel to win. Until those two aren't the easiest way to win, they'll continue to stick around.

so may i ask respectfully why some streamers with thousands of hours tunnel in their games?

i know there are some that try to play fair by spreading hooks but they usually lose or get a draw and i dont see their macro skills being bad.

if killers mains (with many more hours) have to resort to these tactics then what chance do regular players have against 4 good solos or a swf?

i realize it can be unfun to be chased and tunneled but that is why looping exists...what i find unfun is being slugged for four minutes not being in an interactive chase with the killer (yes i try my best and sometimes look the killer for 2 to 3 gens other times it is a dead zone and i get schooled it is all part of dbd).

  • how are they terrible characters? well skull merchant is op i guess depending on skill level but thalita?

My favorite is Frank, but I often play as a lost mascot because it's silly and fits my playstyle. Unfortunately the best color in that set is Julie's. So I play as her a bit too !

Do you play them as well ? If so who's your favorite ? =)

i like julie and yeah i love playing them just that it is hard after a certain mmr level...usually use enduring spirt fury nowhere to hide and jolt as my build with julies mixtape and legion pin/iri button

saving up shards for the blighted legion skin

I play blight, you think I care about attractiveness in any video game? The only point in difference survivors for me is that ability to not tunnel them as killer. I bought ferryman blight and based on the design of skins in this game that skin will never be topped for me personally.

congrats on playing a good killer...out of curiosity why dont you use the belkin skin?

  • @Kaitsja said:

The carrot does not work. You can incentivise different behavior, but so long as the win conditions are kills over hooks for killers, and escaping via the gates for survivors, there's really no reason for either side to play in a less efficient way.

Tunneling is strong because it's efficient when done right. Camping is strong because it's efficient when done right. Genrushing is maximising repair efficiency. These are all problems that boil down to one common factor: Players like winning.

For some, simply having a good game is more important than winning, but for others winning is all that matters. Why play if you're not playing to win, after all?

which is why this game needs a casual and ranked mode

Tapping a gen is now also genrushing, sweet lord.

It's like every third post from you has a solid 75% chance of adding something new to your list of things that you qualify as 'genrushing'.

isnt it more like camping in reality? especially with two people and one leads the killer on the chase the other survivor is technically proximity camping the gen
